THINGS TO DO Beaches If you have been waiting to have a true tropical vacation full of peace and serenity on a calm beach, then Lanai has the perfect set of beaches for you. The island has eighteen miles of coastline scattered with remote beaches, where you can feel the soft white sand between your toes while watching the crisp waves crash on the land. Two of Lanai’s most popular beaches are the Hulopoe Beach Park and Polihua Beach, which are located on the North and South parts of Lanai. Hulopoe Beach Park can be found on the southern coast of Hulopoe Bay, which is in front of the grand Four Seasons Resort Lanai. With exciting snorkeling adventures in the crystal waters, huge tide pools to explore and an iconic Lanai landmark Puu Pehe just a small hike away, there are plenty of activities for tourists to enjoy.

You can find all the water
in Hulopoe Bay, which is considered
as one of the island’s most beautiful places to swim and snorkel. Besides having a nice, relaxing getaway on the beaches, there are many different land activities you can do as well. You can take a quick but calming twenty-minute hike along the Hulopoe Bay all the way to the cliffs that give you a beautiful view of Puu Pehe. If you would like a bit more of a challenging hike, you can make your way down the Munro Trail that starts from the Four Seasons Resort Lanai, goes through the mountain grasslands and rainforests, and ends at the 3,370-foot peak of Lanaihale. If hiking is not really your thing, not to worry. There are plenty of beautiful gardens, plantations and parks you can stroll through as well. Palawai Basin, which was once the world’s largest pineapple plantation, is a now a lovely open plain to explore. The Kanepuu Preserve is an excellent place to visit if you are interested in learning about Lanai’s forty-eight species of endemic plants. You can also experience a very trippy, moon-like rock garden called Keahiakawelo or the Garden of the Gods and feel like you are on a totally different planet. Lanai also an amazing horseback riding session through the Lanai Adventures. You can take either a nice, relaxing ride through the hills surrounding Koele or tour the green, lush woodlands that is home to the axis deer, Mouflon sheep and turkey. Share stories with your wrangler as you venture through the Ironwood forests to stunning views of other neighboring islands. There are many kinds of trails to explore which makes it perfect for tourists of all ages and skill levels to try out. There are customizable, private trips, children’s and carriage rides and individual lessons available as well.
THINGS TO DO Water Activities We, of course, cannot forget to mention about all the fun water activities Lanai has to offer. You can find all the water adventures in Hulopoe Bay, which is considered as one of the island’s most beautiful places to swim and snorkel. Because it is a protected bay, it is an excellent place to sunbath, snorkel and tour the various tide pools that are carved out of volcanic rock. You may even see some spinner dolphins and other kinds of marine life playing just off the shore.

Boating is one of the many exciting water activities that is perfect for anyone who wants a romantic getaway or to simply enjoy a nice boat ride to unwind from a long day. Lanai has some lovely coastal cliffs and beaches that are enjoyed best from the water. You can book a sunrise or sunset sail through Lana’i Ocean Sports, which is the island’s tour company. There are day trips available as well that take visitors to and from Manele Harbor and Lahaina Harbor in Maui through the Expeditions Ferry service. The trip lasts around an hour and there are multiple round-trips every day. And, depending on what time of the year you are visiting, ferry rides are a great way to see humpback whales in the Auau Channel, which is one of the whales’ most traveled ocean passages.
There are also snorkeling and scuba diving opportunities in Lanai on the beaches of Hulopoe Bay and Polihua. The Bay is a great spot for anyone who is just learning how to snorkel since the waters are a lot calmer, and there are plenty of colorful fish to scour near the shore. For more professional scuba divers, the Lanai Cathedrals are perfect to explore and is the island’s most popular diving spot. The First and Second Cathedral were formed from huge underwater tubes, and when a light is shone through the holes in the lava, it seems as if the sunlight is shining through the stained-glass windows of the underwater church.
It’s a one-of-a-kind diving experience that you should not miss out. The Trilogy Ocean Sports Lanai is the only diving operation on the island to book your adventure, or you can book a diving tour from the neighboring island Maui.

There are year-round coastal sails and boat charters offered by Lana’I Ocean Sports that you can book to see the whales. You can also take the Expeditions passenger ferry from Manele Harbor to Maui and if you are lucky, you might spot some of the whales. But, you do not necessarily need a boat to see the whales. At places like Puu Pehe and the Four Seasons Resort Lanai, you can have a glimpse of the whales swimming around just off the coast. Lanai, Hawaii is the perfect tropical getaway for anyone who wants to have a very pleasant and relaxing vacation. It is a fantastic way to start off your new year. We all decided to go to Whiskey Joe’s for lunch on New Year’s Eve. It’s a national chain restaurant that recently opened a branch in the Manatee area. It’s located on the river where you could also dock your boat and just enjoy the view with some food drinks and company.
Whiskey Joe’s is definitely a restaurant to try out especially if you enjoy the outdoor bar scene. It’s family friendly and has a good selection of food and drinks. One of the more famous drinks that they offer is the Whiskey Joe’s Red beer. It has a robust zesty taste to it without weighing you down like normal store bought beer. The dining room is divided into three sections, indoor, outdoor deck and outdoor sand section which is straight on the river. The indoor section is pretty
small with a few tables and wide windows on one side facing the deck. The outdoor deck seating is shaded in and is elevated from the sand area to minimize the sand entering the indoor dining area. The outdoor sand section is where all the fun is, it has some umbrella seating, tiki seating, a bonfire gathering, a small tiki bar, and live music starting at 8:30pm. The waitresses wore feathery New Year’s Eve hats to ring in the new year and the festivities. The tone of the restaurant is very laid back, relaxed and family friendly.
It’s family friendly and has a good selection of food and drinks.

Whiskey Joe’s has much to offer than just its bar and restaurant outlook. They also offer some retail items at the entrance of the door, some beach shirts, sweaters, margarita cups, beer mugs, shots, fruit drink cups, New Years Eve hats and accessories such as necklace beads, and eye masks. All in all, it definitely is a place to visit whether your a townie like me or a tourist wanting a memorable great evening with some souvenirs for you and for the ones back home. Webster’s Dictionary defines resolution as a position arrived at with consideration. Taking that into consideration, how many people actually take a lot of consideration into their New Year’s Resolutions? Most people literally make the same resolutions every year: lose weight, get in shape, drink more water, etc. Rarely does anyone keep those resolutions either. So how do we make a New Year’s Resolution and make it happen? While searching the internet for ideas about making a good realistic resolution for the New Year, I found one in similarity in themes. Everybody has an opinion about what’s the best resolution to make and the best way to accomplish said resolution. One thing they all seem to agree on is that your resolution should ideally improve your life in some way.

ot only should you pick the right resolution for you, but you need to be specific. In other words, don’t just say that you are going to lose weight, for example.
Be specific and make a concrete realistic goal by saying that you will lose a specific amount of weight in a certain amount of time. Also make your goals measurable and achievable. After you’ve lost a certain amount of weight, take a picture, and compare it to one taken pre-weight loss. Having your goal be achievable does not mean that you can’t dream big. Let’s use the weight, like one hundred pounds. Nobody is telling you that is unachievable, because it definitely is, but instead of setting heart on the total amount that you want to lose in total. Instead take baby steps by saying even though you want to lose one hundred pounds within a year’s time and will lost nine pounds per month until you reach that final goal of one hundred pounds total. Before doing all this work, make sure that your resolution is relevant for you. Do you have one hundred pounds to lose? Are you over weight by one hundred pounds or more? Are you making this resolution for yourself? Don’t do it if it isn’t. Besides losing weight, which is a very popular resolution by the way, there are other’s that can help make us a better person. Some that I found on the internet were ridiculous or redundant, such as eat less calories, exercise more, try out a new diet plan, do more yoga, etc. Let us not forget the easiest one to achieve, become a plant person. Go to the store on January second and buy a couple of plants. Resolution achieved. Some of the better ones I found were, create a new budget if you’re not saving as much as you’d like, learn a new skill or language, take the stairs more or park farther away from the entrance. Or you can be more creative with your New Year’s
Resolutions. One that I like but isn’t very practical at this time is throw a dart at a map and go to that destination. Find someone to mentor. Is there something you really love doing or know someone who is interested in the same career that you have or just started working where you are employed, take them under your wing and always be available for advice or wisdom. How about inventing and hosting an annual event. A huge Halloween bash? Do it. Have a group of friends without family nearby? Invite them to your home for Friends-giving. Have a benefit for charity. Make a new friend. A person can never have too many friends in their life. Or maybe reconnect with an old friend. Lost touch with an old classmate or your old college roommate, or maybe an old military buddy? With social media and the internet, it’s a lot easier to find people today. Whatever the resolution that’s chosen, don’t beat yourself up if you don’t achieve your final goal. More than ninety-nine percent of those who do make a yearly resolution on New Year’s Eve, don’t achieve their final goal. I personally believe that most people just make them because it is an old tradition.
