LOCAL NOTES “SEUSSICAL The Musical” is coming to the Palm Canyon Theatre Starts July 11 Palm Canyon Theatre The only thing more fun than reading a Dr. Seuss book is seeing a magical musical extravaganza—live, onstage. Based on selections from the enormously popular works of Dr. Seuss, Seussical The Musical centers around Horton The Elephant who discovers a tiny community of “Whos” on a dust speck. Against the ridicule of others, Horton learns to stand up to the opposition as he discovers that, “A person’s a person no matter how small”. Meanwhile, Jojo, a boy from the Who community, encounters the Cat in the Hat who makes Jojo’s imagination come alive and teaches that, “Anything’s Possible”. A Change.org petition seeks to end discrimination for students with estranged parents When students seek financial aid for college, they have to complete the FAFSA (Federal Application for Student Aid). The outcome of this application determines whether or not one is eligible for such things as Pell Grants, Stafford Loans, and other financial assistance for college. If a student does not have cooperation from the parents, they are most likely denied and lack the funds to participate in higher education. This affects a large number of out gay students, for more details visit our Facebook page or Tony Rowe at facebook.com/lulzbuddha

Your weekly LGBT guide to the Palm Springs and Desert Cities area

FROM THE DESK OF THE PUBLISHER by Will Paige In 1876, Military officer H. Clay Trumbull wrote about two Native American, gay lovers in a charming tale that begs to be told. On a steel gray morning, the two men, named Three Bears and Feather-on-the-Head, were assigned as forward scouts. They were both fierce warriors in the service of the US Army and thus became the first gay couple of note in the military. As they intended to lead a charge into an Indian village, Three Bears’ horse bolted out of control and charged the camp alone. As the tribe readied itself for an attack, Feather-on-the-Head snapped hard on the reigns of his pony, also charging the camp along with the single intent to save his lover or die with him that morning. Tossing his hard, chiseled body from side to side, low on his horse, as the air became thick with smoke as the bullets flew towards him from all angles.

danger.

At the same moment, Three Bears’ horse flailed and fell underneath him in a cloud of dust as Feather-on-the-Head approached unafraid and at full speed. As if this maneuver was practiced at length, Three Bears jumped towards Feather-on-the-Head, who grabbed him by the waist and planted him on his own horse and continued out of

What scientist, scholars, Jesuits and all other professions that studied human behavior deemed inappropriate material for the common man is no different than hiding pedophiles in order to save the name of the boy scouts? In fact, they know quite well this history. Today It’s online everywhere for

Later in 1889 physician Dr. A.B. Holder’s writes “The Bote, Description of A Peculiar Sexual Perversion Found Among North American Indians” bote’ meaning, not man, not woman, a word used by the Absaroke Indians of Montana, to accurately describe a gay man that is neither top or bottom, but engages in oral sex. “The practice is to produce the sexual orgasm by taking the male organ of the active party in the lips of the bote, the bote probably experiencing the orgasm at the same time.” These stories are at once suspenseful, erotic and a gauntlet for new generations of gay lovers to achieve epic adventures in an accepting world, such as existed in the past by other cultures.

Continued from page 25 anyone to find it. Years ago, as I plied my trade in software, I read an article that anyone engaged in the new concept of graphic design would be miles ahead of the game in ten years or so. Still in its infancy, I started reading all I could on the subject. For me, the end result was Adobe InDesign and Photoshop, as well as Flash development. Today, I am a wizard at Photoshop actions, and developing display signage and videos for some of my long time clients from that era. What is new is that gay is in vogue and not in some assimilated way, but raw and as we are, without apology, thank you, and without any real negotiation. There have been times when we got weary and we got tired and would even accept equal but different. This time, the older generation was pushed along by the stronger and younger generation, we helped create, and has moved past any turning point. We have rode the wave out to its final destination. Sure, there are some rocks left, but they are few and we are many. Neither fences nor stone walls can stop our progress now.

destroyed as in the past. Never again will any child grow up anyplace in the world and think that they are the only gay person they will ever know, or that they need to be quiet because there is no one else gay out there, and that they must remain quiet about whom they think they might be. The true meaning of gay is “in” meaning we now see a fascination about gay life and, of course, our gay stories. Our very history is actually an acceptable conversation with so many people. During this last year, you may have felt this even in your own life, like the old commercial when E. F. Hutton speaks and people listen. Now, when gay people speak, they listen. We fill our pride routes, or Harvey Milk diversity breakfasts all over the nation.

People are wanting to read about what gay life was like in the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s, and as each time a gay culture’s era reached its zenith, the killings, raids and arrests would begin. I feel very strongly that this will never happen to us again. So what the hell happened? I really don’t know. If I did, I would be on CNN! But I do know this: we have a huge history that was systematically erased generation after generation so that as new gay people emerged, they To us, this means we are now part of had so little past to cling to they did not our own history. Our stories won’t be have any way to override the gay is Continued on page 38 30 Your weekly LGBT guide to the Palm Springs and Desert Cities area

Continued from page 30 immoral choir at home, in school, and in society at large. When most of us grew up we did not know there was a long standing tradition of male love. Sure, we all learned the lies that the Greeks were horrible pedophiles. But not one word about this civilized culture in antiquity, one that maintained a highly evolved form of homosexual love. In fact, the opposite was recorded, male love was equated to sexless male bonding rights and not the erotic passion between two males that we know very well exists today. They felt we were not strong enough to know the truth, and they did more damage then they will ever know. So can it be reasoned that if homosexuality was spun so badly about the Greeks that there can be no doubt as to the intention is other written works in antiquity, such as the Koran and the Bible, to name a few? But if that is not proof enough, that a conspiracy of epic proportions was well established as our gay history was edited out of American history Then we must demand it be re-written truthfully and explicitly to ensure this tragedy can never happen again to anyone.

JERSEY’S JOURNAL by Jersey Shore As I write this I am coughing up a lung. Isn’t that a visual. I am sweating and feeling miserable. My luck is proven to be impossible. Because of this new cold I had to cancel a surgery. So, now I have to postpone life, with shows all planned out around my surgery, and I have to sit in bed all miserable. I’m not asking for a pity party, just more Kleenex, my nose is running more than Tom Cruise from gay thoughts. I seem to slack a lot on my article. I have all these little pot holes in life that I need to fill in with asphalt. I figured if I am going to drag my ass up and get in the car to get the cough medicine that makes you pass out and sleep. I might as well bang out an article and on my way have it sent to my editors from my special drive by web hot spot! I seem to have small obstacles in life in my way, but it’s the big ones you should worry about? Question mark...more DayQuil? So, if all goes without fail, I will get in the car, drive to and by my secret hot spot, get some good drugs that will make me forget I even exist, and when I awaken tomorrow I will be a whole new person!!! Maybe I’ll clean my house? Maybe I’ll organize my drag? Maybe I’ll.... Yeah, for those who know me know that

I won’t. I am so overwhelmed that I procrastinate. So once I retire, THEN, I will become more organized! The question is if I will ever retire or be a 96 year old drag queen doing the legends and classics like Lady GaGa and Katy Perry. Madonna and Cher will still be performing! So, hopefully I won’t be procrastinating and you will read a fresh article next week. Until then, here is too the most disorganized drag bag in town!!!! Peace, Love, and Procrastination, Jersey Jersey can be contacted at: \ Dragapalooza@aol.com Jersey Can be seen: Tuesdays-Azul-7:30pm Thursdays-Hard Rock Hotel-7:30pm & 9pm CCBC Noon BBQ 3pm show July 5th
