football club notes

With a different start to footy as all the games were much later in the day with the Seniors set to start at 6.30. Mt Burr had the oval in great condion to put on a show especially once the lights kicked in late in the Reserve's game.

Thanks goes to our Junior Game Day Sponsors Autocare Mt Gambier, Rarcoola Structural, The Rocks Shop, MT Wheels & 3MP as game day sponsors and weekly award sponsors in – The Roadhouse, Country Atude, Spot On, Bunnings, Aussie Disposals, Sorrentos, OK Pie Shop, KD's Deli, Intersport, Doughnut King, Wendy's, McDonalds, Compton Street Bakers Delight & Boost Juice.

Under 11: In absolutely perfect condions our youngest group of future champions kicked of the day in style in front of a healthy crowd. Some of the older lads swapped teams for the day to even numbers up to ensure was an even contest. Well done to the older lads for looking aer the younger teammates and happy to just be out playing footy This kind of atude is a real testament to these youngsters and credit to them, their families, and the club for developing them with the right atude. A huge thank you to our game day awards sponsors in Wendys, McDonalds, Doughnut King & Compton Street Bakers Delight with the awards going to Vann, Sid, Spence, Knox & William.

Junior Colts: The Junior Colts registered their 1st win for 2024 in style with a real team effort and 4 quarters of quality footy. The young maggies jumped out of blocks early creang plenty of run out of the middle and having most of the play throughout the 1st qtr and while holding the Burr scoreless managed a couple of our own to be 15 points up at the 1st break. The second was a repeat although couldn't quite get the reward on the scoreboard the defensive effort was there and at the half Maggies had held them scoreless while holding a 23-point margin at the main break. The second half saw the Burr boys kick a couple of goals while our young maggies connued their good work around the ground and geng rewarded for their effort kicking a further 5 goals to record a 41-point victory. May just need a few people in the change rooms aer games to help the boys sing the song! Best players went to Jack Barry – Spot On, Lachlan McCann – Bunnings, Frank Mules – OK Pie Shop, Max Mulligan –Bakers Delight & Ashley Grosvenor –Coaches Award.

Senior Colts: Another tough day for our Senior Colts coming up against a very strong Mt Burr ouit. Thanks to the 4 Tant lads who came across and to Deany and the Burr boys who came across to make sure we had a game. As a club we need to get around the few colts we

have to show support as much as we can. Best players went to Jack Barry –Ash Faulds – Country Atude, Axe – KD's Deli, Nato – OK Pie Shop, Chance Mitchell – Aussie Disposals.

Reserves: In what was a sluggish start for the B's the Burr jumped out of the blocks in the 1st kicking the first few goals and with a late one in the quarter we managed to only be down by 13 points at qtr me. We managed to get the back on our terms somewhat over the next 3 quarters with some hard running and compeve work in the midfield by Reevsey and Chrissy to stem the de and Mitch Varcoe providing a strong focal point up forward we managed to hold the Burr goalless for the remaining 3 quarters while kicking 9 goals ourselves to record a quality 40-point win. Best players went to Kye, Revsey, Harry, Varcs, Gully with 5 majors and TJ.

Seniors: In a much later start under lights at the Burr as always it was going to be a bale between the 2 sides as over the years there has been some classic encounters. Early on the pressure was there from the maggies winning plenty of the contested ball and providing opportunies for the forwards but for some inaccurate kicking the boys could have had a decent lead at quarter me except for the 5 point margin. In the second both teams never wanted to give an inch with the tackle pressure from both teams there to see and scores with at a premium and both defenses were having to work hard but with 2 goals to 1 for the quarter we held a 8 point lead at the half. Neither team in the 3rd could get a break away with the defences of both sides holding strong and midfields working though the ground the forwards found the going tough in what was proving a dour, tough contest and pung on a quality show for the large crowd. ¾ me saw the game evenly poised with the Burr holding a very slender 1-point lead and the game there for the taking. The final qtr saw the maggies hit the ground running to begin the quarter and geng out to an 8-point lead early on and look to have control of the game but some reless work by the Burr saw them finish the game off with some long shots at goal that went through and the Maggies going down in a real tough one by 8 points. Best players went to Toota, Kriegs, Weap, Connor, Smack & Wally Fatchen.

In what is going to be another tough one for the Maggies we welcome Hatherleigh in what is our 1st home game for the year in the grand final rematch so is set to be another epic encounter

For all the young families, it's movie night for the kids aer teas so a great chance to hang around the club for teas and presentaons.

A Grade: First quarter Kongorong come out firing with high pressure from the get go. This didn’t let us get our game going the way we would have liked. The second half of the game Sam Waring gave us first opon in the midfield with the likes of Mikey, Jed and Brad geng the ball moving into our forward line. This gave us plenty of scoring opportunies which led to our 92 point win. First best on Saturday went to Mitch Pulmer who has carried his form in from last week and was good seeing Paddy Chay and Jed Telfer kicking 5 goals each. Well done boys, let’s go out firing this week against Kalangadoo.

another great performance enrely out of the midfield. 1st best, Denton SportsPower award went to Riley Prouse, dominang the forward line in the sky and on the ground. Real proud of the lads and we will go again this week!

B Grade: Nice to be back home for round 2 against Kongorong who came in a bit undermanned but sll put up a great fight. We probably didn't give their young blokes the respect they deserve, we addressed this at quarter me and got things going our way fairly quickly playing a good team brand of football following on from last week's performance finishing with a solid win. Tom Bell kicked 8 to be named BOG. Jimmy Telford second. Sid Reeves had an excellent game in the ruck. Sam Gray made his football come back geng plenty of the cod around the ground. Bollard Rayson rounded out the best. Another challenge coming up against Kalangadoo this week.

Senior Colts: First game back on the home deck with perfect weather the lads came out on top. Played a great team game and aer a good week on the track and discussions about last week’s mishaps I'm really happy with how they went. Best players - 5th best the Pete Walter's award went to Jordy Atkinson with a great game mostly out of the middle. 4th best the Ladies commiee award went to Isaac Chambers due to the presence he brought to the forward line. 3rd best the Ginos Pizza Award went to Hudson Nowak with another top er game in the backline stopping countless goals. 2nd best the Stumpy award went to captain Aussie Nele with

Junior Colts: Our first home game was met with perfect weather & perfect condions for football. Despite losing a few players with school holidays and injury, the team make the most of the good condions to have another strong win over the Hawks. They moved the ball well by hand and foot. Pleasingly they also set up well across the field and applied some great tackling pressure. Will Dower started in the ruck for the first me which allowed him to run free, geng hold of plenty of footy and using it well. Billy Bowering got his long awaited turn up forward where he competed well and hit the scoreboard. Balin Thomas got the opportunity to play on the ball where he picked up plenty of touches. Henry Bowering was clean and classy around the stoppages, driving the ball forward. Finally Tommy Atkinson posioned himself well across the centre, applied great tackling pressure and got plenty of kicks along the way. Well done to the boys on a good win but also it was good to see some of the younger guys get a go in different posions where they did well. We look forward to coming up against Fig's rebuilding plan, out at Kalangadoo this week.

Under 11: Last week we played our first home game against Kongorong. We had perfect weather to use our skills. The big oval allowed for lots of space which the kids ulised well. The team worked well together leading up for the ball. There was lots of good team footy. The best players were Van Chambers (Denton's Sportspower), Joel Skeer (Millicent Toy Kingdom), Leni HainesShepards (Hatherleigh Ladies Commiee), and Colton Redman (Sco Redman Award).

Last week we faced a very talented and fit Hatherleigh side. It wasn’t an overly successful day for us on the scoreboard but many posives to take from the day. Many thanks to all of the young senior colts that helped out in the senior grades.

Under 11: We came up against a very strong Hatherleigh side. To their credit, they didn’t drop their heads and played the full game out. Thank you to the umpire and the Hatherleigh coach for trying to even out the game for the development of the kids. Awards: Ted Ellis (Intersport), Huey Harding (Coaches Award), Toby Telford (Presidents Award), Judd Buntsma (Brant Family Award), Jack McKenzie (Club Award) and Mason Lile (Donut King).

Junior Colts: The kid's played well against a tough opponent on Saturday. I was very proud of their efforts and never give up atude that can only make this team stronger and beer each week. Also like to thank all the volunteers that help out each week. Awards went to Havvi Beard, Angus Maidment, Noah vonStanke-Dowie, Connor Gordon, Zach Paech and Cohn Brant.

Senior Colts: Round 2 saw us take on Hatherleigh away on what was a perfect day for football. The perfect condions allowed for both teams to showcase some good scoring chains with both groups going goal for goal for the best part of three quarters. Toward the end of the third quarter Hatherleigh began to assert themselves with some good field posion, forcing us to play out of our back half. Our defenders and mids dug deep to block things up and rebound as best they could but we lacked connecon with our forwards and had to weather a storm of inside 50 entries. The three quarter me siren came and brought a short reprieve for the defenders who had been under fire. With the warmer condions and no bench to rotate players for the majority of the game, I urged the group to dig deep and give their all for the final quarter. Unfortunately, fague had set in and we lost our spark around the contest. We began bombing the ball forward more as we struggled to run

and carry the ball, and our opponents were very good at launching their aack off our turnovers. In the end Hatherleigh were able to run away with a 27 point win despite the evenness of the contest for the most part of the day Values award winners: Jobe Janeway, Ryan Taylor, Bam Kent, Jai Hillstone, Ryan Lucas, Kain Ashby

B Grade: Never has a result not maered as much as last week’s game. With a perfect storm of unavailability striking the ressies, we needed to call on 6 senior colts to come in and help us out. It was a proud day for the club as they all were magnificent in their efforts. Credit also to our senior players for supporng them and leading with a great example. Successful clubs are built on what happened in this game and we need to connue to develop our young players and set them up to be not only great players but great members of our community. Thanks also to the Hatherleigh boys for playing the game in great spirit, our lads learned a lot about the standard it takes to be a great team. Always special when families get to play a game together and congratulaons to Ma and Ryan Lucas on taking the field together and both playing significant roles for the team. Well done to Ryan, Jobe, Drew, Harrison, Kain and Toby, we look forward to seeing you become stars of the club. Our best players went to Marty Von Stanke, Michael Waters, Shakielle Von Stanke, Paul Ellis and Andrew Telford. Big thanks to award sponsors, Commercial Hotel, Collins Court Butchers, Pick Ave Deli and the football club.

A Grade: We had a good first 3 quarters on the weekend defending really well and starng to get a bit of the ball. Our small kicks really let us down resulng in turnovers. Our last quarter the boys really relaxed on it too much. Hopefully we can play 4 solid quarters against robe and see where that can take us. Some promising signs from Sjaakie, Will von Stanke and Lukey Mac, starng to find their feet. Tyrone Rayner was exceponal down back with Tom Hunter and Will Vickery. Charlie and Elliot in and under at it all day in the mids held their own quite well. Awards went to Tyrone Rayner (Collins Court Butcher), Luke McIntrye (Commercial Hotel), Brandon Kranz (Club Voucher), Elliot Modra (Club Voucher), Joel Maconachie (Pick Ave Deli) and Riley Maconachie (Commercial Hotel).

We have a fun night ahead with our Hawktoberfest event. Thanks to all that put in the work to organise it, it’s very much appreciated. This week we take on Robe at home. Carn’ the Hawks!

Junior Colts: Another 'ght' game. The score line for both teams does not reflect the intensity and endeavour of all players. Both teams are to be congratulated on this. Some of the skills displayed were impressive. For us, the damage was done in the first half, coming in 17 points down at the long break. To our guys credit, they stuck to the task and won the second half by a small margin: but not enough to bridge the gap. What do the young roosters take out of the last two games? Well, we know that we are around the mark, and with more intensity, persistence and effort in every contest (when you think you have nothing le to give), will result in good things. Believe in yourselves, it is amazing what confidence can do! With a focussed week on the track, and turning up to play with a posive atude, a willingness to do the 'team things' and just give every contest 'a red hot go', there is no reason why we can't record our first win of the season. Basically, just have a crack! Players that were considered to be our top performers were: Daniel Hayes (plays well above his height and weight), Dylan Thomas (Mr Versale), Nate Allen (an absolute ripper), Jacob 'Boodah' Parker (a heart and soul man), and Byron Carter (a consistent performer regardless of the aenon he is given). Fac fora et patere!

Senior Colts: With great condions we looked forward to our first home game against Glencoe. With a good first 5 minutes it looked like it was

going to be a close game but from then it was all Glencoe who took control of the game but to our boys credit they fought out the game to the end which was good to see. Best for the day went to John, Myles, Blake, Kaiden and Taj. Thanks also to the Glencoe boys who had a run for us.

Leroy

A Grade: Solid win by the Roosters against the Murphies on Saturday. Prey even tussle through the first quarter, we just didn’t consolidate on our forward entries and we’re making a few skill errors. We made the most of the slight breeze in the second to kick five goals to 2. Was prey even through the midfield, but our forwards and backs were starng to get on top. We ran the last half out well especially the last quarter. We can sll improve across-the-board and will be beer for the run. Could’ve kicked a bit straighter, but all in all it was a good first home game win. Joel Bryant was fantasc at half forward kicking 4 majors, George D played his normally consistent hard running game, Tyler T and Zac were great down back as was Egan on the wing and Bates through the forward/midfield.

It is always nice to head to our friends Port Mac earlier in the season when the weather is nice, and last Saturday was a great day for the Saints to kick start their season campaign with the sun shining. football club notes

Our first funcon is this Saturday and will kick off at 8pm Shuffle Night re-vamped. I hope to see a real mix of netball and football players present and mingling together. It is what season 2024 is aboutone club, one direcon.

Memberships are due and can be paid to Benny at the bar. This year we receive a fridge magnet and scker as well as entry into Friday night's member's draws. What a great way to show your support!

This week we would like to acknowledge two major sponsors, The Pines Hotel and Timberlink Tarpeena.

We love to have a beer with Crammy and so should all Nangwarry players and supporters. The Pines Hotel has been a long me sponsor of our great club, it's the best local in our area a place where many go as a guest but leave as a friend. So on the way home from training call in for a cold drink, or grab a meal and show Crammy that we appreciate his generous support this season and beyond.

Timberlink operates two regional large scale mber manufacturing facilies, one in Bell Bay, Tasmania, and the other in our neighbouring mber town Tarpeena, South Australia; with both sites solely processing plantaon grown Radiata Pine sawlogs. Their mber products are primarily used in commercial and residenal construcon and industrial remanufacturing applicaons. Typical uses include house framing, pergolas, decks, landscaping, pallets and through use of our residue streams in packaging and paper. We would like to thank Timberlink for jumping on board this season and we look forward to a growing partnership.

Young Sainters: The keenness on their lile faces said it all Saturday, there is something about how excited they were that set the scene for a great day. With the help of Port Mac we put 2 teams of under 11's on the field and helped them learn our great game. They listened eagerly, kicked with enthusiasm and had a great hit out. Smasher showing promising signs of a great footballer and Blake took a few good marks.

Junior Colts: We travelled to Pt Mac to get our season underway and was beauful day for footy. Our first quarter we started a bit slow but aer a quarter me reset and a rev up the kids responded well and ramped things up for the second quarter and started playing the way we have trained in the preseason. We went on to own the footy in our forward half for I’d say 90% of the 3rd quarter we just weren't able to capitalise with some majors on the board. Overall it was a good start to the season and great footy to

watch.

Senior Colts: A great first up effort to push a strong Pt Mac team all the way and the players were really disappointed to go down by 3 points in a very physical game. Playing without a number of key players there were great efforts all over the ground. Oliver Capewell in his first game at full back and Rhys Grigg in the middle were huge. Archer Virtanen, Bay McKinnon and Harry Hicks all played a solid 4 quarters. Next up is a massive task against expected top team Mt Burr

B Grade: Tough day for the boys, we all had a crack and gave a 100 percent, going in the game we knew it was going to be a tough ask with the players we had available but credit to everyone who helped out and played. Moving onto this week we should hopefully have a few players come back onto the team and we can hopefully get our first win for the season.

A Grade: Aer having a big preseason with the introducon of new players, new systems, training camps, trial games and the bye in round 1 it was nice to run out officially for our season opener. Again Port MacDonnell layed on the perfect weather for football. The first quarter was exactly the start we wanted hing the scoreboard early with good clean passages of play with us only surrendering the lead late in the quarter to be down 4 points at the first break. To the Demons’ credit they grabbed the ascendancy in the second term and although we were sll in the game half me came at a good me giving us the chance to regroup and reset. The boys responded well and played a great 3rd quarter with both sides providing an entertaining contest for the spectators allowing us to go into the break right in the contest. Port MacDonnell’s crisp ball movement and experience in the final term secured them the win. We took plenty away from the contest. Our new recruits seled in well and will be beer for the run. We connue to invest and transion our U17's into senior level football. We congratulate Harry Hicks on playing his first senior game and what he showed throughout the game he has a great football future ahead of him. It was also very pleasing to see how far the development has come with the colts that got their first taste of senior football last year. Shout out goes to our best players with Scoe Brooksby pung in a solid 4 quarter effort, birthday boy Joel Virtanen who has had a great preseason, Andy Hyland, boong an entertaining 7 goals, George McWaters and his reless ruck work, Logan Gibbs connues his solid form from last year and Isaac Raymond providing plenty of dash throughout the game. This week we take on Mt Burr for our first home game of the season in front of our supporters and we are looking forward to the contest.

Some shout-outs to those that put in double digit hours for a huge day: Jay and Sue in the canteen with all food selling out, Peter Muhovics for cung the wood for the raffle and deep frying every potato in the South East, the BBQ squad of Gards, Peter, Dale, Robyn, Tony, and Bri, also just about selling out of all the meat. Hendo and Trev, who baled through on a massive aernoon and evening on Can Hill. Jusn for playing supporng roles on the gate, canteen, BBQ, Can Hill and plumber. Michael Wallis for donang the wood for the gate raffle, Horse and Hennink for bringing the light towers from the Mount, Chris for helping behind the bar in the evening, and David Wallis for umpiring the Ressies at short noce. Also Tom Egan, who even as a vising supporter gave up his me to help us with a plumbing issue (thanks legend!). A very special menon to Sco, Nick, and the crew from Lonergan and Muhovics for sorng out our last-minute lighng and power needs to ensure uninterrupted visibility and enjoyment for the eveningif you want the best job, you go to the best! I would also like to thank Dale, Craig and Horry - our Sunday clean up crew, for geng our grounds clean and dy again aer every home game!

From the lile bit of footy I did see during the day I was really happy that the junior colts had good numbers with seven girls having a game aer playing netball earlier in the day, the senior colts sharing around our players with a depleted Kalangadoo team to make an even contest in the second half, some improvement on the Ressies' game play from last week to put on a beer show against a quality ouit, and the A Grade slogging it out in a fast, hard, low-scoring game that was sll in the balance with 60 seconds to go. It was a great way to finish off the football for the evening which saw Mount Burr retain the Harry Bo Memorial Shield. Thanks to Christy and Jason Wallace for providing some live music entertainment to the goodsized crowd that stuck around unl the end, and thanks to Teags, Mel, Horse, Dale and Horry for helping me with the final cleanup before home me. It was a massive day but very much worth it, and if I have missed anybody I'm sincerely sorry but very appreciave for your me and effort to make a big day and night

Junior Colts: The junior colts had a brilliant start to this night game. They came out the gates flying but couldn't hold pace with a really strong Kdoo side. Our standout players were mostly our young first year players. They played with courage against a taller opposion. Thank you to the Under 13 & 15 girls and Kalangadoo players who came across to make it a full 18 v 18. And thank you for all the supporters that came out early to watch us play in the aernoon game.

Senior Colts: Senior colts had their second win for the season against a undermanned Kalangadoo with all of our players contribung across the day. Big shout out to our boys that played half a game for Kalangadoo + the Tant boys to ensure we got a game in. Next couple of weeks will be challenging for us against Nangwarry then Port Mac before the bye.

B Grade: Aer a disappoinng R1 performance, a big crowd was out at the night game and we needed to deliver a beer effort against the reigning premiers. And in the first quarter we certainly did that. Through Rhys Gamble, Ed Ballantyne and Brad Sco, we were winning the midfield and giving our forwards plenty of supply and the 3 goal to 1 margin was a great reward for our efforts. Unfortunately aer quarter me, Kalangadoo lied and we didn’t score a major for the rest of the game. Our defence stood up really well and we were able to make it tough for Kalangadoo to score goals unl the last quarter, where our lack of a pre season kicked in again and we were soundly beaten. The boys wore black armbands for former president Wayne Fennell and they did his memory proud with their aack on the football and genuine effort. Apart from our midfielders, other players to have strong games were Myles Widdison in a back pocket and Noah Telfer, who rucked relessly for 4 quarters. We look forward to improving again as a side when we take on Nangwarry this week.

A Grade: What great condions it was for a night game and how good did the oval look all lit up. With a great crowd up on the hill it would’ve been an excing game to watch. It was an arm wrestle in the first half with both teams being solid in the back half. We showed some great patches of play with being able to move the ball from end to end. We let ourselves down going into the forward 50 with some poor decision-making. Credit to K’doo’s defenders as they made it hard for us. The second half opened up a bit which allowed both teams to be a bit more free-flowing. It was really great to see the maturity from our group to fight it out unl the end. A great game of football under lights.

Robe turned on the weather for us with a beauful day by seaside. A mixed bag of results in the footy and two draws in the netball made for great viewing.

Under 11: The young Murphies travelled down to Robe for an early start with a large crowd of parents and siblings watching, the game was played in great spirit and a few nice goals kicked!

senior colts

junior colts

Junior Colts: A week can be a big me in football and for our young Murphies. The Murphies bounced back aer last week, the inclusion of Hamish Gordon who got close to breaking Nathan Bocks record of 20 running bounces in one game! It was a close game with everyone geng involved, Harley kicking two beauful goals and Mason, Hunter and Hamish also slong one. A great team effort, playing 16-a-side on the Robe oval meant the kids spent every fuel cket they had, exhausted, relieved and excitement on all their faces at the end of the game. Winning by 15 points. Best for the day was our running machine Hamish, credit to Hamish for involving everyone into the game and running his guts out, a true captain’s game, next was his sister Annabelle who taught some of the boys a lesson! Aer that was Jack McGrath, Harley Dale, Lachlan Haase and Max Jantosh.

Senior Colts: Our young guns came into the game with intent with a large squad of 25 kids, we hit the ground with one of the best quarters of junior footy slong eight unanswered goals. The team work displayed was a real credit to them, involving everyone. Will swapped players here and there ensuring all players are playing different posions and learning different roles along the way. A big win, pleasing of the 18 goals for the day we had 13 goal kickers. Best for the day was Maxy Whitehead who is in some hot form at the moment, next was Kade Mulraney showing plenty of run and dash, Jed Sinkunas who is also running hot and clean as, aer that was skipper Kallan Price, Sam Haase, and Dan

Reserves: The Reserves ventured to Robe full of confidence aer last albeit with a few away. Missing coach Pie and a couple of other experienced campaigners was always going to make it difficult. We can't knock the intent and endeavour of this group we just need a bit more polish and composure to use the more effecvely. Robe took control of the game with a very strong Reserves team they played some very disciplined football, something to emulate this week fellas.

Seniors: First of all we would like to congratulate two debutants to the Senior side. New recruit Connor Fielding suing up in the Maroon and Gold. Connor has been a great addion to our group over the summer, he has done all the work in preseason and we look forward to watching Connor develop into quick footed senior player for us. Another young fellow Kallan Price who was presented his guernsey from his old man and he couldn't wipe the smile off his face! Kallan has had a very solid two years training and with both juniors and then onto senior's week-in week-out. We headed down to Robe with the intent to win our first game of the season. We started the first term going goal for goal with Robe, during the second term Robe wrestled the momentum their way and at the half me break were 26 points up. Reece seeked a response and the boys came out in the third term slong a few quick ones. Aer this Robe ran away with some silky skills proving too good for our boys going down by 53 points. Best players for us were Brodie Glynn, Declan Hurley, Ma Cordy, and first gamers Connor Fielding and Kallan Price. Onto this week for our A Grade as we try to get our first win for the season.

This week we welcome Tantanoola over Mile Hill for hopefully a cracking day of Football. We also welcome all our sponsors to Sponsor Day, please see Jenny Maloney on arrival.

Simmo had the beer of the ruck bale and Jake roamed the forward line and had a good all-round game. Keep geng on the track and work on our fitness which we could see late in the game we were ring. Great first up game lads look forward to Glencoe aer the bye.

junior

Junior Colts: First game of the year under new coaches Marc Roberts and Jordan Ha, going up against what was an even Robe side with both sides bringing 4 under 11's up. The boys definitely showed what we've been trying to teach them with linking up handballs and looking to move the ball into the middle of the ground. Their defensive pressure was probably the best it's been, they were tackling well and trusng their teammates to win the ball, in the forward line we showed the same energy and were able to keep the ball inside our 50. It was a hard bale between both sides with both teams going goal for goal. Going into the last quarter it was 43-51 with Robe being up. But with some great ball movement the boys we able to kick 3 goals to Robes 1 to win by just 7 points. With Jayden Hunter kicking 4, Kobe Bromley kicking 3, Marcus Forrest kicking his first goals ever and finished with 2 and Harley Chapple with 1 goal. Best players were Jayden Hunter, Charlie Bromley, Kobe Bromley, Jedd Hardingham, Kaiden Shawyer and Harley Chapple.

Senior Colts: What a rip snorter of a day for our first game of 2024. We welcomed new players Chance, Marshall and Curs into our side. The boys were up and about early making the most of our centre clearances with Longy and Jake leading and presenng well up forward. The backline also was holding up strong and making good decisions. We got out to a 4-5 goal lead which we held for the majority of

Reserves: The B Grade had a hard start to the season coming up against a good Robe side. At mes we linked up well through the middle of the ground and got some good looks going into our forward line but was too far in between. Our backline baled hard to restrict the score but the ball was coming in too clean and too oen. We definitely have some work to do.

Minky kicked 2 and Lachy Broome kicked 1. Best was Ma Nelson, Tom Winkley, Brad Scanlon, Aaron Trowbridge and Hamish Thomson.

A Grade: First game of the year we faced a very tough opponent who has a lot to prove aer last year. We have had a very good pre-season with great numbers and are very excited to be back playing and showing our supporters the improvement that has been made aer the last 3 months. Both sides went goal for goal in the first half, just a few skills error's and sll new to our game plan caused a few silly turn overs which gave Robe a slight lead. The 2nd half we started well matching it again with one of the tops sides but unfortunately we just ran out of legs which let Robe kick a few quick goals in the last 10 minutes. Super effort from the boys good start to the year we had a lot of great feedback from all the supporters on our improvement just need to put the work in now to play 4 solid quarters. Best players in no order: James Braun, James MacDonald, Braydn Reilly, Brandon Pis, Ethan Bowman and Jordan Ha

NETball club notes

A Grade: Kdoo 54 v 30 Mt Burr. Week 2 and yet again our defenders didn’t miss a beat. Eb shot the lights out once again and our veteran sll had her rest for the newer model to take the court. Lauren and Jayde worked relessly creang many turnovers in defence and creang opportunies for Georgia and Lara. Our second phase aack work at training paid off with Janeo able to create a seamless transion into Eb. We look forward to this week to connue building on an already solid start. Best players Lara Munro (Globe), Jane Auld (Kirralee Makeup).

A Reserve: 23-61. Fantasc result again girls. The way we connue to develop our game and gel as a team is really good to watch. Sophie and Anthea again worked overme having the paence to feed it into the goalies. The veteran goalie showed us even on one leg she’s sll got it (must have been the socks). Defensively good solid unit. Shanae had a nice lile run working hard every minute of the game. Shout out to Shayden who come on to the court and sloed in wherever she was needed. It’s such an excing thing to watch when we can get our juniors on and they prove they can hold their own. Thank you to Lucy, Maya and Ellie for sing on our bench. Let’s regroup and come out firing this week. Best players: Shanae Neale (Melzars and Sophie Wrightson (Kirralee Jade Makeup).

B Grade: Kdoo 48-26 Mt Burr. An excellent win girls against a skilled Mount Burr team. There was some great ball movement down the court from defence to our goalies. We worked hard to put the pressure on when coming out of the opposing teams defence and this paid off with many turnovers being created. Excellent efforts from Sam and Jamie who worked hard defensively and in the aack earning themselves best players. A few things to work on. But very proud of how we are working together as a team. Best players: Samantha Mulraney (Gambier City Pharmacy), Jamie Ryan (Café Melzars).

B Reserve: Girls came out firing with a 5 goal run to start the game and connued to build over the four quarters. The defensive pressure all down the court created many turnovers with the goalies converng with ease. We made use of our versality and tried a few new combinaons and posions. Overall a great game to watch. Best players: Nic Reeves (Army RSL Award), Gemma Box (Globe).

17 & Under: Great game girls! Every game is going to be a challenge and we need to keep pushing to get beer and beer. Our aack line had a number of changes and adjusted quickly and scored well. Shayden (Intersport) worked overme with accurate shoong. Well done Lucy for coming on and doing a great job combining with Shayden. Chloe again showed her versality playing in

circle D and mid court and Georgia earned herself the Kiralee Jade Makeup award with playing an incredible game at both ends! I love that you girls are listening well and working together no maer what changes are made and doing your best for the team. Keep it up! Intersport - Shayden Russell, Kiralee Jade - Georgia Genle.

15 & Under: Mt Burr 25 - Kdoo 55. A great team game from all 7 players. We limited our errors and converted accurately. Molly and Zoe were great again in defence and are working well together. Ava had another strong game through the centre and fed beaufully. Lexie connues to impress at WA taking some tough passes and making good posion. Pleasing to see Ella’s efforts for the whole game which made a difference in defence. Lucy played a strong game and shot very accurately providing good leadership on court. Well done team. Thanks to Malda, Ash and Tekani for sing bench. Best player: Molly Peacock (OK Pie Shop), Zoe Wurst (Boost Juice).

13 & Under: In warm condions all the girls had to adjust and slow down. We tried a couple of changes during our game but sll need to come forward to receive and open up play. Malda played an awesome game cung and driving well during the whole game to receive best player Aloha Espresso award and Emily Simon worked extremely hard in goal GK received OK Pie Shop award. Let’s regroup and work hard this week girls.

Junior 1: Was a lile bit of a slower start but once we found our feet we were off and firing. Our defence line working hard and even when our opponents were taller than us, we found the ability to jump and get as many deflecons as we could. Mackenna and Olivia working hard in the circle defence with many turnovers creang more opportunies for our mid court to run through and blitz it down to our shooters. Aurora and Alyssa not only worked hard shoong but also got some turnovers of their own to create more opportunies for goals. The mid court girls Zali, Adele, Grace and Heidi worked well together to create a smooth transion. Willow worked well in the aack line for first half of the game. Thank you to Grace, Heidi and Willow who stepped up and played amazing. Awards: Boost Juice - Alyssa, OK Pie Shop - Mackenna.

Junior 2: Fantasc effort Mini Magpies against Mt Burr. It was great to see everyone working hard to meet the ball. Junior 2: Great condions saw the J2s step up and move the ball quickly down the court. We played ght defence and lots of hands over the ball, which caused plenty of turnovers. We combined well in the goal circle, by using our midcourters and also passing it between goalies to get closer to the ring which saw us shoot with accuracy It was posive to see us creang more space for each other, which meant we also used some longer passing opons. Awards: Corner Clip – Hayley Bowman, Sportspower – Indi Haines.

Junior 1: On Saturday the girls come up against a strong Kongorong team, they worked hard on defence, we just need to work on balancing up and being steady with the ball. It was a great effort on some much taller girls, we got our hands to many balls and backed each other whole game. Awards: Kate Uola – Corner Clip, Emily Freebairn – Hatherleigh Ladies Commiee.

13 & Under: Hatherleigh 72 defeated Kongorong 3. Wow 13s! What a game. Remarkable! Your determinaon and respect for each other really shows what liing each other up, having the confidence to chase down every single ball and being responsible for our own player can do. Great shoong and movement from Liv and Mollie. Hazel your creave drives through the centre and adjusng into goals with lile warning or training showed just how capable you are. Arabella your drives and confidence was on point with some amazing dodging and vision into space. Alirah coming on you pushed the game up a notch keeping the intensity up even with a large lead. Leyla, Kaia, Chloe and Paige, keeping the opposion to just 3 goals for the game showed just how incredible your defence was. Amazing vision of the ball and stopping it before it even got in the circle. Well done each and every one of you. You should all be so proud. Thank you to Kasey for scoring, Helen for PC and Alan for ming. Awards: Arabella Hassell – Hatherleigh Ladies Commiee, Mollie O’Connor - Corner Clip Hairdresser

15 & Under: Hatherleigh 28 defeated by Kongorong 54. Kongorong caught us off guard in first quarter, scoring freely and controlling the ball through the centre. We had to quickly adjust our game which saw our centre court players blocking their opponents drive and our defences having to modify their posion. With increased paence in the second half we had some excellent passages of play into aack, goalies combining well and our midcourt feeding confidently from the circle edge. Although unable to get back within reach of the game, we kept chasing and running, even when put into new posions. Awards went to Tilly Prouse for her speed and drive, and Sienna Clark for great movement and shoong in goals. Awards: Tilly Prouse – Corner Clip, Sienna Clark –Hatherleigh Ladies Commiee.

17 & Under: Hatherleigh 101 defeated Kongorong 10. Great game girls! Everyone just got out there and did their bit, huge defensive pressure all over the caught and slick transion into aack. Goalies shot beaufully and worked hard pung what we worked on at training into play, defences swooped on any loose balls and our mid court ran hard and rarely wasted a ball. To Kongorong's credit they didn’t give up and the game was played in good spirit. Thanks Kelly for scoring, Sam for ming and Kelsey P/C. Awards: Kalli Nele –Hatherleigh Ladies Commiee, Deni Brown – Corner Clip.

B Reserve: Hatherleigh 30 defeated Kongorong 28. We welcomed Amy back into her first game for the season who went into WA driving and feeding well into the circle. We made it hard work to get the

win, adjusng when needed. Our defence line in the first half worked hard with Fiona and Ellen geng their hands on many balls. Demi in WD kept her player on her toes. Our second half with a few changes Maddie worked hard shung down her player in WD. Our 3rd quarter started off really well, aack line worked together and Keely and Nic feeding the ball into Grace and Melita. Defence connued to get the rebounds. Great work all over the court with a warm day. Let’s connue to train, fine tuning our game each week. Thank you to Linda for primary carer and Sara for scoring. Thanks to Kelly for ming.

Awards: Ellen Clarke - Since 56, Grace Chay – Hatherleigh Ladies Commiee.

B Grade: Hatherleigh 70 defeated Kongorong 25. It was a cracking day out at Hatherleigh which made for warm playing condions. Running a slightly different line-up this week, we had Eliza Burton filling in for A grade and Georgia Gray coming up from B res. In the defence for the first half, Maddie and Sarah teamed up nicely geng hands on plenty of balls and making numerous turnovers. The flow through the mid court with Kaz and Ali transioned smoothly and at ease, with Kaz playing a boomer game in centre with Ali’s perfect ming of play. With no changes in the mid and goal end for the day, this allowed us a constant and seled game. Goalies Ellie and Liv shoong a great 70 goals between them auned well together in the goal circle. With Liv being double teamed, her holds and height sll dominated with Ellie’s beauful movement in the circle converng the hard work of our defence into goals. Halime brought Marnie into the defence line-up connuing the strong defensive pressure that applied all game. With each combo of Marnie, Maddie, Sarah and Georgia, the girls stepped the pressure up even more going into the last quarter minimising our opponent’s score. A fantasc game played by all, with a team showing to have seled quickly already into the season. Big thank you to Nat for being team manager with Dizey away as well as PC. Scarle for ming, Raels for scoring and Paris for stepping up to umpire for Kongorong due to an injury earlier in the day. Awards: Olivia Slaery – Sport and Rec, Ellie Cook –Since 56, Ali McClelland – Sassy Award.

A Reserve: Hatherleigh 44 defeated Kongorong 19. The girls took a bit to sele in but once they did, we had some great passages of play, great defensive pressure. Defence took some great intercepts, but we need to work on ulising these intercepts and turning them into goals. We made a few changes, but it didn't seem to affect the girls play, they seled in great! Great team effort to all, your second efforts paid off. Rosie Nele’s pressure and speed down the court was unstoppable. Sarah, Maddie and Millie applied great defensive pressure in and out of the circle, also being that second opon down the court coming out of defence. Goalies took a bit to sele in, but once they found their groove, their ming and movement was great. Great job girls! Awards: Sarah Broadhead - Sport and Rec Voucher, Lucy Corman – Since 56.

A Grade: Hatherleigh 57 defeated Kongorong 36. A slow and not ideal start to the game, however to your credit you worked hard to recover and get back into the game. Players consistently applied ght defensive pressure and the second efforts created plenty of turnovers. We need to focus on reducing errors; by being paent and looking for the right opportunies when they open up. Thank you for stepping up Eliza and having a crack. Awards: Beachport Brewery - Demi Vanderhorst, Beachport Brewery - Erin Watson, Since 56 - Bree Harris, Hath Sport and Rec - Chelsea Owen.

Junior 2: Great game girls. I can already see so much improvement from our first game. I am so proud of everyone who works on the 1 thing I ask of them through the game. Lenny got her rebounds, Bailey was out for every centre pass and Maya took brilliant intercepts all down the court. Everyone did fantasc. The one thing we need to connue to work on is our desire and want for that loose ball! With growth like this each week we will be superstars in no me. Keep having fun and learning. Best players went to Maya Trevilyn with the $5 canteen voucher and encouragement award goes to Lenny Vonstanke with the Badenochs Deli award.

Junior 1: The girls did an amazing job this week. For the start they were playing their own game, geng amazing intercepts and goal aer goal. The team work was fantasc and there was always someone backing up the play. The goal end did an awesome job working together and geng them in, the midcourt chased all the loose balls and got lots of intercepts, the defence end chased all the rebounds and turned over the ball. Over all a fantasc game girls, well done. Best players go to Sienna Buntsma –Badenochs voucher and Claire Lucas –club voucher

13 & Under: Great effort girls. We took this opportunity to trial a few combos and played with the focus of controlling the controllable which we did. We seen a huge improvement in calls over the whole court and took more me with the ball. There are small posional things to work on at training that will e up our whole game and I'm looking forward to watching us work for the next few weeks. Best players went to Adele for a fantasc effort in defence and Meeka for having such great control and drive down our aack end. Let’s work hard and have a good hit out this week! Best players go to Adele Telford (Badenochs Deli) and Meeka Aikenhead (Club Voucher).

15 & Under: What a fantasc game girls. From the get go we played our own game, chased any loose balls and held our space in the shoong circle to then nail those goals. For being our second game you guys are adjusng to a new team and somemes different posions. Our hunger for the ball and geng that win showed in our team work and work down the court. I can’t wait to see what this year holds for all you girls. Our defensive work with an asset to turning over balls, our midcourt defensive and aacking work and our shooters just outdid yourself and the confidence to shoot those balls paid off. Best players go to Rahni Janeway - $5 Janeway Plumbing, Addison Graney - Kaboom voucher, Imogen Vandepeer – Fasta Pasta.

17 & Under: Great game girls, tough team but I’m really proud how you all played and adjusted to the warm weather. I’m really starng to see moments that work together as a team and as weeks connue you will only get beer! Couple of adjustments to do for trainings but all in all we are geng there! Special menon to Riley for playing in WD! I think you really found your calling and did an excellent job at

holding your player! Best players go to Harmoni Kent ($10 cash donated by the Graney Family) for smashing it in WA, coming towards the ball and being ball side was really good to see. And Eadie Mustart (Lima and Co) for your adjustments on both ends of the court! Think we will get you in goals more! Super proud! Bring on round 3 at home this week.

B Reserve: A hard fought game by all. Hatherleigh were a brilliant side to play against with clean play and good sportsmanship. Unfortunately a few errors in passing and stepping delayed play and we lost our way in the 3rd quarter but reset in the 4th quarter and came back with a 2 point loss. Our shooters had a lot of opportunity but our goals just wanted to bounce out. Our defence once again were a stand out with geng mulple held balls against the opposion. Best players: Marnee (WA/WD) was an absolute stand out with intercepts and reading play and always being in the space (Intersport voucher), Renae Stevens (GK) had an absolute amazing game even if she didn't think so. Her holding is next level. Well done (Bunnings voucher).

B Grade: Bloody good effort girls! In my eyes you were all winners, you fought hard, put your bodies on the line. Unfortunately, the score didn't go in our favour, but that isn't because of how we played. We played like winners. Keep fighng, we will get there. Best players: Chloe Weaver –Mika Beauty, Miranda Skinner – The Commercial Hotel.

A Reserve: It was a tough game. Kongorong’s aack had fresh combinaons which started to gel towards the end of the game. Jordy Heraper and Georgia Bald fought hard in the circle to score. Great aack from Sammy Ham and Paige Hicks, they had tough opposion all game. Defence from Heidi Finnigan, Kelsey Widdison and Sarah Lucas seen may turnovers. Many take-aways from the game! Best players: Kelsey Widdison in GD receiving Arena Sports Voucher and Sarah Lucas in GK receiving a Commercial Hotel voucher.

A Grade: For being undermanned walking into the game, and then being undermanned again right before we played, I am so proud of our efforts to be able to be adaptable as players and work hard regardless of being out of posion or having a game already in the legs for the day. Small posional things let us down due to lack of familiar combinaons and posional knowledge but I couldn't be more proud of our aack on the ball and geng around each other. Thank you to Paige, Sarah, Heidi, Rahni and Kelsey who stepped up and hit the court to help us out and all played with a great intensity and effort. Special shoutout to Rahni, Paige and Heidi who made their A Grade debuts for the club, couldn't be prouder girls! Best on went to Evie for a solid four quarters controlling the aack and Emily for a great game and ght pressure down in defence. Let’s train well for a good hit out this week! Best players: Evie Sealey (Lima and Co) and Emily Lightbody (Commercial Hotel).

NETball club notes robe

A Grade: Robe 44 drew to Glencoe 44. A super impressive effort by the Robe A grade girls. While Glencoe were a tough opposion, we kept an ever-posive atude and although we were down at each break, we managed to finish strongly with a draw. Highlights: Sarah Laurie (Calcua – Kut Loose Hair Design) at GA and then in GS - strong court play and great voice. Lucy Perkins (Coaches award – Woodsoak Wines) at WA, great drives and always available to receive the ball. Overall, a really strong team effort with everyone stepping up to their role. Final score 44 all.

A Reserve: Robe 37 d Glencoe 35. With a few changes in our line up, we knew we would have to fight hard for the win. Thanks to Kim Foulis for playing for us, it was great to see her on the court in red and white, in honour of her mum, Michelle. Kim and Ella combined well and shot accurately under pressure. The mid court had to work hard all game to bring the ball down, with some ght pressure from Glencoe. Great effort to Lexy for stepping up and playing half a game, aer working relessly in the 17's. Jess and Libby got their hands to lots of balls in defence, making it hard for their goalies. With some great intercepts, Libby came away with the Calcua (Kut Loose Hair Design). While Kim F came away with the coaches report (Woodsoak Wines). Great effort and win girls.

B Grade: Robe 24 def by Glencoe 43. Solid start to the game, we held our own to a well oiled Glencoe side. A drop in the 3rd quarter made it difficult for us to pick back up. The penny is dropping though. We had some fantasc passages of play which were impressive to watch from the sidelines. Our defensive pressure across the whole court was solid and we earned so many 2nd effort turnovers. Calcua went to Billie (Kut Loose Hair Design), who played solid in both goals & defence. Coaches award went to Tayla (Woodsoak Wines) who worked hard against accurate goalies geng many turnovers. This game was not out of our reach, it was our own errors which let us down. Let's adjust, learn from our mistakes and have another crack this week.

B Reserve: Robe 25 def by Glencoe 50. Sll working with a relavely new, mixed team we are definitely sll finding our place and our feet. Small changes each quarter made great improvements. With Mahalia out, Olivia and Amanda had their work cut out for them. Their defence work couldn't be faulted and they both stepped up tremendously when they had to. Livvy has definitely found her place in the team, winning Calcua in GA (Kut Loose Hair Design). Everyone played a cracker game and picking coaches award for a hard task. Olivia (Woodsoak Wines) took it out and I look forward to seeing what she brings this week. Here's to this week and watching our team grow and improve.

17 & Under: Robe 46 drew to Glencoe 46. The girls played like a completely different team, the drive and consistency on the court was phenomenal. Every bit of feedback was taken on and all the girls gave it their all, not dropping once. With a few big changes, seeing Kyah (best player –Salubrious Hour) popped into WA, giving the aack line a li. We were

pleased to have Lexi (coaches award –Denton's Sportspower) back with her voice in the defence spurring the girls on. Our goalies shot consistently and rebounded well as well as our mid court working it through efficiently. Super proud of the girls this week, coming away with a draw!

15 & Under: Robe 28 def by Glencoe 48. Under 15’s team started off strong in the first quarter. The players have demonstrated improved passing accuracy and strategic understanding. Teamwork has strengthened, resulng in beer communicaon on the court. While there's room for growth in all aspects, overall, the team shows promise and determinaon. Best player went to Lindsey Terrington (Salubrious Hour) and coaches award went to Holly Varga (Naracoorte Sportspower), both players worked well in defence.

13 & Under: Robe 4 def by Glencoe 52. We started very differently to our last game. My cool, calm, steady girls from round one were well and truly in holiday mode! I'm not sure if it was the wind, a bit of holiday fuz and being out of roune, but let's just say I'm glad that game is behind us! With the wind playing havoc and girls being quite unseled, it didn't take long for Glencoe's stronger, more experienced team to take hold and to take a lead. We had a few great streaks of play throughout the game but once again Lexi worked relessly in defence and earned herself the best player award (Robe Seafood & Takeaway). In the mid court Livia took a knock early but sucked it up and got on with the job. Playing against a hard opponent, she stood her ground, worked hard and got my coaches award (Denton's Sportspower). We have given ourselves lots to work on at training so we will use this as a stepping stone and move on to bigger and beer things.

Junior 1: Great game girls. Everyone is taking what we have learnt at training and pung it into the game! I love your posive outlook on netball, it's so great! Playing girls twice your size and a bit older is always going to be hard, but this is going to make you beer netballers in the future. By the end of the game it felt like we were playing netball, finally transioning the ball down court and using those lile brains! Coaches award (Robe Netball Club) went to Harper for her ability to listen and put those suggesons into acon. Well done Harper and all the girls.

Junior 2: What an improvement from all the girls last week! It was great to see everyone working hard to implement some of the skills we have been focusing on in training and it felt like things clicked a lile for the team. Once again, Jess worked hard all game in centre, her experience is really valuable to her teammates. Malda and Bey read the ball well and had plenty of turnovers in defence. Evie and Tilly were excellent in aack, scoring a goal each which was very excing! Ava worked well through the centre, making plenty of leads and some excellent passes. Well done to Paisley who had a great atude and made a few turnovers in defence. Mia got the coaches award (Robe Netball Club) for running hard and leading in front of her player all game. It was excing to see the girls find their groove and have some steady passages of play down the court.

Junior 2: Well, what a great start to the season! We are pleased to welcome a couple of new girls to the J2 team and to Nangwarry netball club. They definitely took us by surprise and grooved prey well together for their first game playing together and played very well as a new team. Only up from here

Junior 1: Amazing start to the 2024 season girls! Each and every one of you girls should be absolutely proud of yourselves. We had an amazing defensive side with all loose balls being chased, geng lots of intercepons Our aack was moving fast, the girls took their training into the game, lots of goals were scored! Most importantly our teamwork! All girls were cheering each other on and having fun, which was great to watch Best players: Madalyn Chaplin & Scarle Heron

13 & Under: Great win on the first game everyone. Although we were scrappy at mes it was only the first game and will get beer and beer every week with how hard everyone is working at trainings. Lots of good play and passing when we move the ball around and be paent it looks amazing. Just remember to stop and throw when you're ready there is no rush. Defence worked hard all game turning heaps of balls over. Goalies started to move well together and finish off well. Centre drove hard all game and took some nice balls and fed well. Well done everyone, proud of the first game. Let's keep

it up this week. Best players James and Darcy. Tias cafe boba tea award James

15 & Under: A brand new season, with a brand new team taking the court, with some new combinaons these girls went out starng strong . there was some great passages of play but Port Mac played brilliantly and flawlessly and as hard as Nangwarry tried it didn't convert this me. I am proud of my team for fighng ll the end and we look forward to meeng Port Mac next me

17 & Under: Last week saw us take on the Bay. We were looking good in training and unfortunately it wasn't a great start to our season. There were a few great passages of play but all we weren't able to work together as a team. We've got a lot to work on a training and we're looking forward to pung this game behind us and showcase the talent we have on our team. A big thank you to Skye and Kaylee from the 15's for filling in for us. Best players were Keira Roper and Scarle Black

B Reserve: A fresh new Nangwarry team took the court for their first game together

The sun was shining and the girls were in great spirits. Nangwarry started out well, with some great passages of play, but were no match for the Bay girls this me. Lots of fun was had on the court and we look forward to meeng them again next me

B Grade: Great first game effort. We had some great passages of play. We have lots to learn regarding how to play together but we will connue to improve each game. Amy had a great first half gaining numerous intercepons and Ebony ran well at centre Stevie and Chloe worked hard in defence to create turnover opportunies. Montana gave 100% all game to earn the best player award Nat, Ellie and Carla moved well in goals and aer the nerves seled they converted our limited opportunies. Thank you, Zoe, for scoring. Look forward to having you play and join team this week. Award: San Piero coffee voucher - Montana McKay

A Reserve: A big welcome to A Reserve girls! I am excited to be coaching such a fun, versale, and great bunch of girls. We haven't set many goals but the main one is to just enjoy netball, have fun and improve each week. We have a mix of veterans, young experienced senior netballers and a few fresh out of junior netball. Saturday's game started off well and we scored the first goal, to those sing on the sidelines it looked like a team of girls who had been playing together for a while when in fact there is only 2 girls in the side who played A reserve together last year. Krissy played a great game in GK and really focussed on pung everything she has been learning into pracce and it showed. Chrystal held well in the goal circle and was able to posion her body and direct play down the court. I was really impressed with Maddi who grew stronger each quarter as she starts her senior netball career. She moved well in the circle, and was able to use her height to her advantage. Best player and BWS award went to Chrystal Lock. Thanks Mumma Sue for making a comeback as scorer, I have missed your voice on the sidelines

A Grade: Welcome girls to A Grade 2024! Michelle and I are beyond thrilled to embark on this journey with you as your coaches for the season. Your promising performances across the court fill us with excitement for the growth ahead Let's connue to train relessly, li each other up, and maintain our unwavering spirit, and next me that we face Pt Mac they will come up against a team that has greatly improved. Best players – Kayla Gray and Taysha Marshall

NETball club notes mount burr

Last Saturday we hosted Kalangadoo, our first home game of the season where we started our day of netball a lile later to work in with the night game. We then hosted Ladies Night, where we had prime posion to watch the football. A great night was had raising funds to support the resurfacing of the netball courts. A huge thank you to all of the ladies that were involved with organising the event, the generous sponsored the donaons from players and families. Thank you to all who came and supported this event. Stacey Lowndes – President.

Junior 2: Another great game to kick off the season. You girls are already showing great teamwork, which is amazing so early on in the season. You all gave your best efforts and that was fantasc to see. Your defensive pressure was outstanding, taking intercepts and creang turnovers. We can work on coming in front of our players to receive the ball and making sure you get your three feet before defending your player. We will work on these at the next few trainings! The McDonald's award went to Holly for using her loud voice to call for the ball and being very encouraging towards her teammates during the game. The Zambrero's award went to Lacey who showed a real fight for the ball and had fantasc defensive pressure all game. Well done girls!

Junior 1: An amazing second game for the season girls! Before the game we discussed defensive pressure throughout the whole court and making second efforts, it was great to see the way you implemented this in the game. Unfortunately due to sickness we were down a few players but the improvement from every single player on the court was incredible! Thank you so much to Lacey Croser for stepping up and filling in for the last quarter. Thank you also to Ashlee for umpiring and Cathie-Anne for scoring. Awards went to Mia - Boost, MaldaSportspower and Scarle - Acky's.

13 & Under: Well done girls. A great game and we came out firing right from the first quarter. Poppy and Emily combined well in the circle and are starng to make space for each other, strong feeding around the circle with some lovely shoong. Isabelle and Sophie played ght defence and took strong rebounds with great passing down the court. Alice and Wren ran the centre and were always opons on the circle with precision passing into our goalies. Hannah and Jessica shared the WD role and put lots of pressure on the centre passes and pung hands over the ball, making it hard for Kalangadoo to put the ball into their aack. Hope driving to the ball and making space was great to watch and was another strong opon on the circle for our goalies. Keep working hard girls. Thanks to Dawn and Stacey for all your support with the girls last week. Thanks to Sarah for scoring and Erin filling in at the last minute in mer and Lilly for umpiring. Awards: Denton’s drink bole - Poppy, Toy Kingdom - Wren, Fasta Pasta - Isabelle.

15 & Under: Unlucky girls, the score didn't reflect the game that was played. There were great passages of play all over the court but with the heat it was hard to connue it over the 4 quarters. It was a really defensive game, all of the girls working overme to get the ball back. Best players were Callie geng Zambrero's award, Gemma geng the Ignion Fitness, Chloe geng the Cafe Melzar award.

17 & Under: Great weather for netball and we came up against a strong team to see where we are at. There is great flexibility in our team which means we have the ability to make changes and see what combinaons will work in different situaons. All players involved in taccal changes did well to get straight into the

game. We found out the importance of making space and connually reoffering towards the ball. When we kept making appropriate posion on the ring, it made passing to goalies much easier. Some great passages of play from defence down court. The next step is to make sure we don't crowd the centre third, having faith in the defenders to drive into space. Macy played a strong game in defence winning the Zambrero award. Ashlee drove well into the circle and was awarded the Sports Power award. Lola created defensive pressure at WD and provided drive down court, winning the Subway and Sports Power drink bole. Olivia fed well to goalies and created space at WA to win the Acky's award. Thanks Jodie for umpiring, Wendy for scoring and Julie for ming.

B Reserve: Mount Burr 35 defeated by Kalangadoo 56. We really struggled as a team to find some composure against a very experienced and accurate team. We kept fighng and made lots of posional changes, finding our third goalie in Makayla and cleaner ball movement with Zali in WA. I was really proud of our team for connuing to fight for possession right ll the end. Best players went to Makayla Gregory and Mia Grant. Thanks to Somerset Hotel, Since55, Ignion Fitness & Cafe Melzar for the awards.

B Grade: We knew this would be a tough bale coming up against a strong Kalangadoo side. It was a tough physical game. Kalangadoo cane out strong in the first quarter leading by 5 goals at the first break. Kalangadoo were able to increase this lead in the third, we made silly mistakes allowing Kalangadoo to take advantage of these errors. Our GD Nicole going down hard and sustaining concussion and whiplash in the third which raled the whole team, we hope you have a good recovery and we will see you back on the court soon. I’m proud of you all for fighng to the end and not dropping your heads. Lets re-group at training and come out strong this week.

Awards: Somerset - Caity, Zamberos - Zoe and Melzar - Lilly

A Reserve: Following a challenging bale for the win last game, we knew how important it was to maintain consistency right from the start against Kalangadoo. They came out strong, as expected, creang turnovers and taking the lead going into the first break. The second quarter was tough as we struggled to get the ball into aack and convert the turnovers the defensive end was creang. Heading into the last half we made a few player changes which included bringing our young Sara Smith on for her A Reserve debut. She fought hard for all balls and opened up the play which enabled us to have greater scoring opportunies. Despite the tough loss against an incredible side, we had some standout moments that demonstrate our potenal. Our best players and award winners were: Simone - Sassi, Maddie - Somerset, AvaDenton’s. Congratulaons again to Sara Smith on your debut. We are super excited to connue watching you grow this season!

A Grade: We went into this game knowing it was going to be tough against the experienced reigning premiers. We're sll trying to find our feet with combinaons & felt the absence of Danika in the goal circle. We had good passages of play throughout the game, going goal for goal in the last quarter. We have plenty of things to work on but happy with the girls overall efforts. Megan Thiele (Zambrero’s), Ashlee Dean (Somerset), Ella Easterby (Millicent Florist). Thank you Lisa for umpiring, Allan for scoring & Nicole for ming.

NETball club notes

We wish Sally McDonnell and Sienna Hawke all the best for their milestone games today. Sally will play her 100th game in today's B Grade game and Sienna will play her 50th game in today's 17 and Under match. Congratulaons girls!

Junior 1: Another great game by everyone. Thank you to Tamara for coaching last week and Ruby and Bella for sing bench and talking the court. Everyone put in a great team effort and it was rewarded with some great passages of play at both ends of the court. You all listened and made changes when needed. Goalies all worked well in the circle with some great shots, holding and rebounds. Lots of intercepts, touches and chasing loose balls in defence and the mid court did some great drives and front cuts. Best went to Hollie for improving each quarter and great driving and front cung all game. Encouragement went to Charloe –you le some skin on the court but you went back out and played a great defensive game. Well done to everyone!

Junior 2: What a fantasc second game for the season everyone. I am so impressed with how well we are all listening at training and then implemenng so many new things into the games. We had a few players away, so I need to say a big thank you to Ruby O, Billy, Paige, Charloe, Shelby and Mikayla for all filling in for us throughout the game. Ruby J and Addison worked so hard in the goal circle all game, coming in front and shoong lots of goals! Adele ran hard through the mid court to get lots of passes on the circle. Isabella and Iva applied lots of hand pressure in defence and got lots of touches and our junior 1 players helped on the wings. Amazing work everyone! I look forward to seeing what we do this week. Best players were Adele and Addison for pung in 100% throughout the game.

13 & Under: Glencoe 52 defeated Robe 4. What a fantasc team effort and a wonderful win girls! We started off strongly through some lovely court play and feeding into Hallie & Emma who finished off well with great shoong. Our defensive efforts were fantasc all over the court for the whole game which gave us lots of opportunies to score. The transion of the ball down the court was good to watch and as we start to gel as a team unit this is only going to get beer and beer. Mia played her first game and played a great game in the mid court earning her best player (Dycer Construcons), second best went to Hallie and encouragement award (Kaboom) went to Annabelle who got a lot of turnovers for the team.

15 & Under: Glencoe 48 defeated Robe 28. Well done girls, it was quiet a ght first half but we managed to pull away in the second half with lots of pressure in defence and lots of accurate feeds into the goalies. Violet played well and would chase down anything that was in the goal circle earning her best player, Kloe had lots of touches and intercepts earning second best and Layla drove hard all day creang lots of drive down the court. Once again another team effort with everyone playing their part.

17 & Under: Glencoe 46 drew with Robe 46. Could not be prouder of this group of girls to be down at 3 quarter me & to all fight back was so pleasing to see from the side lines. Goalies working well in the circle with great moving, we just need to make sure every shot counts. Mid court drove well, we just need to make sure we are passing in front. I tried a few different combinaons in defence which worked well geng plenty of touches & fighng under the ring for rebounds. Our mid court pressure is where we improved the

most last week with turnovers & held balls called. Never give up girls, the wins will come! Best players: Sienna Hawke for never giving up at GD & Alyssa Medhurst for her strong holds & moving in the goal circle.

B Reserve: Glencoe 50 defeated Robe 25. Well done girls, great to get a win on the board this early stage of the season to give us some confidence! There were many instances of great ball movement which looked seamless, as if we'd been playing together for longer. There was also lots of defensive pressure down the court creang many turnovers. We need to connue to have confidence in ourselves and abilies as a team but it was a great effort by all. Best players were Lauren for her direcon, reliability and encouragement and Jorja for her movement in the circle and unwavering four quarter effort.

B Grade: Glencoe 43 defeated Robe 24. A fantasc win girls! We put in a solid team effort across all 4 quarters to come away with a strong win. Again we had a slow start in the first quarter with only 5 team members available to play and a number of fill ins. It took us a while to gel and play cohesively but by the third quarter we came out firing. Abbie and Isobel got into a good rhythm and shot well together Isobel moved well in the circle and held strongly to earn first best. Gemma was a great opon on the circle and fed well to earn herself second best. Bri played a fantasc game out of posion at WD and should be very pleased with her efforts. Our defence was strong all day and limited the opportunies to score. Giaan was very strong and had plenty of touches. Thank you to Abbie, Chloe, Lauren and Julia for filling in. Let’s go out hard again next week and get another win on the board.

A Reserve: Glencoe 35 lost to Robe 37. Another ght game and again we just missed out. It was a tough game with some serious defensive pressure for our aack line. Geng it in to the ring wasn't easy but we didn't give up, giving it our all for the full 4 quarters. Amazing persistence in working it around unl we could get the defenders out of posion and the ball safely to Max and Alannah. There were so many great passages of play we can take away from this game and I think with a full team next round the win will be ours. Huge thanks to Alyce for filling in and Abbie and Sally for benching.

A Grade: Glencoe 44 drew with Robe 44. Another year, another draw! Always a ght contest against Robe. We started the game strong in defence geng lots of hand to ball but unfortunately weren't able to capitalise and give ourselves the deserved lead on the scoreboard. And unfortunately this was the story for most of the game. The pressure was on in our goal circle and we had to be more paent with the ball going in. Donna and Ashlea did well to work the ball on and off the circle unl the space opened up. We let ourselves down with some skill errors and a lack of determinaon for the ball at mes. We need to focus on scking in it for the full four quarters and not dropping our heads. Well done to Jenna for stepping up in the final quarter and providing a strong opon in the circle and geng some awesome rebounds. Best player (O'Brien Electrical) went to Donna for her strength through the middle and adjusng her game to be a reliable opon. Second best went to Tameka for her efforts stepping up a grade and geng some good hand to ball. Thank you to Tameka for filling in for us and Max, Zoe and Mckayla for sing bench. Let’s dy up our errors and came out with more confidence this week.

Junior 2: So glad to have these gorgeous Tiges again for 2024! Very impressed with the performance of these girls! I couldn't tell it was the first game of the season. You all demonstrated you've been listening at training which was evident by coming towards the ball, excellent movement in the ring and minimal congeson! We can only improve from here! We'll done girls. Best players: Lacey Peters and Edie Sunderland.

Junior 1: What an absolutely perfect day for our first game of netball. All 9 girls played strong, compeve netball & I was extremely proud of their effort. They implemented many skills we have been working on at training & confidently brought the ball down court, playing front. A brilliant first game ever by Izzy, awesome shoong by Stella & excellent second efforts by Lacey Awards went to Stella Perry (Scroll Queen) & Lacey Randall (Tant Netball Canteen).

13 & Under: Perfect weather to start the season & everyone seled into their posions well even with all the changes. Aack followed what we had been working on at training & our defence worked relessly making many intercepons. Moving forward, let's work on strong passes & space. A great first game played by all making it extremely hard to pick this weeks awards.

Tant canteen voucher went to Chiara for her movement in goals. McDonalds award goes to Jaycie for having a great crack at GD

15 & Under: Although we were beaten by a beer team on the day there were many posive signs. We started well unl Lani's injury, which was not only painful and upseng for her but unseling for her teammates. We suffered from a lack of fitness, lack of confidence and poor execuon of basic skills - all things that can be fixed with some hard work at trainings (and at home). We have the talent, just need some self-belief and hard work. Alice earned Ducky's Surf award for an outstanding game, Rachael the Fasta Pasta award and Summah - Devine Gis award. We wish Lani a speedy recovery and know she will be just as vocal in her support of her team mates from the sideline.

17 & Under: First game of the season and we took home the win! With some nerves to start the game saw us trail by 7 in the first quarter however aer that the girls seled. Bethan played an excellent game in at shooter and combined well with Poppy who used her speed to her advantage. Hailey, Demi and Kailah in the mid court worked relessly all game to provide accuracy into the goalies. These girls also worked hard defensively. Molly and Isla debut their new defensive combinaon and started to win lots of ball and got us back into the game. Kaitlin played some ght defensive pressure all game and made her opponent work for every pass. Such a great game to start our season. Well done girls. Best players went to Bethan Roberts - Somerset and Hailey McGrath - KFC voucher

B Reserve: Wow! Seldom do you get all members of a team contribung to a game and connuing the posive momentum, despite the many changes necessary with ten players. Special

menon to our goalies - it's not easy coming off the bench or asked to sit out a quarter when you are “on a roll” with accuracy and posioning and have to start all over again! Sally was the vocal point, shoong over half our team total. Chloe received the Coaches award (Devine Gis) - following instrucons to the leer mid court, led by captain Kath (McCourt's Garden award) were solid throughout both in aacking and defending modes. Our circle defenders, Amy (K & S Ampol award), Riley and Holly showed great potenal I am excited to see how much growth there will be in the coming weeks.

B Grade: First game back already and what a game it was! A new year and a new team. Before hing the court we had a strong game plan as over the past few weeks we have been pung our basics into play and working on our court structure. The girls went out there and absolutely killed it! They worked amazing together and kept the game posive, with lots of backing up. We stayed consistent throughout the four quarters and it showed coming away with an amazing win! Let's hope we can keep up the good work and connue on winning!

A Reserve: First game of the season and the weather was amazing for a hard fought game by both teams. Tant hit the court with a new line up and lots of taccal changes made and all were taken in the stride of players. Taking on the reigning premiers the Tigers were taking it up to them. Eva Bonde shung down the aack end with some ght checking defence strengthened by Lucy Barber, Dakota Hately, Sophie Bellman and Kristy Varcoe. Aack end for the Tigers was a new look like up but proved to be working and building with first year senior play Ebony Cytrowski making her mark. The ever hardworking Krystal Redden plays the game with a smile at all mes. Determined running by Alana Fensom through the centre provided valuable drive and accurate passing into the goal circle. Even though we didn't come away with the win, very much looking forward to the season ahead from these girls.

A Grade: Great start to the season and nothing like keeping it interesng for our supporters. With a few personnel changes to last year's team, I was really happy that we remained composed throughout the game, parcularly when we were down by a number of goals. Congratulaons to Casey on her 150th A grade game, a wonderful achievement with many more to come. Some lovely passes from Kate and Casey into the circle with plenty of paence. Jami's (Somerset) excellent work rate and Emma's (Denton Sportspower) great posioning was topped off with excellent shoong. Well done to Molly on her first A Grade game. You certainly held your own and will connue to learn and keep improving. Bella and Kate's second half was terrific and your understanding of each other will only get beer each week. Look forward to Shelby taking the court in the not to distant future. Many thanks to Narelle for passing on her knowledge and experience, we as a team will certainly reap the rewards of all that you have to offer. Sll plenty of work to do, but I look forward to the season ahead. Thanks once again to all our support people and look forward to working with you again this season.

Mt Burr v. Kalangadoo

The weather made for a great day for netball. Mt Burr were missing Danika Shepherd, but had young shooter Ashlee Dean return to the side for her first game of the season. The first quarter saw Ebony McDiarmid (GS) being the focal point in the Kalangadoo goal circle through the accurate feeding of Abbey Duncan (GA) and Jayde Peacock ( C). Mt Burr brought on Abbey Falng at C to try to add drive into the aack line. Ashlee Dean (GS) was the focal point for Mt Burr, however the defensive pressure of the Kalangadoo midcourt forced turnovers and allowed circle to defenders to take possession. Kalangadoo capitalised on turnovers to have a 9 goal lead at quarter me. Mt Burr returned Laura Schultz to C and Olivia Dean to GS, creang drive and a great combinaon with Ella Easterby (WA). K’doos Jane Auld (WA) drove strongly to the circle edge, moving the ball quickly down court, feeding Duncan's strong drives close to the post. Genle and Lauren Kain (WD) connued to force errors in Mt Burr’s aack line, which were converted through accurate shoong. In the third quarter J Peacock and Schutlz created pressure for their respecve teams. During the third, Chloe Peacock entered the game at WA with Auld connuing to be a strong presence on the circle edge at centre. Munro was geng ps on the ball when forced into the Burr’s circle making the Dean girls work hard for possession. A Dean created space, once again shoong with accuracy with some goals coming from strong rebounding. The Burr made some progress in defense, but were unable to stem the flow with Kalangadoo having a 24 goal lead at 3 quarter me. In the final quarter Mt Burr defense in Madi Hagge and Megan Thiele started to create turnovers and put pressure on K’doo goalies. A Dean connued to drive strongly into the goal circle maintaining possession through accurate feeding from Schultz and Easterby Duncan worked outside of the circle to gain possession and feed McDiarmid at GS. Hagge and Thiele rebounded missed opportunies and Mt Burr used the ball well down court to score. The last quarter was even at 10 a piece. Kalangadoo came away with a solid win, their final score being 54 to 30.

Robe v. Glencoe

A very defensive game from both ends. Strong arms and rebounding from Glencoe Sarah Edwards at GD and Tameka Medhurst at GK. This gave Glencoe a slight advantage in the first quarter. Robe seled towards the end of the quarter aer Kimberley Ausn provided ample defensive pressure. Quarter me score was 10 to 7 Glencoe way. Robe geng more access to the ball in the second quarter, with Lucy Perkins ulising great angles down through the mid court. Sarah Laurie driving well within the goal ring and finishing off to meet up to the Glencoe score. Sophie Bates and her speed and intercepons helped Robe to bring the half me score to 19/20, Glencoe way. A goalie switch worked well for Glencoe at the beginning of the third, increasing their lead out to 6 goals. An ankle injury to Laurie also forced a goalie switch in Robe’s shoong circle. Glencoe capitalised with some speed and accurate shoong. However, Robe kept their head well, switching Demi Carter into a running role at GA, with Sarah holding space in GS. The 3/4 me score reflecng a ght match between teams 31 to 32 Glencoe way. Glencoe opened the final quarter strongly creang space and accuracy within the goal ring from both of their shooters, Cocks and Paproth. Glencoe’s mid court controlled their passing and fed well to their shooters. Robe’s determinaon and posive team play allowed them to be one goal up in the final minute. Glencoe then ulised their centre to score in the last five seconds to create a draw for the game. Ending the final quarter at 44 all. Robe Best Players: Sarah Laurie & Lucy Perkins. Glencoe Best Players: Donna Jaenschke & Tameka Medhurst.

Port MacDonnell v. Nangwarry

Another sunny day at Port Mac saw Nangwarry in their first hit out for season 2024 taking on the Demons who were coming off a loss against Kalangadoo in Round 1. Port MacDonnell started off well - Cody Manning at GA shoong 100% and Kori Collins working herself into the game at GS, missing quite a few opportunies, but sll scoring 9 for the quarter. It was clear Nangwarry are a young & inexperienced side - they were unable to score this quarter, however Kayla Gray was a shining light for them in defencetaking numerous intercepts & rebounds & making Port Macs goalies earn every goal. Quarter me score was 13-0.Nangwarry made some changes which seemed to workLacey Neale moved to GS & shot their one & only goal for the term. Port Mac’s midcourt were playing a strong game, Alysha Coon creang many turnovers at centre & Megan Hein geng a lot of touches at WD. Emily Thompson was also impressive for the demons at GK, gathering a lot of possessions. Taysha Marshall was giving her all for the Saints at WD. Port Mac in the lead 26-1 at half me. The third quarter saw some Demon changes, Cody Manning came to the bench, Sophie Lewis came on to WA, Hein moved into goals & Kate Faint to WD. Nangwarry made no changes aer half me & built on their score slightly - with Neale & Sheridan Sakkers scoring a goal each. Port Mac should have advanced with their score line more than they did - missed opportunies hurng them & Kayla Gray rebounding beaufully for the Saints. The final quarter saw no changes from either team. Emily Thompson connued her good work in defence, ably backed by Alana Berkefeld. Collins & Hein struggled to capitalise. Gray really grew from strength to strength at GK for the Saints & played a game that coach Chrystal Lock would have been proud of. While the game was quite a scrappy affair at mes - the Saints will only improve from here on in. Port Mac head into the bye before taking on Mt Burr in Round 4. Final score was 50-4, best for the Demons were Alysha Coon & Emily Thompson, while for the Saints it was Kayla Gray & Taysha Marshall.

Hatherleigh v. Kongorong

Hatherleigh had a slow start to the game with Kongorong showing more accuracy in their shoong with Hatherleigh catching up to be level pegging at the end of the first quarter Strong defence by Lara MacGregor and Demi Vanderhorst kept the pressure on the Kongorong goalies keeping the score low. Hatherleigh made some taccal changes in the 2nd quarter and moved Demi Vanderhorst from Goal Keeper to Goal shooter where she and Bree Harris quickly seled into the game changing the whole dynamic. Hatherleigh had two juniors who played well in centre assisng with the flow down the court and many turnovers. The third quarter saw Hatherleigh’s Erin Watson connue to feed the ball into the goal circle and the Hatherleigh goalies taking advantage of the quick passes. Kongorongs Emily Lightbody kept up the defensive pressure against the Hatherleigh goalies and at the beginning of the 4th quarter Kongorong made the taccal change of moving their Goal shooter to goal keeper to add more height in Hatherleighs goal circle with this change Evie Seely moved into Goal shooter. The Hatherleigh goalies adjusted well to this change in the circle connuing to take charge of the game . Best players

Hatherleigh Erin Watson and Bree Harris. Kongorong Evie Seely and Emily Lightbody
