DREAMGIRLS Movie QUOTE Curtis Taylor Jr.: Who was the first artist to sing “Hound Dog”? C.C. White: Elvis Presley. Curtis Taylor Jr.: Big Mama Thorton. In Fact “Hound Dog” Listed as one of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s “500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll” is a twelve-bar blues song by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. The DDG interviewed song writer Mike Stoller on our radio show Love in the Desert and told us it was written for Big Mama Thorton. But A 21 year old Vegas flop named Elvis Presley heard it sung by Freddie Bell and the Bellboys. And later called it a parody and “the most embarrassing moment” of his career, singing it on Steve Allen show, and the rest is… 2Hit show Carnival Cabaret staring James Haake married with children star, GYPSY (THIS WEEKS COVER GIRL) and cast. 3Rio Azul Mexican Bar & Grill Palm Springs Only Traditional Mexican Cuisine, Handcrafted w/the Best Ingredients & Served in a Vibrant Atmosphere. The Anatomy of a DUI An Overview of Alcohol By Manuel J. Barba, DUI Defense Attorney In my last article I provided a brief overview of how alcohol is distributed throughout the body. This article will focus on how the consumed alcohol is eliminated from the body. Elimination As soon as the alcohol enters the blood stream, the body starts eliminating it by a process in the liver called enzymatic oxidation (metabolism). In this process, alcohol reacts with oxygen in the body and eventually changes into carbon dioxide and water, both of which are directly expelled from the body. An enzyme known as alcohol dehydrogenase acts to speed up the reaction of alcohol with oxygen. The speed of the reaction varies from person to person, and even from time to time for any given person. On the average, a person’s Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) -- after reaching peak value -- will drop by about 0.015% per hour. For example, if the person reaches a maximum BAC of 0.15%, it will take about ten hours for the person to eliminate all of the alcohol from their body. For the average-sized male, a BAC of 0.015% is equivalent to about two-thirds of the alcohol content of a standard drink (i.e., about two-thirds of a can of beer, or glass of wine or shot of whiskey). For the average-sized female, that same BAC would be reached
20
on just one-half of a standard drink. So the typical male will eliminate about two-thirds of a drink per hour, while the typical female will burn up about one-half of a drink in that hour. For example, let’s consider Jack, a 170 lb. male, who met friends for dinner at 8:00 p.m. and had a usual dinner with two glasses of cabernet wine (13.5% alcohol). Afterwards Jack left the restaurant about 9:45 and decided to stop by the local club. Jack arrived at the club at 10:00 p.m. and while there drank the equivalent of eight Absolute vodka (40% alcohol) drinks. I use the term “equivalent” because the “standard” drink contains 1 shot of alcohol (about 1.5 oz.), but we all know that many bars pour stronger drinks. So even though a person could drink four actual drinks, he could have drank the equivalent of eight “standard” drinks because the actual drinks may contain twice the vodka of a “standard” drink. Jack finished his last drink at 1:30 a.m. Under these facts, Jack would reach his peak BAC of 0.162% at 3:00 a.m. Even though Jack stopped drinking at 1:30 a.m., his BAC will continue to rise until all the alcohol in his stomach is absorbed. In fact, at 1:30 a.m., the time Jack stopped drinking, his BAC would be about 0.128% and it will continue to rise until it peaks. Once his BAC peaks, the alcohol in his body will continue to metabolize until he returns to 0.00 BAC (all the alcohol he drank has now burned off or metabolized). Considering the 0.015% Continued on page 39

LEATHER REALM by Dave Murdock People who are just dipping their toes in the Leather water, usually wonder how they meet people in the scene, and sometimes how they meet specific people in the scene, like “How do I meet someone who’ll tie me up and tickle me until I …” At first I thought, “Well, how does anyone meet anyone else? You go out there and do it. It’s something we all learned in puberty, right?” Well, maybe not in the Leather Scene. So, dear readers, since you made me think about it, so here goes your Leather Mr. Manners column on meeting that special someone. First off, let’s define terms. If you’re just looking for sex you don’t need Leather advice. But if you’re looking for Leathersex, that does take a little specialized knowledge, so I’ll try to give you the info to help you get over your initial fears. And that’s usually the first stumbling block, fear. We’re all afraid of rejection, and so instead of getting out there and getting it on we tend to sit in our own little worlds and wonder “Why aren’t I getting any?” Well, you’re not getting any because you have to overcome fear of rejection. Easier said than done, I know. It’s something I had to do, and, believe it or not, it’s still something I have to remind myself on occasion. I guess the best way to look at it is “Am I attracted to everyone in this bar?”. The answer is probably not. And so people might not be interested in you for a variety of reasons, but THEY ARE VERY 28
SELDOM THE REASONS YOU THINK, SO STOP BEING SO CRITICAL OF YOURSELF! Just walk up to someone you find attractive and strike up a conversation. If you have an ounce of gaydar, you’ll soon pick up vibes that either they’re attracted right back, or they’re looking for someone or something else. Which brings us to the second point. If someone isn’t attracted to you, thank them for their time, wish them a good night and move on, remembering that they might have missed out on something special, and it doesn’t make you any less attractive. And when I say move on, I mean MOVE ON. The one thing that drives me (at least) crazy is when someone comes on to me, the feeling isn’t mutual, and I let it be known I’m not interested, at least sexually, and the person persists in making advances. No means no. That doesn’t mean that at some point in the future that you might not be friends, but, for that night at least, just let it go. The next time you see the person you can walk up and say hi and see if they’re interested in TALKING with you. One sure way to get me talking is to ask me something about Leather. Asking someone about themselves is usually a good way to get the conversational ball rolling. And I don’t mean “How big is your dick?” But so far all we’ve discussed is just meeting someone in general, not how you meet someone into the Continued on page 45

Naked (Wilhelm von Gloeden EXPOSED) Wilhelm von Gloeden (1856-1931) was a German photographer who lived most of his life in Taormina, Sicily. He is famous for his photographs of the male nude, in which he posed men and boys from Taormina. Several photographs of the male nudes taken in Rome and Naples in the same period by his cousin Wilhelm von Plüschow (1852-1930) are sometimes erroneously attributed to him. 2000 prints were confiscated by Benito Mussolini’s Fascist police under the allegation that they constituted pornography and were destroyed; TRUTH as far as is known, Gloeden’s archive contained neither pornographic nor erotically lascivious motifs

elimination rate per hour (an average), Jack would not return to 0.00 BAC until about 2:00 p.m. the next day! In fact, if Jack had to drive to work the next morning, he would still have a BAC of 0.103% at 7:00 a.m. From 11:30 p.m. the night before to about 8:40 a.m. the next morning, Jack’s BAC would be above 0.08%. Why is this important to understand? We can control the rate at which alcohol enters our bloodstream; we can gulp down our drinks, or slowly sip them. We can drink on an empty stomach, or we can eat before drinking. We can choose to drink a lot, or a little. But once the alcohol gets into the blood, there is nothing we can do to affect how quickly it is eliminated. Coffee won’t

accelerate the rate at which our livers burn alcohol. Neither will exercise, or deep breathing, or a cold shower. We simply have to wait for the process of metabolism to move along at its own speed. By understanding how our bodies absorb and eliminate alcohol, we can better control our drinking behavior to avoid a DUI arrest. In the next part of this article, I will discuss the differences between men and women as they drink alcohol. Stay tuned… and until then, be safe. Attorney Manuel J. JERSEY’S JOURNAL by Jersey Shore This week I lost some weight and had some guys checking me out. Last week I gained some and weight and no one looked at me. Last month I was much thinner than today. I almost got laid! I would have if I lost an extra 5 pounds. Same person, but just thinner. Goes to show you what a vain world we live in. You can change that! Stop thinking like an idiot. What makes me laugh is the people causing all the judgment ain’t all that themselves. Perfection doesn’t exist. No one is perfect. That is probably the only perfect fact, that no one is perfect, so stop picking people apart for petty reasons. I don’t have to say that it’s what’s inside that counts, but I am thinking I should. You all seem to forget that. I remember being at a bar and this “hot” guy walks in and like a magnet all the boys flock to him. It doesn’t seem to matter if he’s an asshole because his is all tight and pretty. I can go on and on about personality and humanity, but you don’t care about that. He’s hot. I am often asked what my “type” is. My type starts with kindness and politeness, and as for physicality, I don’t have a set type. Everyone is different and it could be the difference of a warm inviting smile or a nice set of eyes. I like non conformist body types. I find the hairless, perfectly worked out bodies, boring. I love exploring a man’s body and finding surprises within each crack and crevice. 44
So to sum it up...Perfect is boring. Realistic is an adventure. Life is an adventure. Peace, Love, and Adventures, Jersey Contact Jersey @ Dragapalooza@aol.com or on Facebook under Jersey Shore. Throw Back Thursday with Jersey Shore returns August 6th!!! Mixed Nuts...coming to a venue near you!!!

Leather scene. Well, believe me, once you get past what I’ve already outlined the rest is pretty easy. The majority of Leathermen out there are usually friendly, usually willing to talk (at least), and usually willing in general. So, first off identify if they are truly into the Leather scene, and not just wearing the hides because they look cool. You can look for signals, like what color hanky they’re wearing in which pocket, are their keys on the right or left (though that’s not necessarily an indication anymore), are they wearing a Muir (Master’s cap) or a boy’s baseball-style hat? Once you’ve found out if they’re what you’re looking for (top or bottom), you can just ask what their favorite scene is. One note, don’t ask “What are you into?” That’s not an easy question to answer believe it or not. My stock answer is “It’s a shorter list to tell you what I’m NOT into”. If you want to be tied up just ask them if that’s something they’re interested in. If they’re not, ask them if they know of anyone who does share your interest. Chances are they might if they live in your area. Most of us know what our friends like to do and are happy to make a connection if we can. So, bottom line, if you want to meet someone, get out there and do it. It might take you some time to find someone who matches what you’re looking for, but they do exist, believe me. So, happy cruising!

Transgender Notes
TMZ announces Real Housewives of Atlanta star NeNe Leakes replacement to be openly transgender model Amiyah Scott, who will be joining other new lady on the block Kim Fields. The stunning brunette was born Arthur, and began her transformation ten years ago, when she was 17. Suicide attempts are alarmingly common among transgender individuals such as Lampe; 41% try to kill themselves at some point in their lives, compared with 4.6% of the general public. The numbers come from a study by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and the Williams Institute, which analyzed results from the National Transgender Discrimination Survey. NEW SURVEY The 2015 U.S. Trans Survey Is Coming August 19th! The 2015 U.S. Trans Survey is the new name of the largest survey ever devoted to the lives and experiences of trans people. It’s the follow-up to the groundbreaking National Transgender Discrimination Survey, which was released in the 2011 report: Injustice At Every Turn. Visit www.ustranssurvey.org/

THAT IS FUNNY A couple are trying to set up a new password for their computer. The husband puts, “Mypenis,” and his partner falls on the ground laughing because on the screen it says, “Error. Not long enough.” A straight couple, a lesbian couple, and a gay couple are all killed in a car crash. They arrive at the gates of Heaven, and St Peter is there. He says to the straight man, “You were so greedy for flowers. You loved them so much, you even married a woman called Rose. I’m sorry, but I can’t let you through.” He then turned to one of the lesbians. “You were so greedy for weed. You loved it so much, you even married a woman called Mary Jane. I’m sorry, but I can’t let you through.” One of the gay guys quickly said to the other “let’s go, Dick” Q: What should you do if your boyfriend starts smoking? A: Slow down. And possibly use a lubricant.
WEEKLY GUIDE TO THE STARS ARIES: March 21 - April 20 A friend is moving up in the world and you’re in for the long haul. Let yourself ride on somebody else’s coattails for a change. TAURUS: April 21 - May 19 A dispute at work is more complicated than it looks, so play it by ear. You’ve just begun to scratch the surface of what’s been going on. GEMINI: May 20 - June 21 Let an association develop on its own. You and the other party are in no position to make long-term plans although you’d like to one day. CANCER: June 22 - July 22 Let someone else take the credit for what you’ve done. Everyone knows the truth. What you lose in recognition, you gain in cachet.
46
LEO: July 23 - August 22 This is an excellent time to renegotiate a contract or loan. You could wind up with some unexpected money in your pocket. VIRGO: August 23 - Sept. 22 You can still back out if you want to, but what looks like an expensive step will pay for itself weeks from now. LIBRA: Sept. 23 - October 22 Lately you’ve been streamlining acquaintances. There’s nothing wrong with fraternizing exclusively with people you know are in your corner. SCORPIO: October 23 - Nov. 21 Someone finally gets back to you about an offer. It’s not as much as you hoped, but it makes for a nice start. Let the negotiating begin!
SAGITTARIUS: Nov. 22 - Dec. 20 You’re in the stronger position so you don’t have to get high-handed. Simply allude to what you could do and the defiant steps back into line. CAPRICORN: Dec. 21 - Jan. 19 It looks like you’ll finally get what you want after weeks of handholding, coaxing, and cajoling. And it’s definitely worth it. AQUARIUS: Jan 20 - Feb. 18 An opponent can be just as stubborn as you, but it’s your sincere conviction that winds up giving him moment for pause. PISCES: Feb 19 - March 20 You’ll be garnering a win, but not without putting some noses out of joint. You can always offer to help straighten them out again in a couple of weeks.

THE LAST WORD by George W. Zander Quotes from the Palm Springs Mayor and City Candidate candidates have now appeared on line. You will be getting your sample ballot sometime in September. Pay attention. Read them all but these quotes are some top gems. Weinstein: “As mayor I will make Palm Springs safe again by increasing police presence, community policing, priortize budgets to agressively fight crime, restore vital police positions lost in the last recession and target blighted homes and businesses used for criminal activity and vagrancy.” Wright: “My prior civic experience includes YMVA board member, Boys and Girls Clubs board President, city planning commissioner, and Palm Springs Cultural Center board member.” He wants all of us to work together. Solid, brave concept. Moon: “ Now that I am retired I have dedicated myself to public service. I have promised that as your mayor ,my “Pledge to the Residents of Palm Springs,” that I will focus on the principles of integrity, transparentcy, and accountibility to be a full time mayor.” Foat: During my eleven years of service, my achievements have included an improved airport with a new tower, new retail shop-
ping, a homeless shelter, and a state of the art animal shelter. and the awrd winning small business incubator, IHUB.” Oden: I have the eductation, experience, energy, and personal integrity and to keep Palm Springs moving forward. There are three other candidates. They all are to be on the ballot. Schaefer: Four college degrees from Berkeley, Georgetown, Notre Dame and USC (impressive); He says he was a Councilman in San Diego, and City Procesecutor, and SD County Board of Health and Central casting-CBS. Really? Intell from my San Diego homies.....without names said these things. Google “Slumming It With Mike Schaefer” Is that the guy? They thought he had disappeared. Guess he has reappeared in Palm Springs! Then there is a Neurologist...fine profession but nothing else on the paper. And a film maker. These last three seem less empowered...... but they do have a right to run and could be mayor of our city. Cheers!! Next week... City Council. Register to vote...please register to vote!!!
