Whenever I travel somewhere, I love to take pictures of myself and share them on social media with my friends. But I never know how to take that perfect, Instagram-worthy picture. I either don’t angle myself correctly or there is not enough light or my arms look really awkward. While I was trying to figure out some new poses to try out, I came across a travel blogger named Emily Rose who has a blog called "The Wanderlust Rose." She has some great tips on how to take the right kind of travel photo, and I realized that she and I actually have the same opinions on how to capture photos. So, I thought I might share with you some of the tips Emily and I believe will help you pose like the perfect influencer.
W H AT N OT TO D O
1. Don’t Have Awkward, Lifeless Arms According to Emily, this rule is one of the most important ones to follow when taking the right picture. You should not leave your arms hanging down by your side, no matter what you are doing in the photo. They will end up looking very lifeless and dead. I have always struggled with figuring out what to with my arms in a photo. I end up looking really weird and have to take the picture two-three more times just to get the right pose. Try to put some energy throughout your arms by maybe holding a coffee mug, touching the brim of your hat or clasping your hands in front of you. Even if you are facing away from the camera, you can clasp your hands in front of you with your arms bent a little so that they are full of life. Do anything except letting your arms hang down. It will definitely make your pictures look ten times better.

2. Don’t Have Tense Shoulders Try to avoid crunching your neckline while taking your snaps by raising your shoulders up to your ears. We often tend to have tense shoulders while sitting down for a while, so Emily suggests drawing your shoulders down and back in order for your chest to be open. This will help make you seem confident in your pictures. 3. Don’t Wing It I've made this mistake several times while taking pictures when I travel. I never make a plan or have an idea of what kind of photo I want to capture, and end up taking longer than usual to get the right one. So save yourself some time and go in with a plan on how you want to set up your picture, whether it’s where you will stand or what angle you want the photo taken from. Look up some ideas on Pinterest or go on Instagram and get some inspiration from your favorite influencers. Always have a game plan.
4. Don’t wear something uncomfortable In order to take the perfect travel picture, you should try wearing an outfit that is going to make you feel like a million bucks. By wearing something comfy, you will be more graceful in your photos. If you wear clothes that you have to keep fixing, you will not look relaxed. When packing for your trip, always take clothes with you that you love and will feel awesome in. I sometimes wear outfits that will only look cute in photos, but in reality, it’s either too tight or loose and I do not feel good on the inside. Being comfortable is the key to seeming confident in your photos. WHAT TO DO
1. Find your Angle Angling your body adds more creativity in your travel photos. Emily suggests turning your body at a 45-degree angle to make interesting lines and draw the audience more into your image. She also advises using your arms and legs to create triangular shapes. These lines will add more zest to your pictures and will allow you to do something with your arms. I’ve done this a few times too, and it really does make your shot look better. I took the photo below outside of our hotel when I went to see my relatives in India in 2015.
How to Take Insta-Worthy Travel Pics.qxp_Layout 1 6/7/21 1:03 PM Page 5
The way I angled my body adds more depth to the picture. Plus, I am wearing a comfy outfit which made my pose look even better (just like Rule 4 says for What Not to Do).
2. Make your Outfits Useful If you can, try to use your clothes as a way to enhance the energy in your snaps. You can swing your scarf around your neck, spin around in a dress or do what Emily has in her two pictures below and hold up one end of your skirt and step forward a little. You can also drape the train of your dress on something like in the third photo to show off its details. Using your outfits is an excellent way to make the clothes pop more while giving your arms some movement. 3. Face Away from the Camera This pose is probably one of the most common ones I have seen in travel pictures on Instagram. If you want to showcase your scenery more, then this is the best way to do that. You can position your body in a way that is natural yet relaxed, which will allow your surroundings to become the main attraction in the picture and will give the viewer a chance to imagine themselves in your place. If you are traveling with someone, you can pull their hand while facing away from the camera, which can help draw
the viewer in even more. One of the reasons I love when people do this pose is that I can admire the beauty of the scenery while picturing myself being in their shoes. 4. Give it a Laugh Another common type of travel photo people take are ones where they are laughing. If you are unsure of what kind of pose to do, then start by doing a fake laugh and pretty soon you'll actually be laughing. It will become so natural that it won’t look like you are pretending anymore. Nothing brings joy to a photo better than someone laughing and enjoying themselves. Just have fun while doing your shoot and you will end up capturing some great candid snaps. It may seem kind of silly to do this in a public place, but if you are confident in yourself and are comfortable with your photographer (or friends) then it will not be a problem.

NOTHING BRINGS JOY TO A PHOTO BETTER THAN SOMEONE LAUGHING A N D E N J OY I N G T H E M S E LV E S .
5. Use Props It can be hard to figure out what to do with your hands when posing for photos. And just as Emily says to not have “dead arms” while taking your pictures, you don’t want to have "dead hands" either. An easy way to fix this issue is to simply pick a prop. Holding it will help create an amazing aesthetic for your snaps. You can hold a coffee mug, flowers, a hat or anything. It can also help bring a pop of color to the image. The picture of me below is from my commencement in December 2019. I was holding a Starbucks coffee cup so that my hands wouldn't look so awkward.
I know it is not a travel photo, but it still gives you a rough idea of how you can pose with a prop. As long as you feel comfortable while posing, you will look fantastic in your pictures. Traveling is such a thrilling and exciting adventure, whether you're exploring a new country or touring within your own state. Anyone can share their fun experiences with their friends on social media. I hope these photography tips will help you take that perfect travel picture that will have people thinking you are an actual influencer. ALASKA
ALASKAN EXPLORER VIA GLACIER BAY Like prospectors of old, your journey to the Great Land begins in Seattle, a city known more today for coffee and tech than as a jumping-off point for Gold Rush frenzy. Your first destination is Juneau, where you can ascend up the Mount Roberts Tramway to get incredible views of the city or whirl away by helicopter to Mendenhall Glacier for a thrilling hike across the icy terrain. Next, while cruising Glacier Bay National Park & Preserve, survey hundreds of tidewater glaciers and listen for the sounds of calving ice that the native Tlingits call “white thunder.” If that’s not enough excitement for one day, spend your evening whale-watching from Icy Strait Point. From there, take in the rugged beauty surrounding Sitka on a remote fly-fishing excursion or a hike through the Tongass National Forest. Then, in Ketchikan, learn the meaning behind local totems from a Tlingit elder and visit a working Native carving house before starting your scenic journey back to Seattle.

Sri Lanka an Island of diversity
Half Moon Cay Bahamas
Anna Maria Island Florida
After years of civil war, Sir Lanka has pretty much fallen off the travel radar for a lot of people, however, in the last few years, tourists have started to return to the island nation in the Indian Ocean.
If you ever decide to take a trip to the beach, don't think local. Think outside the box. There are all kinds of beaches to attend, but the best ones have crystal blue water. That's why you should head to Half Moon Cay, Bahamas.
One of the many things that bring thousands of tourists to Florida every year is the weather. Escaping the teethchattering cold of winter or just the picturesque idea of a summer vacation on the beach is appealing to many.

Hunsader Farm Do you ever miss those days where things just ran a little simpler and a little slower? Where people laughed a little harder, talked a little louder and seemed to have a little more fun? Well, then you need to visit Hunsader Farms foryour next adventure! Family owned and operated, Hunsader Farms has been in business since 1967. After moving from Wisconsin to the Sunshine State, three Hunsader brothers planted their first crop of 80 acres of tomato. Throughout the years, it has expanded from just a vegetable farmland into a small culture where there's plenty to do for everyone.
to bring your fur babies to the festival as well. Bluegrass is always enjoyed at the concert stage with some funnel cake. So if you haven’t already heard of this farm, make sure to stop by and as the Hunsader Brothers would put it “come visit us as we help you catch a glimpse of days past when life was a little slower, a little sweeter, and a lot simpler.”
Hunsader Farms goes above and beyond their 80-acre farm, which also furnishes seasonal picking of fruits, vegetables and plants. It also has an ice cream shop, petting zoo, a playground with a bicycling/tractor race track, a concert stage, farmers market, outhouse, antique store and a little breakfast/lunch cafeteria. It’s a perfect outing for the whole family to enjoy! Hunsader Farms holds its pumpkin festival annually, which is very popular among the locals, surely pleasing the heart! The festival has live concerts, circus, monster trucks, the banana derby, motorcycle stunts, lumberjack show, car show, rodeos, costume contests and so much more! To top it off, you’re more than welcome

As the summer begins to set in and you are beginning to think of where to vacation, consider Puerto Rico if you’ve never been. Its beauty makes it the perfect vacation destination. One of its ultimate wonders that would bring magic to every trip would be the Laguna Grande, one of the three bioluminescent bays found in Puerto Rico. Kayaking tours are offered at night, the perfect time to see the Laguna glow as your kayak gently moves through the water
As you reach down, the water begins to glow as your fingers sway with the water. When the water is still, it is clear as the Caribean sea, but the laguna begins to brighten as soon as movement is added. Your hands hold the key to turning a calm, serene lake into a magical wonderland. Between your legs lies a glass panel in which you can gaze upon the animals of the bay. Fish, turtles, and if you’re lucky, or not so lucky, sharks swim by—the bioluminescent highlights their swift bodies as you observe from above. Calm fills the air as you look above; the sky is full of twinkling stars, and the cooling summer air fills your lungs. Pictures cannot compare to the astounding beauty and breathtaking nature of this experience. Tour guides discuss the scientific phenomenon that creates the magnificent scenery before you. You learn about the ecosystem and the unique animals that the Laguna inhabits. Moments of quiet allow for the ecosystem to share its melody and envelop you in a song of nature and peace. For a moment, the Laguna Grande is the entire world. The magic of the everchanging tide, the cool air, and twinkling stars are all you need to start the best summer ever.

I GOT MY
peaches OUT IN GEORGIA
I Got My Peaches Out in Georg.qxp_Layout 1 6/7/21 1:58 PM Page 2
I
got my peaches out in Georgia. Savannah to be exact. We found round-trip tickets out of Chicago for $90 on Allegiant Air, so we decided to take a four-day weekend and experience some of that sweet peach tea and warm Southern hospitality.
We found a cute Airbnb, which provided free bikes, about a mile away from the historical district. After settling into our Airbnb, we biked over to Green Truck Neighborhood Pub for the best cheeseburger and fries I’ve had in my life. It tasted like the ranch sauce was homemade with truffle oil, and the fries were sprinkled with parmesan seasoning. They have the sweetest staff too; they gave us free stickers when they found out their restaurant was the first place we wanted to eat in Savannah after seeing photos on Google. Saturday morning saw us waking up with the sunrise and wanting us to get an early start to our day. I thought a leisurely cruise along the riverfront sounded splendid, so we took our time biking through town and parked next to the lion goddess divine. What I thought were cool footbridges ended up being a downward brick lain spiral to the river walk.
After bopping around the riverfront and historic districts all morning, we decided to stop into Namaste Savannah, a local Nepali fusion restaurant that had the best grilled Chow Mein and samosas. Afterward, we biked through Forsyth Park to see the fountain and farmers market. If you’re in the mood for farm-fresh snacks along the way or a palm reading from the crystal jewelers, make sure to stop by before 1 p.m. when everyone starts to pack up their stocks and head home for the day. We came back home to rest and wait out the afternoon sun for a few hours. The intense Southern sun and high humidity can leave you feeling utterly exhausted. Ways I've found are best to recover with some "me time" are taking a soothing bath, writing in a journal and taking a quick pick-me-up nap. No trip to Savannah is complete without a visit to Starland. An artsy district with murals all over the insides and outsides of buildings, as well as the sidewalks. One of my favorite murals melted out of the ice cream parlor, down the stairs and straight out onto the concrete. It makes for a fun photo opportunity while you snack on some of the quirky ice cream flavors and shop nostalgic artware from local artisans in the shop inside. Treat yourself and get dessert before dinner: creamsicle ice cream in a creamsicle cone.
I Got My Peaches Out in Georg.qxp_Layout 1 6/7/21 1:58 PM Page 3
Dinner is a hop, skip and a jump away! I recommend The Verge, an Asian fusion kitchen with an enormous outdoor patio and wonderful wait staff. The pork dumplings are absolutely to die for. The dipping sauce drips down the side and melts into the pastry making a perfect fusion of haute explosions on your taste buds. For the main course, try the noodle stir fry, a side of French baguettes and a cilantro mojito to drink, I promise you won’t be disappointed. After all of the excitement and specialty cuisines of the last two days, I recommend a relaxing day at the beach. Bike to the local grocery store to pick up snacks and lunch, and call a Lyft to Tybee Island North Beach. If you get there before 11 a.m., you’ll be able to scope out a prime location on the beach and be one of the first ones in the water. Around noon, the tides start to pick up and you get to bounce around in the waves and watch local surfers glide along the coastal shore. My favorite part was my boyfriend spinning me around in the water while the pelicans flew overhead and dove into the water around us. It felt like we were in a magical tropical fantasy. After all the sunshine and relaxation, stop by the food stand to order a giant vanilla ice cream cone to cool off before your journey back to the city.

“Monday morning was our last few tourist stops before our flight back home. I wanted to visit Mirabelle, a local coffee shop that sells chocolate bars from around the world. ” After coming home and relaxing for a few hours, check out Zunzi’s for dinner! Their Conquistador sandwich was voted No. 1 Best Sandwich in Georgia by People magazine. Take it all in with their specialty blend of peach sweet tea. Between the reggae music, free popsicles and bottled water they’re handing out, this place has an amazingly chill vibe that made me want to stay and dance the night away. Monday morning was our last few tourist stops before our flight back home. I wanted to visit Mirabelle, a local coffee shop that sells chocolate bars from around the world. I picked out a François Pralus Pistachio Nougat that didn’t disappoint! It was the smoothest consistency I’ve ever experienced. It created the perfect pick me up before our walk to Mrs. Wilkes for lunch. I recommend showing up at around 9:30 a.m. if you have a tight schedule — we did and we were sixth in line. A half hour later saw an endless line wrapped around the building as locals and tourists piled together continuously through the lunch hours. We waited two hours and then my phone rang to let me know I could come inside to pick up my box of fried chicken and Southern sides. Enjoy your last Southern cooking foodie adventure until next time!

PURA VIDA: COSTA RICA
P
ura Vida travelers! Your next stop is a destination with no worries: Costa Rica. Known for its beaches, volcanoes and biodiverse atmosphere, this trip has many memories in store for you. Coast lining the Caribbean and Pacific while also inland to neighboring Panama and Nicaragua, you will get the best of land and sea. I’ve broken down three intervals of memory-makers that will guarantee a wanting for the next trip back. PLACES
>
Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve
To enjoy the real beauty of Costa Rica, you’ll have to go deep into the jungle. Well, rainforest. Costa Rica is one of the most biodiverse countries in the world. With more than 100 mammal, 400 types of birds and 2,500 plant species, you’ll want to make the trek to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve. Spanning a lush 25,000 acres, visitors can hike, sky walk (hanging bridges), bird watch, zip line or simply enjoy the fresh air.

Coreovado National Park
Like the beach? Visiting this special park will bring you to love the beach. First things first, the water is as blue as the sky. I know you will be skeptical until you see it with you own eyes. National Geographic has called it the "most biologically intense place on Earth." Truly, if you would like to spot a hummingbird, enjoy an avocado or see a spider monkey swinging
along their way, this is your mustgo journey for Costa Rica. Considered the largest park in Costa Rica, this reserve protects about a third of the Osa Peninsula. FOOD Bakeries/Panaderías
To enjoy the real beauty of Costa One thing you’ll definitely see in Costa Rica are bakeries. With breads including pan de manita
(strip bread), pan dulce (sweet bread) and pan casero (sweet or salty bread), you’ll find yourself nibbling through a whole loaf. There are a few well-known chin panaderías such as Musmanni, but take a leap into small artisanal bakeries around each city and town. Take San José’s Panadería Barrio Luján. It's common practice for families to have their own recipes, so there’s a chance of never having the same pan dulce twice.

HOT SOAK
“WHEN WATER AND MAGMA MIX, THE HOT SOAK WILL
NOT MISS. WITH MANY SPRINGS VARYING IN TEMPERATURE, THIS EXPERIENCE IS A
>
MUST-TRY
FOR COSTA RICA.”
Gallo Pinto
EXPERIENCE
It’s so simple: rice and beans, anyone can cook it, right? Costa Ricans have their own distinct spin on the dish. Usually called "pinto" by the locals, this breakfast platter is a great start to any day. You’ll see different variations on every menu. Additives like red bell peppers, cilantro, onions and Salsa Lizano will get you seeing why they call this meal a spotted rooster
The Springs
When water and magma mix, the hot soak will not miss. With many springs varying in temperature, this experience is a must-try for Costa Rica. Available at no cost to resorts, you can take your pick of experience on your budget. A personal pick would be the Tabacón Hot Springs. Not far from the infamous Arsenal Volcano, Tabacón thermal springs are 97% rainwater and 3% magma. With serene waterfalls, tropical surroundings and mineral richness, you'll always feel freer leaving the hot springs.

here can you enjoy a plethora of locally owned businesses with a funky, bohemian vibe set against the backdrop of beautiful blue-tinged mountains? West Asheville in western North Carolina offers miles of leisurely walking on a flat stretch of land overlooking the vista of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Grab your walking shoes and get ready to wander through flea markets, boutique shops and a variety of independently owned restaurants and bars serving craft cocktails and artisan meals. Here’s what the perfect weekend in Asheville can look like: FRIDAY: First of all, sleep in. Nothing opens in West Asheville before 8 a.m. Start your weekend off with some spice at Battlecat Coffee with a Mexican Mocha — dark chocolate, espresso, steamed milk and a hint of cayenne pepper. In the back of this artsy cafe, complete with mismatched chairs and comfy, second-hand couches is Tiger Bay Café, which serves tasty breakfast burritos and Cuban-inspired breakfast sandwiches. If you’re ready to walk, take a right onto Haywood Road and continue for about a tenth of a mile until you reach the triangular
intersection of Westwood Place, across from Hot Stuff Tattoo Shop. Stop to peruse some vinyl at Harvest Records and then cross the street for a lovely little nook of shops in a historic building. Bagatelle Books is a quaint second-hand bookstore with rare finds, carefully curated and organized into easy-to-browse categories. You can find vintage children’s books with alluring well-preserved covers and hand-tipped illustrations or a bargain book on a quirky subject you never knew you needed to read about, like Appalachian storytelling. Just next door is Flora, a magical botanical experience for the senses. Imagine walking into a fresh blend of lush green plants hanging next to one-of-a-kind farmhouse-style decorations, artisanal candles and herbs galore. It also houses Forage, a tiny coffee shop where you can sit and soak up all the earthy scents blending together in harmony. Take another left onto Haywood and walk about 100 feet to Whist, where you can find unique gifts, cards and art supplies to bring home as souvenirs. Everything from pop culture art to hand-stitched embroidery kits will entice you to indulge your creative side. Careful, you can lose hours in this store just gazing at all the original artwork and colorful displays.

Ready for lunch? Try Sunny Point Cafe, a 10-minute walk across the interstate bridge. Pause to view the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains on both sides before arriving at the shaded courtyard, where you can rest on a bench enjoying organic coffee while waiting for your table to be ready. The Southern comfort food is worth the wait; try the black bean and cheddar omelet or the chicken and waffle sandwich if you’re feeling extra hungry. You can continue left on Haywood Road by walking five minutes toward downtown West Asheville and visiting Provisions, an upscale version of an old-fashioned mercantile store, and Reciprocity, a resale boutique with handpicked women’s clothing and accessories. Or you can take a well-deserved nap and gear up for a fun night out! For dinner, try WALK, West Asheville Lounge and Kitchen, located at 401 Haywood Road. You can enjoy an open-air window seat that overlooks all your pedestrian travels from earlier while sipping on local beer or a craft cocktail and feasting on their delicious super queso or pulled pork sammies. Across the street is Fleetwood's, a rock-n-roll wedding chapel that also contains a vintage shop, bar and event venue that offers karaoke nights, concerts and comedian showcases. Cap off the night at the Whale, a craft-beer collective with outdoor seating and a nauticalthemed atmosphere.
“WALK, WEST ASHEVILLE LOUNGE AND KITCHEN ENJOY AN OPEN-AIR WINDOW SEAT WHILE SIPPING ON LOCAL BEER OR A CRAFT COCKTAIL.

SATURDAY: We’re going to take it slow today, since you saw, and walked, so much yesterday. Begin the day with a unique breakfast experience at Taco Billy, located around the corner, to the left and down the hill from yesterday’s Battlecat start. Taco Billy offers organic and vegan creations such as the “Support Group” taco with cumin sweet potatoes, pecan and black bean hummus, roasted pepitas, avocado, spinach and coconut crema, all on a house-made plantain tortilla. Walk downhill toward the French Broad River and enjoy the scenery from the bridge as you enter the River Arts District. The RAD, as locals call it, has an industrial, artsy feel complemented by the everchanging, gorgeous graffiti decorating the buildings lining the Asheville Greenway. Take your time exploring the local artist studios and catch a glass-blowing demonstration on Second Saturdays each month.
You might choose to rent a paddleboard, tube or kayak at Asheville Outdoor Center, or continue on foot along the well-paved and pedestrian-friendly Asheville Greenway lining the river banks. Stop for a beer at the Wedge Brewery, downstairs from the art galleries, or continue your walk to its second location along the greenway and next door to even more art galleries, antique shops and restaurants such as 12 Bones, a local smokehouse that was graced by former President Barack Obama. At night, check out the Grey Eagle Tavern and Taqueria for authentic and fresh LatinAmerican cuisine and a concert, with both local and national acts. Or, you can experience more of the art scene with a trip just across the street to the Magnetic Theater, which hosts diverse plays, variety shows and dance troupes. SUNDAY: We’re heading back to Haywood Road to relish in a luscious brunch at Tastee Diner, a 1950s-themed restaurant where breakfast is served all day. They also have crispy fried chicken, burgers and “adult shakes,” like the “Get Up/Stand Up” coffee and Bailey’s or “The Elvis” with peanut butter, banana, vanilla ice cream, bacon and bourbon.

Walk off that delightful meal with a trip to any of the outdoor flea markets that line Haywood Road on Sunday afternoons, such as ones outside the Whale and Fleetwood’s that you got to know Friday night. Next, slow down even more to explore the West Asheville neighborhood gardens. An official guided stroll happens each September, but just by heading down Virginia Avenue in downtown West Asheville, you’re sure to find many meandering options to view these beautifully kept gardens from the shaded sidewalks of historic neighborhoods. I hope you’ve enjoyed your slow-paced walking tour of West Asheville, or as the locals call it “Best Asheville.”

N
ashville, Tennessee, is one of the most talked about cities in the U.S. for its lively music towns and great hospitality. Anyone who comes down has a grand old time. But sometimes it can get confusing on what to do and where to go, especially in a big city like Nashville. There are so many attractions to visit that it becomes hard to determine where to start. There’s an array of music museums, art galleries and amazing restaurants to choose from. What do you do? Well, no worries. I am here to help break down the sights, sounds and smells (food) of the nation’s music capital. Music Museums Nashville has a variety of music museums that showcase priceless artifacts such as song recordings, photographs, stage costumes, musical instruments and many more. You will also get to have a sneak peek into the lives of past and present musicians from all genres of music who have shaped the city into the music capital that it is today. Here are a few of them:
Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum This museum is one of the largest museums in the world that is specifically dedicated to country music. Learn about the cultural importance and history of country music through several exhibits, publications and educational programs. Explore the permanent objects collection that includes more than 800 costumes, 600 instruments and many other objects like microphones and automobiles. You can also upgrade your experience by adding in a tour of the Historic RCA Studio B, which is the only studio tour that gives you an inside look into the heart of Nashville’s Sound during one of its most exciting, classic periods. If you are a diehard country music fan, this museum is the perfect one to visit and an excellent way to start off your Nashville trip. You can visit the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum website for more information on ticket sales and what else the museum has to offer at countrymusichalloffame.org.

The Johnny Cash Museum Any Johnny Cash fan will fall absolutely in love with this museum! The Johnny Cash Museum is located in the heart of downtown Nashville and has the world’s biggest collection of artifacts and memorabilia dedicated to the late “Man in Black.” Reminisce Cash’s life and legacy through his costumes, instruments, personal letters, handwritten lyrics and contributions that were made from his family and friends. For more information about the Johnny Cash Museum, you can check out the website at johnnycashmuseum.com. Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum Have you ever wondered who the brilliant minds were behind some of the most iconic songs of our time? Well, you can learn more about these musicians in the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum. This museum has several exhibits honoring the musicians, engineers and producers who have contributed to your favorite songs, but have never been seen. The museum also features memorabilia from artists, including Elvis Presley’s studio, Glen Campbell’s guitars and one of Jimi Hendrix’s Stratocaster guitars and the Nashville stage he performed on. There is also a Grammy Museum Gallery, which is an interactive exhibit where you can mix your own music in a real sound booth, perform on a stage or even sing backup for Ray Charles. This museum is definitely one you want on your tour list. AS THE WORLD’S ONLY FULL-SCALE REPLICA OF THE FAMOUS GREEK TEMPLE, THE PARTHENON STANDS AS THE CENTERPIECE OF THE CENTEN NIAL PARK, WHICH IS ONE OF NASHVILLE’S MOST FAMOUS PARKS.
National Museum of African American Music
The Parthenon
Discover the significant role African Americans have played in making and shaping all genres of American music at the National Museum of African American Music (NMAAM). This museum combines history and interactive exhibits to share the story of more than 50 genres of music such as classical, country, jazz, hip hop and sub-genres too. It’s an amazing opportunity to learn more about the contribution African American musicians and artists have made in creating some of the most popular musical genres of all time. If you would like more information about the National Museum of African American Music, you can visit their website nmaam.org.
As the world’s only full-scale replica of the famous Greek temple, the Parthenon stands as the centerpiece of the Centennial Park, which is one of Nashville’s most famous parks. The Parthenon serves as a monument to what is considered to be the epitome of classical architecture and art. The museum inside focuses on the Parthenon’s collection of 63 paintings by 19th and 20th century American artists that were donated by James M. Cowan. There is also a recreation of the famous statue of Athena Parthenosstanding at 42 feet, it is the tallest indoor sculpture of the Western world. One of my friends recently took a road trip to Nashville and absolutely loved the Parthenon. She said the artwork was really interesting and beautiful. This is definitely a must-see for any visitor who comes to Nashville. For more information on the Parthenon, you can check out their website nashvilleparthenon.com.
Visual Art Museums Along with the thriving music scene in Nashville, the city’s art scene is growing day by day with its creative murals, street art, art galleries and museums showcasing the many new and upcoming artists in the city and state. Here are a few art museums that will surely have you appreciating the wonders of art a bit more.

21c Museum Hotel The 21c Museum Hotel is not only a hotel but includes one of the “largest, multi-venue contemporary art museums in the United States.” The 21c was originally Nashville’s historic Gray & Dudley building, but has been reinvented into a public contemporary art museum, hotel, restaurant and bar. The museum has around 10,500 square feet of space where organized art exhibitions and installations reflect the contemporary culture. The exhibitions and cultural programming rotate, so there is no bad time to come and visit this exquisite museum. As of now, only hotel and restaurant patrons can visit the museum. But the hotel is a great place to stay as well, so if you love contemporary art and are looking for a place to stay, this would be an excellent place for you. You can visit the 21c Museum Hotel website at 21cmuseumhotels.com/nashville/ for more information about their museum and hotel reservations. Tennessee State Museum As one of the largest state museums in the country, the Tennessee State Museum showcases over 13,000 years of Tennessean art and history. The museum features several interactive exhibits including a “Tennessee Time Tunnel,” a children’s gallery and a digital learning center. Tennessee State also hosts special exhibitions dedicated towards Tennessean art, crafts, music and history. In 2020, an exhibition celebrated the centennial of the passing of the 19th amendmentwhich gave women the right to vote-and will be available for visitation till September 26, 2021. Where to Eat In addition to the amount of fun and entertaining attractions Nashville has to offer, there are many delicious restaurants and food spots to try out. From culinary food, brunch dishes, barbecue and the classic Nashville hot chicken sandwich, they have it all. My friend recommended the top three restaurants she thinks are some of the best ones to check out while in Nashville: Stateside Kitchen Located inside the DREAM Nashville Hotel, Stateside Kitchen offers tasty seasonal cuisines in a brasserie-style restaurant. They focus on creating dishes that are made out of fresh flavors and locally sourced ingredients that suit every kind of taste palette. The restaurant itself is housed under a glass atrium that was designed by a Nashville design firm called Meyer Davis Studio. The restaurant has a new theme each season, and at the time my friend went, there was a springtime garden theme. Plus, the hotel itself is right around the corner from the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum so you can just pop right on over after having a delicious meal. If you would like more information about Stateside Kitchen, you can visit the DREAM Nashville Hotel website at dreamhotels.com/nashville/dining-en.html. Dierks Bentely’s Whiskey Row Named after one of the most famous country singers Dierks Bentely, Whiskey Row is a casual, gastropub that has a wide variety of sandwiches, burgers, and entrees. If you are looking for a good brunch spot, Whiskey Row has all your favorite dishes from Monte Cristo French Toast, Dierks scrambled egg to the classic chicken and waffles. For lunch, my friend ordered the Catfish and Chips, which is a cornmeal-crusted catfish served with a brussels sprout slaw, tartar sauce and fries.
The restaurant features two floors and a rooftop patio. The first two floors have live music daily, with the second floor including a DJ booth, dance floor and VIP tables for flight service. The patio is open daily and has a beautiful view of Lower Broadway and the historic Ryman Auditorium. This is a great restaurant for anyone looking for a casual spot to eat, and is perfectly situated on the corner of Broadway and 4th Ave N., so you can enjoy the downtown life of Nashville at the same time. For more information on Dierks Bentely’s Whiskey Row, you can visit their website at dierkswhiskeyrow.com/nashville-tn/. Gracie’s Milkshake Bar Looking for something sweet instead? Gracie's Milkshake Bar specializes in monster-sized, extravagant milkshakes that could possibly be eaten as a meal for breakfast, lunch or dinner. There are so many milkshakes to choose from like The Cookie Monster, The Bonfire (smore’s) and The Fuego which is a bit spicy. My friend got The Unicorn shake, which is a strawberry milkshake rolled in vanilla icing and dipped in sprinkles, topped with whipped cream, a pop tart, a waffle cone and a cherry. Gracie’s also has simple milkshakes, ice cream floats and fries. Anyone who has a big sweet tooth will love this place. If you would like more information about Gracie’s Milkshake Bar, you can visit their website at graciesmilkshakebar.info. re you stuck at home searching for a place to spend your summer? Somewhere that you can escape life and relax?
Well I have found a solution for you: Chios, Greece, an island situated 5 miles off the western coast of Turkey in the Aegean Sea. Chios is one of the most beautiful islands in the world. It is a place that fills your heart with peace and joy. The view in the airplane before landing is so breathtaking that you cannot wait to experience its serene Mediterranean waters. It is known as an ideal attraction for holidays where you can soak up the sun and nourish yourself with food made from fresh, organic ingredients. Chios is the fifth largest of the Greek islands, and is known for its mastic exports and nickname, “The Island of Mastic.” Tourist attractions include the medieval villages and the 11th-century Nea Moni Monastery. The terrain is mountainous, with a mountain ridge covering the entire island. The two largest of these mountains, Pelineon and Epos, are located in the north of the island. In the middle of the East Coast is the main city, Chios, and the areas of Vrontados and Kampos. The city of Chios has a population of 32,400, and is built around the main port of the island and the medieval castle. North of the city is the large suburb of Vrontados, which is known as
the birthplace of Homer. In the southern part of the island are Mesta, Pyrgi, Olympi. Along the east coast are the fishing villages of Katarraktis and to the south, Nenita. For people who are interested in learning about the history of the island, there are several historic villages you can go to in the Southern part of Chios including Armolia, Myrmigi and Kallimasia. The oldest villages are Pyrgi and Mesta — when Chios was invaded by Turkish pirates in 1319, the houses were built a certain way so the pirates wouldn’t be able to invade and take control of them. These houses stand still today. The climate of the island is warm and moderate, with the average temperatures ranging from a summer high of 81 degrees to a winter low of 52 degrees. Chios is the ideal place to go any time of year because you never have to worry about it ever getting too cold during the winter or too hot during the summer. Chios owes its source of wealth to a tree that was once not grown anywhere else on Earth than the southern part of the island. Mastic trees are the brand of Chios and the main source of income for many of the island’s inhabitants. Its cultivation began in ancient times and its rare resin is exported to many countries.

The mastic trees of Chios produce a resin that comes out of their bark in the shape of tears. This resin is used to create various products, especially chewing gum, as well as quality spices, spirits, sweets and medicines. There are many stores where you can buy mastic products in Chios’ towns. A quick history fact about these trees is that although Chios is not the only place where mastic is grown, it is the only place where the resin comes out. According to ancient legend, mastic began to weep as an expression of mourning when St. Isidore was brutally tortured in Chios by the Romans. The mastic tree is called “Skinos” by the locals. The mastic tree grows only in the south of the island. The main villages where mastic is located — Lithi, Vessa, Elata, Mesta, Olympi, Pyrgi, Armolia and Kalamoti — are known as Mastichochoria. The city of Chios, called “Chora” is the administrative, cultural and commercial center of the island, as well as its most important port. Today, Chios is a vibrant city with many maritime activities. It is also the cultural center of the island. Elements of the past and the present are mixed in the central square of Vounaki Square. In Chios town, there is something for everyone. For those of us who like to explore the history of the island, around the square is the Byzantine Museum, the old castle, and the Municipal Park with statues of famous people who helped Chios get to where it is now. To the south of the square is the main street of the city, Aplotaria Street, which crosses the center of the old town. On Aplotaria Street, there are 19th and 20th century urban buildings, as well as many shops and restuarants that serve exquisite Greek food.

CHIOS IS ALSO KNOWN FOR ITS crystal CLEAR BEACHES. ORMOS LO IN VRONTADOS IS POPULAR BEACH among TEENAGERS AND FAMILIES.
Toward the end of the road and to the east, Filippou Argenti Street leads to the historic High School of Chios, founded in 1792; the Cathedral of the City; and the Historic Library of Korai. Vrontados is a suburb of the city of Chios known for its long naval tradition. However, Vrontados has gained fame due to the Easter tradition called Rocket War, when missiles are thrown in the air at noon on Holy Saturday, including a contest to see who has the highest rocket. This is there to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. To the north is Daskalopetra, the archeological site of the temple of Kyveli, which, according to tradition, was the place where Homer taught. The inhabitants of Armolia have a long tradition in ceramics, such as pitchers, vases, bowls and glasses. It is an old village where tourists go to purchase handmade ceramics. The monastery of Nea Moni was built in the 11th century, by the emperor Constantine the Gladiator. Its architectural design follows the art of the Byzantine capital, Istanbul. Nea Moni is one of the most popular monasteries of Chios. Agia Eleni and Konstantinos is also a popular church in Chios dedicated to Agia Eleni and Konstantinos.
Chios is also known for its crystal clear beaches. Ormos Lo in Vrontados is popular beach among teenagers and families. It has sports facilities and small pebbles and shallow water, making it great for families. In Chios, there are many opportunities to try your hand in different water sports. You can ride jet skis or go water skiing, learn how to sail a yacht or discover your newfound passion for canoeing or surfing. You can also buy or rent snorkeling equipment. There are many beaches dedicated to the saints, but the most popular are Agia Markella and Agia Fotia. Agia Markella is popular because there is a monastery built on the beach, and on July 22, when the patron saint of Chios is celebrated, the beach is full. The image on the left shows a cross, which is on the beach and represents the area that Saint Markella died. The rocks are said to spout holy water because Saint Markella hid in the rocks to protect herself. Agia Fotia is very popular among adults because of its bars and clubs. Mavra Volia, Komi and Lithi are also big tourist spots and are very clean. When I go to Chios, my personal favorite beaches are Komi and Lithi.

One museum that is very important in Chios is the Mastic Museum of Chios, located on a hill in Pyrgi. The museum contains exhibits that demonstrate how the mastic products are formed and how mastic resin is collected from trees and turned into mastic, creams and other products. Machines and tools used for mastic production are on display for all to see. You can visit the mastic trees outside, visit the cafe, enjoy the scenery and fresh air, and visit the gift shop. It is an amazing day trip destination! Chios is truly a magical island that transports you to another planet, especially with its food. Tsikla Chiou is a type of chewing gum made from Masticha Chiou mastic tree resin, softeners and sugar. It is white to light yellow in color and has a strong flavor of mastic. Not only does it taste amazing, but scientists have proven that if used for an extended period of time, it can cause significant reduction of dental plaque and improve dental health. Kopanisti is a cheese spread that is traditionally produced from cow's, goat's or sheep's milk, or a combination of the three taken from breeds on the Cyclades in the Southern Aegean Sea. The flavor of this white to slightly pink cheese is often described as spicy and peppery. The cheese is mainly served as an appetizer alongside a glass of ouzo (licorice alcoholic drink) and is often used in traditional dishes and sandwiches. My personal favorite food whenever I go to Chios is Mastelo cheese. There are two types of Mastelo: one is made from Chian cow's milk, and the other one from goat's milk. The flavors are slightly salty and milky, and it tastes amazing when grilled.

You can find horiatiki (house) salad at every tavern — usually made with olives, tomatoes, cucumbers, green peppers, onions, capers and feta cheese. The salad is not always seasoned with oil, but don’t worry: you can find a bottle of olive oil and vinegar on the table and add it to your food. Don’t pass by tzatziki, a yogurt spread with cucumbers and garlic. It is usually used as a sauce to pita bread or used in gyro (rotisserie meat made from lamb, beef, pork or chicken) or souvlaki (shish kebab) sandwiches. Souvlaki is a popular food in Chios. It is usually made with beef or pork, but now you can pretty much find souvlaki with chicken, seafood or vegetables, too. Some other meat dishes in Chios are paidakia, which are grilled lamb chops or moussaka, a layered dish made with minced meat, eggplants and potatoes with bechamel sauce. Pastitsio is a baked pasta dish with ground meat and bechamel sauce. Fish can be found in fish taverns, also known as psarotaverna. Oysters, mussels and calamari are very popular. Don’t miss the opportunity to eat some octopus, whether it be grilled or broiled. Vasilopita is a traditional dessert: a lemon cake with herbs. Galaktoboureko is a traditional Greek pie with cream inside and phyllo on the outside. Coffee and juice are common soft drinks on the island. Frappe is a type of whipped iced coffee that is very popular in Greece. Ouzo and souma are popular alcoholic beverages. In case you have had a long night, try the patsas soup — it will help you feel better. It is tripe soup with herbs, garlic and spices. I know it might not sound good, but trust me, once you take a sip of it, you will want more!
Chios has a varied nightlife, mostly in Chios Town and in the tourist resort of Karfas. There are many bars and a few nightclubs that have all kinds of music in town and at the beach resort lining the waterfront. There is also a club situated in Pyrgi called After. When it is a Saint’s feast day, certain villages have parties with drinking and dancing into the wee hours of the night. Chios’ hotels are very cozy and welcoming. The Grecian Castle is located in Chios Town and is made up of old stone buildings. You can see antique, medieval-style furniture and chandeliers, as well as beautiful paintings created by Chian artists. Chandris hotel, which is also located in Chios town, is a very cozy and classy hotel that is within easy walking distance of the town’s restaurants and marketplace. Families should visit during the last few weeks of August, when the Luna Park amusement park comes to town. Every year when I go to Chios, I always visit this park and have a great time with my sister and cousins. There are bumper cars, trampolines, water squirt gun games and a roller coaster. Entrance admission is free, but there are admission tickets for the rides. For younger children, there is a train ride and a swing set ride. Next door to Chandris, there is also a bowling alley with a bar, pool table and a few arcade games. It is popular among teens although many families also bring their children there. Chios is truly a magical place. It is so wonderful that even the most fastidious visitor will be reluctant to leave. From the sights to the food, from the natural beauties to its incomparable architecture, Chios is a place that will not only touch your heart, but will capture your mind forever, trapping your thoughts in its wonderful memories. I admit it, it has me!
