2022 OFFICIAL PROGRAMME ROUND 16 - AUGUST 6

FOR CHAPMAN North Gambier’s Matthew Chapman celebrated 400 games last weekend running through a guard of honour with children Mitchell, Riley and Maya

WEST GAMBIER v NORTH GAMBIER SOUTH GAMBIER v MILLICENT CASTERTON SANDFORD v EAST GAMBIER

GAME PREVIEW South Gambier v Millicent With the entire sporting community rallying behind the White Ribbon Round to raise awareness of domestic violence, the final fling of the 2022 Bendigo Bank Western Border Football League season will be a memorable one this Saturday. Although the race for finals and the minor premiership is already decided, there is still lots of bragging rights up for grabs and none more than at Blue Lake Sports Park. Ever since the start of the season Millicent and South Gambier have been battling it out at the top and they will aim to land one last punch prior to finals. This year the score line favours the Demons 21 with the most recent occurrence an emphatic victory to the red and white. South unleashed its full potential with its attacking style running the Saints ragged to win by 57 points and make the biggest statement of the season so far. Coach Brayden Kain led from the front kicking six goals and he will be eager to get back into it after he and Todd Reid missed last week due to SA Country duty. Kain not only has his sights set on finishing a remarkable season on a high, but he would also like to take out the leading goal kicker award. The South coach currently has 58 majors next to his name which is only two more than North Gambier's Sam Stafford. But Kain will be aware of the threat of a stronger Millicent team, especially at Blue Lake Sports Park. Since the previous clash Clint Gallio and Tom Hutchesson have both returned to the squad and they have a record to maintain. The Saints enjoy using the wide-open spaces Blue Lake Sports Park presents and have not lost at the venue since 2019.

After a pressure-packed season with Casterton Sandford, the Tigers and Roos rose when needed to book a finals berth and will not get to examine each other before a fight to the death next weekend. There has been little separating the rivals throughout the season with the visitors taking home the premiership points each time and both teams will back themselves in. The Roos will dust themselves off after falling short to ladder-leader South Gambier.

Although the sides may look to keep Not for the first time West was able to give the something in reserve, they will both be D e m o n s s o m e t h i n g t o t h i n k a b o u t desperate to give their rival something to throughout the four quarters with Lawry

Instead it will be a game of farewells as the Bulldogs look to end a tough year on a high and score a second win of the year. Meanwhile Casterton Sandford could be playing its last game of Western Border football if it elects to chase the Mid South Eastern avenue in 2023 and a win in front of the home fans could be a fitting send off.

This week see’s the last round before the finals.. last week we p l aye d t h e m i g ht o f t h e demons who came away with the win.

This week we play out old foe in the Tigers and if games go to plan we will meet them in the first final.

North Gambier

What a weekend we had last week, with the 2012 senior and reserves reunion, Matthew Chapmans 400th senior game, past players ½ time show and must win games across the board.

The reunion started off Friday night watching the replays and with many of the current players watching, I don’t think there is any doubt this helped inspire the boys on Saturday, assisted by the largest and noisiest crown we have had since pre-Covid. And believe me for those that weren’t there, things only got noisier as the night went on as the reunion boys tried to recreate their 2012 celebrations, which in the whole I think they largely achieved. Thank you to Casterton Sandford for helping the day go off so well, including them joining the ½ time show and putting up with our unusually vocal crowd. Hopefully some of our old northies that came on Saturday, and had a good time, we see more often going forward. The feeling around the club is that the U 14s have been building for a win, and that is just what happened, getting the club off to a very positive start for the big day planned. This can not be underestimated and congratulations to coach Baron and his support staff on their perseverance. Best players were named Sam Baron, Jackson Driver, James Flett, Connor Lunnay & Cooper Harris. The seniors game was really a shootout for a finals berth, so with plenty on the line it was a tight first quarter before we pulled away for a comfortable win. The scripting was perfect with our current players from 2012, Justin and Nick Mc,

Ma hew Chapman pre game with Partner Jess, Children Mitchell, Riley and Maya

Yellow & Black both kicking late goals, up the shed end, giving the crowd plenty to cheer about. Best players were named Nick McInerney, Mitch Kelton, Jordan Hollitt, Justin McConnell, Cameron Ortlepp and Ciaran Buckley, most of whom are in our leadership group. Special mention to Sam Stafford with another 4 goals as he continues his ripping season. The reserves had a few reunion ring-ins who hadn’t played for a few years. Unfortunately, this combined with their activities on Friday night had some effect on their performance. In another must win game for a finals spot, unfortunately we couldn’t get over the line for Chappy, meaning a finals spot is now probably out of our control. Will Thompson, Jacob Arthurson, Jordan Mansell, Scott Flett, Matthew Hensel & Tom Flett. The U16s enjoyed not having to worry about filling in for the U18s and they had a good win, probably tying up 2nd spot on the ladder and building momentum. Awards were given to Deacon Ilsley, Josh Glidden, Richard Kinyabugma, Seb Doody, Cooper Turner & Jonty Collins. Last round this week for some teams v West at Malseed Park, after which we will head back to the club for awards and a bit of music. The seniors will be a rehearsal for the first final, so it will be an interesting day. Just a heads up that we are hosting the grand final this year, so don’t make any plans for the 3rd of September 2022. Hopefully we both playing and cooking bbqs etc on the day. Thanks to our major sponsors, Stuckey Electrical Contracts and KFC.

LOCAL SPORTING WEEKEND TO BE WHITEWASHED This weekend's sporting action will be whitewashed with players all over the Limestone Coast uniting for the White Ribbon Round to raise awareness of family and domestic violence. The special event started in 2018 when the Western Border football and netball leagues wore white, but after a two-year break due to COVID-19, the round is back bigger than ever. Not only will the Western Border players take part, they will be joined by the Mount Gambier Pioneers NBL1 South basketball team, Limestone Coast Football Association, Lower South East Hockey Association, plus the Mid South Eastern and Kowree N a ra c o o r t e Ta t i a ra fo o t b a l l a n d n e t b a l l competitions. Having all senior players wear a white ribbon in the major winter sporting competitions across all points of the region will spread a strong message throughout the Limestone Coast, while the Pioneers will take it a step further and wear white warmup tops made especially for the occasion. The special occasion has been organised by the Limestone Coast Family Violence Action Group and member Peter Zeitz said they are thrilled to see the sporting community respond so passionately behind an important cause. “I think people also recognize it is a really worthwhile cause,” he said. “All the organisations we approached have not hesitated and we are really grateful for everyone who has jumped on board.” The white arm bands that will be seen everywhere will raise awareness and encourage conversations and hopefully create positive change. Tragically 18 women have been killed due to domestic and family violence already in 2022. Sadly, Zeitz said this serious issue has also previously occurred in the Limestone Coast and has many longterm impacts on families which is why this round is so important. “In its extreme on average one woman per week is killed as a result of domestic violence and this has occurred within the region,” he said. “There is a risk to the health and well-being of a

person on occasions when there has been serious assault or homicide. “But even scaling back from that extreme, just the impact it has on families forcing women and children to flee and even become homeless and financially disadvantaged. “The stats suggest it is an ongoing issue in the community so this will be a great way to bring it to the forefront of peoples minds.” The Limestone Coast Family Violence Action Group is made up of a number of community members and volunteers with an aim to support domestic and family issues. It has become a platform to hold different initiatives to raise awareness and provide support for the issue. In addition to the White Ribbon Sports Round, the group has also holds activities such as a vigil for those who have passed due to the issue on the nationwide Domestic Violence Remembrance Day, which has grown rapidly. Other numerous projects include a white ribbon breakfast held in November each year and working with schools and the library to continue spreading the message. Despite the White Ribbon Round growing enormously since it was last held in 2019, Zeitz said this year was all about getting it back in peoples minds and believes it can become even bigger in the future. “Thus year was all about reintroducing it and getting it back on the table,” he said. “But there is maybe an opportunity for the AFL to provide some speakers to come down to the region and host an event in the future. “But this year it is great to have so many leagues and associations on board to get it back on the agenda after Covid.” With numerous sad ramifications caused from domestic violence, Zeitz hopes the White Ribbon Round can ensure the right messages can be sent to provide support at times of need. “It is really important if we can highlight people having a bit more to say when behavior is not good,”

he said. “A high percentage of perpetrators are male which is why we want to see the senior men wearing the ribbons, but we have also extended that to the female and children teams playing because its more about raising awareness for a community issue. “We just want to cause conversations and make people aware of it and maybe reach out to support people they know. “It is a good message to send to the youth and families involved in sport.” If you require urgent assistance or are concerned for your safety or the safety of someone you know, please contact: Emergency Services 000, 1800 RESPECT (1800 7437 732) Domestic Violence Crisis Line (1800 800 098), Mens Line Australia (1300 789 978) or the Limestone Coast Family Violence Action Group (0455 683 335). WEARING WHITE AS ONE: Limestone Coast Family Violence Action Group member Peter Zeitz (back left), Tigers Hockey Club's Luke Hunter, Castec Rural Mount Gambier Pioneer Jordan Rawls , North Gambier's Nick McInerney, Nangwarry's Luke Thomson, International's Christian Cella, West's David Vine (front left), MSEFL's Naomi Mitchell with Limestone Coast Family Violence Action Group members Georgina Davison, Katherine Davies and Priscilla Baker wearing white ribbons.

The penultimate minor round game and we celebrated it by having a sponsors' function in our brand new entertainment area next to the BBQ. Huge thanks to all the tradies who made it happen in a week, in particular Brayden Kain, Trent Milich, Taylor Saffin and Leigh Winterfield. The senior team got the job done despite missing 2 stars in coach Kain and Todd Reid fantastic effort by these fellas representing our State in a winning effort against Western Australia. 84-52 with best player clearly Colby Munro with 5 classy goals then Brett O’Neil, Emerson Marks, Patrick Glynn, Mason Hein and Brock Keding. 7 goals from Kym Eagleson edged him closer to the magical ton, he finished on 94 goals for the season with a game in hand. Final score 9613 with best players Nick Seager, Christopher Williams, Kym Eagleson, Riley Sturges, Luke Gray and Bryce Whicker.

64-15 in the thirds with best players Jack Domaschenz, Hudson Keding, Shem Wastell, Ethan Sims, Lochlan Thiele and Lachlan Broome. 105-8 in the U16 grade. Best players Harry Wright, Isaak Bouchier, Lewis Sigley, Mason Bentley and Jakob Hann.

14-55 a rare loss in the U14s the loss we had to have according to super coach Heath Mitchell. Best players Harrison Hicks, Jobe Harten, Hudson Croser, Kobi Svec and Ella Guest. This week it's a top of the ladder clash with Millicent at BLSP in the last minor round before we front up against then in 2 weeks time in the second semi-final. Saturday night is the Demon Auction, we have already had great support from a multitude of sponsors and we'd love even more to see your faces at the function for some spirited bidding and socialising.

A good game of footy in the Seniors. Although the Saints led all day, they were never able to shake off a determined East side and only secured the win with a few late goals. Was great to see Sam Willis hitting the scoreboard again with 3 goals with along with Bomma, while the old timer Nat Robbins chipped in with 2. The young guys led the way all d ay w i t h Ka l a n S h a n k s , Hamish Nitschke, Sam Willis, Kade Varcoe, Josh Werchon and Callen McGrath being named in the best. The Reserves had a comfortable win against an undermanned East side, but it was pleasing to see the boys finally capitalise on a good start and put a team away. The forwards relished the opportunities provided by the midfield with Digga kicking 6, Mitta 4 and Narns 3, while Harry worked hard all around the ground and chipped in with 3 goals. Better players were Hammer, Harry, Digger, Mitta Wattsy and Tilley.

The U18’s, missing a few of their senior players, went down in a close one. Harry Gibbs was our only multiple goal scorer with 2, while Ty Lang, Austin Fuller and Harry were the better players. U16’S had a win, the U14’s went down, while the 12A’s had a good win out on the back oval. Off to South for the final minor round games before all football and netball teams begin their finals campaigns. The 12A’s are playing under lights after the Senior game, and then back to Jens Hotel for presos.

Good luck to all Demons!

WITH BIG WEEKEND FOR EAST PAST PLAYERS Bulldogs’ celebrate 1972 and 1982 flags By GRAHAM GREENWOOD LAST Saturday I was invited to give the keynote address at the East Gambier Football Club’s luncheon reunion at McDonald Park.

Underdown, Chris Eldridge, Phil Brooksby who later played state for SA, Max Lock (multi Reserves premiership captain), Frank Graney, Patrick Dempsey, Pat Black, Kevin Preece, Jim McPherson (club secretary), Ian Janeway, Bruce Bain, Chris Lynch, Brendan Duigan, John Salievic, John Shirley and Bill Popping (trainer). I am sure to have missed some, if so, add your name in the comments section.

GREENWOOD for lunch there was talk of me being thrown off the end of the jetty but fortunately that didn’t happen. It was just another reason why the 1970s and early 80s era of the Western Border Football League was, in my view, the greatest period for local football. I was so privileged to have had a front-row seat every Saturday to witness some of the greatest players who ever put on a footy boot in the WBFL and along the way met players and officials who to this day I can call friends. With East Gambier playing in 13 grand finals in 18 seasons from 1971 until 1988 and winning seven flags, it was one of the great dynasties in WBFL history so there might still be plenty to celebrate in coming years as the anniversaries of previous victories arrive. • PHOTO: Two important players in East’s 1972 premiership win, Gary Lazarus (number three) and Dennis Blowes (number 33) are out-marked by North’s Robert Case (26) who was the Tigers’ best in that grand final.

MATCH REPORTS SOUTH GAMBIER V WEST GAMBIER West Gambier franked its premiership creden als at the weekend with a domina ng first half against South Gambier, who had no answer to the relentless pressure and the slick ball movement of the Roos.

EAST GAMBIER V MILLICENT Millicent was in control of its clash with East Gambier for the first three quarters, leading by six, nine and 12 at each change before the Bulldogs powered back hard in the final quarter to trim the final deficit to six.

The 40-11 hal ime scoreline told the story and while the Demons were a much improved ou it in the second half, the damage had been done and the final scoreline of 77-39 saw the Demons slip out of the top four, leaving them with the task of bea ng Millicent this coming weekend to see if they can move back into the finals line-up for 2022.

The only real concern for the Saints is it is the second successive week, a game that was in hand has become a nailbiter courtesy of a last quarter fade out – the previous round it ended in a draw.

The West Gambier win was built on their defensive work right across the court and what ball did make it through the mid court was o en turned over by Amy Cram and Jade Ri er. Tara Bryant controlled the mid court with her hard running and speed on the drive and she con nued to deliver the ball to Lisa McGregor and Sarah Ri er in good posi on and the accuracy on the finish ensured the scoreboard was lopsided. The first half saw the Roos convert 40 from 47 and that weight of supply, compared with South’s 20 a empts, showed just how dominant West was in that opening half. South did have to juggle its line-up in the opening quarter when a blood rule forced a reshuffle and that didn’t help the home side’s cause either but in the end, West was just too strong. Sophie Wight, who was filling for the unavailable Megan Reid, had a good ba le with Bryant, especially given their gap in experience in the top grade, while Ruby Richter was strong on the defensive wing and a key player in transi on. Bryant and Cram were the Roos best, while Sarah Ri er and McGregor con nue to be a high scoring shoo ng combina on.

Millicent shooter Tabatha Sanderson was strong under the post for the visitors and the supply she received from Demi Verbena, Paige Nitschke and Lisa Duldig was perfect, the slick ball movement not allowing East defenders Morgan Amy and Bo Creek to really have an impact on the scoring. While at the other end, the defensive pressure of the Saints was also on full display as Por a McRae, Hannah Nitschke, Georgia Clarke and Duldig held up the Bulldogs and made it difficult for the Bulldogs goalers to secure enough ball to stay in touch on the scoreboard. Amryn Bosko was the key target for East in the opening half and she finished with good accuracy but it wasn’t un l the final quarter where East had enough scoring opportuni es that Bosko and Sarah Lock were really able to shine, ne ng 15 from 16.The hard running of Tarsh McCallum was also cri cal for East but in the end, though, the Saints were basically in control, with Sanderson holding strongly, Duldig leading the mid court and the young defensive end con nuing to get the job done. NORTH GAMBIER V CASTERTON SANDFORD In round 14, North Gambier finally had its preferred star ng seven out on the court but it was too good to be true but with Brianna Walters missing, the Tigers were

DENTON’S

s ll able to produce a strong four q u a r t e r performance to win their way back into the top four. Casterton Sandford is also ge ng used to life without Scarle Jarrad, who has succumbed to a season ending knee injury, and it was an issue of supply for the Cats, who just couldn’t find an easy path through the tough Tigers defence. In the first half it was Zahra Crough and Mel Renko, while in the second half, it was Crough and Lauran Norman and with the pressure out the front from Libby Morgan and Ash Kalantarian, every scoring opportunity was hard earned. At the other end, despite the ght checking of Ebany Jarrad and Charlo e Rice, the ball movement and delivery into Macey Griffith and Caroline Wakefield was just too slick and precise and as she so o en does, Wakefield was also supremely accurate, ne ng 56 from 64. North did try and new combina on in the second half, swinging Renko into the middle for a rare ou ng in the mid court, Kalantarian moved back to her usual wing a ack role and Norman heading into the defensive circle. The Cats also looked to shake thing sup, moving the athle c Caeleigh Humphries into the middle for the second half and bringing the tenacious Claire Foster onto the defensive wing to add more physical pressure to the defensive end. Humphries and experience goal a ack Madalene Cleary were best for the Cats, while Griffith and Wakefield were unstoppable in goals.

ROUND PREVIEWS CASTERTON SANDFORD V EAST GAMBIER This is the one match of the round that will not impact on the final standings but instead looms as a chance for the new look young Cats to test themselves once more this season – this me against the reigning premiers – while for East, it is a chance to iron out the wrinkles ahead of the 2022 finals series. East's star ng seven has had very few ou ngs together so any chance to finetune and build chemistry is cri cal. The shoo ng combina on of Sarah Lock and Amryn Bosko is star ng to gel and the test of the ght checking young Cats defenders of Ebany Jarrad and Charlo e Rice will be good prepara on for the rough and tumble of finals. At the other end, Morgan Amy and Bo C re e k w i l l b e l o o k i n g to st ra n g l e opportuni es for the emerging shoo ng combina on of Madalene Cleary and Ivy Lane. The mid court ba les sees the experienced combina on of Tarsh McCallum, Emily Hunter and Tyne Bosko against the hard running Phoebe Carlin, Caeleigh Humphries and Makayla Hutchins and the bad news for the young Cats is the Bulldogs trio have started to hit their straps as finals approach. East will be in no mood to allow Casterton Sandford into this contest and given their success has always been built on relentless pressure without the ball to create turnover and then use their speed to transi on, it looms as a tough day out for the final me this season for the Cats. SOUTH GAMBIER V MILLICENT It is hard to see it happening but South Gambier's season remains alive if it can defeat Millicent. Last me the two met it was a poor start that brought the Demons undone and in the end the margin was a respectable 12 goals – just enough to give South Gambier

hope. South also needs West to defeat North for the finals dream to become a reality. And it will come down to the start. Two of the club's worst defeats – their most recent clash with East Gambier and last weekend against the Roos – have come a er lacklustre opening quarters and the young Demons will need to be switched on and ready to compete from the opening whistle. Lara Munro and Alyssa Duncan are well matched to Saints defenders Por a McRae and Hannah Nitschke and if they show pa ence and wait for the space to open up, they should be able to stay in touch on the scoreboard, especially if they use their circle feeders, Tully McShane and Megan Reid to work the ball through the Saints defence. At the other end, Grace Edwards and Ellie Bouchier will not only need to play a close checking game on Tabatha Sanderson and Demi Verbena to reduce their scoring opportuni es and that will also rely on pressure through the mid court from Ruby Richter, who is coming off a couple of strong ou ngs, and Reid. The South mid court will certainly have to work hard both offensively and defensively given the class and experience of the Saints mid court that includes Lisa Duldig, Paige Nitschke, Georgia Clarke and also can call on Lillie Paul. Millicent definitely start favourite but spectators at Blue Lake Sports Park will be hoping the home side really brings four quarters of heat and leaves no stone unturned to a return to the top four. WEST GAMBIER V NORTH GAMBIER The clash between West Gambier and North Gambier is another finals shaping clash in the final minor round of Western Border netball ac on.

they play finals in 2022. If they suffer defeat, they will need to wait on the scoresheet from Blue Lake Sports Park and hope that Millicent secure the victory. North's best has been more than good enough, as the round 14 draw with Millicent showed but it will take at least that level of performance to knock off the Roos. Sarah Ri er and Lisa McGregor are one of the best shoo ng combina ons in the compe on, while at the other end, Jade Ri er and Amy Cram are coming off a typically miserly defensive performance where they held South to only 11 goals in a half. The young mid court of Mikaela Horrigan, Zoe Malseed and Tara Bryant is hard running and works as hard defensively as it does with ball in hand – in a nutshell the Roos have no weaknesses. N o r t h a l s o h a s a st ro n g s h o o n g combina on with Caroline Wakefield and Macey Griffith, while the mid court of Ash Kalantarian, Brianna Walters and Libby Morgan have the pace and smarts to mor than match it with the young Roos and while they have had limited me as a defensive combina on, Mel Renko and Zahra Crough have proven to be a tough duo against which to score. Lauran Norman adds versa lity to the Tigers line-up with the youngster able to fill any role on the court and while the Tigers have challenged the top sides consistently, inconsistency has been their biggest enemy and West will take the points as they con nue to ramp up their premiership campaign.

The equa on is simple. If the Tigers win

South defeated by West 21 - 34. 1st Best Player: Lucy Simpson 2nd Best Player: Tully Lindner. Game Day Vouchers: Tully Lindner & Ellie Xanthopoulos.

U 17's - It was always going to be a tough game going up against the South girls who are sitting second on the ladder, but my girls gave it their all and didn’t give up. If there was a medal for the determination my under 17’s would win it hands down. Once again the defence girls had a big job to do, Kirra and Maddie did everything they could to try and stop their goalies. Stevi played a great intercepting game at WD putting the pressure on right down the court. We had a goalie missing so we had a few different combinations to fill that spot and both Halle and Hannah are growing with confidence in the goal circle, supporting Aleisha who once again shot a great game. Charlotte and Amity did some brilliant passes into to the goals and are always a great asset across the court. One game to go for us this year, lets go out with a bang. South defeated West 84 - 24. 1st Best Player: Aleisha Pearson 2nd Best Player: Stevi Clayton. Game day awards Stevi Clayton and Maddy Milich C Grade - South defeated West 54 - 24. 1st Best Player: Emma Pollock 2nd Best Player: Olivia James. B Grade - In freezing conditions we were off to a slow start on Saturday, losing our first few scoring opportunities. We settled in and were able to post a modest score, but moving the ball out of defense and through the mid court continued to cause problems. Maddy and Courtney as always put up a good fight while Carly starred in the shooting ring. South defeated West 56 - 26. 1st Best Player: Bianca Jackway 2nd Best Player: Maddelyn Milich. A Reserve - South defeated by West 35 - 50. 1st Best Player: Taylor WilsonSmith 2nd Best Player: Rachel Langford A Grade - Really happy with the win in windy and chilly conditions. Our defence caused so many turnovers all game and really set us up for a solid win. Everyone played their part and I am happy with how we are tracking towards finals. One more minor round game to fine tune our game style before the business end of our season starts. Let's do this girls. South defeated by West 39-77. 1st Best Player: Tara Bryant 2nd Best Player: Amy Cram. Good luck to our teams this week against North, and for the finals. We are proud of you all! KEEP YOUR EYE ON THE RED AND THE BLUE! GO WEST!!

North Gambier

Under 11's North 16 vs 12 Casterton What a great team effort you all played so well and put in a 6quarter effort to win our first game. Positioning and passing down court to our goalies was fantastic and great reading of the play by the defences to turn the ball over and allow us to score some extra goals to secure the win. Great job Mel and Nic for coaching. Best players: Indi Renko (sponsored by Treehouse) and Addison Kamphius

Under 13A's North 66 vs 5 Casterton Today was a great team effort. We played so well because we played as a team. Our girls were determined and focused on the task at hand. We were strong on attack and moved the ball well through the centre court. Our defence was solid, and we managed to utilise and score from the turn overs. We executed our game plan and demonstrated good team effort. Well done to all our girls. Let's use this game to build our confidence. Best players: Lacey Allen (sponsored by Niche Homes) and Grace Collins Under 13B's North 26 vs 35 Casterton Our girls demonstrated admirable resilience on Saturday. They fought hard but Casterton was too strong in the end. Our attacking side moved the ball well down the court. Our goalies used any scoring opportunity to capitalise. Our defence kept on fighting hard to get turn overs and interceptions. We continue to improve in positioning, strong passes and good communication on court. Best players: Piper Lucas and Mackenzie Harrold Under 15 A's North 59 vs 24 Casterton The girls played a strong 4 qtr match where they started strong. Cara Nulty, Sarah Brown and Jayme Young were dominate forces in the midcourt providing turn overs and strong leads to the circle. Macey Griffith continues to be a dominate and strong target driving into the circle and was well supported by Elodie Adam who continues to grow each week. Ava Collins has found her position in GK and has worked tirelessly on improving her defense skills. Ruby Mitchell took plenty of rebounds and is developing her drives down the court. It was great to have Maggie Collins return into the midcourt and the team continue to grow with our team word 'belief'. Best players: Sarah Brown and Ruby Mitchell Under 15 B's North 39 vs 33 Casterton We started strong in the first quarter but unfortunately let Casterton back into the game late in the quarter. Some beautiful passages of play into our goalies with some nice passes. I feel we are getting there with our awareness of each other but need to put this out on court for 4 quarters. Best players: Mia Dyson and Tillie McEachern (sponsored by Gavin J McEachern) Under 17's North 30 vs 44 Casterton We started the first quarter strongly, but we didn't maintain our momentum and

Yellow & Black let Casterton back in the game, allowing them to gain the lead late in the quarter. Despite this, the girls continued to apply some excellent defensive pressure, creating turnovers, but unfortunately, we didn't capitalise on these opportunities. T h e o u t s ta n d i n g d e fe n s i v e w o r k continued all game and there were some great passages of play into our goalies, however our success in our attack line was inconsistent and Casterton made the most of the opportunities created. Casterton definitely outplayed us today and we will need to work hard on improving our attacking structures if we wish to be successful in the finals. Best players: Alysha Coon (sponsored by K&S) and Coco Mackereth C Grade North 45 vs 19 Casterton An outstanding game for C grade this week, with a big win over Casterton. The girls played strong from the very beginning and were able to increase their lead with every quarter. The defensive pressure that we were able to put on Casterton's attack resulted in lots of turnovers and picking up of loose balls. Our movement in attack was strong, allowing for smooth passages of play down the court. A top effort from everyone this week! Best players: Zarly Jones and Bec Johnson B Grade North 49 vs 34 Casterton Well done girls, it was an excellent team effort. Defensive pressure, backing each other up and the drive we had all the way down the court was great. A solid effort in the defence with Bri L, Nat and Hannah getting their hands on a lot of turn overs. Amelia, Maddie and GMac played exceptionally well working the ball into our goalies Bri F and Ash. Great effort girls. Best players: Nat Fox and Ash Ashby A Reserve North 50 vs 45 Casterton A bit of a messy game for A res this week playing different styles of netball each quarter. We had a good start showing nice passages of play and then things started to fall apart for us in the 2nd and 3rd quarters. A huge 4th quarter effort from every player on the court showed us going up convincingly in the end. We were able to lift the pressure and intensity and connect from our defensive end through to our attacking end which was great. Great strength and effort displayed by all which shows if we can be consistent, we can have a strong finish to the season. Best players: Cara Nulty and Riley Mitchell A Grade North 72 vs 26 Casterton A grade needed to have a confident game to ensure a finals berth and they delivered a polished performance even without the hard running Brianna. We had a different attack line in the first half and defence line in the second half. Lauren Norman played well at both ends and this allowed Mel to have a sneaky run through the centre, which provided needed drive around the circle. A relatively easy game heading into finals in a few week's time. Best players: Mel Renko (sponsored by Kaboom) and Libby Morgan-Howe

A Grade Millicent 51 def East 45 Best Players- Tabatha Sanderson & Lisa Duldig The girls were focused from the first whistle getting off to a great start, controlling the ball in attack and finishing off in goals. We were six up at the first break and this set up our win. We continued to play consistently in the second and third to take a 12 goal advantage heading into the last quarter. We didn’t finish the way we wanted to not adapting to changes made. A four quarter effort will be our focus going into our final minor round game of the season. Keep up the great work at training girls!

A Reserve Millicent 24 lost to East 38 Best Players- Edie Easterby & Daisy Tunkin We went into the match with some key p l aye rs u n ava i l a b l e w h i c h wa s definitely going to unsettle us. Thank u to Jemma , Edie and Abby for stepping up. Great to have Jackie back on court . A very physical match which at times seemed to disturb out momentum. Let’s hit the courts to prepare well for the final minor round match . B Grade Millicent 58 def East 24 Best Players- Krystal Coghlan & Tiarna Verbena Fantastic team game by our group today, welcoming Alannah in to our team for a full game at WD to help us out, playing strong and fitting in well. Without our full team, we still managed to incorporate new plays and support Nic in her first full game at GS, where she utilised her height and finished off well. Jac ably assisted her, finding space and finishing accurately and setting up good plays with T and Caito, who both drove and hit the ring well. Kodes and Kritta were dominant in defence, limiting scoring opportunities, while creating many turnovers. Well done girls, a great win, played in good spirits with our opposition and a lot of laughs. C Grade Millicent 34 drew with East 34 Best Players - Kate Patten & Claudia Pratt Finally having a full team going up against East the girls were keen to have a win. The girls started off with their heads in the game ready to go. With a slower start we found ourselves just falling behind east. We continued to fight throughout the game and ended up drawing. This is what we need to put a fire under us going up against South next week. 17s Millicent 83 def East 19 Best Players - Poppy Venn & Lillie Paul the girls had a strong start to the game, scoring 19 goals in the first quarter. the girls kept the intensity up and scored off turnovers with a great flow in attacking. Poppy Venn from 15’s played a strong game in goals, coming up from under 15’s. the girls finished off strong with a 24 goal last quarter. looking

Millicent Red, Black & White forward to a tough game next weekend to finish off the minor rounds. 15As Millicent 52 def East 8 Best Players - Edie Easterby & Jaimie Lucas Another great win by this talented group of girls. The girls showed great versatility to be thrown into different positions and adapt well. A feature of their game is the team work and sportsmanship they show. Keep working hard at training so we are ready to go in finals. 15Bs Millicent 19 lost to East 28 Best players- Bree Watson & Poppy Thorne 13Bs Millicent 29 def East 7 Best Players- Ella Matthews & Poppy Thorne the girls played really well. Amarlie did some really good leads allowing Olive to come through and make an easy shot. Audrey and Isabelle worked really well in the defence end being able to pick off the passes and help transition it back down the court. In the mid court Lindy and Courtney worked well being able to read off one another to help being the ball down into the goal circle. 13As Millicent 61 def East 10 Best Players - Asha Gysbers & Ashlee Dean A convincing win against East with our first quarter setting the momentum for the day. Ashlee and Kalani combined well in the goal circle and Emily and Jeda in the defensive circle only conceding 1 goal. In the 2nd half we played out of our regular positions, though we made some passing errors we worked hard to get them back. Bell and Jeda showed their versatility in goals with matching the scoring rate of our first quarter. Scarlett and Lucy picked up loads of intercepts through the mid-court and Asha adapted well with all her position changes to earn best on court. 11s Millicent 27 def East 2 Best players- Prudence Johnson & Lacey Sunderland Girls played a strong consistent team ga me t h is week wit h ever yo n e adjusting well to the position changes. Just need to remember to use our voices. Lots of defensive pressure, great passing and shooting seen us come away with a strong win. Well done girls! As we make our way to South for the final minor round game of the season, all netball teams are to be commended on their efforts this season, along with our committee members, umpires and volunteers who help make every game possible! With all teams looking ready to head into finals, be sure to head down and support the girls this weekend!!

Casterton-Sandford Blue, White & Red The Casterton-Sandford girls headed over the border once again to play North Gambier last weekend. Seniors: The A Grade had a tough match, and despite their efforts on the court lost 26-72. Madalene, Caeleigh, Ebany & Charlotte made terrific passages of play in both attack and defense. A Reserve players Gaby, Mikayla, Jo & Jess put everything on the line in the hope to finish the game with a win. Unfortunately, the North girls had a strong defense, and our girls couldn't quite grasp the win losing 45-50. Kerri, Tammy, Ebony, & Dakota fought hard for every ball in the B Grade but were out of luck going down to North 34-49. Our C Grade side had fundamental players in Brittany & Tania. Although the girls gave it their all, they lost 1945. The Under 17s had an outstanding game with Ebany, Chloe, Sophie & Phoebe making the most of every possession. The girls came away with a 14-goal win 44-30.

V

Juniors: Brydie, Chelsea, Caitlyn & Olivia made well-timed leads throughout last weekend's game, but couldn't collect the win in the Under 15A's losing 2459.

It was a close fought game in the Under 15B's with Chelsea, Amelia & Charlotte never giving up. The girls lost 33-39. Unfortunately outmatched the Under 13A players Ylana, Makayla & Rachel couldn't put a stop to North's attack. The 5-66 score-line didn't reflect the girls continual effort. The Under 13B's ran away with the win this week 35-26. Ylana, Marlee, Chloe & Renee played outstandingly. Under 11's Sienne & Ruby alongside teammates made some excellent passes and took some terrific intercepts. Unfortunately, they couldn't get the win losing 12-16. Goodluck in the final round games this weekend ladies!

A GRADE - East 45 lost to Millicent 51 Although we didn't win, I'm proud of the way the girls played today. The fight and determination in the last quarter is the exact game play we need to continue doing leading into finals. Great talk and control on the court from Tarsh and Emily to feed to our goalies. Morgan and Tyne played a great game in defence picking off the ball when we needed a stop. Let's continue with those maximum efforts and second options. Best Players – Tarsh McCallum & Amryn Bosko Awards – Tyne Bosko (Jens Hotel) Morgan Amy (Boost Juice) A RES – East 38 defeated Millicent 24 Another good win on the board for these girls. It was a little scrappy at times, but a really positive sign that we can still perform well against top teams with some things to iron out. Let's keep on this roll and working hard, a few more weeks to go.

Best Players – Sharna McKinnon & Brooke Hicks Awards – Sharna McKinnon (Gym Challenge Meals) Brooke Hicks (OK Pie Shop) B GRADE – East 24 lost to Millicent 58 Even though we didn't get the win, it was so great to see everyone smiling, having fun and enjoying their netball. East Gambier Red & Black game of the season. Hold nothing back and put in a 100% effort game. Best Players – Jordy Davis & Keelie Neilson Awards – Jordy Davis (Jens Hotel) Keelie Neilson (San Piero) 15A's – East 8 lost to Millicent 52 The girls had a good start against a strong and well-disciplined Millicent side. Unfortunately, we just made too many little errors that resulted in Millicent scoring. An injury in the 2nd quarter took the girls by surprise and it took a bit to get back into the swing of things. In the end our girls just couldn't keep up with Millicent but saved their legs for the B's game. Best Players –Abby Lines & Charlotte Crute Awards – Mia Young (25 Acres) Charlotte Crute (Hungry Jacks) 15B's – East 27 defeated Millicent 19 Our girls had a strong start against a young Millicent team. We scored on every opportunity we had in the first quarter to put us up going into the second quarter. The girls played well across the court with a few and returning combinations between players. They should all be very proud and bring that momentum into our games next week where we fight for out chance in finals. Well done girls! Best Players –Ellie Chittleborough & Sharni Clark Awards – Abby Lines (OK Pie Shop) Cedar Scott (Wendys) 13A's – East 10 lost to Millicent 61 Good effort today girls. It's always a tough game against a very talented team. We utilised the versatility of our team and you listened to directions. We need to work on our communication on the court and remember to encourage one another.

C GRADE – East 34 drew to Millicent 34 We were out for a win but so we're Millicent. The energy was high, and the game was fast paced. Goal accuracy from Katie and defensive pressure from Shannon allowed for a slight lead early in the peace. Jac controlled the middle well and picked off at crucial moments. Half time saw Millicent take the lead and is chase our tails. Our second half theory came into play with a steady and structured game and the lead was taken back into our hands. Some end of game changes and game changing errors caused us to end in a draw. An excellent and thrilling game!

13B's – East 7 lost to Millicent 29 Awesome game today, you continue to improve each game and keep fighting the whole game.

17's – East 19 lost to Millicent 83 Up against the top leaders in the 17 Competition, we knew it wasn't going to be an easy day. However, we allowed them to take more from us than needed. Millicent was right on us when we didn't meet the ball hard enough or we didn't follow up on the 2nd attempt and they came through to take the ball away. We did however keep working throughout the game and pushed to the end. Let's regroup this week for our last

11's – East 2 lost to Millicent 27 It was always going to be a really hard game for the girls. You all tried your best. When the girls played in defence, they worked overtime to try win the ball back. Let's have a lot of fun for our last game this week.

BROOKE HICKS

Brooke started with us in 2003, playing juniors and 3 games in seniors. In 2006 to 2008, whilst still playing juniors, she also made her A Grade debut. 2009 saw her filling in for games when she could whilst at Uni in Adelaide and returned to playing at East in 2013 to 2017. She took some time off to have 2 incredible little b oys a n d we a re s o pleased to see her back playing in A Reserve again. She is very tenacious mid-court netballer, who is strong in the air and on

the ground. She has the ability to defend hard and unsettle the opposition whilst being able to settle and control her own attack line. She moves well on court, opening space for her teammates and hitting the circle edge with ease, a beautiful feeder into her goalies. She is a huge asset to any team on court, at trainings and as a friend. Over the last 20+ years, she has played, coached and umpired and is a valued club member.
