LINCOLNSHIRE HOUSEBUILDER PARTNERS WITH LOCAL PRIMARY SCHOOL TO CREATE A BEE FRIENDLY GARDEN

CHILDREN from Sibsey Free Primary School have joined Lincolnshire housebuilder, Chestnut Homes, to help design and plant bee-friendly garden areas at its recently launched Millers Walk development in Sibsey.

As part of the partnership, some pupils in years four and five at the primary school were tasked with getting creative and designing their take on an eye-catching and sustainable bee-friendly garden.

Chestnut Homes worked alongside gardeners from West Lindsey Landscapes and the primary school to bring the designs to life. As part of the exercise, the pupils got stuck in to helping to plant a range of blooms they had chosen, which are all known for their bee-attracting qualities. These included verbenas, geranium, hydrangeas, lavender, lupine and evergreen foliage including ivy and thyme.

Olivia Stephenson, marketing manager at Chestnut Homes, said: “It’s been refreshing to see the enthusiasm the students from Sibsey Primary School have for wildlife and their excitement to see their work in real life. Supporting the Lincolnshire landscape and the communities in which we build in is really important to us. And, we’re pleased to have been able to help the students learn more about the importance

of bees and insects.

“This initiative was also a great way to highlight what people can do in their own gardens to create a bee-friendly environment, while also sprucing up their outdoor spaces for spring and summer.”

Chestnut Homes’ new Millers Walk development features 172 new-build homes and comprises a selection of two, three, four, and five-bedroom houses, located in the heart of the Lincolnshire countryside.

Its two new show homes – The Franklin which has three bedrooms, and the four-bedroom Worthing House - are now available for house buyers to view and are ideal for expanding families, first-time buyers, and downsizers alike.

Mr Wright, Headteacher for years one to six at Sibsey Primary School, said: “The children loved visiting the Chestnut Homes show homes at Millers Walk. It was great to see them really get stuck in to

DOBBIES BOSTON SEARCHES FOR BEST LOCAL AMATEUR GARDENERS

Dobbies Boston is inviting amateur gardeners, of all ages and backgrounds from across the region, to enter its annual Not Your Average Gardener Awards which launches from World Environment Day.

Set to celebrate novice gardeners and enthusiasts alike, Dobbies’ Boston store is marking its fourth year of the awards with the help of a robust panel of horticultural and wildlife experts to crown four winners.

With four new categories, judges will be looking for a variety of gardeners of all abilities from across Boston to put themselves, or a friend or family member, forward to be in with the chance of scooping Dobbies’ annual gardening prize.

Dobbies’ Senior Houseplant Buyer and recently appointed Royal Horticultural Society Chair of Assessors, Claire Bishop, will join Dobbies’ Horticultural Director and seasoned judge, Marcus Eyles, to crown the new Creative Indoor Gardener and Little Eco Gardener categories. Claire said: “It’s a real honour to be part of the Not Your Average Gardener Awards for its fourth year and I can’t wait to see the talent from our houseplant enthusiasts in Boston.

“The awards have been designed with full inclusivity in mind, so we’re looking for people of all ages and skill levels to get in touch and tell us about their vibrant green space that they have a real passion for.”

RePollinate, a Scottish-based charity that conserves and enhances the UK’s threatened pollinators through education, scientific research and the creation of pollinator friendly habitats, will judge the Wildlife Friendly Garden category.

Leigh Biagi, Project Coordinator at RePollinate, is thrilled to be partnering with Dobbies on the judging panel. She said: “We are so delighted to be asked to judge the Wildlife Friendly Gardener category of the awards. At RePollinate we are passionate about doing all we can to support nature in our green spaces, no matter how big or small that space may be, and we know that this passion is shared by many gardeners. It will be exciting to see the entries and discover what people are doing to support sustainability and welcome nature into their gardens.”

Social media gardening expert, Michael Griffiths, aka The Mediterranean Gardener, joins the panel to judge the Plant to Plate Gardener category.

helping to create stunning garden landscapes which not only look wonderful, but more importantly, help to look after the nation’s bee population. It was a really fun day out where our students could learn more about our ecosystem and the importance of animals and wildlife.

“We’d like to thank Chestnut Homes for providing this experience for our pupils.”

Chestnut Homes also has a range of developments across Lincolnshire including Bridgeways in Alford, Kings Manor in Coningsby, The Meadows in Dunholme, Chantrey Park in Market Rasen, The Quadrant and Heron Park in Wyberton.

For more information on Chestnut Homes, visit www.chestnuthomes.co.uk

He said: “I’m delighted to be part of this year’s Not Your Average Gardener Awards, and can’t wait to see all the fantastic entries from gardeners in Boston. It’s a great opportunity to celebrate the creativity and commitment of amateur gardeners, who invest their time and skill into making wonderful outside spaces with a grow your own focus.”

There’s a prize pot of £4,000 to help successful applicants take their award-winning garden to the next level, each taking home a £1,000 giftcard to spend in their local Dobbies’ store. Team members will be on hand to help winners select the best sustainable products and plants for their space.

A Farm in the middle of Grimsby? No Way!

Have you visited the petting farm located in the centre of a housing estate in Grimsby, North East Lincs?

Nunny’s Farm is a petting farm on 5 acres of land surrounded by houses on the Nunsthorpe Estate in Grimsby. This urban farm was started by Neil Campbell and Joanna Holbrook-Morris to provide visitors with opportunities to improve their health and well-being through education by accessing farm animals and nature without having to travel too far out of the town.

The paddocks and shelters have been built by lots of willing volunteers, and a small team of staff since 2019, with the grand opening unfortunately stopped by lockdown. Opening in April 2021 it is now open 7 days a week 10 – 5pm from April to October. Prices are kept low at just £3.50 per person, to ensure that cost doesn’t create a barrier for visitors.

The farm provides a safe and secure environment where visitors can feed, pet, and even walk the animals, who are all residents for life. Many of the animals have been rescued, donated, or have come to retire here. There is everything you would expect from rabbits & guinea pigs to alpacas and highland cows.

Visitors can even enjoy coffee and cake in the small plant-based tearoom, whilst enjoying this little slice of the countryside right in the heart of the town.

Various events take place throughout the year, a teddy bears picnic in July, Peppa & George Pig in August and Cinderella during Halloween, to their very own Farmer Christmas stopping by on his tractor sleigh, and free entry event days which are sponsored by local organisations.

The farm aims to be accessible to all, and has recently been accredited with Makaton Friendly status, so visitors using Makaton can communicate with the team.

Nunny’s Farm provides opportunities for volunteering, community payback, CSR, work-experience as well as supporting children and young people who struggle in mainstream education.

As a not-for-profit organisation the farm uses the income generated from admission costs to develop the services and improve the facilities on the site. To enable the farm to remain open throughout the winter the next project will be a fit-for-purpose visitors building.

If you are interested in supporting this project, please contact Joanna@nunnysfarmcic.org for more details.

EMBRACE THE SUMMER VIBES

REFRESHING YOUR HOME WITH STYLISH DECOR AND COLOURS

With the arrival of summer, it’s time to give your home a refreshing makeover that captures the essence of the season. From incorporating summer-inspired furniture to updating your walls with pastel shades and vibrant colours, there are countless ways to transform your living space into a breezy and inviting oasis.

In this article, we’ll explore some exciting ideas to decorate your home for summer, choose furniture that complements your interior, follow the latest summer trends, and infuse your walls with the perfect pastel shades and summer colours.

EMBRACING THE SUMMER

AESTHETIC WITH FURNITURE:

When selecting furniture for your home interior, opt for pieces that exude summer vibes. Wicker or rattan furniture is an excellent choice for both indoor and outdoor spaces, adding a touch of natural warmth and texture. To create a coastal atmosphere, consider incorporating nautical-themed accents such as striped cushions or maritime-inspired artwork. Additionally, lightweight and breathable fabrics like linen or cotton can provide a cool and relaxed ambience during the hot summer months

SUMMER TRENDS TO ELEVATE YOUR DÉCOR:

Stay on-trend this summer by incorporating

the latest interior design styles into your home. One popular trend is embracing organic elements such as indoor plants and botanical prints. Succulents, ferns, and other greenery not only add a touch of nature but also purify the air and create a soothing atmosphere. Another trend to consider is the use of vibrant tropical patterns and bold, tropical colours. These can be introduced through statement pieces, such as accent chairs or printed throw pillows, instantly revitalizing any space.

REFRESHING YOUR WALLS WITH PASTEL SHADE PAINTS:

Pastel shades are synonymous with summer and can create a serene and airy ambience in your home. Consider painting your walls in soft hues like pale pink, mint green, sky blue, or lemon yellow. These colours evoke a sense of freshness and lightness, instantly transforming any room. If you prefer a more subtle approach, choose an accent wall and paint it in a pastel shade, pairing it with lighter neutrals for a balanced and sophisticated look.

INFUSING YOUR HOME WITH SUMMER COLORS:

Summer is all about vibrant and lively colours that reflect the energy of the season. Introduce pops of colour through accessories such as decorative pillows, curtains, and area rugs. Incorporate hues like coral, turquoise, lemon, or fuchsia to instantly uplift your space. If you prefer a more muted palette, opt for shades inspired by the beach, such as soft sandy beige, ocean blues, and seafoam greens. These colours will evoke a serene coastal vibe, perfect for summer relaxation. As the summer sun graces your home, take the opportunity to revitalize your living space with a fresh and vibrant makeover. By selecting summer-inspired furniture, incorporating trendy elements, and infusing pastel shades and summer colours into your walls and décor, you can create an inviting sanctuary that captures the essence of the season. Embrace the spirit of summer, and let your home reflect the warmth, brightness, and beauty of this magical time of the year.

HOMES & GARDENS

With the arrival of summer, it’s time to prepare your outdoor spaces for the glorious days ahead. Whether you have a garden, conservatory, or allotment, there are plenty of ways to spruce up these areas and make the most of the warm weather.

GETTING YOUR OUTDOOR SPACES S UMM ER READY

In this article, we’ll delve into ideas for new furniture in the garden, explore the charm of wicker furniture for the conservatory, and discuss essential outbuildings that can enhance your gardening experience. Additionally, we’ll provide tips on maintaining your lawn, planting vibrant plants and flowers, and creating a welcoming space for the whole family to enjoy.

When it comes to garden furniture, choose pieces that combine both style and functionality. Opt for weather-resistant materials such as teak, aluminum, or polyrattan that can withstand the elements. Consider a comfortable outdoor sofa or a dining set to create a cosy gathering spot for family and friends. To add a touch of luxury, invest in a hammock or swing chair where you can relax and soak up the summer breeze. Don’t forget to include practical accessories like sun umbrellas or a gazebo for shade during the hottest hours of the day.

Wicker furniture is an excellent choice for conservatories, as it effortlessly combines elegance with a natural aesthetic. Wicker chairs, sofas, and coffee tables create a relaxed and inviting atmosphere, ideal for enjoying your morning coffee or curling up with a good book. Enhance the ambiance with soft cushions and throws in vibrant summer colours. To create a cohesive look, consider incorporating potted plants or botanical prints that bring the outdoors inside.

ESSENTIAL OUTBUILDINGS FOR THE KEEN GARDENER:

For those with a green thumb, outbuildings are essential for organizing tools, growing produce, and providing extra space for relaxation. A shed is ideal for storing gardening equipment, such as lawnmowers, rakes, and shovels, keeping them protected from the elements. A greenhouse offers the perfect environment for growing fruits, vegetables, and delicate plants all year round. And a summer house can be a delightful addition, serving as a play area for children or a quiet retreat to enjoy the garden’s beauty.

GARDENING TIPS:

To keep your lawn looking its best during summer, mow it regularly at

a suitable height to promote healthy growth. Water your lawn deeply but infrequently, preferably in the early morning or late evening, to minimize evaporation. When it comes to planting vibrant plants and flowers, choose varieties that thrive in the summer months. Consider colourful blooms like sunflowers, petunias, marigolds, and zinnias. Opt for a mix of perennials and annuals to ensure a continuous display of colour throughout the season.

Preparing your outdoor spaces for summer is an exciting endeavour that allows you to make the most of the warm weather and create an inviting haven for relaxation and enjoyment.

The Lincoln Tea & Coffee Company Is 10 Years Old A Decade Of The Fresh Approach

The Lincoln Tea & Coffee Company is constantly growing and developing and has moved up a level in the last few years. Developing Lincolnshire’s very own Lincolnshire Tea, being the first triple hat trick sponsor of the MOD, creating products for Charities such as St Barnabas and being fortunate enough to be contacted by Wrendale Designs and launch a joint collaboration for King Charles Coronation Tea.

To mark this exciting milestone, Susie has proudly reflected on the last 10 years…

“I started The Lincoln Tea & Coffee Company to fulfil a personal passion and dream whilst bringing up my two school aged children. I felt that this was the right time for my family, that it would truly fit in and my business would grow alongside my children.

Since starting our family, I had worked in my husband’s business doing the accounts. This worked well and enabled me to be flexible. I could manage my own time, often working from home during school hours. I enjoy every moment, my family always comes first.

So, alongside being mum, wife and doing accounts for my husband, I thought it was time for me to follow my business dream in my spare time! How much time could a small business that supplies tea and coffee take?! I started my dream at the kitchen table, where it was initially registered on my laptop and even thought of the name ‘The Lincoln Tea and Coffee Company’ whilst changing the bed!

I have had a true passion for tea since I was a small girl, which I shared with my nan and parents; my favourite being Jasmine Tea from China. As a family, we found it a challenge to find tea and coffee we loved, so we knew quality tea products from around the world was essential. My first contact being an amazing plantation in Sri Lanka, I then went on to work with different tea experts.

This thirst for knowledge also extended to the coffee sector and we have worked with many experts and knowledgeable people along our journey. Within the first 6 months of the company, I had collaborated with a world renowned coffee roasting team, espresso manufacturers and even gained a City and Guilds in Barista Skills Level 2 to Distinction level. All in my spare time, of course!

Founded in 2013, The Lincoln Tea & Coffee Company is proudly celebrating a decade this year. Ten years on and still driven by the same values; a customer focused company whose logo stands for quality and passion. A family run business who supply award-winning products and service and stand out for being leaders in sustainability and innovation.

My background was customer services in London before meeting my husband John and moving to my new home of Lincolnshire, so it was important to me that service was an area in which the company would always shine. My dream turned from a fledgling business that had gained a fabulous reputation, to being asked to not only sell to the end users we had originally set out to supply but also to hotels, coffee shops and conference centres that loved what we sold and the service we provided.

I went from doing the accounts to running a new business, learning new skills and juggling many business hats. As the founder of the business, I did it all from; marketing, sales, barista training, social media, product design to delivery driver and more. This was at the same time as being a fulltime mum and wife and often feeling guilty, as so many mums do.

People often ask me how I set up a tea and coffee company from scratch, that it must have been rather a challenge. I must confess to sometimes feeling a little overwhelmed and that I had maybe bitten off more than I could chew! Stubbornness and the strong will to succeed have always been my best friends.

It has been true teamwork that has helped the company go on to succeed further. From my vision and ‘sparkly’ business brain to my husband John becoming increasingly involved in the business over the years, with his great engineering and sales skills to our daughter choosing to work with us at events and then going on to design product packaging, adverts and brochures.

Then we started to employ and now have the most incredible team. They bring fabulous skills and passion. With the range of talents we have between us, I no longer need to juggle a variety of roles on my own. We really are the dream team.

The Lincoln Tea and Coffee Company is truly a successful family business and I am so proud of our products, our reputation, our growth, our awards, our trophies, our Great Taste Producer status and so much more. As a team, we are proud of our roles, the partnerships we form, the display teams we sponsor, the valued customers we support, our vision, our skills, the company’s success and the business as a whole.

Now, as we celebrate our 10 year anniversary, I sometimes have to pinch myself to believe all that has been achieved. I realise now that dream has become reality and wonder what the next 10 years will bring!”

Plans are to remain focused on supplying awardwinning products and services and developing more innovative lines, whilst maintaining the same excellent service they are so well known for. Whoever is involved in the future, Carlisle or not, they will be a huge part of the extended family that is The Lincoln Tea & Coffee Company.

(AGE-RELATED MACULAR DEGENERATION) TREATMENT AVAILABLE NOW! Hospital Grade Advanced OCT Eye Exams by Dr Janjua Specialist Lenses For Various Eye Conditions Widest Variety of Frames in Brigg lincolnshireinfocus.co.uk

As we age, our sight tends to become less clear, and some of us will develop what is known as “Dry Age-related Macular Degeneration”. When this happens, the central area of our vision darkens and becomes blurred, making it difficult to see detail, and preventing activities such as driving, reading, watching TV, using computers, tablets, and so on. Even recognising faces can prove difficult.

Until recently, there were no effective treatments for Dry AMD, the only suggestions being lifestyle changes or dietary

supplements. Now, sufferers will be delighted to learn that there is a newly developed treatment available locally. It is a safe, noninvasive, painless therapy which is fully approved under European and UK directives.

This breakthrough treatment is known as photobiomodulation (PBT) and uses a cold laser system to produce low levels of red, yellow and infra-red light to stimulate the centre of vision by energising and providing oxygen for cell repair.

Results from extensive monitored trials of the therapy show that for many Dry AMD sufferers, there can be an improvement in sharpness of vision corresponding to some 5 or 8 extra letters on the testing chart. This therapy has also been shown to help diabetics who have certain eye problems related to their diabetes.

Trio of Dignity funeral directors join forces to establish new business in iconic Grimsby Building

JW Emberson, Steven Near and SS Wilson

In an exciting development, three well-established funeral directors, JW Emberson, Steven Near, and SS Wilson, have joined forces to purchase the iconic Customs House building situated on Cleethorpe Road in Grimsby. Their collective vision is to establish a brand-new funeral business that will be unveiled to the public within the next 12 to 15 months, following an extensive refurbishment of the premises.

The investment in this venture will encompass the creation of a spacious service chapel, a hospitality suite, a community function room, a multicultural wash and dress room, stateof-the-art preparation areas, and an ample car park. These facilities have been thoughtfully designed to meet the diverse needs of the community.

This announcement follows closely on the heels of Waltham Funeral Service, a branch of JW Emberson, relocating to the former Swags and Tails boutique on Waltham High Street. This strategic move further emphasizes the commitment of the group to expanding its presence and enhancing its services for the local community.

Clark Kerr, the business leader at JW Emberson, expressed his delight at the prospect of opening the new funeral home in the coming months. He highlighted the recent rebranding of their local businesses under the name JW Emberson, which is accompanied by an updated website featuring comprehensive information about their existing branches. This online resource will continue to evolve as the plans for the new venture progress.

Once the refurbishment work is complete, the team plans to organize an open day to showcase their new facilities within the iconic Customs House building. LOCAL CAR RETAILER’S LATEST EVS OFFER INCREASED DRIVING RANGE AND GREATER EFFICIENCY

new

Stoneacre Lincoln, on Lincoln Fields, is offering Lincoln drivers the chance to discover more about the increased driving range and improved efficiency of its new Volvo C40 and XC40 Recharge pure electric models.

With staycations becoming more popular than ever for many UK households, having a car that can go the distance is a top priority for drivers. The updated C40 and XC40 are capable of travelling up to 342 and 334 miles respectively, a big step up from the current models, allowing drivers to get to their destinations quicker and with even greater ease.

While sustainability continues to be at the forefront of people’s minds, drivers will be pleased to know that the cars’ energy efficiency has also improved, with the most efficient C40 and XC40 versions now capable of up to 3.7 miles per kWh, taking drivers farther for their money.

These benefits are down to Volvo’s cutting-edge technology, which includes an electric motor developed specifically for the new models. In the single-motor cars, this new motor offers drivers 238hp, up from the outgoing models’ 231hp. Further enhancements include improved battery cooling efficiency.

The new all-wheel-drive C40 and XC40 versions also benefit from speedier charging times, thanks to an increase in the maximum charging rate, meaning the cars can charge from 10% to 80% battery capacity in just 28 minutes – perfect for busy lives and long journeys.

Andy McInnes, Business Manager at Stoneacre Lincoln, said: “We’re delighted to be able to offer the new and improved C40 and XC40 to Lincoln drivers.

“The new models offer the best balance of performance and efficiency possible without compromising on quality or safety. The increased distance capabilities and faster charging times will give our customers much more freedom and flexibility when using their cars, allowing more drive-time and less waiting.

“We’d like to invite Lincoln drivers to pop along to Stoneacre Lincoln to speak to our team of experts, who are always on hand to answer any questions drivers might have when it comes to buying a car and switching to electric.”

MOTORING
A Lincoln car retailer is inviting local drivers to find out more about its electric car range.

Lincolnshire’s premier motorhome dealership

Camper UK believes prioritising customers is essential to stay in business. They sell and service motorhomes, with many successful side ventures including the Camper UK Leisure Park, Accessoryshop and hire. They were established in 2004 and have faced many challenges since then, but Dean Hyde, the self-employed owner of Camper UK, navigated through each one excellently. Dean and his partners were disappointed in the levels of customer service and believed that they could do better, which is why they decided to focus their new business solely on satisfying their customers.

Customers are always left fulfilled: “It is so refreshing to meet a genuine and professional company delivering a first-class service and taking pride in their work.” We exceed customers’ expectations through allowing them to join our Phoenix Club for three years, once they have purchased a motorhome, which allows them free entry to our fun-filled Open Weekends and many discounts; this level of service is unmatched in this industry, explaining why people travel from as far away as Australia to visit Camper UK. Our manufacturers have also placed us as the best dealer workshop in Europe, meaning if they have a customer from abroad visiting the UK, experiencing a problem, they will always divert them to Camper UK with the reassurance it will get resolved.

In 2014, Camper faced a huge challenge when their whole premises went up in flames, destroying everything. While many would have seen this as the end of the road, Dean quoted, ‘we wish to make it completely clear that whilst we are down, we are by no means out’. He ran the company from his home using different rooms for different departments and, as unlikely as that may sound, he made it work. They say that it is in adversity that you see the true measure of a person, and this horrific ordeal brought out the best in Dean.

Covid could not have happened at a worse time, it was the busiest season for the motorhome industry; customers wanting to collect their new

motorhomes or have existing ones serviced. However, each day without exception Dean would keep the entire workforce updated, showing he was committed to reducing the effects of the pandemic for staff. The Great Place to Work Scheme was also introduced after the pandemic to allow staff to suggest improvements for the business and fun teambuilding activities, including escape rooms, bowling and charity golf; this boosts morale and empowers their employees.

What makes Camper UK special? That’s easy. Customer service, year on year customers keep coming back because they know they will be looked after. Camper UK’s mantra: “Right 1st time, on time, every time”, creates sustained benefits for customers, helping Camper UK succeed long into the future; as good old customer service cannot be replaced. Dean has raised the profile of Camper UK, through consistently pushing to improve his business, winning the young business of the year award in 2005, Director of the year awards in 2018 and now Lincolnshire Business of the Year 2022, by emphasising how well we’ve dealt with the challenges spoken about above!
