Outdoor Adventures
If you’re visiting during the warmer months, you’re in for a treat! There are so many ways to enjoy the great outdoors in Williamson County, from scenic trails for hiking and mountain biking to kayaking and fly fishing on the Harpeth River, you’ll love exploring the beautiful Tennessee hills and waterways around Franklin.
HIKING The stunning Preservation Park is a 200-acre park located in Thompson’s Station. The park’s 3.4-mile Battlefield Trail takes you through rolling pasture land (and site of the Battle of Thompson’s Station) up to the Timberland Park
top of a massive grassy hill with a 360-degree view of the surrounding countryside. Continue on the Depot Trail to enjoy the dog park and community garden! Part of the Natchez Trace National Scenic Trail Highland Rim section, the Garrison Creek Loop Trail is located at milepost 427.6 near the Leiper’s Fork exit along the historic Natchez Trace Parkway. This 1.3-mile loop is great for all skill levels. Hike just beyond the loop to see the War of 1812 Memorial! Also located on the Natchez Trace Parkway, Timberland Park features more than three miles of secluded trails through lush forests and meadows. A great place for viewing wildlife, each of the 10 trails offers a variety of difficulty for all hiking levels, including an ADA-accessible trail. Tucked away near Brentwood, Owl’s Hill Nature Sanctuary is a great place for hiking - with six different trails for both new and seasoned hikers - and learning about wildlife. Purchase a $5 day pass online for access, and check their calendar for guided hikes, family-friendly events, and other fun educational activities at owlshill.org.
