EMBRACE A HEALTHIER LIFESTYLE Setting Fitness Goals for 2024 BY KRISTINE ROBERSON MEMBERSHIP DIRECTOR

As we step into 2024, it's an opportune time for reflection and setting new goals, especially in the realm of fitness and well-being. For many, especially those enjoying the vibrant community at the Club, adopting a healthier lifestyle is more than a resolution; it's a commitment to personal growth and community engagement.

Understanding Your "Why"

Before diving into specific goals, it's crucial to understand your motivation. Whether it's to enhance your golf swing, enjoy longer tennis matches, or simply keep up with your grandchildren, finding your "why" provides a foundation for your fitness journey.

TYLER

ALTNOW Tyler is 6 years old and goes to Joe Serna Charter School, where his favorite subject is math. He loves Mac & Cheese and going to In & Out. Other than tennis, he loves golf and snow skiing. His favorite thing is animals and a hamster takes first place. He loves going on vacation with his family and when he grows up he wants to be a house designer.

BONUS TIP: People who are successful in staying motivated toward their goals write their “why’s” down and keep it where they can see it when the going gets tough.

Setting SMART Goals

SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, TimeBound) goals are a reliable way to ensure your fitness objectives are clear and attainable. Here’s how you can apply this:

1. Specific: Instead of a vague goal such as "get fit," aim for something precise, such as improving your tennis serve or increasing your walking distance on the golf course. 2. Measurable: Track your progress. Use apps or a simple journal to record your activities. 3. Achievable: Set realistic goals. If you’re new to fitness, aiming for a marathon might be a stretch, but a 5K could be a great start. 4. Relevant: Align your goals with your interests. If you enjoy socializing, group fitness classes or club tournaments can be both fun and motivating. 5. Time-Bound: Set a deadline. Having a timeframe keeps you accountable and helps measure success.
