Lane Cove Music Concert

Kuring-gai Male Choir Concert feature at Lane Cove Music’s final concert for 2019 next Tuesday November 26 in Lane Cove-Mowbray Anglican Church, 19 Rosenthal Avenue, Lane Cove (behind the Post Office) at 7.30pm.

Letters to the Editor Pedestrian traffic lights welcomed Dear Sir, I write to congratulate the Mayor of Ryde for inviting Secretary Steve and myself from the Eastwood Chamber of Commerce for a photo shoot at two Eastwood intersections, The Avenue and West Parade.

We welcome the latest traffic study that shows we do need pedestrian lights at those crossings.

This has been an ongoing concern with the residents, business and the community for well over 10 years.

I don’t want this to be political, I would like to see outcome. So we need action to help the Eastwood community.

I know the local member Mr Dominello offered $25 Million dollars to build a car park under the Eastwood oval and pedestrian lights at the mentioned crossings.

That was 2-3 years ago.

At the time council voted against that proposal, because they were waiting on a traffic study.

The traffic study is here now.

If Ryde Council has missed that window opportunity, for that money, then we should go to plan B. Council could pay for those pedestrian lights to be implemented as soon as possible.

This will be a great outcome and much needed safety for pedestrians, business, community, Mums and Dads who pick

up their children and attend Eastwood.

We have two primary schools and a Catholic high School, all within close distance to the Shopping precinct, and these intersections.

Ryde Council and Councillors have been very helpful with the Chamber in the past with our traffic concerns, including parking restrictions and problems with Hillview Lane.

Council has fixed those problems including made left turn only on to West Parade.

Companion dog alternatives Dear Sir, We agree with Alison’s point of view regarding some dogs left at the front of the house all day whilst owners are at work (Alison Quaid-Hynes, TWT 13-112019 re Companion Animals Act).

We take alternative routes to alleviate this situation.

Ryde Council were good enough to provide us with a very much needed fenced dog park, for dogs to socialise, etc.

Unfortunately, a path extends the length of the fence - people and cyclists pass every day. The riders enjoy trying to beat them and others wave or call out to the dogs.

Someone passed who clearly doesn’t understand that a dog barking is not the same as growling.

They complained to the Council and the owner

was issued with a caution headed “Dog Attack” with a picture of a muzzled Rottweiler, stating that if another complaint the owner could receive a fine of $1,360 dog muzzled and not allowed offleash.

The dog in question is very friendly and would more likely “lick you to death”!

The majority of dog owners who are aware of the situation feel this is very unfair especially as the purpose of fenced off leash areas is to allow dogs to run, bark and play.

We hope you can understand why we feel the Companion Animals Act needs to be amended for dogs such as ours.

Dear Sir, I recently had a relative from Europe visiting our country. What do you think of Australia I asked.

This is not Australia they quipped, this is China.

It only took a few weeks for a visitor to see what is happening to our country and how it is changing for the worst in my opinion.

People living here from a Chinese background now number close to one and a half million.

This is just Chinese, without counting the massive numbers of other Asians settling here.

Not content with selling our precious assets to the Chinese the idiots in Canberra are hell bent on turning Australia into an Asian nation without consulting the Australian public.

In a recent interview Malaysian PM Mahathir Mohamad said Asian immigration will eventually result in Australia becoming more Asian than European and as a consequence we would struggle to sustain our culture and language.

Would this ever happen say in China or Japan?

Not on you life.

Former Singapore PM Lee Kuan Yew once famously said that Australia was set to become the “poor white trash of Asia”.

At least the above mentioned spoke the truth and told it like they saw it.

Compare this with some of our idiots in Canberra who are changing and selling our country, our heritage and values all without careful thought and for a pittance.

Native bees join the scouts

Native bees have joined the scouts in Hunters Hill.

The 1st Hunters Hill Scout Group last week become custodians of the bees when it adopted a native stingless bee hive.

The Scouts bee project is being supported by Hunters Hill Councillor Elizabeth Krassoi and aims to educate the local community about the benefits of native stingless bees.

The Scouts said they will care for the hive, with support from leaders Lori Graff,

Kathy Ward, Tony Atkinson and Sara Micevski, as part of their earning their environment badges.

Mrs Graff said the Scouts were pleased to be working with Council to make the hive installation happen.

“The kids can work on their badges while they’re taking care of the garden and the bees,” she said.

Councillor Elizabeth Krassoi said the Scouts had foraged council clean-ups for materi-

als that were repurposed to make the protective outer housing for the hive.

“Thank you to Hunters Hill Scouts for taking on this project and supporting our little pollinators,” she said.

Scout Henry Squires said bees were very important to the environment.

“If we didn’t have bees then: one, bee farmers wouldn’t have bees to make honey; two, there wouldn’t be as many plants and; three, you

wouldn’t have honey toast,” he said.

They said a reduction in the use of pesticides, planting native plants and setting up a bee hive were ways in which people could attract bees to their own garden.

Bee educator and native beekeeper, meliponist Allyson Apte, said it was hoped the hive would increase environmental awareness, particularly about the difficulties bees were facing.

“They are endangered,” she said.

“We’ve got land clearing and drought and floods and fires.

“When this happens their habitat is gone, their food is gone.

“Hats off to 1st Hunters Hill Scouts and Hunter’s Hill Council for introducing native bees to the community.”

IN A defiant address to an extraordinary City of Ryde council meeting, Deputy Mayor Simon Zhou has accused his political opponents of a racist attack after they moved a motion that he and Mayor Jerome Laxale to stand down.

The unsuccessful motion at last Tuesday’s meeting called on them to stand down to coincide with a possible ICAC investigation into media claims that link Clr Zhou to an approved Yuhu Group development at Eastwood Plaza.

Liberal Clr Trenton Brown called on Clr Zhou to resign from the council altogether and made known his suspicions about the Deputy Mayor’s reasons for campaigning to join the council when he did not live in the City of Ryde yet spent a huge amount on his publicity campaign.

Enraged by the allegations Clr Zhou hit back in English and Mandarin, claiming to be the victim of organised racial hatred.

“If any organisation thinks they can eliminate me, myself and my lawyers will be rubbing their hands,” he said.

“These attacks on me have made me even stronger, they have backfired and are nothing more than bringing down a successful Chinese immigrant and it is time we immigrants fought back against this kind of bullying.”

With a cheering public gallery full of people holding signs supporting him, in English and Chinese, Clr Zhou did not stop there.

“My community is backing me as the only councillor here who doesn’t have a political agenda,” he said.

Clr Zhou said of the claims in the Australian Financial Review and other

major media outlets about his past links with the Yuhu Group that they are misleading journalism.

“It is fake news at its worst,” he said.

“The media is attacking me simply because I was born in China.

“The fact remains that neither myself or my family owned any shares in Yuhu and I was fully entitled to vote (on a Yuhu Group issue) but I did not vote and what I have done is both ethical and proper.”

Of the suspicions raised

by Clr Brown, he said that his reason for campaigning in the council election was that he had been successful in business and wanted to give something back to the community as well as represent a community that looked up to him and continues to rely on him for advice and support.

He then made a speech in Mandarin, which Mayor Jerome Laxale allowed despite objections from other councillors that it was not known what he was saying.

Public speaker George Wu had earlier accused Clr Zhou of representing the interests of the Chinese Communist Party on the council and Clr Brown alleged that Clr Zhou had recently attended a Chinese Communist Party endorsed ‘training’ session.

Councillor Brown also alleged Clr Zhou is part of a Soviet style bloc on the council with ‘socialist left’ Labor and Green councillors.

Labor Clr Penny Pedersen told the meeting she was appalled by Clr Brown’s claims and described the Liberal’s call for Mayor Laxale to stand down as a political stunt.

“The whole thing smells,” she said.

With the Liberal motion defeated, a counter motion from Labor passed with the casting vote of Mayor Laxale delegating authority to General Manager George Dedes to take legal and other action to “correct inaccurate media reports and public statements covering this matter”.

Both Clr Zhou and Clr Laxale voted on the matter, with only Clr Zhou disclosing a “Less than Significant, Non-Pecuniary interest” recorded in the minutes as “for the reason that he knows the landowner, Mr Huang of the Eastwood Centre (may be former owner),” while Liberal Councillor Jordan Lane tabled three documents related to Council’s April 2019 Code of Conduct policies.

Planning Manager Liz Coad had earlier confirmed that the Eastwood development had been approved by a local independent planning panel, while the Council’s Legal Counsel Paul Kapetas told the meeting that Council did not have the power to rescind a planning panel deci-

sion, which can only be overturned by the Land and Environment Court.

Mr Kapetas also said a council motion had no power to force the resignation of a councillor.

Independent Clr Roy Maggio backed the motion for the Mayor and Deputy Mayor to stand down but suggested it should be for a short period of several weeks while the matter was investigated.

Councillor Sarkis Yedelian OAM - who founded Ryde’s racial harmony movement - was critical of what he believes to be Clr Zhou’s attempt to “play the racism card” to defend himself.

The Liberals have not ruled out a rescission motion against the passed motion to reinstate the original motion calling for the Mayor and Deputy to stand down.

Reducing waste, Feeding the Hungry

CHRISTIAN Community Aid (CCA), with the support of the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment launched the ‘Preserve a Serve’ project last August to reduce the amount of unnecessary food wastage and eliminate hunger in our community.

Each year Sydney generates 300,000 tonnes of food waste, not only generating greenhouse gasses, but the methane from food waste, rotting in landfills is 25-times stronger than carbon dioxide.

Meanwhile, approximately 4 million Australians are going without food.

The ‘Preserve a Serve’ project, has a firm conviction that in Australia “No family should ever go hungry and no food should ever go to waste”.

gages local businesses in a partnership giving them an outlet to pass on their food wastage while supporting disadvantaged people with food that is suitable for human consumption.

CCA helps 140 local families each month who are experiencing food insecurity due to poverty or short-term crisis.

‘Preserve a Serve’ partners with local businesses not only to reduce their waste but to provide food for people who are in need in their community.

CCA, in the Preserve a Serve project so far has established partnerships with the following local businesses:85 Degrees Cafe; Dae Jang Kum; Eastwood Mart; Happigo Supermarket; La Vigne Bakery; SMart; Tonyon Supermarket; Superfresh and Lim’s Hot Bread.

Commission planning report to be reviewed by council CITY of Parramatta CEO Brett Newman will review the Greater Sydney Commission’s strategic approach to planning for the Greater Parramatta to Olympic Peninsula corridor.

The Place-based Infrastructure Compact Pilot report considers when development should happen for all 26 precincts within the corridor through a draft sequencing plan, in line with the delivery of infrastructure and the growing number of people living, working and studying in the area.

“It’s important that Council now takes the time to review the report in full,” Mr Newman said.

“We will carefully examine the recommendations and consider any implications they may have, particularly in relation to the Camellia precinct, before we prepare a submission for the Greater Sydney Commission.”

Mr Newman said the Council supports the report’s objective.

“We support the Commission’s focus on addressing the challenges of growth in this corridor.” “ In particular, we welcome the strategic approach to coordinated regional infrastructure and managing population and jobs growth in the Greater Parramatta to Olympic Peninsula corridor.

He said the City of Parramatta has done “a lot of work” on how to best accommodate growth across the local government area.

This includes work on the draft Parramatta CBD Planning Proposal, which will give the CBD the capacity to expand and support the jobs needed to fulfil its role as Sydney’s Central City.

Work has also been done on the draft Community Infrastructure Strategy which Mr Newman described as a vision for the provision of local infrastructure including open space, libraries, community facilities and affordable rental housing.

“It takes many levels of government, business, industry and the community to build a great city,” he said.

“It’s critical that any development is matched with orderly, well-planned infrastructure.

“This blueprint will help create greater certainty for investors, landowners, business and the community about the future of this corridor.”

This report follows the State Government’s recent announcement of a new approach to the development of precincts, giving councils more responsibility for planning some of Sydney’s fastestgrowing suburbs.

NEWS, City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Bob Dwyer has welcomed the release of the University of Sydney and Western Sydney University’s vision for Greater Parramatta and the Olympic Peninsula (GPOP).

The report card, released today, notes the region has developed beyond expectations in recent years and presents one of the biggest growth opportunities in Australia.

The City’s population is expected to double over the next 20 years, and by 2036, Western Sydney will be home to more than three million people.

Lord Mayor Dwyer said that while there is much to be proud of, he agrees there is more to do to ensure the City of Parramat-

ta fulfils its role as Greater Sydney’s central hub of services, infrastructure and jobs.

“With the region experiencing unprecedented growth, now is not the time to lift the foot off the investment pedal,” he said.

“Council stands ready to work closely with government, business, institutions and the community to realise the full potential of Sydney’s Central City.”

The Lord Mayor welcomed the report’s call for better collaboration between all three levels of government and industry, and sustained investment in the region.

He said a key priority of Council is the delivery of an integrated transport network.

Congratulations! Pedestrians to have traffic lights at last!

THE WEEKLY TIMES and Eastwood Chamber of Commerce campaign for traffic lights at three black spots on roads around Eastwood Plaza has resulted in a big win for the local community.

City of Ryde Mayor Jerome Laxale said on Friday the council will submit new Traffic Signal Control designs to the Roads and Maritime Services for The Avenue and two sites on West Parade.

The news was welcomed by Eastwood Chamber of Commerce President Vic Tagg who said he appreciated action by the City of Ryde after lobbying the Council for more than a decade.

“We cannot afford to wait until there is a fatality,” he said.

“You can see for yourself the number of motorists getting frustrated with traffic banked up all the way from The Avenue pedestrian crossing to the Marist College as well as the extensive delays on West Parade.

“Both these crossings are significantly worse during school zone times when mums and dads pick up their children.

“Not only that, shoppers are not coming to Eastwood because of traffic delays and this hurts business.”

He acknowledged The Weekly Times campaign and blamed previous council regimes for not acting sooner.

Mayor Laxale acknowledged Mr Tagg’s concern.

“The Eastwood community has waited nearly a decade for these pedestrian traffic lights, but to date the RMS has not agreed with Council to have the lights installed,” Clr Laxale said.

“The Eastwood Traffic and Parking Study, based on logical and evidence-based traffic and parking solutions, confirmed what locals already knew, that pedestrian traffic lights will assist in improving traffic operation across the Eastwood Town Centre.

“Subject to the findings of the Road Safety Assessment, Council will submit the designs for the pedestrian traffic lights with the RMS for their approval.

“I hope the RMS will agree with the experts to install this vital piece of traffic infrastructure and help us reduce the traffic con-

gestion in Eastwood.”

Former City of Ryde Clr Justin Li and Ryde MP Victor Dominello have previously backed calls from this newspaper to have the lights installed.

In October the independent Sydney North Planning Panel approved Council’s development application for a new shopper car park on Rowe Street East.

The new multi-storey shopper car park will be located at 53-71 Rowe Street and will be able to accommodate some 150 cars.

“A concept plan is being developed to relocate the existing Glen Street shopper car park on the western side of Eastwood to the Shaftsbury Road precinct and increasing the number of spaces from 450 to approximately 600 spaces,” Mayor Laxale said.

The Glen Street shoppers car park would remain in operation while the new Shaftsbury Road precinct car park is being built as part of the concept plan.

BENNELONG MP John Alexander OAM will complete his 100km walk across the electorate at Eastwood Oval this Friday.

The walk is raising money for the Rare Voices Australia charity and Mr Alexander will continue to accept cash donations until 3pm on Friday when the walk ends.

“This is understandable, but when considered collectively, rare diseases affect more people in Australia than even diabetes.

“So we need to improve how these people and their families are supported in society.”

Heritage protection supporters have their day in council

A RECENT edition of The Weekly Times presented the views of residents who oppose the City of Ryde’s proposed heritage listing policy and who spoke at a council meeting.

They claimed the policy prevents them from buying and selling heritage listed homes as a lucrative investment and redevelopment option and that the Council should not have powers over private property.

Supports of the proposed policy say it aims to protect historic homes, streets and neighbourhood from demolition and inappropriate development but does not stop heritage sensitive restoration work.

They put their case during last Tuesday night’s council meeting and here is what they said: “I have lived here for 42 years and I am dismayed that people are demolishing our local homes, purely for profit. They are actively being supported by property developers and real estate agents.” - Paul Margereson.

“This has got to be about the legacy you want to leave behind in this beautiful place called Denistone.

And if you knock down

these homes they will not come back. The legacy is yours, the choice is yours.”

of Parramatta where both councils have a higher rate of protection.

“Twenty five per cent of heritage homes in the City of Ryde, listed for protection in 2010, have already been demolished and even now Denistone’s beautiful historic homes are being torn down.” - Tom Tsihilis.

“We applaud the protection of heritage areas, especially the Darvall Estate and the Chatham Estate.

We love these heritage areas where heritage homes are clearly valued by people who live in our area. We are custodians. We have a duty to preserve heritage.

Pro-heritage policy supporters strongly reject social media allegations that they do not want British style heritage homes to be demolished, because these homes symbolise a less multicultural past.

DEVELOPER benefits to councils has been a hot topic of debate in Hunters Hill and the City of Ryde this month.

While developer offers of community benefits – known as Voluntary Planning Agreements - are legal and widespread, the two council debates have raised ethical questions about whether or not these benefits create a public perception that councils could be compromised by them.

In Ryde, the Eastwood Plaza development was approved by an independent planning panel because it met a state government criteria but the Yu Hu Group developer had nonetheless offered a Voluntary Planning Agreement to the council.

development – like the proposed RMS development – would not attract public speculation about favourable work practices in exchange for a community contribution.

“Laws are laws,” he said.

Councillor Lane has also been critical of what he describes as City of Ryde Mayor Jerome Laxale’s “addictive reliance” on VPA cash to fund “pet Labor projects” which include The New Heart Of Ryde civic centre development.

“This mayor is out there, every day, there selling the benefits of these projects and beating his chest saying what a good guy am I,” he said.

Councillor Collins looks at pet project funding differently and is particularly known for his enthusiastic pursuit of government grants for community projects.

“We all have pet projects and it is nice to get things achieved,” he said.

“If a council gets money for a new, beautiful playground or a safer street then I see that as a great outcome for the community.

“And if there is an opportunity to get it paid for by someone else, as we have an opportunity with the overpass sign, then I think we should jump on it.”

Ryde Independent Roy Maggio recently made this point during a debate about the proposed Meriton development in Macquarie Park.

His argument is that this development – while not popular with councillors and residents – would nonetheless meet government approval criteria and a failure to negotiate a VPA would deprive young soccer players of tens of millions of dollars

in developer contributions that could significantly upgrade nearby Christie Park.

There is also the question about a greater public good.

Potential Influence In the City of Canada Bay, developer contributions from Rhodes have ensured that ratepayers have a city where streets like Major’s Bay Road in Concord West are safe, attractive and the envy of neighbouring councils.

But try telling that to those long term residents in Rhodes who look back with nostalgia to the days when their neighbourhood was a quite provincial waterfront suburb.

Another argument against the VPA system is that councils and communities have representatives on planning panels and it could be perceived by the public that VPAs have a potential to influence their attitudes.

Ryde’s Planning Panel has two councillors on it, including Clr Edwina Clifton who recently left The Greens to join Mayor Laxale’s Labor Party group on the council.

It was Clr Clifton who questioned staff during last week’s council meeting about the legitimacy of the Eastwood VPA and was told by staff that regardless of a VPA - a panel would defer, reject or approve based on a government approved criteria.

Councillor Collins said it is his experience of Hunters Hill’s planning panel is that it scrupulously makes decisions based on this criteria.

“The people who chair planning panels are experts on planning and experts in planning law.”

Charges laid after woman is killed in Eastwood crash

A MAN has been charged over a multi-vehicle crash in Eastwood in which mother-of-three Joanne Duke died last week.

The 28-year-old man was this week charged with Dangerous Driving Occasioning Death, Dangerous Driving Occasioning Grievous Bodily Harm, Cause Bodily Harm By Misconduct, Negligent Driving Occasioning Death and Negligent Driving Occasioning Grievous Bodily Harm.

It is alleged he was behind the wheel of the Toyota Hilux that crossed the road and crashed into Duke’s Mazda on Blaxland Road near Doomben Avenue around 5pm on Wednesday.

A 28-year-old male passenger in the Hilux

was also taken to Royal North Shore Hospital suffering multiple injuries including a suspected pelvic fracture, lacerations, lumbar fractures and lung contusions.

He underwent surgery for his injuries.

year old Ryde man stole the car in Surrey Hills on Sunday, November 10 and later stole items from a store in Quarry Road, Ryde.

An employee contacted police and gave them the car registration details and when police caught the man he acted aggressively and attempted to resist arrest.

He was charged with Take And Drive Conveyance Without Consent Of Owner, Shoplifting, Never Licensed Person Drive Vehicle On Road, Resist Arrest and Park Vehicle Designated Disability Parking Space.

He was refused bail.

World 800m title for mighty Madison

REIGNING TWT Club Six/Ryde Sports Foundation Sports Star of the Year Madison de Rozario is celebrating another world title in wheelchair racing.

The decorated Paralympian, who is based at Ryde with her legendary coach Louise Sauvage, claimed gold in the 800m (T53) final at the World Para Athletics Championships in Dubai last week.

She also collected silver medals in both the Womens 5000m and 1500m finals to cap a memorable international campaign.

De Rozario saved her best for the 800m final

– revealing that she was inspired after a pep talk from her coach Sauvage in the lead up to the race.

“The 800m is a tricky one as you don’t have a lot of time and you sometimes second-guess your decisions,” de Rozario said.

“I saw a gap which was a little earlier in the kick than I would normally do... but I committed and finished strong.”

She took the lead at the bell and held off Switzerland’s took Catherine Debrunner and China’s Zhou Hongzhuan to win in one minute 52.15 seconds.

De Rozario was a joint winner of the 2018-19 TWT Club Six/Ryde Sports Foundation Sports Star of the Year Award with World Masters squash champion Geoff Davenport of Boronia Park.

KARATE prospect Alexander Francisco and gymnast Amelia Warren are the Bill Canavan Trophy Gladesville RSL Youth Club Members of the Year for 2019.

Alexander and Amelia received their prestigious awards from Ryde Sports Foundation chairman Jim Hull at Gladesville RSL Youth Club’s Presentation Day last Sunday in the Gladesville RSL Community Club auditorium.

Another ton for Tigers match-winner Mosca CAPITALISING on opportunities is a must for any ambitious athlete hoping to nail down a spot in the top grade.

Sydney Cricket Club’s talented opening batsman Justin Mosca has made the most of his chances this season in the NSW Premier Cricket first grade competition - peeling off magnificent tons in the space of three weeks to justify his promotion.

Justin consolidated his position at the top of the Tigers’ batting order last Saturday with an unbeaten 119 in Sydney’s six wicket triumph over UTSNorth Sydney in a limited overs fixture at North Sydney Oval.

Mosca’s superb knock - off just 116 balls - featured 17 boundaries and paved the way for a resounding victory.

It was the young opener’s third ton in the top grade and followed his dashing 124 against Eastern Suburbs last month in a third round fixture at Drummoyne Oval.

Mosca figured in an unbroken fifth wicket stand of 71 with Suffan Hassan, who scored 33 not out off 35 balls with two sixes and three boundaries after the Tigers lost the wickets of Felsch (11), Matthew Rodgers (15), Middlesex import Nick Gubbins (8) and keeper Beau McClintock (10).

Earlier in the day, UTS North Sydney were rolled for 215 with Ben Bryant (59 runs off 70 balls) and Jack James (58 off 71 balls) posting half centuries and Robert Aitken an unbeaten 26.

RYDE-Hunters Hill Hockey internationals Tim Brand,Tom Craig and Lachlan Sharp (pictured) continue to taste success in the representative arena.

The talented Panthers trio - who have won plenty of silverware with the world number one Australian Kookaburras - played key roles as NSW Pride clinched the inaugural Hockey One Mens Championship last Saturday night at the State Netball & Hockey Centre in Melbourne.

Spearheaded by a hat trick of goals by sharp shooter Brand, the Pride trounced Brisbane Blaze 8-3 in the final to lift the prestigious trophy.

The win caps off a remarkable season for the Pride, who went through the competition undefeated to claim the NSW team’s first national men’s hockey title since 2005.

Along the way the all conquering Pride defeated Adelaide Fire 2-1; Canberra Chill 7-0; Tasmania Tigers 4-2; HC Melbourne 6-1; Perth Thundersticks 8-1; Brisbane Blaze 5-0; HC Melbourne 6-2 in a semi final and the Blaze in the final to preserve their unbeaten status.

But the lead lasted barely two minutes as Brand found himself unmarked in the attacking circle and produced a quality finish giving Nicholson no chance. The striker then stepped age category.

The INAS Global Games is a quadrennial global international multi sport event organised by the International Sports Federation for Persons with Intellectual Disability.

Australia was pitted against the best athletes from Italy, United States, Korea and Portugal with an intellectual disability and collected a total of 26 Rowing medals over the course of the Games.

A determined Will, who trains five days a week at Drummoyne Rowing Club under the expert guidance of coach Kathleen Hextell, teamed with Queensland ace Mac Russell to claim gold in the 2 x 500 dou-

A yellow card to Lachlan Sharp left NSW pride a player short and with seconds left in the third quarter Corey Weyer had a golden chance for the Blaze but Ash Thomas produced a sharp reflex save from close range to maintain the two goal margin.

Early in the last quarter the Pride made Weyer and the Blaze pay when the ball found its way to Jack Hayes who clinically beat Nicholson.

The Pride midfielder converted the bonus one on one opporbles and joined forces with Balmain Rowing Club’s world record holder Ruby Sutherland (Womens 500m PR3 V1) to win the Mixed 2 x 500m Doubles event.

While bagging five gold medals was an outstanding feat, Will’s proudest moment however was picking up a bronze medal in the Mixed 4 x 500m Time Trial.

For this indoor rowing event, countries enter a team of two girls and two boys who test their collective times on a rowing machine over the 500m distance.

“They are a bunch of talented guys. I think what it showed is what happens when they pull together as a team and know what it takes to work for each other rather than a bunch of individuals,” said Livermore.

Will’s immediate goal is to develop into an international class rower and has set his sights on representing Australia at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

Tigers Welcome Latrell Mitchell By the one eyed Tiger

Tigers fans are ready to welcome Latrell Mitchell to Tigerland if and when he puts pen to paper and join the 2020 NRL premiership winning Tigers side.

Obviously Latrell would love to be in a second NRL Premiership winning side and especially wearing Black-nGold, as pictured right.

And wouldn’t the Tigers fans love to see a Tigers Latrell up against a former Tigers favourite and now defector Teddy in a Grand Final play off.

Latrell has expressed his desire to play fullback and you can imagine the fascination and interest when they first face up against each other.

That will surely be a full house sell-out!

Unfortunately we have to wait until Friday July 17 in Round 18 for that one and only 2020 classic encounter with the Bondi Chicks at Parra swampland.

Meanwhile we once again only have three home games at Australia’s best footy ground at Leichhardt Oval HQ kicking off in Round 2 Sunday March 22 hosting the Newcastle Frights following the opening round at the Gong Sunday March 15 when we smash the Sinners.
