THIS WEEK With Will DON’T BLAME THE SPIGOT when you dine out for life! This week is full of events. Along with White Party, many thousands of LGBT visitors will be in town, and not all will be aware of our state mandated water conservation policies and how it will impact all of us at our favorite watering hole or restaurant. Visitors, please accept our apologies for the lack of cooperation from Mother Nature over the last few years, and most certainly our own state-wide leadership. Because of all of this, we are asking restaurants, bars, and other establishments to enforce strict water policies. You may not be given a glass of water unless you ask for it. This policy takes a while to propagate, so some level of enforcement may vary. Next week, we will discuss how we got into this water shortage and who is to blame. The answers may surprise you. But I can assure you, the consumer, had nothing whatsoever to do with it. So please, do not blame the restaurants, bars or hotels; they are doing everything they can to stay green.

CABANA BOY NOTES: LYNCH LIST IN STEEL CITY
Ever heard of a lynch list? Neither did I, until a Pittsburgh area high school decided to prove that while things may get better, for some they stay the same (unlike the kids that have a bomb list, no one got suspended). At McGuffey High School in Pittsburgh, a number of students asked openly anti-gay students to come to school wearing flannel shirts and the words “anti-gay” written on their hands. How clever of them! They also circulated a lynch list, which can only likely be a list of students they wish to actually lynch, and they drove this point home by hanging a noose around a flag. All this was targeted at pro-LGBT students at the school, because of course they did. So how does stuff like this happen? Well, apathy and inactivity plays its part. Religion, too, because religion plays a part in about 97% of everything harrassment-wise and anti-gay in our good ol’ American middle. What with all the wheat and corn they feed these goobers, what more can you expect? There’s only so many goats an All-American boy can fuck, you know? But secretly? Who doesn’t want to be chased around by young, strapping lads with hung rope? I, for one, deplore the actions...but I can’t help but also be a bit tittilated by the thought of a kisschase with buff meathead types. It’s quite arousing to my, well...hung rope, so to speak. After all, all homophobia has gay lust bias in the straightest teenager.

they know if they’re reputable or not. Most bartenders know the majority of their patrons and can steer you away from known weirdos. If the bartender doesn’t know the person, ask them if they can point you towards someone they know in the Leather Community, and go ask them. In any case, get the person’s name, address and phone number, and then relay that information to a friend, giving them a time that you’ll check back in with them, and then PLEASE call that friend at the appointed time. And tell them if they don’t hear from you they should call the number you gave them and ask to talk to you. Don’t worry, no respectable Leather person will take offense if you do this, it’s just a safety precaution, and one they’ll all be familiar with. By the way, it’s not the real Leathermen that I worry about, 99.9% of them are honorable and trustworthy. It’s some of the Internet predators or wannabes that make me nervous, so that’s why I’m

JERSEY’S JOURNAL by Jersey Shore As I type this article, I am sitting on my bed, legs crossed, in a yoga type stance, and who’s attached to my right hip, lying right up against my side? Mr. Smokey. Who is Mr. Smokey? For the few of you new to my rants, Mr. Smokey is my rescue dog. Never in a million years did I expect to be a pet owner, especially right after a major surgery, but a great friend named Hank said he’d help get me started with bowls and food and all things Smokey! I truly think he made my recovery more tolerable.
Diva well, but it’s the people food they like. So yes, I have a new roommate who doesn’t pay rent, eats my food, and watches me have sex, but I wouldn’t change a thing. He gives me unconditional love in the world of conditional love. I always get my Smokey kisses as long as he gets his belly rubs. I highly recommend saving a fur friend. There are so many who need to be rescued and even though he pees a little on the floor, the love and companionship in return is so rewarding.
Keep in mind, I am Joe bachelor. I’ve lived the single, no roommate total Peace, Love and Mr. Smokey, independent life for so long, walkJersey ing around naked while farting up a storm. THE LAST WORD by George W. Zander In January at the Palm Springs City Council meeting, the mayor announced a forward looking development of an Unhouse Task Force. Ms. Foat and the mayor were announced as a sub-committee to begin looking into possible resources for the many unhoused folks here in Palm Springs. This is a worthwhile project simply based on the residents here who arrive with little or no resources.
Since January 7, there has been no announcement of how the project has been moving forward. I understand that the first round of discussions was to include professionals in this area, such as the Riverside County Dept of Mental Health, the Riverside County Dept of Social Services Homeless, Roy’s, Well in the Desert, Shelter from the Storm. Safe Schools, The LGBT Center of the Desert, DAP, Sanctuary, FIND, and Safe House and perhaps others. Equality California is working diligently on programs to provide resources specifically for LGBTQ folks who are unhoused and need resources. There are many of these folks in Palm Springs. Only 10 percent of the general youth population identifies as LGBT, but they make up 20 percent of unhoused youth. Some homophobic, bi-phobic, and transphobic families would rather abandon their LGBT child than accept them. The suicide rate for LGBT homeless youth is a staggering 62 percent. Yep. It is so simple. The FIRST step is to sit down and start a discussion. It began in December, and obviously has not really advanced very well, though I love the buzz. That was a million dollar solution to keep partiers out of
their cars. It has been somewhat successful and it is certainly fun and festive. BUT let’s get on with this. There is a rumored open forum on May 3 at Mizell. Two years ago, Desert Stonewall had a forum at Mizell which was great, and then a year later, the Police Advisory Board had a forum at Mizell, where over 200 folks filled the room. Kay Hazen did a fabulous job facilitating as always, and NOW a rumored third time around? Did not anyone from the city take notes at the last two forums, or did folks not listen? They who hesitate are lost! By the way, I do not want to be on the task force, I just want it to happen, and soon. It took Eugene, San Luis Obispo, and Seattle and other cities, counties and one state to come around. I understand fully that our city has a lot on its plate, but I see that funds for resources are available. We should be inviting experts from the County as well as cities and counties that have successfully started up many programs for this as at risk population. Be sure to REGISTER TO VOTE! There is a huge election in November for City positions. We are at Village Fest every Thursday in front of LULU!
