The CNH District has decided for the month of January to focus on one of our preferred charities; The Children’s Miracle Network. Key Club as an organization places major emphasis on the children of the world as a whole, for their future is our focus. The Children’s Miracle Network in particular works to provide funds and awareness for the 170 hospitals that provide 32 million treatments to kids across the United States and Canada. Donations to this organization stay local to fund critical treatments and healthcare services, pediatric medical equipment, and charitable care. CMN’s various fundraising partners and programs support the nonprofit's mission to save and improve the lives of as many children as possible. All CMN contributions directly assisting hospitals with purchasing up-todate equipment, training staff, conducting life-saving research, implementing outreach programs, and providing health care for children whose parents cannot afford to pay. Find a CMN Hospital near you and learn about the work they are doing in your community!
Every day CMN Hospitals treat :
16,000
2,218
Kids in the ER
Kids with Cancer
2,329 Kids for Surgeries
935 Kids with Diabetes
925 Babies with NICU
As a club we try to focus much of our efforts towards giving to children, from the youth-oriented volunteer events that we attend to the toys, cards, and gifts we make for donation. Some of our favorite events are the many elementary school fairs that we attend and the Gift of Giving event where many Key Clubs, who share the same sentiments towards children that we do, gather together to brighten their holiday season with Christmas Cards and new hats and scarves.
“Children’s Miracle Network is one of the main charities that Key Club donates to. The Key Club Motto is “Caring—Our Way Of Life” and we do our best to help everyone in need and to provide others with better opportunities. As Key Clubber we serve the community and help out at many different events. I think that it is important to attend so many volunteering opportunities so that we inspire the younger generation to go out of their way and serve their community as well. As a club we emphasize helping others and donating to organizations such as Children’s Miracle Network. One of the main sponsors of Key Club is the Kiwanis Branch and their motto is “Serving the Children of the World” and I think that as a branch of Kiwanis Family we should all help to achieve that goal” - FHS Key Club President Cassandra

December DCM + Caroling for Cans
PC: Dale Matias
For the month of December the DCM was coupled with Pleasant Grove’s Caroling for Cans Event, but before Division Seven South Monsters went around the neighborhood singing for donations, each club got to make remixes of Christmas songs to give out club updates! We also went over our progress towards our Division goals and awards for Club, Officer, Member, and Advisor of the month were given out! Congratulations to all the winners!
December DCM + Caroling for Cans
“The DCM was fun, all of the clubs sang their club and board updates and during Caroling for Cans we went to a lot of houses and people gave us many cans. I got to spend time with the other Franklin officers and I met new people!!” - Emily Chau “Caroling for Cans was a great experience as we went door to door caroling for cans that we will donate to our local food shelter. While we did this I had a fun time with my friends, I also felt good helping those in need for the holidays” - Irene Dich
December DCM + Caroling for Cans To those who have yet to attend a Division Council Meeting and would like to, they occur monthly and us officers try to promote these dates as often as we can! They are a great stepping stone towards becoming more involved in Key Club and your community as well as a good opportunity to meet new people with the same drive to impact our world positively through community service! If you have any questions about DCM’s please let an officer know and we will gladly take you with us to the next one!
Kiwanis House Cleanup
For the months of November and December many Franklin Key Clubbers have gone to the Kiwanis House to help clean and organize its grounds. We are very happy to help out our head sponsors! Key Club and Kiwanis are very close and we hope to maintain that strong bond!
“At the Kiwanis Family House, we cleaned the kitchen. Afterwards, we helped organize the food cabinets. Lastly, we cleaned and fold laundry “ - Pak Him Tang

Make A Gift That Counts “This was my first event as "photo" and it was a new experience for me. Everyone learned in someway how to sew fabric together to make a beanie and though we poked our fingers majority of the time we all managed to make wearable beanies! This was an event I wasn't familiar with because it was just at someone's house and we just sewed and talked to everyone around us. The atmosphere was warm and inviting and I would come to it again next year. “ - Teresa Vu “The Make a Gift that Counts event was Franklin’s Service Project where we collected basic necessities to donate to the Salvation Army. In addition we also sewed hats that we were also going to donate . The project’s purpose was to connect the members in our Key Club by bringing them together to create something and it also taught them valuable skills, such as sewing” - Emily Chau
As an introduction for the following articles, I would like to thank every dedicated member of Franklin Key Club for doing such excellent work and making us officers very, very proud. We constantly receive positive remarks from the event supervisors so please keep up the good work! As 2017 is ending and Key Club begins the second half of its 20172018 term, I hope to remind you of the core values of our club so that you carry these expectations with you into the new year. Without these core values, Key Club would not be the force of positive change that we strive to be. Please think back to these when you can, thank you!
Leadership The world is often organized into two groups; the followers and the leaders. We have choice to make, whether will we join the first or the latter. In Key Club, we encourage our members to choose the latter. Leadership is an infinitely valuable skill that is applicable in so many different places; school, work, home, and so on. As a leader, you gain a respectable reputation and are entrusted with many important responsibilities. You have the power to positively influence the world around you in a big way. At Key Club, we hope to help you develop these leadership skills through many different opportunities. We pride ourselves in being a student-led organization. Each and every one of our officers is a high school student. Through our responsibilities as officers, we learn time management, cooperation, compassion, the list goes on. Not only have these skills helped us now, but they greatly will impact our futures too. The skills I’ve learned as an officer will surely come in handy in college and beyond.

Leadership Being an officer is not the only way we encourage the development of leadership skills. At every volunteer event we have we offer a project captain opportunity where volunteers sign in their fellow club members and communicate with event heads to receive credit for the hours they volunteered. This job teaches our members communication and tactfulness for they have the responsibility of recording everyone’s hours. The subliminal impacts of possessing leadership skills are often unnoticed, but when you see the smiles on the faces of the people you’ve helped, the excitement you feel when your group completes a project well, and the pride you take in impacting your community positively, you’ll see leadership’s infinite value then[.]

Character Building High School is a time of self discovery. As we students wade through bogs of homework, tests, and essays, we learn more about our strengths and weaknesses. Each new challenge presents an opportunity to learn and grow. Key Club is similar to school in that very sense. Most would assume that members simply attend volunteer events and move on, but these events can have profound effects on our characters. Not all events go smoothly and we have to roll with the punches and adjust to make sure that the best results can come out. Whether it is a complaining or confused customer, miscommunication between Key Club and the event coordinator, or a major injury on the job, these situations teach us to act quickly and apply ourselves. An example of this in my life was when I had an event to attend early in the morning. It was cold, I was tired, and I knew that I was going to be stuck there for
Another five hours. But, as I looked around at the runners of the marathon where I was volunteering, I saw how excited they were to run the billion miles they had prepared for that day and then realized that if they could be this excited for running, I could be a more enthusiastic volunteer for them. I started putting on more smiles, and the impact was surprising for I found that when I smiled more often more people smiled back and kept the smile on their faces. I realized then that my mood can impact the moods of others. By being more cheery, the atmosphere of the event was changed. From adversity we acquire new hidden talents and use them to further improve our lives. That is the meaning of character building[.]
Caring and Inclusiveness Volunteer work is all about giving back to the community. We owe much to the community members who helped raise us and make us who we are today. Without them, we would be completely different people. It is our duty to give to them at least a small portion of all the gifts they’ve given us. A community is defined by all of its members, regardless of race, gender, status, or any other “divides”. When volunteer organizations like Key Club give back, we wish to give back to all the members of our community, from the old to the young, the fortunate to the not so fortunate, and to a variety of organizations that also strive to impact our community positively. To not care for our community, all of our community, is to do a great disservice to them and for all the opportunities they’ve given up. Key Club works our hardest to make as many opportunities to give back, .
ranging from organizing charity drives to listing service events that specifically give back to large parts of our community. Our club’s main focal point is children: their future is our focus. Children, in reality, are our nation and our world’s future. We care so much about children because we hope that one day, when they’re all grown up, they’ll return our care by continuing to serve the community and world by making it a better place than what we left it[.]
“One of the grea give is your time”
atest gifts you can ” The holiday is all about giving in a variety of forms; presents, toys, smiles, etc. And though the holidays have just ended, we can still carry that warmth and love for giving to new and more corners of our world. Our time is one of the cheapest and easiest gifts to give, but it can seem hard in a world so fast paced and constantly moving. If you can, take any bit of time you have out of your weekend or weekday where you’re a bit free and go to a service event. Help pass out food to the less fortunate, work at a children’s fair, or make beanies for people living on the streets. It’s a very, very unique experience that will not only change the lives of those you’re giving your time to, but for yourself as well.
