Rewilding the City Rewilding the City celebrates the animal life of the region with a trail of paste-up photographic images of local wildlife large and small, familiar and unfamiliar, installed on outdoor public walls and fittings in central Wodonga. Mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and insects all make an appearance – from goannas to geckos, turquoise parrots to purplewinged stick insects, kangaroos to wombats, tree frogs to giant moths, black cicadas to blue-tongue lizards - all ready to take over the centre of the city in photographic form.
THE ARTIST Ian Sutherland has been a keen birdwatcher and naturalist since he was knee-high to a brolga. One of his earliest memories is of turning over rocks to look for small and interesting critters in the back paddock and watching wedge-tailed eagles circling overhead at his grandparents’ home in Mia Mia in central Victoria. His photographs have been published widely in Flying Fruit Fly Circus, HotHouse Theatre and other organisations’ promotional material as well as in the Fairfax press and other publications.
The project references environmental awareness and sustainability while inspiring people to experience and find out more about the wildlife and beautiful environment of the region.
Ian has also worked as a science and maths teacher, revegetation worker, disability employment support worker, as cafe owner and shark measurer.
