EDITOR PAGE This new February 2020 edition of the Web Express Guide, marks the official exit of the UK from the EU and a new beginning for the European Union. Watching the antics, the clowning and the insulting behaviour of Nigel Farrage at the E.U. meetings makes me embarrassed to be a British National. The behaviour at the very last meeting, despite the educated comments made by other representatives, was so disgraceful that he and his band were told to leave before closing and to take the Union Jacks with them. This is exactly the behaviour and the expression of feelings that represents the people who voted to leave.Well, good luck to them. I am happy in the knowledge that I can look forward to continue working and living in a country that has made me welcome and shown me respect for who I am. The flamenco show consists of around two hours of an intense and awesome flamenco performance. Musical instruments such as the piano, sax, trombone, vocals and guitars are mixed with the passion of the dance and the flamenco soul. The performance is divided into some thematic parts separated by breaks so that attendees can feel the flamenco experience at the same time that they enjoy a typical southern Spanish dinner. Our cuisine merges tradition and avant-garde with the integration of products from the local region. At the beginning of the show, attendees are given a bottle of ‘manzanilla’ as one of the most popular wines of Andalusia. Besides, customers have the choice to order additional drinks or portions of the offered menu.

ART & EDUCATION Juan Emilio Ríos Vera, nació en Algeciras en 1.966. Licenciado en Filología Hispánica e investigador suficiente por la Universidad de Cádiz. Actualmente ejerce de presidente del Ateneo “José Román” de Algeciras, de la sección VI del Instituto de Estudios Campogibraltareños, y como presidente fundador del Ateneo de Manilva. Además, es vocal de la comisión municipal para la conservación del patrimonio histórico local de Algeciras, presidente de la Agrupación Poética “José Luis Cano”, Delegado del grupo de la Memoria Histórica del Campo de Gibraltar del PSOE, miembro de la Asociación de Críticos de España, del Centro Andaluz de las Letrasy de la Unión Nacional de Escritores de España.
Todavía resuenan en mis retinas como martillazos las escalofriantes imágenes de los bombardeos con gas sarín sobre la población civil en Siria. Los cuerpos convulsionando entre un caos de sangre, vísceras, escombros y destrucción, los niños despedazados en el suelo, el horror en estado puro retransmitido prácticamente en directo. Ayer mismo vi a periodistas llorando tras un atentado en Alepo que destrozó a hombres, mujeres y niños, a un fotógrafo soltar su cámara para socorrer a un niño y llevarlo en sus brazos hacia las asistencias y luego caer derrumbado al suelo en un mar de lágrimas de impotencia y de desolación. Y las potencias retándose para comprobar quién la tiene más grande (la bomba). Los americanos tienen la madre de todas las bombas y los rusos tienen al padre, que es cuatro veces más destructivo que la madre. Y resulta que fue la hija del presidente americano la que le aconsejó que mandara lanzarla y el padre asintió sin poder negarse. Esto es una locura. Y ante esta hecatombe y esta sinrazón surge la pregunta que me hago a diario sin descanso: ¿Qué podemos hacer los poetas ante esta barbarie que nos asola y nos arruina los almuerzos desde el televisor? Yo creo que mucho.
Y me acuerdo en este momento de Gloria Fuertes que quiso ir a la guerra para pararla. Podemos en primer lugar asumir la catástrofe, la tragedia que acabamos de ver y no olvidarla con la velocidad que desaparecen las noticias de los informativos sino retenerla en las retinas y reflexionar y pensar sobre ella y que nos agreda y nos amargue el día y nos quite el sueño y nos martillee el cerebro. Luego podemos echar mano de las palabras para escribir sobre ello poemas, artículos como éste, manifiestos que conciencien a la ciudadanía. Podemos reunirnos y reflexionar en grupo, podemos manifestarnos invocando a los poetas andaluces por la paz, asociación que fundara Manuel Fernández Mota y del que cogí emocionado el testigo o a los Poetas Pro Derechos Humanos, Asociación que dirige Isabel Oliver desde Valencia y de la que formamos parte muchos poetas de Algeciras. Podemos incendiar las redes sociales con nuestras protestas, podemos irnos a la Avenida Gesto por la Paz a leer poemas y a exigir un mundo más humano como ya hemos hecho en varias ocasiones, pero sobre todo podemos elevar nuestra rabia a las autoridades competentes para que sepan que nos duele el mundo en nuestras carnes. ¡Qué sangre la poesía, os pido, poetas!

3 slices thick-cut bacon cut into 1 cm. pieces 8 bone-in, skinless chicken thighs 300 grs. frozen pearl onions 300 grs. mushrooms, trimmed and cut in half 1 tablespoon tomato paste 1 1/2 teaspoons chopped fresh thyme 2 cloves garlic, minced 1 cup dry red wine 2 cups chicken stock 3 tablespoons cornstarch Crusty bread, for serving

Method
1. Using a casserole pot, cook the bacon over medium heat until browned but not too crispy then with a slotted spoon transfer to a small bowl. Season the chicken with salt and pepper, increase the heat to medium-high. Working in batches, cook the chicken until golden brown, about 5 minutes per side. Transfer the chicken to a plate. 2. Add the onions and mushrooms to the pot and cook, stirring occasionally, until they begin to soften, about 2 minutes; season. 3. Stir in the tomato paste, thyme and garlic. Add the wine and cook, scraping up any browned bits, until the wine is reduced by half, about 5 minutes. 4. Add the stock and bring to a simmer. Return the chicken and any juices to the pot. Reduce the heat to low, partially cover and gently simmer, turning the chicken once or twice, until the chicken is cooked through and the onions are tender, about 40 minutes. 5. In a small bowl, dissolve the corn-starch in 3 tbsp. water. Transfer the chicken to a plate. Increase the heat to medium-high and bring the cooking liquid to a boil. Add the corn-starch mixture and stir until thickened, about 3 minutes; season. 6. Return the chicken and bacon to the pot, stirring to coat. Serve in shallow bowls with crusty bread.

He also said the referendum result in 2016 had left him “hugely depressed” and he knew “some people will never forgive me”. The Times Obesity among primary school leavers to hit 40% by 2024. Almost four in ten children leaving primary school in 2024 will be clinically obese or overweight, according to a new report from Public Health England. Experts predict that 38.1% of 11-year-olds will be an unhealthy weight in five years’ time, compared with 34.3% at present. Current data shows that children from poorer areas are more than twice as likely to be overweight as those from more affluent neighbourhoods. The Independent Slow walking at 45 ‘a sign of faster ageing’. How fast people walk in their 40s is a sign of how much their brains, as well as their bodies, are ageing, scientists have suggested. Using a simple test of gait speed, researchers were able to measure the ageing process. Consumers spend more money on credit cards than on cash. I may be biased but, one of the most popular summer locations is and always will be Southern Spain. The reason is obvious: sunshine, Mediterranean, beaches, good food, cheap drinks, plenty to do and lots of places to visit. All at prices that are still comparatively cheap even when looking for the more exclusive and more expensive restaurants or hotels. Most importantly, it is probably one of the safest places to visit with an excellent medical service available, although you need to make sure you are covered by an adequate health plan. One is spoilt for choice between tour operators and cheap airlines, the latter is one of the incentives that encourage holiday makers to buy their second home and even move to Spain as residents. This is happening with British nationals even more so now after Brexit. The nearest competitor to Southern Spain is Southern Portugal. Portugal in general is cheaper than Spain or Greece and about half the price of England and Germany, but food and drink in the tourist centres are the same price as back home. The other difference is that beaches, however beautiful, are not on the Mediterranean but on the Atlantic Ocean. Both countries are a stone throw away from all major European cities and well serviced by cheap airlines. Always bearing in mind costs, the third alternative is Greece and its islands. Historically, Greece has always been a major tourist destination in Europe for its rich culture and history, as well as for its long coastline, the many islands and Mediterranean beaches. Prices however are about 3.5% more expensive than Spain.
Greece also is a relatively safe place to visit and Greeks are quite friendly, though the language is somewhat more difficult to learn. Visiting a “bouzouki” club and getting stoned while listening and dancing “Zorba the Greek style” to the excessively loud folk music is an experience worth trying at least once while dishes are smashed at your feet and some flowers thrown at you in apreciacion. What amazes me is the amount of TV adverts promoting Turkey and other Middle-Eastern Countries. I mean how cheap do you want to be? So close to Iraq and Syria, how safe can Turkey be? What kind of a holiday is it when precautions should be taken to avoid the chances of being caught up in civil unrest or a terrorist attack? Last year Turkey launched an attack against Kurdish-held positions in northern Syria! How attractive can cheap be? To be fair, so far, the majority of attacks have been in the cities, away from the popular tourist coastal areas. The stealing of passports and valuables is another thing to watch out for. Whatever you do the choice is non ending, you can visit Disneyland in Paris or Miami, New York, Golf Holidays or even the Far East, but then this is another matter.

As soon as testosterone starts to be generated during adolescence, the process is activated. It is like diabetes, familial hypercholesterolemia or essential arterial hypertension: as long as we are unable to modify the genes involved, the treatment merely slows down the problem.
Therefore the drugs mentioned earlier should be taken indefinitely. What is important is that the sooner the treatment is started, the better, once stopped 50% of the gain is lost. The minimum period of treatment is a couple of years. Many users of Minoxidil, stop after a couple of months thinking it does not work, just because it shows no noticeable effect for six months. The last option: baldness: Both doctors advise that androgenetic alopecia is an aesthetic matter and does not affect one’s health. Some people assume that they are going to go bald, just like their father, this is more difficult to accept by women. Perhaps the key lies in accepting yourself with a sense of humour, like the Roman philosopher Seneca who said “I do not consider myself bald, it is just that I am taller than my hair”.

Only 2% of the world’s population has red hair, and it would seem that their physiognomy makes them different in some ways. MY OPINION
IT’S NOT THE END OF THE WORLD! So, the United Kingdom has left Europe, but it hasn’t really has it? I have no doubt it was a bad move as far as the UK is concerned. What made it worse is that everybody else had to suffer for over 3½ years causing panic to many businesses that actually moved away to Europe to safeguard their markets, while other changed their way of working and even suppliers. Several closed down and some are still in the process of doing so. Let’s not mention the retail trade, the High Streets which have suffered the worst Christmas trade known to them. The High Streets are beginning to look like abandoned because of the number of shops that have closed down, including some well known names.
I really fail to understand how it is conceivable that this was allowed to take place. How is it possible that voters elected a proven liar and cheat to run the country? So what has been achieved by the new government? In a nutshell, the loss of the largest and nearest market, the breakup from the European Union and, on the horizon, the breakup of the United Kingdom itself. All on a promise (?) to probably continue doing business with the EU with terms to be agreed (?) in order to reach markets further afield which was possible anyway with or without Brexit.

MY OPINION
So where does all this leave us? As far as Europe is concerned, I would imagine that it has gained from the influx of businesses moving away to the EU, especially on the financial services front. The uncertainty of a doubtful future has also caused an increased influx of UK residents moving to Europe to join the existing number of UK residents in France, Spain, Portugal, Germany and the rest. Many of the European skilled workers and technicians performing a necessary duty in the UK have abandoned their positions to return to their respective EU countries. Why stay under the uncertainty of possibly getting expelled after trying to build a future for themselves and their families? By the same token, even unskilled workers doing jobs 38

that British resident would not normally do have also left for greener pastures. All to the benefit of the EU. What about EU exports? Has the EU lost on exports to the UK? I cannot see Brexiters, with the few short summer days in June doing without their holidays to sunny Spain. Nor can I see them doing away with French perfumes, French & Italian wines, olive oil, fresh fruit and veggies and the rest. Someone has forgotten to mention that Britain is an island and that it needs to import more that it exports, especially after the continuous and systematic destruction of all types of industries that Britain used to be known for.

MY OPINION
It makes you wonders what the 3½ years’ turmoil and disruption was all about. The British government does not seem to care much about its own residents leaving and residing abroad. Since Brexit started there has hardly been a mention about protecting them or even showing some concern after promising a United Europe without frontiers, after promising equal right as the rest of the EU citizens. Some UK residents in Europe, mainly pensioners, have had to leave and go back to the UK. Some have sold their homes, some have even abandoned them. Many, who retired in Europe depending on their pensions, found it impossible to survive after the drop in the value of the pound.
At the same time, many UK nationals working in the EU, and particularly in Spain, have shown a strong determination to remain undeterred and made sure that they are and remain EU residents. Some have even gone as far as changing their nationality rather than leave the EU, a large enough market with plenty of opportunities. After all the UK might even need to use their business to import its needs. I wonder what the next few years will bring, perhaps the Union Jack may have to be replaced with English, Scottish, Irish and even Welsh flags.

The project, which we had reported in one of our previous articles, is the creation of an outstanding Dressage Centre for competition horses al international level with an adjoining hotel. There is no other centre of this standing anywhere in AndalucĂa or even Spain. Vicente BoscĂĄ and his team are to be given credit for the realisation of this project from designing to completion.

The presentation was made and attended by Mr Pepe Carrasco, the Mayor of Casares where the centre is being built, Mr Mario Jimenez, the Mayor of Manilva where Matecno S.L. is located, Mr Luis Cordoba, veterinary and of course M/S Carla Bordoli, President of the Rotary Club International to give support to Vicente, a fellow Rotarian (photo 1 and 2)*. All that remains is to look forward to the opening of this centre once it is completed.

It will be a hard BREXIT for UK visitors to the EU Although there are no changes to the present rules until the end of 2020, the British Government has already announced that new restrictions and red tape will apply to holidaymakers and business travellers to the European Union, once the transition period expires.
It is unclear what he position will be with regards to the present European Health Insurance Card scheme. Private health insurance will most probably be required before travel.
With regards to dog, cats and ferrets with a valid passport, so far there has been no change mentioned however it all depends on possible restrictions imposed by the EU. The worst scenario is that the UK is given an unlisted status and owners will need to discuss their specific preparations and requirements with an Official Veterinarian at least four months prior to travelling. Motorists will need a “green card”, certificate extending their travel insurance to Europe. It may take a month to get one.
UK Passports should have a validity of almost 15 months before travelling.

Despite the holidays and the little time available, it is amazing what has been done and achieved by our club and by some of our members.
To start, we thank our club’s members and other donors for collecting and providing a large number of toys and books which were delivered by Carla Bordoli and Vicente Boscá to the “Asociación de Vecinos de la Barriada de los Pastores de Algeciras” on the 5th January to be given in time to needy children for the Three Kings celebration. On the 20th January John Harper from the Rotary Club in Walsall, England honoured us with his unexpected visit. For this reason, we held the whole meeting in English and he was really amazed by our enthusiasm and the projects done during the short life of our young club. Our President Carla Bordoli visited FITUR in Madrid to accompany Vicente Boscá who attended the public presentation of his latest project in Casares. On the 20th February’s meeting there will be an inspirational talk by Berend Smit & Diana Polder, the authors of “MY BOOK”. La faceta menos conocida de la modelo Karlie Kloss: le gusta tanto la programación que tiene su propio campamento, Kode with Klossy Hace cinco años, la estadounidense quiso aprender sobre programación. Estaba especialmente interesada en conocer el código Ruby y, para ello, se matriculó en la Universidad de Nueva York. Allí, no solo se dio cuenta de que, al igual que el arte y la moda, la codificación tenía que ver con la creatividad, sino que pudo observar que la mayoría de los alumnos eran hombres. En un artículo para la revista Teen Vogue, la modelo explicó que simplemente quería “saciar su curiosidad y entender lo que era codificar”: “No me imaginaba lo mucho que me iba a gustar aprender este lenguaje secreto, o cómo iba a inspirarme para comprometerme con que todas las niñas puedan aprender a codificar y ser líderes en el sector de la tecnología”. 52

Así fue cómo se le ocurrió la idea de fundar Kode with Klossy, en asociación con la escuela de codificación de Nueva York. Se trata de un campamento de verano para adolescentes de entre 13 y 18 años en el que, durante dos semanas, las participantes conocen los lenguajes de programación más utilizados y aprenden los principios básicos de códigos como Ruby, HTML y CSS.
BIOGRAFÍA
Aunque también es posible acudir varios veranos para seguir ampliando conocimientos y aprender Javacript y Sprint, un código que se utiliza para el desarrollo de apps en iOS. Fundado en 2015, el campamento tiene lugar todos los años en diferentes ciudades a lo largo y ancho de Estados Unidos. El año pasado se organizaron un total de 50 campamentos, repartidos en 25 ciudades, en los que participaron alrededor de 1.000 alumnas. Además, el programa es completamente gratuito. Las participante son elegidas a través de un proceso de selección en el que no es necesario tener conocimientos ni experiencia previa. En la actualidad, ya hay antiguas alumnas del campamento que han seguido sus estudios de informática en la universidad e incluso que han realizado prácticas en empresas como Microsoft. La importancia del impacto que tiene este programa y otras iniciativas orientadas a fomentar la educación de las mujeres en la ingeniería la explica la propia Karlie Kloss en la página web: “Las mujeres son esenciales para el progreso digital y saber codificar es la clave para explorar y crear nuevas fronteras”.
