It wasn’t something she planned, but Chilliwack fashion designer Anelia Basson found herself showing her colourful creations during one of the biggest fashion events in the world. Basson said the organizers of Vancouver Fashion Week (VFW) reached out to her after perusing her Instagram account (@anelia.art) and seeing her bright, sunny creations. Basson said she got her start in fashion by infusing eco-friendly fabrics with bright, whismical colours, melding art and fashion into a new, bright, beautiful something; altogether. She stands proudly by her ﬂamboyant use of colours and the healing powers thereof. “Vancouver is so dark in the winter time; nobody can see you,” Basson said. “We should be brighter and not go and hide away. If green is your colour, wear it! People feel better when they wear certain colours.

The CSCL Hockey Alumni Series continues… The Chilliwack Society for Community Living (CSCL) is thrilled to welcome the Boston Bruins Alumni Tour to a game at Prospera Centre on Saturday, February 23, 2019. The Big, Bad Bruins will play a group of local hockey players, the Chilly Wackers, in a game consisting of three 15 minute periods. All proceeds go to the Chilliwack Society for Community Living to help support adults with developmental disabilities and children and youth with special needs. By Archivist: Located in the back section of our permanent exhibit is an interactive discovery bin station. The discovery bins provide a more hands on and interactive experience for visitors of all ages, though they tend to appeal largely to children. For children, these bins help them learn about and test out tools (or rather artifacts) people once used in their home, work or everyday life.For other visitors, the artifacts in the bins can be a trip down memory lane, as they see familiar items that may have been found in their childhood homeâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s kitchen or toy bin.

We currently have six themed discovery bins available for exploration. The themes are farming, home, toy, travel, education and local First Nations history. In each bin various artifacts are provided along with interactive games, worksheets, and information on the artifacts. The worksheets can be helpful in starting the conversation about what something is and how it may haveFamily be used. The most iconic produce stand in Chilliwackâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s history might just be Christieâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Produce Stand.

Christieâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Service Station, 1936 James Christie and Caroline Runzer married in 1925 at the age of 38 and 25 respectively. The relatively new immigrants to Canada opened a restaurant in Stony Plain, Alberta. In 1935 a devastating fire destroyed their restaurant so the couple packed up shop and moved to Chilliwack. They purchased land on Yale Road West just south of Cheam Avenue near the gates of the City for $600. Upon arrival in Chilliwack, James immediately built a Standard Oil gas station that contained the living quarters for the family and a small lunch counter. The gas station was sold in 1939. A newer Chevron station still operates at the same location as Christieâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s gas station. In a 2005 interview, James and Carolineâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s daughter Audrey Neufeld recalled how, â&#x20AC;&#x153;Dad was quite an entrepreneur, he had all

Festive Scandinavian cookies, though no-one seems to know their exact origins. K_\j\ jdXcc jg_\i\j f] Ylkk\i# Ô fli# gfn[\i\[ jl^Xi Xe[ elkj# [ljk\[ n`k_ more powdered sugar for good measure are a Christmas delight. Makes: 20-24 cookies, Preparation time: 20 minutes, Cooking time: 8-10 minutes

1 cup / 225g butter or vegan butter 1/2 cup / 60g confectioners sugar ) (&* Zlgj & *''^ Xcc gligfj\ Ô fli#

Preheat oven to 400F / 200C / Gas mark 6 Cream the butter and sugar together k_fifl^_cp% 8[[ Ô fli# jXck# mXe`ccX Xe[ pecans, and mix well. Cover dough and chill for half an hour. Form dough into small balls (about 1 inch / 2.5cm diameter). If the dough seems too crumbly don’t be tempted to add water or the resulting cookies will be hard, just let the heat from your hands gradually bring it all together. Place 2 inches / 5cm apart on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake until set but NOT brown (8-10 minutes). Allow to cool for 3 minutes before removing from baking sheet, then roll in icing sugar. When completely cool, roll in the confectioners sugar again. They make lovely festive handmade gifts in pretty boxes.
