SIMPLE TRICKS TO BEAT HOLIDAY STRESS!!
1. Pre-baking cookies and other delicious Christmas treats are a great way of staying ahead of the game. Most cookies and other treats can last for a good 3 to 4 weeks in the freezer and still taste like you just baked them! Take a weekend before the holidays hit, and bake like Martha Stewart! Box up those tasty treats up and hide them in your freezer away from hungry eyes! And when that moment finally arrives of those surprise, but well-wishing guests, now you have a last-minute platter of holiday goodness! Now finger foods are always a hard one to have ready, because you never know when that picky eater will arrive at your party and complain about your appies!
W
ith the holidays just around the corner, there just never seems to be enough hours in the day to get all of those little tasks done. Here are some simple and easy tricks to help to survive the holidays this year!
2. Puff pastry is going to be one of the easiest items to have in your Holiday preparedness kit! Its great for making super quick appies, that you can make in advance, freeze unbaked and then just pop into the oven and within 10 minuets you have ready to serve appie that makes you look like the flawless hostess that everyone wants to be!
Prep, Prep and once more‌.Prep! Preparation is your best friend during the many crazy hours of searching for those perfect gifts, wrapping, ribbons and bows.
Remember those small white twinkle lights that you meant to take down but instead left up all year, well jazz them up with a new string of LED mulit-coloured or perhaps a string of single colour LED lights. A new pop of colour will add a new life to those old lights!
Hours of operation: We’re open 7 days a week, and are open early and late on weekdays. Monday to Friday Saturday and Sunday

From classic long standing businesses like Rex Cox Menswear and Lanka Jewels to those tucked away gems such as Apostrophie + Co., Mac & Mango, Silk Degrees, Beach Basket, Black Bond Books and Mossy Creek & Co. Also consider gifts from our thriving artisan community found at the Mission Arts Council, as well as local experiences like JXLGHG ÂżVKLQJ JROI RU D IXQ QLJKW DW Decode Escape Rooms. Or maybe a pampering session with a hair, nail or massage appointment or a meal at one of our exceptional local restaurants is something to consider. As you can see, Mission has something to offer for everyone on your gift list. Small businesses struggle to compete with the box stores at this time of year, but the unique
products on offer and the service they provide make it worth taking the time to drop in and have a look around.
• Local stores are more likely to support charities and community groups. • They tend to have detailed product knowledge and offer greater personalized customer service.

If you like ice skating, building snowmen, playing sports, or laughing ‘til your sides hurt, we think you’d make a great Big Brother.
“All I want for Christmas is a Big Brother” is a phrase that many Mission parents will be hearing this year. There are currently 8 Mission boys on the waitlist for a mentor through Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Fraser Valley and many more who schools have identified as needing extra support. Girls in Mission tend to wait less than a year for a Big Sister, as more females sign on to help out. Mentoring Coordinator Cassie Silva explains that unfortunately, there has only been one new Big Brother volunteer application in Mission so far in 2017. In comparison, about six new Mission girls received Big Sisters this year. Over 60 Mission kids are supported each year through BBBS mentoring, through after-school group programs, In-School Mentoring, and long-term matches that can continue until the child “graduates” from the program at age 18. This means that the kids most impacted by the lack of male Big Brothers are the boys on the waitlist, some of whom have been waiting years.
“My kids have been on the waiting list for a long time for a Big Brother,” said Finnlay’s mom. “Their dad has been out of their lives for the last eight years, and it’s been very hard on them. Boys need to have a man to talk to and that’s one gap that I just can’t fill for them myself.”
11-year-old Finnlay explains, “I want a Big Brother because I’ve been missing my father and it would be nice to have someone to hang out with. If you sign up now, I am at the top of the list, so you might get to be MY Big Brother! I hope I get to meet you.”
Volunteer inquiries can call or text (604) 820-3337 or email cassie.silva@bigbrothersbigsisters.ca

Silva understands there are many reasons why men might find it daunting to sign on as a mentor, but believes that if they met some of the great boys on the waitlist, they would sign up immediately. To test this theory, Silva challenges local men to sign up, with the understanding they are under no commitment until they meet a boy at a waitlist event they connect with.

Is This the Season to Sell? Have you ever noticed that some things have a season? For example, hockey is associated with winter, regardless of where it’s played. New TV shows usually start in the fall. It makes you wonder. Does real estate have a season? Is there an ideal time of year to sell? Seasons can play a role in the real estate market. People are out and about more in the summer, so listings tend to be up. On the other hand, there are a lot of buyers looking for properties in the fall, winter, and spring. So the best time to sell is when you want to sell. There is no PDJLF PRQWK WKDW LV JRLQJ WR PDNH D VLJQLÀFDQW GLIIHUHQFH LQ WKH price you’re going to get, or how long your home will be on the market.

I can help sell your home regardless of the season. Of course, you might not be thinking of selling now, But, if you are, don’t worry about the time of year, lets talk today 604-615-6446!

LTAD is good for your child!! The Long Term Athlete Development model is based on science, research and decades of experience. This model confirms that kids will get active, stay active and even reach the greatest heights of sport achievement if they do the right thing at the right time. Please consider the points below to guide your child’s sport involvement. Girls up to 8 and boys up to 9 years old should develop fundamental movement skills . Agility , Balance, Coordination and Speed are skills that should be developed in a fun and challenging multi-sport environment . Girls 9-11 and boys 10 –12 years old should be converting their fundamental movement skills into fundamental sport skills. Known as the “Golden Age of Learning” it may be tempting to specialize at this age through excessive single sport training, or early position specialization in team sports. This should be avoided at these ages.. Girls 12-15 and boys 13-16 are ready to consolidate their basic sport specific skills and focus on fitness development to develop an athletes long term potential. Yoga for Anxiety I
f you’ve ever experienced a panic attack, you know how terrifying they can be. The shortness of breath or feeling like you can’t breathe, your heart racing and pounding in your chest and the legitimate fear that something is very wrong and very scary. And even if you haven’t had a panic per se, but have experienced anxiety, you probably have felt some of these things to varying degrees. The good news is that there are some simple ways yoga can help with anxiety. Because yoga engages the body, the mind and the heart, it is very effective at allowing us to be in the present moment. Often, anxiety occurs due to a fear of the future or worries about the past. When we practice yoga we are more likely to be fully engaged in the sensations and feelings of the body, so we become present and worries and fears are set aside. Yoga also helps to heighten our awareness of our bodies, thoughts and feelings. As a result of yoga practice, that awareness helps us become aware of triggers, the onset of a panic attack or the knowledge that we need to take some time for selfcare.
The breathing practices that yoga offers can be a tremendous help for anxiety sufferers. There are a variety of techniques that specifically calm and soothe the nervous system. A simple technique is to breathe in and out through your nose, counting to four on the inhalation and exhalation. If you or a loved one is suffering from anxiety, yoga can help. Through group classes or private one-on-one sessions, Unison Yoga can offer guidance, support and yogic practices to help you deal with your anxiety.
Tracy Loffler is the owner of Unison Yoga in Mission and has been teaching yoga since 2002. She teaches with compassion, humour and open heart and is experienced working with people who are injured or have other physical limitations. All of her classes offer variations and modifications to accommodate “every body”. To learn more about Tracy and register for a class, visit www.unisonyoga.ca
