F.L.

The Tigers will need to be wary of not giving West any sniff of momentum as the latter has the ability to change games during damaging passages of play. This was showcased for all to see at McLaughlin Park where the Roos won after producing a scoreless opening term. With the threat of falling outside the top four for the loser, expect neither side to take a backward step. South Gambier v Casterton Sandford Sadly it is incredibly difficult to find anything suggesting a Casterton Sandford victory over South Gambier at Blue Lake Sports Park. Before the break, the Cats had lost every game, suffered a terrible amount of injuries and to make matters worse, COVID restrictions destroyed their ability to train. But the Victorians returned to Island Park at the end of last month and used the extended break as a chance to refresh. And the side needs to soak up every single minute of preparation for its daunting onfield return against the mighty Demons. South is the hot premiership favourite and for good reason, knocking over every obstacle in its way and the COVID-enforced break should have played into its hands, giving the players a breather from their electric start to the season. The Demons will make sure they will not lose any momentum from the mid-year gap with another t e x t b o o k performance.

Great to be back on the park again a er a few weeks off. Welcome to all South Gambier players and supporters. We are very thankful to both the league and South for there support in ge ng this weeks round up and going.

Unfortunately due to South Australia’s border restric ons this could be an ongoing theme in coming weeks unless the borders fully open up. In the pre season, we put a con ngency plan to the league and clubs which stated this would be the case if we couldn’t get across the border with our full squad due to South Australian restric ons.

Blue, White & Red flying around the track (when we have been allowed) and reckons the boys are up for the challenge today. A big ba le of the Kane’s, let’s hope the local one comes out on top!! Today we congratulate Hammer and Jus n on their 100th game. Hopefully they can put their differences of the last month or so aside and work together today to help us get the win. See you all in the Ca ery a erwards for a beau ful meal a er awards! And on a lighter note, for those that weren’t lucky enough to witness it, we may even be lucky enough for Chrisso to give us a replay of the candy that he sold to both Dirmy and our coach before hi ng up the full forward on Thursday night.

Let’s all hope that some common sense prevails and the government over there let’s us all back over in the coming weeks. A massive thankyou must go to all volunteers and club members for YEP YEP p u n g to get h e r to d ay a n d making it a huge success with only a li le over 24 hrs no ce. This is what makes this town and club such a great place to be. We welcome Kainy and his troops over today and what an impressive season they are pu ng together! Our own Kane has had the boys

MILLICENT

Millicent Red, Black & White With the week off for Covid the Appren ce took a well-earned break and is already loading material for next round and Thanks to him for taking on the task of club notes! The Seniors showed early on against West that the style of footy we want to play stacks up and can be very dominant in the way we want to move the ball. A bit of wayward kicking saw us unable to fully capitalize but we had plenty of it. A er quarter me we saw West get their tails up and put pressure on around the ground and we couldn’t quite get the game back on our terms despite some of our best efforts. Gene kicked a bag again with 7 majors, with our only other goal to Mitch Reilly. Be er players on the day were Gene, followed by Jaxon Cush in his best senior game so far and another young gun Varcs, Dyl Tinks and Dredgey. The Ressies was a great game and the lead see-sawed a bit all day but our lads snuck out for a well deserved win. Brad Tilley ran an extra 5K/day a er a long spell away to help out with numbers and was best with 4 quarter efforts by Hammer, Pra y, Narnie, Nat and Bud. Goals to Narns 3, Tank 2 and Tilley 2.

West Gambier Blue & Red The under 14s started off with a bang against Millicent jumping out to a goal break at quarter time, The boys have been stringing some great passages of play and have been working hard. Toby Stutley was named best on for the game and has continued on his great year so far H a r vey C ro ke r co nt i n u e s h i s consistent season. Logan Scott, Silas Bowden and William Johnston round out the best players. The 16s started of slow which proved to be the difference between the two sides. Harry Opperman keeps being a bull down back with his straight line running was named best on ground. Brad Cowling is the wall down back as he rebound after rebound. Henry James, Billy Weise, Hamish Case and Jarrad Case rounded out the best players. In the 18s took the field finally with some good numbers and it showed in the way they played. Coming up against second side they stuck at the Job and was always in the game until the final siren going down by 5 points in the end. Great team effort and shows when they have a full team the damage they can do going forward in the year. Mitch Cornolo playing his second game for the day was brilliant in defence and held the side together to be named best player. Another 16 in Jo Judd with his skill and polish was named second best followed by the general Jack Carson and Josh Cornolo. The Ressies took on Millicent looking for 3rd spot on the ladder. In a great game of country football the reserves but was run over in the last quarter to lose by a goal. James Keatley was great across half back to be named best on ground followed by the big fella Cooper Sanderson. Mr Consistent Sam Von duve was third best with Arron Herron and Sam Robson rounding out the best players.

V

The seniors continued the pattern off staring slowly with Millicent dominating the first quarter and thankfully not kicking straight with the breeze to lead by 28 points. We had a crack in the second quarter and worked hard to capitalise on our opportunities and play football the way we want. Our team defence stuck strong in the third to carry in a 28 point 3 quarter time. We held on a strong finishing Millicent side to get the win by 17 points to get the win on the board. Clear best player for us our skipper Lawry BradleyBrown, followed by the young big man in Brayden Olds who worked hard to get his hands on the ball first. Evergreen Tom Holmes keeps on giving 110% as did the smooth Alex Jarnevic across half back. Garret Ha Kicking 5 goals was dangerous every time we went forward with a great goal from the boundary as was Josh Schapel who was everywhere. This week is a special day for the club celebrating the premierships from 1971, 2010 & 2011. What a great achievement from the club to win back to back and we are honoured to celebrate this at the club today with all past players, officials, members.

Look forward to seeing and meeting some of the people that have made our clubs history so rich and makes us want to strive to achieve more success within. I look forward to hearing all the exaggerated stories from the 71 crew and all the highly exaggerated truths from 10 & 11 boys. Past coaches and league medalists are also invited to the club which will round out a great night at the club. Go Westies! Fridge

North Gambier

Rough day on the park all round Saturday and congratulations to South on how they are going across all grades. So pleased with their efforts, South President Glynn even made the long trek across to the club for the first time in 20+ years, with many players and staff. Thanks for the support.

We were competitive for much of the A grade, with most of the damage done in the 2nd quarter and we didn’t capitalise on what we produced in the 3rd quarter. Best players were Austin Kitschke, Jake Schutz, Mitch Whan, Henry Gould and Brett Shepherdson (both in new roles) and Brad Stafford. Congratulations to Elijah Firth on his first game and we look forward to many more.

Yellow & Black Stephens. The u14s came crashing down to earth, perhaps in the loss they had to have. Best players were Kade Allen, Connor Lunnay, Iowani Coleman, Will Norman, Cooper Turner and Jasmyn Plew-Jones, one of the four girls that played on the day. Huge day at home this week against West, with results going some way towards shaping the 4 in most grades. Congratulation to those that have represented the South East in SAPSASA and interleague recently. Save the following dates and see our social media for further information; 19/6/21 – Junior fluro night 26/6/21 – Flight night 3/7/21 – Sponsors day 6/8/21 - Auction Thanks to our major sponsors, Stuckey Electrical Contractors and KFC.

A similar result to round 1 in the reserves did not reflect an improved performance. Hopefully as the team stabilises, results will too. Best players were Joe Renko (who looked like he was trying to chase down a robber all day), Tom Flett, Jack O’Connor, Jordy Mansell (who made some very usual noises when he Go tigers. came off at one stage) and Tom Madigan who must nearly have broken his personal consecutive games record. The u18s had trouble getting out of the blocks, not scoring until the 3rd quarter. Plenty for coach McInerney to work on, with the boys needing to trust and listen to him. Best players were Jacob Arthurson, Seith McRae, Adam Prosperi-Porta, Alex Stafford, Brodie Allen, Ethan Norman and Angus Widdison. Despite the u16s falling short, coaches Moretti and Shepherdson found plenty of positives to take out of the game. Best players were Mackye Baron, Darcy Arthurson, Angus Allen, Richard Kinyabugma, Reece McLaughlin and Teangi

WITH Good things happen to those who wait and men don’t appreciate some patience was the key behind the success of young kid jumping over them, so they found other means to stop me” he said. Cam Haggett’s distinguished career. “It was quite physical and as I was running back Haggett represented Millicent at the highest with the flight of the ball to take a mark, level with pride for the best part of 15 years and someone made me earn it and I hit the ground his work dominating ruck contests has not been pretty hard. “They took me off the field and I ended up forgotten. However, the start of his journey is a unique going to the hospital because I had concussion, one where he did not run on the field until he so that was my welcome the big boys club of senior footy.” was 16. Haggett was a sporty kid growing up playing a bit of everything from cricket, soccer and basketball with the latter stealing his heart. But the Essendon fan always had a soft sport for Aussie Rules and got his chance when a cricket teammate asked if he could fill in for a game. Already a tall figure, Haggett’s had a natural talent for the game, but despite loving every single moment of his debut, he said it almost didn’t happen. “It was pretty good, but I nearly missed it because I wasn’t sure where it was being played,” he said. “I thought we were at home (McLaughlin Park) and asked some people who said we were actually over at West Gambier. “So I arrived just as the game started, but rucked against someone and some of the opposition said ‘well done’ which made me feel pretty good.” Despite the late start, H a g g e tt ’s c a re e r blossomed quickly after he moved from Millicent to Hatherleigh as a junior. The switch to the MSEFL paid off and he was given his first A Grade jumper at the raw age of 17. Sadly, the debut was not the most pleasant experience for Haggett, who was diagnosed with concussion after the initiation. “It was a bit daunting I guess because rucking against kids is totally different to rucking against adults and quite a few

HAGGETT around the ground and broke into the Interleague squad. Haggett was reaching a “good peak level” until a horrific ankle injury stopped him in his tracks. The “roadblock” forced him to miss two seasons of football where he even questioned lacing up the boots again. Golf became Haggett’s weekend ritual, but a trip to watch the A Grade got “the juices flowing” and he was back in the action in 2008. He said the setback forced him to push further as the Saints also started to create something special. “The ankle injury made me work a bit harder and feel mentally stronger and by 2010 I got myself back to a good level,” Haggett said. “Darren Dean was appointed coach and there was a bit of hype around the club when he and few others arrived, and people had to fight for their spots.” Suddenly an experienced Millicent side reached the grand final after a rare win over South Gambier and playing on the biggest stage was a big deal for Haggett, who had only played two finals in his career before 2010. “It (the grand final) was awesome with a big crowd behind us and to be honest my memories are a blur,” he said. “It was so exciting during the second half as we kept pegging it back and it felt like we were going to get there, but we were pipped at the post.” The history books read West defeated Millicent by three points and Haggett believes a slow start cost his team the ultimate prize. Sadly, he never had another shot at the flag as the Saints struggled to challenge with constant player movement and the ruckman hung up the boots after 2014 due to an ongoing hip problem. Haggett remains floating around the country footy and netball scene following his son and daughter in their respective sports.

Despite the nightmare senior debut, the young Haggett showed plenty of courage and settled into the Eagles’ top team against aggressive opposition. But after one full season at Hatherleigh the rising talent was seeking another move with history at Millicent and personal connections at Mount Burr. Despite a move to Mick and Jean Walker Oval almost a certainty, Haggett was sidelined for an entire season with a knee injury. The long break gave him extra time to think about his big career move and he changed his mind to return home to the Saints at the turn of the century and never left. It proved to be the right call with Haggett finally in Millicent’s A Grade team, while his future wife helped the club to the first of an endless streak of netball premierships. However, the young ruckman who couldn’t play his regular position with veteran Jason Walker controlling the big man’s duties. This forced Haggett to adapt to a new role as a tall target in the forward pocket, a position he had never played in before. He admitted it was a challenge adjusting to unfamiliar territory during the early years where he was forced to bide his time once again before an opportunity further up the ground came his way. “It took me a couple of years to settle in because I was floating around, not really knowing what I was doing or making an impact,” Haggett said. “All I had to do was just keep running, following the footy against a big defender and keeping it Two moments that standout from his pretty simple.” time watching sport is attending the 2007 AFL Grand Final and happily Eventually the years of toil inside 50 paid off yelling at the TV after Josh Aloisi when an unfortunate career-ending injury to sent the Socceroos to their first Walker gave Haggett a chance which he took FIFA World Cup in 32 years. with both hands. MATCH REPORTS MILLICENT V WEST GAMBIER West Gambier clearly came to play and got off to a flyer against the Saints with Sarah Ri er con nuing her dominant season under the post, ne ng 16 from 17 as the Roos worked their way to a seven goal quarter me lead. Ri er was well serviced by Tara Bryant through the mid court and her shoo ng partner Lisa McGregor, while at the other end, Amy Cram and Jade Ri er combined to apply good defensive pressure, resul ng in the turnover ball that allowed the Roos to build that lead. At the first break, Hannah Nitschke and Kimmi Tincknell switched roles, Nitschke moving to the defensive wing and Tincknell to goal defence and that move, plus improved accuracy from their shooters saw the Saints fight back immediately, winning the second quarter by one to start to work their way back. The supply to Ri er was significantly reduced in this quarter but McGregor stepped up to be the dominant target as Bryant con nued to significantly influence the contest with her hard running. The third quarter turned out to be decisive, as Millicent dominated the contest, crea ng more turnover ball than they had in the first half just in this quarter and using their trademark speed of ball and precise delivery to score at will. Lucy Denton and Demi Verbena combined to score 21 from 25 as West suffered from a lack of supply and were it not for the accuracy of Ri er, conver ng all 10 of her opportuni es, the scoreline might have been worse. It saw Millicent take the lead by two going into the last and the final quarter followed a similar script to the third and Denton and Verbena con nued to combine well, sharing the shoo ng load and scoring 20 from 24, while Tincknell got more important touches to ensure the Saints had the edge. It was another heartening performance from the young Roos line-up, who injected Zoe Malseed into the contest at half me, to bring her speed and crea ve feeding to the contest, but having got the jump on the reigning tleholders, West will certainly be looking at ways to consolidate those advantages and not

le ng sides back into the contest. Millicent, also with a new look line-up, and s ll missing tall shooter Tabatha Sanderson, con nue to find a way when challenged. NORTH GAMBIER V SOUTH GAMBIER A er a sub par performance against West Gambier the previous round, South Gambier brought the intensity and focus needed for an A Grade game to it clash with North Gambier. Missing young goaler Lara Munro, who was playing in an indigenous representa ve game, the Demons welcomed back Imi Walker and she had an immediate impact in the opening quarter with her strong takes and accurate finishing. In the early going it was a goal for goal contest and then Tigers sharpshooter Caroline Davey was forced from the court with a blood nose, bringing Lauran Norman into the clash. The young shooter con nues to show promise when given the opportunity and she played out the quarter with the scores ed at the first change, when Davey was able to return. In the second quarter, the Tigers started to find their groove, with Maddie Whaites and Noni McConnell forcing some turnover ball that wasn’t there in the opening stanza, while Mel Renko also got some important touches in centre. The Demons did stay with the Tigers though, as the mother-daughter defensive combina on of Brandi Bouchier and Ellie Bouchier refused to allow the Tigers easy access to their shooters, while Grace Edwards was strong under the post for South and at the main break North had worked its way to a two goal lead. The third quarter was the decisive quarter of the game, with Davey ge ng off the leash ne ng 16 from 18, as North started to really deny the Demons scoring opportuni es at the other end, as errors started to creep into their transi on play. North won the quarter by nine as Renko con nued to dominate and Ellen Brown, who was the perfect foil for Davey as she used her

speed and ability to draw a defender and opened up space for her shoo ng partner. Brown was a key in transi on and also delivered the ball to Davey with accuracy and finished her own opportuni es when required throughout the match. The Demons refused to fall away this week though and the switch of Ellie Bouchier back onto Davey and Brandi Bouchier out to goal defence, saw the defensive duo again pick up some key turnover ball but the accuracy of Davey, 15 from 16 for the quarter, ensured North stayed in control, taking the match by 13 goals.

SA COUNTRY CHAMPS WRAP The Western Border Netball Associa on has returned from the 2021 SA Country Championships with three of the four tles, successfully defending the A Grade, 17 & Under and 15 & Under tles it secured in 2019. It was a new look A Grade line-up lacking the usual experience associated with the Western Border campaigns but there was one constant – coach Donna Denton – and she was able to galvanise the team to work through some tough challenged over the two days of senior compe on and secure the nail bi ng one goal victory. West Gambier’s Lisa McGregor shot the winning goal in the tle decider against the Kowree Naracoorte Ta ara Netball Associa on with around 10 seconds to spare and Western Border was able to hold on. The team had one loss for the championships – that was against its 2019 tle rival Port Lincoln – with those two sides playing an historic curtain raiser to the Adelaide Thunderbirds Saturday night clash with the Sydney Swi s. Injury threatened to undermine the campaign when East Gambier team mates Lisa Fyfe and Tyne Bosko collided on day one, rendering Bosko unable to play on for the weekend, but the team con nue to dig deep. Testament to the strength of the Western Border line-up, three of their players were named in the Team of the Champion ships – Tenille Gray, Emily Hunter and Fyfe. Paige Nitschke and McGregor shared shoo ng du es under the post, with Gray out the front in

the grand final, and both showed great composure with ball in hand and finished accurately. Tarsh McCallum’s speed and ability to work in small spaces was cri cal in the tense opening half as she con nued to provide an outlet for the goalers un l they could find a good shoo ng posi on. Hunter was as dynamic as ever through the centre, while Hannah Nitschke did a shut down job on her opponent and was pivotal in transi on. Fyfe managed to secure turnover ball every me Western Border needed it, while Jade Ri er was another of the young, quiet achievers, who got some cri cal last half touches and rebounds that ensured Western Border was always in the hunt. The 17 & Under team secured a six goal victory, also over the KNTNA, capping off a stunning, undefeated tournament. The KNT got the be er of the first half but the young Western Border side, coached by senior grand final hero, McGregor, refused to let this game slip. Caeleigh Humphries and Por a McRae stepped up the defensive effort in the second half and won back plenty of ball, helped by the ght defensive efforts of Tara Bryant and Ellie Bouchier through the mid court. Bryant was also pivotal in a ack as she combined well with wing a ack Lucy Denton to deliver some precise ball into Amryn Bosko and Sarah Ri er, with both finishing accurately. The 15 & Under championship winning team, coached by Karen Gould, entered the tle decider against long me rival in this age group – Riverland – on the back of only one loss for the weekend, a

one goal loss to the KNTNA. Lille Paul was outstanding in the tle decide at wing a ack, not just with her a acking play but her ability to win ball back defensively. The Western Border side had a sloppy opening half and the Riverland appeared in control as uncharacteris c errors crept into the 15 & Under team’s play. But the girls knuckled down in the second, with Macey Griffith feeding Annelise Janssen with precision and defenders Stella Mobbs and Lauren Van Eeden finding themselves in be er posi on to create turnover ball. Ella Easterby also added some bite to the defensive effort with her pace and willingness to contest on the defensive wing. In the end, it was another nailbiter, with a one goal win as the Riverland ran out of me to transi on a late turnover into their shoo ng circle. The 13 & Under Championship team, coached by Rosie Collins, who experienced huge success as a player for the associa on, played off for the division two tle and finished runner-up, recovering from a tough opening day to put together a string of great results. Western Border also sent two development teams with the Ellie Gould coached 15 & Under team making the semi finals of division three and the 13 & Under team surprising everyone by securing a spot in division one based on their day one results and finishing in the top 10 teams for the championships.

ROUND 10 PREVIEWS MILLICENT V EAST GAMBIER It is the top of the table clash and will feature seven of the nine players that were part of Western Border’s SA Country Championship winning senior side on the June Long Weekend. It looms as a high quality contest with every match up on court intriguing and pivotal. East enters the clash undefeated and much will depend on Millicent’s ability to shut down the scoring opportuni es for goalers Tenille Gray and Amryn Bosko. Gray is coming off another high quality country championships performance and so is Bosko – a key part of the 17 & Under championship winning team and one of the best in the tle decider at the country championships. It means Por a McRae, another 17 & Under championship winning player, Hannah Nitschke, who has part of the senior tle winning side, and Kimmi Tincknell will need to work over me to deny the accurate shoo ng duo easy ball. The ba le in the middle with Emily Hunter taking on Lisa Duldig will also be cri cal. Hunter is physically tough and dynamic, while Duldig has an unbelievably high work rate and a high netball IQ. And speaking of work rate, East wing a ack Tarsh M c C a l l u m , co m i n g o ff a st ro n g co u nt r y championships, will also be a key, with her speed to the circle’s edge and precise delivery. The Millicent a acking end is also full of class, with Lucy Denton, Paige Nitschke and Demi Verbena. It is an a ack line that thrives on speed of ball, with all three players able to fill the shoo ng and a acking wing roles, and they will be looking to use that speed of ball to keep the East defensive combina on of Bo Creek, Lisa Fyfe and Tyne Bosko, who will hopefully have recovered from her Long Weekend injury, on the back foot and not able to set up and play to their strength, forcing cross court ball to intercept. East s ll looks to have the edge but expect an even close game than their first round clash. WEST GAMBIER V NORTH GAMBIER West holds a one-nil head to head with the Tigers this season and both sides will be keen to stamp their authority on this clash and show they are a genuine contender for the 2021 tle. Both ends of the court have strong, holding goal shooters who finish accurately and it will be

denying supply to Caroline Davey (North) and Sarah Ri er (West) respec vely that will be the priority of each line-up, with full court defensive the only solu on. The players charged with denying those two shoo ng machines easy ball are Jade Ri er (West) and Maddie Whaites (North), with Ri er coming off a really good performance at the SA Country Championship and Whaites arguably the best keeper in the compe on. The respec ve goal defenders will also be called on to play some help defence with West’s Amy Cram as smart as they come and a real general in the defensive third for the Roos and Noni McConnell always up for the fight and willing to contest every ball. The problem for the respec ve defensive combina ons is the goal a acks for each team cannot be le unguarded. Lisa McGregor was a late call up for the Western Border SA Country Championships team and showed her usual composure and smarts, while Ellen Brown has pace to burn and is not afraid of taking the long shot. The mid court sees the pace and hard running of Tara Bryant and Carlee Davey and the ght checking of wing defender Nikeisha Facey for the Roos up against the speed and smarts of Brianna Davey and Mel Renko’s leadership, hard running and defensive talents. It looms as a nailbiter with West again taking the points.

defence from Humphries, who had an outstanding SA Country Championships in Western Border’s 17 & Under on the Long Weekend, and pressure from the mid court that includes Scarle Jarrad and Madison Mutch. Of course, the Cats defence also has to contend with young goal a ack Lara Munro, who has shone in her debut A Grade season and is an accurate finisher. Alyssa Duncan also looms large as she will need to lead the South’s a ack line. A part of the Western Border’s 17 & Under championship winning team, Duncan is a smart netballer who finds good posi on on the circle’s edge and delivers the ball with precision, and she will need to be the general of the Demons a acking end. Defensively, the Demons look strong with Renee Pluckhahn, Brandi Bouchier and Ellie Bouchier and Casterton Sandford will need to be pa ent with ball in hand to avoid turnovers, with all three of the South defenders brilliant at reading the play and with a healthy appe te for the intercept. Tori Broomby will be the key there with her leadership of the Cats offensive set up, while Charlo e Rice – a talented young shooter – will need to be strong at the post and finish accurately. South looks to just have the edge and secure a home victory in Western Border’s return to compe on a er a couple of weeks on hold.

SOUTH GAMBIER V CASTERTON SANDFORD The trickiest part of analysing this contest between South Gambier and Casterton Sandford is knowing who will line up for each team, with injury and player unavailability seeing these two sides rarely fielding the same team in consecu ve rounds. The Demons got the be er of the side’s first round clash but did have a couple of their university students back for the round and the Cats lost key defender Caeleigh Humphries to injury early in the clash. It makes this weekend’s clash a bit of an unknown but what Casterton Sandford will know is tall South shooter Grace Edwards won’t have got any shorter and they will need to work hard in front of the ball to pressure the delivery to the Demons spearhead. Ebany Jarrad or Claire Foster will probably get the job and both are tough young defenders who love contes ng the ball in the air. They will rely on help

NO GAME LAST ROUND DUE TO BORDER RESTRICTIONS

Mackenzie Harrold deserves a special mention this week - just ask anyone who watched the 11 & Under game (that's the game being played while some of you are still in bed!!!). She shot the lights out from long range and led the team to their second victory for the season. This group is really improving and Lucy Noonan, Zara Harten, Maya Clarke, Lily Jones, Lucy Dening, Ellie McCracken, Elsie Merchant, Kasey Whittaker, Courtney Sims, Holly Wilson, Myla Raedel, Ruby Loring, Issy Fielding & Paegan Collins are all working hard at their netball and getting the results. Taking on the all conquering North Gambier 15 & Under team, Brandi's girls did a great job in really improving their scoreline. Madison Mutch

100 games for ritter

Jade player started her playing her opposition work for every ball. career with West Gambier Netball Her hard work has paid off for her this season with being selected for Club in 2016. the first time in the A grade team She is a very underrated player who and also the senior Western Border is a valued team member. She side competing in Adelaide last works hard on court and is always weekend. Congratulations to Jade hunting that intercept. She is a Ritter on 100 games. tough defender who always makes

North Gambier

A grade: North 64 v South 51 A tight tussle for most of the game saw South take it to North for the first half. A blood rule saw Lauran Norman take the court and again continued to prove herself as a promising junior player. Caroline Davey and Ellen Brown were instrumental in the quick moving ring. Mel Renko was steady delivering the ball into our goalies and was a steady hand down the court. When Maddie Whaites is on her toes, any GS find it difficult to find the ball. It was good to see a strong 3rd quarter, something the team has been working towards. Things to improve for next week’s tight game before a well earnt week off. Best players: Maddie Whaites (Fasta Pasta) and Lauren Buddle (Nourish Nook)

A res: North 78 v South 29 North came out firing and we able to take a strong lead going into the quarter time break. South were shooting accurately and managed to win some defensive ball. North were able to pressure South in the second quarter to make some errors in attack and through the midcourt. North were able to convert these turnovers and maintain a healthy lead going into half time. The second half looked similar to the first with North creating defensive pressure all down the court. They moved the ball with speed and relative ease. South had a strong last quarter; however, North were able to play to the last whistle convincingly. Best players: Alicia Close (Nourish Nook) and Maddie Stegmyer (Federal Hotel) B grade: North 35 v South 46 Another good start against South, we really took it to them. The game then became quite physical and we were unable to sustain it. There were patches of great netball in there with some tight defence and awesome passes into the goalies (some bullet like from Ash Whan) Consistency is key for us I think so let’s go out there and work on that this week. Best players: Alice Tynte (Zambrero) and Ash Whan (Federal Hotel) C grade: North 50 v South 41 I’m so proud of the girls, a fantastic team win. We started strong, South put the defensive pressure on, but we kept our cool. Even with multiple changes, we stuck to our game cemented a 9 goal win. Best players: Bailey Young (Sorrentos) and Zoe Rout (Nourish Nook) Under 17’s: North 32 v South 76 The girls fought hard all day in a tough match against quality opposition in South. Despite the score, the girls worked really hard to apply pressure all the way down the court and we saw some great feeding into our goalies in the circle. A great contribution for each of the girls, with each of them

Yellow & Black continuing to provide a lot of support and encouragement throughout which was great to see. Best players: Kasey White (Nourish Nook) and Zarly Jones (Federal Hotel) Under 15 A: North 44 v South 21 With a couple of new combinations to start with i found the girls adapted well. They found space and drove well. Once again, the defence took charge and kept South on their toes with a lot pressure on the ball. The mids drove perfectly and delivered the ball into Cara and Tenielle who were moving nicely. Half time saw Macey come on and convert at 100% accuracy, well done Mace. Best players: Ava Collins (The Roadhouse East) and Tora Jones (Federal Hotel) Under 15 B: North 23 v South 18 The Under 15b girls started very strong against a well match South side. The defensive pressure was outstanding by all girls out on the court, combining well to force turnovers. Our shooters, Sarah and Mia were on point, capitalising on all the girl’s hard work. Still a lot of things to work on, but overall very positive win. Best players: Summer Mackereth (Fasta Pasta) and Allegram Holtham (Fasta Pasta) Under 13 A: North 56 v South 10 The girls played a settled game today with no changes to positions. We were able to work on specifics each quarter in their set position which was great for progression. Awesome defensive game by everyone. Best players: Maggie Collins (Fasta Pasta) and Kelsie Anderson (Lip Gloss) Under 13 B: North 39 v South 3 Under 13B's had a strong team game against South. The girls have come a long way and are continuing to develop week in week out. Saturday's game was a reflection of this, with each individual putting in 100% and showing versatility in all positions. As coaches we are very proud of the girls and their developing season. Best players: Sophie Cary (Federal Hotel) and Lacey Allen (Federal Hotel) Under 11’s: North 14 v South 21 Well what a great game today with improvements shown by you all. Our spacing is getting better but we still need to focus on our leading in front and passing to a player. Hard to pick only two best players today but great improvement was show by Ava and Indiana well Done. Best players: Ava Halloran (Jolley Soles) and Indianna Renko (Jolley Soles) 100 junior games: Stella Mobbs and Cara Nulty 50 junior games: Milly Allen
