OUR TRANSGENDER COMMUNITY, by Thomi Clinton Transgender Day of Remembrance was founded by Gwendolyn Ann Smith in 1988, it is annual event held on Nov. 20th of each year and is one of if not the most important day for the Transgender Community. It is the day where the Transgender people that have been murdered, committed suicide and died from home operations are remembered each year. The Transgender Community is a very small minority and to address and combat the violence against the Transgender community it requires the public support of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Heterosexual persons in the community. Predators tend not the attack and exploit those that are protected by a larger collective. This year has been a very hard year for the Transgender community. Within the 52 states, one Transgender was cannibalized, others set on fire, others murdered, shot, stabbed, all because they were different and wanted to express their happiness. Many commit suicide because

they are unable to bear the constant abuse and oppression by mainstream society. I ask that you come and participate in the vigil, it is only about one hour of your time, and is a very important hour for the Transgender Community. It will be held at Francis Stevens Park, 500, N. Palm Canyon Drive, Palm Springs, Ca. 92262. On Nov. 20th at 7 p.m. Please come and just take a moment of your time for those that are less fortunate than ourselves. Facebook: Thomi Clinton

FROM THE DESK OF THE PUBLISHER by Will Paige Tomorrow The Transgender Day of Remembrance will host memorials all over the world. The complete list was far to big to list here. We ask you to come to this event. We will gather at Francis Stevens Park to memorialize those who were killed due to anti-transgender hatred or prejudice. I would also ask you to take note of TV episodes and story lines on television that have or portray Transgender characters If you see then being shown as a negative stereotype or positive write or send an email to that show and let them know your dissatisfied or appreciate their portrayals. Also Trans bashing is not gay bashing but the act of victimizing a person physically, sexually, or verbally because they are transgender or transsexual, is not exactly the same as gay bashing, it is often committed because of the target’s actual or perceived gender identity, not sexual orientation. However, a trans person may also be gay bashed if the person perceives them as gay rather than transgender. It is hard to think in 2014 we still have people that feel justified in hate behavior and the reason can only be that enough of the whisper campaign of hate exist at all levels of society. From politicians to even gay people using words like he-she and other derogatory statements.
with Transgender feelings, suicide.
Researcher shows trans-phobia is real and creates an emotional disgust, fear, anger or discomfort felt or expressed towards people who do not conform to society’s gender expectations, similar to homophobia, racism and sexism. However those attitudes are becoming generally considered unacceptable in modern society, people speak up when the hear gay bashing because they understand it. Sadly this is not the case some individuals still maintain trans-phobic views without fear of being called out on it. The American Psychological Association, states as fact that transgender children are more likelier than other children to experience harassment and violence in school, foster care, residential treatment centers, homeless centers and juvenile justice programs. Transgender people are also more often to be excluded from entitlements or privileges reserved for people whose gender identity they share, but whose assigned gender they do not. It is very common, for example, for transgender women to be stopped or questioned when they use public bathrooms designated for women. Homeless shelters, hospitals and prisons have denied trans women admission to women’s areas and forced them to sleep and bathe in the presence of men.
Until we as a nation realize words can kill, we may never end this cycle of vicious beatings and and for those teenagers Visittorture us at desertdailyguide.com and Like us on Facebook.com/desertdailyguide

November 20th Transgender Day Of Remembrance Palm Springs TDOR--Palm Springs Anti Violence Vigil be held on November 20th of every year. The location is Francis Stevens Park, in Palm Springs at 7 p.m. At the water fountain Every year, a vigil is performed to give recognition and respect to those that are/were victims of violence. Through this public awareness event it encourages Peace and Respect over Hate. It is one of TDOR--Palm Springs’ missions to raise funds for the first Transgender Day of Remembrance Statue to be donated to the city of Palm Springs, California. This will be the first in the world that we are aware of. Our goal is to create a statue that is Trans-Gender Inclusive and would express our mission for the TDOR Annual Vigil on Nov. 20th. It is our hope that this will be the catalyst for other Trans-Cities to work towards a fund-raiser for this statue in their city. Thereby creating a symbol recognized by all to promote Peace and Respect over Hate of Trans-Persons. http://www.transgenderdayofremembrance.com Visit us at desertdailyguide.com and Like us on Facebook.com/desertdailyguide

JERSEY’S JOURNAL by Jersey Shore Dear Gay Men of Palm Springs, Aren’t you lucky to have a place like Palm Springs, CA to have your midlife crisis in? You are too old for West Hollywood and/or any other largely populated gay cosmopolitan city, but Palm Springs is the perfect place for your final years. You can dress like a twenty year old and not look too completely ridiculous, well because everyone else is dresses like you. You go to the gym and work out for the body you have achieved, thanks to other drugs and stimulants, and is considered “hot” because there aren’t many twinks for comparison. If you stand next to someone less attractive, boy do you look better! If you are not a gym buddy and you are on the larger side, you become a Bear. A polar bear, a muscle bear, an otter. Whatever you decide you want to use as a label as long as “you” fit it, then you have achieved popularity. You finally fit into a clique, like in high school, so many, many, many, many years ago!
Mom and Dad doesn’t cut it, but they don’t need to know that, it’s all about image. Appearing to have that expensive car like in West Hollywood. Don’t you think it’s time to grow up and just be you? Be proud and happy and graduate, finally. I couldn’t wait to get out of High School with being gay and bullied. Why does it feel like I’m still there? Games are for High School. We now play the game of life!!! It’s hard enough as adults, so why act like children? Once was enough for me!
Peace, Love, and Graduations, Jersey Dragapalooza@aol.com Jersey can be seen weekly: Azul @ 7:30pm Tuesdays
Like High School if there is a group you don’t agree with then you have that option to ostracize them and make it go away. It’s easy because you work out and are acting like a kid again, like the ten or fifteen years you didn’t fit into a gay mold never existed. Thank goodness for the Palm Springs Class of Midlife Crisis! You become popular with the “Under” class men, pun intended. Unfortunately, they think you have money because you are older, but your Social security AKA allowance from Image and Photo by James Cesena / The iMiJ Factory Contact Jersey @ dragapalooza@aol.com

THE LAST WORD by George W. Zander Congratulations to all who took the time to vote. For those of you who refuse to participate in your own democracy, I fail to understand why you didn’t take time. That said, we are waiting for our voting percentage, and it looks like Palm Springs and Cathedral city finished higher than most places in Riverside County. The LGBT vote, which is always strong, obviously turned out in higher numbers. Some factors were the PSUSD race which was won by James Williamson. It was an exciting matchup between to philosophies of who should sit on School Boards. Williamsons’ experience did the trick for him. In Cathedral City there was a tight race, as yet not decided, for City Council. Shelly Kaplan clearly has won one race, and Mark Carnevale is still 150 votes ahead of the opposition, which looks safe. One candidate who talked positively about Focus on the Family enraged the LGBT and Progressive community and raised the turnout. A third major factor was the work of Desert Stonewall Democrats and Equality California. The organizations worked together well on two mailings to their members and others on “LGBT lists.” 1500 phone calls into Palm Springs and Cathedral City were a huge difference to the candidates. It is proven by the late
voters, voting at the polls and turning their Vote by mail ballots in on election day. All five endorsed candidates- Shelley and James, plus Karalee Hargrove, Eduardo Garcia and Dr. Raul Ruiz all benefited from the calls. And finally- the Ruiz campaign had an army of get out the vote around his district. The opposition did not have this power and our community showed it in this election. Defying the nation trend, we did a great job. Thanks to all who staffed phones, walked precincts and got out the vote.!!! Be sure to attend the Palm Springs Transgender Day of Remembrance vigil on November 20 at 7 PM in Frances Stevens Park. Go to www.TransgenderDayofRemembrancePalmSprings.com.
