The heart of industrial heritage
The Minett region in the south of Luxembourg is named after its rusty red soil that’s rich in iron ore. The Minett ore that was once mined in the area – mostly in the first half of the 20th century and all the way into the 1970s – provided the region, and indeed the nation with its wealth even in the post-war years.
But now nature is reclaiming the old industrial sites in spectacular style. You can marvel at the power and beauty of nature on the Minett Tour and the Minett Trail, a 90-kilometre hiking route divided into different stages.
It’s fascinating to explore abandoned mines and industrial wastelands that have been transformed into nature reserves, but the focus isn’t all on the past.
The Minett region is looking forward too, with its modern university holding the promise of a bright future.
