Our magazine was created ﬁfteen years ago to provide spiritual pilgrims with a support network and a resource magazine to help us understand our spiritual journey. I do not have to tell you that we live in confusing times and now, more than at any other time, we face spiritual challenges unknown to our grandparents. Power of Intention

Intention within your mind is the key for your ultimate reality. If you never have an intention within your mind, you won’t have a direction within your life. If you don’t enjoy the life you are living, it is because you are not reading your reality sufficiently and most likely because you haven’t structured the creation of your future within your mind. Everything starts inside your mind and is then reflected out to become your reality. If you never start anything within your mind, you will never start anything in your reality. To master this creation, you need to master being fully present in the moment and to be consciously involved in creating your reality. Too many people state; “I don’t know what to do with my life! My mind is blank!”, and that’s just it, if their mind is blank, then so is their reality - it will not progress into anything. You will constantly live your life in the same pattern, over and over again. In order to change, you need to take responsibility and change the way you structure and process information within your mind. You need to hold a vision, take physical action to move towards it and trust in the process of creation. Remember, there are two factors at work – the conscious and the unconscious. Let them function together in harmony. Energy follows intention and the more energy you put behind the intention, the faster it will be manifested into an experience. But there needs to be a balance between polarities; if you reject one then you only strengthen it as it needs to be recognized as a part of the whole. Learn to live within acceptance of all that is and how to let go of emotions that no longer serve you. Structure the future in your mind, remember that your thoughts and emotions create your reality, so if you’re going to think, you may as well take conscious control of it, right!? What does your future look like? Does it have a direction or is it all disorganized? Do you have goals? If you don’t, begin to structure that future in your minds imagination- a goal without a plan is just a dream. Write down all the things you want and why it is important for you to create them. What are your strategies? Picture your future in front of you; tell your mind what you want! This is the most important thing you can do. Think about what you are good at. Don’t tell yourself you’re not good at anything because that’s not true. Everyone has that certain something they are good at, whatever it may be, and if you’re good at it you will have a passion and dedication to do it. Leave whatever you are not good at up to people who are good at it. Create who you want to become with enough intensity and you cannot help to get that experience. And remember to listen to the heart. The heart carries your purpose – it will speak to you if you are willing surrender to it. Thank yourself for having that past and all the lessons, knowledge and resources it has given you. Don’t make it dark and useless; make it bright, interesting and useful! The past only exists within the imagination of your mind. With the use of conscious modification you can change the way the past is represented so it supports you and begins to move you towards who you want to create yourself into being. This identification you have as a human being isn’t who you truly are; it’s only an experience; so create the being that you want to become. Look at yourself in the mirror and ask; who am I? Do you like who you are? If you don’t, then create the you inside of your mind that you do like and become that you. Act as if you already have achieved your goals and desires; what can you see, hear, feel, smell and taste when you have achieved them? Where are you? What do you look like? This way the mind will begin to modify and match the frequency of the reality you are resonating through your emotional and vibrational state. The mind cannot tell the difference between what is vividly imagined and what is actual reality so use your imagination because it will get you anywhere you want to go. Ifyouwanttohavetherealityyoudesireyoualsohavetodropthebeliefoffailing.Failuredoesnotexistifyoubelieveeverythingisalearningprocess.Everysuccessfulcreator looks at life this way. It took Thomas Edison more than 10,000 attempts before he finally invented the light bulb. He said: “Every time I fail, I am one step closer” which was thereasonwhyhedidn’tquit.RichardBandlerreferstofailingas‘simplynotgivingyourselfenoughtime’.Failureisalearningprocess,notanend.Soexpectfailuretohappen, make it a part of your life, it shows you how to do things differently. Truly, there is no way you can fail at what you are doing; you can only learn how to do things differently! The last thing I want to mention is to never, ever limit your beliefs. Keep an open mind and only have an understanding of what possibilities can potentially exist. Expand your consciousness and make everything an opportunity to grow and evolve. The challenges in your life are there to serve you in order for your consciousness to expand. Find your own subjective experience and build your own path in life. Awaken from your dream and understand there is nothing to truly learn, only to experience and create. It’s time to stop fighting the current in the lake and simply let go and surrender to be brought back to the vast ocean. One can only show you the door, but you have to walk through it. This takes courage, dedication and patience. I know you have all three as this is what you where born to do. You where born to create …You are all there is, has been and ever can be, the creator of all possibility. Without you the whole would literally be nothing. elcome to this our first foray into Online Publications/ Ezines. I would like to thank S’Roya from Goddess Guru for giving of herself so freely as I embark on this challenging next step (for me anyway) in the continuing evolvement of White Light Magazine. I’m also very glad to have Sabine on board as she is used to this type of publication and is very excited (as am I when not stressing) with this move. This will mean the magazine will be exposed to a wider audience of English speaking people throughout the world, not just locally based. This will also result in a lesser carbon footprint as no paper and/or ink is necessarily needed. As our Banner Head states that it’s “A Universal Publication” our progress to an online magazine will ensure that we are truly ‘Universal’ which in turn will make us more current and informative. This will also result in our current restrictions being lifted to enable a greater size and format. Now to other news. The Gypsy’s Grotto recently had its first birthday and with so many New Age shops closing down we feel very fortunate to be bubbling along and realising regular repeat business. We are looking forward to joining other exhibitors in Maroochydore for the You Can Heal Your Life Expo on October 20th & 21st. This is our first time at this Expo and we are looking forward to it very much. There is more information regarding this event in this issue. The last White Light Expo for 2012 is a one day event at the Currumbin RSL Club on 4th November 2012. The hours of the Expo are 10am to 5pm. My dear friend Amanda Hall is the Keynote Speaker and will be speaking on the Tarot. She will also be one of the readers on the day. I do sell my books and CDs through my website but no plastic knickknacks at all – let’s see how Feng Shui works without them too! I favour and encourage tasteful decor, I teach, consult, demystify and share how Feng Shui intrinsically works. When I consult and write my articles and the many posts on my Feng Shui Steps BLOG, I suggest using items that you already own. It is so much more important to de-clutter instead of buying more stuff! You have treasures hiding in your cupboards! Feng Shui is the Art of placement and when you present your items in a tasteful manner your home looks so much more homely and welcoming. The placement of your objects has a subtle impact on you and together with ‘the mission you gave’ them... they work for you! A couple of easy and powerful examples here that could well inspire you move a few things around your place today... In this very feminine interior, together with my client, we presented her pink tea set on the top of a tasteful antique piece of furniture (curved top). As we were arranging them, we set the intent of welcoming a caring and loving relationship. To balance the very feminine decor, we added the vase as phallic (masculine) symbol in this arrangement. A bit of humour into a new relationship? Displaying this couple of sheep talking and looking at each other helped another client to meet a lovely man a bit younger than her who brings laughter into her days. They are very happy together. What is important? Your intent - in other words: the ‘mission’ that you are giving and imbedding while arranging your objects. Be speciﬁc and clear, add joy and happiness in what you ask. Reiki - The Art of Hands on Healing REI - Universal KI - Light

For many years now I have been

using the Usui Reiki system in my personal life as well as a practitioner and teacher. The beauty of this natural healing modality is the non invasive nature of its application and outcome. The essence of Reiki is to assist a person on the road to spiritual growth and the healing and understanding of self and others. To understand in an intellectual level, the best way to describe a treatment would be to say that the through a Reiki practitioner one would expect to have either a hands on experience or hands above the body in the aura of the client. This treatment assists and aligns the client towards balance and helps the ‘bodies’( both subtle and physical) natural ability to heal itself through universal life force energy or KI/CHI. This in turn balances the chakras and unblocks any channels that can be experiencing pain or discomfort. In some cases one would only feel a deep sense of relaxation and alleviation of stress, in others a profound sense of knowing or even uncontrollable laughter and of course the feeling of being centred. Some people ﬁnd this ‘unblocking’ makes them sleepy, or wide awake or even a little unwell. This is due to the detox that can occur from a session. In saying that the Reiki will go to where it is needed most e.g. a client comes in with a sore leg, and receives a treatment- after the leg is still sore. “Why is my leg still sore?” Asked the client, “Does Reiki really work? “ In this example the Reiki was perhaps directed to ‘where it was needed most” and that may be an emotional, mental or spiritual level which is unseen or subtle. Therefore, the client here would need to have further treatments to gain a change in the area. This is why I always recommend three treatments as a sequence for this modality. Also, there is no guarantee that the afﬂiction will be changed, but the cause and the awareness from receiving a treatment assists you to understand how one must change in order to overcome a situation or perhaps offer oneself compassion and insight to cope with a disease or situation/mindset that may not be evident until deep relaxation is achieved. However, there have been many results whereby the physical condition has been alleviated by direct treatment. For instance, I was asked by one of the Tibetan nuns to help her with a migraine

at Buddha’s birthday a few years ago and the response was almost instant. The nun had said there were definite sparks and colour when I treated her eyes and head area, and within minutes was free from pain. There are many more Reiki stories I could give you that have worked well and instantaneously, however, one must know that in some cases there is a definite need for further treatments or possibly another modality to stream the issue into wellness. Often this can be diagnosed by the practitioner. When one decides to step into acquiring Reiki 1 or Shoden through a course or friend, the shifts experienced here can be quite profound. Certainly one receives the Level 1 attunement which is a spiritual blessing called Reiju, as well as the history and explanation of the Usui Japanese system of Reiki. Usually some meditation with time for treating others and the self are fully experienced and taught. After the attunement process the chakras are effected and it takes some weeks for the energy to settle. In my experience the benefits can vary from person to person. Even the Master/teacher can sometimes experience significant shifts in perspective and spiritual evolvement occurs with positive changes. The understanding and compassion of the teacher should allow for contact after courses for the recipients to engage in questions and or guidance as to the changes that can occur. For some, the changes are not dramatic in any way except to say that there is a sense or feeling of wellbeing, insight and happiness. This can be said of all the levels of initiation or attunements on the path of Reiki. As there is no manipulation in Reiki, no harm can be done. The nature of this holistic modality can be used on babies, children, adults and the elderly as it is so gentle. When considering a Reiki treatment or initiation, just go quiet within and ask whether this is the right path for you at this time. Trust your intuition here and the most suitable Reiki Teacher/Master is the one whom you resonate with the most. My recommend getting in touch with different teachers/practitioners before you make a decision. The Newness of Spring

ven with many wintery weeks still ahead of us it is becoming increasingly apparent that spring is approaching. As the year’s wheel once more turns and we near a new season we reflect on what it will mean. Spring means newness. Not the same newness as Samhain when we began a new year and knew that the quiet time was approaching. In spring we feel fertility and growth in the air; burgeoning new life is all around us even though we can’t see it yet. How does this energy of newness make itself felt in our lives? In the deep autumn of Samhain we were entering the time of reflection and completion. A time to take stock and finish some of the projects begun throughout the old year. Now, in early spring, the feeling is of beginnings. This is the time to start those projects, to put into motion the ideas that have come to us in the quiet reflections of winter. Take a moment to really feel this energy, and to then recall the energies of autumn as a new year was approaching. Notice the subtle differences. The energy around us, like everything else, is constantly changing – refocusing and shifting to accommodate the other changes we live in. It is beneficial to get in touch with those energies; to become familiar with the way they feel. When we can tune in to an energy field and really be in touch with it we can begin to use that powerful force in our daily lives. The feelings of ‘newness’ are a perfect example. When at the start of winter we begin a new year, that energy is very noticeable. Everyone is focused on the new year coming, and the combined energy of the general population as well as the energy of the earth and the universe around us makes it easy to really feel the buzz in the atmosphere. Now we approach spring and have yet another kind of newness which also buzzes, but quite differently – and this too is easy to feel because once again many people are focused on what is happening. Gardens are being planned, summer holidays are being looked forward to, the idea of

‘something new’ is forcefully around us. It is however not the same feeling as the newly coming year. It’s not enough to focus on newness – we must differentiate between the kind of newness. If we approach the coming of spring with the same ideas we have with the coming of the new year we are likely to miss out on the true power and force of the new spring energies. As spring nears the energies of strong growth are very potent. New life is pushing up through the earth as the green shoots of young plants prepare to show themselves. One way to get in touch with the energy of the season is to take a barefoot walk through a park, or even in your own yard – any place where you are on the earth, feeling the grass under your feet, noticing the dampness of dawn dew. Each day there are ‘new’ things – baby birds are beginning to be heard; new buds are appearing on the trees and shrubs. Take a deep breath and let that powerful energy of growth and change fill you. Carry it with you and allow it to influence your actions. This is a time for new ideas to leap up, new thoughts to come, new ways of handling old situations to appear. Notice the energy around you, feel it, allow it to work for you. Pay attention to how it makes you feel. Notice the thoughts that come to you as you contemplate your daily life. They are influenced and touched by the season’s energies. They are powerful tools for growth and change. Take note and use them and enjoy the freedom of ‘something new’.

I have an elderly gentleman here whom I believe to be your Grandpa..his word! He is indicating that you have taken too much on and trying too hard to prove to many different people that you are achieving lots! He wants you to stand back and in his words, ‘smell the roses’ and to see life rather than trying to run through it. I sense a small career change that could help you to see things from the other side of the street so to speak. So review what you are doing and see if your qualifications can take you in a different direction that will allow you to enjoy life rather than suffer it. It’s A Small World After All’

How many times have we walked down the street recognised someone across the road and upon crossing the road you discover the person is a look alike, some one who could be the twin of the person you had thought about. I am at present writing this article while on an overseas trip. Walking through Singapore people looked like people I knew at home. No matter what colour skin, their faces have the same features and shape. Interesting I thought!!! We are all one no matter what colour. On the plane I opened my “Science of The Mind Magazine” to a spiritual prayer “I welcome new friendships into my life. I do not close the door of my mind to anyone. Brothers all are we, I am receptive to the Angel in everyone I meet. I welcome everyone now!” I had a great ﬂight to Singapore. I arrived to do my “Intuitive Spiritual Awareness Workshop” some Hypnotherapy, regression and readings. We had a beautiful gathering of people at the venue “The Golden Space” with Sheila and Umesh for the introductory night. As I stood there talking one young man stood out. This young man had the biggest smile. The message I received to write in his book was “When you smile the Angels smile” – what a beautiful message. Now daily I remind myself to smile, knowing that the Angels also smile. Maybe you could do this also. On the plane from Singapore I was standing talking with a group of people, I started up a conversation with a lady who said she was from Emerald in Queensland – I said I have a friend that lives in Emerald. It turned out to be her old neighbour – again synchronicity. I arrived in London, staying there a day or two before travelling by train to Cornwell, yet again meeting people on the train I felt I knew before. From there to Totnes in Devon to do a Psychic Fair. Teaching people in this workshop also to clairvoyantly tune into the Aura/Past Lives and the future, again the noise in the

room was like a loud hum. Later as I went to dinner I walked into a pub – the people there made me feel very welcome and the noise I heard was the same loud hum as in my workshop. I felt like I was in a cacoon as the room vibrated with the sound. It was like a beautiful meditation – totally in my space – I felt blissful as I ate my meal – I thank all the Angels for guiding me there for my meal, for all the lovely people I have met on this journey, for my friends on the Astrology and Physic Stand for the Bookshop selling my books and CD’s for all the opportunities I have been given. This world is about people and each day I have just asked to be guided to these beautiful souls – all with smiling faces, helping to keep the Angels Smiling. While reading in London I have come across many dissolving twins, people who weren’t aware they were going to be twins. When mentioning this, the person has instantly felt the connection, realised they were going to be a twin in this life time, instead their twin is their guide to love and support from the otherside. The twin dissolved in the womb and then stays with the child throughout life to be their guide. I written a chapter on this on my next book and how to locate this on clients palms – this book Angel Power is out now. I have also had this interesting fact conﬁrmed by a doctor, as I am also a dissolving twin. Before leaving London I did a reading for a lovely blond haired lady – In the reading I saw her, in her past life as an African male, tall, strong and good looking, holding a shield with carvings and drawings on it – In that lifetime she was a Shaman Healer and Warrior. She then informed me that after her baby is born her partner, who is white and from South African that they intend to get married there and that she always feels like she is more African than English and feels very at home in South

Africa. These Past Life Influences still influence in this life. Again it is no coincidence. The cleaning lady in my hotel asked me to help her as her grandchild keeps running way from home. What could she do, she felt I could help (she had no idea what I did). I told her to put Angels around her granddaughter to know they were protecting her. I said your granddaughter has to learn her own lessons, you can’t fix things for her as it is part of her growth. You cannot control the situation, you can place an Angel in her heart and mind to help her make wise decisions and to place them in your own heart and mind to stop worrying, as otherwise you may attract more stuff to her, focus on good things happening for her , not what you fear. Let go and let god and the Angels support her and you, as you can only physically do so much to protect her. She thanked me and said her home was always there for me. es I have a dream. I dream of a wonderful community where everyone knows each other. A community ﬁlled with a variety of life changing skills and talents, where we can celebrate the diversity of being human. I started in the spiritual church community in 2009 and was astounded to see that even after years of sitting across the hall from each other they were still unable to know each others names, never mind the individual gifts that each person possesses and could bring to the table. So I started with the face book page called the South East Queensland Spiritual Connection and it’s exponential growth still leaves me with boyish grin at its success. Then I thought to myself; Imagine a feeling of wholeness, a feeling of contentment, of inner peace no matter what is happening in your life today or tomorrow, everything is ok...because you are comfortable being the person that you are.

The ways of the ancients and their teachings is about to become reality. The Mayans knew the understanding of the Quantum � been written about both scientifically and philosophically? The Age of Aquarius explains these two worlds as working as one – one mind, one presence , one heartbeat. This is known as omnipresent. People will often refer to this as Universe – when broken down this is uni (one) verse (song or sound). The future is repeating past especially ancient Egypt of one consciousness or belief and one God or understanding. This is known as zero one point. We are now entering as we enter 2013 and beyond. Life is filled with learning lessons and a continual journey of self discovery. We are currently in the peak of that leaning now as we are in 2012. The oneness refers to the experience of the absence of egoic identity or known as atonement. Ego identity is seeing your self as different or separate from anyone or anything. The atonement is the sound of one just like a heartbeat in humans and the all the body parts connecting to that one sound and beat to perform in excellence. There is no duality which is analogous to the ABSOLUTE. It is the blending of the conscious and subconscious minds to be the Universal Mind (UM) or commonly known as the Higher SELF. This was taught in Atlantis. Along the way we have the opportunity to ‘re birth’ ourselves and self realize our own truth and to create, design and manifest our world in to anything we want. So what is the Quantum Leap of Reality? There are certain principles of absolute love and consciousness. These are written about in the Bible, Book of Enoch and Course of Miracle books. These are the principles where the human society will eventually come to live in a new world. A new dimension or facet of reality. It is not outside of our self but within our heart. These were the teachings of the churches and authority figures such as leaders many thousands of years ago. You are free from self destructive thoughts and behavior. You are creatively alive at every moment. You like and accept everything about life including the learning lessons. You feel comfortable doing anything and everything – and if not will give it a try to get to that point. You know the sensations of fun, pleasure, joy and bliss and prefer the healing properties of these emotions. You are inter dependant and integrated – knowing that life is a continual journey of self realization and discovery to joy. You are doers and helpers, knowing which is appropriate at the time. You are not unwell/sickly by nature as they have innate understanding of self healing. You treat the bodies like a temple and nourish it on all levels – mind, body, spirit. You like to live fully and you do.

When these principles are applied in every day life – life becomes more at peace and harmonic with everything appearing as a story and you are the author of your life. You design your destiny as you know you are the Creator of everything. This is life wi� when you have full faith in yourself. All works out. With that faith also comes TRUST in yourself. Passion for Adventure: the Mystical and Spiritual A

dapted by Phoebe Hoogendyk from a newspaper article by Helen Hawkes in the Northern Star. 19/11/2011 IF YOU’VE ever nursed a passion for adventure and spiritual travel, you can’t help but be inspired by the journeys of Paul and Phoebe Hoogendyk. The couple have lived on the Northern Rivers in Lismore for nearly 20 years and in that time they have managed to see more of the planet than most of us see in a lifetime. But Paul and Phoebe’s journeys are not simply about travelling and sight-seeing. Their aim is to connect with the ancient world and incorporate some of the wisdom they find there into the holistic treatments they provide at their Lismore clinic. Increasingly, that’s an idea that appeals to greater numbers of people who want to use more natural ways to achieve good health and happiness. The healing wisdom possessed by the oldest cultures around the globe has been forgotten in the modern world, because we have become so disconnected from the earth, says Phoebe. “Healing is not just about the physical body.” The couple’s travels began in 2004 when they took a piece of greenstone to an ancient place of knowledge in the South Island of New Zealand after a vision of a Maori female elder in full traditional dress came to Paul in their kitchen asking him to come with her. Not the usual thing for most of us and after the third visit and Paul telling her that he couldn’t come we just didn’t have the financial means, she turned and said. “ I won’t ask again”.....That did it! No matter what or how Paul was going to New Zealand to find out what he was being summoned for. “Next we went to Ausangate, the name of one of the most sacred mountains in Peru to the indigenous people, which stands just outside of Cusco, the Inca’s capital city.” Phoebe and Paul went to spend time with the Q’ero, the last of the Incan priest class. Phoebe explains: “We go to visit these people as they hold safe the last remnants of the ancient knowledge and of how to live gently on the planet. In the west many people have lost this ability and so we bring back and tell in story form as much of this wisdom as we can.” The couple have plans to write books about their travels and book 1 of “Set By The Ancients” is out now, with book 2 almost complete. To be followed shortly after by book 3. “We are strongly drawn to where the wisdom is and who we need to go to by our intuition. Then the great oracle Google comes in

handy to find how to get there, guides and anything else we need!” Paul also carves a symbol into the greenstone, or pounamu, of Aotearoa/NewZealand – considered as sacred by the Maori people and known by many ancient cultures as the stone of healing, love and balance – and gives it to the elders the couple meet. How these symbols came to Paul is explained in their first book. They also now know that each symbol has its own meaning and that meaning is then somehow carried by the waters throughout the land it is placed in. “We ask permission to place the stone in their land, normally a body of water that is held sacred by the people.” After Peru, Paul and Phoebe travelled to Mt Kailash in far western Tibet, one of the most remote and most beautiful places on the planet by the shores of Lake Manasarova, which is the most sacred lake to all the major religions of Tibet and that part of Asia; then to an ancient place of refuge in Hawaii, “Pu’uhona ‘O Honaunau” where the royal Hawaiian families once resided and ruled from on the Kona coast, in the same bay where Captain Cook landed and was killed by the locals when they returned. Next came journeys to the Anangu, the traditional Aboriginal landowners of a large part of Central Australia, especially the Uluru region; then into the remote Lacandon jungle of Naja, southern Mexico, to be with the last of the wisdom keepers of the Lacandon Maya, Don Antonio Martinez. “Don Antonio is well into his 90s and is literally the last person to hold all the sacred wisdom and ceremonies of the Mayan people of this area,” says Phoebe. “After that we went to the Dogon, the cliff dwellers of the Bandiagara escarpment in Mali, West Africa, whose way of living has not changed for hundreds of years, followed by the remote temples area, specifically the sacred waterfall at Pnom Kulen, of Cambodia. “From there we went to be with the Tsaatan, the last of the reindeer herders in the west Tiaga area of Mongolia. In July/August 2011 we came back from the Arctic and a visit to the Inuit, specifically Northern Labrador, Torngat Mountains, the place of the polar bear spirit and Greenland.” Says Phoebe: “The Anangu of Central Australia were not the only tribe who knew we were coming. So when we get to these places and the wisdom keeper says they have been expecting us and know why we are there, you can imagine that we are just a little blown away.” Paul says every journey has been

unique, especially the moments when they have been able to meet with tribes who still live totally connected to and in deep respect of the earth. “We travel to these places in the ﬁrst place in trust, intuition and from the heart and once we leave we have always been invited to return as family.” Some of the special moments have included having two ring seals in Labrador swim up close to them after they placed a stone symbol that they had taken to the area in the water. “This may not seem a really special thing except for the fact that because they are still hunted in this region, they are very shy of boats and humans and it is rare to see more of them other than a nose poking out of the water.” The couple went to Scotland, speciﬁcally the Hebrides and Orkney Isles and the stone circles of these areas in November/December 2012 with four friends and so many amazing things happened that there is just not even room to tell the stories...they will be in book 3 though. In January 2012 they completed their twelve sacred journeys and closed the circle on this particular vision and mission with an eight-day trek over the Southern Alps of New Zealand. “Eight of us trekked over from Hokitika to Castle Hill, following the sacred Peace Trail and done in the “old way” with the permission and spiritual support of the Maori Elders of the area. “They opened the trail for us and held the space safe with ritual and prayers. It is a journey we will never forget and it was one that opened all our hearts fully.” It was also a journey made very special because Phoebe’s youngest son chose to come with them and it opened up a whole new way of being to him. A way that comes totally from the heart with love and respect for this beautiful planet and all who live on her. “We would love to go back to Mongolia, Peru, Central Australia, the jungles of Mexico and Africa, New Zealand. We have a friend who does whale swims in Tonga and that is on our to-do list.”

Travel Highlights: 1. Waking up on the roof of a mud brick hut on the top of the Bandiagara escarpment in a little village called Indaloo and watching the sunrise over the great expanse of the Sahara. 2. Descending into the beautiful valley where the Tsaatan, the last of the reindeer herders, were camped after 10 hours on horseback and clambering down the steep side of a mountain to see in front of us a woman in a cobalt blue dell, their traditional costume, riding a white reindeer with a rainbow across the sky behind her. 3. Sailing out into the sea on a traditionally made double-hulled canoe from the most beautiful bay at sunset with fluorescent animals in the water below joining with the stars in the darkening sky above. 4. Seeing a huge green ball of light flash on the horizon as the sun set over the bay of refuge in Hawaii. 5. Sitting in a stone circle 6000m up with the spirit keeper of the most sacred mountain in Peru, Ausangate, after he had appeared from nowhere and asked us to do ceremony with him. 6. Sleeping in the desert sands of Central Australia...so nurturing we were reluctant to leave. 7. Seeing the huge icebergs sculpted into the most amazing shapes and with their own ecosystems float by in the Davis Strait of the Arctic. 8. The smiling, laughing faces of the children in all the countries we have been. They have so little compared to our children, yet they are so much happier. 9. Standing in front of the sacred lake on top of the Southern Alps knowing that they had finally arrived to complete the last sacred stone ceremony. “All of these events and hundreds more just show us how amazing and diverse our planet is and reminded us of where we were and how far we had come to be there, how little we really need to have happy fulfilled lives.” Paul and Phoebe share a spiritual strength AS WELL as their often hair-raising adventures in some of the wildest corners of the earth, the Hoogendyks have led a fascinating life within Australia. Their story tells of a deep – and ongoing – evolution in their personal beliefs and lives, and an extraordinary blend of the spiritual and the practical. Paul emerged from an often-troubled youth into the world of body-building, while Phoebe was also a keen gym junkie. While healthy enough as far as they go, these pursuits were a million miles from the holistic, indeed, mystical practices they have embraced over their 25 years together. A bike accident ruled Paul out of taking his body-building up several notches with Arnie Schwarzenegger’s crew in California, and he moved into massage. From there, with his new love Phoebe always accompanying and encouraging him, he trained as an acupuncturist, then into ever more esoteric realms, providing physical and other therapies within a spiritual framework. “We have had our natural therapies business for 25 years, combining acupuncture, massage, hypnotherapy, neuro-linguistic programming, diet and lifestyle counselling and workshops designed to help people reconnect with their own inner wisdom,” says Phoebe. But while the beliefs and practices became ever more spirit-centred and esoteric, the couple also had their feet planted firmly on the ground, in the material world. They worked six days a week for years to build a business in South Australia and prospered. But they confess to having been very naive around money and realised that if they wanted to travel to some of the far-flung places that attracted them, they would have to learn the ways of the world. As he did in all his other areas of learning, Paul travelled, this time to the US, to learn about property investment. He returned and they put his learning into practice, acquiring a healthy portfolio of properties. But rather than build a property empire, Paul and Phoebe used their investments to pursue their spiritual quests. When they were planning a trip, they sold a house to finance it. As well, in order to spread their beliefs about healing ever wider, they have created audio guides – through both story and meditation – for people to follow in their own homes. And their books contain both travel details in the general, worldly sense, but are also guides to their inner journeys, their true pilgrimages. Nux also works in the case of too many different homoeopathic remedies. Nux eases the withdrawal symptoms, lowers the dependence and lessens the craving. Alcoholism is also treated successfully with nux from the common hang over and morning after syndrome to the chronic alcoholic suffering from the delirium tremors. Brioche - A very rich bread with butter and eggs. Brioche is baked in many shapes though the brioche e tete is best known. The dough can be flavoured with nuts or candied fruit, as well as herbs and spices. It may also be used to wrap foods like coulibiac. Slices of toasted brioche are the perfect companion to foie gras and gravlax. Brochette - Skewers of meat, fish, or vegetables that are grilled over a flame and simply served. Brunoise - A very fine dice usually applied to vegetables. Bruschetta - Grilled slices of bread brushed with olive oil and fresh garlic. This was the original form of garlic bread. Buffet - A vast array of hot and cold foods, often elaborately garnished. Bulghur - Cracked wheat made from the whole kernel that has been cooked and dried. Most commonly used in breads and tabbouleh salad. Butter - A cooking and eating fat that is made from sweet or sour cream . Butter absorbs odours easily and is highly susceptible to rancidity. To avoid either of these problems, store butter in the refrigerator no longer than 2 weeks. For longer storage, butter may be frozen for up to 6 months without deterioration. Calzone - A half-moon shaped pizza turnover, often served with sauce over the top rather than inside. Canape - Small open-faced sandwiches served as snacks or for lunch. Cannelloni - An Italian dish made of sheets or tubes of pasta filled with meat, cheese or fish, sauced and baked au gratin. Variations of this use thin pancakes, called crespelle, which are similar to crepes and are filled and cooked in the same manner as the pasta. Cannoli - A crisp pastry tube filled with sweetened ricotta cheese, chocolate chips, and candied fruit. Cinnamon and vanilla are common flavourings for this cheese mixture. Caper - The pickled bud from the caper bush which is used in sauces and as condiments for smoked fish and nicoise salad. Capicolla - A coarse Italian pork sausage. Usually highly seasoned, this sausage is served cold, thinly sliced, as for prosciutto. Capon - A castrated chicken that is savoured for its delicate taste and texture. Once castrated, the chicken would become fattened, yielding tender, juicy flesh. This method of raising chickens is not practiced much anymore, since most chickens are butchered at a young age and still very tender. Capsicum - The family name for sweet and hot peppers. Carbonara - An ultra-rich pasta sauce consisting of pancetta, eggs, and parmesan cheese. Actually less of a sauce than a preparation, hot pasta is tossed with the rendered pancetta fat, the eggs, and then the cheese. Crisp pancetta and black pepper are tossed into the pasta just before serving. Cardamom - Aromatic seeds used for baking, flavouring coffee and exotic Scandinavian and Indian dishes. Excellent when freshly ground. Cardinal - Fish dishes which have sauces made with lobster fumet and are garnished with lobster meat. Carob - The seed from the carob tree which is dried, ground, and used primarily as a substitute for chocolate. Carpaccio - An Italian dish made of paper thin slices of beef dressed with olive oil and parmesan cheese. The 2nd Annual You Can Heal Yourself Expo, set for Saturday October 20th and Sunday October 21st, 2012 at The Hub in the Sunshine Coast Daily building in Maroochydore. Lights from the Other World Floater structures in the visual arts of modern and present-day shamans

This article is based on the assumption that prehistoric shamanic rituals include the perception, interpretation and depiction of what we today call ‘eye floaters’ (muscae volitantes). It is suggested that,

together with other shamanic symbols, floaters continue to be experienced and depicted in later shamanic societies up to the present day. The present article supports this thesis from the examples of modern Siberian and contemporary Tukano shamans. A closer look at their visual arts reveals geometric structures and characteristics that are typical of eye floaters.

The distinct rings or dotted circles to the deers’ (or reindeers’) left and right represent stars, or the “mottling of the reindeer calf” (Oppitz 2007). Metal disks Decorations on the shamans’ costumes also convey metaphysical ideas and symbols. For example, the Yakuts usually decorate their shaman costumes with numerous and heavy metal pieces like the big perforated disks that are attached on the back of the costumes (figure 7).

One of these disks symbolizes an ice hole, the entrance into the underworld. The other is the sun of the shaman. A third disk without hole is interpreted as the moon. The coresurround structure of these perforated disks resembles the representation of celestial bodies on the shaman drums. They are magical heavenly bodies that are required by the shaman to illuminate his path in the darkness of the underworld (Eliade 1957; Stutley 2003; Stolz 1988).

At their initiation, Turko Mongolian shamans in Central Asia, particularly the Siberian Buriats are given so-called toli, metal disks from bronze or copper. They are hanged around the neck or attached to the caftan. According to the legend, toli are crafted by heavenly smiths, they “flew down” from the heaven as a gift from the “shining” gods. They are venerated as sun disks or as mirrors that show the past, present and future. Shamans use them to foretell, to protect themsleves from evil spirits or to accommodate helping spirits. Some of these toli are elaborately painted, others are metal disks with some concentric rings or no decorations at all (Kasten 2009; Stutley 2003). Visions In order to heal, foretell or lead the deceased, the shaman must be able to leave his body and undertake a visionary journey to the other world. If these visions are the result of altered states of consciousness, they typically consist of abstract geometric structures and figurative scenes. Tukano societies of the Colombian Amazon region are an example of how visionary abstract floater structures enter the indigenous interpretation of world and cosmos.

The Tukano cosmos is rich in myths and metaphors revolving around important themes like ecology and reproduction. These themes are believed to be governed by deeper abstract principles like “life energy” or “fertility” that are realized by the natives through a disciplined and modest way of life which brings about a transformation of body and mind. In their rituals, Tukano shamans (payé) use hallucinogenics like Banisteriopsis (yagé/yajé, ayahuasca, caapi) or Virola (vihó) to visualize these mythic themes and principles. Austrian Anthropologist Gerardo ReichelDolmatoff investigated the hallucinatory experience through participation and observation (Reichel-Dolmatoff 1975, 1978, 1987, 1997). He distinguishes a first and a second phase in that ritual, according to the main characteristics of the vision – which essentially resembles the three-staged scheme by Dowson and Lewis-Williams (1988), as mentioned above (figure 2): While the first phase of the Tukano hallucinatory experience

is characterized by entoptic phenomena (phosphenes), the visions of figurative scenes are prevalent in the second. The second phase is experienced by the Tukanos as a deeply emotional and sometimes terrifying journey to the mythic space-time. In contrast, the geometric phenomena of the first phase are experienced as pleasant. Tukano shamans distinguish up to thirty different geometric patterns like circles, rings, chains, grids, zigzags etc. and compare them to natural phenomena like drops, rays, wheels, flowers, snail shells and the like. These natural objects are, at the same time, connected to the societies’ important mythic themes like male/femaledualisms, fertility, exogamy, incest, impregnation and others. Thus, entoptic phenomena are visualized in order to legitimate and remind the corresponding mythic and social laws. Part 3 in next edition

Vegetarian Spring Recipes Fresh Pea Soup makes 6 cups

Spring Lemon Risotto with Asparagus Elderﬂower Lemon Cake and Fiddlehead Ferns makes 1 (9x5-inch) loaf

We use organic frozen peas to make this beautiful bright-green soup. Adding them to the pot at the tail end of the cooking time preserves their sweet ﬂavor and vivid green color. It’s lovely garnished with lots of snipped fresh chives, dill or chervil. Adding a small dollop of creme fraiche, sour cream, or whipped cream to each serving is pretty delicious, too.

1 1/2 cups ﬁddlehead ferns 1 1/2 cups asparagus tips 3 tablespoons butter, divided 1 1/2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil 2 large leeks, white and light green parts only, washed well, and diced. 2 scallions, white parts only, washed and minced. 1 clove garlic minced 2 cups arborio or carnaroli rice (also called risotto rice) 1/2 cup dry white wine approximately 5 1/2 cups hot vegetable or chicken stock zest of 1 large lemon 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese

2 tablespoons butter 1 leek, trimmed, washed and sliced 1 russet potato, peeled and cut into small pieces 4 cups chicken broth 2 pounds (6 cups) frozen peas Salt and pepper

Cake 8 ounces unsalted butter, softened, plus more for greasing the pan 8 ounces superfine sugar 4 large eggs Zest of 2 lemons (about 2 tablespoons) 8 ounces self-rising flour 1/4 cup elderflower cordial Juice of 1/2 lemon (about 1 tablespoon) Cream 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream 2 tablespoons elderflower cordial

Start by preparing the vegetables. Boil a medium sized pot of water, and have ready a large bowl of ice water. Thoroughly wash the fiddlehead ferns, then rub them in a kitchen towel to remove any of the brown paper-like chaff. Cut off any brown tips or blemishes. Rinse again if necessary. Blanch both the asparagus and fiddlehead ferns for about 2 minutes, until bright green, then Melt the butter in a medium pot over plunge into the ice water bath to stop the cooking. For the cake Preheat oven to 325°F. Lightly grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan and line with parchment paper. Set aside. In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment (or in a large bowl with a handheld mixer or a spoon), cream the butter and sugar until very pale and fluffy. Mix in the lemon zest. In a small bowl, beat the eggs together. Gradually add the eggs to the butter and sugar mixture (about 1 teaspoon at a time), beating well after each addition. Sift a quarter of the flour into the bowl and gently fold with a spatula. Repeat until all the flour is incorporated. Pour the batter into the pan. Bake in the oven until a tester comes out clean, about 50 minutes. While the cake is baking, combine 1/4 cup elderflower cordial and lemon juice. Place the cake (still in the pan) on a wire rack and prick all over with a skewer. Drizzle the elderflower and lemon syrup over the cake so that it seeps into the holes. Cool cake completely, then remove from pan to serve. For the cream To make elderflower cream, combine heavy whipping cream and 2 tablespoons elderflower cordial in a mixing bowl and whip with an electric mixer fitted with the whisk attachment, a handheld mixer, or a wire whisk.

Spinach, White Bean, and Taleggio Pizza makes one pizza, serves two

1 ball of pizza dough (see recipe link above) olive oil About 6 cups of washed baby greens like 2 cloves of garlic, minced arugula and baby spinach, torn into bite-sized 4 to 5 ounces taleggio, sliced or pinched off pieces into small bits About 1/2 cup of fresh herbs - lemon thyme, 1/4 cup white beans lemon verbena, Thai basil, and Italian parsley parmesan cheese - chopped 4 ounces fresh spinach 1 Meyer lemon, zested (we used baby spinach leaves) 1/4 cup chopped fresh chives or spring garlic Preheat your oven and pizza stone to 550 1/4 cup chopped fresh scallions degrees. 1/2 cup sliced toasted almonds Roll out the dough and transfer it to a floured, 4 ounces good goat cheese rimless cookie sheet or a pizza peel, if you 2-3 chive blossoms have one. Hibiscus Berry Sundae serves four 1 jar (250g) Wild Hibiscus Flowers in Syrup 1 pint vanilla ice cream 1 cup fresh raspberries or quartered strawberries Whipped cream Chopped pistachio nuts (optional) Drain hibiscus flowers and reserve syrup. Cut each flower in half. Scoop ice cream into 4 bowls. Scatter with berries and then drizzle with the hibiscus syrup. Top with a pouf of whipped cream and scatter with hibiscus flowers and nuts. Serve immediately. This sundae is also excellent built on a slice of angel food or pound cake.

The Magic of Numerology – Spring 2012 Edition

How are we all managing the intensity of the energies of this year? Pretty amazing isn’t it! Many people I have been in connection with have commented that this year has been the toughest they have experienced for a long time. From the perspective of taking our levels of consciousness to ever higher dimensions of truth it makes sense that this year was never intended to be a walk in the park. The excitement of this time is with the many Souls whose focus remains locked in the 3rd Dimension. Our role in the great awakening is just beginning for they still have the opportunity to become more aware of the magic hidden in the experiences that are challenging them the most. We, as bringers of the Light have all been preparing for these shifts in one way or another since 1987. Therefore this year is very much centred around the energies of duality, balance and seeing the other side of our creative power more clearly. The more prepared we are to hold ourselves personally accountable the more we empower those close to us to do the same. How we manage the energies for the remainder of this year as we once more approach the Spring Equinox on September 22nd, will determine much as to our level of preparedness for the time to come.

September Is always referred to as a month of change due to the influences of Change of Season. Although its position in the calendar is the 9th month the word Sept is 7, therefore the vibration of the word is just as important as the number. The 9 combined withthe 7 brings our focus more on our physical environment in terms of what has served its purpose and now needs to be let go of. Spring cleaning can also cover areas such as health, business, property, relationships and family members. Here the Soul needs space and so a shedding is necessary. The word September vibrates to the Number 3, stimulating the mind into organising, cataloguing, learning and socialising.

October is a 10/1 month, yet if we follow the same principal as above the word Oct is 8. The number 1 provides the opportunity to stabilise, ground, and renew all that was changed in September, for it gives us a different perspective on what is now possible. The zero always provides the mystery in all we create and so not all is known when we begin. When we add the number 8 the process of renewal that renewal has the potential to be life changing. The 8 is Karma, wisdom, self worth, self value and the lessons we have learned that are now ready to be implemented within the renewal process. The word October has a vibration of the number 6 relating to creative ideas, conflict resolution through more positive communication.

November is a Master Number 11/2 month combined with the word Nov, brings in once again the number 9. This combination opens the door to completing what ever level of physical mastery we have been working on for some time. The 2 aspect of the number 11 allows us to connect to a significant part of ourselves or a partner that is either a positive or a negative influence depending on the lesson we are here to master. The word November vibrates to the number 4 making it a month of diligence to working with the energies we have already in place rather than taking on more than we can handle.

Acceptance is just that..complete and utter unconditional love. Accepting what is. The wonderful thing about life, is our lessons. The lessons we are required to learn during this existance to allow us the growth we require to be the amazing and wonderful beings that we are. We all have different lessons to learn and we are all at different stages of growth. How wonderful is that? The world would be pretty boring if we were all at the same level...well really, if we were all at the same level, that is where we would stay...no growth, no movement, no understanding of what life is, no enjoyment. Take a look around you..your family, your friends, people you come into contact with, lady at the bakery, man at the butcher, all these people are at different stages of their life and their learnings. Listen to what they have to say, listen to their beliefs and see how it differs from yours. Differs, but not better than or worse than, not inferior or ferior, just what their lessons and experiences have taught them to be. You don’t have to believe the same thing or even feel that you want them in your life, but accepting where they are at in their growth, accepting them for who they are, accepting that they are different from you but of the same make up.....energy and matter. Atoms, muscle, bones, cells, organs. We are all the same, all made up of the same thing, it is our belief systems and our experiences that make us unique. Unique and special. No right or wrong, just who we are. We don’t have to believe or conform to others belief systems, we go our own way from the experiences we choose to play and learn from. Even though our beliefs are different to others, we can all still accept each other for who each of us are. When I was travelling in Nepal in 2010, I had two amazing guides. Both young Buddhist men, one 24yo and the other 18. We were talking about spirituality and I asked.... “You are both Buddhists right?” “Yes” came the answer. “So, you are both vegetarian” “Yes” Then I asked “How can you stand it when the Hindu’s festivial is on..the one where they slaughter animals in the street? How does that sit with you watching those poor animals?” My 24 yo guide stopped and looked at me and said “Julie, we all know there is only one God. We all know that we all worship the same God, we just all worship differently. We accept that is what they do to worship God. It is ok. We worship God differently.” Wow!! Just think...if we all accepted people for who they are what a beautiful world this would be. No wars, no hatrid, just peace, love and understanding. Understanding that even though we are made up of the same, we can still go on different paths, have different ideas, have different experiences and enjoy life by being free. Free to experience what is right for you and your being. Being truly present with your body, honouring who you are and following your path. This way, allowing your inner light to shine out brightly. And the people around you would be there supporting you and helping you on your journey because they accept you for who you are. Accepting others ﬁrst comes when we accept ourselves. Accept ourselves for being the amazing, wonderful beings

we are. That’s true self love. We all make choices in our lives. Choices that help us learn our lessons. Sometimes the choices we make, in hind sight, may not have been the most appropriate. However, what did you learn from that experience? Would you make that same choice again? How would you have chosen differently? What would have made that situation better? Without that choice, we would not have been able to learn from it and remember for the next time. Just like when we make a “mistake” in school. We learn not to make that same “mistake” again. Life is like that. A HUGE school. The school of experiences. The school of learnings. The school that keeps us on our path and helps us on our journey. Accepting that the choices we made and the experiences we have found ourselves in have made us the amazing, beautiful and unique human beings that we are.
