The Voorheesville Key Club Newsletter March 2016 March was a busy and successful month for our Key Club as we began the next service year. Our big project this month was Movie Night at the elementary school. We had a meeting on the 2nd to finalize details for the event. Members divided up into groups for concessions, admissions, and hall monitors. After that, we went over our main priority —safety—and how it should be ensured. The event itself took place on the 4th from 7 to 9 p.m. Volunteers arrived early to set up. The cafeteria was filled with candy, drinks, and popcorn while colorful signs were hung around the school. Once it was time for the movie to start, excited kids arrived decked out in fuzzy pajamas and blankets. It’s safe to say that everyone enjoyed the movie, The Good Dinosaur, and the snacks provided. In all, we made $368 in profits. Our goal was to donate to the Giving Circle, “an all volunteer non-profit organization based in Saratoga Springs” whose aim is “to seek out communities in need and connect them with those with the resources to help.” In the past, the Giving Circle has helped those in need in Saratoga County, the Gulf Coast area, NYC, and in Uganda. We rounded our donation up to an even $500 to help this amazing organization.

On the 12th we helped at the Kiwanis Barbecue at the United Methodist Church. Luckily, there was good weather and good turnout for the event. The other big event of this month was the Leadership Training Conference (LTC) from the 18th to the 20th. Members from Key Clubs across the state convened at the Desmond Hotel in Albany for a weekend of learning and fun. Our club received seven awards for our service and dedication: Perfect Paperwork, Membership Retention, the District Project Fundraising Award (for our work with the Thirst Project), the Advocacy Award (for the Thirst Project again), and a first place Single Service Award in the Gold Division. Our outgoing editor, Maddy, was honored with two awards herself—Distinguished Club Editor and a second place award in the movie contest. Even though our officers were the ones who accepted these awards, everyone in Voorheesville Key Club earned them. A theme that was stressed at LTC was the importance of the member, who is the driving force behind all great acts of service. Thank you to all our amazing, dedicated members for volunteering and
March 2016 making a difference. We couldn’t do what we do without your hard work. On the 30th, we had our first meeting run by the new President, Emily Rose. Goals for this service year, club merchandise, and possible new projects were discussed. We also made donations: $250 to the March of Dimes and $200 to Kamp Kiwanis. This month, we would like to specially thank a few Key Clubbers for their outstanding service. Thank you to Spencer Conway and Jacob Rychcik for their hard work and commitment to enforcing safety at Movie Night. We would also like to thank Isabel Jobin-Davis for her hard work at the Movie Night concessions table and the popcorn machine. As this service year comes to a close, we would like to thank everyone involved in NYDKC for their hard work. Thank you especially to our amazing Lieutenant Governor, Sophia Casabonne, for her work with Division 16, and to our District Governor, Hanna Nichols. Again, thank you to all the Key Clubbers who came out this month and volunteered at any of our events. We really appreciate all the hard work that you do for our organization!
