Dingle Film Club Open to Everyone Tuesday Nights 8.45pm

The feature at the Dingle Film Club on Tuesday 3rd April will be the period drama Phantom Thread, film written and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, set in London’s couture world in 1954. renowned dressmaker Reynolds Woodcock (Daniel Day-Lewis) and his sister Cyril (Lesley Manville) are at the center of British fashion, dressing royalty, movie stars, heiresses, socialites, debutants, and dames with the distinct style of The House of Woodcock. Women come and go through Woodcock’s life, providing the confirmed bachelor with inspiration and companionship, until he comes across a young, strong-willed woman, Alma (Vicky Krieps), who soon becomes a fixture in his life as his muse and lover. Ther following week on Tuesday 10th April the feature will be the romantic comedy Finding Your Feet. When ‘Lady’ Sandra Abbott discovers that her husband of forty years is having an affair with her best friend she seeks refuge in London with her estranged, older sister Bif. The two could not be more different - Sandra is a fish out of water next to her outspoken, serial dating, free-spirited sibling. But different is just what Sandra needs at the moment, and she reluctantly lets Bif drag her along to a community dance class, where gradually she starts finding her feet and romance as she meets her sister’s friends.

Taispeántas Ealaíne na Cásca 2018

Le Bríd Ní Mhóráin Satharn Cásca 31 Márta 12.00pm – Dé hAoine 6 Aibreán Taispeántas sárthaithneamhach, ardtarraingteach, ilghnéitheach, ildathach, ilmheán a bheidh le feiscint le linn Taispeántas Ealaín na Cásca in Áras Bhréanainn i mbliana. Cífidh tú iontaisí na ndúl, an fhiadhúlra agus an fhásra ann, gheobhaidh tú amharc ar an dtréimhse réamhstaire chomh maith le éachtaint ar shaol, ar sheandálaíocht agus ar chultúr na nDuibhneach ó leag na Ceiltigh cos ar an leithinis don gcéad uair anuas go dtí ár linn féin mar a bhfuil an scannán, Cogaí na Réalt, go mór i mbéal na ndaoine. Buailfidh tú le roinnt de na pearsana is mó le rá a mhair sa dúiche, i bhfoirm phortráid Tom Crean agus Pheig Sayers, agus a thuilleadh nach iad, gaiscígh go mairfidh a gcáil go brách. Mar dhuine nach bhfuil aon chur amach agam ar an ealaín, chur na saothair dhifriúla aoibhneas ar mo chroí lena n-áilleacht agus le scil is cumas na n-ealaíontóirí, gach duine ina s(h)lí fein ag cur cló is cruth ealaíonta ar an inspioráid agus ar spreagadh na samhlaíochta. Níl aon teora leis na hamhábhair a mbaineadar úsáid astu chun a smaointe a ionchollú, gan trácht ar na priontaí digiteacha agus na cleasa draíochta a dhein baill John of God agus grianghrafadóirí eile leis an gceamara. Scáthán don nádúr atá sa taispeántas. Díreach ar nós nach féidir imeacht ó chumhacht agus anáil na ndúl sa cheantar - (cuimhnigh ar Emma, Ophelia agus a sórt) tá a lorg go soiléir ar na saothair atá ar taispeáint. Deinim amach go bhfuil an fharraige agus na háiteanna ina mbuaileann sí leis an dtráigh, le haill nó le carraig, bíodh sí ina calm nó stoirm uirthi, chomh maith leis an mbeatha go léir a chothaíonn sí agus an bia mara a sholáthraíonn sí, an ghné aiceanta is coitianta a léirítear. Tá so le haithint ar na logainmneacha, na teidil agus na téamaí go ndeintear staidéar orthu, m.sh. tonnta, taoide, faill, scoilt, inis, béal átha, dún, cé, bá, cuan, borrthaí &rl. Tá iontaisí na doimhne ina steillbheatha i míolta ollmhóra dronnacha mara in íle ag Emilia Varsanyi agus i ngrianghraf Richard Creagh; an bhainirseach is a héan múnlaithe go seiftithe ag Lynn Stratton i gcré agus dhá staidéar bhreátha déanta ag Karen Flannery ar an bhfiolar mara. Cé nach éin mhara atá sna fáinleoga atá leathshlí ar a n-odaisé thar muir is thar tír chughainn ón Afraic Theas, fé láthair, is léir go dtógann a bhfuadar ard is a bhfothragadh fuinniúil, croí agus aird na n-ealaíontóirí, - Bob Ó Cathail a chuireann a neitilt fuinniúil in iúl trí mhearbhall dathanna agus foirmeacha agus Eileen Lynch ó Ghairdín Mhuire atá tógtha leis an éan céanna. Tá bailiúchán Ghairdín Mhuire agus na grúpaí pobail eile lán de bhrí i mbliana agus is mór mar a chuireann siad leis an dtaispeántas. Táim an-thógtha leis an stíl sainiúil a chleachtaíonn Syra Larkin, stíl atá á forbairt aici ó lonnaigh sí sa Mhachaire, i 1977. Tugann sí léargas dúinn ar thionchar na farraige ar a samhlaíocht agus a feidhm i saol mhuintir na háite sna pictiúirí aicrileacha ‘On a Fishing Line’ agus ‘The Musician’s Hoard.’ Diúltaíonn Syra do lipéad, ar nós osréalach nó impriseanaíoch b’fhearr léi ligint don smaoineamh nó don spreagadh mothálach é féin a nochtadh insa chuma is fearr a réitíonn leis, ar an gcanbhás.

Má tá dúil agat i mbreac, ná téigh go dtí an dtaispeántas agus ocras ort mar cuirfidh an tábhar neamhbheo, ‘Mackerel for Tea’(Andrea Power) agus an dá phictiúr le Jenny McCarthy, dúil bhréan ionat tabhairt futhu le scian agus forc táid chomh réadúil!

tonn í go samhlófá diamhracht thar bearta léi, borradh a éiríonn in airde go frathacha Neimhe cosúil le hólaí ón Saol Eile i gceann de na scéalta béaloidis. Ach cé go bhfuil sí diamhair, cuireann sí áilleacht osnádúrtha éigin inár láthair, chomh maith. Thaitneodh The Last Wave le Danny, gan aon amhras, agus bheadh sé buíoch as an ómós. Fé mar a tharla sé, nach raibh Danny féin páirteach le hÁine Uí Dhubhshláine i ‘Siombail,’bailiúchán íomhánna deartha ag peann luaidhe Áine de thoibreacha éagsúla ar fud Chorca Dhuibhne, Chiarraí agus Bhaile Mhúirne. ‘Sé Danny a scríobh ainmneacha na dtoibreacha ina pheannaireacht álainn shuaithinseach. Shínigh an bheirt acu an saothar, Áine ar an 3 Márta, 2017 agus Danny ar an 8ú den mhí chéanna.

Pic. Cruach Mhárthain le Pádraig Ó Mathúna Is cuimhin liom cara ón Iodáil a bheith ag déanamh iontais des na hathraithe a thagann gan aon stad ar an solas in Éirinn. Léiríonn Niall Naessens an t-iontas céanna san eitseáil ina bhfuil an t-ealaíontóir ag tabhairt éirí na gréine os cionn Chathair Chonraoi fé ndeara. Pléascann an ghile ó mheall na gréine ina línte fuinniúla dearga trasna na spéire, anoir thar Bhá Thrá Lí go dtí pé ball den Leitriúch ina bhfuil sé féin ina sheasamh. Léiriú téibí ar sholas an gheimhridh i ndubhacht dathuisce atá curtha os ár gcomhair ag rannpháirtithe Tearmainn ina nGrúpobair. N’fheadar cén séasúr nó cén t-am den lá a spreag Cruach Mhárthain Pádraig Ó Mathúna chun dul i mbun scuaibe ach rug sé ar dhraíocht na gile os a cionn chun íomhá shuaimhneasach den sliabh, dá sleasa agus den dtimpeallacht a chruthú. Ina ghrianghraf de Thigh Solais an Daingin, cuireann Jaro Fagan míorúilt lonrach spéir na hoíche, lasta ag Bealach na Bó Finne, ar na súile dúinn.

Bheadh cuimhne ag scata daoine ó Mham Cualach siar go Dún Chaoin ar mheitheal na móna, gné den stair anois ó tá an bhéim ar fad ar an inmharthanacht agus ar an bhfuinneamh inathnuaite ach, cé gur fánach an té a bhaineann móin fé láthair, níl deireadh leis an bportach mar fhoinse inspioráide. Úsáideann Máire Uí Bhroin feilt lámhfhuaite chun poll portaigh a chruthú, athchruthaíonn Liam Ó Néill atmaisféar na meithle ar an bportach. Don gcéad uair tá taipéis ar taispeáint ag Lisbeth Mulcahy le linn na féile. Dhein Lisbeth féin cur síos ar fhoinse a hinspioráide. Chonaic sí creatlach eilc mhór na hÉireann sa Mhusaem Náisiúnta den Stair Nádúrtha. Bhí sí an-thógtha leis an ndraíocht atá sna hiarsmaí sa phortach a chiallaíonn dúinn go leanann an saol ar aghaidh i gcónaí. Bíonn sí ag súil an draíocht sin a thaispeáint ina saothar. Sa taipéis, tá cruth mór an chnoic taobh thiar dá tigh, pictiúr den oíche, an ghealach is an domhan ar snámh sa chruinne, an t-iomlán fite fuaite ina chéile. Uaidh sin a rith an teideal Taibhreamh an Phortaigh chuici. ‘Is maith liom na dathanna, defined areas of colour. Deinim amach cartún de réir scála ar dtús, gan dathanna. Bíonn na dathanna á leagan amach im cheann. Ansan, deinim an obair go leanúnach ó bhun go barr ach deinim gach píosa ina aonar. An rud is tabhachtaí dom, an dtaitníonn sé liom, an mbraithim go bhfuil sé ag taispeáint an smaoinimh atá agam agus cad a chíonn sibhse ann.

Pic. Jaro Fagan Tá saothar teibí meán measctha le Silke Michels a chuaigh i gcion go mór orm. Fógraíonn na duilleoga feoite ar bharra an phíosa agus an figiúr dubh is bán thíos futhu ( más figiúr é?) a bhfuil snáithín bán á cheangal le mála gur am leochaileach an athraithe atá ann, A Delicate Time of Change. Tá na codanna éagsúla den gcruthú fíneálta so fuaite le chéile go gleoite, gan cháim, sa tslí go spreagann an t-iomlán fiosracht i dtaobh an tsiombalachais atá taobh thiar de. Tá an mealladh fíneálta céanna i ngraifít agus ór ar pháipéar cadáis ag Kate Buckley insa phictiúr álainn, Living Vessel. Dheineas trácht sa chéad alt ar ghaiscígh Dhuibhneacha; sa chomhthéacs so, is cuí go dtabharfaí Danny uasal Mac an tSíthigh, beannacht Dé leis, chun cuimhne mar gur ealaíontóir ildánach ab ea é fein a bhí toilteanach, i gcónaí, taispeántaisí a sheoladh agus thug sé cabhair agus tacaíocht ar mhórán Éireann slite d’aos ealaíne na leithinise. Farming News

• Derogation farmers must have sufficient storage for all livestock manure and soiled water produced on their holding.

FOREST FIRE TRAINING DAY Something that is badly needed nationally is a formalised national training strategy on Gorse Fire Burning and Forest Fires. Recently, the Junior Minister responsible for same attended such a training Co. Wicklow. Wildfires can quickly develop following dry weather patterns in all areas where flammable vegetation such as grasses, gorse and heather are present, especially in proximity to forests and other assets. This training event was very timely as training and preparedness are crucial in view of the speed at which such fires spread. The legality of the situation is simply that it is an offence under Section 40 of the Wildlife Act, 1976 (amended by Section 46 of the Wildlife Act, 2000) to burn, from 1st March to 31st August in any year, any vegetation growing on any land not then cultivated. Individuals who are found to burn vegetation within that prohibited period are liable to prosecution by An Garda Síochána or by the National Parks and Wildlife Service.

• 50% of livestock manure produced on the holding must be applied by June 15. Slurry applied after that date can only be applied using low emission equipment.

This sounds very severe, and it is. Any farmer or landowner in receipt of EU or Government farm payments, put them in jeopardy if caught lighting gorse fires outside the burning season. The Department of Agriculture has outlined the measures it has taken to increase awareness of forest fire risk. It has reminded landowners of the legal position in relation to the burning of vegetation and of the potential consequences of illegal burning, which have been explained in the terms and conditions for the 2018 Basic Payment Scheme/Greening/Areas of Natural Constraint, as published recently. Applicants under the Basic Payment Scheme and other area-based schemes should note that land that is illegally burnt is ineligible for payment under these schemes and that the inclusion of such land in their 2018 applications may result in reduced payment and penalties being applied. The training days, being hosted by Coillte at various locations throughout the country (namely Millstreet Co. Cork, Avondale Co. Wicklow, Sligo and Woodford Co. Galway) are part of a greater Fire Readiness improvement plan being rolled out by Coillte. Here’s hoping that they wont forget us here in the south west. NITRATES DEROGATION APPLICATIONS 2018 Farmers are reminded that 2018 Nitrates Derogation applications can now be submitted on line. The closing date for applications is 20 April 2018. Farmers are advised to contact their agricultural advisor to determine if they should avail of this facility. Farmers who applied for a Derogation in 2017 are reminded that they must submit fertiliser accounts by 20 April 2018 also. End of year Nitrogen and Phosphorus statements (N&P statements) for 2017 are available on the Department’s online system www.agfood.ie. or by phoning 053-9163444. The Nitrates Derogation allows farmers to exceed the limit of 170 kg of livestock manure nitrogen per hectare set down in the Nitrates Regulations, up to a maximum of 250 kg per hectare, subject to adherence to stricter rules. For a Nitrates Derogation application to be valid, all terms and conditions of the Derogation must be adhered to, including the following: • An annual application must be made online to the Department. No postal applications will be accepted. • Farming a holding that is at least 80% grass. Have grazing livestock – a derogation is only available in respect of grazing livestock. • Have a Fertilisation Plan in place on the holding by 01 March. This plan should be submitted to the Department along with the application form unless the farmer has submitted a fertiliser plan to the Department in 2015, 2016 or 2017. Where a new or amended Fertiliser Plan is submitted in 2018, only a plan produced by the Online Nutrient Management Plan programme (eNMP) is acceptable. • Fertiliser plans must be based on soil analysis results dated after 15 September 2014. • New applicants who do not have soil analysis results must assume Index 3 for 2018 but soil sample analysis, in respect of crop year 2019, must be available and the fertiliser plan amended accordingly and submitted online to the Department before 31 March 2019. • Fertiliser accounts must be submitted to the Department no later than 31 March of the following year. •

Farmers in derogation cannot import livestock manure

• Derogation documentation is available on the Department’s website. CAPITAL GAINS TAX AND FARMERS Retirement Relief measures can help farmers bypass or reduce Capital Gains tax. The general view from farmers contemplating a transfer of the farm to a son or daughter is that stamp duty, and possibly gift or inheritance tax, are the main hurdles to be jumped. It’s not necessarily so. Generally, potential Capital Gains tax issues are solved by availing of a relief known as Retirement Relief. This relief is available to farmers over 55 years and, despite the fact that it is called retirement relief, it does not mean that the farmer has to retire to avail of it. There are two versions of Retirement Relief, one which relates to family transfers and one which relates to a sale of the farm assets such as land. To qualify for either relief, the land must have been owned and farmed for the ten consecutive years prior to transfer or prior to entering into a letting/lease agreement subject to certain conditions which I will outline. FAMILY TRANSFERS: If the land which is the subject of the transfer has been owned and farmed for ten consecutive years prior to transfer or first letting, the transfer will be free of Capital Gains Tax where the transferor is over 55 years. However, where the transferor is over 66 an upper limit of €3m will apply and any value being transferred over that figure will be subject to Capital Gains Tax at 33pc. In the case of transfers to a child (son, daughter, favourite niece/nephew) where the land was rented or leased out prior to transfer, the maximum period in which the land can have been leased is 25 years. A child of a deceased child will qualify as a child for this relief. It should be noted that in the case of family transfers where the land has been rented out for a number of years prior to transfer or where the transferee has had the use of the land it is not necessary to have a formal lease in place at the time of transfer, unlike transfers or sales to unrelated parties which do require a formal lease to be in place since 31 December 2016. SITUATIONS WHERE CGT CAN ARISE • Farmer transferring has not owned all of the land for ten years or more. • Farmer transferring did not farm the land for 10 continuous years prior to transferring or first letting. • Some or all of the farm has been let or leased for more than 25 years. • Farm is in joint names with spouse who has never had any involvement in the running of the farm. • Farm is worth more than €3m and the farmer is over 66. USE BY A SPOUSE: Where the farm is jointly owned by a husband and wife or where both spouses enjoy separate ownership and one spouse had little or no involvement in the running of the farm, a question may arise as to whether that spouse satisfies the ‘10 year farmed’ condition. Alternatively, the farm may have only been placed in joint names within the last ten years whereby the 10 years ‘farmed’ rule on the part of one spouse may not be satisfied. The 10-year ownership requirement for a spouse in joint ownership is not a problem as his/her spouse’s period of ownership will cover both spouses but the 10 years ‘farmed’ requirement is a different matter and must be satisfied. Such situations should be approached with caution and good tax advice sought. Capital Gains Tax like most other taxes is subject to self-assessment and issues such as those I just outlined may not raise their heads until Revenue decide to do an audit which could be a number of years after the transfer had occurred. SURVIVING SPOUSES:

The period of ownership and use of the land by a deceased spouse will be taken into account in satisfying the ten-year rule where the surviving spouse decides to dispose of that land. SHARES IN A FAMILY COMPANY To qualify for Retirement Relief in disposing of or transferring shares in a family company, the person disposing of the shares must have been a working director for a minimum period of 10 years during which he/she was a full time working director for not less than 5 years. This is an important point for spouses to take note of who are not working directors in a family company but who have a shareholding in that company. The relief also applies to land, buildings and machinery which the individual has owned for at least 10 years provided that such assets were in use by the company and were disposed of at the same time and to the same person as the shares in the company.

From 2” sink lines to 4” - 12” sewer pipes. Biocycle tanks filter system, washed after emptying. Providing power washing service and washing facility. 24 hour cover.

NON-FAMILY SALES Providing that land was owned and farmed for 10 years prior to the date of sale or prior to first letting and the sale proceeds are less than €750,000, a farmer over 55 years and under 66 years may dispose of part or all of his farm free of capital gains tax. Where the person disposing is over 66, the limit is reduced to €500,000. Where disposal proceeds exceed €750,000 (or €500,000) there is marginal relief which is based on the excess proceeds over the relevant limit being subject to 50pc tax. This applies up to the point whereby taxing the actual gain at 33pc becomes more beneficial. In this context it is important to note that a subsequent disposal may result in a clawback of relief already gained. The €750,000/€500,000 is a lifetime limit so once you have exceeded that limit any further disposals may result in tax being charged on the earlier disposal. It should be noted that while transfers between spouses are exempt from tax any such transfers will eat into the €750k/€500k threshold depending on the value of the property transferred. - Contact Louis Murchan Tel;- 087-2857938

Hot Cross Buns for Easter Mark Murphy - Dingle Cookery School Why not try to bake your own hot cross buns this Easter? Once you do a little planning and weighing out of ingredients they are straight forward. Practice them once or twice and you will have them perfected. The smell of them coming out of the oven Easter Sunday morning will make you bake them more often and not just for Easter. Ingredients

Dust the counter with a little flour and tip out the dough.

To make the cross on the top. Mix the flour with about 20ml of water to form a thick paste.

Knead this for about 5 minutes. Put the dough into a lightly oiled bowl and cover it with cling film. Allow this to rise for about an hour or so until it has doubled in size.

Use a piping bag to draw a cross on each bun (a small freezer bag will do with a hole cut at the corner will do if you do not have a piping bag).

Divide the dough into about 16 pieces. Roll each piece into a smooth ball on a lightly floured work surface. Arrange the buns on a baking trays lined with parchment, leaving enough space for the dough to expand. Cover this with a tea towel, then set aside to let it rise again for another hour. Heat the oven to 200ºC.

Put this in the oven and bake for about 20-25 minutes. To glaze the buns, gently heat the apricot jam. Brush tis over the top of the warm buns and leave them to cool. Enjoy and Happy Easter!!!

260ml milk, 50g butter 75g caster sugar 10g dried yeast 500g strong bread flour 1 tsp salt 1 egg, beaten 75g sultanas Zest 1 orange 1 apple, peeled, cored and finely chopped 1 tsp ground cinnamon For the cross 75g flour, plus extra for dusting For the glaze 3 tbsp. apricot jam Method Warm the milk and add the butter to allow it to melt. Let this cool a little. When it cools add the yeast and the sugar. In a large bowl mix the flour and salt. Make a well in the centre and pour in the warm milk mixture. Add in the egg and mix this well until it forms a sticky dough. Mix in the sultanas, orange zest, apple and cinnamon. West Kerry Live 17

Easter Bunny Defends Real Chocolate! Irene Ní Fhlannúra Obesity expert, Professor Dónal O’ Shea stated this week that the average child receives five Easter eggs. With almost a third of Irish children already overweight or obese, this trend is worrying as is all the sugar and junk food being targeted at children and associated with major holidays. The Easter Bunny (who is hopping mad) also added “that it is a shame that chocolate has fallen foul of the food industry because there was a time when real chocolate was synonymous with great celebrations, health and happiness”. There is no other food on the planet that has the capacity to nourish the mind, body and spirit quite like real, honest chocolate. Native of the tropical rainforests of equatorial South America, Theobroma Cacao, literally means “food of the gods” and has history going back to 1000BC. The Olmec people of what is now South East Mexico were the first to hail its virtues but it was the Mayans, over 1200 years later that really put chocolate on the map. Cacao beans from which chocolate is made, were used to make a salubrious drink and also used as currency, such was the value of the beans. Only the very wealthy could afford to consume chocolate in Mayan times as the regular folk would only use cacao beans to trade for goods and services. The average industrial wage of the time was 100 beans per day. Ten beans would get you a rabbit or a tryst with a “lady of the night”, an avocado would set you back three beans and a turkey or feathered cape was a day’s wages. The trade of cacao beans was fierce – bean banks were established and beans replaced gold as currency during the reign of the last Aztec emperor, Montezuma ll (1502-1520AD). Early on counterfeit beans made out of clay were a problem and phrases such as “not worth a bean” and “bean counters” dates back to these times. The traditional method of preparing cacao beans for drinking was a long, labour-intensive process. It involved harvesting the beans from cacao pods, allowing them to ferment and dry out. They were then roasted and ground to a paste called cacao liquor -which was added to hot water and spices to make the chocolate drink. The cacao liquor can be also separated into cacao butter and cacao powder. Cacao and cocoa powder differ slightly in that the latter is roasted before being ground to a powder whereas cacao powder is ground from raw, dried beans. The roasting of the beans brings out the chocolatey aroma we are more familiar with today. Both powders in their purest forms are highly nutritious – rich in B vitamins, antioxidants, fibre, magnesium and other minerals. The chocolate drink was used in marriage cere18 West Kerry Live

monies, linking it to romance and used as a remedy for strength and virility, gaining reputation as an aphrodisiac. Amazingly, its ceremonial and medicinal use can now be justified through scientific research, with much of its nutrients truly beneficial to heart and circulatory health. Raw, unprocessed cacao is among the highest rated antioxidant foods known. Multiple antioxidantspolyphenols, catechins, flavanols among others, rank it higher than blueberries and acai berries in the antioxidant charts. The nutrient profile of cocoa powder is similar to cacao, once it is pure and minimally processed. Studies examining its effect on blood pressure showed an increase in nitric oxide production in the cells lining blood vessels, prompting them to dilate and reduce pressure while increasing blood flow. Other studies have demonstrated that it lowers the susceptibility of LDL (bad cholesterol) to oxidative damage while increasing HDL (good cholesterol) thus further protecting cardiovascular health. Rich in fibre and minerals, it can also improve insulin sensitivity, reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes. The combination of antioxidants and improved blood flow also aids memory, attention span and problem solving in brain health. Cocoa also contains stimulant substances like caffeine and theobromine, which may be a key reason cocoa can improve brain function in the short term. Following the Spanish conquest of the Aztecs in the 1600s, chocolate made its debut in Europe. The Industrial Revolution paved the way for the chocolate we eat today. Steam engines reduced the time and labour needed for grinding cacao beans and also new machinery enabled more cacao butter to be extracted from Systems the liquor, which was later replaced Solar with cheaper oils such as palm oil and vegeTom Kennedy table oils. On Sunday 18th March at the Red Fox Inn, cheques were presented to the Irish Cancer Society and St Mary Of The Angles Beaufort. The monies were collected during a charity Tractor Run from the Red Fox in February, where over 150 tractors turned out on the day in remembrance of John Teahan from Cromane, a true gentleman to all that knew him. John was sadly taken by cancer in 2017, leaving his wife Jenny and Daughter Cloe, brother Brendan and Sister Kay. The total collected was a massive €13,000 and was made up of monies collected from the tractor run, and kind donations from local businesses and individuals. The money was divided equally between the two causes, receiving €6500 each. The cheques were received by Johns wife Jenny on behalf of the Cancer Society and Jack Fitzpatrick for Mary Of The Angles. In the Photo Front row L/R Noel Hannon, Ann Griffin, Jenny Teahan (Johns Widow), Jack Fitzpatrick (Mary Of The Angles and Anthony Naughton. News from Ceann Sibéal Dingle Links While many Golf Clubs have been badly impacted by the bad weather these past few months, we are fortunate in Ceann Sibéal that our course is playable 365 days each year (apart from when it is covered in snow, as it was recently if only for a couple of days). As the weather hopefully improves, the first major event of 2018 will be the Captains’ Charity Day on Friday 30th March in the form of an Open Team Event – Team of 3 any combination. Proceeds of the Charity Day will go to the Liam Duggan Fund in memory of Liam who passed away too early and was a good friend to Ceann Sibéal and coached many of our younger members. Timesheet is open – contact Steve in the Clubhouse for further details. This is followed for the Ladies by another very popular Open event sponsored by Noreen Curran on Wednesday 4th April – visitors most welcome, again contact the Clubhouse. Get Into Golf which is promoted by the Confederation of Golf in Ireland is designed to encourage ladies and gentlemen of all ages to ‘try’ golf will kick off – or should that be ‘tee off’ in the coming weeks also. This is a fantastic programme which makes it very easy and affordable to see if golf suits you with coaching, clubs and lots of support provided at a nominal fee. Watch for details in West Kerry Live, on Raidió na Gaeltachta or check our website www.dinglelinks.com . Our very popular Junior Programme will also commence in the next few weeks – details will be on the website.

BOOKS. Pat Nelligan gave one of his renowned eloquent speeches when launching Carl O Flahertys latest book titled DINGLE PEOPLE Farmers, Fishermen,Families and Friends. Its 224 pages contain a great collection of the life and times of 35 different local personalities together with numerous photographs of characters some unfortunately no longer with us and some very much alive and well in various parts of the world. A great read, a book one can read in pieces over time and a great present for our diaspora also.

PARADE. Sincere thanks to all the groups and individuals who took part in the St Patricks Day Parade this year. Mother Nature was kind to us with a dry day and a great variety of colourful entries made for an enjoyable occasion on our streets. Garvey’s Supervalu once again sponsored the prizes which went to Banna Ceoil Lispole as overall winners with Dingle Tidy Towns chosen as best float, Samba Cuisle Drummers as best music group and Lispole Drama Group as best interactive group. Danno once again gave his customary run down on each entry as they passed the Holyground reviewing stand. Our thanks also to the Gardaí and Stewards for their help in the smooth rerouting of traffic and the County Council staff for their help in placing bollards and barriers for safety at various points around town. However some groups were noticeable in their absence from the parade again this year. This is a pity and shows an apparent lack of community spirit in our town which has been commented on in many quarters by event organisers over the past few years. AWARDS. Comhar Chreidmheasa Chorca Dhuibhne were worthy recipients of the inaugural Q-Mharc Gno le Gaeilge Award from Foras Na Gaeilge at a Croke Park ceremony recently. Congratulations also to 11 year old local pianist Ava Duffy youngest ever winner of the Rotary 24 West Kerry Live

the 2 minute a day street clean and the use of compostable products like straws and food packaging. The County Clean Up Day will take place on Saturday April 14th and our aim to have litter picked from all approach roads up to 3 miles from town is dependant on the support of volunteers turning up on the day. Meeting point will be at the Bottle Bank at 10p.m. So put the date in your diary or phone or in your memory bank! Slán Tamall.

I understand that Bosco Ó Concubhair also gave an eloquent introduction when launching Noel Ó Murchu’s bilingual book based on the life of his greatuncle Tomas Ruiseal. Both books are available in local bookshops and are very reasonably priced. FILM FESTIVAL. This wonderful Festival attracted a large crowd to West Kerry and a great variety of events at various venues including Dingle Animation Conference workshops really kept all participants fully occupied over the weekend. Well done to Maurice Galway and his crew who produce such an entertaining programme each year despite the ever changing nature of that particular business. TIDY TOWNS. Now that Summer Time has arrived the work evenings switch to Mondays meeting at the Bottle Bank at 7p.m. The GLAN INITIATIVE in association with Dingle Oceanworld and An Taisce has been launched with Dingle as the pilot town aiming to promote

Greta’s Herbs Greta McCarthy O’Brien Wild Gardening If like me, you enjoy less formality and less maintenance in the garden - then wild gardening is the ideal trend. This practice allows the garden to evolve naturally - permitting plants to reseed where they choose although thoughtful weeding must still occur. Living in proximity to the wild Atlantic Ocean has instilled in me a respect for any plant which can survive this wet windswept environment. I will only remove what is necessary for example if one species is smothering another. Plants will pop up unexpectedly, sometimes where you might consider out of place, but you learn to live with that - I have a huge horseradish which embedded itself in the flower bank and random foxgloves which sneak in and escape notice until their tall flower spikes appear - at that stage I don't have the heart to pull them out! Borage, nasturtiums and pot marigolds provide colour and plenty of nectar for bees and - there are always some nice surprises like my self-seeded gold oregano and a treasured cowslip. I have occasionally had to remove large self-seeded subjects such as cotoneaster and hawthorn which could cause future trouble. These can be potted up and given to friends. Certain plants such as comfrey and wild garlic are ferocious spreaders and may need some restriction. February is the best month for dividing and transplanting however if winter runs late early March will suffice. Greek oregano and chives which have seeded themselves amongst the stone chippings are extremely resilient - most self-seeders are - they always find the spot most perfect for their needs. Sweet cicely and salad burnet thrive in shady spots. It is very important to curb these varieties and others such as fennel and St John's wort by removing withered flower heads before they set seed or they will take over the garden. Evening primrose are a delight and perfect for waste ground, sadly one of my favourites - the field poppy will not grow here as the soil is too heavy.

MINDFULNESS COURSES IN TRALEE

Just as invasive but not as visually intrusive are alpine strawberries and aquilegias. They are so pretty in Spring and Summer. Many varieties will revert to their wild species however I was delighted to see a self-seeded gold leaved aquilegia had retained its beautiful foliage colour. Wild violets and bluebells have naturalised among my hedgerow which for me is my most sacred patch - so many ancient hedgerows have been bulldozed out of existence. If you have space create your own by planting native species such as hawthorn, ash, blackthorn, elder, fuchsia, wild rose, holly, crab apple and hazel - lots of others such as primrose and bracken, will creep in to naturalise the area.

WITH EVA BRUHA

The other function of wild gardening is to attract and sustain wild creatures. In autumn many varieties such as teasel and angelica are candy stores for birds. A pond is a great oasis for both human and animal and will attract hedgehogs and frogs as well as beneficial insects such as hoverflies and ladybirds. These prey on plant pests such as greenfly and slugs thus eliminating any need for chemical control. Wild gardening excludes the use of herbicides (weed killers) - the odd weed never looks out of place and clusters of poached egg plant amongst the driveway will be fully acceptable. Indeed, as I have said many times before a healthy clump of nettles is a terrific addition, it is the only host plant for certain species of butterfly, young leaves will give you tasty soup and older leaves can be used to make a liquid feed.

Stressed? MINDFULNESS FOR EVERYDAY LIVING

On a summer's day a wild garden creates its own symphony - as a gentle breeze rustles, birds and butterflies are on the wing, bees are on the buzz, the odd plop of a frog in the pond can be heard and in the hedgerow, something invisible moves. Wild gardening brings us closer to nature. It rekindles that childhood fascination from many moons ago which continues to captivate us. 26 West Kerry Live

Anyone for Leadóg /Tennis? Dingle town has great facilities for many people but, in one area is found lacking----------A new tennis club in the park in Dingle town. My proposal is to do the research, find out what grants may be availed of and form a committee of ordinary members to oversee the running of the club. Once the refurbishments are complete including a new perimeter fence, two new all -weather artificial grass courts, new nets and floodlighting and a clubhouse with toilet and shower facilities if possible. We would envisage the club developing teams to play other clubs in the area, along with coaching for children, teens and adults.

Mac Domhnaill Dental recently won a Q-Mharc Award for Excellence in Bilingualism in Business/Gradam don Dátheangachas den Scoth sa Ghnó, one of only seven Irish Businesses to receive the award from Foras na Gaeilge in Croke Park on March 8th. Once this is in place we believe this fantasic facility would be a real asset to Dingle town, and when complete it would clean up the park area and inject new life into the park area and the town. Anyone who wants to be a part of this exciting new proposal for our town and its families please show your interest by sending an email to me. If we can obtain the grants to bring this to Dingle town we think it would be of enormous benefit to the area, and will be looking for committee members to help run the new club. Dingle Peninsula GLAN Project Just to keep you up to date on the new environmental initiative for the Dingle Peninsula - “GLAN”. The beginning aim of GLAN (Green Local Area Network) is to help businesses make small changes such as reducing the amount of single use plastics they use, along with supporting other environmental actions. We have started to engage with businesses and we will be talking with more businesses after the busy Easter period. The interest in the initiative so far has been really positive. Plus, Dingle Aquarium is compiling a list of suppliers along with a cost comparison for compostable items and they intend to make this information available to businesses soon.

At this time of year nature provides us with powerful food plants that cleanse and detoxify as well. The big three are nettles, cleavers (stickyweed) and dandelions. You can make delicious nettle soup, a powerhouse smoothie with cleavers and a rejuvenating spring tonic made with dandelions - all nourishing and health giving foods that come without any excess packaging.

St. James Restoration Project St. James’ Church, Dingle is of historical significance from its Spanish patronage in the medieval period and it’s associations with the pilgrimage routes of St. James of Sanitago de Compostela. It is a much loved place of worship for church members and visitors alike, as well as an important asset to the wider community from it's use as a concert and arts venue. Historic buildings constantly need maintenance and repair and St. James’ is no exception. To restore this iconic building and, whilst retaining it’s unique character, improve its facilities for the future, we need to spend at least €500,000. We will be working hard to raise money to fund this project and to the people for whom this church has special memories, we thank you for your generosity in donating to the Restoration Fund.

IFA Pat O Shea Kerry IFA Chairperson of the Hill Committee has received a number of calls in the last week about dogs worrying sheep and in two cases where sheep have been killed. Mr. O Shea is now advising farmers of their right to shoot dogs that are found worrying sheep. Mr O’Shea says there are far too many dog owners not taking the responsibility that goes with owning a pet as serious as they ought to. There are between 300 to 400 reported attacks in Ireland each year with losses of upwards of 4000 sheep. Farmer's take seriously the health and wellbeing of their flock and as much as they dislike shooting dogs they will do so . So please be a responsible dog owner and insure that your pet is under your control at all times day and night. Short Film Bursary set to nurture opportunities in filmmaking from Kerry Filmmaking in Kerry is set to receive a boost with the recent announcement of a new short film bursary by Kerry County Council and The Arts Council. ‘Kerry is a great location to shoot a film and we are keen that filmmakers all over Ireland hear about the Bursary’, stated Cathaoirleach Kerry County Council, Councillor John Sheahan. The Film Bursary Award aims to foster talent, creativity and activity in filmmaking in County Kerry. The Bursary is for a short drama film of 10 to 12 minute in duration. The Bursary is set as a grant and valued at €15,000 for 2018. Announcing the award Kate Kennelly, Arts Officer said “We are looking for film makers with some experience in the field, who are working in the short drama genre and who have a script that has been developed, seen by a Director, and has had input from a producer”. An experience in filmmaking is required and applicants will need to prove that a director and/or a producer has seen the script and has a sense of its suitability to go to production. On announcing the Bursary, Sinead O’Reilly Head of Local Arts at The Arts Council stated ‘a bursary to support film making ensures that a culture of filmmaking is encouraged at local level. This feeds into the mainstream industry and the generation of future opportunities’.

ity for several weeks. I often come across this condition in weight trainers who front press or incline bench press, the bar being too far out from their neck during pressing. It is also common in swimmers with poor technique or who ramp up their training distance/pace too quickly.

Eddie O’Grady Biceps tendinitis(also called Bicipital Tendinitis) is a common cause of shoulder pain, often developing in people who perform repetitive, overhead movements. Biceps tendinitis develops over time, the pain being located at the front of the shoulder. The biceps muscle has two parts referred to as the long head and the short head. The tendon of the long head of the biceps is most commonly implicated with tendinitis. When this tendon is subjected to repetitive stresses, it can become irritated, swollen, and painful. This occurs where the tendon sits within the bicipital groove at the top of the humerus under the transverse ligament before it becomes part of the shoulder joint capsule. Pain at this exact spot when pressed with a finger as the arm is rotated in and out while standing, is usually a fairly reliable test to confirm this condition. Imaging techniques such as MRI are typically not needed to diagnose biceps tendinitis. Symptoms Pain or tenderness in the front of the shoulder, which worsens with overhead lifting or activity. Pain that moves down along the upper arm

Eddie O’Grady An occasional snapping sound or sensation in the shoulder Treatment The initial goals of treatment for bicipital tendinitis are to reduce inflammation and swelling. Patients should restrict above shoulder height movements, reaching out with the affected arm and lifting. They should apply ice to the affected area for 10-15 minutes, 2-3 times daily for several days. Milltown Castlemaine GAA Notes Scór Na bPáistí: Comhghairdeas to our traditional music group-Pat Murphy, Liam O’ Dowd, Padraig O’ Sullivan, Gearóid Quirke and Donnachda O’ Sullivan who represented our club on Friday night last in the Mid Kerry Scór na bPáistí competition, in Killorglin. They gave a truly wonderful performance of ‘Mo Ghile Mear’ and ‘Britches full of Stitches’. The five boys received extremely positive comments from the adjudicator- Rosie Healy. Special thanks to first year student Sarah Leane from our club, who gave of her time and expertise over the past few weeks mentoring the boys. Maith thú Sarah. Mary Clifford and her team are to be commended also for all their work in keeping Scór Na bPáistí alive. A tremendous amount of time and work goes into this, much behind closed doors. We sincerely appreciate your commitment to keeping Irish music and culture to the fore in Mid Kerry. Quiz Team: Our quiz group of Conor Giles, Seán O’ Sullivan, Grace O’ Sullivan, Abbie O’ Reilly, Diarmuid Quirke and Hannah O’ Sullivan have been busy practising for the up- coming Scór na bPáistí County Final. This will be held on Sunday April 22nd in the ISK. Special thanks to Caroline McCarthy and Danny McClure for all their work with this group of children. Senior County League-Round 2 After a pulsating game, played in sunny conditions, our seniors, sponsored by Larkins Bar and Restaurant and Kelly’s Londis, Topshop, came away with a draw against Ballymac on Sunday last. Cathal Moriarty and Jamie O’ Shea both notched up 1/01 in the first half along with 3 points from Jack McCarthy and a point from Brendan Delaney giving the home side a 3 point lead at the interval.

Revised dressing room/side line guidelines: Please note that under age players are NOT permitted inside the dressing rooms prior to or after a SENIOR game or inside the surrounding fence wire when a senior game is ongoing. This is to protect all parties involved. We ask parents and guardians to continually remind their children of this rule which will be strictly enforced. We appreciate your on- going support and cooperation. Castlemaine St. Patrick’s Day Parade: Well done to all the Castlemaine committee who organised such a great parade for the residents of and visitors to Castlemaine. Thank you to those from our club who participated in it. A wonderful afternoon of children’s activities and music was enjoyed by one and all.

Against a strong breeze in the second half, Gavin Horan and Cathal Moriarty added 2 further points early on but Ballymac got their scoring boots on and took the lead in the 43rd minute, leaving a score line of 2/08 to 1/12. Jamie O’ Shea added another point for M/C but this was cancelled out by a Ballymac free. In the 53rd minute Ballymac had established a 3 point lead (1/15 to 2/09). Another Jack McCarthy point reduced the deficit. Ballymac quickly cancelled that out once again. A Derek Twiss free in injury time reduced the deficit to 2 points-1/16 to 2/11. Another pointed free by Derek Twiss deep in injury time brought the MC side to within a point of Ballymac. As the final whistle neared, with experience and skill personified, another massive score by Derek Twiss from 30 yards out levelled the sides. Fantastic character shown by the entire panel. Final score MC 2/13, Ballymac 1/16. Cul Camps: The above camp will take place during the week of July 9th to 13th. Further details available in the coming weeks or on the Cul Camps website. Get well wishes: We extend get well wishes to all those in our community who are sick at this time. In particular, we think of those from our club who are recovering from illness. We sincerely hope you will make a return to full health in the not too distant future.

Ní bheidh aon cheall amadán ná óinsíní an t-am seo bliana. Caid. Ní raibh aon dath don ádh ar fhoireann sinsir na Gaeltachta an Domhnach seo caite. Gan amhras ní raibh faic puinn le gnóthú ag an nGaelacht ach go bhfuil a ndara chluiche sraithe caillte acu. Bhuadar an chéad cheann.. Bhí an mí-ádh ortha i dtosach. Mar sin féin throideadar go maith go deireadh. Gan amhras bhí triúr no ceathrar in easnamh [iad ar phainéal sínsir Chiarraí]. Tá foireann maith acu agus guímíd gach rath ortha. I gcás sinsir Chiarraí d’imríodar go maith ar shlí mar ná raibh faic sa chluiche ach iarracht eile le teacht ar chinneadh ar cad iad na himreóirí a bheidh ar fáil nó maith go leor dos na cluichí craoibhe. What’s happening in the Hub? Last week was a busy one as we hosted the Wanda VR 360 workshop as part of the Dingle Film Festival. The creative energy was palpable as participants planned and edited their video clips here and then gave hub users a chance to experience the beauty of West Kerry through the virtual reality lens. On Saturday, we welcomed young Corca Dhuibhne Coders to our first Dingle Coder Dojo workshop from the Hub. There was impressive work done on film editing, animation, robots and more. I know many are eager for regular coding sessions so more to come on this soon.

Call Paudie on 087 9947927 Movie Review

Pierce Hoare The Shape of Water The Shape of Water is a gorgeous film by director Guillermo Del Toro, who also directed Pan’s Labyrinth and Hellboy. The moment I saw the beautiful opening shot of this movie I knew I was in for something spectacular and I still don’t know if it was practical effects or CGI but it was great nonetheless. The movie takes place in 1960’s cold war America where a mute cleaning lady, played by Sally Hawkins, discovers what is being kept in the facility where she works: A man-fish hybrid, played by the amazing Doug Jones. The acting in this movie is second to none with Sally Hawkins managing to pull off a magnificent performance with little to no dialogue given to her character. Doug Jones is marvellous as a fish man but then again he had plenty of practice in Hellboy 1 & 2. Michael Shannon is perfect for the villain of the movie and every scene he’s in makes you dread what is to come. The plot of the movie borrows from a lot of places such as Creature from the Black Lagoon, Beauty and the Beast and a lot of 50’s horror movies and all these pieces together make it enthralling to watch. The soundtrack fits perfectly with the movie and I have to congratulate Alexandre Desplat for an amazing job as I doubt anyone else could have done a better job. The costume for the monster is unbelievably detailed and mixed with Doug Jones’ physical acting talent it is almost as though they created the creature in a lab just for the movie. The camera work in the movie is stunning with both the opening and closing shots of the movie being works of art on their own. The writing is nothing short of superb with bits of comedy, tension, intrigue and sadness put in at the absolute perfect places. While the movie can be considered a bit weird (It’s about a fish man during the cold war so that should be obvious) it is still excellent but I will warn there are violent and adult scenes. I would recommend anyone (who is old enough) to go see The Shape of Water as soon as you can as the only word that adequately describes it is “beautiful”. by man-of-the-match Conor Sugrue, Liam Smith, and Rian O’Donovan (who was fouled) allowed Darragh McKeefry to kick the equalising point from a 30-metre free. A good display, despite the early wayward shooting, with plenty for the lads to work on. Team and scorers: Daniel Kelly; Brice Dourieu, Jack O’Sullivan, Dylan Falvey; Sean Tadhg Sheahan, Conor Sugrue, Ethan Griffin; Oisín O’Connor 0-1, Liam Smith; Liam Roche 0-1, Darragh McKeefry 0-2 (0-1 free), Cathal Crosby 0-1; Tommy Quirke 0-1, Dara Casey 0-2, Rian O’Donovan. Subs: Jamie Naughton for O O’Connor (injured) 15m, Patrick Griffin for D Casey (injured) half-time, Eanna Healy for D Falvey 45m, Jason Clifford for J O’Sullivan (injured) 50m. Division 3B (round 3): GGC 3-20, Ardfert 2-4

Our seniors played their first game of the year in Cromane on Sunday when they welcomed Gneeveguilla in Division 4 of the county league. It proved to a tough outing as we ended up on the end of a six-point reverse, however there were still plenty of positive in defeat.

An excellent attacking display by the Glenbeigh-Glencar/Cromane (GGC) minors on Saturday evening in Cromane - where 11 different scorers they hit 3-19 from play - continued their unbeaten start to the county league. This was their second game of the week after their draw against Glenflesk on the Monday evening.

A Paul Patrick O’Sullivan goal from a penalty put Cromane 1-0 to 0-2 ahead after 10 minutes. Mikey Houlihan then added a fine point from play after 13 minutes to keep Cromane in front, 1-1 to 0-3. In the middle of the half Cromane lost their way as Gneeveguilla took over around the middle and kicked five points in a row to lead by 1-1 to 0-8 after 20 minutes. Cromane steadied and three Paul Patrick O’Sullivan points, one a free, got us back in it 1-4 to 0-11 while a lovely Sean O’Sullivan score in injury time meant we went turned around four down, 1-5 to 0-12.

The side’s only point from a free came from the boot of Darragh McKeefry after nine minutes. Outside of that Liam Roche was the game’s best attacker, kicking 1-6 from play, while at the back Jack O’Sullivan at full-back repelled a series of early Ardfert attacks when the game was still in the balance. Ardfert got off to the better start (in a a game played 13-a-side) hitting the game’s first two scores but then GGC completely took over hitting 1-5 without reply with Roche slotting home the goal. Tommy Quirke (with two), Darragh McKeefry, and Rian O’Donovan also hit points in this spell.

Cromane were rocked back when Gneeveguilla stormed out of the blocks in the second half and hit 1-1 in the first five minutes to give them what looked like an unassailable eight-point lead, 1-5 to 1-13.

From here until half-time it was all GGC with an Ardfert goal in the 15th minute the only blip. This cut the lead to three (1-5 to 1-2) but then the GGC lads cut loose again and hit eight unanswered points from Roche (three), O’Donovan (two), midfielder Liam Smith and halfbacks Ethan Griffin and Sean Tadhg Sheahan. At the break GGC led 1-13 to 1-2.

However, that’s when Sean O’Sullivan took over and five fantastic points, four frees from a variety of angles (two for fouls on himself) and a lovely point from play to bring us to within three with eight minutes left. However, we had spent so much energy (with four minors playing their second game in 24 hours) in getting back to this level it proved too much to close things out and Gneeveguilla finished on the ascendancy. The visitors kicking the last three points of the afternoon. A good competitive game in Cromane that showed our lads the level we need to push ourselves up to. The first half fade out when we conceded five points in a row was a lesson as was the Gneeveguilla second half restart. When we got the ball forward we looked dangerous. Next week is junior championship time with our first group 2 game away to Kilgarvan on Easter Sunday (April 1) at 2.30pm. Team: Paudie McCarthy; Shane Ahern, Sean Teahan, Liam Teahan; Conor Sugrue, John Michael Foley, Ethan Griffin; Donnchadh Walsh, Finbar Casey; Darren Houlihan, Paul Patrick O’Sullivan 1-4 (0-2f), Micheál Shaughnessy; Sean O’Sullivan 0-6 (0-4 frees), Mikey Houlihan 0-1, Emmet Casey. Subs: Stephen Foley for S Ahern 2 mins, Cathal Crosby for E Casey 40m, S Ahern for S Foley 40m, E O’Connor for F Casey 50m, Brice Dourieu for PP O’Sullivan 55m. County Minor League: County Minor League Division 3B (round 2): Glenbeigh-Glencar/Cromane (GGC) 0-8, Glenflesk 0-8 A free converted by Darragh McKeefry two minutes from time earned the GGC minors a share of the spoils in this Division 3B clash against Glenflesk in Cromane this afternoon. It shouldn’t have come to that though when they look back on a first half when they were very wasteful in front of goal. They did most things right up to the final pass or shot. Encouragingly, they didn’t leave the missed efforts affect them as they managed to fight back to earn a draw which means they have three points from their first two games in the Division. They started very well and led by 0-3 to 0-1 after 15 minutes with points form Oisin O’Connor, Dara Casey, and Darragh McKeefry. At the break, GGC had a one-point lead 0-4 to 0-3. However, at this stage injuries had robbed the team of Oisin and Dara and they also lost full-back Jack O’Sullivan who was having a fine game to injury with ten minutes left. GGC made a fine start to the second half as Cathal Crosby, Liam Roche, and Tommy Quirke points put them ahead 0-7 to 0-4 after 40 minutes. Glenflesk played much better in the last quarter as they started to dominate possession for the first time in the game. They hit four unanswered points to lead 0-8 to 0-7 with five minutes remaining. GGC steadied up and some fine play

Ardfert again started well and were within eight points (1-15 to 2-4) when their full-forward goaled. But that’s where their scoring ended as GGC settled back down again to play some lovely football, hitting another 2-5 (Brice Dourieu kicking 0-2 when he went forward) in the last quarter. What was pleasing for the management team was that substitutes all played their part with Darren O’Shea and Jason Clifford both hitting the net and Jamie Naughton chipping in with a point. Well done lads, that’s two wins and a draw from their first three games in the county minor league. Team: Daniel Kelly; Brice Dourieu 0-2, Jack O’Sullivan; Sean Tadhg Sheahan 0-2, Conor Sugrue, Ethan Griffin 0-1; Oisín O’Connor, Liam Smith 0-1; Liam Roche 1-6, Darragh McKeefry 0-2 (0-1f), Cathal Crosby; Tommy Quirke 0-2, Rian O’Donovan 0-3. Subs: Darren O’Shea 1-0 for O O’Connor 15th minute, Pa Griffin for L Smith, halftime, Jason Clifford 1-0 for C Crosby 35th minute, Dylan Falvey for E Griffin 45th minute, Jamie Naughton 0-1 for R O’Donovan 50th minute, Eanna Healy for C Sugrue 55th minute.
