The Voorheesville Key Club Newsletter December 2016 Voorheesville Key Club worked very hard during the last month of 2016. We held a meeting after school on December 7th in the cafeteria. Members were reminded about t-shirt orders and officer elections, which will be held in February. To continue helping the Thirst Project, we began to form a committee for collecting recycled bottles and returning them. We also made plans for our second annual holiday cookie exchange; members who wanted to participate signed up to bake for the 21st. We spoke about Bells of Life and we moved to donate $200 to the organization, in addition to the money we would collect during the rest of the month. Volunteering for Bells of Life, an annual Kiwanis campaign, is a hallmark of the holiday season for our Key Club. On the 11th, Key Clubbers along with members of Builders Club collected donations for Bells of Life at Crossgates Mall. Every bell sold and hung on the wall represents a onedollar donation (or more) that goes toward the neonatal/ pediatric intensive care unit at Albany Medical Center. This year, donations helped to purchase lifesaving equipment which can cost tens of thousands of dollars. Throughout the month of

December, Division 16 raised $6528 in for Bells of Life, with our Key Club/Builders Club raising one of the highest amounts at $1537. The week of December 12th, Key Club made Bells of Life available to students during lunch periods. By the end of the week we sold over fifty bells and therefore collected more than fifty dollars from Voorheesville students and staff for the Albany Medical Center. We held our annual holiday party and cookie exchange on the 21st. Around thirty members brought in cookies, some of which were set aside for faculty members, before exchanging them. Along with the cookies, pizza, beverages, and other snacks were served. The cookie exchange was a success and the party was a fun way to celebrate the holidays with our club. This month we would like to thank everyone who volunteered for Bells of Life, both at Crossgates Mall and during lunch at school. Thank you to everyone who came out to help for the first time and to those who have done this every year. We wouldn’t be where we are without your hard work! Elections will be held in February this year on the 8th, after officer nominations on the 1st. All members are encouraged to think about running for a leadership position in our Key Club. If you’re at all interested or curious, please don’t hesitate to talk to any officer about elections or their specific

December 2016 leadership roles. Be sure to attend meetings if you plan to run, since we’ll discuss officer elections in further detail then. Again, thank you to everyone who volunteered and attended meetings this month. Keep it up; we have a busy month ahead!
