Found In The Forest As a television producer I’ve travelled the world searching for unique and interesting stories to tell. Lucky for me an amazing story fell into my lap when we enrolled our son in the Environmental School Project. The school is unique in many ways, the learning is mostly hands on, outdoors and uses the natural environment. As we became more involved with the community, it became apparent that it was a very special school and it highlighted the fact that we need to talk more about how we educated our children.
www.FoundInTheForest.com
Found In The Forest is a documentary I’m producing exploring the Environmental School Project. The film will investigate the differences between it and traditional schools, looking at the style of learning, ecological involvement, class structure, and the impact of outdoor learning on the children. With the school still in it’s infancy, questions have come up about many aspects of the school which parents, educators and researchers are working to find the answers. I’ve been closely documenting the school from day one and I’ve accumulated a wealth of compelling footage which I’ll combine with interviews from a wide range of people involved with the school. The goal of the film is to spread the word that there can be options for children and parents.

Sweet senior Jazzy was brought to us from another shelter. She’s a friendly girl who loves getting attention from anyone willing to give it to her, and she gets along very well with other cats. Because she is a senior girl, please talk to us about a possible permanent foster situation. Lauren was hanging around a property for several months, clearly homeless. Poor Lauren hasn’t had anyone he could trust for a while and he was nervous of us when he first arrived. As his trust grows, Lauren seeks out attention and accepts petting. Lauren only wants the chance to show someone what a good family member he can be again.

History Goes to
Market
On Saturday, August 4th, from 9am to 2pm, museum staff will host a historic display on the bandstand in Memorial Peace Park alongside the Haney Farmer’s Market. Join us as we celebrate “Our Sporting Life.” Members of the “We Call It Haney!!” Facebook group will also be present and selling Haney themed stickers and other memorabilia.
All Dolled Up Starting in June, the Maple Ridge Museum will have on display various dolls and doll accessories from its collection. Most notably the display will feature a selection of artifacts from resident Daphne Clowes; from ceramic dolls, to toy wicker furniture to a large collection of paper dolls from the 1930s. In addition to ceramic and paper dolls, the museum will also be showcasing a brand new collection piece; a toy pram from the mid-1930s, donated by Maple Ridge resident, Shirley Goetzen, who also donated two adorable vinyl dolls with the carriage.
Summer hours for both the Haney House Museum and the Maple Ridge Museum began July 4; Wednesday – Sunday from 1-4pm. Drop by the museum this summer to see the exhibit. Library Displays Starting July 1st and carrying through until Sept 1st the Maple Ridge Museum will have various displays rotating in the Maple Ridge Library. Archery and Dairy Farms will be on display in July, and our summer student staff will be curating the displays in August. Stop by this summer to check out the artifacts and photographs!

Sarah Eales The right fit in Realestate! Welcome to What's On in Real Estate!
In 2009 seven-year-old Jakob Vorlicek had an idea. He wanted to organize a street hockey tournament. His motivation was twofold - to play hockey with neighbours and friends, while raising money for children who could not otherwise afford to play hockey. And so it started. We hosted three arenas allowing various age groups to play together. One arena was an adult game, with players of various skill levels. They played long and hard for the entire afternoon. The youth arena brought together local children and the third was for the wee ones. A skills area was introduced in 2010. This year we are proud to announce the 4th Annual Hockey Day @ Osprey Village onWednesday August 29th from 4pm to 7pm. We will have all three arenas, the skills area, a BBQ, vendors and special guests. All donations and BBQ Bring a stick and one to share, and join Jakob and the Pitt Meadows Community Association in our fundraising efforts with a friendly afternoon game of street hockey.

Feeling Hot? Air conditioner? No A/C? Tips for cooling off: • Use fans, ceiling or standing. However, use them only when you are in the room with them. Fans give you the feeling of being cooler without actually changing the temperature of the air. When you run a fan in a room that you don't occupy, you simply add the heat from the motor to the room. Opening your windows at night helps cool down the house. • Change your furnace filter every few months. This is important whenever the system is running, winter or summer. A dirty filter slows down the airflow through the system and creates many performance problems. • Have your air conditioner serviced by a reputable dealer. Dirty coils and the wrong charge have a dramatic effect on efficiency & performance. • Change light bulbs to compact fluorescents, which burn cooler. You save year-round, over the life of the bulb, and in the summer you'll add less heat to a room. www.saraheales.com saraheales@royallepage.ca Sarah’s Cell: 604.202.7272 Jessica’s Cell: 604.614.3390

This fundraiser for the CEED Centre Society is maturing into a prominent social event in the Maple Ridge calendar, proving that people inherently want to support local/sustainable food and drink. Over 300 guests were at the celebration, including both the local MLAs, it was well attended across the political spectrum, proving that good causes can successfully focus on the things that unite us.

This year’s eco-gala had overwhelming community support that made a huge difference in the financial outcome. Corporate sponsors included Home n Work Mortgages and Maple Ridge Gaming Centre, who between them covered most of the hard costs associated with the event. Meadowridge School donated their beautiful venue, adding an elegance all it’s own. And what a party! The vendors (chefs, restaurants, dairies, wineries, breweries) doubled in number and the attendance was up over 50%.
