Surviving Exam Stress: Your Roadmap to Success!
Irene FlanneryFeeling the weight of impending exams? Whether you've been preparing diligently, or the panic is just setting in, your performance on exam day can make or break your hard work. Although the exams may not perfectly measure academic competence, being prepared is key to success. Stress is a natural response to the demands of sitting exams and you might be surprised to hear that some aspects of the stress response can enhance your ability to solve problems and access learned information quickly. Unfortunately, too much stress and high anxiety levels can stand in the way of getting what is inside your head onto the paper in front of you within the allotted time. Fear not, even if you tend to be a worrier, there is still time for you to prepare yourself for this stressful period and get the most out of the last few weeks of your exam preparation.
Understanding Stress
The human stress response has been with us for as long as we have lived on the planet and is probably the reason why we are still here. However, the threats that triggered us into the “freeze, fight or flight” mode have changed dramatically as has the time we allow ourselves to recover and recuperate between stressful events. Physical stress, such as the nervousness you feel before a big test, is a natural response to the demands of testing. However, excessive physical stress can hinder your ability to perform your best. Other physical stressors including poor sleep, phone addiction, smoking, caffeine and excessive exercise can add to the stress load of preparing and sitting exams. On the other hand, “perceived stress” stems from external pressures and expectations including deadlines and academic competition. In today's fast-paced world, where both types of stressors abound, it's vital to recognize the impact both physical and perceived stress can have on your exam performance and prepare accordingly.
Nutritional Tips for Exam Stress Management
What you eat can significantly impact your stress levels and cognitive function during exams. Incorporating certain nutrients into your diet can help calm your nerves and sharpen your focus. Here are some essential dietary tips to support your stress management efforts:
Magnesium – Nature’s Tranquilizer
Magnesium is often referred to as Nature’s tranquilizer – not the kind that would knock a horse, but interestingly, is abundant in the grass they eat! Magnesium plays a crucial role in relaxation and cognitive function. Incorporating magnesium-rich foods like leafy greens, pumpkin seeds, and almonds into your diet can help alleviate physical stress and promote clearer thinking. Optimizing your magnesium intake can relax tense muscles, dilate blood vessels for easier flow of oxygen to the brain and has a calming effect on neurotransmission, allowing for clearer thinking and rational thinking. Supplements can deliver a more therapeutic dose of magnesium in times of stress and are more bio-available to us in powder/ capsules as magnesium (bis)glycinate and magnesium citrate.
B-Vitamins: Nervous System Support
B-vitamins are essential for a healthy nervous system and energy production, making them invaluable during times of stress. Foods like whole grains, lentils, and lean meats provide a natural source of B-vitamins. Enhance the bio-availability of B vitamins by combining with enzyme-rich salads, steamed greens and watercress to unlock their potential. Like magnesium, our bodies deplete quickly of these nutrients in stressful periods so supplementing with a good quality B-complex would fill any gaps and ensure you are running on a full tank of Bs.
L-Theanine: Nervous System Soother
A lesser-known nutrient, yet one of my favourites, L-Theanine, is responsible for calming and soothing the nervous system without dulling the thought process or causing drowsiness. Best derived from high quality organic green tea which can be further enhanced by adding some lemon balm leaves to the brew. This timely tonic can be consumed hot or cooled, alternating with fresh water throughout the day as hydration is also critical to exam performance and concentration.
Glycine: Sleep
and Stress Support
Another amino acid, glycine, plays an important role in the sleep cycle. Sleep allows for recovery and repair after a stress event such as exams and allows the brain to process information making it easier to access and recall when needed. Supplemental glycine is usually formulated as Magnesium (Bis)glycinate because they make the perfect pair. It is also derived from natural food sources such as meat, fish and poultry. Bone broth is an excellent source as the glycine, ready to be absorbed from the liquid stock.
Vitamin C: Adrenal Support
Vitamin C supports adrenal gland function, helping your body cope with both physical and perceived stress more effectively and provides a pick-me-up when feeling exhausted. Also needed for the absorption of iron, of which low levels can be attributed to fatigue and slow-thinking. Snack on fresh fruits and vegetables to ensure you're getting an ample supply of this vital nutrient.
The last thing you want to add to your stress levels is more stress! Junk food, caffeine, stimulants, poor sleep, the news, social media and poor planning are the kind of stressors that can put you at risk of “overload” and anxiety, which will impede your exam performance. Between exams and during down times, take time to recover and repair in a calm and quiet environment. Take advantage of the heightened clarity that comes with a well-managed stress response by preparing healthy wholefood meals, prioritizing a good sleep routine and spend time outdoors in Nature. Add a few drops of essential oil of rosemary in your burner or diffuser when studying to enhance concentration, memory and recall. Remember to prioritize your self-care and stay confident in your abilities. You've got this!

Thanks to management Paddy Curran,Mike Kennedy and Ger O Callaghan.
The semi final saw ACL hit the ground running against a tigerish Spa,Fenit Barrow team. Maria Evans gave us a glimpse of things to come with an early effort. Maria then cleverly intercepted a kickout and rammed home our first goal. Constant pressure by our midfielders Lia Sheehy, Niamh O'Callaghan, Lucy Kennedy and Erin O'Shea set the platform for the second goal as Lia slipped in Saoirse Brosnan who placed beautifully to the far corner to put us 2-0 up. Orla Curran was smartly off her line to clear the danger as Captain Muireann Mehigan,Tara Laide,Jenna Crean and Aoibhinn O Callaghan kept Fenit/Spa / Barrow at bay. Maria then raided once more and slid home to give us a 3-0 lead at h/t.
minutes into the second half. Listowel showed what a tenacious side they are and a stunning free kick from them levelled it with 5 minutes to play. Cara put the skilful Lucy away up the wing and after skipping a few challenges was brought down on the edge of the box. Up stepped Saoirse to complete her hat trick with an outrageous free kick that screamed into the top corner to give our girls the lead. Two more agonising minutes passed as Captain Muireann and her teammates defended like tigers to seal gold as ref John Ross blew the final whistle!!!
Thanks to Camp Community Council for the great facilities, Paddy,Ger,Cathal and Niall for lining and setting up the pitches .

Thanks to Listowel for a great game, the coordinator Denis who presented the medals on behalf of Kerry Community Games and ref John Ross.

Cara Fitzgerald then entered the fray and sprayed some excellent passes to keep us on the front foot. Aoibhinn took a lovely touch and unleashed a long range effort to make it 4-0 on a balmy summers morning.
The final saw us play old rivals Listowel but a number of ACL girls were determined to win back to back U-15 Gold in 2023 & 2024 and set their stall out early. Pressure paid off when Aoibhinn slid in Saoirse and Saoirse does what she does best, well she scores goals!!!! Lucy came close before Listowel equalised to leave it 1-1 at h-t.
Lia and Niamh got to grips with Listowel's danger threat and Saoirse got her second 5
Special mention to Anne Marie Curran,Jacqui Laide,Nicola Sheehy,Brid Lyne and Michelle Farrell O Callaghan for looking after the shop during the morning.
Final thanks to Muriel Devane for all the hard work and organisation behind the scenes, much appreciated!!!!
Once Upon a Time in the Southwest
Ted CreedonFarmer shot six times
-Western Morning News, 24 November, 1888
The body of a farmer named Denis Daly was found on Thursday night on the roadside near Castleisland. He had been shot four times in the chest and twice in the head. It is believed the victim was seized, thrown down on the ground and shot at close range.
Daly returned from America a few years ago and bought a farm about which there had been some dispute. However, it is not believed he was murdered due to some agrarian disagreement.
His wife is some 20 years younger and it seems they had been quarrelling frequently recently. She taunted him about his age. On Wednesday evening he had a violent quarrel with her and she left the home and returned to her own family. The police have arrested three people on suspicion of involvement in the murder.
Boy with a fractured skull
-Kerry Reporter, 29 April, 1888
A few days ago two 16 year-old inmates of the Tralee Union Workhouse named Dan Slattery and Michael Cleary were amusing themselves by throwing stones in the Workhouse playground.
Cleary was the stronger of the two and flung a stone at Slattery who turned his back on the missile. But the stone struck the back of his head and fractured his skull. The examining doctor decided that the wound was so serious the boy’s life was now in danger.
Cleary was then arrested by Sergeant Clarke of the R.I.C. and jailed until the incident and outcome could be fully investigated.
Bodies washed ashore near Valentia
- Globe, 08 October, 1889
Some bodies and an amount of wreckage have been washed ashore near Valentia. A brigantine is known to have foundered in heavy seas and a gale with all hands lost off the harbour yesterday morning. Some Valentia fishing vessels were severely damage during the gale.
Killed by a bridge
- Kerry Reporter, 21 April, 1888
Last Wednesday morning Maurice Hartnett who was the guard on the Ballybunion–Listowel train met with a freakish death while on the early morning train from Ballybunion.
It is believed he was on the steps of the carriage when the train was approaching the first railroad bridge on the route. The bridge is low and his head struck it. His wounds were so bad that death must have been instantaneous according to the medical attendants.
This information on the accident is entirely based on supposition as there were no witnesses.
(Difficult to understand this item. His head must have hit the sidewall of the bridge rather than the bridge being low. The space between the bridge and the train must have been narrow?)
Emigration and football accidents
- Kerry Reporter, 20 April, 1889
Large numbers of people are leaving every day from the Dingle area. No less than 80 people left today to catch a boat on their journey to seek their fortunes in America. They were made up mainly of young men and young women.
Football accidents – two young men, members of Castlegregory G.A.A,
are currently attending Dingle hospital. One of them is suffering from a broken collar-bone and the other has a broken wrist. Their injuries occurred while playing in a recent football match.
Cloghane fishermen jailed
- Kerry Evening Post, 11 March, 1893
Five of the Cloghane fishermen, who were fined for illegal fishing on Lord Ventry’s and Mr. Hickson’s rivers at Cloghane, were jailed today. They were each fined two pounds and ten shillings by the magistrates at the Petty Sessions. They appealed the fines but the decision of the magistrates was confirmed.
Subsequently, the fishermen appealed to the Lord Lieutenant in Dublin Castle and an order was received reducing the fines to ten shillings.
However, the fishermen refused to pay these fines and costs and ended up in jail. It is expected, from telegrams received from Dublin Castle, that the men will be released in a few days.
(Fair play to those fishermen for fighting their corner.)
Attempted murder of two brothers following funeral
- Shields Daily Gazette, 20 April, 1889
Last Tuesday evening a murder was committed near Laharn, a few miles from the town of Caherciveen. Two brothers named Shea were on their way home from a funeral with two brothers named McCarthy.
Whatever the reason, the Sheas attacked the McCarthys and, it is alleged, stabbed one to death on the spot. The other McCarthy brother is not expected to recover
One of the Sheas has since been arrested and the other had not been arrested by the time this paper went to press.
(Were they intoxicated – was it planned before the funeral – who brings knives to a funeral?)
Stole Tickets
- Kerry Evening Post, 11 March, 1893
Private Sullivan, of the Munster Fusiliers (104 Reg.) was last week tried by court-marshal at Ballymullen Barracks, Tralee. He was facing a charge of having stolen tickets. These tickets were the property of Miss Maggie Morton’s Dramatic Company.
Sullivan was found guilty and sentenced to six months imprisonment and ordered to be discharged from the army. He had served in his regiment for more than five years.
(Miss Morton’s Travelling theatre company was hugely popular in the U.K. and it visited Ireland on occasion. Her dramas featured military stories and attracted large crowds.)

Tá lios i Ráthanáin agus tógadh caisleán ann cúpla céad bliain tar éis dosna háitritheoirí an lios a thréigint. Ba insna liosanna a mhaireadh na feirmeoirí móra agus a dteaghlaigh. Tugann seandálaithe liosanna nó ráthanna ar na cinn a bhfuil claí cré acu agus cathracha ar na cinn a bhfuil clocha sa chlaí. Uaireanta bhíodh claí adhmaid anuas ar an gcré. Bhíodh tigh laistigh desna clathacha. Clocháin a bhíodh iontu don gcuid is mó i gCorca Dhuibhne. Bhíodh uaimh talúin i gcuid acu mar atá i Ráthanáin. Slándáil nó dídean an fheidhm a bhí acu. Maireann na liosanna ón dtréimhse idir an 7ú agus an 10ú haois A.D. B’fhéidir ag deireadh an ceathrú haois deag nó insan chúigiú haois deag a tógadh an caisleán ann. Is caisleán de chuid na nGearaltach é, chomh maith leis na cinn i nGallaras agus i Min Aird. Bhí Ridire Chiarraí ina chónaí ann. De ghnáth is túr cearnógach a bhíonn insna caisleáin seo, bíonn idir trí go dtína cúig hurlár iontu, fuinneoga caola agus forbhallaí arda le cíor lámhaigh. Tógadh iad mar áitreabh daingne ag na huaisle, idir Normánaigh agus Éireannaigh. Tá Caisleán Ráthanáin ina fhothrach ó aimsir Chromail.
A well-known site for anyone travelling west from Dingle along the Slea Head Drive is Ráthanáin castle and ringfort, situated on Mám na Gaoithe, near Ceann Trá. This national monument stands out as a multi-period site, re-used in the medieval period when a tower-house was built within the earlier ringfort, which was probably also re-fortified at the time, although originally being constructed in the early medieval period.
Ringforts are one of the most common monuments that we have. Wellto-do farmers and their families lived within these enclosures, in houses usually made of stone here in Corca Dhuibhne (clocháin), although other building materials might also have been used. This site at Ráthanáin also
has a souterrain (or underground passage) entered from the fosse or ditch area. These features may have been used for storage and also possibly for refuge. Ringforts have a general date range of from the 7th to the 10th centuries AD.
Later on, probably in the 14th or 15th century, the branch of the Fitzgerald family known as the Knights of Kerry built a tower-house castle within this monument, re-using the surrounding banks as a defensive feature, and maximising on the strategic location on Mám na Gaoithe, commanding the pass but also with a good view of Ventry Harbour. Castles generally tend to be located in strategic areas, with a very good view all around from the battlemented area on the roof, adding to their defensive nature.
The family here seem to have been in the area from the early 14th century, and were one of the major landholders at that time. Minard and Gallarus were also FitzGerald castles, and they would also have had others in the area, including in Dingle town, which may have been their home from the later 17th century. In later years, in the 18th century, the family moved into Grove House in Dingle, the site of which is where the Pobalscoil is now built.
Tower-houses generally have 3-5 storeys, with either a spiral stairs or lengths of straight stairs within the walls giving access to the upper floors. The entrance doorway is usually defended and they have narrow windows and crenellated battlements. Normally at least one of the floors consisted of a stone vault (as can be seen at Ráthanáin), while the others were of timber and there was usually only one main room on each floor, with one or more much smaller chambers around the sides. Higher floors would have contained more private rooms, bedrooms and living rooms, while the ground floor was generally used for storage. There are 3 stories in Ráthanáin, with a mural stair.
Tower-houses were the fortified residences of the better-off members of the Anglo-Irish and Irish gentry alike. Those surviving in West Kerry did not generally continue in use as dwelling places from the mid-17th century onwards (and sometimes earlier), for a variety of reasons, not least the Confederate wars of that time and the change in land ownership that resulted. This was the case with Ráthanáin.
Please note that this monument is on private property, and permission must be obtained from the landowner before visiting the site.

The 1924 All-Ireland Senior Football Final – Kerry v Dublin
Ted CreedonOne hundred years have passed since Kerry met Dublin in the 1924 AllIreland Senior Football Championship in Croke Park – or have they? The answer is no, they haven’t because the 1924 final was played in 1925. Why was that? It’s difficult to pin it down but several verbal sources speculate that there were internal disputes, arguments and disagreements about various issues so we won’t get involved in that in this article.
The new Hogan stand was ready by the final and had been named after Michael Hogan, a member of the Tipperary football team. He was murdered by the Black-and-Tans in Croke Park ahead of a meeting between Tipperary and Dublin on Bloody Sunday, 21 November, 1920. Many of those attending that match were also slaughtered in the murderous gunfire.
Back to the 1924 final. Dublin were going for four-in-a-row that Sunday and were determined to achieve it. However, Kerry had other plans for the outcome.
Dingle man Jack Sheehy was the Kingdom’s goalkeeper on the occasion and kept a clean sheet as did the Dublin keeper, in fact.
By all accounts it was a hard fought but very low scoring contest by comparison with what we expect in modern encounters. The game ended with victory for the Kingdom, Kerry 0-4, Dublin 0-3. Midfielder Con Brosnan scored the winning point. It would be more than another 50 years before Dublin got the better of Kerry in a Championship final. That was in 1976 and - almost 50 years ago now.
Jack Sheehy’s grand-nephew Patrick Sheehy and family are the Dingle keepers of Jack’s gold medal from that final. At some point in the mid1920s Jack went to America and while there brought his gold medal to an engraver.
But he didn’t have to pay for the service because the value of the gold dust, which was removed to accommodate Jacks Sheehy’s name, actually paid for the engraving work, according to Patrick. That’s a nice story.
Perhaps some commemoration of the actual date, 100 years ago in 1925, could be organised by the GAA for next April?

The Castlegregory Community Games quiz team took first place at the County Finals recently in Keel. They will now go on to represent Kerry at the National Finals in Kilkenny this June. The team members were Tadhg O'Neill, Evie Fields, Eamon Fitzgibbon & Kieran Flynn (L-R), all from Castlegregory National School. A great achievement and we wish them all the best at the finals.
Open Call for Culture Night
Plans are already underway for the annual Culture Night Kerry which will take place this year on Friday, September 20 and proposals are sought for events across Kerry.
Now in its 19th year, Culture Night is a key moment in the national calendar that celebrates the richness and diversity of culture in Ireland today; connecting people to cultural activities locally and nationally and opening up pathways to ongoing engagement. Culture Night is developed by the Arts Council of Ireland in partnership with local authorities and many other organisations and individuals.
On Friday 20 September Ireland will become a cultural playground where everyone is invited to seek out culture around every corner. Doors to museums, theatres and galleries will open late. Special events will be programmed at participating locations and, thanks to the continued support of the Arts Council as well as local authorities such as Kerry County Council, all activities are made available to the public free of charge.
Culture Night is One Night for All. It invites everyone, everywhere, on one night to discover and celebrate all that our culture is today. Last year over 1.2 million people engaged with 1,700 Culture Night events across Ireland. Culture Night Late supported 19 flagship events across the country in 2023. Each event began after 9pm and continued to late into the night.
LATE at Gallarus Oratory in Dingle was one of the events supported and was a national highlight of the programme. Crowds gathered under the September night sky to see Vienna-based artist, Tim Schmelzer, bring to life the historic monument with a 15minute light show.
The Arts Office in Kerry County Council aim to build on the successes of 2023 and hope for another vibrant programme of events for Culture Night 2024.
For 2024, the Arts Office wish to encourage more inclusive and innovative arts events suitable for a range of audience types.
The following list shows the wide range of people and institutions that help make Culture Night happen each year and who will hopefully again consider making an application for Culture Night 2024; the public, artists, performing groups, galleries, museums, sports clubs, libraries, arts centres, craft workers, studios and workshops, theatres, public spaces, broadcasters, schools, community groups, local authorities, government departments, state agencies and public bodies, transport companies, universities, shops and many more.
Culture Night Kerry is funded by Kerry County Council and the Arts Council and supported by Creative Ireland Kerry. The Arts Office is asking for anyone interested in organising an event for Culture Night Kerry to get in touch at arts@kerrycoco.ie or visit the website arts.kerrycoco.ie/culture-night/ to submit a proposal online.
Deadline for submissions is 5pm Tuesday 4 June 2024.
Culture Night is a collaborative experience with an emphasis on opening doors, welcoming people into new spaces and the discovery of different experiences. The Arts Council’s #PayTheArtist policy is being highlighted in terms of participation to ensure that artists who are invited to perform and participate are paid. If making an application, ensure all creatives and performers are supported.

Mícheál Ó hUanacháin
Tar éis liosta deas torthaí maithe – nach mór seacht seachtainí gan cliseadh i ngach comortas – bhí sé de mhí-ádh ar na Ciarraígh le coicíos anuas gur ar fhoirne eile a bhí i ndea-fhoirm a chasadar.
Thaistealaíodar go Cill Mantáin, åit a raibh Fánaithe Bhré ag fanacht leo, agus chuaigh an dá fhoireann timpeall a chéile go neirbhíseach ar feadh an chéad leath den chluiche, gan aon chuid dá gcumas troda a léiriú, agus is cinnte go bhfuil cumas sa dá fhoireann san.
Ach deirtear i gcónaí gurb í an chosaint is fearr an t-ionsaí, agus leathbhealach tríd an dara leath, nuair nár léir aon ionsaí ag an bhfoireann Muimhneach, chuir lucht Bhré cúl san eangach, agus ceann eile deich nóiméad níos déanaí.
Is maith is eol dúinn gur faide an bealach abhaile agus gan aon phointe sraithe tuillte agat!
Ceannródaithe na sraithe an chéad dream eile a bhí ar cuairt chuig Trá Lí, agus rugadar san an bua leo chomh maith. Ní raibh sé chomh héasca, b'fhéidir, agus a shamhlaigh muintir Chorcaí roimh ré, agus mura mbeadh breith an réiteora gur lena láimh a stop Kevin Williams iarracht eangaigh Chathal O'Sullivan an-luath sa chluiche, b'fhéidir gur malairt toradh a bheadh ann.
Rinne foireann na Ríochta sár-iarrachtaí sa bhfiche nóiméad deireanach an comhscór a aimsiú, ach theip orthu. Ar shlí, ni togtha orthu é, agus foireann na cathrach i mbarr a réime, ar shlí. Tuairim na coitiantachta gurb iad Cathair Chorcaí a bheidh ag filleadh ar an bPríomh-Shraith mar Churaí ag deireadh an tséasúir.
Agus mé á scríobh seo, tá Corcaigh ocht bpointe chun cinn ar gach éinne eile sa Chéad Sraith, agus gan aon chluiche caillte go fóill acu.
Ach níl leath an tséasúir curtha dínn againn go fóill, agus is mó cor a chuirfidh sé de roimh theacht chun críche.
Dé Luain seo caite, an lá saoire bainc, thaisteal na Ciarraígh isteach sa lár tíre, agus in imeacht cúig nóiméad sa chéad leath in aghaidh Bhaile Longfoirt, ghéilleadar dhá chúl tapaidh. Trua san, mar b'shin cluiche go mba dhóigh lena lucht tacaíochta go raibh seans maith acu é bhuachaint.
Tá Baile Longfoirt ag bun na Sraithe, agus go dtí an tráthnóna san, ní raibh aon chluiche buaite acu. Is cinnte gur thuig an bainisteoir Conor McCarthy an méid san, mar rinne sé dhá athrú ar an bhfoireann, an dís naoscaire Ryan Kelliher agus Daniel Okwute a thabhairt isteach díreach tar éis an dá chúl.
Bhí ciall leis an athrú san, cé gur thóg sé go dtí lár an dara leath sarar scóráil Kelliher. an chaid seolta chuige ag Okwute agus “cic rothair” is a chúl leis an eangach ag fear Chiarraí chun cúlbáire Longfoirt, Jack Brady, a chloí agus seans éigin a thabhairt dóibh ar chomhscór.
Ach b'shin an cuid ab fhearr den imirt acu, agus níl idir iad féin agus Longfort anois ach dhá phointe.
Tá níos mó ná scór cluichí fós le n-imirt sa sraith, agus níl ach dornán torthaí fábharacha de dhíth chun stádas foirne a athrú go mór. Bímis ag tnúth leo!

Sun Glare Campaign - A Good Result.
Ted Creedon
The six-month-long public campaign to warn motorists about the dangers of being blinded by the sun, or sun glare, while driving in west Kerry has reached a successful conclusion.
Several appeals were made to the Road Safety Authority (RSA) during that period to introduce warnings and advice on sun glare for the benefit of the motoring public, to be broadcast via national and local radio.
The RSA have recently introduced such warnings on the above-mentioned media for the benefit of not only motorists but also pedestrians and cyclists and are to be applauded for their response to the appeals.
Sincere thanks to those friends and supporters who rang. phoned, emailed and sent cards welcoming the success of the campaign.

Dingle Notes
Richie WilliamsBUSINESS. The Business Chamber welcome another new business, The Shoe Box, a ladies Footwear Boutique which is due to open shortly in Main Street Dingle.
Another business outlet should be opening its doors to the public shortly just across the street in the former premises commonly referred to locally as Father Noel's House.
As the tourist season has really reached another gear since Easter the Business Chamber request all employees to park their vehicles during normal working hours in areas outside of the town centre. Hopefully we will get a better response to this request than in previous years which is aimed to free up valuable parking spaces for residents, locals and visitors to shop and complete their business in town.
PAIRC AN BHAILE. Those groups or clubs who wish to get priority time for use of the recently reopened Multi Purpose Playing Area in Dingle Town Park are advised to contact Ann Marie Lynch in the Kerry County Council local office to facilitate the printing of suitable signs to highlight the times the area is not available to casual users. Groups or clubs should have their own insurance cover in place prior to use of this badly needed facility catering for people of all ages.
TEMPERANCE HALL. Work on the renovations to the Dingle Temperance Hall in Upper Main Street is due to start this week and all going well the building should be open to the public by early September this year.
Groups who have been using the facility on a regular or irregular basis up to now will be accommodated at an alternative venue in the interim period.
The Snooker Tables which were the main attraction in the Hall for many generations are still in pristine condition and looking for a new home otherwise they will have to be dismantled and reduced to scrap very shortly.
FÉILE NA BEALTAINE. What a fantastic programme of culture, art, music, song and literature we were treated to once again during the Féile na Bealtaine Weekend which was celebrating its 30th birthday this year. We would love to summarise each sector but that would not be fair to all venues, individuals and participants. However I would particularly like to mention Aistear Pheig Mhór which was a tremendous hit by all who witnessed both displays of street theatre to the utter amazement and inquisitiveness of unsuspecting visitors.
Also the huge underused facility we have in the Town Park, a wonderful public space right in the middle of our town. The relatively simple yet entertaining and popular programme there proved that the place is wide open for other festivals, groups and organisations to incorporate activities there on a more regular basis.
Our sincere thanks to the hardworking group in Féile na Bealtaine for the huge effort over many years in putting this wonderful weekend together and hopefully for another 30 years to come.
DARKNESS INTO LIGHT. The Annual Darkness Into Light Walk takes place this Saturday Morning meeting at the usual locations at 4am. with the proceeds going to Pieta House who provide much needed assistance to people under various pressures in their lives. Prior registration is recommended but everyone is welcome to join in and donate if desired at the venue.

CELEBRATIONS The Junction Bar was packed to overflowing on Saturday 27th April when family and friends joined Jimmy O'Dwyer, Camp Cross
to celebrate his 60th Birthday. They came from all over the country, many of them friends and colleagues of Jimmy's from his sheep shearing days. Our champion sheep shearer, Jimmy O'Dwyer, who shore a record 620 sheep in 9 hours at The All Ireland Sheep Shearing held in Camp Community field in 1990. Jimmy was to continue on a winning streak and 21 years later in 2011, his speed shearing feat, shearing 20 sheep in 20 minutes was once again highlighted in local and national media. Jimmy's shearing events raised much needed funds for Camp Community Sports Field, a gem in the sporting landscape of West Kerry today. Congratulations Jimmy, a friend in need is a friend indeed, were the warm sentiments attributed to Jimmy by his good friend Brigid before the cutting of the birthday cake. The cake, a beautiful artistic creation baked by Catherine Griffin-Fitzmaurice, was admired and enjoyed by all. Go maire tú an céad, Jimmy!

Dingle CBS Athletics Team, Late 1950s
80th Anniversary of Historic Football Game
On 30th April 1944 there was a challenge match in Croke Park between the Dublin county team and a West Kerry selection in aid of the purchase and development of Páirc an Ághasaigh in Dingle . The idea of such a game initially came about when Joe Fitzgerald from Ballyferriter, who had captained Dublin to win the All Ireland in 1942, had told his Dublin team mates about the abundance of talent in Corca Dhuibhne and even suggested that a team could be picked from there that could take on any county team. The Dublin boys saw this as a challenge and from that came the game in Croke Park which was then used as a fundraiser for Páirc an Ághasaigh. The match was started by Gregory Ashe, brother of Tomás Ashe after whom the new football field was named
Given that the game took place during wartime travel restrictions it was not surprising that most of the West Kerry team was selected from players who were Dublin-based or nearby (Teachers, Gardaí and Students) but that didn't stop Billamite, Sean Brosnan, Bawn and Timneen somehow getting themselves to Dublin.
The West Kerry men were victorious on a 0-8 to 0-7 scoreline.

Is ó Thráigh Fionntrá, de réir traidisiúin a ghabhann siar breis is míle bliain, a thugadh lucht oilithreachta aghaidh ar Chnoc Bréanainn is ar Chosán na Naomh. Sa tseanlitríocht, is ag an trá seo a tharla an comhrac miotasach, ar a dtugtar Cath Fionntrá, inar sháraigh laoch mór na bhFiann in Éirinn, Fionn Mac Cumhaill ‘Impire an Domhain go léir seachas Éire’, Dáire Donn. 2. Cill na gColmán
Láthair mhainistreach ó na Luath-Mheánaoiseanna is ea Cill na gColmán. Impí ar phaidir do Cholmán, oilithreach, atá san inscríbhinn Oghaim atá mar leathfhráma ag na crosa. Ní mór geata an ghoirt a dhúnadh id dhiaidh.

Annascaul Allotments
Today I was thinking about something I read in a newspaper a few years ago. It was presented as a very dramatic announcement, with big black capital letters and exclamation marks.
It said; "After considerable research it has been discovered that VEGETABLES GROWN WITH CHEMICALS HAVE EXACTLY THE SAME VITAMINS AND MINERALS AS ORGANIC ONES!!!!"
Well that's such an interesting and clever statement, because at first I found myself fooled, Wow, it doesn't matter what I eat after all! Then I did a double take... Hang on, of course they will all have the same vitamins, this is not the reason I prefer to eat vegetables grown without chemicals. Because I don't want the chemicals, of course!
What chemicals are most commonly used, and approved in Ireland?
Glysophate, this is a weedkiller produced by Monsanto with the brand name of Roundup. This one is a real concern, we might go into more detail another time, suffice to say it is banned for household use in France, the Netherlands and Belgium. Germany plans a total ban by the end of 2024. Ireland has just signed to extend Roundups legal use in Ireland for another 10 years. Woo Hoo.
The following is the list of some of the approved chemicals just for diseases of brussels sprouts, I've not even looked at chemicals that deal with brussels sprouts pests. azoxystrobin, difenoconazole, boscalid, pyraclostrobin, fluxapyroaxad, prothioconazole, fluopicolide, propamocarb, mandipropamid, tebuconazole, tryfloxistrobin.
There are 100 pages in this document, and 27 vegetables.
I have no idea what any of these are, because I've never used them, though I'm curious now and will probably do a bit of googling.
So, in Annascaul Allotments, what do we use for weeds? Our hands, a hoe.
What do we do for diseases? We diligently remove any plant that shows signs of disease.
What do we do about pests? We reluctantly use organic slug pellets, and search brassicas regularly for caterpillar eggs which we squish.
What do we use for fertiliser? Horse manure, seaweed, nettle liquid, chicken pellets.
Although we cannot use the word organic for our produce, (we aren't yet registered) we DO grow organically without the use of any nasty chemicals.
Don't forget the market on Sunday, outside Hanafins in Annascaul from 2 till 4 30.
If you want to order flowers or vegetables please send a message to Donna's Whatsapp 0831078214

Irish Guide Dogs (Tralee branch) visit Meán Scoil Nua an Leith Triúigh
Wellbeing Week was held in Meán Scoil Nua an Leith Triúigh, Castlegregory, in March and it was a huge success. One of the highlights of this week for some of our students was the visit from the Irish Guide Dogs volunteers and of course, their ambassador dog, Marcel.
Students received an educational presentation from Anna, who volunteers with the Irish Guide Dogs Association. This presentation explained all the wonderful work they do in the Tralee Branch and how they train their puppies to becoming a Guide Dog. There were lots of smiles beaming across the corridors when students got to meet their ambassador dog, Marcel. Isn’t it wonderful the effect a dog has on a child?
It costs over €5 million each year to run the Irish Guide Dogs organisation in Ireland and 85% is dependent on the generosity of the public. With this huge cost in mind, we wanted to contribute to this wonderful work so we decided to hold a fundraiser. The staff and students together raised €100 for the Tralee branch of the Irish Guide Dogs. Education and awareness is pivotal to inspiring future Volunteers and supporting the users of these Guide Dogs.
On Monday last, a cheque was presented to the Irish Guide Dogs, Tralee Branch.
Message from Fr Michael
The 4th-century theologian Jerome tells a story about the Apostle John. When John was old and frail, and unable to walk, his disciples would carry him into the gathering of believers on the Lord’s Day. Every week these were his words to the congregation: “Little children, love one another.” This went on week after week, until at last, more than a little weary of these repeated words, his disciples asked him, “Master, why do you always say this?” “Because,” John replied, “it is the Lord’s command, and if this only is done, it is enough”. The readings at Mass last Sunday were all about love. It is somewhat odd that Jesus commanded his followers to love. Surely love must be spontaneous to be effective. Elsewhere we are told to love as Jesus loved. Loving others can be hard work. But loving makes us more than who we are as individuals. When we love we are part of something bigger than ourselves. We are told that when we love one another we know God because God is love. So, when we love, we are actually making God real in the world. When we love, we are putting a face to God. We are God's hands and God's feet in this world. When we love, God's love is made real in the world. Jesus asks us to love one another. Jesus asks us to love everyone in the same way that parents love their children. In other words, when we see someone in need we ask ourselves, 'If this was my child, how could I help her or him?" That is the challenge of the Gospel: To love everyone. “This is my commandment: love one another, as I have loved you”
Congratulations to the children who received their First Holy Communion, in St Mary's Church Dingle, on Sunday last. A word of thanks to their families and teachers and all those who nourish the faith of the younger generation. A word of encouragement to the children and their families to continue to be nourished at that table of the Lord at the weekly celebration of the Eucharist. Some of the children received Rosary beads as a gift for their First Holy Communion. The months of May and October are associated with praying of the rosary. Teaching your child to pray the rosary is giving them a gift that will last throughout their life. It is possible to connect to God on our own, but it is easier to pray as part of a faith community. From earliest times the followers of Christ gathered to pray. First Holy Communion will be celebrated on Saturday May 11th in Sacred Heart Church, Annascaul –at 11am for Scoil Bhreac Chluain and on Sunday 19ú Bealtaine i Séipéal Naomh Eoin Baiste, Lios Póil ag 11rn for Scoil Eoin Baiste, Lios Póil. A Diocesan Youth Pilgrimage to Taizé, France will take place from June 23rd to June 30th. For more information contact Tomás at tomaskenny@dioceseofkerry.ie. Another date for your Diary is Saturday 24th August when the Kerry Diocesan Pilgrimage to Knock will take place. Further details later.
Yours sincerely - Fr Michael Hail, Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Chicken Shawarma & Sumac Yogurt
Mark Murphy, Dingle Cookery School
Dive into the vibrant flavours of the Middle East with Chicken Shawarma. The succulent slices of marinated chicken marinated in a blend of spices, lemon and garlic will result in a mouth-watering dish that you can use time and time again, weather it is for a mid-week meal or a family barbeque. For the yogurt I have added some sumac to the yogurt, it adds a citrus freshness to the dish. If you can find sumac continue with the rest of the ingredients it still will add to the dish.
Ingredients
2 lemons, juiced
4 cloves garlic, peeled, smashed and minced
2 tsp. freshly ground black pepper
2 tsp. ground cumin
2 tsp. paprika
½ tsp. turmeric
½ tsp. cinnamon
pinch of chilli flakes, to taste
olive oil
salt and pepper
700g chicken thighs, skin and bone removed
1 red onion, thinly sliced
bunch of flat leaf parsley, chopped
For the yogurt
200g natural yogurt
2 cloves garlic, crushed
1 tsp. sumac
Small bunch of mint leaves, finely chopped
Method
In a large bowl add the lemon juice, garlic, cumin, paprika, turmeric and chilli flakes.
Mix in the oil, and a little salt and pepper. Mix this all well and add the chicken, coat the chicken well and leave this to marinade overnight.
Preheat the oven to 180ºC
E: tellus@gsi.ie
W: gsi.ie/tellus
Drizzle a tray with oil, add the red onion to the marinated chicken. Mix this well. Spread this over the tray and pop in the oven. Cook this for about 25-30 minutes. Check that the chicken is cooked, remove from the oven and rest for about 3 minutes, slice it and add the parsley.
You can get ready the yogurt sauce while the chicken is cooking.
Mix the all the ingredients for the sauce together.
Serve this with some flatbread and salad.

Film Review:
The Fall Guy
Tom Ó Neachtain
as Colt Seavers, a Hollywood stuntman trying to win back the affections of his ex-girlfriend Jodie, who also happens to be the director of the stunt-heavy blockbuster he’s working on. Things get even more complicated when Colt is tasked with tracking down the film’s leading actor, who’s recently fallen in with a bad crowd and is nowhere to be found. The film begins with a quick montage of famous film stunts with Colt telling the audience through narration about the huge amount of care and craft that goes into pulling off an elaborate stunt on camera. This beginning perfectly encapsulates the reverence the film-makers have for stunts and the men and women who put their bodies through pain and exhaustion, take after take, to get the best shot possible.
The film-makers’ reverence for the art of stuntmaking is evident in the film’s plot. The film is set on a film set, where a fictional Blockbuster, Metalstorm, is being shot. Colt is a stuntman on Metalstorm and through him we get an insider look into how large-scale stunts are executed. This enthusiasm for stunt-making is also evident when Colt steps off-set and gets wrapped up in action hijinks. There’s a fantastic variety in the different types of action sequences The Fall Guy offers. There’s a frantic car chase involving a French dog, a neon-soaked nightclub brawl and even a gunfight where we don’t know which weapons are props and which are real. These
sequences feel meticulously crafted but always maintain a comedic, slapstick edge.
The film’s other big draw is its pair of romantic leads - Gosling as Colt and Emily Blunt as Jodie. The film places a romance at the core of its story, something surprisingly rare in today’s blockbuster landscape. This works in the film’s favour. Gosling and Blunt have fantastic chemistry and their romance keeps the film’s simple storyline engrossing. It was a clever decision by the film-makers to center the storyline around a fictional film-shoot and many different aspects of the film-making process are central to the plot. The film’s depiction of the movie-making process, as well as the rom-com aspects of the story, set The Fall Guy apart from any other action-film in recent memory.
The Fall Guy manages to simultaneously be an inventive action-romp, an easilyunderstandable depiction of the film-making process, a remarkably endearing romantic comedy, and a joyous celebration of stuntmen and the stunt-making process. The 2024 summer season has started off with a bang.

It’s All In The Mind: Appreciating The Little Things
Orla SmythFollowing the wonderful festival of Feile na Bealtaine, so many of us are immensely grateful and appreciative to the performers, most especially to the organizers and even to the weather gods for giving us this very special opportunity to experience the joy, fellowship, sense of community and sheer exuberance that the weekend evoked.
Here is a gentle meditation practice that may help us to appreciate the less spectacular but equally magical everyday moments of wonder that often go unnoticed.
Begin by calming the mind. As you sit, becoming as comfortable as possible, allow your mind to become more comfortable too.
Focus on your breathing, breathing a bit more deeply than you usually do and exhaling a bit more slowly. Observing the breath is a great way to bring the mind into a state of focus. Take your time breathing; let it move slowly and effortlessly.
Shift your awareness from your breath back to your body now, feeling the floor beneath you, the sensation of air on the skin, releasing any obvious tension or tightness.
Now, think about the room or the space that you are in. How does it feel to be here? What is this place like? Begin to take notice of the little things around you that you might take for granted as you go about your busy days. Notice anything that is pleasing -colours , shapes, patterns, textures…
Notice the sounds in this room now. Maybe you hear the hum of electricity or the sound of voices, a dog barking in the distance and rather than thinking of these sounds as noises or distractions, lend some appreciation to them. Think of each sound as an opportunity to explore your surroundings and become more mindful of all of the moving parts that exist here. Just listen. Be present.
Breathe deeply now and see what you can smell. See if you can uncover scents that you may not have realized were here. Inhaling through the nose as you pick up on subtle aromas. Perhaps you smell the wood of the floor beneath you or of the walls around you. Or maybe you can smell plants or soil, or maybe you notice other scents drifting in through the window or from another room. Just breathe, explore, and appreciate this moment of mindfulness. If there is an absence of smell – or of any other sense – that is okay too. Just notice what you notice.
Now, begin to extend your awareness to outside of your immediate surroundings. Think about your entire home and everything within it. Bring to mind the things that you use every day to help your life run more smoothly: alarm clocks, refrigerators, sinks, closets, clothes. See yourself going through a normal day but moving more slowly through it – more mindfully. Taking your time getting dressed, washing up, eating, and working. Imagine taking the time each day to express gratitude for all of these modern conveniences. Try not to dwell on the haves and have
nots. Simply appreciate every aspect of your daily experience. Continue to breathe deeply, setting an intention to move more mindfully throughout each day starting right now.
In the wise words of author G.K. Chesterton, "When it comes to life, the critical thing is whether you take things for granted or take them with gratitude.” Commit to turning your ‘for granted’s into gratitude, mindfully walking through your life and making an effort to notice more, feel more, and see more.
Take a couple more deep breaths, fully integrating this idea of appreciation. And when you are ready, breathe naturally – and become aware of your body once again. Feel the floor beneath you, the air against your skin. Notice the sounds around you as you slowly allow your eyes to open, taking everything in. This is your life. You are here, right now. Recent Festivals & Events
The atmosphere around the Peninsula has been fantastic over the last couple of weeks and has highlighted why people love visiting our area. With the local festivals & events showcasing our cultural heritage, the Irish language, music, drama & crafts that we are so well known for. We had Féile Na Bealtaine last weekend which really did show what a local festival is all about, with participation right across the Peninsula. This surely shows what we mean by ‘Good tourism’ where visitors were able to come down and stay a few days enjoying the entertainment, which benefited so many local businesses and experiencing the warmth of the local communities at the same time.
It was great to see Peig Mhór back again!!!
Prior to that we had the annual Ride Dingle event which brought its own set of visitors and also contributed to a busy start to the season. Well, done to everyone that participated.
University College Cork
We had a group visit from the University College Cork (UCC) which included 20 lecturers from Spain, Mexico, Italy, & Columbia to see how our 10 small family run businesses were getting on with their EU funded Circular Economy for Regenerative Tourism program. It was great to interact and swap ideas plus they were able to stay for a few days and have a chance to sample what we have to offer.
Western Mass Officials visit the Dingle Peninsula
The Greater Springfield Convention and Visitors Bureau (GSCVB), using the brand Explore Western Mass and the Dingle Peninsula Tourism Alliance had an Economic Development & Trade Summit at Ionad an Bhlascaoid, The Great Blasket Centre, Dún Chaoin which was also attended by representatives from Kerry County Council, Failte Ireland, The Mayors of West Springfield & Kerry to name just a few. Discussions about continued collaboration took place and a letter of intent was signed by The Blasket Islands Centre and Springfield Museums allowing for a sharing of memorabilia about the diaspora and Irish immigration to Western Mass. The event went very well and the delegation of 30 stayed for 6 days and enjoyed many of the activities plus getting involved with Féile Na Bealtaine for the first time, including a wonderful Dr Deuss reading by Liz Knapp, the curator of the Springfield Museum celebrating the relationship between Corca Dhuibhne and Springfield Western Massachusetts.
We also had a “Celebrate Western Mass” Dinner at the Great Blasket Centre with Chef Mick Corduff who hails from Baile an Fheirtéaraigh and runs a
successful banquet hall and restaurant, The Log Cabin, and Delaney House in Holyoke. Mick’s menu highlighted his Irish roots with his Western Mass experiences.

The Narcotics Anonymous Message
An addict, any addict, can stop using drugs, lose the desire to use and find a new way to live.
Anyone who wants to stop using drugs may become a member of Narcotics Anonymous. Membership is not limited to addicts using any particular drug. Those who feel they may have a problem with drugs, legal or illegal, including alcohol, are welcome in NA. Recovery in NA focuses on the problem of addiction, not on any particular drug.
Our program of recovery begins with abstinence from all drugs, including alcohol. Sometimes people come to NA meetings while still using drugs, detoxing from drugs, or on drug replacement therapy. Regardless of what you may be taking when you first come to NA, you are welcome. NA’s primary approach to recovery is its belief in the therapeutic value of one addict helping another. Members take part in NA meetings by talking about their experiences and recovery from drug addiction. The NA programme is one of complete abstinence from all drugs, including alcohol.
Narcotics Anonymous is not a religious organization. It does teach basic spiritual principles such as honesty, open-mindedness, faith, willingness, and humility that may be applied in everyday life. Recovery in NA is a process, ongoing and personal. Members make an individual decision to join and recover at their own pace.
Our experience in NA is that those who keep coming to our meetings regularly stay clean.
Dingle NA meetings are on Tuesdays 7.30pm & Fridays 8.30pm, in the Dingle Presbytery, off Green St, V92 AT18. www.nasouth.ie NA helpline 087 – 138 6120

Who Really Owns Ireland? le
Matt Cooper foilsithe ag Gill Books
‘Who Really Owns Ireland?: How we became tenants in our own land - and what we can do about it.
Leading journalist Matt Cooper examines the key players behind the scenes of Irish property ownership - who really controls the valuable land where we live, work and play and how did they acquire it? Who are the new foreign investors and why are they buying property and land in Ireland? What does it mean for ordinary citizens when the ownership of shopping centres, wind farms, forestry and data centres comes from outside?
Comprehensively researched and filled with riveting detail, this compelling account of the Irish property landscape is about our offices, hotels and pubs and the power of those wealthy enough to accumulate these properties. This eye-opening book is a must-read for anyone interested in Ireland and who really owns it.’ - Gill Books

Ó Mhárthain
Breandán Mac GearailtBail ó Dhia oraibh. Is fada go raibh oiread sár eachtraí le tuairisciú againn. Gan dabht bhí na cluichí iomána agus caide ach ‘sé Féile na Bealtaine ina raibh 56 mír an réalt mullaigh, cuimhnigh ar rogha. Bhíodar ar fheabhas ar fad.
Níl aon amhras ach dá ndéanfá do sheacht mhíle dícheall is beag den iomlán mír a bheadh feiscithe agat. Bhí cór Gabor Peli tofa ar fad, iad i mbarr a réime. Tá an ceolfhoireann ar fheabhas chomh maith. Níl aon teora leis an sólás a bhaineann scata againn as cheol agus amhráin.
Bhíos i nDún Chaoin mar a raibh ceathar amhránaithe agus ceoltóirí agus caithfead a rádh go raibh an ceathrar thar barr ar fad. Amhráin agus ceol An Chláir a bhí acu. B’é Diarmaid De Faoite a chuir in aithne iad dúinn agus dúirt sé cupla amhrán é féin. Dúchas agus Dóchas a thugannn siad ar an dtionscnamh atá ar bun acu, ag cur amhráin Gaeilge an Chláir idir sean agus nua os comhair an phobail arís. Siad a bhí ar stáitse ná Nuala Kennedy, Philip Fogarty, Emer O’ Flaherty agus Therese McInerney. Dála an scéil bhí Tim Dennehy ann le cúpla amhrán Gaeilge a chasadh go binn. Caithfead a rá go raibh Dúchas agus Dóchas ard réimeach maraon le sásamh agus sólás ag baint leo.
‘Sé Muiris ó Fiannachta ó Bhaile ‘n Chóta a sheol an Fhéile.Thug sé chun cuimhne mar a thug Mícheál Ó Fionnáin an fhéile ar an saol triocha bliain ó shoin agus go bhfuil an bád fé lán tseoil ag a mhac Peadar. Beidh an Fhéile thart ach a mbeir á leamh.
Fear nách mór a lua ná Tomás Ó Lúing. Bhí sé ar a thriail agus ‘sé a bhí go séanmhar, seabhrach crua fhocalach agus sólás agus greann ag sní tré a raibh le rádh aige. Thug sé cúntas ar áiteanna áitiúla go cliste eolach agus cuir a éirim scéalta fiannaíochta a aithris draíocht ar a lucht éisteachta. N‘fheadar an bhfuil a leithéid sa tír. Ard fhear.
Chuir Lumina, ceol Eoin Duignan i séipéilín an Dísirt in ómós do Harry Clarke fé dhraíocht a lucht éisteachta chomh maith.
Caithfear a rá gurbh í an dea-aimsir, agus gáirdíní gleoite an Dísirt réalta an deireadh seachtaine, iad pleodaithe le daoine idir óg agus aosta ag baint sásamh as teas na gréine. Do té a bhogfadh isteach, bhí scata sár iarrachtaí ealaíona le scrúdú. mar Feic ‘s Fiche ag Dónal Ó Bríc. Fiche a haon radharc thaibhseach ar chruach Mhárthain. Fág fén sar ealaíontóir críochnúil é.
Ní ró-fhada ón gCruach bhí iomairí prátaí gan baint ná tógaint de thoradh síor shíon. Saothar grinn beacht le Áine ní Dhubhláine. Ansan bhí saothar dar teideal, Mórtas Cine ag Mick Davis, fear go bhfuil a éirim forleathan. Snasta. Agus Sa Mhór Thimpeall, saothar ag Anne Lundon, agus a grúpa dírithe ar an dtimpeallact. An- dheas.
Ní aon amhras go bhfuil An dochtuir Peadar agus a choiste thar a bheith sásta sóchmhar as an ngaisce.
CLG
Tá dhá dheire seachtaine againn ina raibh na hiománaithe ag breith an lae leo agus ansan an chaid.Tá éirithe le Ciarraí mar tás agat craobh sinsir caide na Mumhan a thabhairt leo agus an fhoireann fe 20 atá á n-oiliúint ag Tomás ó Sé agus tá éirithe go maith leis na Mionúir go dtí seo.
Tá na mná ag treabhadh iomaire na maitheasa sa chaid, agus thug na iománaithe sinsir fir, teaspáintais fónta dúinn cé gur bhuaidh Laois ortha, foireann go bhfuil an iománaíocht láidir ann le fada.
Idir an dá linn tá an- dhul chun cinn déanta ag iománaithe sinsir Chiarraí fe stúir Stiofán Mac Ionfraith.
Bhuaidh Loch Garman ar an nGailllimh. Mheas cách go mbeadh an lá leis an nGaillimh ach bhí an bhua go caithréimeach ag na Carmanaigh. Bhí Lee Chin agus an Conchúrach go diail ar fad.
Cé a bhéarfaidh craobh na hÉireann leo? Is mó duine a dearfadh Luimneach, ach tá An Clár agus Cill Chainnigh á searradh féin agus fonn agus fuadar ina ngnúis.
Sa chaid, dar liom gur dócha gur iad na Jeaicíní a thabharfaidh an sué leo. Gan dabht fair amach do Thír Chonaill, Doire, Ciarraí, tá siad ag súil le míorúilt. Poilitíocht
Tá poiliteoirí ar a mine -géar ag iarraidh tabhairt ar an bpobal vóta a chaitheamh leo. Bíonn spórt agus uaireanta cloch sa mhuirilte ag cuid dos
na hiomathóirí. Ní fada uainn na toghcháin, na cinn aitiúla agus toghcháin na hÉorpa ar an lá céanna agus é á thuar go mbeidh ollthoghchán sara mbeidh an bhliain istigh.
Fuair na Caomhaigh í Sasana a bheith acu an tseachtain seo caite sna toghcháin áitiúla, agus beidh Ollthoghchán ann sna míosa rómhainn agus fógrófar na Tóraithe chun donais, rud atá sean- thuillte acu.
Drámaíocht
Bhí Féile drámaíochta i Halla na Feothanaí le déanaí. Bhí an- fhreastal air agus bhí caighdeán scata dos na drámaí ar fheabhas. Gan dabht ‘sé Boscó Ó Conchúir agus a fhoireann bun agus barr na féile anso. Bhí drámaí ann ó Chois Laoi, Ceatharlach, Múscraí agus ár n-aisteoirí féin. Fuair Uinseann Ó Gormáin agus Bríd Ní Chriomthain Gradaim agus Seán de Prendergást. Ócáid fíor thaithneamhach.
Teach Siamsa na Carraige
Tá muintir an cheanntair an- bhailithe agus an gumh dearg ar scata go bhfuil Teach Siamsa na Carraige lé díol. Dar leo gur masla do mhuintir an cheanntair é agus ná raibh aon leithscéal don mbeartas úinéireacht Teach Siamsa na Carraige a scaoileadh an bóthar amach le úinéir príomháideach. N’fheaca oiread daoine chomh corraithe le fada.Tá plean fóirinte éifeachtach réitithe ag ionadaithe do mhuintir an cheanntair. Deir Cearta Sibhialta na Gaeltachta áitiúil gur masla tiarnúil an beartas an foirgneamh a scaoileadh le sruth ar son airgid bacach.
Bás
Fuair Seán Ó Grainbhéal a bhí ag cur fé sa Gróf bás le déanaí. Méala mor a bhás dá chéile Cáit, iníonacha Jacquí agus Michelle. gaolta agus cáirde. Soillse na bhFlaitheas ag a anam.
Fuair Máire Uí Dhubháin, (Gilroy), Cill Fhaoláin bás seachtain ó shoin. Ó Chluain Uí Ruairc i Liatroim í ó dhuchas. Bhí a fear céile Pádraig imithe chun na síoraíochta roimpi, trocaire air.
Méala mór a bás dá hiníon Lúcí,a beirt mhac Breandán agus Tadhg, dá gaolta agus a cáirde. Solas geal na bhFlaitheas ag a hanam macánta.
