The Voorheesville Key Club Newsletter October 2016 Key Club had a very busy second month of school. We started off by continuing with football concessions on the 1st and 8th, for homecoming and senior night, respectively. Voorheesville won both times and many students came out for support, even though the temperature got a bit chilly. On the 5th, we held our first meeting of the month to begin planning the Halloween Fest. Members broke up into committees for the following areas: refreshments, Haunted Hallway, games, activities, parade, and decorations. Each group of members organized their specific responsibilities. Our Kiwanis liaison Mr. Hladun, who attended the meeting, also helped with planning. Key Clubbers helped Kiwanis at their last Brooks BBQ on October 8th. Volunteers braved the cold to help take orders, package meals, and deliver them out to the waiting cars. We held another meeting on the 19th to continue planning the Halloween Fest. Officers gave updates and members voted to spend $100 on supplies for Halloween Fest decorations. Class representatives were also elected—Evie Shillinglaw and Katy Bablin for ninth grade, Evan Ensslin and Andrea Akers for tenth, Isabel Jobin-Davis and Cassidy Danz for eleventh, and Kerry Anne O’Neill

and Kyla Stewart for twelfth. The new class representatives will attend board meetings and are responsible for keeping their class members in the loop about Key Club. On October 22nd, some Key Club volunteers helped with the fall Turkey Dinner held at the New Scotland Presbyterian Church. Key Clubbers who volunteered worked very hard serving the turkey dinners. Our first board meeting to include the newly-elected class representatives was held on the 26th. Officers and representatives worked on finalizing plans for the Halloween Fest and organizing the upcoming Turkey Food Drive. Divisions 14-18 held their Fall Rally on Saturday, October 29th, at Shaker High School. The club officers who attended got to learn about the New York District’s chosen charities as well as how to keep our club running smoothly.

Kiwanis and Key Club held their annual Halloween Fest at the elementary school on October 30th. Key Clubbers wore their costumes to

October 2016 hold a fun party for the elementary school students, who were able to play games, walk down the Haunted Hallway, take their picture in the photo booth, and march in a costume parade. Despite a small mishap with the fog machine and fire alarms, everything went well. This month, as always, we would like to thank everyone who volunteered at any of our events. There was a lot of work to be done, and we did it all with your help. However, there were two members who were extraordinary in their service this month: Ellie Whiteman for being the decorations committee chair for the Halloween Fest and Andrea Akers for being elected class representative. Both stepped outside of their comfort zones to take leadership roles in our club. Also, we would like to thank Cassidy Danz for organizing the Haunted Hallway. Thank you and congratulations!
