For the month of February our district has decided to focus on the Kiwanis Foundation! The Kiwanis foundation, as some of you might know, has been closely bonded with Key Club from its very creation. The very idea of Key Club was coined by two of The Greater Sacramento Kiwanis family members, with the belief that high schoolers deserved opportunities to better themselves through vocational guidance and providing community service events! To this day the Kiwanis and Key Club family remain close to each other. We have our own Kiwanis advisor, Mr. Shimada, who is always happy to speak to any Key Club member! Please do not feel afraid to talk to him and introduce yourself if you’d like.

The Kiwanis fam involved with peop school age, but also and those with disa wanis family has a t branches; Kiwanis, B Aktion Club, K-Kids, and Circle K. You m come in contact w the popular event G The bond between and the Kiwanis is v and we work hard t maintain that bond

Key Club kicked off the New Year with a bang! In preparation for DCON coming April 2018 our Division assembled for our 2018 conclave. Our club has also been very busy with preparing for our own executive board elections! Our Officer Exams were just held a couple weeks ago congratulations to everyone who passed and thank you to everyone who participated! For our members you can look forward to the chance to vote for your new executive board in the coming weeks! Our club also participated in many volunteer events this past month so let’s take a look.

Division Seven South’s 2018 Conclave was held on January 13th! There all of the Key Club’s within our division gathered and sent delegates to witness Lieutenant Governor elects give their speeches and answer our questions. After two rounds our LTG Elect was announced, congratulations to Laguna Creek’s Diego Andrades! And all the other candidates did amazing as well, you all did amazing! Conclave was a first time event for many of our members, we hope that everyone who attended enjoyed their time there!

On January 20 Laguna Creek hosted their Annual Mock New Year’s Bash! Many of Franklin Key Club were in attendance and they reported back with happy reviews! The event extended beyond our division so Key Clubbers of different regions too joined in the fun. It was a great social event for old and new members alike! “ I had a good time!” - Brian Quach “ It was fun!” - Jason Lam “At Mock bash we got to go to a dance with the whole division. There was great music, photo boots, and boba. We also got to vote for King and Queen of Mock Bash, which was one of y friends. It was fun to see all of Franklin’s officers at the dance” - Emily Chau

January’s DCM was jam packed! Our Lieutenant Governor discussed division updates and introduced us to our new Lieutenant Governor Elect, Diego Andrades! Each club also gave their updates as per usual and awards were distributed, congratulations to all the recipients! The DCM was combined with a service project dedicated to bringing food and well wishes to the homeless!

The DCM was so fun! At the DCM we learned about Sheldon’s upcoming movie night, March in March, and who the new LTG elect is. The DCM was also part of a service project where we made sandwiches for the homeless. We made cards, decorated bags, and packed sandwiches and bananas.—Emily Chau

January was Jam Packed with volunteer events! Our club is working hard towards meeting our service hours goals. I’m very proud of our club’s progress and highly encourage you to keep up the good work! This month the big events were Sac Anime, Shape Your Future, and many more! Thank you to all the members who submitted photos this past month, your contributions do wonders to help me in making these newsletters and I appreciate it very much so please continue to sign up for photo!

Sac Anime hit Sacramento through the Janu 7th-8th and it is a Key Club favorite! With shif both Saturday and Sunday, Key Club volunt could be spotted assembling stations, helpin out convention attendees, and reveling at a the cool sounds and sights! This year there w very large Key Club turn out, thank you to ev one who managed to attend! The event wa very fun with new costumes to see every dire tion you looked and new events going on e hour. Sta Gener electio presen you sta proces candid

Step 1: Passing the Test Before anyone is even considered to be eligible for candidacy, they must first pass two test: the General and Officer Specific test. These tests consist of questions regarding Key Club history, mottos, pledges, basically any fact related to Key Club that we could put on there! There are also questions regarding the duties of each officer position and free response questions that revolve around individual platforms.

arting January 29, elections will officially be in full swing! ral Club Meetings will be replaced with exciting and eventful ons, where candidates will be giving speeches and ntations with the hopes of earning your support! But, before art turning in ballots, its important to understand the election ss fully! Here we’ll break down the step-by-step path that dates take before they make it to election day

Step 2: Presenting to the People Once candidates have passed the exams, the real fun begins! Depending on which position you’re running for, you may be giving your speech on the first or second day of elections. Each candidate presents a five minute speech regarding their plans for next year if they are elected and their qualifications. Once their speech is over, there is also a five minute caucus session where any member from the club may ask the candidate a question.

In light of Key Club elections coming up, I gathered some stories from this term’s executive officers to give some of you members insight on what makes our job so amazing! We hope to inspire you to perhaps be interested in running in next year or other’s elections and we hope that our stories will help stoke your interest in getting more involved in Key Club! This organization takes commitment to reap all the deep and meaningful benefits and we hope to share those benefits with you!

Having the honor of being an executive officer was truly life-changing. The skills I learned and the people I met could not have been accomplished anywhere else. I learned the ins and outs of key club from all the components that go on to make a budget, to bonding as a board over counting UNICEF money. Being on the board is not just a title and something to put on your college applications, it stretches far beyond that to one’s love and passion for service. Serving on the board taught me skills that at first, I overlooked as being ‘extra’ or just plain stupid; but as time went on, I came to the

realization that they were valuable and could be carried on far after high school. Being able to be called your treasurer was an honor and I hope that others will carry on the love and passion for key club that our board has. —Jason Lam

When I applied for the position of Bulletin Editor, I had little idea about what the job actually was about; I just knew that I had a passion for creating things and serving Franklin Key Club. In all honesty, I had only read a couple of newsletters prior to taking on the job. I didn’t know much fun I would have with my job. Making new and different content for the newsletter every month and speaking to members and recording their stories is an experience that I will never forget. Though some nights, when I’m drowning under AP homework and other tasks, sitting in front of my laptop and working

Drain the stress right out of me; it falls off my shoulders like water. I get to change my newsletter, make my newsletter unique, and try new formats and fonts to continuously improve it and I love that. Being bulletin editor has been an amazing experience, I’m so thankful to having been given the opportunity.

“Set your heart to doing good. Do good over and over again, and you will be filled with joy
