OUR TRANSGENDER COMMUNITY, by Thomi Clinton Facebook’s Legal Name Drama

Transgender people often use the name that they identify with. This is a civil protection under the right of gender expression. The only time it is ‘exempt’ is government records. Whereas Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence are not allowed their A.K.A’s because they are considered Drag Queens, under California Civil Code 51 all persons are to be treated equal [e.g. Equal Protection]. Constructive Discrimination is when the person or business applies policies to a particular group but ignores the same policy against another group. This means that if the Sisters, whom are actually gender non-conforming people, are not allowed nor entitled to this expression, it’s not too long before Transgender people are going to be on the reactive stage of this abuse as well. TDOR Palm Springs is aggressive in protecting gender non-conforming people! To protect my Palm Springs sisters, I am going to give you all a bunch of bullets. Why is William Clinton allowed to call himself Bill Clinton on his Facebook page? Bill Clinton is not his real name: https://www.facebook.com/ billclinton. [K]eeping it [r]eal, [b]ecause the Sisters are not as popular as Bill Clinton! [T]hat doesn’t mean they don’t have a [C]onstitutional right to be [E]qual! This all stems from Pat Robertson’s evangelical rants about Facebook. He was born Marion Gordon “Pat” Robertson on March 22, 1930 but his Facebook name is Pat Roberston. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Pat-Robertson/107488592613704. Why isn’t he required to use his real name? There is a high probability because it’s his group of conservative right wings that are red-flagging all of the sisters’ pages. Personally I don’t like anyone that picks on other people, but the Right wingers now see a way to sensor our First Amendment Rights of “Freedom of Expression” [Facebook’s too Gay] and “right to assemble” [Gay Pride] by removing the LGBT community from Facebook—and making it difficult to connect to one another [right to assemble].

24

Both State and Federal First Amendment Constitutional law grants us the absolute right of Freedom of Expression, to peaceably assemble [friend list] and Freedom of Speech. If I choose to call myself something, then that is my Constitutional right! I want to brand these readers with a very important fact about your government and any government. Prisons began reading inmate’s mail, tracking inmates, and tapping their phone calls for safety and security issues. Perfecting this, now they are doing it to citizens for ‘national security’. Don’t be fooled as to what is really going on here. Moreover, there is a high probability that Facebook is going to sell your statistical data to others in the future and this is why they have the policy that they must enforce accuracy to the purchasers or they will be pairing up with the government. On this, a final note: Information on Civil Subpoenas, “Facebook may notify users before responding to legal process as permitted by law.” https://www.facebook.com/ help/473784375984502

FROM THE DESK OF THE PUBLISHER by Will Paige Why can’t I just have normal problems… This week was indeed a busy one for the DDG, starting with the Betty White interview, the Veterans For Peace World Peace Day celebration, meeting the wonderful Maria Roman and then attending a viewing of her award winning short “Remember Me In Red,” The show produced by the Transgender Day of Remembrance, and Georgie’s Alibi Azul Patio. Continued from page 25 Two world peace day celebrations, one in Palm Springs and one in Desert Hot Springs, also drew a record number of people. But I will never understand why it does not draw everyone. Ever since I can remember, even as a teenager, I have supported anti-war rallies, even planning on attending one in 1973 in Washington DC. I made the fatal mistake of telling my father, thinking he would be proud of me, and he was, but he also prevented me from getting on the bus because he feared that police protection would not include teenage boy protesters. Nonetheless, I support our local chapter headed by the tireless Tom Swann (think Gay Veterans Memorial) and each year 38

at the Veterans Day parade, I march with a peace dedicated to a bunch of men and woman that just want us to remember that we need to ALWAYS give peace a chance. Every time we hear the war drums growing from Washington we have to press harder and harder to make our voices heard as well. War, politics and all the others stuff aside, I find what really upsets me is that I missed out on so much of my life and I had not even realized it. Imagine just having normal problems that most people grow up with, for or against war, abortion, democrat or Republican. How tired I got of evading simple questions, like were you all weekend when I was helping bury a friend who died of AIDS-related illness. Or tell someone I met a man last night I really feel for. So I don’t even need to add to the dark side of this anti-gay sentiment we endured for the last, well…all my life. And now we have protection laws and marriage rights and I can tell you it feels damn good. But that does not mean I will forgive those that still trespass against us, beat us, kill us, and oppress us, from elementary school to the rest home and, as in the case of “Remember Me in Red,” at our own funeral. Among us are the tired, the weary, the bashed, we live as ghosts, we don’t want to be exploited, manipulated or even be “straight like”, we just want them to see us, and not who we love, how we dress, or our economic standing. Because at the end of the day we are no more than people, all on a few big trips around the sun.

CINEMA DIVERSE: THE PALM SPRINGS GAY AND LESBIAN FILM FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES 2014 FESTIVAL FAVORITES

September 22, 2014 – Palm Springs, CA - The seventh annual edition of Cinema Diverse: The Palm Springs Gay and Lesbian Film Festival called it a wrap on Sunday night, September 1st, 2014, with a record number of screenings, a new attendance record, and a ‘diverse’ selection of audience favorites. “We screened twenty eight feature films this year, and thirty six short films,” said Michael C. Green, Festival Director, and Managing Director of The Palm Springs Cultural Center. “We beat last year’s attendance record, and our audiences rated 43 of our 64 films an eight or higher on a scale of one to ten. We actually had three feature films with scores of 9.8. To have those kinds of approval ratings from our audiences is quite gratifying.” Cinema Diverse: The Palm Springs Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, which one writer recently said, “seems to be shaping up to be the Academy Awards of Gay Movies,” has been growing consistently for the last several years, and has become a particular favorite for filmmakers. “We hosted filmmakers, producers, directors, writers, cinematographers and actors for more than half of our films this year,” Green continued. “We work hard to bring as many of them as possible to the festival. Audiences love the Q&As, and the opportunities to get to know the filmmakers and the actors. It makes the entire festival a much more personal experience.” Parties a Plenty.

d’oeuvres and an amazing good time, following two packed screenings of THREE IN A BED and CLUB KING. Saturday night, after a full day of screenings, audience members and filmmakers were treated to the sights, sounds and signature dishes of The Purple Room, where MACHIN’ kept the crowd dancing with delight. Finally, after the last films of the day, guests were greeted by complimentary cocktail specials provided by sponsor, NEXT VACATIONS, and a variety of delicious passed hors d’oeuvres at LULU California Bistro. “Everyone looks forward to our after parties,” said Green. “Each of our sponsor venues provided over the top food, service, atmosphere and entertainment this year!” Festival Favorites abound. Of the twenty eight feature films that were screened this year, twenty five earned the Festival Favorite moniker. They included ALEC MAPA: BABY DADDY, THE WAY HE LOOKS, TRU LOVE, MY STRAIGHT SON, ONE: A STORY OF LOVE AND EQUALITY, SHUNNED, THE CIRCLE, LILTING, MIA, I ALWAYS SAID YES: THE MANY LIVES OF WAKEFIELD POOLE, KUMU HINA, TIGER ORANGE, WAITING IN THE WINGS: THE MUSICAL, CAMPAIGN OF HATE: RUSSIA AND GAY PROPOGANDA, OF GIRLS AND HORSES, THE DAVID DANCE, BOYS, FAGBUG NATION, FOLSOM FOREVER, THE LAST STRAIGHT MAN, APPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR, SAUGATUCK CURES and THREE IN A BED. Audiences selected twenty one shorts as Festival Favorites. These included: LIVING IN THE OVERLAP, SWADHISTANA, Ett Sista Farväl/A Last Farewell, CHAPERONES, DINNER AT 40, GOING DOWN, SNOWFLAKE, THE GOOD KIND , GOOD MORNING, LOOK AT ME NOW, PROMISE, CITY OF THE DAMNED, CAT SITTING, THE BEST MAN, BRACE, EYES THAT DO NOT SEE, PRINSESA, TEARDROPS, HOOVER ROAD, JE T’AIME and SCAREMONGER.

Cinema Diverse continued its long-standing tradition of inviting audiences and filmmakers alike into “after parties” at a number of local venues. The Opening Night after party found revelers at Hunters Cinema Diverse: The Palm Springs Gay & Lesbian Nightclub on Arenas Road, with catering by Dash Film Festival is presented by the Palm Springs Culand a Handful Catering. WEEKLY GUIDE TO THE STARS ARIES: March 21 - April 20 Keep your friends close, but your enemies even closer. You never know who’s going to switch camps. GEMINI: May 20 - June 21 Stick to simple meals this week or you could wind up with a bad case of heartburn. Otherwise, just remember to keep the Maalox handy. CANCER: June 22 - July 22 It’s astonishing how a small misunderstanding can escalate into a big to-do. But don’t add gasoline to the fire. Give people time to collect themselves.

LIBRA: Sept. 23 - October 22 Take yourself out for long walks. You’re so on edge that you’ll snap at a simple “hello”. SCORPIO: October 23 - Nov. 21 A colleague apologizes for badmouthing you. Be gracious because he’s the one who has to live with the negative consequences, not you.

SAGITTARIUS: Nov. 22 - Dec. 20 Stay in the moment because what you’re experiencing now is a healthy disagreement, not a replay of a heated dispute you had weeks ago. CAPRICORN: Dec. 21 - Jan. 19 Let your inner child come out and play today. It’s been way too long and you need to remember what it’s like. AQUARIUS: Jan 20 - Feb. 18 People are aghast with your decision to stop what you’re doing and pursue an entirely different direction. Don’t listen to the nay-sayers. Go with it. It’s for the best. PSYCHOLOGICALLY SPEAKING by Mark Jeremy Trybulski Dear PS: I am in a committed relationship with my boyfriend. We have been together for 3 years. Recently, he has asked me to marry him. I love him very much. What worries me about this, and it’s keeping me from saying “yes”, is that I am more horny than he is most of the time. That is okay with me, I just watch porn and masturbate. I’m concerned that after we are married that I will continue to watch porn and masturbate, especially when he goes out of town for weeks at a time. Many times, I see cute guys walking down the street and fantasize what it would be like to sleep with them. I have no intention of acting on my attractions, but I am not sure if It would be fair to my boyfriend to marry him knowing that I have these thoughts and behaviors. I love him so much and I want to marry him. What is wrong with me? Signed: Guilty Dear Guilty: The way I see it, there is a distinction between love and satisfying one’s self. I understand the concept of being true to your partner, but the way that I look at it is it’s not being unfaithful to your partner if you like to look at porn (or other guys) and masturbate. I would hope that there is a lot more to the relationship that you have with your partner than just sex; and I would assume that when you are with your partner you would much prefer to have sex with him then to go watch porn and beat off. It’s all about communication and respect. The thing I say is, you’re not respecting unless you’re communicating, and you’re not communicating unless your respecting. Therefore, I would recommend you discuss this with your partner. If it’s something you feel like you

cannot talk to your partner about, you may not be showing your partner the respect he deserves by allowing him to share his feelings about it; never make decisions for yourself (and/or your partner) by trying to read their mind. Our brain thrives on our imagination and thinking abstractly. Men are a different species and just because we have fantasies, it does, by no means, equate to not loving our partners and not wanting to commit. The fact that you are concerned with your partner’s feelings is refreshing and healthy. I applaud you. Porn and masturbation are fantasy. Fantasizing, I think, is always going to be something we are going to do to stimulate our minds; but along with this stimulation could come the stimulation of other body parts. These components could be very easily incorporated into a healthy loving relationship as something that actually could be an enhancement to hotter love making sessions between you and your husband-to-be. We are horny men, but based on our choices, we use our priorities as a guideline for our actions. It is amazing how masturbating can alleviate the thoughts so quickly! Rest assured, though, they will be back; and that is normal. You are not dead and/or living in isolation. There will be urges and temptations, but it is all in keeping YOUR eye on YOUR prize!

Mark Jeremy Trybulski is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the State of California (MFC53284). He has a private practice in Palm Springs, in addition to conducting Internet therapy that reaches nationwide.

Q: Isn’t it amazing that you are able to catch 50

the heart and interest of every age group at the same time? What do you think your secret is on such a broad demographic? BW: Throughout my career, I’ve always portrayed characters that were humorous, but also weren’t afraid to speak their minds, especially when it came to racy or controversial topics, I think this struck a chord with a lot of people, including the LGBT community. A lot of people also share my very strong love for animals. When you combine all of this, it’s a very strong match. Q: The Palm Springs area has long been an interBetty White and Barack Obama esting and unique in the Oval Office By Pete Souza place to live. We are now undergoing an amazing new transformation, with resorts and downtown revitalization, while still retaining the vacation community look and feel. Please let us know, when will you be in town next? BW: My schedule is always so crazy, I’m not sure. But I’ll be sure to give everyone fair warning so they have time to find a place to hide! Betty Whit 1954 by CB Q: Taco Bell or Del Taco? BW: Why not both? I also love Pink’s Hot Dogs! I’ve never been one to turn down anything big and beefy!

Q: We read that the Guinness World Records awarded you with having the longest television career for a female entertainer. How do you feel about that? BW: Absolutely exhausted. But I’m used to being introduced as “a woman who has been on television – forever!” You know my husband, Allen Ludden, used to joke that I was “one of the pioneers of silent television!” Q: We appreciate the number of animal charities you support. Do you have a current favorite? BW: I’m proud to say I am co-chair of the Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association. Q: Please tell us more about what you will be doing in this new project. ama BW: I’ve been involved with The Lifeline ouza Program for nearly a decade. They really care about people and helping them pay for retirement. JERSEY’S JOURNAL by Jersey Shore When I mention Smokers, do you know to what or whom I am referring? No, it doesn’t involve Marijuana, even though you all know I am a card carrying “Pharmacy” patient. Smokers, or Mr. Smokey, to be accurate, is my 10 year old Chihuahua/Terrier mix Rescue Dog. My little diva is a whopping nine pounds soaking wet. He is wonderful, emotional, exciting, and sometimes aggravating. I wouldn’t change a thing. Except for the fact that he likes to mark his territory in the house!

me. I’ve killed Cactuses. I didn’t want to be responsible for another living thing. But I couldn’t resist. Since it was a holiday weekend I rushed to the Rescue on Tuesday to get my baby. Smokey was there, and then he was mine! When I took him home he slept for about a week (it runs in the family). Now he is the diva of the house (it runs in the family). He’s definitely made my life happier. When I come home, I am usually greeted at the door, unless he is buried under my blankets on my bed. Or should I say our bed.

It was 4th of July weekend in 2011. I was recovering from one of my many surgeries and going stir-crazy from being on my back, and not in the good way. I called the Rescue, knowing my good friend Hank was volunteering, and I asked if I could stop in and visit. He said sure. Hank makes a habit of carrying, holding and giving extra attention to one dog per shift. On that particular day, it was Mr. Smokey. He was a black, thin, bug-eyed dog shivering in Hank’s arms. We put him on the counter and I just gave him love. He was such a sweet dog who needed to be given a home. He was not a young dog, but I knew he needed to live a lot longer life with my help. I left that day knowing that I had no funds due to my surgery. Well, super, Hank said. Don’t worry. If you decide to adopt Smokey, we have bowls, food, beds, blankets, and the whole she-bang.

A pet is a wonderful thing, and a rescue pet is so satisfying. It’s an unconditional love. Also, shelters do so much to help the welfare of our furry little friends! So please think of donating or helping out. Our furry friends can’t help themselves, so it’s up to us. The rewards are worth it! THE LAST WORD by George W. Zander When we all sit down to decide who gets our precious vote, what I call opposition research can be helpful. It is especially crucial when you are convincing your family and friends which candidate to support. Some candidates try to cover up themselves under a slogan of “I am Mr. or Ms. Nice Guy....” That is where this following type of information is important. Assembly member Brian Nestande is running against Congressman Raul Ruiz to represent us in Washington DC. Nestande has a record on LGBT issues from 2009-2014 in Sacramento . Equality California has created a Scorecard for all legislators and the Governor. Here are some gems where he earned a not so stellar 13% for the LGBT community in 2009. His record. In 2009, he was basically 0% record on LGBT issues. To be fair, he did vote for one bill which was about LGBT Safety in Prisons. Then Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger vetoed it. The other bills were Marriage Recognition for the marriages that oc-

curred before the loss of Prop 8, Harvey Milk Day, the Domestic Violence Fund for LGBT Victims of Domestic Violence, the Resolution to Repeal Prop 8, The resolution to Support the Mathew Shepard Hates Crimes Bill, and the resolution to support ENDA. Do we really want this man to represent us in Washington DC? Dr. Ruiz is a 100% Equality Representative and is endorsed by Equality California! Be sure you are registered to vote. You have until Oct 19. Drop by the Desert Stonewall Democrats booth at Palm Springs Village Fest/Street Fair in front of LULU.
