Veterans Notes
A few weeks ago we published assistant superintendent for business services said the proposed Peace Pole was rejected because the Palm Springs Unified School District has to maintain a politically neutral position. On May 8 Tom Swann, Richard Finn, Chuck Parker and Bob Terry met with Dr. Anderson and Brian Murray at the school district office in Palm Springs. At the meeting Dr. Anderson clarified what politically neutral position really means. She said that the school district agrees with our position that peace is important. The school district has a written policy that they maintain a politically neutral position by not accepting donations from organizations. For example the school district turned down a request from the Shriners to donate the flag pole at Rancho Mirage High School. The school district does not want to accept a donation from the Shriners or VFP because if they did they may place themselves in a position that they feel they have to accept a donation from a controversial organization like the KKK. So to be neutral the school district does not accept donations from organizations if the donated item contains the name of the organization or the emblem/insignia of the organization. The school officials said that VFP could resubmit their proposal to donate a Peace Pole if VFP removed its name from the brass plate on the pole. Tom Swann said he would resubmit the proposal this week.

LEATHER REALM by Dave Murdock By the time you read this IML 2015 will be in the history books. We sent a kick-ass contestant, Mr. Clifton Tatum, who has proved to be an exemplary Leatherman in every respect, raising over $9000 to date for his LGBT youth charities, and his title year as Mr. Palm Springs Leather is only ½ over! The next time you see Cliff, please take a moment to go up and congratulate him on everything that he’s done for our community. In a future column I’ll be asking Cliff about his time at IML so stay tuned. .And now back to our series… In Part 1 I talked about responsibilities of a Top/Dominant to your submissive/bottom/boy/pup. In Part 2 I began a discussion on how to have a great time in a scene. And last week I talked about the importance of communication. This week we’ll pick up with another important aspect of a successful scene, Trust.
if it hasn’t fatally damaged the relationship already. In the Leather world Trust is what a Tops reputation is built on and once he or she has lost the trust of their community or their partner there’s almost NO way to regain it. In order for any scene to work one of the first things that has to happen is for the submissive to totally TRUST his dominant. But, how do you get him to trust you? Well, scholars brighter than I have written long tomes on relationships, but let me give you my quick take. One of the first and easiest ways is to provide references. Tell him who you are, who you’ve trained with, who you have played with, which clubs you belong to. Now, obviously references don’t always work because the person may be a visitor to your community and may not necessarily know the references. So, if you absolutely, positively HAVE TO go home with them RIGHT NOW, then the Top should urge his potential play partner to tell a friend, or at the very least a bartender, where they’re going, who they’re going with (and use your real name please, not Captain America) and provide a phone number where the sub can be contacted at a specified time. No sane Top would ever refuse to give that information because they understand the need for Trust. And if they don’t then do me a favor, ask for it. If they are unwilling to do that then there’s no way in hell I’d go home with them and I’d urge you not to either.
I told you in the beginning of this series that the foundation of the Leather tribe is built upon the watchwords Trust, Honor and Respect. Well, that’s really the foundation of any good relationship is it not? And whether you are into anything kinky or not I think you probably need to be able to trust your partner in order for any kind of relationship to continue. I have no data at hand to prove it but it seems to me that the downfall of many relationships begins when one or both partners distrust the other. In a vanilla scene I think the trust can be rebuilt 26 Your weekly LGBT Gay Desert Guide. View our Free Digital Version on-line.

JERSEY’S JOURNAL by Jersey Shore For the whole day. Just ONE day. Less than 24 hours. You gotta sleep, right? Only use positive thoughts. If you start thinking a negative thought, then switch it. Make it into a positive. The most encouraging thing you can say is... At least you aren’t dead. If you are dead, then there is no use for positive thinking, you are dead. If you decide to live life, then LIVE it. Find good in everyone. Some people are harder to do that for, but there is good in everyone. Unfortunately, something happened in thier life to make them a negative contributer to the universe. So, if you try for a whole day, to turn negative to positive, it could become contagious. You might even find out how nagative you are as a person and you can change that. Knowledge is power and people learn from seeing it in action. One person can make a difference. Life is easier when it flows with no drama. My life flows with no drama, because when drama approaches I stomp it out. Stop it in it’s tracks. I live a simple and happy life. If you decide to interfer, then I will stomp you out. Just the fact that you want to make me unhappy means you deserve a good stomp. I use my energy for good and spread my love like my legs. I do it for more than a day. Spreading love, not my legs. I can keep my legs open all day, but it doesn’t matter. Even with that mentality heading my way, I still find a way to try to be positive in my attitude 40
towards people, even this day and age when everyone want fame and fortune and start acting like idiots. So, for one day, be nice. Push those negative emotions down and just eliminate them like you would do after your morning coffee and flush away. Flush twice. One for the bulk and one for the remainder. It can be tough, because people are assholes. I blame Hollywood, the Media and thier sensationalism, and social media. It’s what the world has become and Ifind it disappointing, but what can I do? Oh yeah, I can rise above it all and start a Positive Revolution. Inside I laugh because even though people can change and can be influenced into change, why would you listen to me over Big Hollywood? The ones who believe in The Sciencetology Cult, where you must pretend to be one way or your amazing career, where everything in your life is a lie, and you are rich and famous. But, are you happy? Peace, Love, and Happiness, Jersey You can see all things Jersey Shore on Facebook or contact via email Dragapalooza@aol.com

A Top can also engender trust by being honest. Nothing will destroy that trust quicker than a Top advertising himself as an expert flogger, for example, and then getting home to find out he doesn’t know which end of the flogger to use. And you both have to realize that to build real trust will take time. So take your time, don’t go balls to the walls during the first play session. Give everyone a little time to get used to each other, and personal likes and dislikes. And if the scene isn’t everything you envisioned then DON”T TAKE IT PERSONALLY!. Not all scenes are the hot and heavy action built up in your fantasies. And certainly don’t badmouth the bottom if the scene doesn’t work. Just chalk it up to experience and get on with it. OK, there are exceptions. You may find out that the sub is a heavy duty drug user or an abuser of another sort. But even in that case try to stay as neutral as possible. Remember that if the scene doesn’t work it’s usually 50% the Tops fault too. To be continued… If you have any questions about the Leather scene, or would like to see an article about a specific topic, please send an email to LeatherRealm@gmail.com.

THE LAST WORD by George W. Zander The Equal Protection for All Families Act, authored by Assemblymember David Chiu and co-sponsored by Equality California, the National Center for Lesbian Rights, and Our Family Coalition, passed the California Assembly yesterday with unanimous support. The bill updates California assisted reproduction laws to help ensure that all families are protected equally under California law. AB 960, the Equal Protection For All Families Act, updates the state’s assisted reproduction laws to ensure all couples using assisted reproduction are fully recognized as parents as intended. Specifically, AB 960 would allow unmarried people using assisted reproduction to be fully recognized as parents on the same terms as married parents. Further, this bill would remove the requirement from family law that couples must involve a doctor when using assisted reproduction in order to ensure that the donor is not recognized as a parent. AB 960 also provides clear direction for how egg donors should be treated under California law. These important changes in the law will increase access to family building options by eliminating economic barriers. “The Assembly’s actions yesterday take California a step closer to bringing its assisted reproduction laws to reflect today’s realities,” said Assemblymember David Chiu. “Many families, especially our LGBT families, are now formed using assisted
reproduction. California law needs to rightfully recognize all couples as parents the moment their child is born.” “AB 960 is incredibly important to LGBT couples looking to plan and create their families in California,” said Rick Zbur executive director for Equality California. “With yesterday’s vote in the Assembly, California legislators reaffirmed the idea that families are created in various ways and they all should be valued and recognized equally under the law. We remain committed to seeing the Equal Protection for All Families Act passed and signed into law.” AB 960 will move to the Senate Rules Committee for referral to a Senate policy committee. The next policy committee hearing on the bill will be in late June or early July. For more on Equality California’s work in Sacramento go to www.eqca.org. And of course, be sure you are registered to vote. Stop by Village Fest’s Desert Stonewall Democrats booth in front of LULU!!
