“Our Precious Charlie Bear... I’m so glad we found the Doctors at Head To Tail Veterinary hospital. We found out more about Charlie’s health in one appointment than we had in years of appointments with other vets. Had we found Dr Stuart earlier Charlie would not have suffered as much as he did over his last few years. Unfortunately Charlie passed away shortly after we found this brilliant vet but I’m very glad he had Dr Stuart at his side for this difficult and upsetting decision. I cannot speak more highly of her and all the staff at Head To Tail.” Jane Marshall

Looking for a Home to Call Their Own. Twinning came into our shelter with her beloved long-time companion Salada. They came in from a deplorable, hoarder situation. They were inseparable and you would always see them together. Salada was her protector and her constant companion. Unfortunately Salada had cancer that could not be treated and died before they could find a home. Now Twinning is left behind more confused and uncertain than before. She needs a quiet home where she can spend the remaining years of her life in peace. Twinning is a senior girl of about 14 and therefore we are more than happy to adopt her out as a permanent foster. Please come and meet this sweet old gal who has lost everything that ever mattered to her. You can be the one who makes it all ok again. Roi was found living on a rooftop. He is a very friendly boy who enjoys attention, pets, and cuddles. Lots and lots of cuddles. At some point in his life Roi was a beloved family pet because he is so extremely gentle, easy-going and actually enjoys being brushed and fussed over. He can be an only pet or a companion to another cat or mellow, small dog. Roi has been with us for some time, and we really cannot figure out why, and as the days, weeks, and months pass we see him getting more and more depressed. This boy really deserves a place he will feel safe, loved and cared for. Come meet Roi and give this boy that place.
To adopt a homeless cat or bunny please call 604-463-7917 Or visit: www.katiesplaceshelter.com • 10255 Jackson Avenue, Maple Ridge

Warm... Ingredients
Beef Bourguignon Revive the 1970s with this retro dish!
2lb /900g braising steak, cut into 2” cubes 3 tbsp olive oil - 1 small onion, finely chopped 1 tbsp plain flour - 15fl oz/425ml red wine 2 cloves garlic, chopped - 2 sprigs of thyme 2 bay leaves 12 small onions, peeled and left whole 225g/8oz thick cut, smoked bacon, chopped into 1” pieces 100g /4oz button mushrooms, left whole Salt and freshly ground black pepper
Method Heat half the oil in a heavy bottomed casserole dish and brown the beef, a few pieces at a time. Transfer the browned pieces to a plate. Add the chopped onion and garlic to the pan and brown that a little too. Return the cubes of beef to the pan and sprinkle in the flour, stirring to soak up the juices. Gradually add the red wine, stirring continuously. Add the herbs and seasoning, put the lid on and cook very very gently on top of the stove for one and half hours. Using the rest of the olive oil fry the small whole onions and bacon pieces in a small frying pan until they are golden. Add them to the casserole with the mushrooms. Cover and cook for a further one and a half hours. Serve with lightly steamed carrots and potatoes.
Penne with Kale and Sun-dried Tomatoes Kale is packed with calcium, vitamins and other nutrients as well as being full of fibre. It’s already classed as a super food, but this simple supper dish proves that it’s super-tasty too.

Fairytale Dresses, Beautiful Jewellery & all we need is you!
Twice in a Lifetime! January 25th – 26th 11 am – 3pm
Twice in a Lifetime is a fantastic fundraiser. The evening gives young graduates the chance to purchase a once used grad dress of their dreams on consignment over a 2 day period. All sizes, colours, sequins and sparkle are available for that touch of glamour! There is a $25 registration fee per dress and a $10.00 fee for any additional dresses. The registration money collected goes to the Evening of Glitz event to help those grads that are unable to purchase any type of grad clothing for their special day. The selling price of the dress goes directly to the one selling it. It is a win/win for the seller and buyer!
Where? Greg Moore Youth Centre, Multi-purpose Room Maple Ridge For more information contact: Yvonne Murray at Thomas Haney Secondary School 604-463-2001
An Evening of Glitz! March 5th Putting on the Glitz is hosting our 2nd annual “Evening Of Glitz” to help provide local high school graduates, facing financial constraints, with formal attire, so they may attend their graduation festivities with pride.
On The Night… Let The Fun Begin! The female graduates start the evening by selecting a gown, shoes, purse and accessories. What would the outfit be without a handbag… or shoes? And finding the right accessories is a must! Participants then get their hair and makeup done by professional stylists and makeup artists. If dresses need minor alterations, there are seamstresses on site for that perfect fit! Then It’s Photo Shoot Time! The event culminates with a professional photography session to capture their “Evening of Glitz”. The participants enjoy music, treats and fun throughout the evening, with a wonderful assortment of refreshments for everyone!
Are Boys Invited To The Event? Yes, boys are invited to the event as well!! Funds are raised for the boys to have a tux rental for their grad evening, (or if they prefer, they may choose to pick from the suits at the event instead). Boys attend the event a little later in the evening to get their cap and gown photos done. Before they leave, all of our grads are given gift bags filled with makeup, toiletries and gift cards enabling them to get their hair and make up done on their actual graduation day. How Are Youth Referred To The Program? Referrals come from SD 42 School Counsellors. For more information contact: Michelle Cherak PLEA Community Services – KidStart Mentoring Program 604-476-2821

COMMUNITY DINNERS Bringing the Community Together!
Every Saturday at Golden Ears United Church. Volunteers arrive about 5:30 pm to prepare the food and the dinner begins about 6:30. After a very warm welcome each guest receives a hot meal. There is also coffee and tea and other drinks plus desserts depending on the donations that have arrived. A local business generously donates their left over baking which becomes the dessert for our dinners. Sandwiches are given out for people to take home for the next day. Although many people that come to the dinner are less fortunate, everyone is encouraged to attend. There is a caring and comfortable atmosphere, with fun, chatter and a friendly ear.
So How Did It All Start?
About ten years ago, Teri and Robert Mitchell felt there was a need to help less fortunate people in the community. Teri and Robert began to hand out sandwiches and coffee every second Saturday night in front of the shop where he worked. This ministry has evolved from this humble beginning, through a couple of years where the CEED Centre generously allowed us to use their facilities, to the present day where a full hot meal is served in the comfort of Golden Ears United Church hall. Robert sadly died of cancer in 2010 shortly after he was ordained as a deacon in the Anglican Church. Teri continues to honour his memory by helping the less fortunate and organizing the community dinners.
How Many People Attend?
The numbers of people served has gone from about 30 when they started to about an average of 80 and up to, on occasion over 100.

Tell Us A Bit About The Volunteers‌
Volunteers come from a variety of backgrounds. Volunteers are encouraged to be respectful and kind and although the community dinner is church based there is no prophesying allowed. Helping at the community dinner is busy but volunteers go home with a smile on their faces as it is a wonderful feeling to help share with others.
Do You Need More Help?
Every contribution is welcomed and there is always a need for a variety of support including volunteers. Individuals and businesses help in different ways, making monetary donations or help by serving food and cleaning up.
How can People Get In Touch or Get Involved?
If you would like to help or need more information please contact Teri at terim100@telus.net. St. Georges Church at 604 463-9622 or Golden Ears United Church at 604 463-9611 The community dinner is an outreach program of St. George’s Anglican Church Street Ministry.

We operate solely on the donations from caring individuals, the generosity of local businesses, and the amazing volunteers involved in our Foster Care program.
Meet Billie! (With Santa) Age: 3 years | Breed: Chihuahua Mix | Dogs: Yes, Cats: Yes, Kids: Yes Billie is a people-loving girl who is independent but still enjoys being held. Her housetraining is coming along well and she needs a bit of leash-training, but she’s a sweet girl with tons of love to give! Billie isn’t a huge fan of the wet-and-cold outdoors and prefers to be inside with you. She sleeps great at night (loves to be in the human bed!)
Meet Mocha! (to the left) Age: 3-5 Years | Breed: Chihuahua Mix | Dogs: Yes, Kids: Older, Cats: Not tested Mocha is a very mellow, loving dog who loves to sit on your lap and cuddle and is not demanding in the least. She’s good with other dogs, and we are recommending older children for now. She has not yet been tested with cats however has been fine with her foster family’s Parrot!
