Voorheesville Key Club | April 2016 Newsletter

The Voorheesville Key Club Newsletter April 2016 April was a successful month for our Key Club. We were busy preparing and fundraising for our upcoming participation in the March for Babies, which will take place in early May. We began by collecting donations for the March of Dimes during lunch periods six and seven from the 18th to the 22nd. With every donation of one dollar, students received a Twizzler in thanks and wrote their name on a Baby Button to show their support. We received quite a few donations and managed to hang a bunch of Baby Buttons on the wall. All donations received went to the March of Dimes, an organization dedicated to fighting premature birth in the U.S. and worldwide. Even though the premature birth rate is declining, there is still work to do—every year almost 400,000 babies are born too early. The March of Dimes works to combat this by “funding lifesaving research and speaking out for legislation that improves care for moms and babies.” Our Key Club would like to thank

everyone who volunteered at the donations table and everyone who donated to the cause. You helped give every baby a healthy start. On the 20th, we held a meeting in the cafeteria. President Emily Rose spoke about upcoming events and our Webmaster, Dante GilMarin, gave members information about the new website he has been working on for our club. We made a motion to purchase our own domain name for the club website, which will be up and running shortly. Our K-Family members from the middle school Builders Club also stopped in to give a presentation about a fundraiser they are planning to hold in the future. On the 23rd, members volunteered at the Spring Dinner held at the New Scotland Presbyterian Church. From 3:30 to 7:30 p.m., Key Clubbers helped serve the dinner inside and run it out to cars. Thank you to everyone who participated in this event. As always, we would like to make sure all our members know how much we appreciate the work they do for our club. This month, we would like to give a special thanks to our outgoing officers for their leadership, commitment, and dedication. Thank you for making our club a Division 16 “super-club.” We would also like to thank a few more members who were recognized for their service. Congratulations to Emily Rose for receiving the Yuda Band Project Humanitarian Heart First

April 2016 Runner Up Award, for her work with the Yuda Band Project. And congratulations to Cassidy Danz for receiving the YMCA Community Service Award. We are lucky to have both of you in our Key Club. Thank you for all that you do. Mrs. Bintz, our advisor; Mr. Hladun, our Kiwanis liaison; and Nick Murphy, our outgoing President, are also in need of congratulations. They received the Champions of Character Student Leadership Award on April 14th, for their work with the Sage College Character Education program. Thank you for all your hard work!
