COMING SOON! CLUBHOUSE RENOVATIONS
We are thrilled to announce a series of exciting upgrades to our beloved Club. This two-phase project is designed to enhance our facilities, ensuring we continue to provide a top-notch experience for all our members. This project addresses the most-mentioned topic from surveys this year, and we are committed to listening to and acting on your feedback. The funding for these improvements is coming from the capital dues we’ve been collecting this year. Below is an overview of what you can expect in the coming months.
Phase One: Café Renovation
We will kick off our improvements with a makeover of the Café. The updates include:
• New Carpet: Fresh, plush carpeting will be installed to create a warm and inviting atmosphere.
• New Paint: The Café will be repainted in a contemporary color scheme, adding a touch of modern elegance.
• New Bar and Stools: A stylish new bar, complete with comfortable stools, will become the centerpiece of our Café, perfect for socializing and relaxing.
This phase is scheduled to begin sometime in October and is expected to be completed in four weeks. We appreciate your
photos of the activity will assist in documenting the incident, ensuring a clear understanding of the situation. Rest assured, the member reporting the incident will remain anonymous.
Examples of reportable violations include:
Driving Carts in Off-Limit Areas: Respect roped-off zones and offlimits areas around the greens to prevent damage and maintain the course's quality.
• Driving carts in wet areas

Phase Two: Banquet Hall Upgrade
Following the Café renovation, we will turn our attention to the banquet hall. Enhancements will include:
• Updated Carpet: A new carpet will be installed to elevate the overall ambiance of the space.
• Fresh Paint: The walls will receive a fresh coat of paint, aligning with the updated aesthetic.
• New Banquet Chairs: Comfortable and stylish banquet chairs will replace the old ones, ensuring your events are both elegant and comfortable.

causing damage to the course;
• Driving carts on to collars and too close to greens;
• Ignoring “path only” designations;
• Overloading golf carts with more than two riders or allowing underage children to operate carts;
Not Adhering to the Dress Code:
Ensure that all members and guests comply with the club's dress code to uphold our standards and respect for the club's environment.
Disciplinary Process
To address violations fairly and consistently, we have implemented the following process:
1. First Warning:The first time a member is proven to be behaving inconsistent with club rules, the relevant department will send an email documenting the incident. This will serve as a first warning.
2. Subsequent Violations: Any further violations will be taken directly to the Board of
Directors, which will review the incident and determine appropriate discipline.
We believe by working together and holding each other accountable, we will create a positive and respectful atmosphere, eliminate damage to the golf course, and create a Club environment expected by the membership.
Your cooperation and support in this matter are greatly appreciated.
ENCOURAGE YOUR FRIENDS TO JOIN & EARN CREDIT!
I am thrilled to share some exciting news about the growth of our Woodbridge family. Year to date, we have welcomed 37 new members to our community, and owe a tremendous thanks to you, our valued members, for making this possible. A remarkable 30 of these new members joined our Club through your referrals. This fantastic achievement highlights the strength of our community and the exceptional experiences our Club offers. Your enthusiasm and commitment to bringing friends and family into our circle are truly commendable.
Referral Success
Of the 30 referrals, 20 members received referral credits totaling an impressive $8,285. These credits are our way of thanking you for your continued support and for sharing the benefits of our Club with others.
The remaining 10 referrals were through our Legacy Program, which ended in March. Our only sales mechanism for the year, the
program welcomed family members of current members. Although these referrals do not qualify for referral credits, they play a crucial role in preserving the family-oriented spirit of Woodbridge. With the Legacy Program done for the year, the Club relies solely on our Member Referral Program to grow the Club.
How Referrals Work
Referring a new member is simple and rewarding:
1. Invite a Friend: Think of friends, family, or colleagues who would enjoy the Club’s amenities and community.
2. Submit a Referral: Provide their information to me, or invite them as your guest to visit the Club and experience our facilities firsthand.
3. Enjoy the Benefits: Once your referral joins the Club, you receive a credit on your account as a token of our appreciation. The credit is equivalent to the dues rate the referral chooses.

DRINK OF THE MONTH The Solarium Cocktail
Have you tried and loved the Solarium Cocktail? Share your experience with us on social media using and tag us in your posts. We'd love to see your photos and hear your thoughts!
Summer is in full swing at Woodbridge, and there's no better way to celebrate the season than with our sunny Drink of the Month: The Solarium Cocktail.
This refreshing and vibrant cocktail features the exquisite Empress 1908 Gin, known for its striking indigo hue and balanced botanical flavor. The Solarium Cocktail is the perfect blend of citrus and floral notes, creating a symphony of taste that will elevate your summer evenings.
The Solarium Cocktail Recipe
Ingredients:
1.5 oz Empress 1908 Gin
0.75 oz fresh lemon juice
0.5 oz simple syrup
2 oz fresh squeezed orange juice 2-3 dashes of orange bitters
Instructions:
Combine Ingredients: Start by adding 1.5 oz of Empress 1908 Gin to a cocktail shaker. This gin, with its unique botanical blend, forms the base of our cocktail, providing a smooth and aromatic foundation.
Add Citrus and Sweetness:
Pour in 0.75 oz of fresh lemon juice and 0.5 oz of simple syrup. The lemon juice adds a zesty brightness, while the simple syrup balances it with a touch of sweetness.
Infuse with Orange Essence: Next, add 2 oz of freshly
squeezed orange juice. This ingredient not only enhances the cocktail's citrus profile but also gives it a beautiful sunny hue.
Aromatic Touch: Finish with 2-3 dashes of orange bitters. These bitters add a subtle complexity and depth to the cocktail, rounding out the flavors perfectly.
Shake and Serve: Shake the mixture vigorously with ice until well-chilled. Strain into a chilled glass and garnish with a twist of orange peel or a slice of fresh orange for an extra touch of elegance.
Savor the Moment
The Solarium Cocktail is not just a drink; it's an experience. Imagine sipping this delightful concoction on our beautiful patio, overlooking the lush greens of the golf course as the sun sets. It's the perfect companion for warm summer nights, whether you're unwinding after a round of golf or enjoying a social event with friends and family.
Join Us at the Club
We invite all members to try the Solarium Cocktail at the Founders Bar this month. It's a wonderful way to embrace the vibrant flavors of summer and indulge in a bit of luxury. Cheers to good times, great company, and the exceptional service that makes Woodbridge your home away from home.

Previous Question –
In match play, a player’s ball lies in a bunker, while their opponent’s ball lies on the putting green, but farther from the hole; the player plays out of turn and the ball comes to rest on the putting green. The player then rakes the bunker. After the player has raked the bunker, the opponent cancels the stroke and requires the player to replay. What is the ruling?
Answer –No penalty.
This Month’s Question –
In Four Ball format, the side (Player A + Player B) lists the team’s score in general on their scorecard for a hole, and not which partner made the score. What’s the ruling? FOOD ADDITIONAL — MUST OPT OUT ON SIGN UP SHEET

August’s Tip of the Month Discover your Source of Joy in Golf, then Rediscover
Recognizing my predilection toward obsession as a junior golfer, my coach showed me a book called “Mastery,” by George Leonard. In the book, Leonard describes what learning and improvement actually looks like. According to his research, learning over time follows the curve below:
Looking at it closely, you’ll notice that skill increases rapidly in short periods of time with long plateaus between improvement. This graph is something I look at for myself and also show students to remind myself that to love golf, truly, is to love the plateaus. These are the times during which you are working just as hard for just as long without any real tangible growth to show for it. The rapid improvement periods are obviously the most fun and the most energizing but if playing great golf is your only source of joy in the game, that can be a dicey proposition. What’s great about golf is that it provides so many avenues for enjoyment. Let’s look at a couple:
Company:
Golf is meant to be played with others. The camaraderie gained during a round with friends or a golf trip can be the basis of a lifelong bond. Isn’t it funny how you can still remember the shot you or your friend hit on a trip 10 years ago? And how you celebrated a buddy’s hole-in-one?
Or the putt they made to take a few dollars out of your pocket at the end of close match? The good news here at Woodbridge is that there is plenty of great company to be found!
Scholarship:
Many enjoy golf as a means of gaining knowledge. Diving into research on how best to play the game or swing the club can be very energizing. Every lesson I’ve ever taken, seminar I’ve attended, or YouTube videos or podcasts from coaches I admire has given me renewed energy. It makes me look forward to coaching more the next day; not that I would impose a single concept on each student but, new information reminds us how much there is to learn!
Fanaticism:
Being a fan can bring great joy! Even when our teams lose important games, we still cannot wait for the next year. Following the PGA, LPGA, USGA events, College, local amateur and junior golf, or any other medium for competitive most certainly interests and inspires many golfers. Watching Brad Reeves grow up and turn into the incredible player that he is, I’m sure, was a great thrill for many of you! Xander Schauffele asserting himself this season by winning two major championships motivated the heck out of me! What’s more is that there is so much golf to watch! Thursday through Sunday, with the consistency of your paper boy, we have a chance to watch the best in the world. When you think of the characters the history of the game has produced, how can being a fan not energize?
The Course Itself:
I’m guilty as charged in having become a golf architecture nerd over the last three years. At a time when my mind was consumed with playing and coaching golf, discovering all of the beautiful details that can be provided by the stage on which our game is played opened up an entire new
world I hadn’t previously considered, at least outside of a tournament player’s perspective. What makes great holes great, how the routing of a course comes together, how one knob can change the way an entire hole plays, helped me discover a side of golf that had previously been off the grid. Loving golf courses also allowed me to enjoy a walk through nature more and I found myself less emotionally attached to how I was playing. Furthermore, my assessment of a hole or course had less and less to do with how I played. Ironically, because I was more joyful on the course, I began to play better!
Competition:
Perhaps the ficklest source of joy comes from pushing oneself to get as good as possible and then test those skills in tournaments. The ones that do it for a living have no choice but to embrace the plateaus because they spend every day working hard at something that only provides truly validating moments (wins, high finishes, big checks, etc) a few times per season. Think about it, Tiger Woods, the golfer who won at the highest percentage of any player ever, won less than 30% of his starts. That said, the highs from those moments are worth all of that sweat equity for those people. For me, it makes me look forward to coaching and simply being at a golf course more!
As many have said, golf is a game for a lifetime. Like life, there are many ups and downs. A more detailed example of the Mastery Curve would have innumerable little peaks and valleys within each plateau. How we respond to success as well as failure, ultimately, is what determines how good we become. Hopefully, we have several different sources of joy within the game. Perhaps I listed one you hadn’t considered. If so, please don’t hesitate to stop me and ask for a suggested reading or viewing! Until then, make enjoyment and learning your first goal the next round you play!

DOG DAYS OF SUMMER
Congrats, Allison! ON THE COURSE
Congratulations to Woodbridge's Allison Frank! On July 25, Allison tied for 3rd place in her Division at the WNHGA Corena Green Classic, held at Bay Club Crow Canyon, with an impressive score of 35. She netted two birdies, hitting 8 out of 9 greens, and stayed close to the leader, who finished with a score of 33. Her remarkable performance earned her a well-deserved recognition. The Corena Green Classic, named in memory of a WNHGA director who championed a Girls Only Tournament, celebrates young golfers and their love for the game. Each year, the event features a fun theme with tee prizes and educational gift certificates. A big thank you to our 49ers for their contributions and their “Clubs Cleaned for Corena Green” fundraiser.
As we move into the heart of summer, the August heat brings both challenges and opportunities for our golf community. The "dog days" are upon us, with longer days, warmer temperatures, and the sun shining brightly. Here's what to expect at Woodbridge during this time and some tips to help you make the most of the season until cooler fall weather arrives.
Course Conditions & Maintenance
Our groundskeeping team is working diligently to ensure the course remains in excellent condition despite the heat. You may notice some areas receiving extra watering, as we take special care to keep the greens and fairways lush and healthy. Please be mindful of any temporary course modifications, such as roped-off areas or adjusted mowing schedules, which are in place to protect the turf during these hotter days.
Challenges with Poa Annua & Cool-Season Turf
The hot summer months can be particularly challenging for our course's cool-season turf, especially Poa annua. As a cool-season grass, Poa annua is more sensitive to high temperatures and can become stressed or even go dormant during the peak of summer. This can lead to:
1. Thinning Turf: High temperatures and humidity can cause Poa annua to thin out, making the greens less uniform and potentially impacting play.
2. Increased Maintenance: Our groundskeeping team is implementing measures to mitigate heat stress, including increased watering and careful monitoring of soil moisture levels. This proactive approach helps maintain the health of the turf, but it requires significant effort and resources.
3. Disease Management: Warm, humid conditions can create a
favorable environment for fungal diseases that affect Poa annua. We are vigilant in our disease management practices, using targeted treatments to protect the turf.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this time as we work to keep the course in top shape. The health of our turf is a priority, and our team is dedicated to overcoming these seasonal challenges.
The Feverish Growth of Warm-Season Bermuda Grass
While the heat poses challenges for cool-season grasses, it also brings an opportunity for our warm-season Bermuda grass to thrive. Bermuda grass is well-suited to hot, sunny conditions, and during the summer, it can experience a period of rapid growth. Here's what to expect:
1. Vibrant Growth: The warm temperatures and longer daylight hours promote vigorous growth in Bermuda grass. This results in lush, dense fairways, enhancing the overall playing experience.
2. Frequent Mowing: To maintain the ideal playing conditions, our greens and grounds crew will be mowing more frequently. This helps manage the rapid growth and keeps the grass at a playable height. You'll notice more clippings as well and we are working as quickly as we can to eliminate unsightly build-up in those areas.
3. Improved Recovery: The resilience of Bermuda grass means it recovers quickly from wear and tear, such as divots or high traffic areas. This makes it an ideal choice for our summer season, ensuring the course remains in top condition for all members to enjoy.
