GLOBAL WARMING WARNING A new study reveals that global warming will cause 74 million premature deaths if greenhouse gas emissions are not reduced to zero.
Gas emissions into the atmosphere today already affect the length of our lives, and are changing the planet's climate, but there is still time to mitigate its effects. Numerous studies already point to the gases emitted when burning fossil fuels as the cause of numerous direct deaths, but until now no study had taken into account all the factors that cause these emissions, including those derived from climate change. Previous analyses predicted more than 50,000 premature deaths in Europe due to air pollution. A new study published in Nature calculates the cost in lives by adding the effects of climate change in the form of heat waves, floods and crop failure. That is not counting the stupidity of unnecessary wars. The analysis estimates that for every 4,434 tons of CO2 released into the atmosphere, one person in the world will die prematurely due to some event related to the increase in temperature. The estimate is that 74 million lives could be saved if greenhouse gas emissions have been eliminated by 2050. If the trend continues as before, the global temperature will rise four degrees by the end of the century and the consequences will be catastrophic. THIRTEEN PEOPLE POLLUTE ENOUGH FOR ONE PERSON TO DIE PREMATURELY
On average, enough greenhouse gases are generated in the lifetime of 13 people for one person to die prematurely. In the most polluting countries, such as the United States, the emissions of just 3.5 people is enough for someone to lose their life. Daniel Bressler, author of the study, believes that we are in time to change this. In his own words, “I was surprised by the very high number of deaths that will occur. There is some uncertainty in this section, the number could be lower, but also higher. There is a significant number of lives that can be saved by applying more aggressive climate policies than usual.”
