An Irish Christmas at Gateway Church in Abbotsford, December 14th and 15th.
Producer Calvin Dyck is pulling together a delightful show including 20 championship dancers from the Steel School of Irish Dance, “The Alumni Project� an outstanding chamber choir from Abbotsford, the award-winning Abbotsford Youth Orchestra and some surprises for the audience including an “Uilleann Piper� from Ireland. This community Christmas concert has become an annual tradition for Abbotsford with 2300 people attending last year’s production. Audiences love the variety of styles, the mix of professional and community talent and the high quality of the presentation. This year’s music will include traditional Irish carols including the “Wexford Carol�, “I Saw Three Ships�, “Once in Royal David’s City� and “Christmas in Killarney�. In addition the orchestra will perform arrangements from the Getty’s album “Joy – an Irish Christmas� and a Mercy Me arrangement of “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen� with local tenor Michael Berg.
The Uilleann Pipes are an Irish version of the famous Scottish bagpipes. The instrument name literally means “pipes of the elbowâ€? referring to a set of bellows which are operated by the elbow, and players usually play this instrument “indoorsâ€? and most often while sitting down. Canadian Adaptation of Jane Austen’s
Pride & Prejudice Gallery 7 Theatre is thrilled to open their 2018-2019 ‘Back to Classics’ Theatre Season with the Jane Austen classic, Pride and Prejudice, adapted by Canadian playwright, Tom Wood. Described as “a sparkling…adaptation, delightful and absorbing” and ‘outstanding…radiates intelligence and heart” by the Edmonton Journal, Pride and Prejudice will be presented live on-stage November 9 – 17, 2018 at the Abbotsford Arts Centre. With her daughters reaching marriageable age and the family finances running dangerously thin, Mrs. Bennet endeavours to find the perfect match for each of her girls. But her plans are stymied when Elizabeth, upon hearing not-so-kind comments from the surly and morose Mr. Darcy, develops a hostility towards the man. Can the two overcome their personal pride and the prejudice they feel towards each other and discover true love? “I think audiences will find our production to be a faithful adaptation of the Jane Austen classic novel,” explains Gallery 7 Theatre’s Executive/Artistic Director, Ken Hildebrandt. “All your favourite characters are in this show, and I think people will really delight in Mrs. Bennet’s undying attempts to have her daughters marry the right gentleman and the electric relationship between Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy. The show promises to be a highly entertaining and riveting theatre experience for all ages.” The role of the independent thinking Elizabeth Bennet is Shannon Tauber. Tauber last appeared in Gallery 7 Theatre’s production of Enchanted April. Playing the role of Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy is Adriel Brandt, who last appeared in Gallery 7 Theatre’s production of The Mousetrap in May. The role of Mrs. Bennett will be played by Shelley Picard while Mr. Bennet will be played by Lawrence Locke. Playing Jane, Mary, Lydia and Kitty Bennet will be played by Sophie Heinrichs, Meghan Franklin, Keria Meredith and Dylan Schroeder respectively. The kind-hearted Charles Bingley will be played by Brady Moore and the pandering Reverend William Collins will be played by Todd Klassen. Rounding out the cast is Karis Duncalfe, Angel Duron-Heon, Kenzie Hall, Meghan Hanet, Evan Rau, Matthew Taekema, and Matthew Veenbaas. Directing the cast of 17 performers, some of who will be playing multiple characters, is Trinity Western University theatre graduate, Nicola Prigge. Prigge has extensive theatre experience as an actor, director and stage manager. She last appeared on the Gallery 7 Theatre stage as Sister James in the company’s production of Doubt, A Parable. She is supported by an equally talented and experienced design team. Set design is by Jeff Kiers, costume design is by Dani DeJong, lighting design is by Ken Hildebrandt and sound design is by Ryan Scramstad. Props design and production photography is by Dianna Lewis, dance choreography is by Samara Judd, and make-up design is by Danielle Milette.

Abbotsford Children’s Theatre Friday, December 14th at 7:00 pm Saturday, December 15th at 1:00 pm Matsqui Centennial Auditorium Come in from the beastly weather and enjoy a beauty of a play as Abbotsford Children’s Theatre (ACT) performs “Beauty and the Beast” this December. The play has been adapted from the novel by Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve by playwright Vera Morris and has a different spin from the version we all know so well. Our story begins with a selfish prince who learns the hard way that you should always treat your elders kindly. His beastly actions lead to his transformation into a true beast. Beauty’s mother plucks a rose she shouldn’t and runs into trouble with the Beast. The villains include Beauty’s two sisters and her brothers-in-law Greedo and Graspo. There won’t be any talking teapots, but a chatty lamp, mop, and broom will sweep you away. Hungry wolves, naughty fairies, and an enchanted looking glass add to the action. Join Abbotsford Children’s Theatre and support young theatrical talent in our community. The cast of 43 energetic and vibrant young actors aged 10 - 16 will entertain and delight audiences of all ages.

contests. Entering pageants, a little late in life has been a bit challenging, but it has taught me that age is just a number. Although truly, in my heart I believe every woman is a queen in her own right, whether it comes with a crown or not. 1 cup / 225g butter or vegan butter 1/2 cup / 60g confectioners sugar ) (&* Zlgj & *''^ Xcc gligfj\ Ô fli# sifted ¼ tsp salt 1 tsp vanilla essence 3/4 cup /100g pecan nuts or walnuts, Z_fgg\[ Ó e\ Extra confectioners sugar for dusting
Preheat oven to 400F / 200C / Gas mark 6 Cream the butter and sugar together k_fifl^_cp% 8[[ Ô fli# jXck# mXe`ccX Xe[ pecans, and mix well. Cover dough and chill for half an hour. Form dough into small balls (about 1 inch / 2.5cm diameter). If the dough seems too crumbly don’t be tempted to add water or the resulting cookies will be hard, just let the heat from your hands gradually bring it all together. Place 2 inches / 5cm apart on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake until set but NOT brown (8-10 minutes). Allow to cool for 3 minutes before removing from baking sheet, then roll in icing sugar. When completely cool, roll in the confectioners sugar again. They make lovely festive handmade gifts in pretty boxes.
