Congratulations to Todd ‘Godra’ Craig on his 100 game milestone this week A loyal and valued team-mate/clubperson, get around him this weekend. He’ll happily tell you how sensational he is after a cuppla frothies While on the topic of guys that aren’t shy of calling it as they see it, Zac McGuiness and Kade Varcoe rack up 50 games each. Guinny and Gitta are pivotal for their skill and leadership in the senior structure. It’s great to see these gents reaching milestones over recent and coming weeks, having developed through our juniorprogramtobepillarsofthe club.
Good wins in both senior teams against the Roos last week keeps themomentumrolling.
In the Magoos, Dredgie Reilly finished with a handful and was named best afield Singles to Digga Duldig, Brad Tilley and Muzz O’Connor. Brad was named in the best as was Nat Robbins, Hammer Reilly (in his 150th to makeitmemorable),MattVarcoe and we welcomed back Eli Redmanforarunaround.

NBignellandCMcClean.
It might be coincidental, but the second half saw Dylan Tincknell moved into attack and presented strongly.Ourskillssharpenedand disposals were reaching their targets and players were able to move the ball into space. The 20 point deficit at half time was overcometoa6pointlead.
The final stanza saw the Saints run out the game a little stronger than the Roos. Clint Gallio and Frazer Bradley had plenty of the ball Frazer finished with five majors. He worked up and down the ground. The West defenders made it fairly tough for our designated forwards all day Cream Willis kicked 2 goals and singles to Chipper Williams (named in the best players), Matt Withers and Dyl Tincks Truck R e n z i i n t e r c e p t e d a n d counterpunched well along with Boxy Bradley to be named in the best, and were ably supported by the other four Fish Waring got some good touches in his first gameback.

With Our game this week against Casterton being the only u12 grade playing we had the opportunity to have a few players from the A's and C's join in with our team and had enough numbers to play a full oval game for the first time this season, this really allowed the team to play the controlled possession game we've been practicing with lots of room for them to spread out and be the next option. It was a hard fought contest with both teams producingsomegreatpassagesofplaythatreallywasfantasticto watch and the improvement by the whole team from week to week is so good to see! Best players this week were Lakyn Corcoran, Maison Roscow, Claire Flett, Riley Chapman, Digby Stevens and Mitch Allen Goals - Maison Roscow (+ 2 for Casterton)DigbyStevens,AbelMacintoshandRileyChapman.

On Saturday we welcomed Casterton Sandford to Vansittart Park While it wasn't warm, we didn't see much rain and some good f o o t y w a s p l a y e d throughouttheday
The cats are struggling in U14s, but good on them for turning up each week, and our players who helped make up the numbers. Most of our players got to experienceanewposition,a few scored their first goals fortheyear, whichwillstand them in good stead in coming weeks. Best players were Cooper Harris, Esai Kulimushi,CodyBlanck,Jack DysonandEthanBrook.
Toby de Wit had a weekend of highlights, but he will be feeling a lot better about his football highlights than his basketball. The cats hung tough before our big forwards sealed the game in the last quarter 7 goals wasn't enough for Toby to getbestplayer, thatgoingto one of our recruits in the v e r s a t i l e T y s o n Christopherson. Other awards went to Jake Schutz, Josh Jenner, Mitch Kelton andDaleBachmanm.
Another meeting this week regarding 2024 – there is a lot to be sorted our and confirmed, so please stay patient and stay tuned for further information and/or aclubmeeting.
Coach Zeitz lost of few to injury and sickness in the U16s during the week and while that didn't seem to hurt them early, it was a different story after ½ time, with the Cats far too good in the end. Hopefully that is the worst of the availability issues and we only get stronger from here. Cooper Turner is in a great patch of form, he was named best, followed by James Flett, Aaron Dally, Same Baron andAlexanderBruce. Comingevents
We have South at home this week, which will present a challenge across all grades, including the seniors after their first win last week. There is a bit of weather forecast, but plenty of shelter around the oval and Flettys fire will be running hot in the shed. See you there!

VIt was good to get back home after three weeks away and it was great tohaveourLifeMembersoutatthe club. It was a good day on the field with the Seniors picking up there first win with a great second half after starting the game with thirteen straight points. It was a great way to celebrate Cayde Watsons 1st game and also Taylor Saffins 100th and he put in a ripper to be 1st best, Oli Thompson, Hugh Winterfield and Kyle Jones for his first game this year, Rex Jones and Luke Foran were other better players and Kainy being the only multiplegoalscorerwithtwo.
The Ressies had a solid win and Elliott Fisher had a big day with seven, Willow four, Jamo and Huddy with two each. Best Players to Willow, Jamo, Elliott Fisher, captain Shaughn King, Gaz and Lloydo.
The Under 18's were solid again and are playing a team brand of footy Multiple goal scorers were Harry Fisher and Jed Sims with four and a couple of lads who moved up forward for the second half Connor Fielding with three and Sam Sims with two. Best players to Mitchell, Boston,Fielding,SamSims,Bannon andDomaschenz.
The Under 16's were good again and a big congratulations to Will Attiwill who has had a fantastic
start to the season and has been rewarded with a place in the Under 15 state team in Ballarat in July. Six goals to Emerson Forbes this week who is putting together a strong season, five to Will Attiwill, four to Jace Maxwell, better players Richter, Bentley, Forbes, Maxwell, BartlettandVause.
The 14's have been good since the first week loss to North and best players against East were McCracken, Kentish, Haggett, Cutting, McGregor and McTaggart and multiple goals kickers were Ropitini,McCrackenandCutting.
Just a reminder that there is still a lot of information to come around the restructure, there are a lot of people offering thoughts on travel and junior structures that are untrue and unhelpful. Please wait for the information to come from official channels on how the leagues, draws and junior structureswillwork.
This week we have the 100 club back at the club after the game, get outforwhatisalwaysafunnight.
Also time to start organising a table for the Red & Rump night with NorthAdelaide&Crowslegendand now media personality Andrew Jarman as our special guest on July 1.
Youngy was up and about with his reserves team this week, but unfortunately they didn't run out onto the field as he was hoping and again the start left much to be desired. This weeks positive was that we won thelast¼! Hopefullyweare on the other side of injuries which will strengthen the ressies in the weeks to come Awards this week were given to Nathan Tana, Tom Flett, Michael Blanck, Tyler Harris, Bradley NottleJustice&ShaunRichards.

Here we are Cat fans, back at Island Park, welcoming the Roos from the West, after a mixed bag of results from last weeks trip over thebordertonorth.
TheUnder16swereslowto start but once they got going they were able to put the cubbies to the sword, going from 21 points down at ¼ time to running out winners by 34 points Better players in a good team effort were Jedd Rhook, Dylan Munro, Oliver Foster, Samuel Patton, Archie Lane and Jack Wombwell. Jedd and Oliver got 3 goals each and Rankin Cleary was the other multiple goal scorer with2.
The Cats can get a gap in the top 4 if they can get over the Joeys this week and if they can move the ball they way they did last week, lookout!
The Reserves flew out of the box and didn't look back, getting their first win for the year, Josh Searle led the way with five goals which was a great effort as the veteran is carrying a few injuries but with his mate Kurzo out of the way for a bit , made himself at home in front of the big sticks Talking about big sticks, Andrew Russell also showed a bit of form and was named in the best along with Kaneo Forbes, JarradSmith,HamishCarlin and young gun Thomas Searle. Bradley Millard was a welcome inclusion and joined Searle Snr as a multiplegoalscorerwith2.
TheUnder14'sgivetheirall every week and it's a shame they can't get a full
list every week, but they had a crack against North that'sforsureandgotafew goals on the board with multiple goal scorers being Nate Longhurst and Jaggar Geary, they were also namedinthebetterplayers along with Billy Rhook, Takudzwa Makore and ZavierCates.
The seniors will take the bitter pill from last weeks game, swallow and move on to the Roos this weekend. President Ayton and skipper Cleary led the way last week and were named in the best along with Michael Krieger, Hamish McCrae(our only multiple goal scorer also), Matt Killey and Justin Carlin.
Now is the time Cat fans, visit our well stocked Canteen or/and BBQ, stay hydrated and keep the energyup, ifyouseeaWest supporter give them a smile and congratulate them on the great job they have done on their new facilities at Malseed Park and if you see Fridge, well, don'tbetoonasty.Carnthe Cats!

ComparisonstoSouth’s1951flagthriller
In the week leading up to the 1970 Western Border Football League grand final there was plenty of talk aboutwhowouldwinandwhy
In simple terms, Hamilton was the premiership favourite and had built up a winning streak of 19 victories during the season and had the talent, toughnessandbrilliancetomatchanyside.
Just the same, there was an underlying fact that underdogs often get up to cause surprises in grand finals. At South there remained great confidencethey could become the first team since North Gambier to comefromthefirstsemifinalandgrabtheflag.
Along with the many facts of history which were written and talked about during that week one of the interesting comparisons was whether this current South side could emulate what the Demons did back in 1951 when they won their last premiership and theirsecondoverall,previouslywinningin1949inthe SouthEastandBorderFootballLeague.
This 1970 side had had two thrillers - winning by five points against West and then watching as Coleraine’s John Vickery hit the post right on the siren to win the preliminaryfinalbyfourpoints.
TheSouthpremiershipsideof1951hadasimilarroad to the grand final when they won the first semi final against East, winning by four-points and then defeated Penola by four goals in the preliminary final before going up against Millicent when they snatched aone-pointvictory
It was how South won which created history and was stillbeingspokenaboutin1970.
With seconds remaining, and scores level, South coach Jack Kelly grabbed the ball in the centre of the ground and sent his customary long drop kick to the goal square where players flew high, but none higher than halfforwardflankerBob Dermodywho, realising the situation did not try to mark, but instead punched theballthroughforavitalandmatch-winningbehind.
The siren sounded seconds later to give South a thrillingvictory
South were led by the former St Kilda champion Jack Kelly in both the 1949 and 51 premierships, when in 1949 they comfortably and downed the favourites North Gambier and fans were hoping something similarmighthappenin1970.
In both 1949 and 1951 South was the underdogs and not expected to win – it was a similar story in 1970 againstHamilton.
Looking back at history it was interesting that Syd “Sprigger”Lynchplayedinthebackpocketinthe1951 premiership was still playing at South in the reserves after a stellar career spanning more than 300 league games, mainlyintheSEBFL.
Veteran South fans believed he played more than 400
games in league and reserves at South before retiring in the early 1970s.

Also a member of the 1949 and 1951 premiership teams was present South selector Bob Attiwill senior and father of Bob Attiwill junior who was in the currentDemons’line-up.
Other famous names in that last premiership were formerPortAdelaideplayerBobDermody,ArchRyan, Max Crouch, Bill McGregor, Barney Seager, Les and RonStephens.
GiantruckmanErnieLewiswhowouldlaterwinaMail Medal in 1953, kicked four goals in that 1951 grand final while coach Jack Kelly and full forward Milton Jacquelinkickedthreeeach.
WalkerwasbackedbytheconsistentRusselMatthews and brilliant tall man Max Deckert who could outrun anyotherbigmanontheground.
Cayzer will have back up in John Melville and Hugh Brommell while rover and captain-coach Jim Read poses a threat to the South trio Barry Smith, Peter WhiteheadandJimmyJohnson.
South coach Garry Sims will come up against another topcentrehalfforwardthisinHamilton’sDeneMilner
After Sims disposed of Coleraine champion Geoff Shrive the previous week, this clash will be eagerly awaitedandcouldhaveabigbearingontheoutcome.
South’s top rover Bob Nicholls who had starred all seasons, was injured during the finals and missed selectioninthepremiershipteam.

Some of the interesting talk during the 1970 WBFL pre-game week was that no WBFL team had won two premierships – Hamilton had won previously two yearsearlierin1968andwasrunner-upin1969.
Tongue-in-cheek perhaps, but it was also stated that South had never lost a WBFL grand final, probably becausetheyhadneverbeeninonebefore.
And of course, South started its previous two grand finalsin1949and51asunderdogsandgotupandwon both.
But the underlying fact was that Hamilton was a class act.Theywerethebestteamthroughouttheminorby alongmarginandanevenbetteroutfitthanwhatwon the1968flag.
They had the best ruckmen in the league in former St KildaplayerGeoffCayzerwhowontheWBFLMedalin 1968 and 69 and played a big part in the Magpies flag winin1968.
Along the way in 1970 Hamilton recorded some massiveone-sidedwinsandwhilethatcansometimes mask weakneses, there just didn’t appear to be any in theMagpieline-up.
Theirperformanceinthesecondsemifinalwhenthey demolished a competent Coleraine in easy fashion was said to be one of the most polished finals performancesforsomeyears.
Yet, South were the team throughout the season to put Hamilton under most pressure and in their minor round clash at the Showgrounds it was only a late kick off the ground for a goal which resulted in a Hamilton winbysixpoints.
Ruckman David Walker was not the most brilliant ruckman in the league but his persistence and ability to run out the game might make him equal to the task ofdentingthebrillianceofCayzer
Gordon Walker and Gary Fox on the flanks have done little wrong through the final series although they wouldcomeupagainstthecleverAlanKnapewhowas alsolikelytorovewithRead.
LesPayneandGeoffJosephwerelikelytobetheother flankersandforwardpocketplayers.
In the centre, there was nothing between South’s Daryl Sims and Brian Cordy and both had good finals’ form.
On the wings Hamilton’s Bill Barham, and Sandy Eckersley had not lowered their colours this year and comeupagainstBaszcelWhiteheadandBobAttiwill.
In attack South were sweating on the fitness of centre halfforwardJeffArthur
He could not train on the Tuesday night after the preliminary final but South were confident he would play
Another to miss training was ruck-rover Russel Matthews who had treatment for a shoulder strain while ruckman David Walker left the track early to receive treatment on a shoulder knock received the previousweek.
Coach Garry Sims put the Demons through a tough session and all was in readiness for their clash on Saturday

NORTH GAMBIER V CASTERTON SANDFORD
It was a busy day at the office for North GambiergoalshooterGracePo sasshe had a day out, scoring 71 of the Tigers' 90 goals in a comprehensive 56 goal victoryoverCastertonSandford.
With the likes of Macey Griffith, Brianna Walters and Mel Renko delivering the ball to the tall shooter, there was li le theCatsdefenderscoulddo.
Ebany Jarrad was back on court and she certainly contested hard for Casterton Sandford to try and deny Po s so much ballbutthesupplycamethickandfast.
Jarrad moved out to goal defence in the second half, with Libby Altorfer given the goal keeper bib and the height differen al proved insurmountable despite Altorfer's strong leap and tenacity.
The Cats did have an improved scoring rate and the combina on of Ivy Lane and Chesley Galpin looks promising, while Madalene Cleary was again the Cats' best, having an effect in the first half and goal defence before moving to centreinthesecondhalfandcontrolling themidcourtforthevisitors.
North used the weekend ou ng to also try some different combina ons with Griffith having a quarter in wing a ack and u lity Lauran Norman having her first run at goal a ack for 2023 in the secondhalf

The rematch between 2022 Western Border Netball Associa on grand finalists Millicent and West Gambier liveduptothehype.
The match was basically a goal for goal
contest from the first whistle to the last as both sides worked over me to limit opportuni es for the team's respec ve dominantgoalshooters.
Not surprisingly both finished as their team's best player – but it was Sarah Ri er who had the last laugh as West heldonforatwogoalvictory
Ri er scored 36 from 47, while Millicent's Tabatha Sanderson converted 32 from 40, missing only two opportuni esinthesecondhalf.
The respec ve goal a acks – Lisa McGregor and Demi Verbena - did a mountain of work out front of the two spearheads, while the ba le between West's Tara Bryant and Millicent's Lillie Paul was one for the ages as two of the brightest mid court talents in the compe on ran hard both ways and were both influen al in their teams' fortunes.
Given both these sides normally score well in excess of 60 goals, the 50-48 scoreline shows that both sides had a strong defensive focus, not just in the circle but right down the court and neither side could really establish their favouredquick, directballmovement.
Trailing by five going into the final quarter, theSaintsshowedwhytheyare such a respected ou it, throwing everything at the Roos but the reigning premiers were able to hold sway as they too now present as a model of consistency – an emerging trait over the past18months.
SOUTHGAMBIERVEASTGAMBIER
The Bulldogs saved their best for last –the last quarter that was, when East Gambier played with an intensity and
ferocity that wore down the young South Gambierline-up.
In a game that had been a real arm wrestle, East turned a narrow two goal three quarter me lead into a 12 goal victory, led by the relentless pressure applied by Bo Creek and Morgan Amy, ably assisted by full court defensive effortfromtheen reEastline-up.
South was only able to generate eight final quarter scoring opportuni es to East's 20 and that weight of possession toldthestory.
Tarsh McCallum was a dominant player in the frene c final quarter and her leadership was invaluable, while Renee Henke and Casey Horrigan not only presented strongly in the shoo ng circle, ne ng 15 from 20 as a combina on.
The Demons would have been happy with their first half, leading by one at quarter meandfouratthehalfbutjust as supply was scarce in the last quarter, that decline in scoring opportuni es was evident in the third with only 11 chancestoscoreonoffer
Playing in a milestone game, Indi Dwyer was part of the back three that applied gooddefensivepressurealldayandwith Chloe Perryman domina ng the mid court, having an impact defensively and in a ack, the Bulldogs were basically able to maintain their intensity for longer
SouthshooterGracieDaltonagainstood up to the pressure, earning every possession in her ba le with Amy, while Ellie Bouchier was the main source of turnoverballfortheDemons.

NORTH GAMBIER V SOUTH GAMBIER
The young South Gambier lineup faces another huge test this weekend when it heads to Vansi art Park to take on the in formTigers.
Stopping Grace Po s will be priority one and their former team mate con nues to dominate the compe on in goalshooter
That task will fall to everyone, not just the circle defenders, with the mid court needing to curb the influence of Brianna WaltersandMelRenkowhoare all class, boas ng speed and smarts and rarely make an errorwithballinhand.
That task will fall to the likes of Megan Reid, Tully McShane and Ruby Richter and they will need to be at their ght checking best to hopefully make the feeds into Po s less accurate and allow their defender to create some turnoverball.
Ellie Bouchier will be a key as theonlyDemonsdefenderwith theheighttomatchPo sinthe air.
At the other end of the court, the Demons will need to be pa ent with ball in hand to work their way through the defensive class of Noni McConnell and Mikaela Pi , who deny opponents me and space and never give up easy ball.
South goalers Gracie Dalton and Alyssa Duncan will need to work for each other to secure enough scoring opportuni es to stay in touch on the
The form of North Gambier, given their new look line-up, has been outstanding and the Tigers should secure a comfortablevictory.
CASTERTON SANDFORD V WESTGAMBIER
Casterton Sandford is coming offacoupleoftoughweeksand it doesn't get any easier at Island Park this weekend when the Cats host the reigning premiers.
TheRoosareascoringmachine a n d a r e c o m i n g o ff a confidence building victory over Millicent and they will be tough to stop with Sarah Ri er and Lisa McGregor both capable of pu ng up big numbersintheshoo ngstakes.
Ebany Jarrad and Madalene
Cleary are the most likely to takeonthetaskofstoppingthe Roos goalers and they will be hoping Libby Altorfer and the always improving Madeline Pa on can make life tough for the West feeders and slow the ballmovement.
At the other end of the court, West defenders Amy Cram and jade Ri er are coming foo a strong defensive game and they will certainly make Ivy Lane and Chelsey Galpin work for their scoring opportuni es but the young shoo ng combina on is star ng to find some chemistry and showed s o m e p r o m i s e i n l a s t weekend'slosstoNorth.

MILLICENTVEASTGAMBIER
Millicent is coming off a ght loss to reigning premiers West, while East Gambier survived an arm wrestle with South courtesy of a stunning final quartersurge.
It sets up an intriguing clash at McLaughlinPark.
The Saints certainly start favourite given the form of Tabatha Sanderson and Demi Verbena in the shoo ng circle, the strong form of Lauren VanEeden in defence and a mid court that boasts Lillie Paul, who is se ling into her work in thecentre.
The good news for the Bulldogs is defenders Bo Creek and MorganAmyarecomingoffthe South game as the best two players on the court, so hopefully they can limit the scoring opportuni es for SandersonandVerbena.
Chloe Perryman and Tarsh McCallum will be keys for the Bulldogs as well and will need to work over me to find a way throughthe ghtdefensiveunit of Lisa Duldig, VanEeden and Por a McRae to find Renee Henke and Casey Horrigan in goodscoringposi on.
East isone of theteamsin2023 s ll looking to develop chemistry as a new look combina on so the more se led Saints should secure a strongwin.
