Death Among The Delphiniums! February 22nd – March 10th It’s summer, 1947, and Lady Florence Andering-Ffyffe and her daughter Enid are expecting a visit from their old friends the Millsbys. But shortly after their arrival, a young man is found brutally murdered in the delphinium patch. Detective Inspector Volper is summoned, but Lady Florence is unhelpful, Mrs Millsby is meddling and before long another body shows up. This Agatha Christie-style murder mystery is a rollicking whodun-it, with plenty of twists and turns and a surprise ending!

January 21st INESCAPABLE – Canadian

February 18th STORIES WE TELL - Canadian

Tickets for $10 at the door.

Successful Syrian-Canadian businessman Adib (Siddig, Miral, Syriana) lives a comfortable life in Toronto with his loving wife and two collegeaged daughters. On a typical afternoon at work, he receives a devastating piece of news: while vacationing in Greece, his eldest daughter secretly took a detour to Damascus — and vanished. Frantic, Adib immediately makes plans to return to Syria after more than thirty years.

It’s 1984, and as Michael Jackson’s Thriller dominates the airwaves, eleven year-old MJ devotee Boy (newcomer James Rolleston) dreams of the day when his long-absent father will return to take him and his younger brother Rocky away from their Nan’s home in New Zealand’s Bay of Plenty to see his one-gloved idol live.

Stories We Tell is the acclaimed feature documentary debut from award-winning Canadian actor and filmmaker Sarah Polley. In the few short years since Polley first revealed her remarkable talents as a writer and director, audiences have already come to expect the aesthetic rigour and reserved yet deeply felt emotion she brings to her studies of human relationships.

Five Best Diet Changes A new year - a new start. How can you start improving your diet and your chances of leading a healthier lifestyle? First – eat breakfast! After many hours without food our bodies need refuelling to bring the blood sugar back up and ensure the brain and muscles are functioning properly. Eating breakfast aids concentration and creates energy. Drink more water We lose on average 2-4 litres of water a day, which needs to be replaced. Current advice is to drink 6-8 glasses daily to ensure that our brain, blood and muscles are able to function at their best. Eat more fruit and vegetables Their vitamins and minerals boost the immune system, whilst antioxidants fight cancer and disease, and fibre cleanses the gut. We should eat five portions per day. Eat less red meat Reduce the risk of bowel and other cancers. Health experts suggest 500g per week (the equivalent of one steak, one pork chop, 2 sausages and a portion of Bolognese sauce) or 70g per day (three rashes of bacon). Eat more consciously Take time to really taste and savour the food in your mouth. Be aware of the textures and flavours - and chances are you will enjoy your food more whilst eating less of it! Remember, you are what you eat. Eat healthy, be healthy! By Debbie Singh-Bhatti

Gallery 7 Theatre is pleased to present: Mary’s Wedding January 18 & 19, 24 – 26, 31 – February 2 Canadian playwright Stephen Massicotte’s beautiful and heart-rending play about love, loss, war and peace. On the night before her wedding, Mary dreams of love, war, what was and what could be. Her thoughts focus on her first love, Charlie, who she met by chance in a barn while seeking shelter from a prairie thunderstorm. An innocent romance develops, only to be thwarted by the turbulent times of 1914. Separated by war, Charlie sends letters from the front, and a story of love, loss and healing emerges in a poetic theatre experience written by one of Canada’s leading playwrights. Directed by Katherine Hill and featuring Annette Reilly and Matt Veenbaas, Mary’s Wedding runs MEI Auditorium, 4081 Clearbrook Road, Abbotsford. Tickets can be purchased: In person at House of James, 2743 Emerson Street, Abbotsford, By phone at 604-852-3701 Online at www.gallery7theatre.com.

Have You Seen The New Mission “Riseâ€? Youth Mural? About 10 years ago, Doug Cariou from Cyrus Art and Barry McLeod from Mission Youth Unlimited began to talk about the possibility of involving youth in the creation of a wall mural. The conversation ďŹ nally became a reality in the fall of 2012 with the creation of the Mission RISE Youth Mural. A District of Mission 120th anniversary grant, along with the support of numerous businesses, enabled us to complete this project. The mural portrays 6 young people from Mission involved in activities that they excel at: Jason Page - BMXer, Wesley McLeod - Junior Hockey Goalie, Carly Rae Jepsen - Singer/Songwriter, Natalie Charlton Stave Falls Scottish Dancer, Amanda ShefďŹ eld - F. V. A. D. Ballet Dancer & Josiah Cariou - Skateboarder 11 Mission youth helped with the painting: Devan Locke, Videographer - Ruth Cariou, Cameron McLeod, Hailly Martin, Raz Boca, Trevor Bentley, Cecil Smith Williams, Zach Cariou, Turia McLean Smith, Ronald Smith Williams, Aisha Smith. The mural is located in the parking lot of the Eleni’s Restaurant on N. Railway in Downtown Mission. A video showing a time lapse of the mural painting is available on www.whatsonmission.ca. Post Cards of the mural will also be available in local stores. Proceeds will be used to maintain the mural and for other youth art projects. For more info contact Barry at barry@youthunlimited.com.
