WBA Family Day Recap

What a fair-tastic day! On Monday, August 7, 2017, WBA members and their families from Frosted Memories, 600 Sweets & Treats, Rich’s House of Cakes, The Cupcake-A-Rhee, Simple Simon Bakery, Sweet Something’s Pastries, Desserts by Deb, O&H Danish Bakery, Tamara’s the Cake Guru, Sweet Lola’s, Monzù Bakery, Clasen’s European Bakery, Neat-O’s Bake Shoppe, and The Extra Special Touch Bakery enjoyed a day at the Wisconsin State Fair. WBA members had a unique opportunity to go behind-the-scenes and take group tours of

the Original Cream Puffs Dairy Bakery, where the Wisconsin Bakers Association has been producing cream puffs since 1924. Improvements to the bakery this year included adding a slicing machine in order to more efficiently slice the cream puff shells which have been sliced by hand up until this year. Along with the slicer, a new warehouse area was added for better ingredient storage. After the tours, all three groups headed over to the Miller Lite Sports Bar & Grill for lunch. Thank you to Brandon Grebe for treating everyone to lunch and to the all of the WBA Members that attended WBA Family Day this year!

The Dairy Bakery at the Wisconsin State Fair began as a joint venture between Wisconsin State Fair Park and the Wisconsin Bakers Association to establish and operate a bakery using genuine Wisconsin dairy products in front of thousands of observers. Over the years, cream puffs have become the signature dessert of the fair. For the fifth year in a row, more than one million people attended the Wisconsin State Fair. The official attendance was 1,028,049 with 408,000 cream puffs consumed this year! Among those cream puffs, were a batch of cream puffs filled by Donald Driver. Driver stopped at the Dairy Bakery on Friday, August 11th as part of his “Thank You Fan tour. BB Photo credit: Wisconsin State Fair
