The Glencoe Football Club congratulates Tory Weaver on playing his 150th senior game for the Murphies in today’s Reserves Preliminary Final.

Tory has played 131 A Grade games and is a high flying forward who possesses a long penetrang kick which has seen him take out our A Grade goal kicking award in 2006, 2009, 2010 and 2016. He has already booted a half century this season in the Ressies and is on track to take out the leading goal scorer for us in this grade.

Tory made his A Grade debut in 2004, the same season that he was the Mid South East Senior Colts leading goal kicker. He won the Phil Scanlon Rookie of the Year award in 2006. In 2007 he was part of the A Grade premiership team and also represented the MSE senior interleague side that year. Good luck Tory on your milestone game today

Aer a few years break from the game, Tory got itchy feet and has returned to play in the Reserves and also helping out with a few games in the A’s. He began his junior career with the Murphies in 2002 and quickly established himself as a talented forward taking out the club’s Junior Colts leading goal kicker in that year and the same in Senior Colts in 2004 and 2005.

Dillan Young will play his 100th senior game for the Murphies in today’s Reserves Preliminary Final. He played his first senior game in the Reserves in 2009 and has become a reliable and dour defender Fred had a break from the club for a few years but has returned home which now sees him reaching this major milestone today Congratulaons Fred on your 100th game, everyone at Glencoe wishes you all the best for today and hope that you can celebrate with a win which will mean a berth into the “Big Dance” Dillan has always been known as ‘Fred’ and is one of the most popular players at the Glencoe Football Club. He began playing Junior Colts for the Murphies in 2003 and was a member of the successful Junior Colts premiership team in 2005. Good luck Fred.

Kalangadoo will need Sco Agnew, Chris Mules and Ma Auld to be on fire while Glencoe’s Tory Weaver, Ben Curran and Jed Mahews will also need to have a spring in their step.

GLENCOE v HATHERLEIGH

Such a queson is posed ahead of the penulmate game each season and this fixture has the minor premiers hosng the reigning premiers in a replay of the 2021 grand final.

In the case of Kalangadoo, the X factor player might be its former captain James Pra. He would be willing to take on such an unglamorous role if it means he gets to play in another grand final.

Last month the West Gambier coach was named as the runner-up in the Brian Hennessey Memorial Medal as best and fairest in the Western Border Football League. This will be a good solid game of junior football with both sides wanng another crack in the big dance. The club had trouble for much of winter with the grass coverage on its oval and this forced the transfer of games and new venues for training sessions. He has played back for much of 2022 but was used in aack in the second semi. The 2022 Mid South Eastern Football League finals connue this Saturday in the preliminary final at Kalangadoo with a spot in the decider up for grabs.

In conjuncon with

By J.L. ‘Fred’ Smith (SE Voice) B Grade I predict Pra will be told to mind one of the medal-winning “twin towers”

By Steve Walters (SE Voice)

Both teams have meet twice in the minor home and away season round and the Magpies have the points on each occasion but the form in recent weeks of the Murphies will hold sway. Robe has been the trend seer in the Senior Colts compeon for a long me and a lot of teams envy that because the way they go about it.

While2023.onpredicons,

The team had lost 12 of its 2021 winning grand final team to rerement or other clubs including skipper Daron McElroy

I expect a record gate will be achieved if there are blue skies on Saturday morning. Every finals series turns up a surprise packet and it is somemes a player who gets allocated a new posion.

Expect to see plenty of faces from Casterton Sandford as they voted 97% to join the Mid SE in

Senior Colts Another factor which made life hard for coach Simon Merre and his team was beyond their control and literally in the lap of the gods.

PRELIMINARY FINAL footbALL PREVIEWS

Junior Colts

On the other hand, I rate Demon veteran Zack Williams as one of the best taggers in the Mid South Eastern league.

While the seasiders have a good spread of players as well and could be boosted by some university students that may come back.

With the benefit of a fortnight’s break, the fresh legs of the seasiders could well prove decisive against the shell-shocked Magpies. However, the Eagles were far from spent and stormed home with a blitz which yielded seven unanswered goals. The spell of near-invincibility that had been cast by Kalangadoo throughout the minor rounds was comprehensively broken by the Eagles to the tune of 42 points at Mick and Jean Walker Oval at Mount Burr on Saturday

A Grade KALANGADOO v PORT MACDONNELL

The last word: Port MacDonnell might have the fresh legs and the “twin towers” but they lack a key advantage which will win Kalangadoo a ght contest. In a programming fluke, the Magpies are playing at home.

Between them, Tim Sullivan and Will Macdonald have won five Mail Medals and they were match winners in the first semifinal win over Mount Burr at Robe. The Roosters have the wood over the Hawks but come Saturday it is a new game and anything can happen.

Nevertheless, the Demons know in their hearts the Magpies can be beaten as occurred in the 2021 grand final at Tantanoola Tigerland. I reckon Merre will assign him the job of minding either Patrick Davies or Krieger

The Murphies have had good wins over the Eagles in the two mes they have faced up in the minor rounds. Home ground advantage may help the Magpies, but finals are a different game and if either side can get the score on the board early it will be a game of catch me if you can. Kalangadoo defeated Port MacDonnell by the idencal and big margins of 91 points during their two head-to-head clashes in 2022.

ROBE v KONGORONG

There is such a thing as a senmental favourite in football and that tag can be applied to Port MacDonnell on Saturday for a number of reasons.

The reward for victory on the Kalangadoo Oval is a cket to this very venue a week later for the ‘big dance’ against the hungry and inform Hatherleigh. Can Port MacDonnell take full advantage of the bruised egos and bruised bodies of Kalangadoo in the Mid South Eastern Football League preliminary final on their home deck on Saturday and advance to the grand final?

There should be a big crowd in aendance as the Western Border season has finished and the Millicent Saints footballers are bound to be wearing their premiership sweaters, hoodies and T-shirts.

Robe’s Flynn Peel, Oliver Hagge and Max Roberston will be a key to get over the line come final siren.

KALANGADOO v GLENCOE

Glencoe needs Lachlan Brierley, Kallan Price and Hamish Gordon to be focused and switched on while for Hatherleigh Oskar Howell, Ethan Marshall and Winston Figg are on song. Each side has a disncve style and will need to have that on cue right from the first bounce or it will be a one-sided game.

Kongorong also has some good quality players and have dual Malseed Medallist in Maverick Cooper who will be supported by Will Von Stanke, Mackye Baron and Cohen Janeway

The Demons have won six flags but have never gone back-to-back. The minor premiers had looked set to take the direct route to the 2022 season decider as they led early in the last quarter aer goals to James Pra and dual league goal kicking trophy winner Michael Krieger.

Also, both sides have some experienced players and will look to them to guide and nurture the younger players in pressure cooker situaons.

Edwards were having to work overme early in the third quarter as Egan and Peacock upped the ante and used paence to feed into Duncan and Kori Collins. A few offensive mistakes by Glencoe started to give Kalangadoo a bit more of the ball. Duncan again became Kalangadoo's avenue in the goal circle to bring back Glencoe's lead to 7 mid way through the quarter. Glencoe started to make some unforced errors to give Kalangadoo a sniff. At 3 quarter me Glencoe had an 8 goal lead with Kalangadoo having the honours in the third quarter.

KALANGADOO 44 lost to GLENCOE 54 Glencoe started with the first centre pass in the Second Semi Final against minor premiers Kalangadoo and converted. Kalangadoo responded with the next goal. Glencoe's defence worked overme early with a great intercept form Sarah Edwards to allow Glencoe a mini break. Kalangadoo seemed a bit sluggish mid way through the first quarter Jenna Paproth worked hard in aack and defensively throughout the court. Abbey Duncan was Kalangadoo's focal point in the first quarter despite the immense defensive pressure from S. Edwards. Kalangadoo's WD Sophie Wrightson took a mely intercept from Glencoe's centre pass which brought Kalangadoo back to within 2 goals. Glencoe's goal shooter Malinda Markiewicz was shoong with confidence in all areas of the goal circle S. Edwards connued to wear Duncan like a glove. At quarter me Glencoe held a 3 goal lead Glencoe and Kalangadoo met in the B Grade Second Semi Final last weekend at Mount Burr and both teams came out firing. The score was even for most of the match, with both teams fighng to head straight into the grand final at Kalangadoo in 2 weeks' me. Kylie Schultz and Emily Mulraney for Kalangadoo worked hard to shut down Glencoe's goalies, Madeline Watson and Leanne Leigh. Kalangadoo goalies Gina Gogel and Isobel Giddings shot with accuracy, scoring from turnovers as well as centre passes. Kalangadoo made changes in the second quarter, however they took a while to sele. Kalangadoo led by one goal at half me. Rhianna May from Kalangadoo created space and was able to reset down the aack end to guide the ball into the goal circle. In the third quarter the Magpies began to increase their lead over the Murphies by creang turnovers throughout the court and scoring with ease through Gogel and Giddings. Despite a close game Kalangadoo were victorious when the final whistle blew, and Glencoe will take on Hatherleigh at the preliminary final this weekend.

second semi-final match REVIEWs

A Reserve Best players - Glencoe: Hayley Greenfield, Sally McDonnell; Kalangadoo: Kylie Schultz, Rhianna May A Grade

Great start for both teams, both coming out firing from the first whistle, Madeline Wirth and Lexy Hayes coming up with turnovers early, giving Robe an early lead in the first quarter. Robe took control of the second quarter, due to Port Mac sll fighng for the game. Robe really took control of the game in the third quarter making errors for the Port Mac team. The goalies for both teams were accurate with Port MacDonnell's Mackenzie Millard and Robe's Ella Mackey being focal points for their respecve teams. Both teams were physical making the transion down the court difficult. Robe were the beer team for the day, taking control of the second half of the game, shung Port Mac down Congratulaons to Robe on the win, moving forward to the Grand Final, Port Mac will face off with Mount Burr this week.

Best players - Mount Burr: Faith McKenzie, Bec Fox; Kalangadoo: Narelle Ryan, Sam Mulraney

The game started with Robe coming out firing and Kim Ausn and Hannah Perkins in Robe's defence made sure they took every rebounding opportunity they could. Jamie Ryan and Zoe Rout fed paently and Kalangadoo monopolised on all the opportunies they could to come away with a 4 goal lead going into the second quarter. The second quarter Robe's passing efficiency from Kim Ross and Keelin Winterfield had them winning the quarter by 1. Shanen Pulkkinen and Shanae Neale worked relessly to posion well against Demi Carter and Ella Mackey who shot efficiently all game. The third quarter was ght and took a minute for the Kalangadoo changes to come into effect but calm back up from Rout and Pulkkinen meant the shooters had me to gain their confidence and shoot within range. Kim Ross and Keryn Moore for Robe connued to feed the ball well in the last quarter and quick passing meant that Kalangadoo had to apply as much mid court pressure as they could. Eventually using Estella Serle's accurate shoong and paence from Kalangadoo had them come away with a 6 goal win Best players - Kalangadoo: Jamie Ryan, Lucy Williams; Robe: Ella Mackey, Hannah Perkins.

PORT MACDONNELL 38 lost to ROBE 54

Kalangadoo and Mt Burr met in the 15 & Under Second Semi Final at Mt Burr Kalangadoo started the game strongly with great shoong by Tegan Lythgo and Gabby Varcoe, with Lythgo shoong at 100% in the first half. Georgia Genle and Maya Anderson from Kalangadoo worked hard in the defensive end creang lots of turnovers. Olivia Holland worked hard to curb the influence of Chloe Peacock through the centre. Mt Burr came back with a fight in the second quarter with Abbey Falng and Tilly Gamble working strong in the goal circle, only losing the quarter by one. Macy Burns and Sara Smith worked hard to put the pressure on in the defensive circle to adjust to Kalangadoo's change of shooters but were out rebounded. Kalangadoo finished strong winning 56 25, congratulaons to Kalangadoo for making the grand final. Mt Burr will face Robe in the Preliminary Final this week 13 & Under PORT MACDONNELL 37 lost to KALANGADOO 42 Kalangadoo came out strong right at the start of the game, with Lucy Egan being the focus in their circle, taking the lead at the end of the quarter. Kalangadoo GD Molly Peacock connued to put lots of pressure on Pt Mac goalies. Bailee Lewis played a strong game starng in centre and finishing in goals and shoong with accuracy. Chelsea Fulham for Pt Mac played in defence, turning the ball over many mes for her side. Kalangadoo outscored Pt Mac for 3 quarters, but Pt Mac kept their heads up and outscored Kalangadoo in the last quarter but Kalangadoo came away with the win. 17 & Under Best players - Kalangadoo: Tegan Lythgo, Georgia Genle; Mount Burr: Abbey Falng, Olivia Holland

G44.lencoe opened strongly in the second quarter scoring the first 5 goals with Markiewicz shoong at 100%. Kalangadoo tried to steady but Glencoe's goalies in Paproth and Markiewicz were not giving Kalangadoo's defenders, Lauren Kain and Reanna Wetherall, any opportunies to rebound. Jayde Peacock and Kirsty Egan were not being allowed to dominate through the midcourt and weren't having any impact on the game in the second quarter. Through one of Glencoe's rare misses for goal Kalangadoo were able to peg one back. Glencoe definitely dominated the second quarter to extend their lead to 12 at half me

A Grade: Firstly congratulaons to all three teams booking the first cket to the grand final what a great achievement and day for the club, also good luck this week to our Junior Colts compeng for a spot in the big one. With everything on the line the stage was set for a big first quarter and it didn't disappoint. Kalangadoo put the pressure on us early and to our boys credit we handled it well, Kalangadoo had the edge at quarter me leading by two goals. The next two quarters were a brilliant showcase of country football with momentum swinging both ways and some good hard footy being played we clawed back the lead and extended it going into 3 qtr me by a narrow 10 points. Kalangadoo lied their work rate and kicked the first two goals of the last and put us under some extreme pressure but our boys responded well and ran away with the game to eventually win by 42 points and going straight into the grand final. Mark Marrio led the way in the ruck while Jordy Galpin was tough at the ball as usual, Darcy Bateman was huge at CHF while Jake Wight led the goal kickers with 4, Jed Telfer and Jack Gray were outstanding down back winning their posion plus launching some good aacks from defence. We look forward to a week off and then a massive bale in the grand final in a fortnight's me. Go Eagles! B Grade: Aer a very successful home and away season finishing minor premiers our aenon turned to Kalangadoo in the 2nd Semi-final at Mount Burr. We had a big couple of weeks on the track with the boys training well and itching to play this game. We went into the game knowing we were up for a contest but knew if we did the lile things right the big things would take care of themselves. Aer Bellsy’s warm up speech about fencing and shearing sheep (dunno what that’s got to do with footy) but it got us off to the perfect start. We started well kicking the first 3 goals of the game and not leng the Doo into it. We held them scoreless ll aer half me and really started playing our team first football and opened the game up with a strong running game, coming away with a 71 point win to see us off to the big dance in a fortnight’s me. 40 touches Reid was back to his best running off a half back flank to finish BOG. Second best was Toffy Watson playing a good game across CHB. Third best went out to Lile Sausage collecng plenty of possies all around the ground. Fourth best went to big Reggie in the ruck who baled all day. Young Bowie kept his good form to round the best out! Regional Bell was back in goal kicking form slong 4 along with the skipper’s 3. We look forward to the week off and preparing for a big grand final. Go Eags! Senior Colts: The Senior Colts had a great all round performance against Robe coming away with a hard fought win. It was pleasing to see the group gel all together, sharing the ball and working hard both ways to support one another. Picking best players was a difficult task due to many contributors. However, the team was led by our midfield group, giving us a lot of first possession. Blake Werchon was the standout, collecng masses of disposals and throwing his body at every contest possible. Ethan Leopold had a great day in the ruck, taking good marks around the ground. Tyson Atkinson played a solid game through the middle and impacted the scoreboard with 3 goals. Je Faulkner was again very clean with the ball and laid a huge amount of tackles. Jack Cassidy played a key part in the back lines, stopping his opponent and rebounding it outside of our back half. While Ollie Fitzgerald gave us some great composure across half back, hing targets on his damaging le foot. The group should be very proud of their efforts, but the job isn’t finished yet.

It's the efforts of many of these people, along with our great band of volunteers and sponsors that keep everything cking along at the Club. Thank you to one and all for your Frcontribuons.omthecoach:

Aer what seemed like an eternity between games, it was nice to be back on the park, as we headed to Mt Burr for what was going to be a tough Second Semi Final for the young Hawks, against a strong and upbeat young Murphies side. Both games throughout the year were hard-hing encounters with both teams only having the one loss and that was against each other. We welcomed a full side back into our line-up, although a few sll not quite 100%. Early on it was a lile slippery underfoot but with the Mt Burr oval in perfect condion it didn't take long to dry. Across the ground it looked a relavely even match up and Glencoe made the most of the early running, in what was turning out to be a tough and bruising encounter by both sides once again. Neither side was able to get a run on in the first half, as it was a very defensive game, but Glencoe held a narrow 2 goal lead at half me, although had made all the play early on, but the young Hawks down back working hard managed to hold them. Half me saw a shuffle on the board, with a few changes around the ground and a call to remain calm and just back themselves in. The third quarter then saw the game open up as the young Hawks found their groove and got their natural game going with the remainder of the game saw us play the way we have become accustomed to throughout the year, with plenty of run and link up, to finish strongly in the last quarter. Best players could have gone to every player in the team, as all played their role throughout the game, with many playing one of their best games ever. Having to pick some out was a nightmare and in the end aer a lot of discussion and input was decided and went to Nate Von StankeDowie, Declan Richardson, Rhys Newton, Ryan Lucas, Harrison Elletson and Cohen Galpin. With a couple of weeks off now before the big show of the Grand Final we get to hit the training track and watch with interest the game coming up at Kalangadoo between Glencoe and Hatherleigh, to see who we will be taking on. Looking forward to seeing a big Hawks crowd at training as excitement builds and then at Kalangadoo for the Grand Final.

mount burr club notes

The Junior Colts worked hard and took out the win at Mt Burr last week, to lock in their place in the Grand Final. Well done to all.

B Reserve: Wow girls what a fantasc win, we were behind going into the last quarter, and you all played with such determinaon to come home with the win. Faith and Karen combined well in the circle for the first half of the game. Karen went into WA and gave us a strong opon around the circle. Faith came out and was at her athlec best. Amy came on under lots of pressure, but rose to the occasion and once again combined well with Faith. Our ever reliable defence in Georgia and Bec were under the pump right at the start of the game, but as the game went along, they were taking strong rebounds and their defensive pressure started to created turnovers for us Dawn and Mia on the wing were taking mely intercepons and always an opon bringing the ball down out of defence Hannah and Kelsi had great defensive pressure on the ball and strong passing into our goalies, made me hold my breath at mes, but this is the belief with have in each other. We will learn a lot from this game, only to our advantage, and work hard for the next 2 weeks to come out firing in the Grand Final. Thanks to our mini mozzie Macy for sing bench, Amelia for giving us such support, especially me. A huge thanks to Wayne for scoring once again

This week sees our Senior Colts do bale for a place in the Grand Final, best of luck to Je and the boys.
