The Voorheesville Key Club Newsletter May 2016 The last full month of school had our Key Club busy volunteering as we began to end the year. We hit the ground running on May 1st. Members from Key Club, Kiwanis Club, and Builders Club walked in the March of Dimes to raise money and awareness for premature babies. It was a rainy day at the Empire State Plaza, but our volunteers had fun supporting a good cause. Our club raised over $500 for the March in all, thanks to our members’ hard work. On the 4th, we held our last working meeting of the year. Members gathered in the cafeteria and listened as their fellow Key Clubbers talked about their experiences at recent events, like the March of Dimes and the Kiwanis dinner. We also wrote Key Club haikus for Key Club’s fourth annual Key Club Haiku Day. Town Wide Beautification Day was held on the 7th, and some Key Club volunteers participated in a day of service to benefit our own town. It was a fitting way to spend the day which happened to be Key Club’s 91st birthday. May 18th was our year-end officer retirement and installation party. Key

Clubbers congregated in the cafeteria to watch as old officers were retired and new officers were installed. We were honored to have some special guests attend: Mr. Hunt, our superintendent; Mrs. Schmitz, our principal; and Mr. Hladun, our Kiwanis advisor, were all in attendance. After the ceremonies everyone celebrated with Subway, drinks, and candy. It was a great way to end the year with Key Club. Thank you to the ever-supportive New Scotland Kiwanis Club for providing us with the subs! We would also like to thank our retired officers for all that they did for our club and wish our new officers the best of luck for next year. The following day, May 19th, some officers were guests at a New Scotland Kiwanis Club dinner. The officers met Kiwanis members and spoke about our accomplishments in Key Club. Some Key Clubbers took time off from Memorial Day celebrations to volunteer on the 28th. Participating volunteers provided their service by making sure kids stayed safe while using the bounce houses at the firehouse party.
May 2016 This month, we would like to congratulate Annie Scherer as Member of the Month. Annie had the highest number of Key Club service hours this year—she volunteered in total for a whopping 41.25 hours. Thank you for your incredible service, Annie! As we end this school year, we would like to draw some attention to our Key Club’s achievements. We have grown so much over the past year—we now boast an impressive 82 members. Those 82 members together volunteered for over 1,300 hours this year, as our Secretary, Abby, mentioned in her pamphlet for the party. That is absolutely amazing. Congratulations to everyone for your work. We would also like to thank our Key Club seniors. Whether you have been a member for one year or four, you helped make a difference in your community. Voorheesville Key Club wants to wish you the best of luck in your journey after high school. We will miss you all!
