13th Annual Christmas Country Benefit Concert for Meals on Wheels Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Community Services is proud to host its 13th Annual Christmas Country Benefit Concert for Meals on Wheels on Saturday, November 28. The concert provides essential funding for our Meals on Wheels program. The primary goal of Meals on Wheels is to support seniors to live independently in their homes for as long as possible. It is an essential service in our community that provides healthy, well-balanced, nutritious meals to seniors and others in need who are unable to prepare meals due to health or disability. In addition to the provision of a nutritional meal, another benefit of Meals on Wheels is the social contact seniors receive when our volunteers deliver the meals. Close to 75% of the seniors are over the age of 80, with many living alone and at risk of isolation.
For many seniors the visit from a volunteer is, at times, the only contact they have in a day and it’s an opportunity to check on their safety. Don’t miss the opportunity to support Meals on Wheels and attend this great family event, featuring modern country music sensation Rob Hess. During the concert a Silent Auction (free to attend) is held in the foyer. Previous attendees have said “This is the best Silent Auction I’ve ever attended!” and “I finished my Christmas shopping with all these great auction items.” November 28 (1:30 -4 pm) at The ACT Theatre. All tickets just $14. For more info call 604.467.6911 or see our Events Page at comservice.bc.ca.

Royal Canadian Legion Remembrance Day Ceremonies Lest we forget... On November 11 Canadians wear poppies and gather at war memorials across Canada to pay tribute to those who died in war. At the 11th hourr of the 11th day of the 11th month, the time the Armistice of Wo World War I was signed in 1918, we observe two minutes of silence to remember. On Tuesday, November 11‌‌ at 10:30 am, the parade leaves the Legion on 224th Street and heads into downtown Maple Ridge, ending at the cenotaph in Memorial Peace Park. After WKH SDUDGH WKH QDWLRQDO DQWKHP LV VXQJ DQG WKH RIĂ€FLDO FHUHPRQ\ EHJLQV DW am. Our MC for this event is Margaret Kury. In Pitt Meadows the Parade marches to the Cenotaph at Spirit Square. Sandi Wight will MC the Ceremony there at 11am. Each ceremony includes reading of the names of soldiers from the community who have died in wars, the Laying of the Wreaths (from organizations or individuals in the communities), a blessing, a reading of the poem “In Flander’s Fieldsâ€?, and the playing of the Last Post. Please jjoin the Legion g to honour the men and women who so bravely served and continue to o servve ou ourr co c mmunity.
In Flanders ďŹ eld, the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, y Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved, and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders ďŹ elds. Take up our quarrel with the foe; To you from falling hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die, We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders ďŹ elds

We offer an authentic Montessori environment with trained Montessori teachers. Montessori education is a very real, organic way of showing your child respect. Maria Montessori encouraged adults to recognize and respect the child’s need for truth and reality. She emphasized providing real, child-sized tools to acknowledge and support the child’s need for work which develops order, concentration, coordination, and independence.
