On the football side our biggest change has been the restructured junior football age groups with a close alignment to the other leagues with under 17.5, under 14.5 and under 12 compe ons. The newly formed Limestone Coast FootballNetballLeague(LCFNL)will hit the courts for the first me on April 20 as the six founda on clubs start their campaigns to claim the inaugural LCFNL A Grade netball tle.
All six clubs enter the 2024 compe on with changes to either their coaching and/or playing personnelfromthe2023season.
At Island Park, Jodie Humphries is returning to the head coach role a er a brief hiatus, as the Cats look to start life in the new league with improvedoncourtsuccess.
Young u lity Chloe Foster and mid courter Chelsey Galpin have been lost from the 2023 line-up – Foster having headed to university and Foster taking some me away from thecourt.
But the Cats have managed to garnertwonewrecruits, withChloe Finnigan set to fill the void le by Foster and Galpin and Holly Smith adding some height and versa lity totheline-upwithherabilitytoplay eitherend.
Both players have joined Casterton SandfordfromDartmoor.
The club’s junior talent, young goaler Chelsea Hulm and speedy midcourterIndiLonghurst, willalso supplementtheAGradesquad.
East Gambier will be one of the most changed line-ups and those changes start at the top with Malinda Foster in the head coach role.
Fosterplayerallherjuniornetballat the kennel and is returning from a number of seasons at Glencoe, addingsomelongrangeaccuracyto the shoo ng circle as well as her
coachingnous.
Sheistakingonagroupthathaslost t h e ex p e r i e n c e o f c l a s sy midcourters Tarsh McCallum (injury) and Emily Neave (nee Hunter – pregnant) and Chloe Perryman.
Kimberley Loughhead has returned a er some extended me away from the court, with Courtney Sanders, Sophie Couldrey and Tonique Burford adding to the Bulldogs’a depth, as will teenage goaler Ambah Beveridge, who had some meontheAGradecourtlast season, and Talia Geraghty - a defensiveasset.
Millicent’s line-up has a very familiar feel with Donna Denton and Michelle Skeer at the helm and a stable squad to choose from with the excep on of Kimmi Tincknell (pregnancy).
The Saints blend of youth and experience will see them as one of thecompe onpacese ers.
A line-up that has names like Demi Verbena, Lisa Duldig, Por a McRae, Lillie Paul and Edie Easterby regularly in its line-up is always goingtobeinthemix.
North Gambier has lured Kaitlin Egan back to Vansi art Park, fresh from a s nt at Penola that saw her leadtheclubtotwo tles.
With Noni McConnell (pregnant) and Mikalia Pi not able to fill a defensive role this season, with emergence of Stella Mobbs will be key, while Egan’s experience and versa lity will be invaluable on court.
The Tigers have also snared Walkerville player Kelly Lockwood, who has returned to the region, so
with another year under the belt of some of their young players, North Gambierloomslarge.
South Gambier has installed club life member Brandi Bouchier in the head coaching role and this is another team that will unveil some newfacesintheredandwhite.
Teresa Humphris, who has moved to Mount Gambier in 2024, will add somespeed, smartsandexperience to the mid court, while Ashleigh Widdison will bring a strong physical presence to the shoo ng circle and Mykaela Thiele will be joining Ellie Bouchier in the defensive circle, earning her stripes aspartoftheAGradeline-up.
Alyssa Duncan will be sorely missed for court cra , leadership and smartsintheshoo ngcircle.
West Gambier will see Lisa McGregor joined in the senior coaching role with star shooter SarahRi erandwiththosetwoalso combining in the shoo ng circle, the Roos again loom large as a contender
At the other end of the court, Jade Ri er is stepping away from the defensive circle and the off season has seen Mikaela Horrigan take the goal keeper bib and start to form a combina onwithAmyCram.
The mid court will enjoy a boost with the return of Jess Holmes (nee Bell), while juniors Charlo e Sco and Aleisha Pearson look set for some opportuni es, with Alex Hudson, Imogen McGregor and Tully Lindner also training with the topsquad.
