L E T S TA L K A B O U T R O C K C H I P S … Rock Chips in a windshield can be an eyesore, but luckily in most cases can be repaired quickly and easily. What people may not be aware of is that there is a good chance

repair coverage is included through your insurance provider. That’s right, most insurance providers actually include, or offer as an additional premium, windshield repairs as a preventative maintenance included in your policy. Now, not all rock chips are repairable. There are limitations and parameters that determine if windshield damage is repairable. There are also guidelines that insurance providers have set forth to determine whether a rock chip repair qualifies for coverage under your insurance policy. Here at Cottonwood Auto Glass we are available to help determine if your glass can be repaired, or if it will require a replacement. Furthermore, there are some misconceptions whether a rock ship on your windshield is repairable or not, based on the location of the damage. Some facilities won’t repair damage anywhere on the driver side of your windshield, and have been pushing customers towards the unnecessary replacement of the windshield. This simply is not true! Our friendly staff at Cottonwood Auto Glass is here to assist you with this service, and provide you with the information needed to determine the best course of action. So next time you hear that dreaded, “ding, ping, or bang” on your glass, we’re here to help!

TWO-HEADED SNAKE COZIES UP TO CHILLIWACK By Adam Louis & Darcie Stiller Now, this is a Medusa you can look at without turning to stone. Among The Reptile Room’s many animals, including various geckos, bearded dragons, lizards, snakes, rabbits, budgies and of course, Tigger, the 13-year-old ever-vigilant resident cat – is a rare phenomenon indeed. Medusa, a Goldust Motley corn snake, was born with two heads. The Condition of being born with two heads is a form of Polycephaly (having more than one head) and specifically Dicephalic (having two heads). The odds of her being born this way are roughly 1 in 10,000. As for the odds of them surviving past a few weeks out of egg are maybe around 2% said Amber Quiring, Co-Owner of The Reptile Room. “She came from my very first corn snake clutch ever,” she added.

Ms. Quiring had at first wondered if it had been caused by improper temperatures during incubation, however she quickly learned that there was nothing wrong with Medusa; Although it was rare, Medusa was essentially a pair of conjoined twins. Even though Medusa is visibly smaller than their peers, Medusa does everything a normal corn snake does – only a little differently. “They have limited mobility issues, because they have two functioning brains that don’t always agree!!” Quiring said. “They eat out of both heads and have one digestive tract. Basically, they have 2 brains attached to one stomach.” Sometimes, Medusa’s heads will compete for food. “I don’t really know how They sort it out, but eventually they do and one of them eats [their food]. To see Medusa for yourself, visit the The Reptile Room at 46144 Yale Road in Chilliwack.

Upcoming Exhibit: Mountaineers By Adrienne Rempel, Curator, Chilliwack Museum and Archives

Here at the Chilliwack Museum we are planning the next exhibition, Mountaineers: A History of Community Use on the Skagit Range. We are actively involved in the research and community outreach phase, and are contacting local individuals and community groups about their mountain experiences. We are also looking for loans or donations of equipment and gear associated with hiking and exploring the Skagits. Which mountains are the Skagits? The Skagit Range is a subsection of the Cascade Mountains that extends to the Fraser River in the north, down to Washington in the south. Famous peaks include Lhilheqey (Mt. Cheam), Selísi (Mt. Slesse), and Loyúmthel (Liumchen Mtn). This area has been used extensively by aboriginal groups for thousands of years, and is included in the Stó:lo First Nation’s S’ólh Téméxw (Our World). If you have a story, photographs, old journal, or equipment associated with your relationship to the local mountains, we would love to hear about it. In addition to the community outreach and knowledge gathering that we are currently

conducting; if any individual’s want to reach out we are happy to hear from you. (Remember, a Chilliwack connection is crucial, so while we enjoy hearing stories from other parts of the world, our focus is on Chilliwack people and their experiences.) So…Did your family have regular backcountry excursions? Were you a member of Chilliwack Search and Rescue, the Chilliwack Outdoor Club, or did your Guides group explore the Skagits? Do you remember your family going out for berry picking excursions, or do you participate in cultural activities in the mountains? Maybe you are ready to retire your old backpack or the trusty hikers that got you through many the upcountry trail... If so, get in touch with our Curator! Email Adrienne@ chilliwackmuseum.ca, call 604-795-5210, or stop by the Archives at 9291 Corbould St (open M, W, F 9am to 4:30pm; Tu and Th by appointment). We are interested in a range of modern, as well as traditional and historic stories, photos and artifacts.

TIME TO REBOOT Third annual TEDxChilliwack event

April 14 TED Talks, a world phenomenon since 1984 G.W. Graham Theatre 45955 Thomas Rd. Helping people connect in an environment that inspires the expression of unique points of view and celebrates perspectives from our local community.

CHILLIWACK GEARS UP FOR TEDX By Adam Louis

Chilliwack's got an idea. 16 of them, to be precise. The last of three preliminary speaker showcase nights has wrapped up and the final 16 speakers are getting ready for Chilliwack's very own TEDx event on April 14 at the G.W. Graham Theatre. Scott McVetty, former speaker, coach and the chief judge, is impressed with this year's speaker line-up and how the event has grown over the past three years, from its start at the Chilliwack Museum and Archives in 2016. “Every year, the number of applicants goes up exponentially, and every year, it gets harder and harder to decide,” he said. He added that every one of the speaker showcase nights has sold out this year. McVetty said Chilliwack's TEDx events are set apart because, according to McVetty, it is the only event of its kind to host an applicant

showcase night and have the audience vote on a people's choice. McVetty said those who purchase tickets can expect a variety of topics and ideas exchanged. This year's theme is Time to Reboot. “The goal of the showcase nights is to get the best ensemble of speakers we can get,” McVetty said. “TED stands for technology, entertainment and design. We wanted to try to get as much of those three things as we could.” This year's winning speakers are Sid Anandkumar, Mehrnaz Bassiri, Dr. Carin Bondar. Christopher Bush, Debbie Calicetto, Lee Davies, Brenda Dyck, Cara Halber, Chief David Jimmie, William Klaassen, David Leger, Don Nixdorf, Brett Piperni, Dan Pontefract, Cliff Prang and Jacqueline Windh. If you're interested in more information about the winning speakers and their topics, or if you want to purchase tickets (act fast; they sell out quick!), they are currently on sale at www.tedxchilliwack.com.
