Lios Póil Community Centre Fundraiser

€24,000 up for grabs in 2024 as Lios Póil launches raffle to fund community centre refurbishment works

An exciting community-wide project – aimed at upgrading the Halla John L. Ó Súilleabháin community centre in Lios Póil – is ramping up, with all eyes now turning to raising the funds needed to make the locals’ grand vision a reality.

Halla John L remains a source of pride locally. When it was built nearly 50 years ago, the facility was among the best of its kind in Kerry, and between then and now, it has served its purpose to a tee.

It’s understandably showing its age nowadays, and very significant work is required at the Garraí na dTor building. Since 2019, the community has been proactive in this regard, and a survey saw almost 70 per cent of households in the parish provide their views on what a replenished hall should look like.

Feasibility and planning processes have followed. But some €350,000 now needs to be sourced over the next four years to have the refurbished hall open in late 2026 or early 2027, before the local GAA club, CLG Lios Póil, hosts the 2027 Comórtas Peile na Gaeltachta on that year’s June bank holiday weekend.

Féile Lios Póil got underway over the August bank-holiday weekend and saw the launch of the club’s first major fundraiser, ‘Win 24k for 2024’. Tickets will remain available through the remainder of 2023.

On January 6, 2024, one lucky winner will scoop €24,000 to set them up for the year. Draws for smaller, monthly prices will also take place over the coming months - so the earlier you buy at ticket the better chance you have to win a prize.

Entry tickets will be available from local businesses and sellers involved with the Ionad Pobal Lios Póil company set up to oversee the hall project. Tickets can also be purchased online at ionadliospoil.com

You can buy one ticket for €20; three for €50; or nine for €100.

Further information is available from the following committee members:

The Narcotics Anonymous Message

An addict, any addict, can stop using drugs, lose the desire to use and find a new way to live.

Anyone who wants to stop using drugs may become a member of Narcotics Anonymous. Membership is not limited to addicts using any particular drug. Those who feel they may have a problem with drugs, legal or illegal, including alcohol, are welcome in NA. Recovery in NA focuses on the problem of addiction, not on any particular drug.

Our program of recovery begins with abstinence from all drugs, including alcohol. Sometimes people come to NA meetings while still using drugs, detoxing from drugs, or on drug replacement therapy. Regardless of what you may be taking when you first come to NA, you are welcome. NA’s primary approach to recovery is its belief in the therapeutic value of one addict helping another. Members take part in NA meetings by talking about their experiences and recovery from drug addiction. The NA programme is one of complete abstinence from all drugs, including alcohol.

Narcotics Anonymous is not a religious organization. It does teach basic spiritual principles such as honesty, open-mindedness, faith, willingness, and humility that may be applied in everyday life. Recovery in NA is a process, ongoing and personal. Members make an individual decision to join and recover at their own pace.

Our experience in NA is that those who keep coming to our meetings regularly stay clean.

Dingle NA meetings are on Tuesdays 7.30pm & Fridays 8.30pm, in the Dingle Presbytery, off Green St, V92 AT18. www.nasouth.ie

Berry, Berry Good Reasons to Eat Our Native Superfood!

When it comes to Superfoods we can be quick to fork out big bucks for some exotic plant from far, far away that promises to be the elixir of life. The stuff growing around us since the year dot is often overlooked in favour of the new kid in town! There is no official or legal definition for "Superfoods" but it has become a bit of a buzz word in the area of food and health. Under EU legislation the use of "Superfood" in food labelling is not allowed unless it is accompanied by an authorized health claim that explains to the consumer why the product is good for their health. Despite this, the term is still flaunted making some foods super attractive for those seeking super health. Goji berries, moringa, acai berries, matcha tea are some of the newly crowned Superfoods but we do not have to travel so far to find a food that is truly super and growing in our own backyards. Blackberries have been with us for over 2000 years providing us with a source of food and medicine with its briars' protecting us from would-be marauders. Although their thorns may not have been enough to keep out the pillagers, their nutritional profile packs an impressive punch that ranks them among some of the most super of foods in the world. Along with other dark-skinned fruits such as blueberries, plums and cherriesblackberries contain exceptional amounts of anthocyanins - a group of antioxidants particularly beneficial for arthritic conditions. Pure cherry juice is now a popular and effective remedy for gout but back in the 18th century blackberries were also referred to as goutberries such was the high regard in which they were held among the inflamed aristocrats across Europe. What we know now is that anthocyanins are powerful anti-inflammatories that can dissolve uric acid crystals which build up inside the body, causing the gout symptoms of pain and inflammation. While cherries seem to have hogged the limelight, blackberries have a higher concentration of anthocyanins and can offer some seasonal relief for this common ailment.

The timing of the blackberry season reflects Nature's way of giving us what we need when we need it. Anthocyanins and other antioxidants found in blackberries are noted for protection against the harmful effects of UV sunlight. Lutein and Zeaxanthin have long been proven to protect our delicate eyes from macular degeneration and damage caused by sun rays and other sources of UV radiation. Blueberries are a well-known source of lutein and zeaxanthin but our native blackberries do the job just as well. All antioxidants found in Nature offer a wide range of anticancer and anti-aging properties, primarily by their ability to protect and repair our DNA from the daily onslaught of free radical damage - which is involved in the onset and progression of cancer, aging, inflammation and neurological diseases.

Tannins in blackberries help reduce intestinal inflammation, alleviate haemorrhoids and soothes the effects of diarrhoea. The gut also benefits from its fibre content of 8g per cup which amounts to more fibre than a cup of bran flakes. Unlike bran, the fibre in blackberries helps lower

cholesterol too, making this a heart-friendly fruit relevant to a nation plagued with cardiovascular problems. Its sweetness comes from xylitol, a sugar alcohol found in the fruit fibre. This type of sugar is absorbed more slowly and does not cause rapid fluctuations in blood sugar levels, making it a guilt-free treat for diabetics too. Since heart disease, cancer and diabetes are the top three killer diseases in our country it is no wonder blackberries are so prolific!

The New Year, 2022 was welcomed all around the world with much jubilation. And from near and far, greetings and messages of goodwill were shared at home and online, through different social media at the dawn of a new year at various times in different hempispheres.

The leaves too have much to offer. Ancient Greeks were known to chew blackberry leaves to relieve bleeding gums and mouth ulcers. Native Americans (as did our own medicine folk) used them as a poultice for wounds, rashes and insect bites. Sore throats can be soothed by gargling blackberry leaf tea and women's woes were traditionally treated with blackberry juice, noted for its ability to regulate menstruation, support blood clotting and act as a muscle relaxant.

NOLLAIG NA MBAN

Women's Christmas, Nollaig na mBan sometimes called Little Christmas falls on the 12th day of Christmas, 6th. January.

In olden times the women took a rest on Nollaig na mBan and the men of the family cooked the meal for the family.

In the Christian Calendar this is the Feastday of the Epiphany when the 3 Wise Kings came from the East to Visit the Child Jesus in Bethlehem. 3 candles lighting on a window on that night is a tradition upheld in some homes to this present day, guiding the 3 kings to the Child Jesus.

1911 Census Miscellany in West Kerry

The 1911 Census contains mistakes, mischief and omissions relating to names, ages, gender, spelling along with other miscellaneous matters. Sex. Four members of the Royal Irish Constabulary were based in Gortmore, Ballyferriter, in 1911. Their names were not recorded for security reasons, just their initials, rank, place of birth, background and marital status.

In the R.I.C. station there was a sergeant, aged 47, who was married and a farmer’s son from Cork. There were three constables; one aged 27, single and a former gardener from Clare; another aged 23, single and a farmer’s son from Cork, and the third was aged 21, single and a policemen’s son from Tipperary. So what’s the point of this information you’re wondering.

Under the heading ‘Sex’ (gender) on the printed Census form the four men are recorded as being ‘Female’. Now, was the person who transcribed the original hand-written census form to the printed version overworked, drunk or just being mischievous?

But Ballyferriter wasn’t alone in this type of ‘erroneous’ transcription. The contagion spread to the Cloghane area, to the townland of Slieveadrehid where three more R.I.C. personnel were stationed. Again no names just initials.

The acting sergeant was aged 39, son of a Coast Guard station officer, from Donegal and married. One of the constables was 24, single and from Cork. The other was 22, single and from Mayo. The three of them were recorded as being ‘Female’ under the heading ‘Sex’ on the census form. How did this come about? Was the same person transcribing the handwritten forms from West Kerry?

Clogher. Moving on, but not too far from Gortmore, to the townland of Clogher. Joseph Hoare, 76, and his wife Catherine, 82, had nine grandchildren, according to the printed census form. Eight of them were recorded as ‘Grand Daughters’. But four of the nine grandchildren were boys. Very strange.

Finally, under this theme, we move to the townland of Coumgagh (Kilmalkedar), where retired farmer John Fitzgerald, 77, was living in the home of his relative Patrick Connor, 45. But the transcriber recorded John as Patrick’s ‘Sister-in-Law’. Having correctly recorded John as a male relative the transcriber should have known John was not female even if the hand-written entry was smudged. OK. Let’s move on to something entirely different such as unusual first names.

Mauriel. The transcribed census form has recorded the Master of Dingle Workhouse in 1911 as Mauriel Neligan. It just doesn’t sound right, does it? Mauriel is not a very common first name but, believe it or not, the name does exist.

It may be French in origin. It is extremely rare and recorded as a boy’s first name mainly in Brazil. But the transcriber got it wrong again. The name should of course be Maurice Neligan and must be recorded as a genuine mistake.

As an aside – Maurice had a son named John who was born in the Workhouse on April 7, 1888. In adult life he was a Captain in the Royal Army Medical Corps and was killed on active service on June 13, 1917, during the

Great War, in Egypt. He was aged 28 and was buried in a military cemetery in Port Said, not far from the entrance to the Suez Canal.

Sarsfield. Most Irish people are probably aware of the name Patrick Sarsfield, a key figure in the Jacobite army during the Williamite War in the late 17th century. He was regarded as a great soldier and patriot. Anyway, we’re not going to review his life but we will look at the name.

The catalyst for this piece was a young lad recorded in the Census whose name was Sarsfield Murphy. He lived with his mother Ellen, 46, a widow and shopkeeper in the townland of Ballyarkane Oughter, (Lack), He was born in America and was aged 13.

That’s as much as we know about him but what of the name Sarsfield? The consensus is that it is a habitational name taken from a village in England. There was a Spanish General named Pedro Sarsfield, believed to have been a descendant of Patrick Sarsfield.

Also, there was an Argentine solicitor and politician named Dalmacio Valez Sarsfield. More? There was an America destroyer named Sarsfield which is now a museum. Alright – just one more. There is a football club in Buenos Aires named Atletico Velez Sarsfield, possibly named after the politician above.

Catlicks. John Shea, 45, and his wife Bridget, 35, lived in Holy Ground, Dingle. They had been married for eight years and recorded six children living.

However, only five of their children were in the house on Census night. Perhaps the sixth child was visiting a relative or friend. But there was a sixth child in the house. Her name was Kate Shea, aged 16, and she was recorded as a relative. She was born on the Great Blasket.

The hand-written census form recorded that all those in the house were ‘Catlicks”. The enumerator, Constable Richard Long, should have corrected that when checking the form. Likewise, whoever transcribed the form to the printed version should have corrected the spelling but probably decided to leave it for the craic.

As a matter of interest, when were the hand-written Census forms from 1901 and 1911 transcribed to the modern printed form? That question was put in an email to the National Archives recently by this writer.

The reply stated, “I’m afraid I don’t have a definitive answer for you”. Unbelievable.

Tourism Talk and Thoughts from the Dingle Peninsula

Caroline Boland

A chairde, throughout August, we continue to need your help please? Please continue to advice visitors to enjoy the Slea Head drive experience by following the signs and driving in a clockwise route (one way) from Dingle town. Please advise them to follow Kerry County Council’s local signage and NOT their Sat Navs or Google Maps for Slea Head. Visitors will not be aware that locals living on the Slea Head route, particularly from Chill Mhic an Domhnaigh to Fahan, can drive as normal against the flow of visitor traffic. So please, if you have the chance or opportunity to speak with visitors, can you please recommend that they drive on the lefthand side of the road to ensure that they do not meet local traffic coming against them. Míle buíochas.

As part of National Heritage Week , the Annascaul Historical Society launched their Coiscéim na Saire – a wonderful historical trail of the village of Annascaul. The trail of 16 Valentia Slate flagstones through the village display text and images of the locations of various trades and activities providing an outstanding example of a nineteenth century rural village. “The Heritage Walks with John, Laurence and Justin bring you through the parish to discover a forgotten mill, hear of flax fields, goats and oats, bridges and fords, milk cans and ogham stones, railways and roads, safe houses and arms dumps in the footsteps of Annascaul’s history”. The theme for this year’s National Heritage Week is Living Heritage and the Annascaul Heritage Trail reflects this, allowing locals and visitors to explore the traditions and practices, knowledge and skills passed down through generations. Guided tours by the Society are offered on Bank Holiday Mondays and special events. For more information, follow Annascaul Historical Society on Facebook.com/annascaulhistorical

News from Dingle Hub

Chorca Dhuibhne Tourism & Hospitability SEC

We were delighted to have Declan Meally and three others from the Sustainable Authority of Ireland (SEAI) visit the Dingle hub last week. Fáilte Ireland, Údaras na Gaeltachta, Kerry County Council and UCC also joined us for a day of discussions on the Dairy Farmers SEC, the Dingle Peninsula Sustainable Mobility Pathfinder and the Tourism and Hospitality SEC. The biggest question we raised with Declan is once we finalise our energy master plan for the tourism sector on the peninsula, how will they help us when it comes to implementing these recommendations? We were keen to let him know that we will be acting on recommendations and that we are an active group of over 120 members.

Whale Watch Ireland

Saturday 19 August, 2pm - 4pm

Clogher Head, Dingle Peninsula: Meet at Lay-by

This annual event, now in its 21st year, comprises free and guided whale watches at local headlands or vantage points, as part of All-Ireland whale watch day. These simultaneous land-based watches at 19 locations around the Irish coast provide IWDG researchers with a unique overview of whale and dolphin activity on the day; and as Citizen Scientists you can play your part.

While there are no guarantees of sightings, given reasonable weather you have a good chance of seeing some of the varied marine species that can be viewed locally. You should dress appropriately for the weather conditions on the day. Please note, there are no boats involved and no bookings necessary. There may be a short elevated walk from the meeting point to your watch site, so sensible footwear is recommended. You should bring binoculars, your sense of humour and refreshments. Please leave your pets at home.

This event is suitable for all ages and is aimed at everyone from the novice wildlife enthusiast to more experienced naturalist with an interest in biological recording. In the event of unsuitable weather your watch leader may decide to cancel your local event. Limited car parking nearby, and a short walk to watch site. Site is not wheelchair accessible. Please note you will not be able to drive up to the watch area. Check in with your watch leader, whose details are provided below, if more details required.

Thomas O'Donnell, Slieve West Camp was born 4th March 1939 and left this world on the 29th July 2023 the same date as the birth of his first child 52 years ago. He was fondly known by his many friends as "Cutty".

His parents, Tom Mick and Kathleen raised a large family of 5 boys and 4 girls. Dad has now joined his parents and predeceased siblings Michael, Betty, Dora, Jerry, Sean & Peggy.

Growing up, farming was in his blood so it's no wonder that it was to be a big part of his own life.

He did not have to travel far to meet the love of his life, Maura (Curtin) only 2 miles back the road to Lougher. They married in 1970 and together worked the farm and raised a large family of 15; 9 boys and 6 girls. One of his many saying was " a life without a wife is no life at all".

Dad was well known at local marts, fair days, sitting by the bar having a chat with friends about the price of sheep or cows or to many a stranger on how their holiday was going, he definitely had the gift of the gab, and in most recent years travelling in the bus when he went for his few pints of Guinness. He always wore a suit , a shirt with long sleeves only but the sleeves had to be rolled up above the elbows, a short sleeve shirt was never worn, a sleeveless pullover and of course his flat cap and stick were his trademark. One of many fond memories of dad as a youngster was him arriving home from having his few pints he would always bring the 2 bottles of minerals and 15 bags of taytos and we would often run up the hall when we heard him open the front door just so we could dig in, there was also the large box of refresher sweets on children's allowance day.

He loved when family would come in and chat about the day in the mart and what animals they bought, or what was going on in the farm what cow calved or sheep lambed, who they met in the local shop or village, who got married, talking about family connections, chatting with the grandkids about school or just watching them play, sitting with mom having a cup of tea with a bit of fried liver and moms homemade bread. His family meant everything to him and the feeling was very mutual. He made many friends over the years and a testament to this was the long queue of people who came to say goodbye to a man who was honest, hardworking, fair, who never held a grudge and who was always there to help a neighbour in need.

His final journey saw a trailer of sheep at the entrance to Inch graveyard, a fleece of wool placed on top of the coffin before his family took turns to fill in the grave with shovels as he did many times himself for friends and family who left this world in years gone by.

A sing song, a few pints of Guinness and a lot of tears were shed at his final resting place as the rain drops fell and his wife, his 18 grandchildren, his great grandson, his brother Pat and sister Mary all placed a single red rose as their final farewell for a husband, a father, a brother, a grandfather, a great grandfather, an uncle and a friend to many.

A man who cannot be replaced and never be forgotten.

The Growth of the LGFA

McCarthy’s Bar, dingle

THURSDAY 24 AUGUST 9.00PM SHARP

Dublin Ladies have won the All Ireland Ladies final as they beat Kerry 0-18 to 1-10. Hannah Tyrell kicked 8 points as she inspired Dublin to their first title since 2020.

Kerry, trailing by nine points with 50 minutes on the clock, cut the gap to just four following a Louise Ni Mhuircheartaigh inspired run of scoring but ultimately came up short in the end.

The game was watched by a crowd of 45,326 in Croke Park which reflects huge interest in the game, keeping with the recent trend of exponential growth in women’s Gaelic football at inter-county level

Football was played un-officially in Kerry during the years 1970 to 1973 with clubs taking part in carnival tournaments etc, just for fun. Towards the end of the 1973 during a carnival week in Banteer, Co Cork, Kerry and Cork were invited to play for a set of trophies. The game attracted a large attendance due to the fact that it was the first Ladies Football inter-county game in Munster. Kerry won by 5-10 to 4-11

More recently, when TG4 partnered with the Ladies Gaelic Football Association they had around 80,000 members. Now, it is as much as 200,000. Almost every GAA club in the country has a Ladies Football unit, whereas back in 2001, there was only 650 clubs affiliated with the LGFA, that’s up to over 1,400 now and rising all the time.

The average number of clubs per county has gone from 20 to 45 in two decades. By any metric, the past two decades have been a great success for Irelands fastest growing sport.

Speaking after the All Ireland Final on Sunday, Kerry joint manager Declan Quill said “years ago there was absolutely nobody at our games, to two weeks ago in Thurles was absolutely the crescendo of the support we’ve gathered”.

There’s no doubt that they will bounce back next year hoping to win their 12th Brendan Martin cup.

Ginger and Lemongrass Beef Skewers, Pickled Vegetable Salad

Mark Murphy, Dingle Cookery School

for the pickled vegetables

150ml water

100ml rice wine vinegar

50g sugar 1 shallot, sliced

2 spring onions, sliced

1 carrot, peeled and cut into thin strips

Take a little time to mix all ingredients together and marinate the beef ahead of time will allow all of the flavours to develop. You will love the heat from the chilli, ginger and turmeric and then the lemongrass and lime will balance everything and bring such a lovely freshness to the beef. Try these in the barbeque if you get a chance. I have included an easy pickle recipe here that can be used for so many ideas.

Serves 4

Ingredients

for the skewers

1-inch piece of ginger, peeled and diced

3 lemongrass stalks, out layer removed, finely chopped

1 red chilli, seeds removed and finely chopped

1 lime, zested and juiced

1 shallot, diced

½ inch piece of fresh turmeric, sliced

1 tsp. oyster sauce

dash of dark soy sauce

pinch of brown sugar

800g sirloin steak cut into large dice

dash of oil

¼ head of Chinese cabbage, shredded handful of green beans, or mange tout, sliced

Method

for the skewers (if using wooden skewers, soak them in water for 30 minutes or so)

Add the ginger, lemongrass, chilli, lime juice and zest, shallot and turmeric to a pestle and mortar or a blender. Blend this to a fine paste. Put the paste in a bowl, mix in the oyster sauce, soy sauce and sugar. Add the beef and mix well until the beef is coated. Allow this to marinate for at least 1 hour but if you have time, leave it overnight.

Once ready to assemble, place the beef and the marinade generously on the skewers.

To pickle the vegetables (this can be done the day before if needed)

Add the water, vinegar and sugar to a pot, bring all this to a boil. Place all the vegetables in a jar or a bowl, pour the liquid over the vegetables.

To cook the beef

Heat a griddle pan or a large pan. Once hot add a little oil and then add the skewers, brown on each side for about a minute or so, cook for about 6-7 minutes.

Divide the pickled vegetables between 4 plates, place some of the skewers to the side and serve.

Bain taitneamh as!

Film Review - Barbenheimer

Tom Ó Neachtain

Barbie

Barbie is the long-awaited film adaptation of the iconic toy-brand. The film centres on the idyllic, patriarchyfree world of Barbieland – a world where Barbies live their best life alongside their Kens. However, when Barbie (Margot Robbie) begins to feel negative emotion for the first time, she is forced to journey to the real world to discover what it truly is to be human.

Barbie absolutely lives up to the attention it has received before and after its release. The film has so much going for it: inspired design-work, soon-to-be iconic performances, admirable tackling of weighty themes, combining to make it a rare Summer blockbuster that pushes the boundaries of what a “big film” can achieve. There are too many standout cast members to mention, although Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling deliver two all-timer performances as the leads. Robbie manages to deliver both the childish antics in Barbieland and the resonant dramatic beats in the film’s second half, while Gosling is dementedly hilarious in his depiction of an insecure, emotionally stunted Ken. However, the film’s greatest strength, and weakness, is its discussion of relevant themes such as gender norms and systemic misogyny which feature heavily throughout. Writer/ Director Greta Gerwig has achieved a great feat in layering these depressingly divisive themes through the plot of a big-budget, escapist blockbuster. Although these themes are discussed with honesty and depth, the film too often seems to prioritise its messaging above all else, with the plot and jokes in the film’s

second half feeling like something of an afterthought. This dilutes Barbie’s fun-factor somewhat, though the warm-hearted humour and quotable moments throughout mean its destined to be remembered fondly for years to come.

Oppenheimer

Oppenheimer is Christopher Nolan’s latest film. The story charts the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the lead scientist responsible for the creation of the atomic bomb. Nolan manages to flip the biopic film formula on its head in many different ways throughout. The story shifts back-and-forth through Oppenheimer’s life in a non-linear fashion, a trick Nolan uses to great effect in many of his films. Though it takes a while to adjust to this technique, it adds greatly to the tension of the story, as the audience is given the chance to see the tragic ramifications of Oppenheimer’s many mistakes before we see him make them.

Similarly, Nolan looks at certain events in Oppenheimer’s life through both the scientist’s own perspective, which is filmed in sumptuous colour, and the perspective of the people around him, which is in black-and-white. This gives the audience both an insight into Oppenheimer’s emotions and thoughtprocess in the colour segments, and a more factual, less forgiving view of him in black-and-white. This was an ingenious creative decision by Nolan, showing the ways in which Oppenheimer’s own ego might have

allowed him to interpret his actions in a much more forgiving light. As with Barbie, the film is a technical achievement. The cinematography is affecting and grand in both the colour and black-and-white segments. Likewise, Ludwig Goransson’s gorgeous score is almost guaranteed to win next year’s Oscar. Cillian Murphy as Oppenheimer and Robert Downey Jr. as rival Lewis Strauss give the best performances of their careers, though the sheer quantity of great actors giving the film their all is phenomenal.

The film’s final scene, however, leaves the most profound impression. It puts the audience face-to-face with the horrifying consequences of Oppenheimer’s work, and proves definitively that Murphy is one of the finest actors of his generation. This scene, and the film as a whole, is a masterpiece in acting, writing, and direction.

July 21st of this year will go down as a huge film event. Barbie and Oppenheimer, both wildly hypedup films by acclaimed directors, were released on the same day. Barbie has already smashed the box-office, crossing the one-billion-dollar mark less than a month after its release. It’s managed to convince those who haven’t braved the cinema since Covid to come back, and rewarded them with a great time at the movies. Oppenheimer is more of a film fan’s film, but absolutely deserves to be seen en masse. Its engrossing story can appeal to anyone, and its three-hour runtime flies by. Both films are great achievements from all involved, and have given cinemas a much-needed boost in the rocky years since 2020.

It’s All In The Mind

Don't Worry, Be Happy

Something good is going to happen today : because good things happen all the time, we just don't notice them.

We are programmed with an inbuilt negativity bias. Negative experiences take root immediately, are stored in our implicit memory and get rolled out again and again. From an evolutionary perspective, those who paid attention to bad things around them were more likely to survive. This tendency to dwell on the negative more than the positive is the brain's way of protecting us from danger and keeping us safe.

Imagine this sceanario: you are out walking in a beautiful exotic place. The day is warm, the scenery is stunning, and you are in good company. You suddenly see a poisonous snake. The snake disappears immediately. Later, when asked about the walk, you remember the snake incident much more vividly than the beautiful day.

So, we attend to, learn from and use negative information much more than positive. The American psychologist Rick Hanson says " our mind is like velcro for the negative and teflon for the positive"

Negativity bias is deeply ingrained in human nature but doesn't always serve us well. Negativity bias helps us to survive but not to thrive.

Overcoming it and restoring some balance to our perspective requires practice.

We need to make a deliberate effort to focus on the good things that happen. In order to tilt the balance, we have to make a concious intention to win over our capacity for happiness.

Neuroscience has discovered that in order for a postive experience to register and be stored in our memory bank we must purposely invoke it and sustain it for at least 15 seconds. When you see a glorious sunset, savouring it for this length of time or more, will ensure that its impact will be reinforced.

By working on restoring balance, we can change our habits and cultivate a more positive mindset. This doesn't mean 'thinking positive', 'mind over matter' or suppressing our very real pain and suffering. It is simply opening to the whole of our experience, waking up to everything that is here : quieting the constant, grumbling and complaining mind and making space for and allowing time to savour, joy and happiness.

Snow Geese

Oh, to love what is lovely, and will not last! What a task to ask of anything, or anyone, yet it is ours, and not by the century or the year, but by the hours. One fall day I heard above me, and above the sting of the wind, a sound I did not know, and my look shot upward; it was a flock of snow geese, winging it faster than the ones we usually see, and, being the color of snow, catching the sun so they were, in part at least, golden. I held my breath as we do sometimes to stop time when something wonderful has touched us as with a match, which is lit, and bright, but does not hurt in the common way, but delightfully, as if delight were the most serious thing you ever felt. The geese flew on, I have never seen them again. Maybe I will, someday, somewhere. Maybe I won't. It doesn't matter. What matters is that, when I saw them, I saw them as through the veil, secretly, joyfully, clearly.

Annascaul Water Heritage Day

Sunday 20th August

Join us to celebrate Annascaul's water heritage - we will be exploring the wells and pumps of the village, investigating the water quality of the Annascaul River, and finding out about the controversial attempts to bring a clean supply of water to the village.

Ceathrú

After hours underground

There’s the platform at last Bright illuminated signs

To ground level

To daylight

But MIND THE GAP

What’s down there?

MIND THE GAP

I’m not sure I can do this

MIND THE GAP

It's deep dark and wide

MIND THE GAP

Maybe the next stop is nicer?

We will begin with a quick walk around the village to see some of the wells and pumps that once served Annascaul. We will also walk a short section of the Annascaul River Walk.

At the river, using pond nets and trays, we will go in search of pollution sensitive invertebrates. Using score cards, participants will be able to establish the quality of the water based on the colour coded Q value system used by the EPA / EU. Regular monitoring using this system rates the Annascaul as Q5, the highest score earning it the title of a blue dot river.

However, water quality in Annascaul was not always so good. For nearly thirty years, William Kane, the local doctor, campaigned to have a source of clean water for the village. The water in the village well was found to be polluted by sewage and unfit to drink. Letters, council minutes and newspaper reports reveal the struggle to overcome the reluctance of local politicians to respond to the problem. A presentation: Pillar Pump Politics, will be given in Hanifin’s Bar telling the story of Dr Kane’s campaign, and how drinking water finally came to the people of Annascaul.

Registration will be at Hanafin’s Bar on Annascaul’s Main Street from 11.00 a.m., with the walk beginning at 11.30. Prices are €5 for an individual and €10 for a family. The walk, river sampling and presentation should take about two and a half hours.

This event is organised by Annascaul Historical Society with support from the Local Authority Waters Programme Water Heritage Day Grants Scheme 2023.

Tráthnóna breá gréine a bhí ann agus an fharraige ina léinsigh, agus go deimhin deineadh seit a rince ar dheic an bháid le linn an turais. Bhain nach éinne ana-shásamh as na scéalta is blúiríní eolais a d’eachtraigh Siobhán go ríchumasach.

An tseachtain dá éis sin eagraíodh seisiún péinteála ana-thaitneamhach leis an ealaíontóir Laura Barry agus an tseachtain ina dhiaidh sin aríst chuamar ar thuras Gaeilge timpeall Dhrioglann an Daingin. Fuaireamar éachtaint ar stair an ghnó agus ar an tslí a ndeintear an gin is an t-uisce beatha, agus Muireann ina treoraí iontach againn. Dhein cuid againn na táirgí a thástáil lena chois sin.

D'éirigh thar barr leis an oíche Ardáin Oscailte anuraidh, agus bheartaíomar é a chur ar siúl aríst i ndeireadh mhí Iúil. Bhí slua maith i láthair i mbliana, agus idir cheol, fhilíocht is amhráin ar stáitse againn. Ár míle buíochas leis na héinne a bhí páirteach, agus le Tábhairne Mhic Cárthaigh sa Daingean a chuir na fáiltí geala romhainn ar an oíche.

Chuir an tsíon isteach ar an gcluiche rugbaí tag a bhí beartaithe an tseachtain ina dhiaidh sin, agus ar an tsiúlóid staire a bhí le bheith ar siúl an tseachtain seo a dh’imigh tharainn, ach baochas le Dia níor chuir sé aon chaduaic ar éinne a bhí i láthair don mBlaiseadh Beorach a bhí ar siúl againn i dTig Bhric ar an Riasc coicíos ó shin, mar a raibh cad é caint is cuileachta.

Ár míle buíochas leis na héinne a thacaigh leis na himeachtaí go nuige seo. Beidh fás agus forás ar chlár na bliana seo chugainn tá súil againn, agus tá fearadh na fáilte roimis aon tuairim a bheadh ag éinne i dtaobh imeachtaí.

Agus an t-alt seo á chur i gcló, beidh oíche mhór karaoke Gaeilge ar siúl i dTig Uí Chatháin ar an mBuailtín, Dé Céadaoin an 16ú Lúnasa, mar a mbeidh fáilte roimis nach aon tsaghas amhránaí, idir lon dubh is phréachán!

Ar an gCéadaoin 23ú Lúnasa a bheidh an imeacht dheireanach ar siúl. Beimid ag dul ar thuras seandálaíochta timpeall na leithinise i dteannta Bhilly Mag Fhloinn. Is deimhneach gur camchuairt fhíor-spéisiúil a bheidh inti, agus más mian leat a bheith i láthair ní mór clárú roim ré. Costas €7 a bheidh ar an dturas, agus is féidir áit a chur in áirithint ach r-phost a chur go dtí tdhuibhne@gmail.com, nó téacs a chur go dtí 0873769538.

Tá Comharthaí Feabhais Ann

Mícheál Ó hUanacháin

Cúig chluiche comórtais a bhí ag laochra sacair na Ríochta ó bhíomar ag trácht orthu cheana, sin agus cluiche carthanachta idir eatarthu. Agus d'éirigh leo dhá bhua a bhaint amach, agus comhscór amháin.

B'é Ryan Kelliher a scóráil, faoi dhó, ag druidim le deireadh an chluiche. Beidh lá mór eile ag na Ciarraígh sa Chorn an tseachtain seo nuair a bheidh Drochead Átha Aontaithe chucu sa Dara Babhta.

Ócáid stairiúil a bheidh ann, an chéad chluiche comórtais i gCiarraí ag club de chuid na príomh-sraithe.

I lár na seachtaine dar gcionn, chuaigh na Ciarraígh chun páirce i gCill Áirne in aghaidh Cheiltigh an bhaile sin i gcluiche i gcuimhne 'Doyler', a cailleadh deich mbliain ó shin. Bhain a raibh i láthair an-spraoi as an oíche, agus bailíodh airgead ar mhaithe leis an bhfeachtas in aghaidh ailse.

Togor Silong a scóráil aon chúl na hoíche, go gairid i ndiaidh an bhriseadh – ach níorbh é an toradh sprioc an chluiche áirithe san!

Tháinig Cláirsigh na Finne an bóthar fada go Trá Lí an Aoine ina dhiaidh sin, agus rug leo an trí phointe ar ais ó thuaidh go Tír Chonaill.

Dhá chomhscór a bhi eartarthu roimhe seo, agus ag deireadh an chéad leath ba chosúil go mbeadh comhscór eile ann, ach go gairid in ndiaidh an tsosa, thiomáin Ryan Flood an liathróid go dian trí láthair na bpíonós agus isteach san eangach baile.

Ní raibh ach ceithre nóiméad fanta sa choimhlint nuair a d'éirigh le Sam Aladesanusi a cheann a chur leis an liathróid tar éis chic chúinne agus an chothromaíocht a aimsiú. Ba bhriseadh croí dóibh an cúl deireanach ag na Cláirsigh, sa cheathrú nóimead den am cúiteamh gortaithe.

Trí chluiche eile in imeacht seachtaine a imríodh ag tús na míosa seo, as baile in aghaidh Phort Láirge, áit a raibh trí sheans maith ag Ciarraí go gairid i ndiaidh a chéile ag Matt Keane, Leo Gaxha agus Ethan Kos. Ach b'é Port Láirge a chuir snas ar na hiarrachtaí acu féin chun na trí phointí a bhreith le trí chúl mhaithe.

Fánaithe Chóbh a bhí mar chuairteoirí i dTrá Lí Luan na saoire, agus chuir Gaxha na Ciarraígh chun cinn sa chéad leath, ceannas a dhúbláil Ryan Kelliher tar éis an tsosa. Ach tháinig fir Chorcaí ar ais agus chinntigh siad an chothromaíocht le cic píonóis in am cúiteamh ghortaithe.

SENIORS: The Cromane senior football team will play Finuge in the second round of Group 1 of this year’s County Junior Football Championship.

Finuge lost to Tarbert last Sunday which means they now play Cromane. This means our third game will be away to Tarbert. We opened our junior championship campaign with a 0-11 apiece draw at home to Scartaglin the previous weekend.

MID KERRY MINORS: Five Cromane players were part of the Mid Kerry minor panel that played St Brendan’s Board in the county championship shield semi-final on Monday evening last in Currow.

Ben Sugrue, Conor Hayes Jack McGrath, Liiam Hayes, and Jamie Casey are all part of the panel along with a quartet of their GGC colleagues.

MID KERRY UNDER-15s: Well done to Cromane players Gio McCarthy and Oran Sheehan who are both part of the Mid Kerry under-15 panel. The team continued their fine form in the county championship campaign with a 3-12 to 1-7 win over St Brendan’s last Wednesday evening.

They were joined on the team by GGC teammates Tadhg, Aidan, and Sean. Well done all.

UNDER-13s: Central Region Division 6 semi-final:

Glenbeigh-Glencar/Cromane (GGC) 2-18, Na Gaeil 4-5

Well done to our under-13 maroon team who had an excellent win last Tuesday evening against Na Gaeil.

The sides were level entering the last couple of minutes but our lads finished stronger and went on to win by seven points.

This win means they have now qualified for the Central Region Division 6 final.

It has been a fruitful few weeks for the GGC under-13 sides as the previous week the red team qualified for the Central Region Division 2 final. They did so after a two-point win over Lios Poil/Annascaul after an enthralling game in Cromane.

UNDER-9s: Well done to our under-9s who played their latest Go Games in Beaufort last Tuesday evening. The sides played three matches with lots of skills on show and every child got a game which is the ethos of Go Games. Keep up the great work and keep practising.

BIG BIRTHDAY Jack Crean, Knockgloss beg celebrated his 70th birthday on Saturday night at The Junction Bar. A large gathering of family and friends turned out and a great night of music and crack was had by all. Jack's Godfather was amongst them. Paud Herlihy was the man who obliged John Crean when he turned up to Camp Dance Hall all those years ago looking for someone to drive his wife Margaret into Tralee to Mrs. King's Maternity Home to have her baby. And so the story goes that just East of Blennerville bridge near the basin, baby Jack Crean came into the world amidst great excitement. The young 22 year old driver, Paud Herlihy was to leave for England later that year to find work. Paud became a very successful mechanic and garage owner. So it was lovely to see Paud at the birthday celebrations for Jack on Saturday night, now 70 years later. All hail and hearty, Paud at 92 and Jack a very fit and healthy 70 years of age. And just a couple of days after her grandfather's 70th, on August 8th, Baby Riley Eabha Crean came into the world in University Hospital Kerry.

Born to Jack's son David and his partner Jenny, a cousin for Clara and a new addition to the Crean family.! Mother and baby are doing well. Congratulations David and Jenny.

Paddy Sayers and the Enright brothers came on to make the full Camp Minor team. Six of the team have now passed to their eternal reward RIP. After selecting his team, Paud decided to attend the GAA convention in Castlegregory and enter Camp Minors in the Castlegregory District League. The game was played in Castle GAA pitch. On the day the appointed referee failed to turn up and after finding it very difficult to get a replacement, Paud was asked to do the job and he accepted. There were no medals for the winners at the time, instead, they were presented with a football. Money was very scarce, no funds and the team was happy to go home with their football. It was a great achievement to beat the pick of the Castlegregory District which included Maharees, Castlegregory, Blennerville, Camp and St. Brendan's Cloghane. Cloghane pulled out of the league as they could not field a team on the day. It was the first and last time that a Camp Minor team competed in the District League. The Castlegregory District disbanded shortly afterwards and Camp amalgamated with Annascaul. The great football tradition in our parish has survived to the present day, a strong foundation laid by those young footballers of yesteryear. Long may it continue.

Grateful appreciation is extended to Paud Herlihy for the above Report.

GOLF SISTERS Congratulations to Marie McCarthy, Keelballylahive who won the Castlegregory Golf Club's Lady Presidents Prize recently. The trophy was presented to Marie by her sister Teresa Rice, Cappaclough who is currently the Castlegregory Golf Club's Lady President. Great achievement ladies! Well done, Marie! And good luck Teresa in your role, Lady President Castlegregory Golf and Fishing Club.

KERRY LADIES FOOTBALL Commiserations to Kerry Ladies who lost to Dublin in the All Ireland Final last Sunday. And Thank you to this great team, management and selectors, who lifted the spirits of the people of Kerry at home and in distant lands over the past year. Beidh lá eile . Comhghairdeachas le Baile Atha Cliath.

Solar Systems

Congratulations Jack, May you enjoy many more birthdays. Go maire tú an chéad!

Tom Kennedy

Solar..panels or tubes, what's the difference? Well they both provide hot water when heated by the sun’s energy, thus saving you energy, be it oil, gas or electricity.

A solar system will save up to 70% of your annual hot water bill. When it comes to tubes versus panels, the tubes are marginally more efficient than panels, but realistically the difference is small, especially when we have had such a great spell of sunshine.

There is another "solar system" known in the trade as "Thermodynamic" this is a solar panel that works in the dark. Yes with no sunshine, you ask how!

Well the answer is simple really, it's not a solar panel it's a heat pump. The way it works is a panel is fitted to your roof which is connected to a unit and cylinder in your hot press. This is a compressor similar to what's found in a fridge, this unit pumps a refrigerant gas into the panel where it heats due to the fact that the gas has a very low boiling point of about -25 Celsius so this hot gas comes back into the unit, where the gas is compressed to make it hotter, the heat is then transferred to create heat. However, this unit is dependant on electricity to operate so while saving money on heating hot water it does so at a cost.

Take for example a typical family home with 3 to 5 occupants, costs on average about €1,500 to €2,000 per year to heat, of which about a 1/4 to 1/3 of this is hot water, so a typical hot water bill for a family of 5 is somewhere in the region of €450 to €650 a year.

A solar system for a family of 5 can cost anything from €4,000 to €5,500 supplied and fitted, giving them a yearly saving of approx €350 to €500 and when you take into account the rising cost of energy, a system can pay for itself in 5 to 10 years.

CAMP FOOTBALL Paud Herlihy has a crystal clear memory of the day Camp Minors won the Castlegregory District League on 9th August 1953, 70 years ago this month. Score was Camp 4 gls- 7pts, Castlegregory 3 gls - 4 pts. Paud gave me a wonderful account of the lead up to the final and the local young men aged between 14 and 18 that Paud himself selected to play for their village team. It all began in the field below the well in Knockglossmore, when the Quirke brothers, Donal, Paddy and John got together with Paud Herlihy, Gene and Michael O'Driscoll and Martin Crean and had a kick around every evening after school. Paud was very impressed by these young lads and he decided he would put together a Minor Camp team. In order to make up a full team, Paud had to look further afield. Paud picked a few more promising local footballers, Pat Moynihan and John O'Donnell, Gleann na nGealt and a few lads from Derrymore, Pat McKenna,

‘Scéal é seo faoi chailín óg, Róisín, atá ag fás aníos i mbruachbhaile i mBaile

Átha Cliath, i gcaogaidí agus seascaidí an chéid seo caite. Cónaíonn sí lena hathair, a máthair, a deirfiúr Brídín agus a deartháir Con ar Bhóthar Castar, Raghnallach. Freastalaíonn sí ar scoil lán-Ghaeilge i lár chathair Bhaile Átha Cliath. Ach níorbh ionann Raghnallach an t-am sin agus anois, áit a luaitear le rachmas agus gustal. Meascán de aicmí éagsúla a bhí ann an tráth sin : an lucht oibre, an mheánaicme agus, go deimhin, na boicht. Diaidh ar ndiaidh, nochtar do Bhrídín gur mar seo atá cúrsaí agus nach mór di iarracht a dhéanamh aistriú ón aicme ina bhfuil sí chuig ceann eile. Ó Mhárthain

Breandán Mac Gearailt

Thit an lug ar an lag ar mhná Chiarraí ar an nDomhnach seo caite, in agaidh Bhleá Cliath. Bhí sé doilíosach angarach gan an lá a bheith ag na fearaibh a imir go maith ach ná raibh aon rian don ádh ortha. Bhí san go holc mar a deir an seana-scéal ach bhuail gach mí ádh na mná. Bhí cluiche maith ag an réiteoir. Faireadh Louise ó thalamh ach i ndeire an lae bhí báide agus sé phoinnte fachta aici. Caithfead a rá gur imir Niamh Carmody, Cáit Lynch, Niamh Ní Chonchúir, Hanna Ó Dhonchú, Louise Galvin, Síofra ní Shé agus Emma Costelloe, go maith. Ní raibh aon imreoir ró olc. Gan dabht bhuail tonn an mhí-áidh na mná seo againne ‘sé sin na ‘cynical fouls’, ná deineadh dada féna leath. Éireoidh siad arís, ach inár gcás táimid thíos le reacht calaois ná raibh móran déanta fútha. Dá gcuirfí cosc ar an ‘cynical fouls’ bheadh an lá le mná Chiarraí agus bheadh beirt nó triúr do fhoireann Bhleá Cliath curtha don ngort.

Caid

Bhuaidh Fosa go bog ar an nGaeltacht Dé Sathairn. Dhein an bheirt dearthár na Clúmhánaigh scrios.

Bhuaidh na Crócaigh le pointe suarach amháin ar an nDaingean.

Ráiseanna

Ní raibh an aimsir ró olc ag Ráiseanna Capall an Daingin ( Bhaile ‘n t-Sagairt). Ní raibh ar mo chumas bheith ann, gaolta ó Mheiriceá- dhá dhream, bail ó dhia ortha. Chuireas ceist ar chara dhom fés na ráiseanna dúirt dé go rabhadar go maith agus go raibh geall aige ar an gcapall a bhuaidh An Rás Mór. Bhuadhas oiread is a cheannódh leath dhosaen uibhe cearc’, ar sé go líofa. Corcaíoch measaim an t-úinéir.

Aimsir

Tá bogadh beag ar an aimsir ach ní mar sin in áiteanna eile. Tá gorta agus triomach in áiteanna san Afraic gan aon bhraon in áiteanna. I rith na seachtaine chuala scéal dá raghfá Kiloméadar fé thalamh ná beadh aon cheall uisce ort. Deir fear amháin go mbeadh an t-uisce sin millteach te ach is tapaidh a bheadh sé ag fuaradh más amhlaidh go bhfuil. Bheadh sábhailt na milliún duine agat.

Fleadh Ceoil

Is dócha gur é ceann dos na hócáidí is tarraingtí ná Fleadh Ceoil na hÉireann a bunaíodh measaim 1953 sa Mhuileann Gearr.Tá Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann ag bláthú bliain i ndiaidh bliana. Tá 420 craobh Comhaltais ann i gcúig tir déag agus i gcúig Mór-Roinn. Tá cuid mór don moladh ag dul do Labhrás ó Murchú atá i gceannas Chomhaltais é féin agus a shaigdiúirí ceoltach agus na céadtha a eagraíonn imeachtaí i gcian agus i gcóngar ins gach aird ar son an cheoil, Comhaltas agus an pobal.

Dhein TG4 aitheantas agus an Ceiliúradh ar Shéamus Ó Bheaglaoi le linn clár fen bhFleadh le onóir do Shéamus agus a mhuintir go bhfuil mianach an dea-cheoil snoíte ins gach ball dá chlann trócaire air, agus an dála céanna fíor féna dheartháir Breandán agus a chlann. Bail ó Dhia ortha.

Is iontach an sólás bheith ag éisteacht le ceol binn ó rogha na gceoltoirí agus na n-amhránaithe.

Amhrán

Bhuaidh Ellie Ní Shé ón gCeathrúin, Dún Chaoin craobh na hÉireann san amhránaíocht fé trí déag. Comhgháirdeas a Ellie. Tús maith.

Ceol an Pharóiste

Bhí oíche ceoil amhráin agus cleachtan an Máirt seo caite i Halla na Feothanaí. Dar fia ach go raibh na Francaigh ar stáitse agus togha an cheoil acu, mar a bíonn gach bliain. Bhi rogha na gceoltoirí agus amhránaithe ar na bacáin. Cuireann an ócaid cos eile sóláis ar fáil dúinn agus bainimíd sásamh as.

Laochra Fhéile Lios Póil

Rud a chuireann ag cuimhneamh mé ná, cé chomh tapaidh is a théann iomathoirí go barr an Struicín. Tá an Struicín an-ghéar ach tá muintir Lios Póil lán do cheol rud atá siad lem chuimhne agus scata romham.

Deinimíd cómhgháirdeas le Máire Uí Shúilleabháin a roghnaíodh mar Ard Phearsa Ban an pharóiste i mbliana. Bail o Dhia uirthi mar is mó slí a dhein sí gaisci don bpobal. B’é John Joe Ó Deargáin a fuair Gradam, Pearsa Fir an Pharóiste a bhí tuillte aige. Is maith iad.

Toghcháin

Tá an ionramháil ag ealó orainn. Tá gach Teachta Dála ag cur agus ag cúiteamh conas mar a bheidh acu. Tá cuid acu agus dá mbeadh dhá mhadra ag bruíon bheadh siad ag caint air agus fuadar futha.

Cé a bheidh i gceannas FF agus FG i dtoghchán na Dála? I lár tíre tátar ag meá an cheart Páirtí fé leith Neamhspleáigh a bhúnú ach is leir ná fuil gach teachta Neamhspleách sásta leis sin. Nuair a cuireadh an cheist ar Mhichael agus Danny Healy- Rae an mbeadh suim acu in a leithéid? Cloisim go ndúradar ná raibh aon chuimhneamh fén spéir acu bheith bainteach le aon pháirtí ná pairtí Neamhspleach, agus a gceart féin acu. Abhar gur fiú a phlé an mbeidh a leithéid do phairtí ann dóibh siúd a bheidh ag seasamh ar liosta don nDáil, an Seanad fiú an Comhairle Contae oír tá a thábhacht féin ag baint le gach dream acu.

Coimeadfam ar an eolas tú. Dála an scéil beidh breis teachtaí sa chéad Dáil eile.

Bás

Fuair comharsa dhom bás an tseachtain seo, b’é sin Roibeárd de Lóndra a saolaíodh i Márthain agus a mhair ann go bpós sé, agus ansan chuir sé agus a bhean chéile fútha i gCathair Builg agus tá ann ó shoin .

Fear socair sibhialta, deas lámhach ná raibh an drochfhocal aige do éinne. Méala mor a bhás dá mhac Seán a dheartháracha Jeaic agus Mícheál agus a dheirfiúr Máire, a ghaolta agus a chairde.

Solas na bhFlaitheas ag a anam.

Fuair Helen Ní Chonchúir ó Chnoc na hAbha agus ón nDaingean bás le déanaí. Méala mór a bás dá hiníonacha Karen agus Síle agus mac Greagóir, deirféaracha Marian agus Bernadine, gaolta agus cáirde.

Gur i bhFlaitheas na nGrást a hanam.

Fuair Jackie Rayel ón nDaingean bás seachtain ó shoin. Fear macanta. Méala mor a bás dá ghaolta agus a chairde.

Soillse na bFlaitheas ag a anam caoin.

Onóir agus Carthanacht
