Cadiz If you took a step back in time and walked downtown Main Street before the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, you would find the same buildings dominating the city. After all these years the important elements of the city and county landscape still remain. The present day courthouse, completed in 1922 stands today, both serving as a center of county government and a witness to times past. Buildings built before we were born are reminiscent of days gone by, and yet they remain the basic building blocks of the city and its landscape.

Try renting a houseboat or pontoon at one of the many marinas for a great vacation. Come see the splendor of Western Kentucky for yourself. Points of Interest: Kentucky Lake • Lake Barkley • Land Between The Lakes • Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park • Lake Barkley State Resort Park • Kenlake State Resort Park

Madisonville Scenic Downtown Madisonville boasts brick sidewalks and lamp-lighted streets that lead to many quaint shops and inviting eateries. Baker Gallery with exhibits throughout the year.

Feel the movement in this vibrant river town, located off Interstate 24 in Western Kentucky. Visit the Lower Town studios/galleries and discover objects d’art you’ll treasure and meet the artists who created them. The elegant displays in the Museum of the American Quilter’s society highlight the vigorous rebirth of quiltmaking that began in the 1970’s. The River Heritage Museum, a “Save America’s Treasures” project, features interactive exhibits that tell the stories of the four rivers region. Just around the corner, the Carson Center boasts a year-round performance schedule featuring big name entertainers and professional traveling productions. Rough

Rough River is one of the state’s most popular lakes for boating and fishing. Campers and hikers enjoy the endless nature trails and convenient beaches. Old mills, historic farms, outdoor theatre, go carts and golf make the Falls of Rough fun for the whole family.

Harrodsburg Some people say Harrodsburg is where Kentucky began. It was the first permanent English settlement west of the Alleghenies and was established in 1774. Many of the homes and buildings around town reflect Harrodsburg’s more than 200 years of history and culture. Old Fort Harrod showcases the early frontier life with live craftspeople.

Places to go Bowling Green

SOUTH CENTRAL REGION

During the Civil War, Bowling Green was the Confederate Capital of Kentucky and now is known as the Corvette Capital of the world. Its historic downtown dates back to 1798. Some points of interest are The Corvette Museum and Kentucky Museum which showcases much of Kentucky’s history through photographs, manuscripts, and artifacts; as well as, an original log home decorated with authentic 1830’s furnishings.

Burnside The community was originally settled at the juncture of the Cumberland River and the South Fork River. It was called Point Isabele, the town was renamed for General Ambrose Burnside who established a camp there during the war. A sign at the edge of town declares Burnside “Birthplace of Boy Scouts of America”, and an official state historical society marker commemorates the troop. In 2005, Burnside became the only town in Pulaski County to allow the sale of alcoholic beverages by the drink in qualified establishments. Since then, Burnside annexed several miles of shoreline along Lake Cumberland in order to include Lee’s Ford Marina, allowing it to sell alcohol. 48
