Sessions From The Shop

60 Seconds

This weeks session from the Dingle Record Shop comes from Cavan based balladeers Whiskey You’re The Divil. The 5 piece dropped in to Mazz on Green Street during the Féile na Soilse parade for a chat and a few tunes. The timing of the session meant the Dingle Fife and Drum band are fleetingly included as passed the door with the parade The recording can be heard at www.sessionsfromtheshop.com

Dingle Film Club Open to Everyone 8.45pm Tuesday Nights

The feature at the Dingle Film Club on Tuesday 23rd February will be the biographical comedy-drama, “The Big Short”. Starring Christian Bale, Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, and Brad Pitt, the film is set amid the housing and credit bubble of the 2000s where four denizens in the world of high-finance predict the collapse and decide to take on the big banks for their greed and lack of foresight. Nominated for 5 Oscars, the film approaches a serious, complicated subject with an impressive attention to detail -- and manages to deliver a well-acted, scathingly funny indictment of its real-life villains in the bargain. The following week on Tuesday 1st March the featured film will be Lenny Abrahamson’s much vaunted adaptation of Emma Donoghues Booker Shortlisted novel “Room”. Among the Nominees for Best Film at this year’s Oscars “Room” is a unique and touching exploration of the boundless love between a mother and her child. After 5-year-old Jack and his Mother escape from the enclosed surroundings that Jack has known his entire life, the boy makes a thrilling discovery: the outside world. As he experiences all the joy, excitement, and fear that this new adventure brings, he holds tight to the one thing that matters most of all--his special bond with his loving and devoted Mother. 4 West Kerry Live

Richie Williams Neighbourhood Watch-- A Public Meeting will be held in Benners Hotel on Tuesday February 23rd at 8.p.m. to discuss the possibility of forming a Neighbourhood Watch/ Business Watch Scheme in Dingle Town and its environs. The meeting will be addressed by members of An Garda Siochana and other speakers and is sponsored by the local Business Chamber. Neighbourhood Watch is a crime prevention and community programme for urban areas, It works on the basis that every member of a community can help to improve the quality of life in the area by keeping a look out for neighbours and reporting suspicious activities to the Gardai. Even though we have been lucky that very little crime has taken place in the Peninsula of recent times the formation of an active Neighbourhood Watch Group should help prevent or deter criminals from targeting our area. Pobal Ar Aire--Cuir Cosc Ar Coir-- Bigi Linn. A big Thank You to the organisers of the recent Feile na Stoirme and also the Walking Festival for two very successful ,enjoyable and interesting weekends . Certainly future success is guaranteed if we can promote and expand such festivals as they are based on the natural amenities that are on our doorsteps here in Corca Dhuibhne. The appetite for such activities was very apparent from those who attended and the spin off was seen across the board by local business outlets.

Glad to hear that some of the prized possessions of Tomas Aghas have been preserved and now returned to Dingle Library. Just in time for Dingles 1916/2016 Commemoration Programme details of which will be featured in our next issue. As an added incentive Supervalu are sponsoring prizes for the St Patricks Day Parade this year the theme of which is --Ireland 1916/2016. Friday March 4th is another date for the diary as Danno will host a Buffet to raise funds for the St Patricks Weekend 2016 Commemoration Festival in Dingle. Tickets at €10 per person are now available from Tig Ui Fhlaithearta, Dannos or Sheehys Spar. Pobal Scoil students are holding a 2016 commemoration of their own from May 2nd to 6th and would appreciate any 1916 Memorabilia on loan for display in the school that week. The Tidy Towns are planning a big LITTER CLEAN UP DAY on Good Friday following the success of a similar event in 2015. Their weekly work evenings will commence once the time changes so watch this space for further details. Ná dean dearuid ar do vota a úsáid pé slí atá beartaithe agat mar caoinigh ní raibh an rabhadh sin ag muintir na háite céad blian ó shin. Slán Tamall..

Scoil Ceol an Earraigh and Feile Peile Paidi Ó Sé will ensure another busy weekend ahead with a host of outdoor and indoor activities planned right across the towns and villages in West Kerry.

Mid Season Review - Dingle Bay Rovers

TRY OUR WILD ATLANTIC PLATTER

The Long Wait Is Over!! We are reopening on Saturday 5th March Book now for Mothers Day, Sunday 6th March The ideal location for special family occasions, Confirmations, Communions etc. Strand Street, Dingle (066) 915 0920 www.theboatyardrestaurant.ie www.facebook.com/theboatyardrestaurant

We started off our league campaign with an away game against our neighbours Camp united and managed to come away with a 2-1 win, Luke Burgess getting two very good first half goals, and this turned out to be a big boost as we then went on a run of good results in the league, beating Castleisland afc, St Brendans Park, Mastergeeha, Listowel Celtic and Camp United (at home) leaving us on top of the table at Christmas with 6 wins from 6. Donnacha Higgins and Mark Sullivan, along with Jason Hickson, Paul Devane and Cathal Sheehy have provided us with a steady and consistent back 4 this season and it has helped steady the whole team. After Christmas, despite being knocked out of our third and final cup, losing 5-3 to a good Killarney Celtic side, we managed to keep our momentum going in the league, beating Castleisland 2-0 and then Listowel 3-0 with the defence again standing strong, along with Colm Muircheartaigh (who, with Donnacha Higgins deserve a special mention as they are commuting from Dublin to play all games) and James Coffee in midfield, and Luke Burgess, Joe Sheehy, Sean Micheal o Conchubhair and Sean Fitzgerald in attack. The last league game we played ended in a 2-2 draw with Fenit Samphires, with them scoring an equaliser in the 92nd minute. We are now half way through the season, played 9 out of a total of 18, and are sitting pretty on top of the league. Will the wheels come off the wagon? Are we the Leicester city of the Kerry District League? Time will tell... Top Scorers: The race for top scorer is the closest it has been for years, Luke Burgess shot out in front in the first few weeks of the season, but Sean Fitzgerald has been outstanding of late and has just passed him out with his 2 goals versus Fenit. Joe Sheehy isn't completely out of it on 7 goals, and don’t rule out Sean Micheal O Conchubhair, even though he is only on 2 goals, he has been top scorer for DBR on many occasions, missed the start of the season, and has the ability to go on a good goalscoring run. Noel Spillane Kerry Badminton. The mens division 4 final which took place Killarney Sports & Leisure Centre Friday 5th February was an all West Kerry confrontation battle between two teenagers, Dingle’s Brian O’Connor and Annascaul’s Brendan McGovern.

The old adage of “You have to lose one, to win one” certainly bore fruit in this West Kerry battle. Last season Annascaul’s McGovern lost out in the County division 5 decider but what a fine player he has now blossomed into. His defeat of top seed and raging hot favourite, Moyvane’s Jamie Elliott in an epic 3 set quarter final encounter lifted the Annascaul youth to a new level and in the decider he was always in command over the brave O’Connor and took his first senior title in 2 hard fought sets by 21-17; 21-14. Farming News

Louis Murchan

GLAS I & II Many people are anxious to know what is required regarding their GLAS application, and when certain actions must be completed. Now is the time to be preparing to complete these tasks, as this is the quiet time sor some, pre-lambing and with no BPS/ANC application to worry about. The Department of Agriculture is to issue a detailed plan to all applicants, including scheme specifications and maps clearly indicating the location of all agreed options. This is supposedly due by the end of February. In the mean time, there is no harm in knowing what is required, so the following in a brief outline of five such options. Planting New Hedgerow The objective of this is to establish new hedgerows on farms to increase biodiversity enhance the visual landscape and help to protect water quality. Mature hedgerows give the Irish landscape its distinctive character and field pattern and provide an important wildlife habitat especially for woodland flora and fauna. Hedgerows provide a barrier and shelter for livestock, stop spread of disease and define the farm boundaries. Hedgerows planted along a watercourse(s) can protect water quality by acting as a barrier, slowing down the movement of soil and nutrients. Where the additional new hedgerow establishment action is taken on a farm boundary, the GLAS participant must ensure it is planted in such a manner that he/she has control of both sides of the new hedgerow and that he/she can maintain both sides of the new hedgerow. Note, where a fence has been erected under TAMS, the Additional New Hedgerow Action cannot be planted inside of this fence.

It is recommended that the bee habitat is positioned in a sunny location exposed to direct sunlight. You should avoid locations within 20 metres of a watercourse and/or on steep slope(s). Conservation of Chough Habitat The objective of this measure is to maintain and enhance habitat areas for Chough and increase numbers of breeding Chough in targeted areas. These Chough are members of the crow family, about the size of a jackdaw. They have an iridescent black plumage and a striking red curved beak and long pink/red legs. They are largely coastal in distribution in Ireland with the maritime influence helping to maintain short swards which are optimal for access to the prey in the soil. They feed on insects and invertebrates that live in the soil, animal dung especially where the sward is short. A short sward is optimal. The Irish Chough population makes up about 60% of a geographically distinct and isolated NW European population of approximately 1,500 pairs. A suitable sward must be produced by maintaining a tightly grazed short sward throughout the year on the areas entered for GLAS payment. Topping, rolling and cutting are not permitted between the 15th March and the 15th July. Where a parcel is cut for silage/hay, only 1 cut can be taken per year. Heather, bracken and scrub where present must be controlled but only between 1st September and 28th February annually. Maximum nitrogen (organic and non-organic) is 40 kg N per ha per annum. The use of Pesticides is not permitted. Where noxious and/or invasive weeds are present, they must be controlled ideally by mechanical means; however spot treatment using pesticides may be required in some circumstances.

• Plants must be purchased from registered producers or registered growers and all newly planted hedges in GLAS whether planted in

Low Input Permanent Pasture The purpose of this is to promote a grassland management system that through appropriate grazing levels and restriction on fertiliser and pesticide use results in a more diverse sward with an increase in flora and fauna. Permanent pastures extensively grazed and managed with low inputs sustain a greater variety of plants and wildlife. Farmers who apply for a Nitrates Derogation in any year of the GLAS contract will be ineligible for this action and there will be clawbacks of any Low Input Permanent Pasture payments made to date. Participants who select this action must have a grazing enterprise of owned livestock on the holding. To successfully complete this measure you must:

The action must be delivered on full LPIS parcel(s).The LPIS parcels selected must be marked on the map submitted and they must be fenced and stockproof from the commencement date of the GLAS contract.

The requirements are as follows: •

Plant 6 plants per metre in a double row of whitethorn and/or blackthorn and/or holly and this must be in 1 continuous length. The maximum length for which GLAS funding is available is 200 metres per holding.

• The location and length must be as agreed on application and it must be a standalone hedge and not placed against an existing hedgerow.

a grass or tillage field must be fenced off and protected from livestock, from the time the hedge is planted. The fence must be stockproof and fit for purpose.

• Grass and weeds must be controlled and plants must be managed to ensure a dense hedgerow establishes, while failed or dead plants must be replaced at the earliest possible opportunity. • Planting must take place before the 31st March 2016, for GLAS I and 31st July for GLAS II applicants. As whitethorn/hawthorn and blackthorn are potential carriers of diseases that are harmful to plants in the wider environment, it is mandatory that producers of these plants are registered and inspected by the Horticulture and Plant Health Division of DAFM to ensure their freedom of these diseases. Sand Habitat for Bees The objective of this option is to improve biodiversity in the farming landscape and replace habitats lost through changes in farming practice. Of the 101 bee species in Ireland, 80 species are solitary bees. Solitary bees look very different from bumblebees. They are much smaller and occur in a range of different shapes and colours. Irish solitary species nest in various different ways. Leafcutter solitary bees nest in hollowed out twigs or bamboo canes. Solitary bees’ are useful in the pollination of crops as well as having wider biodiversity benefits. Requirements include: Place 1 tonne of builder’s sand in a mound in the corner of the selected field. Sea sand cannot be used and a receipt for proff of purchase must be retained for inspection. The habitats cannot be placed side by side and must be individually fenced from livestock, as the location is clearly marked on the map to be provided in the coming weeks. The Habitat must be strimmed annually throughout the year to keep shading vegetation under control, while pesticides cannot be used near the habitat except for the control of noxious and/or invasive weeds. This must all be in place by the 31st March 2016, for GLAS I applicants and 31st July for those in GLAS II. 12 West Kerry Live

It must be in the plot selected and of the area/size agreed on application. The pasture must contain a minimum of four grass species (excluding Ryegrasses), for example cocksfoot, timothy, bent grasses, fescues etc and a minimum of three other non-grass plant species, for example plantain, chickweed, trefoils etc and these must be reasonably dispersed throughout the field. There must be less than 30% Ryegrass cover. Heather if present within the parcel is only permissible at very low levels. The sward must be maintained by grazing. There must be a grazing enterprise of owned livestock on the holding. Parcels can’t be topped between 15th March and the 15th July annually. Maximum nitrogen usage (organic and non-organic) is 40 kg N per ha per annum. Lime may be applied in accordance with soil analysis results if it has been traditionally spread on the parcels. Pesticides are not permitted, except for spot treatment of noxious and invasive weeds and rushes. Where present, rushes must be controlled either mechanically, by weed wiping and/or by spot spraying. While weed wiping and/or spot spraying can take place between 15th March and 15th July, topping to control rushes cannot take place between these dates. Supplementary meal feeding may take place on these parcels provided meal troughs are moved to avoid poaching. Where the parcel is a Natura parcel, the GLAS advisor should ensure that the supplementary feeding of meal does not impact on the Natura site. Traditional Orchards The idea behind this option is to Increase biodiversity and provide a habitat for wildlife on the farm, while ensuring the survival of old fruit

varieties and to enhance the visual and historical value of the landscape. Trees must be on their own roots or grafted onto vigorous rootstocks. Trees on dwarfing rootstocks are not eligible. Plant 10 fruit trees in the dormant season (October to March) before the 31st March 2016, or 31st July as above. It must be carried out at the site selected, or it will be deemed to have not been completed. The minimum area is 0.05 ha (which is approximately 23x23m2) and trees must be spaced with a radius of 7 meters apart. Trees must be supported with a suitable stake and secured with a suitable tie. Trees must be protected from livestock and the orchard fenced off. However, grazing with sheep is permitted provided that no damage is caused to the trees. If damage is being caused by rabbits/hares, measures to prevent further damage must be taken by the erection of a rabbit-proof fence. Fertiliser or lime cannot be broadcast throughout the orchard. However, well rotted farmyard manure and a small quantity of chemical fertiliser and lime may be applied (taking care not to apply directly around the base of the tree) each year if soil is poor. Failed or dead trees must be replaced during the next dormant season.

Excerpts From A Dingle Diary

The first box of the new season’s tomatoes were picked in the Ballyferriter Co-op’s glasshouses today - a week earlier than last year. The box will be presented to the local G.A.A. for some function they’re holding this weekend.

By Ted Creedon

Went to Fitzy’s sale this afternoon and bought a new bed for one of the kids - £120 - and a few household items. Last year the Dún Síon naomhóg crew won the main race at Fenit regatta. I’ve had the trophy for a few months so dropped it down to another crew member, Pádraig Quinn, in Dún Síon today.

Saturday, February 22.

Saturday, February 15, 1986. Bitterly cold east wind still blowing. Drove to Coláiste Íde to enquire about buying a tree for firewood. Spoke to Sr. Baiste but no trees for sale. Then called to Pat O’Connor at Cnocknahow who saws trees but no firewood. He said he’d try the forestry place next week. Watched boxer Barry McGuigan get pasted but he still won in the 14th round with a TKO in a World Title Fight against Danilo Cabrera in the RDS in Dublin tonight.

Sunday, February 16.

Bitterly cold again today - too cold to go anywhere so we lazed in front of the fire and TV.

Monday, February 17.

Drove to Tralee after work and chaired the A.G.M. of the Kerry Archaeological and Historical Society in the County Library. Cold weather and a teachers meeting left us short of numbers - about 30 present. We discussed setting up a monuments committee and a county museum. Former TD Kit Ahern was elected to our council. Finished agenda by 9.30. Then David Slattery of Slatterys Travel spoke about our proposed trip to Paris at Easter which will cost £398 per person. No way!

Tuesday, February 18.

The Director of the Dingle Archaeological Survey, Judith Cuppage, called to our house after work to look at the old well on Tom Sheehy’s land. Tom cleared it out last year to reveal some fine cut-stone steps leading down to crystal clear water in a corbelled-type chamber. It may be the ‘underground reservoir’ mentioned by Lewis in his Topographical work in 1837. Judith spent five years in charge of the Dingle survey and is now out of work. The survey publication will be out in June or July at £15 a copy and will feature the Kilfountain cross-slab on the cover.

Wednesday, February 19.

Met Kathleen Browne at the County Library to brief ourselves before meeting County Manager Tom Collins. Met him at noon in the Thomas Ashe Hall. Also present were Séamus Dooley, County Secretary, Lillian Carmody of the Planning Dept., Sr. Anselem and Valerie Barry. I put the case for setting up a Local Monuments Advisory Committee. To our surprise Tom Collins agreed to establish such a committee which will meet quarterly to discuss matters relating to national monuments in Kerry. After lunch I attended the first meeting in the U.D.C. offices to discuss setting up a County Museum in Tralee. I was proposed as chairman but declined as I feltit would be better to have a local person. Ted Fitzgeraldwas elected to the chair. The proposal is to set up a museum in the Tom Ashe Hall.

Monday, February 24.

No rain this month yet but still very cold and windy. The hill farmers are taking advantage of the very dry weather and are busily burning off old scrub and gorse. The fire brigade has been out several times of late.

Tuesday, February 25.

There was a stray sheep in our garden all day. Our dog, Lucky, who tried to assert his territorial rights was sent running for cover by the aggressive intruder. When I came home from work I cornered the sheep, grabbed it and ‘assisted’ it into the next field. Bought a four-stone bag of Kerrs Pinks from a neighbour for £6 tonight.. Garda Tim Collins called to the house and bought a framed copy of my poem ‘Dingle’ which will hang in the dayroom of Dingle Garda Station.

Wednesday, February 26.

Took the early train to Dublin for a hospital appointment in St. James’ clinic. Got the early afternoon train to Killarney. Met Fergus O’Flatherty and we chatted all the way down. Gave him a lift to Dingle and home by 5.45pm.

Thursday, February 27.

The bitterly cold weather continues. It is very unusual to see the shoreline frozen near Milltown Bridge. The local people say it hasn’t been seen since the winter of 1963.

Friday, February 28.

Drove to the Hillgrove Hotel after 8pm with a carload of sandwiches and cakes for the CBS primary school fund-raiser. Around 150 people turned up at £3 a head which will bring a good profit. Tom Lyne supplied the music and the dancing went on until 2.30a.m.

Save Our Coastline A public meeting, attended by numerous invited public representatives and guest speakers, was held at The Club Rooms in Castlegregory on Saturday 6th February. On the agenda was the ongoing problem of coastal erosion in Maharees caused by the wind and high tides. Having studied coastal processes in Maharees for many years, NUIG physical geographer Dr. Eugene Farrell, whose father J.J. hails from Duagh, presented a very informative lecture. His research has found that over the past one hundred and fifteen years the Maharees coastline has receded by 72m at one point. He identified a combination of increased storm surges and human activities such as overgrazing and uncontrolled access to the beaches as the main culprits in recent years and called for a comprehensive management plan to put in place. Apart from a lack of funding, the immediate installation of coastal protection measures in a Special Area of Conservation, such as Magherabeg, is apparently restricted by the need to conduct environmental impact studies. The meeting was also addressed by Dr. Enda McGovern, Associate Professor in Marketing at Sacred Heart University in Connecticut. He informed the audience that the new challenges presented by global warming will demand solutions that have not been attempted in the past. When the meeting concluded the attendance were little wiser as to what could be done. Was it in the hands of the County Council, the OPW, the National Parks and Wildlife or could local people take their own initiative? Meanwhile, the erosion of the Maharees coastline continues apace.

Meánscoil Nua an Leith Triuigh Teenage recipe for 2016: Good friends and good food, for good moods. Eat well, sleep well, exercise well were the simple messages to students in Meánscoil Nua an Leith Triuigh, Castlegregory during the early weeks of 2016. Students and staff were treated to a mix of speakers, cookery demonstrations, healthy eating habits, during their recent healthy eating week, all aimed at creating a healthier lifestyle for teenagers today. Home Economics teacher Sally Ann Leahy and Edel O’Connor, Business teacher, organised many of the events of the week, all with the focus of a healthier lifestyle. ‘The local Lynch’s Spar were very generous in providing healthy hampers as prizes’ said Ms. Leahy and ‘students would now be better equipped to make important lifestyle choices in order to achieve full potential after the week’s activities.’ Local chef Coby Zhang of Tomásins Restaurant and TV chef, Paul Treyvaud, of Treyvaud’s restaurant, Killarney, cooked up very healthy and tasty dishes with the help of students. Paul Treyvaud reminded students ‘the better the food the better the mental and physical performance, whether it’s study or sport’. Nutritional therapist Susie Cox said it ‘it’s important teenagers eat foods that help good moods, such as fruits, green vegetables and complex carbohydrates which are a mix of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.’ TY students Kayla O’ Neill and David Sheehan said ‘It was all good fun’ a point echoed by Principal Aodán MacGearailt saying ‘a good balance of food, exercise, sleep, study and some fun were important for teenagers today to achieve well’. Better mental health was also the theme of a recent talk to senior students, given by Elma Walsh, mother of the late Donal Walsh who inspired so many people, young and not so young to embrace everyday with a positive attitude whatever the circumstance. Students in the school were deeply moved hearing about Donal’s journey of faith through his terminal illness with the help of close friends and family. Castlegregory students will better embrace the future with these basic life long lessons highlighted in the school at the beginning of 2016.

Solar..panels or tubes, what's the difference? Well they both provide hot water when heated by the sun’s energy, thus saving you energy, be it oil, gas or electricity.

A solar system will save up to 70% of your annual hot water bill. When it comes to tubes versus panels, the tubes are marginally more efficient than panels, but realistically the difference is small, especially when we have had such a great spell of sunshine.

Mairimid fós, a bhuí le Dia d’ainneoin na doininne. Táim ag guí go bhfaighimis seachtain as a chéile breá tirim i dtreo go bhféadfaimis ár nGairdín Urnaí a fháil réidh dá bheannú agus dá oscailt. Is é is ciallmhaire anois ná go ndéanfainn féin an chuid sin den bhFéile. Beidh fógraí i mBéarla agus i nGaeilge in airde ar na stuanna isteach ó Ghairdín Chlochar na Toirbhirte. Is é an roilleán (maze) croí an ghairdín seo. Bhí a leithéid á chleachtadh ag a lán pobal sna cian-aoiseanna. I gContae Cheatharlach a nochtadh an ceann is ársa in Éirinn. Sa ghairdín seo ciallaíonn sé go dtagann daoine anseo agus iad ag lorg réiteach ar fhadhbanna agus suaimhneas ó imní. Sa mhéid go dtugann siad leo ina lámh púróg bheag cloiche agus go leagann siad uathu í i mbabhla eile, tá gaol aige leis an nós ag tobar beannaithe an oiread púróg bheag a bhailiú roimh tosnú ar an dturas agus a bhfuil de thimpill an tobair le déanamh agat agus ceann a chaitheamh ’on dtobar tar éis gach timpill. Tá stáisiúin na croise anseo leis le cabhrú leis an machnamh agus binsí gleoite le suí iontu ar feadh seal. Nuair a bhíonn do thuras déanta agat fágann tú do chloichín sa bhabhla eile; nuair a bheidh sin lán fágfar na púróga ag bun na gcrann iúir agus beidh síad ina gcuimhne ar an imní agus ar a réiteach. Siúlfaidh an banna go ciúin amach i nGairdín na Toirbhirte agus ansin go glórach aerach chun na cóisreach. Beidh sin i Halla Phádraig. Beidh an líne ama á sheoladh sa Seomra Frescó faoin am sin. Nuair a bheidh sin déanta beidh boird le leabhair á leagan amach ansiúd agus an seomra le réiteach d’Oscailt Léachtaí Cholm Cille agus do sheoladh Léachtaí na bliana seo caite. Beidh cead ag cách féachaint ar iontaisí ealaíne an Dísirt ar feadh tamaill bhig ach gan cur isteach ar na daoine a bheidh ag teacht chun éisteacht le Coirm Cheoil Larry Beau sa Séipéal a bheidh ag tosnú ar 6pm. Beidh suaimhneas le cúnamh Dé nuair a thagann John Carey, ollamh le Sean-Ghaelainn in Ollscoil Chorcaí lena léacht a thabhairt 7. 30 i seomra an Frescó: The termini naturae from Augustinus Hibernicus to Pope Francis. Killorglin 1916 Commemorations The Killorglin 1916 Centenary Committee has released its highly anticipated programme of events for the Easter Rising Commemoration weekend 2016. The purpose of the Killorglin 1916 Centenary Committee is to hold a major series of events to commemorate the centenary of the Ballykissane Tragedy of Good Friday 1916. Announcing Killorglin 1916 Centenary Committee’s events, P.R.O, Josie O’Donnell said: “1916 is a year of huge emotional and political significance in Killorglin’s history as much as in Irish history. The first casualties of the Rising happened in Killorglin, and in our approach to covering and commemorating the centenary of 1916, Killorglin 1916 Centenary Committee is embracing all of its complexity by planning a range of diverse events - where audiences can understand, debate, commemorate, and celebrate’. Killorglin Historian Tom Doyle will launch his book ‘The Ballykissane Tragedy – Good Friday 1916’ on Thursday 24th March in St. Michael’s Church Hall, Iveragh Rd., Killorglin. A Wall of Remembrance will be unveiled on the New Line Road on Good Friday, March 25th. The Killorglin 1916 Centenary Committee has commissioned renowned Valentia Island sculptor Alan Ryan Hall to design a memorial wall; consisting of deep-relief bronze pieces that commemorate the first casualties

of the 1916 Easter Rising, who drowned after their car plunged off Ballykissane Pier into the River Laune near Killorglin. A 1916 Grand Concert will be held on Good Friday night in Killorglin’s KCYMS Hall. This special once-off ticketed event will be rich in drama, song and poetry performed by local actors and musicians in an exciting two-hour production. A symposium (lectures by respected national historians and researchers, followed by discussion) covering the period 1912 – 1923 will take place on the morning of Saturday 26th March in Killorglin KCYMS Hall. Over the weekend an exhibition of photographic and archival material will also be on display at the Chapel on the Hill, Market St., Killorglin. There also will be a walking trail covering relevant sites of interest. O’Donnell continues ‘Our programme will include the many planned events that will commemorate and celebrate the 1916 Rising. The programme will embrace music and the arts, as well as lectures and walks. The scale and range of our programme is suitably wide-ranging and ambitious. The Wall of Remembrance will stand as a constant reminder of the events of Ballykissane 1916 for the decades and generations ahead of us. I believe that, in this special commemorative year, this is Killorglin’s role and responsibility. We hope our audiences will join us for a unique series of programmes and events that chart, explain,

Camphill News Betsie Konink It has been a time since I last wrote for the West Kerry Live but Christoph has kept you well informed during my travels…I had a great time walking the Camino and spending time with family and friends and now I am happy to be back in Dingle and take on my tasks again. January and the beginning of February was the time of birthdays: in 4 weeks’ time we had 11 birthdays; at least 2 parties a week. Apart from that we had the storms and floods of rain and had to put in a lot more drainage around the new workshop and house. Also part of the big tunnel blew away. Very disheartening as this is already the 4th time that it happened and we are looking into ways to protect the tunnels more. If anybody has some good ideas how to go about this please let us know. Here in Doonsheane lots is happening as the new house is nearing completion and we are getting ready for the big move in the coming weeks. If any of you have spare wardrobes or chests of drawers we would be all too happy to come and collect them….we will not be able to afford to buy new furniture straight away as there are so many extra costs for which we will still have to fundraise… the rules and regulations are changing all the time. For example 2 years ago when we started with making wheelchair accessible foot paths in the garden they had to be 4 foot wide, now they have to be 5 foot wide which will add to the costs and so it goes on. We are busy making mosaics for the foot paths so that we will not be surrounded by a sea of grey concrete but have some colour added and some nice pictures. We also had the first visit of HIQA; we are still waiting for the official report but have already started working on some of the recommendations. On the whole it was a good visit and we will be well able to comply with all the requirements. HIQA will have to come back to register the new house before we can move in. With the houses in town there have also been many delays, and so far we do not have a date when we can move in. Hopefully it will not be long. We are looking forward to lighter and brighter days so that we can work in the garden and on the foot paths. 24 West Kerry Live

critique and celebrate a ground-breaking decade that has shaped our history since then.” More information will be released in the coming weeks detailing each of the events. The Killorglin 1916 Centenary Committee is made up principally of members of Killorglin Archive Society, Killorglin History and Folklore Society and Killorglin Community Council whose headquarters are located in the Sean Scoil, Killorglin (all are voluntary, non-profit, community-based groupings) with support from other community groups and educational establishments. We acknowledge the generous support of the Local County Councilors and the Kerry County Council Strategic Policy Committee.

Leicester City: Saviours Of Soccer

Senator Marie Moloney

Tadhg Evans Even allowing for the downturn that we’ve been expecting for months now, Leicester City’s 2015/16 Premier League campaign has the potential to be remembered as the most important in English football’s storied history. Granted, most agree that this season could well be the poorest we’ve seen in terms of quality during the Premier League era, but that simply doesn’t matter – its legacy could well be celebrated more fervently than the rest. Danny Wellbeck’s 96th minute strike plucked a priceless victory for Arsenal in a game that Leicester could well have won, and might also have punctured the expanding hopes for the overachieving league leaders. But deflating and all as that is, Leicester have already achieved something that needed achieving; they’re genuine title contenders when they should be crippled by their many limitations. Whether they go on to win the league or not is probably unimportant, even if most would take delight in them doing just that. For all the style and allure of football’s most lucrative league, the stocks of adoration for the beautiful game have arguably been declining annually across the pond. It’s exceptionally hard to verify that statement given that attendance figures continue to impress, but many would probably agree that, in spite of their loyalty, fans have never felt more disconnected from their sport and their clubs. The Leicester story is special simply because it showcases all of the laudable attributes that football depends on far more than mere cash. Youngsters growing up on a diet of Premier League football must have looked through the record books and found it bizarre that clubs like Aston Villa, Blackburn Rovers, Everton, Derby County and Nottingham Forrest would regularly break Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United’s clasp on the old first division. That flickering blaze of uncertainty that warmed fans has since dimmed with each silk-stocked, successful, yet ultimately soulless Premier League season. Cinders remained, and not a whole lot else. Supporters continue to tell themselves that ‘this could be our year’ at the start of every season, but those statements now just seem deluded where before they might well have been genuine. That’s why a story like Leicester’s needed to happen.

While Man City’s starting eleven two Saturdays ago was valued at over £220 million, Leicester, the antithesis of everything City currently represent, sent out a collective priced at one tenth of that sum. Yet it was the Foxes, and not Man City, who went into their 25th league game as leaders – and exited once again to the familiar vista of doting disbelief. They don’t do logic – in fact, they seem to detest the concept. Five points off safety at this juncture last season, they now smile down at England’s finest, richest clubs, even after defeat away to Arsenal. Good possession and pass-completion statistics are normally obtained by the league’s best sides, yet Leicester have been genuinely appalling on both counts this season. Their pass success rate is the poorest in the league, and only Sunderland and West Brom attain possession less frequently. But that only warms an already uplifting storyline. Their success has not been the product of ludicrous funding, nor intricate scheming -- they’re essentially a clan who sit back and soak up before striking stealthily. Mahrez and Vardy’s worth to their campaign has been inestimable, but they weren’t drawn to the English midlands by sensational sums of cash. The acquisition of Mahrez was secured with loose change, and 29-year-old Vardy was bought from lowly Fleetwood Town in 2012. As Liverpool fans deserted Anfield two weeks ago in protest at fattened ticket prices, Leicester’s extraordinary win over City seemed especially precious. Two weeks ago, they were made favourites to win the league, touted to disdainfully discredit pre-season title odds of 5,000-1. They’ve since relinquished that tag, but have already accomplished something incredibly valuable on behalf of the world’s most loved sport. Football fans can, once again, believe that a project as organic as Leicester’s can thrive in an environment saturated by startling wealth. 34 West Kerry Live www.westkerrylive.ie

Why Early Referral Is Important Eddie O’ Grady You have been getting treatment for back pain twice a week for the past four weeks. Each time you lie there for the first fifteen minutes with a hot pack while somebody else is being treated at the same time. The therapist pops in, has a brief chat, does a quick manipulation, reassures you of your improvement, then books you in for your next appointment. You leave wondering if you are really getting any better, but console yourself with the fact that the practitioner told you that you are. Recently a client told me a story of where they endured a situation like the above for six months. Finally they decided to go to a doctor, who referred them for an MRI. The results showed a stress fracture to one of the lumbar vertebrae of the spine. In this case the treatments had been exacerbating the condition, and what was needed was rest and immobilisation. Also manipulations, generally speaking, need to be done only once. They are used mainly to open a locked joint. A decent amount of soft tissue and myofascial work should be done beforehand to open up and relax the area. Otherwise the joint may revert to its locked position again shortly after it has been manipulated. Also as a general rule there should be a noticeable improvement in a clients condition from treatment to treatment. To illustrate the importance of early recognition and referral, let us look at a few more sinister conditions that present as back pain, requiring referral to a doctor or specialist. Spondylitis; Ankylosing spondylitis is a condition where there is chronic inflammation of the spine and sacroiliac joints. This causes pain and stiffness in and around the spine, including the neck and back. Over time this condition can lead to a complete cementing together (fusion) of the vertebrae, a process referred to as ankylosis . Ankylosis causes loss of mobility of the spine. Spondylolysis; A common cause of low back pain in adolescent athletes. It can be seen on X-ray and is a stress fracture in one of the bones (vertebrae) that make up the spinal column. It usually affects the fifth lumbar vertebra in the lower back, and less commonly the fourth. If the stress fracture weakens the bone too much the vertebra can start to shift out of place. This condition is called spondylolisthesis. Spondylolysthesis; Spondylolisthesis is a condition whereby one of the vertebra of the spine slips forward or backward on the next vertebra. Spondylolisthesis can lead to deformity of the spine as well as a narrowing of the spinal canal (central spinal stenosis) and compression of the exiting nerve roots (foraminal stenosis). Spondylolisthesis is more common in the lower back but can also occur in thoracic and cervical spine.

cause pain down the leg. Basically what I am saying is that if your condition is not improving from treatment to treatment you may need to go back to your doctor for further investigation. Just keep it in mind. A good therapist will probably have already referred you.

Arthritis ; various types including spondylitis, reactive arthritis, osteoarthritis, juvenile onset spondyloarthritis, enteropathic arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, polymyalgia rheumatica etc. can all present as back pain. kidney stones ; can cause back pain Osteoporosis ; Osteoporosis means porous bones. It is a silent disease that usually goes undiagnosed until a bone fracture occurs. Bone is a living tissue that is constantly being turned over. Bones need normal sex hormones, calcium, vitamin D, adequate calories, proteins and weight bearing/strengthening exercise to keep them healthy. As we get older, more bone is lost than is replaced, but people with Osteoporosis lose more bone than people who do not have the disease. This causes bones to become more fragile and break or fracture more easily. Various cancers ; pancreatic, liver cancers etc. can cause back pain. Ovarian Cysts ; Ovarian cysts are fluid-filled sacs or pockets within or on the surface the female ovary. A large ovarian cyst can cause abdominal discomfort and a dull ache that radiates into the lower back and thighs. Spinal stenosis ; This is a narrowing of spaces in the spine causing pressure on the spinal cord and nerves. About 75% of cases of spinal stenosis occur in the low back. In most cases, the narrowing of the spine associated with stenosis compresses a nerve root, which can 28 West Kerry Live

I start sowing the hardy reliable varieties such as lettuce, rocket, parsley and mizuna in early February as soon as temperatures hit 10ºC. Details of the glasshouse and newspaper technique I use (under advice & tips) can be followed on my website www.gretasherbs.com. By the time March has arrived, my daily ritual of sowing and potting up increases with determined dedication. There is sacredness in it all: as the daylight extends so does my work load from morning until night.

As the winds and floods of 2015 pass behind us we must look forward to Spring 2016! The days are lengthening so it is time to raise our spirits and reach toward nature as it slowly resurrects from the dark, sodden earth. Out come the old biscuit tins full of last year’s half-emptied seed packets. I have also managed to salvage a few home-gathered varieties such as milk thistle and perilla. These days I buy online, the seed sites are extremely informative and extremely tempting! I tend to go over my seed orders several times as I get carried away. I have to curb my enthusiasm or ‘should I say avarice’ for wanting everything that catches my eye – like a child in a sweet shop! I have developed a fondness for kale and Swiss chard as unlike cabbage they are trouble free: no caterpillar attacks and no club root or other nasty afflictions. I have a new kale variety called ‘Thousand Head’ on my list this year which sounds promising! Oriental varieties also excite my palate. I can’t wait to try a few new ones such as choy sum ‘Purple Stem’ which can be used young in salads or later cooked like spinach. I will be keeping an eye out for stock plants of new herb varieties but

Last summer was a washout yet nature still provided certain rewards – the greens grew abundantly! I will not mention the failures. Despite the many trials of gardening in a dismal, coastal climate, I can never let go of the hope for a hot, dry summer which gives red shine to tomatoes on the vine, pink\ochre skies in the evening time and as the sun goes down the gathering of tools amidst the scent of sage and lavender. Good memories like those ignite my optimism! I await the first sticky bud burst from the horse chestnut tree! I can hear the rhythm of gardening in my heart - it is time to get growing. How boring life would be if it was all too predictable! Gout – a Real Pain in the…Toe! Irene Ní Fhlannúra Gout, once known as the Disease of Kings, due to its prevalence among the gluttonous, wine swilling, indulgent upper class of times past. Traditionally, having gout did not evoke much sympathy as it was associated with the affluent and was thought to be self-inflicted. The struggling peasants would have had little compassion on hearing that their king was suffering from gout and probably derived much solace knowing that this was one disease that was unlikely to befall them. For the modern day sufferer, empathy is widespread as gout now affects more and more people regardless of social standing. Described in the 5th century by Hippocrates as the “unwalkable disease” gout is the most painful of all forms of arthritis, causing intense pain and swelling in affected joints of the foot, ankle, knee, hand, elbow and wrist, but particularly in the big toe. While there is no definite cure for gout, treatment is aimed at preventing a flare up by managing the conditions that contribute to its onset. Way back in the 6th Century, a Byzantine physician, Alexander de Tralles, recognized that colchicine, derived from the Autumn crocus flower could be used as a remedy for a gout attack. Colchicine is still prescribed today to reduce pain associated with an acute flare up, while other drugs such as allopurinol are used to prevent an attack. An increased production of uric acid by the body as well as a decreased ability of the kidneys to eliminate uric acid are the main causative factors for gout. People with high blood pressure, kidney disease, diabetes are at higher risk of gout. Uric acid is a chemical created when the body breaks down substances called purines. Purines are found in some foods and drinks, such as organ meats, anchovies, mackerel, yeast, beef, beer and wine. Studies now reveal that plant foods high in purines (asparagus, mushrooms and dried beans) act differently to animal purines and do not increase risk of gout. In healthy people, uric acid dissolves in blood and travels to the kidneys, where it passes out in urine. For the gouty ones - too much uric acid is produced and not enough is eliminated. Nutritional therapy for aims to reduce the intake of high purine animal foods while helping the kidneys to flush out the tiny glass-like crystals of uric acid before they can accumulate in joints, causing inflammation, and pain. Purines are found in a wide range of foods but are most concentrated in animal proteins so a low-protein diet is a must if you want to prevent gout. A healthy person will have little problems eating protein at breakfast, lunch and dinner but someone who is prone to gout would do well to consider a more plant-based diet. A menu of plant-based foods, plenty vegetables, a little fruit, healthy fats from avocado, olives, walnuts and seeds is the way to go with diet. Go easy on grains, even wholegrains, limiting them to once or twice per day. Low purine proteins such as poultry, low fat dairy, organic eggs and tofu will provide enough protein for the body to car30 West Kerry Live

ry out its daily functions without producing too much uric acid or taxing the kidneys. Drinking plenty water is probably the best help your kidneys can get while eliminating diuretic beverages such as coffee, fizzy drinks and alcohol. Alcohol is not only high in purines but it is also dehydrating which concentrates the levels of uric acid in the body and prevents them from being flushed out efficiently. Newer research is looking at high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) a cheap sweetener used in almost all processed foods and fizzy drinks. Derived from fructose, HFSC is linked to inflammation, obesity, diabetes, Alzeimhers and many chronic illnesses – but can easily be avoided by replacing processed foods with real, natural whole foods. It is thought that fructose raises gout risk in two ways – firstly, uric acid is a by-product of the breakdown of fructose and secondly, fructose inhibits the excretion of uric acid, causing it to build up inside your body, which elevates your uric acid blood levels. Cherries and dark berries contain anthocya-

www.westkerrylive.ie

nins and bioflavonoids which reduce the level of uric acid as well as helping to control inflammation and preventing joint damage. Cayenne, bromelain, ginger, boswellia and evening primrose oil may also be useful for the management of gout. To prevent attacks, support kidney health with a low-protein/low-salt diet using ingredients such as celery, cabbage, cauliflower, onions, garlic and horsetail liberally in the diet. Don’t just wait for the next bout, be proactive as this is one illness where prevention is definitely better than the cure! Osso Buco served with Gremolata ‘An Italian Dish with Irish Beef ’ Mark Murphy - Dingle Cookery School This is one of my favourite Italian dishes. It is a hearty dish, which is packed with flavour and is easy to do; it will impress and become a regular on your kitchen table. It is one of the many dishes we have planned for you to cook and feast on at our next supper club (Rustic Italian) at Dingle Cookery School on Friday February 26th. If you love Italian food, then this class is definitely for you. Our supper clubs so far have been a great success, the concept is we pick a country or region, we take you through the food from this region, cook together as a cookery class then we all sit down together and have a feast. For more information visit www.dinglecookeryschool.com or phone 086 8723521. The dish itself Osso Bucco hails from Milan and the Lombardy region in Italy. Traditionally veal is used for this dish and since veal is not meat we cook with much here I have opted to use beef instead. The cut you are looking for at your butcher is shin. You want the butcher to cut thick slices with a piece of bone in the centre. Keeping the bone in will add an extra depth of flavour to this dish. If you want to find beautiful veal from Kerry I would suggest trying Ballyhar Veal (www.ballyhar.com). This dish usually served with a saffron risotto and gremolata. I usually serve it with a creamy potato gratin but always opt for the gremolata. Simply gremolata is an easy garnish which gives it a beautiful freshness, it is some chopped parsley, garlic and lemon zest which really adds freshness to such a wintery dish.

hot and brown the meat on each side. Place a separate pot (ideally an oven-proof pot), over a medium heat and add some oil and then the onions and some salt, allow this to sweat for about three minutes add the garlic and cook for two minutes or so, add the celery and keeping cooking in layers like this as it helps to develop more layers of flavour. Continue the same for the carrot and thyme. Mix in some tomato puree and cook it for a few minutes while stirring to remove the bitterness. You can now add the browned meat, followed by the tomatoes, white wine and the beef stock. Cover this with a lid or tin foil and place in the oven and cook it for about four hours. At this stage the meat should be falling from the bone. For the Gremolata Chop the parsley and simply add it to the crushed garlic and the lemon zest. Mix well and season. Spoon this over the braised beef. Enjoy!!

Profits from the Storm dinner €1158.00 and a great time was had by all.Thank you to Micheal Lynch for donating the lamb and to Tom Ferriter for the vegetables. Apologies for last weeks omission:it was missed in the typing. We are in the process of planning more such events. If you have any suggestions drop them into the Information office please, we do want to hear from you. Free Service- Take Advantage! As summer approaches (we hope) it would be beneficial to all organisations to have a central listing of events that are due to occur on a monthly basis. If these events were called or e-mailed into the Information Office, we would be happy to create a calender of “Whats Happening in Castlegregory” to be placed around the Parish to let the tourists (and locals I might add) know whats going on where and when. Businesses and Organizations could financially benefit by this arrangement. Besides a monthly calender we would also put these announcements on our website. The West End Hall needs some “sprucing up” on the inside. The Community Council is looking for volunteers to help us paint. If interested please contact the Information office 066 7139422 and leave you name and number and we will get back to you with dates and times.

The end of a very busy three weekends and what a finish! As part of the Storm Festival, the Community Council served dinner for 94 people. Thank you to all who came and we hope you enjoyed your meal. A total profit of €1158.00 was made and a great time was had by all. Also thank you to those who donated prizes for the raffle; Tim Smith, O’Connor’s Trekking, Junction Bar, Tralee Framing and Tomásíns. A word about the Storm Photo Exhibition: the photos were beautiful. Thanks to Tim, Bridget, Cate, Marcia and thanks to Syra for curating. Syra also put it up on the Creative Way facebook page and had 2,000 likes. Maybe next year we’ll have even more participation. This will be an on-going event! Now that the picture rails are up, if there is an artist or photographer that would like to have a show, they can contact Marcia at 0871693493 for more info. Great place for an exhibition, parking available, tea and coffee making facilities, tables and chairs for a cosy café/gallery effect. Golf Results:

Rugar. Bhí na trí gártha goil nó a leithéid le clos nuair a bhuaidh foireann rugair na Fraince ar an ndream seo againne. Ba dhóigh leat go raibh an spéir agus an talamh ar tí titim ar a chéile. Bhí Éire chun cinn in aghaidh na Breataine Bige agus siar san imirt bhí an t-ádh leo críochnú cothrom. Bhíodar chun cinn ar an bhFrainnc le ciceanna pinóis, ach ambasa nár éirigh leo fiú úd amháin a ghnóthú. Mheasfá ós na nuachtáin laethúla agus tráchtairí áirithe nárbh aon teora an dream seo againne. Ní leathanach amháin a bhí breacaithe fútha ach a cúíg nó a sé leathanach a dhuine sin. Is ar éigin a fuaireadh spás le cluichí ceathrú ceannais caide uile Éireann na gclub a lua sna nuachtáin. Bhíodar níos tógtha leis an sacar thar bóchma. Cén chiall atá le cluichí inar féidir leis an lucht saibhris imreoirí a ‘cheannach’. Tá sort ‘daoirse’ ag baint leis an gceannach sin. Conas a thabharfá gradam do aon chaitheamh aimsire spóirt gur ag an dream is teanna sparán a bheadh na himreóirí is fearr. Fastaoim. Ach cuireann airgead agus meáin mearbhall ar ghioláin a bhíonn ag féachaint ar na cluichí. Ambasa ach go ndíolfa go daor as do thicéad. Tá costas E 80 go 140 ar an ngnáth thicéad. Ná bac Meiriceá agus a gcuid ‘Super Bowls’, ina mbeadh ort seans E 4,00O seans a thabhairt ar thicéad. Agus tá na boctáin líonmhar go maith ansúd agus anso. Ní sport é sin ach sort ‘monoplacht.’

Dar fia ach go bhfuil na páirtithe poilitíóchta imithe chun an chnoic ar fad. Iad ag iarraidh vótaí a cheannach. Dar liom go bhuil cuid dá bhfuil léite againn páistiúil dainséarach. Ní ró fhada go rabhathas á rá gur cheart srian a chur ar na beartais chaiteachais. Níor cheart dar liom aon chead a bheith ag páirtithe geallúintí gan deallramh a thabhairt dhá mhí roimh toghcháin. Cead a bheith socraithe a mholadh ná raghadh thar teora costais aontaithe. Sea, geallúintí mar atá a stop sa dá mhí sin ar fad. Tá gach dream ag iarraidh an chuid eile a chur ar gcúl tré gheallúintí aithféiseacha a thabhairt. Tá daoine bailithe bréan don gcleachtas seo. Scaothaireacht. Nuair a bhíonn ceisteanna á gcúr ar aon chainteoir sna díospóireachtaí teilifíse ba cheart neomat ar a mhéid a thabhairt le ceist gearr a fhreagairt agus dhá neamat le ceist fhada a fhreagairt. Ba cheart cosc a chur ar aon duine a bheadh ag cur isteach ar chainteoir eile, trí gan cead cainte a thabhairt dó sa bhabhta ceisteanna san. Ba cheart leis cead cainte a bhaint do duine, don mbabhta sin, ná freagródh ceist ón gcathaoirleach. Tá an phoilitiocht a lot de thoradh treasnaíola, nó sa chás ná freagraíonn duine ceist ón gcathaoirleach. Tá na droch nósa seo imithe thar fóir ar fad. Aontaím gur cheart cead a thabhairt cupla focal do threasnaíol a bheith sa chlibirt agus go gclaoífeadh an cathaoirleach le nósa sibhialta deabhéasach, seachas beith ag éisteacht le glogarnach mí-rialta.Tá dualgas ar an gcathaoirleach, sea, srian agus ord a bheith ar chúrsaí rud ná deintear go minic. Dála an scéil an bhfuil aon náire ar na poilliteóírí atá ag tabhairt na ngeallúíntí áithféise nó iompar neamhghairmiúil. Is droch-shampla don saol mór na geaitsí sean-chaite seo a chuireadh cat ag aiseag. Sea, cad fé iarracht a dhéanamh ar conas mar a bheidh ag na páirtithe tréis an toghacháin?Mo thuar agus é luath fós, ná Fine Gael le 60 shuíochán [má leanann an sleamhnú sna pobal bhreitheanna seans 57] Fianna Fáil le 36 shuíochan. Sinn Féin le 35 suíochán Lucht Oibre 10 agus neamhspleáigh agus pairtithe beaga le 30+ suíochán. An bhfuil sé i gceist ag FF agus FG luí le chéile nó an iad FF agus Sinn Féin agus páirtí beag mar na Daonlathaigh Shóisialta a fhéadfadh a bheith againn? Tá móran daoine cloiste agam ag gearán nár cheart do FF a bheith ag tramaíocht ar SF mar gur iad FG a thóg na vótaí uatha

agus siad SF is gaire i ngaol le FF. Is ó Pháirtí an Lucht Oibre a thógann SF furmhór a vótaí. An rud a fhéadfadh tarlú ná rialtas mionlaigh, nó toghachán eile. Ní déarfainn go mbeidh toghchán eile ar feadh tamaill is cuma conas mar a bheidh tréis na vótaí a bheith córithe. Beidh tamaillín i gceannas ag cothallán éigin. Tá caoi agat anois gaoth a thabhairt dod chuid airgid más cearrbhach maith thú.
