SOUTH GAMBIER v CASTERTON SANDFORD NORTH GAMBIER v MILLICENT EAST GAMBIER v WEST GAMBIER

GAME PREVIEW North Gambier v Millicent The 2022 Bendigo Bank Western Border Football League season is flying by and the halfway mark has already been crossed which means teams will be striving for success ahead of the June long weekend bye. The closest and biggest game on the cards will take place at Vansittart Park where North Gambier hosts Millicent. The Tigers have threatened to overcome one of the top two teams this year, but have fallen just short. The latest near miss occurred at Blue Lake Sports Park last week where wet weather and a resurgent South Gambier stole it late in the day. After winning the early battle for possession, North would be disappointed to let it slip with a goalless second half and the complete fourquarter performance continues to evade Ben Hardy’s team. With gritty characters like Nick McInerney and jake Schutz in top form, the Tigers are a team that does not stop fighting and their next opponent has plenty of recent experience in that area. The Saints have emerged from a couple of lowscoring scraps against some desperate teams victorious and ready for another bruising battle. Conditions and a contested style of football forced Millicent to dig deep and edge out West Gambier and Casterton Sandford. Amid the tense finales, the experienced heads of Jacob Carger and Dylan Bromley remained cool under pressure to get their team over the line, while the back six has also been working overtime and has developed a reputation conceding the least number of points. With North desperate to land a big scalp before the break, the Saints may need to find some more resolve to secure another fighting win. Despite the prospect of backing up after a series of tough games, Millicent coach Clint Gallio is confident his team can throw it all on the line once again. “We have not had any injuries because we have had a few good weeks on the track and we will do that again to get everyone right,” he said.

THOMAS MILES - SE VOICE

“We always look forward to playing North because they have a good core group that has been together for a while and they set up well which spurs the rest of the team along. “So we will try to shape up against the best we can, but it is always a great contest against North.” East Gambier v West Gambier With both sides on near identical percentages and drifting away from the top four, East and West Gambier need to enter the mid-year bye on a high. The Bulldogs will still be wondering how they let last week’s Casterton Sandford game slip after enjoying a 46-point lead midway through the third term. After dominating the clearances and Mark Rumbelow smoking inside 50, East appeared unstoppable, but suddenly ran out of juice in the second half. The loss only heightens the importance of this home game, but at least the Bulldogs can turn to their previous clash with the Roos as inspiration. West has shown it can challenge the best in the WBFL, but this needs to start being reflected on the ladder and a third straight defeat would mean the team is starting to lose touch with the top four. But through a surge led by Lawry Bradley-Brown and Michael Minuzzo almost toppled the Saints and if the Roos want to challenge these teams at the pointy end, they need to capitalise on these fixtures. South Gambier v Casterton Sandford Casterton Sandford believes it can achieve anything – including beating South Gambier – after its miracle on grass last Saturday. Despite getting smashed in the clearances, the Cats turned it around from nowhere which sent a warning to the competition they can achieve anything. New recruit Alastair McCrae stunned with six goals, while the likes of Jack Thompson and Cody Ireland still on the sidelines, Casterton Sandford can still improve, but a big test awaits and coach Kane Forbes knows it. “We all believe our best is good enough to match it with anyone, so the challenge is to

F.L. bridge the gap between the good and bad,” he said. “So just making sure we are more consistent for longer periods of time and no doubt that will be a challenge because South will be a really good benchmark test for us. “Hopefully we can improve on our first effort against them and we could be potentially changing the side with a couple of players coming back which creates a bit of competitiveness for spots which will hold us in good stead going forward.” The Demons are in a strong spot and the returns of Brett O’Neil and Mason Hein were big boosts behind the comeback over North. South has bounced back well from the setback against Millicent to return to the top of the ladder and another win over the Cats will keep the ship sailing smoothly ahead of the bye. Demons’ coach Brayden Kain said the returns breathed new life into the team and he is looking forward to seeing what Casterton Sandford has in store. “It was good to have Mason giving us first use in the ruck and Brett running through the midfield because it put some confidence back into the group,” he said. “The fact they got through unscathed is a really pleasing sign as we build up to the Casterton clash and after the disappointing loss to Millicent we had three boxes going into the midseason bye and we have one more to tick. “But to Casterton’s credit because they have had an incredible couple of weeks and certainly will have us on our toes again. “ The challenge is certainly going to be there for the boys.”

South Gambier Red & White On a wintry May day we took on North Gambier at BLSP. While it's fair to say there's no love lost between our 2 clubs we hold North Gambier in high regard both on and off the field. North started quickly in the senior game controlling the midfield and leaving the forward line open with good targets to hit up, With most of the play with the opponents South were fortunate to be only 3 points down at quarter time. The second quarter saw the balance of play similar to the first with North edging ahead through midfield control. A late goal to Mitchell Sims was crucial to South staying in touch and only going in to the main break 9 points down. Playing only his second game for the year after a serious R1 injury our big ruckman Mason Hein started to find touch in the third quarter and his efforts were vital in the home team establishing dominance. A 4 point last break lead extended slightly in the final stanza to 8 points, a hard fought win against a well-matched opponent. Best players were Mason Hein, James Paprotny, Mitchell Harrold, Emerson Marks, Mitchell Sims and Alex Harknesss. Of special note is that our U18 contingent (of which there were

V

6 in the senior team) kicked 5 of the 8 goals scored. This highlights how important our junior program is to the club.

In the reserves South managed 13 goals to 2 to win comfortably. Best players were Jackson Meyer, Sam McTaggart, Duncan Reid, Luke Foran, Elliott Fisher and Chris Williams. The U18 game was tighter than the scores at 79-33 indicated. Best players were Nicholas Adams, Harry Mitchell, Ethan Sims, Harry Fisher, Jack Domaschenz and Nick Wilke. The U16 game was 51-16 in our favour (best players Lachlan Ray, Cayde Watson, Angus Urquhart, Lewis Sigley and Addison Sims) and the U14 game 39-20 (best players Ella Guest, Mason Ropitini, Lachlan Cameron, Jack Walmsley and Brody Fox). This week we have the 1992 senior and reserve flags, 1997 senior and reserve flags and 2002 senior flag reunion. Festivities will commence 6pm Friday night at the club with drinks and supper, speeches from coaches and viewing of replays. Saturday will feature games against our 1992 opponent Casterton with a President's luncheon for all to enjoy.

MILLICENT

North Gambier Yellow & Black It was day of near enough, but not good enough across most grades last week v South. With South on top of all grades it was always going to be a tough day, but the results show that we have improved across the board, which is heartening for all involved.

V

Danny Poyner, Ethan Norman, Sam Shepherd & Josh Hough.

The U18s game was reasonably competitive until the last ¼. Some regular names took out the best player awards in Brodie Allen, Zach Nulty, Reece McLaughlin, Aaron Dally, Brady Dethmore and Richard Kinyabugma.

Hopefully South have a plan to spend some of their money on lights as while the day started bright enough, when the weather came in it was very difficult to see during the seniors.

The U16s game followed much of the same script as the other games, being only 6 points down at ½ time, but falling away towards the end. Best players were named Trae Hamilton, C o n g r a t u l a t i o n s t o J u s t i n Brodie Anderson, Aaron Dally, McConnell on his 150 games. Jonty Collins and Bowen Rogers. A couple of close exciting games in the senior grades at West last Saturday. The Seniors copped the worst of the weather which resulted in a low scoring dour affair. The Saints held a slender lead throughout the day with West h i tt i n g t h e l e a d m i d way through the final quarter, but it was pleasing to see the boys tough it out to kick 2 late goals and take the win. It was great to see Hamish Nitschke back on the field after a 12 month layoff from a knee injury, and he showed what an asset he will be for us across the second half of the year. Guinny and Tinks were solid as usual down back and Bomma defied the wet conditions to be a strong focal point up forward. The Ressies enjoyed bright and sunny conditions and were able to run over the top of West after going in to the final quarter a couple of goals down. Youngsters in Nick Joy and Aussie Fuller led the way with their run across the four quarters after backing up from the U18’s, Dylan Shanks keeps getting better each week and Bud Davies showed the kind of footy he is capable of playing. The U18’s had a good win over a determined West and were only able to kick away in the final quarter. Alex Wez led the goal kickers with 3 and better players were Nick Joy, Jaxon Cushion, Ashton Lindner, Tallan Dunn and Jack O’Leary. The U16’s got up in a close one. Beau Douglas kicked 3 and

Another close game in the U14’s but in the result was in Wests favour this time. Cash Kenny and Campbell Hateley kicked 2 each and the better players were Lenny Tunkin, Will Jennings, Alannah Pratt, Teej Lawlor, Noah Cebulski and Naite Thomson. Congratulations to Brad Tilley who plays his 250th club game today. Brad was a main stay of the Senior side for many years before some injuries and an early retirement led him to find a new passion in ultramarathon running. After running out of places to run, Brad has returned to the Ressies this year and has been a welcome addition to the team. Races Night tonight back at the footy club. $5 entry, six race card, fashions on the field and a VIP enclosure. Make sure you get along and support what is sure to be a great night.

The seniors was 2 games in one, the 1st half we played some of our best footy for the year to be 34 points up at the h a l f, I d o n ' t k n o w w h a t happened at the half time break but we came out and played no where near what we did in the first half to be out scored 11 goals to 2 in what was very disappointing for all.

Well done on Jack Lawrence playing his first senior game U16's was a close hard fought the way he played there will be game til the last quarter when many more to come. our lads kicked away and s e c u r e d a g r e a t w i n b y On some news this week we 13points best players were Tex will be wearing 2 arm bands 1 Tilley, Nicholas Bignell, Trae for premiership player Jock Wilke, Campbell McClean and O’Brien and the other for our Kyan Chittleborough . first premiership coach and player Fred Hepner. Last week we played the Millicent saints, with all games going down to the wire. The first 4 games being played in superb weather and the poor old seniors copping the brunt of the rain. The rain made for a hard slog with the saints prevailing and winning in the dying minutes of the game.

They first draw of the 200 club has been drawn with B Flood and K Medhurst taking the win. The chance to get your horse for the Malseed cup is coming to a close, so get your nomination in now.

This week see us play the East bulldogs at the Kennel with the weather forecast not looking great.

MATCH REPORTS CASTERTON SANDFORD V EAST GAMBIER Reigning premiers East Gambier are nothing if not resilient, bouncing back from their round seven loss to South with a comprehensive victory over Casterton Sandford despite having three of its star ng seven sidelined. With no Amryn Bosko and Sarah Lock, the usual A Reserve shoo ng combina on of Renee Henke and Casey Horrigan took to the A Grade court, both having already filled in a couple of mes this season, and got the job done. Their opening quarter of 15 from 18 set the tone for the contest as they received good supply from Kate Dempsey and Emily Hunter as the makeshi frontline s ll found good connec on. Captain Tarsh McCallum was the other star ng seven choice on the sidelines, taking the opportunity to rest her legs ahead of a half marathon the following day. For the Cats, a lack of supply was the issue despite the hard running of Scarle Jarrad and by half me it was a 21 goal deficit for the home side. Casterton Sandford injected the fresh legs of Chloe Foster for the third quarter but it turned out to be the Bulldogs’ best, pu ng the result beyond doubt. Henke and Horrigan were unstoppable, ne ng 20 from 22 to put the result beyond doubt. Cats defenders Caeleigh Humphries and Ebany Jarrad were certainly doing their best to deny the East shooters me and space but the issue was the ball just kept coming back and the strong driving and crea ve feeding of Hunter con nued to find Henke and Horrigan in good shoo ng posi on. In the end, the 40 goal margin elevated East Gambier back into the top four but they will be hoping the second half of the season brings some con nuity for the reigning premiers, who are yet to put their preferred seven out on court for any length of me in 2022. SOUTH GAMBIER V NORTH GAMBIER In the end, it was all about accuracy in the

clash between South Gambier and North Gambier with the Tigers avenging their Anzac Day loss with an eight goal victory. Caroline Wakefield ne ed 44 from 45, mossing only one shot in the early stages of the final quarter, while Macey Griffith showed great composure to convert 18 from 22. South had the be er of the opening quarter with the new look defensive line of Ellie Bouchier and Imogen Walker crea ng plenty of turnover ball but some unforced errors in transi on and inaccurate finishing in the shoo ng circle, combined with North’s perfect shoo ng record for the quarter, saw the home side only one clear at the first change. Lara Munro was forced from the court with the blood rule early in the second, forcing a quick reshuffle for the Demons with Walker moving to goals and Ellie Bouchier combining with mother Brandi to try and ra le the Tigers front line. It was a goal for goal quarter and set up a tense second half, where Munro returned to the court and Walker moved back to the defensive end. Li le separated the two sides gain as Mel Renko picked up turnover ball me and me again, while Bouchier and Walker also earned some cri cal touches and at three quarter me, North held a three goal lead. On Anzac Day it was the Demons who were composed but this me round, it was the Tigers building on their lead. Renko kept picking up intercep ons, Brianna Walters used her speed to great effect and fed Wakefield with precision and with the North shoo ng duo conver ng 17 from 19, the scoreboard remained in the Tigers favour. Munro remains the focal point of the South shoo ng circle, while Alyssa Duncan was instrumental in transi on and se ng up the a acking third play, while Walker is always an asset in any posi on on the court. It sets up an intriguing third round clash between the two, with neither having pout out their preferred seven in either of the two clashes.

DENTON’S

WEST GAMBIER V MILLICENT It was tough, it was physical and it was played in less than ideal condi ons in the second half and West Gambier and Millicent now sit at one apiece for the 2022 season with West Gambier adap ng to the wet and windy condi ons of the second half be er than the Saints to secure a two goal victory. Millicent got the be er of the opening quarter as the mid court of Lisa Duldig, returning from her knee injury, and Paige Nitschke were able to get plenty of ball into shooters Tabatha Sanderson and Demi Verbena, and with the star duo sharing the shoo ng responsibili es, the West defensive line seemed unable to shut down the opportuni es. Sanderson ne ed 11 from 12 and Verbena eight from 11 as Millicent worked its way to a three goal advantage. As expected pre-match, Sarah Ri er was the focal point of the Roos a ack and in the end, she shot 42 of West’s 58 goals, staying on court despite tweaking a knee, which now looks set to sideline her for at least two or three rounds. Ri er’s connec on with Mikaela Horrigan proved irresis ble with Horrigan hi ng the circle hard and using her height advantage to great effect and Ri er holding space strongly and finishing accurately. Millicent had an equally strong connec on in their a ack end as their trademark speed of ball and precise feeding saw Verbena and Sanderson again with plenty of scoring opportuni es and the lead was six by the half. West clearly went to work in the long break to tweak their defensive effort and it worked, restric ng the Saints to 14 a empts for the quarter with a more relentless a en on to applying pressure and by the final change the scores were all ed up at 46 apiece. The final quarter saw the worst of the condi ons and it was a tense arm wrestle with both sides having trouble transi oning with any convic on and in the end Ri er’s accuracy proved the difference with her 10 from 11 seeing West over the line by two.

ROUND PREVIEWS SOUTH GAMBEIER V CASTERTON SANDFORD Having let last weekend’s clash with North Gambier slip, the Demons will be looking to stay in touch with the top four with a win over Casterton Sandford this weekend. South will welcome Grace Edwards back to the defensive circle and with Ellie Bouchier in good form, it will make for a tough a ernoon for the Madalene Cleary-led Cats shoo ng combina on. At the other end of the court, the clash with Alyssa Duncan, who sets up much of South’s a acking play, and athle c defender Caeleigh Humphries will be one of the most pivotal clashes of the contest, while the job of containing star shooter Lara Munro will fall top Charlo e Rice or Ebany Jarrad and the Cats will remember well Munro’s stunning second half last me the two met when she pulled the game out of the fire for the Demons. Scarle Jarrad is another key player for the Cats and her ba le with Megan Reid looms large, while Tess Marra has been dominant at wing defence for Casterton Sandford and she will be looking to pressure the South feeders into errors. On their home court, the Demons should prevail. NORTH GAMBIER V MILLICENT The match of the round sees North

Gambier hos ng Millicent – the Tigers looking to build on its last round victory over South Gambier and the Saints looking to rebound from a narrow loss to West Gambier. Caroline Wakefield and Macey Griffith were outstanding for the Tigers last weekend, finding plenty of ball and finishing accurately and they will need to be prolific again when they take on Por a McRae and Hannah Nitschke. At the other end, Mel Renko was the standout at goal defence for North Gambier at the weekend and her ba le with Demi Verbena, who feeds Tabatha Sanderson so well, will be the key match up of the clash. The mid courts are all about speed with Brianna Walters, Ash Kalantarian, Libby Howe-Morgan and Lauran Norman taking on Lillie Paul, Lisa Duldig, Georgia Clark and Lisa Duldig and it will be the defensive efforts that decide who wins this ba le as tams look to slow that ball movement and pressure the delivery into their respec ve tall shooters. Millicent rarely drop two in a row and despite the fact North always seems to challenge the Saints, they will have to se le for a narrow loss. EAST GAMBIER V WEST GAMBIER We s t G a m b i e r w i l l b e f u l l o f confidence a er a nailni ng win over Millicent and despite missing Sarah Ri er with a knee injury should be able

to take the victory over reigning premiers East Gambier. West has been a se led line-up for most of the season and will no doubt insert Claire Hunter into the shoo ng role, given who well she fared last me in the top grade, while East has been anything but se led. With the excep on of Emily Hunter and Morgan Amy, the Bulldogs have resembled a patchwork quilt as they have had to cover injury, player unavailability and COVID absences and with Sarah Lock s ll under an injury cloud, it is unlikely they will have their preferred star ng seven again this weekend. Hunter con nues to be important in the mid court, as does Tarsh McCallum and Bo Creek and Amy have been solid in defence, combining well with Tyne Bosko to make scoring tough for opposi on teams but that smooth connec on that comes with playing together week a er week has affected East’s ability to find life easy at the a acking end of the court, where Jade Ri er and Amy Cram will be only too happy to create turnovers and use the speed of Tara Bryant, Zoe Malseed and Mikaela Horrigan to transi on. West should win comfortably as East looks to hang onto fourth in the hope they can come home with a wet sail.

South Gambier Red & White A mixed bag of results against North Gambier but perhaps the highlight was the 11 & Under girls scoring 30 goals – by far their highest score this season and over the past three seasons.

Casterton-Sandford Blue, White & Red

The Casterton-Sandford Netball sides took on the East Gambier sides at Island Park last weekend. It was a great day out with a few success stories to tell, and a few unfortunate losses.

SENIORS: Our A Grade side once again had a tough game going down 22-62, with stand-out players Caeleigh, Scarlett & Madalene. The A Reserves hoping to get a win after the close draw with East at their first meeting, unfortunately lost 35-41. Mikayla, Sharna, Claire, Lauren & Ivy all played extremely well. Emma, Katie & Kerri led their team to victory in the B Grade having a convincing win 44-28. C Grade players in Janine, Brittany, Kim & Michelle made great plays down the court, but unfortunately the East girls’ speed caught them off guard finishing the game with a losing score line 22-65. What a game to watch in the Under 17’s! With Ebany, Ivy, Chloe & Marissa executing every pass with communication and perfect timing, the girls were able to run away with a win of 60-33.

it out against the young & talented East players. Under 15A’s Indi, Brydie, Amy & Chelsea never gave up and encouraged their team right until the end. Unfortunately they lost 22-24. We once again saw Brydie & Indi in the Under 15B’s, and along with Caitlyn & Mia they took some great intercepts to come away with a narrow win 36-35. The Under 13A side had key players in Makayla, Marlee & Phoebe. Despite each player doing their absolute best, East snuck in front leaving our girls with a close loss 23-24. Chloe & Ylana made an impression in the Under 13B’s, helping their team stretch out their leading margin all game, to end with a 2611 win. The Under 11’s this week were all smiles when the scoreboard read a 17-10 win at the end of the game. Sienna & Bridey did a terrific job of their passing all game and should be extremely proud.

JUNIORS: Goodluck to everyone for the next Our juniors this week had some round back across the border! really close games as they battled

North Gambier Yellow & Black Under 11’s North 8 vs South 30 The girls had an excellent strong start, the best this season!! They confidently moved the ball through the centre and made great leads in the goal circle. A few changes at half time saw our younger players have a go in new position. Even with a loss, the girl’s spirit was high, they had strong voices and played well as a team. And most importantly they had smiles on their faces & had fun. Best players: Isla Clarke and Frankie Wakefield (sponsored by Lennons) Under 13A’s North 46 vs South 5 Our team had to adjust quickly after finding out on Friday evening that Zoe Davison sustained a buckle fracture of the wrist and therefore unable to play. We played a decent game of netball. Although we won the game, it appeared a bit disorganised and scrappy at times. However, after setting some goals for ourselves, the girls retained focus and finished well. We once again got reminded how crucial it is to stick to the basics, which includes strong passes and coming forward to meet the ball. Best players: Raine Darmaani and Mischa Human Under 13B’s North 27 vs South 13 We played good netball today and worked well as a team. Jenna Baron was strong in GA and formed a good goalie combination with Carey Grivell. It was a full court effort, from GK to GS, everyone worked hard. We used our centre passes effectively. Tayah Jones, Ava Halloran and Amelie Adams played well together in defence while Mackenzie, Piper managed the mid court. Unfortunately, Lacey Hunter was sick and unable to play this game. Overall, a better performance that will build our confidence as we prepare for the game next week against Millicent. Best players: Ava Halloran (sponsored by Halloran Diesel) and Carey Grivell (sponsored by 3MP) Under 15 A’s North 67 vs South 15 A rocky start saw North caused to tighten up their game very quickly. Settling early allowed North take control and set in motion their team goals. With many changes to positions each week, it’s a credit to the girl’s versatility and dedication to the team. Ava Collins had an outstanding game in defense, assisting Ruby Mitchell to take intercepts or strong rebounds. Maggie Collins continues to make tight drives to the circle and provide nice feeds to our goalers. Cara Nulty shot comfortably with Elodie Adam and Macey Griffith and was thrown in numerous positions again. Sarah Brown did her job and continues to on feedback and improve her game each week. It’s great to have Jayme Young back on the court after breaking her elbow and recovering from Covid. We hope Kelsie Anderson has a quick recovery because she has been playing outstanding defense. We direct all our focus on shutting down Millicent and relish the pressure next week will bring. Best players: Maggie Collins (sponsored by Innovation Leisure) and Ava Collins Under 15 B’s North 34 vs South 18 A great win girls with a full team effort. First week with 10 players and you all played your part. We had some great passages of play from defence to attack. Penny, Claire and Milly worked hard down in defence with some accurate shooting by Mia, Megan and Claire. Bella found herself in WD for the first time this season and worked hard. Our mid courters Tora, Summer and Lily were led well by Tillie who fed so well to the goalies. Well done girls, another test on the way this week with Millicent but if we train hard, we will get the result. Best players: Tillie McEachern (sponsored by Gavin J McEachern) and Mia Dyson

Millicent Red, Black & White

Under 17’s North 22 vs South 63 South were again a force to be reckoned with. The girls started off strong turning over South’s first couple of centre passes, transitioning it well into our attack line. However, we didn’t manage to convert them. By the end of the first quarter South already had a strong lead, and the scoreboard pressure meant we had to slightly change our game plan. Despite the score, we set targets to aim for and worked hard to achieve them. Unfortunately, it wasn’t our strongest game, but there were many passages of play that showed what we are capable of. In attack, we just need to steady the ball and ensure we are balanced when releasing the pass. We also need to make sure we are choosing the best option. Defensively we need to block the drive and slow the opposition’s transition, so we are not putting our teammates under unnecessary pressure. Best players: Lauran Norman and Coco Mackereth

C Grade North 28 vs South 50 This weeks game started with a very tough first half. South were playing a very quick game and despite the defensive pressure from North, they crept away with the lead. However North came out firing for the second half - Georgia a n d Ke e l ey wo r ke d t h e go a l c i rc l e exceptionally well, the defenders made it challenging for the South attack picking up lots of intercepts and overall, the ball moving much more freely down the court. While the score wasn’t in our favour, the effort that the girls brought to the second half made for a very competitive game of netball. Best players: Georgia Wehrmann and Rebecca Johnson

A Reserve Millicent 68 def West 54 Best Players- Alana Craig & Daisy Tunkin Fantastic team effort over four quarters. The girls were lucky to play in dry conditions and the midcourt were able to use their speed to work the ball to Kate and Annelise who finished accurately. Defensively we worked hard t create turnovers and our transition down the court was good. Well done girls.

13As Millicent 48 def West 10 Best Players- Jeda Hibberd & Emily Denton A great start and display of team work in some slippery conditions. We produced some strong defence and backing up each other all over the court to create many options for attack. We also showed some great passing by our midcourters into our goalies.

B Grade Millicent 62 def West 21 Best Players- Jemma Hayward & Nicole Domachenz We started strong but West were in for a fight today and made us earn our possessions early on. We adjusted and started utilising the ball, being 14 up at half time. Positional changes were made which saw us work harder defensively and make the most of scoring opportunities. Adjusting our game play to suit the weather conditions also helped and we finished strongly, to win by 40 goals. Well done to all players, thank you to Michelle, Heather and Kristy for your constant support and help week after week.

13Bs Millicent 30 def West 19 Best Players - Ella Matthews & Imogen Hales It was a tough game against west, with only seven girls from our full team playing! However, everyone put in 100% effort and worked hard! Amarlie and Indi were accurate under the post, and Courtney and Ella’s feeds were wonderful with the use of their vision! Imogen and Lindy worked hard in defence, displaying their versatility and Lainie pulled in many rebounds and was strong in the air! Thanks to Scarlett and Lucy for sitting bench, and the girls know what to take into the game next week.

B Grade North 45 vs South 44 Wow! What an intense game, South certainly gave it to us. We were lucky enough to come out with the win by just only 1 goal. Going into the last quarter down we were 4 goals down, but the girls were able to reset and adjust our play to the wet conditions. It was an excellent team effort, well done girls. Best players: Brianna Lush and Amelia Redman A Reserve North 53 vs South 51 A reserve this week were short on numbers, but it was a great opportunity to have some capable juniors play in our side. It was a tough match going goal for goal for most of the game, however we were able to hold on to the lead in the end. The girls were able to maintain their composure in the last quarter and it was great to see the confidence of our junior players grow throughout the game. Best players: Amanda O’Shaughnessy and Elyse Willoughby A Grade North 62 vs South 54 We knew it was going to be a close game, with the two teams closely matched on the court and the ladder. It was goal for goal in the first half, with south going up by a few at half time. The weather changed and North were able to play better wet weather netball, more slowly and composed. Mel Renko dominated on defence and Caroline Wakefield missed one goal the whole game. Alysha Coon made her A grade debut and did a great job rebounding strongly. Lauren Norman played on the wing in attack and her movement got better as the game went on. North we able to win comfortably in the last quarter, valuing the ball and connecting better on the wet conditions Best players: Lauran Norman and Alysha Coon (sponsored by K&S)

Congratulations to all teams for playing some great netball against some strong West teams today and for some teams surviving wet!

11s Millicent 23 def West 10 Best players- Hope Wilson, Brydie Douglas & Zarla Thomson A great team effort from everyone with the girls adapting well to all the position changes. The girls worked hard to get in front of their players which seen us get the opportunity to score goals. Defense got their hands to many 17s Millicent 68 def West 23 balls which helped reflect the score. Best Players - Ella Easterby & Lauren Thank you to Bridie and Zarla for van Eeden filling in this week. We showed a good four quarter effort, with injuries and sickness going through the team. Great start with high scoring quarters and great defensive pressure which continued to build throughout the game. Looking forward to more growth throughout the season.

C Grade Millicent 47 def West 42 Best Players - Claudia Pratt & Nicola Batten Goal for goal tough game with west putting up a strong fight. The girls didn’t drop their heads the whole game and continued to work hard. Just some basic skill let us down.

East Gambier Red & Black A GRADE - East 62 defeated Casterton 22 With our attack line up missing, what a fantastic game we played with our A res girls filling in and stepping up. We can really begin to see what we have put into practice at training. Good ball moment and patience down the court. Everyone one put in a solid 4 quarters which was great to see. We still need to work on minimising our small errors as this week will be tough going up against West. Best Players – Renee Henke & Emily Hunter Awards – Emily Hunter (Nourish Nook) Renee Henke (Zambrero’s) A RES – East 41 defeated Casterton 35 Casterton got the lead on us early, but we were able to finish with a good three quarters to bring home a good win. Our defensive pressure all over the court has been our strength the last few games, and if we continue to work on capitalising on them, we will be a hard team to beat. Good work girls. Best Players – Renee Henke & Chloe Perryman Awards – Renee Henke (Gym Challenge Meals) Chloe Perryman (Zambrero’s) B GRADE – East 28 lost to Casterton 44 Well done girls, we kept with them in the first half, again with players missing. Excellent defensive work, pressure and creating turnover. Attackers just need to trust in each other and deliver the ball when it's on. Let's train hard together and bring it for 4 quarters next week. Best Players – Amy Feast & Sophie McLean Awards – Tayla Waters (Gym Challenge Meals) Sophie McLean (Fasta Pasta) C GRADE – East 65 defeated Casterton 22 What a cracker game. Ruby and Lucy came out firing with multiple interceptions while the attack end showed a nice clean game. Eryn coming on at half time proved she was ready to play with 8 interceptions in the final. Best Players – Eryn Caruso & Lucy Davis Awards – Ruby Jacobs (Creek Livestock) Lucy Davis (San Piero) 17’s – East 33 lost to Casterton 60 We didn’t have a great start but once we got into it we played well. We kept the court nice and open and everyone was aware of where they needed to be. Defensively we did a good job, both down the court and in their shooting circle. Unfortunately, Casterton finished better than us and that was the only difference. Our passing again was not the best, putting the ball to the hands of our opposition. Let’s work on these little things and our game will turn. Best Players –Chloe Lines & Jordy Davis Awards – Jordy Davis (Natural Born Grillers) Lilli Spooner (McDonalds)

15A’s – East 24 defeated Casterton 22 Outstanding effort by this group of girls. Turnover after turnover in the defensive end and a high percentage execution rate in the attack end. A hard fought 4 quarters, with minimal errors led the girls to a 2 point win over a very tough Casterton side. Our mid court kept the intensity through the course of the game and controlled the ball to our benefit. Not much more could have been asked and it’s great to see the improvement of all individuals come to fruition each week. Best Players – Lilly McIntosh & Abby Lines Awards – Tahlia Geraghty (Kaboom) Abby Lines (Bakers Delight) 15B’s – East 35 lost to Casterton 36 The girls got off to a firing start against a tough Casterton side. After a close win i n t h e 1 5 A’s t h e y ke p t u p t h e momentum going into the second game. Even with a few changes throughout the course of the game the team stayed united and put in the hard yards. An excellent effort from our goalies using every opportunity to score whilst our defensive end made a huge difference by picking up majority of the rebounds. Overall, we are proud of the girls for continuing through to the end with only a 1 point loss. Best Players –Millie Button & Sharni Clark Awards – Cedar Scott (Scroll Queen) Sharni Clark (Cophenhagen) 13A’s – East 24 defeated Casterton 23 What a fantastic game to watch, you should all be very proud of all the hard work your putting in both on and off the court. West Gambier

Our sunny morning for the juniors turned into a very wet afternoon for the seniors, well done to the girls playing in awful conditions. Congratulations goes to Ellie Xanthopolous and Hayley Cowie who played their 100TH club game last weekend.

U/11 The young roos got off to a great start against the Saints last Saturday. We had some great passages of play which resulted in some excellent goals. It's great to see our goal shooting has improved. Millicent we're too good in the end but the girls should be very proud of the performance. West 10 – Millicent 23 Best players Pheobe Bonney Dawson and Mackenzie Fisher 13B An amazing game, we came out and hit them hard and matched them throughout the whole game, everyone on the court gave 100% till the last minute. The final scores not a reflection of how much our girls have improved, the confidence and abilities were shown in their skills this week against a hard Millicent. Our defence making it hard for them to score throughout the game. The mid court working so well together putting pressure on Millicent centre passes. The goalies moving brilliantly and followed up any misses. A week to be proud all around despite the score. The whole team showing amazing movement and incredible skill to hold M i l l i c e n t l i ke t h e y d i d . We l l d o n e 13Bs.Special thanks to Libby for sitting on the bench this week!! West 19 – Millicent 30 Best players Eva Povey and Claire Hunter Game day awards Claire Hunter and Ella McKenny 13A After watching the girls improve over the last few weeks we had a disappointing game against a very polished Millicent side. Hopefully next time, with a full side and less distractions we can have our minds on the job and put into practice what we have learnt. Keep working hard girls, I have no doubt it will pay off. West 10 – Millicent 48 Best players Lila Pearson and Alice Allen Game day awards - Alice Allen and Analeigh Anderson 15B Saturday saw the girls take the court against a strong Millicent side which resulted in a super close game in which the crowd got quite vocal. This weeks special mention goes to Macy Pearson who showed us exactly why she is a defender on our team working closely with Zarah to consistently defend and show great team leadership. Our mid court worked tirelessly to move the ball down our end where the attacks had to use a lot of agility to move in and around the Millicent defenders. We look forward to coming up against this team again later in the season to see what else we can do. West 27 – Millicent 27 Best players Maya Lynch and Demi Jennings 15A The scoreboard didn’t really reflect the game that was played. Pleasing to see what we have been working on at training being implemented into the game, we know you girls can do it if we can just stay with what works! Keep working hard as we enter the 2nd half of the season!! Award winners today Ellie and Hayley, Also congratulations to Hayley and Ellie on 100 games today!! West 21 – Millicent 51 Best players Ellie Xanthopolous and Hayley

Blue & Red Cowie Under 17’s Going up against the top team is always a challenge. The Millicent under 17 girls play a standard of netball we need to strive for. My girls gave it their all and that’s all I can ask of them. I can see each week them all trying to do the things we work on at training and we are chipping away at the top teams. Most times the final score doesn’t represent what I see on the court on the day. Once again my defence had a tough day but Maddie, Hannah, Kirra, Jordy and Stevi put in a great effort and never give up. Aleisha worked well with Jordy and then Hannah in goals supported by Stevi and Halle. I want to thank Lucy and Alex from under 15A’s for helping us out as Covid struck our team again. They slotted into our team with ease. West 23 – Millicent 68 Best players Alex Hudson and Aleisha Pearson Game day awards Stevi Clayton and Jordy Hereper C Grade An outstanding game played by our C grade girls today. We really put into play everything we’ve been working so hard for and practicing. We felt great success in all four quarters and this is absolutely reflected in the score. Once again our shooters continue to amaze us shooting so effortlessly. Along with our defenders, reading the play so beautifully. It was thrilling to see so many turnovers from our brilliant mid-court. We are really pumped to see what we can achieve this weekend vs East! West 42 - Millicent 47 Best players Karli Earle and Alyssa Campbell B Grade The game started off great, with sun shining. The west girls were moving the ball fast and playing a steady game against Millicent. Unfortunately, when the rain started that’s when things started to get difficult. They tried their hardest to play a short and shiny game while pouring, but unfortunately couldn’t get away with the win. West – 21 – Millicent 62 Best players Kristy Dolan and Kellie Buck A Reserve The first 3 quarters had the girls with in reach of winning the game, with our defence getting as many turn over as they could. Unfortunately we dropped our heads in the last quarter, which then saw Millicent run away with it… West 54 – Millicent 68 Best players Anna Bosco and Chelsea Tremelling A Grade Firstly, shocking conditions to play netball but i am so proud of the way we adapted and played some brilliant wet weather netty. To secure the win was a bonus and just goes to show we are definitely heading in the right direction. Our attack was strong and patient all game and our defence just kept at it. We had no passengers and didnt allow anything to phase us. It's hard believe we are half way through the season. Keep training hard and playing our brand of netball!! West 58 – Millicent 56 Best players Sarah Ritter and Mikaela Horrigan Good luck to our teams this week against East. Keep your eye on the red and the blue! GO WEST!!
