EAST GAMBIER v MILLICENT NORTH GAMBIER v CASTERTON SANDFORD SOUTH GAMBIER v WEST GAMBIER
GAME PREVIEW North Gambier v Casterton Sandford It will be the last round of the Bendigo Bank Western Border Football League season where teams are facing off for the first time and there will be a lot to learn in the fact-finding mission on Saturday. A quick look at the form suggests round 5 could be one of the most one-sided of the season, but nothing can ever be taken for granted in Western Border football. The game which appears to have the most tantalising matchup will be North Gambier and Casterton Sandford, who are both determined to remain in the mix and victory this weekend will give that objective a big boost. The Cats hold the high ground a game clear in third position on the ladder, but have their tails between their legs following a touch up from top team South Gambier. Jack Thompson and Diarmid Cleary showed plenty of strength and grit around the ground throughout the contest, but across four quarters the Victorians were no match for the Demons' speed in the open. Casterton Sandford will aim to force North to play its style of football and test them throughout the afternoon. North has the capacity to beat the best, but needs to start running out full games of football. In the last three weeks the Tigers have been in winning positions against West, South and Millicent, but have let them slip. Lapses across passages of play and inaccuracy have undone the good work from the likes of Nick McInerney and Hamish Telford and they need to turn the results around to remain in touch of the top three. East Gambier v Millicent The 2018 Western Border Football League grand finalists enter their first battle of 2022 in contrasting positions on the ladder, but both are ready to build momentum from important wins as they brace for a special Indigenous game. For just the second time in WBFL history, a contest will be played celebrating First Nations people and culture and it will be a stage not to miss. Both teams will be decked out in stunning

Last Saturday we headed to Malseed Park to take on West Gambier in some windy conditions.
followed by Rhys Allen, Jasper Thomas, Travis Gilbert, Liam Hicks and Jack Donahue.
U14's with school holidays I think our boys were not prepared to get dirty and looked very pedestrian against a switched on West team. I heard Cooky told the lads to bring their mouth guards to training to work on some tackling best players Andy Perryman, Jarrod Carey, Cruz McCracken, Jarvi Mee, Riley Lawrence and Jackson Saunders.
Seniors was a tale of 2 halves first half was similar to the year so far with missed opportunities in front of goals to go in to half time 3 points down. Shep, Tim or Nookas must of put something in the water because the 2nd half was a different story intensity and commitment was well up.
U16's in a very good contest all day the game ended up in a unfortunate draw Angus Clarke and Ky McCracken who have been very consistent all season were 1st and 2nd best players respectively rounded out by Julio Teodoro, Noah Gollan, Elijah Stratford and Kyan Chittleborough . U18's have had a tough year with and handful of boys playing in the seniors all season and with coach Jason Dunn in iso Matt Scanlon looked after the lads to the boys credit they never gave up and continued to be positive best player was Alex Lillicrap who was down for the weekend followed by Angus Clark, Harlon Puhara, Kobi Wagener and Mitchell Price . Reserves was a one sided affair the guys were out worked for most of the day but there were some great plays during the day the guys just have to keep working hard on the track and it will come together. Tom Graney was probably one of the best couple of players on the ground and got 1st best
Conner Barry and ex roo boy Garret Ha owned the forward line with coach Scanlon providing direction and finding the banana peel hidden deep inside 50, Giancarlo Cooper providing the run through the mid field which gave the West coaching group a few headaches. Nick and Sam lock were solid in defence all day with this we ran away with it to record our 1st win of the season by 49 points. Best players were Conner Barry, Patrick Hatch, Sam Lock , Nick Lock, Garret Ha and Giancarlo Cooper. Big weekend ahead against Millicent with our indigenous game and Ray Adair memorial game which we couldn't have last year due to Rays family not being able to make it due to covid. Ray was a premiership president against Millicent back in 88, sponsor, volunteer and kept the bar fridges of Southwark Bitter in short supply for a very long time hope to see a big crowd. Mouse cup may 14th get on our Facebook book page follow the link tickets are selling fast.
Congratulations to Kobe Gibson and Jacob Todd on their Senior debuts against North in the twilight match. Many thanks to those spectators normally associated with MSEFL that attended and were treated to a fast, and at times highly skilled game. North created more attacking pressure in the early stages and enjoyed a quarter time lead. Our younger players began applying defensive pressure, forcing turnovers and moved the ball artfully to our active forwards to sneak ahead on the scoreboard. A small buffer was maintained for the rest of the game. The Reserves had a comfortable win. The return of a couple of experienced punters and the added zeal of some under-age players proved to be a good blend. Thanks to those lads who played two games.
After a slow start the U18's went to record a strong win. Eli Redman kicked 4, Kynan Dunn, Jackson Bowden and Tallan Dunn each kicked 2 with singles to Jacob Todd and Deegan Laslett. Best players were Jack O'Leary, Toddy, Tallan, Ty Lang, Eli and Austin Fuller. The U16's went down in a close one to an inaccurate North side. Kobe Gibson kicked 3 in a warm up for his Senior debut and Jett Werchon kicked 1. Best players were Jackson Bowden, Jett, Harry Gibbs, Brodi Sims and Teej Lawlor. The U14'2 had a convincing win with Cash Kenny kicking 3, Campbell Hateley 2 and 1 each to Max Hunt,
Millicent Red, Black & White Oakley Nicholls, Teej Lawlor, Beau Douglas and Cruz Gibson. Best players were Teej, Lenny Tunkin, Campbell, Liam Cawood and Naite Thomson. In a low scoring game in the 12A's, the Saints boys hit the lead in the dying minutes and held on for a 2 point win. Pacey Duldig was the lone goal kicker and best players were Byron Noble, Cruz Gibson, Ari Robbins, Henry Damhuis, Ryder Stratford and Levi Robbins. Better players in the 12C's were Colby Watson, Tyler Ryan, Brax Thomas, Pacey Duldig, Owen Loyd and Lacey Sunderland who laid a couple of bone jarring tackles. For the 12E's Frazer F l e m i n g , Te x T h o m a s , H a m i s h D a m h u i s , J a co b Gys b e rs , Tu l l y Robinson and Locky Murphy all got mentions. Many thanks to those who patronised Ladies Day for Cancer Support in the marquee and the spectators who supported the fund raising efforts. This week we acknowledge our Indigenous match against East Gambier. A big shout out and hearty thanks to Lorna Sutherland for her tireless and long standing Service to the Club. If you or a loved one has worn a Saints Senior guernsey in the last 20 years (plus some) it is pristine and fragrant thanks to Lorna!

BROCKKEDING
North Gambier Yellow & Black So, this week we headed down to Millicent, with a 2 hour sleep-in for some given the seniors kicked off at 5.00pm. While we had some ordinary weather throughout the day, conditions were probably at their best for the seniors, as promised by Joel. By the end of the seniors the crowd had built up with onlookers from the MSE, which is what both clubs were hoping for. We didn't get too many wins for the day, which is a credit to Millicents junior programme, which I know they have worked hard on over many years. The Under 14s couldn't get going and just need to keep working on the basics with coach Baron. Best players on the day were Esaie Kulimushi, Cooper Harris, Luca Roulstone, James Flett and Sam Baron. Despite kicking 3.14, the Under 16's returned to the winners list. Under coach Shepherdson, this team is showing the way for the club, with many players doubling up to help fill out the U18s – they will enjoy a 'rest' this week, having to only play one game. Aaron Dally was again named best player, with other regulars also being named in Gav Lapatha, Darcy Arthurson, Deacon Ilsley & Seb Doody.

you are reading this and want a game, or know someone else that does, please let Youngy know. Ethan Norman was named best player, with coach Young, Zayne Young, Jamie Williamson, Jay Turner and Jacob Arthurson rounding out the best players.
For the second week in a row, the A grade came away disappointed, with more scoring shots suggesting inaccurate kicking contributed to the loss. The tale of the tape however was the 2nd quarter when we allowed Millicent to kick 7.1. Again, we can be confident our best is good enough, but we need to play 4 quarters, which I am sure coach Hardy will be working on this week. We had another debutant in Will Thompson, who acquitted himself well, as did most of our young brigade. Best players were Hamish Telford, Nick McInerney, Tim McInerney, Joel Griffith, Dale Backmann and Elijah Firth. Today we welcome Casterton Sandford to Vansittart Park, with competitive games expected throughout the day. We have had a delivery of polo shirts, so if you need one you can purchase over the bar or head to Team App and purchase from the store, as you can with memberships.
The Under 18's hit the wall this week, being well beaten without Thanks to our major sponsors, most of our A graders, but playing Stuckey Electrical Contracts and against some of Millicents, who KFC. went on to play good games against in both games. Again, our U16s allowed us to fill a side, which was a huge effort by them. There were 3 standout best players in Darcy Arthurson, Jay (not Craig) Turner & Aaron Dally. Others to be named were Ned Haywood and Zach Nulty. The reserves struggled again, with injuries and unavailability affecting numbers. We really need to find the coach some more players, so if

Here we are Cat fans back at Vansittart Park, home of the Tigers, for the Feline Feud! Who will be the top Cat at the end of the day? Casterton-Sandford that's who!
Last we week we faced our Demons and learnt a lot, congratulations to Nathan Faroe and Mason Hunter on their first senior games in the hoops of the Cats, both played the roles given to them very well, great effort! I would hate to go to an Auction if the Auctioneers were Jack Thompson, Cody Ireland and Tom Foster , they were giving nothing away last weekend, making their opponents pay a high price for every possession. Diarmid Cleary and Ed Pritchard were like Kevin C o st n e r a n d S e a n C o n n e r y, Untouchable! Ducking and weaving around their opponents wracking up plenty of the pill. The Dylans, Ayton and Ryan are Veterans of the game but neither is slowing down, showing a clean pair of heels to any Demon who tried to catch them. The Cats second half showed that they will be a force in the games to come if they play with a similar conviction. Joey McArleins Reserves never stopped trying and it was pleasing to see that the club has a good lot of young guns coming through the ranks led by Chas Jarrad, who was in and under everything. He was ably assissted by his band of regulators in Rufaro Makore, Mitchell Bright, Sid Herbert, Jarvis Parsons and Jackson Fitzgerald, Kym Eagleson from South even paid tribute to Jackson after the game for his encouragement to his team-mates and his never say die attitude.
team that is for certain and the number one tackler in the team was named B.O.G. last week, Riley Hornibrook, Riley's arms would be imprinted on a few Demons players torsos still. Jack Wombwell was another to impress, hitting the packs hard around the ground and reading the play to perfection. Ricky Kaliebe, Rufaro Makore and Kaeden Talay were also rewarded for their efforts on the day. The Under 14s began the day well in the battle of the top 2 teams, leading at quarter time, but the young Demons were able to get their noses in front and despite the Cats best efforts, South were able to hold the lead and run out winners. Jedd Rhook was able to snare himself a couple of goals and in a good team effort was named best on along with the Dartmoor Flyer Connor Stephens, Billy Rhook, Archie Lane and Jack Rhook. After the senior game it was a good turn up for teas and the family Games night, thankyou to all the organisers, the social committee have a few good nights coming up so get along and support these events, a good time is guarenteed! Well Cat Fans we have yet to lose on the road in the Seniors and lets not start today, grab your food and drink early, settle back and give the old vocal chords a really good workout, Carn Cats! Thank-you to all our valued sponsors including Boonaroo, Nutrien Ag Solutions, Bendigo Bank, and Casterton Secondary College
Upcoming Events : May 15th - Champagne Breakfast (Sunday) The Under 16 Cats weren't able to pull off the heroics of the previous May 28th - Family Feud week but will be loooking to exact June 18th - Miss Casterton some revenge on the Tigers today, the young Cats are a hard tackling

South Gambier Red & White Another away game for us, at Island Park Casterton this week. Casterton Sandford is a club we have huge respect for, being a demographically challenged footy club which battles hard on and off the ground. We're assured of top order country hospitality and good banter when we meet the Casterton boys. The U14 game featured 2 unbeaten teams. After an even f i rst q u a r te r, t h e v i s i to rs gradually drew away to win 5622. Best players were Brody Fox, Lachlan Cameron, William Attiwill, Harrison Hicks and Jobe Harten.

with 14 goals (26 in two weeks). Best players were Kym Eagleson, Bryce Whicker, Riley Sturges, Christopher Williams, Chris Fallas and Luke Foran. Next week this team plays the undefeated West team. The seniors took on a home team which had won its past 2 games, off a 5-day break after Anzac Day and with two big injury outs in Brett O'Neil and Hamish Stevens. This gave a couple of in form boys from the reserves, Emerson Marks and Jackson Meyer playing his first game an opportunity, After appearing a danger game South largely put the game to bed early with a 6 goal to 2 first quarter then continued on to win 10149. Our wingers Brock Keding and Colby Munro had the ball on a string and were the best 2 players followed by Jake Tentye, Emerson Marks, Brodie Foster and Dane Handreck. A bus trip home via Nelson followed on which the 18th birthdays of twins Ethan and Noah Sims were well celebrated. Most bus goers arrived back in one piece.
As Casterton do not field an U18 team, the U16 game took the time slot so we had a better opportunity to watch this game closely. My goodness, they are a good team with many very handy players. 126-1 was the final scoreline, goalkickers and playing positions were well shared around. Best players were Matthew Thomas, Jake Richter, Jacob Salmon, Jared Kuhl and Angus Urquhart. It's worth turning up early for a look Next week it's West Gambier at these boys, the future of the f i n a l l y a t B L S P w i t h a Wimbledon-style table tennis club. tournament after teas and Onto the reserves who took on awards. an upbeat Cats team fresh from beating East last round. Our Best of luck to all Demons. ressies team is looking strong and with players to return to the senior team in coming weeks will only become stronger. 156-9 was a lopsided final score with goal machine Kym Eagleson again notching double figures

WITH NORTH TURFS OUT MILLICENT Tigers win tight game in first semi NORTH Gambier won a narrow five-point victory in the 1954 South East and Border Football League first semi final against Millicent, played at Penola’s big ground. It pushed the Magpies out of the finals series and the Tigers would then move into the preliminary final. The oval was at near capacity as the two teams came onto the field with Johnnie Taylor leading North and he won the toss. North were immediately into attack and Terry O’Donnell was freed right in front and goaled. Bowman for Millicent had opened strongly but his long kick fell short and North defence rushed the ball out of danger. As soon as the North centreline, led by youngster Trevor Probert, started to push forward they were met by the brilliance of Millicent centre half back Neil McDonald. His athleticism was amazing as he was either taking strong pack marks or gathering the ball on the run, dodging opponents and sending the Magpies back into attack. With Ray Thompson on top at full back and Eric Roughana during well at centre half back for North it became a battle of the half back lines and neither side were able to make a dent on the scoreboard. Probert was damaging in the centre but his long kick registered a behind as the wind and the weather elements started to play a big role in how the game would pan out. Peter Thompson then took a great mark up forward and put the Tigers two goals clear with a beautiful punt kick. The long striding, long kicking full back Ray Thompson raced down field to intercept with great judgement and then banged the ball 60 metres to the forward line where Peter Thompson rose above the pack to pull in a top mark and then goaled for his second in as many minutes. John Hanel in the back pocket was giving Ray Thompson plenty of support and they denied Millicent a major in that first term. First quarter: North 3.3, Millicent 0.3 In the second quarter the early part was dominated by the respective full backs – Ray Thompson (North) and Darkie Stevens (Millicent). They both took several saving marks on the
last line of defence as neither attacks could penetrate the defences. Attiwill was finding plenty of the ball across centre and he drilled a pass to coach Fred Bolton at full forward and put a drop kick through for Millicent’s first major of the afternoon. Across half back Pearce and Roughana were combining well to halt the Magpie attacks but Neil McDonald was doing much the same at the other end of the ground. Stevens charged down the ground, taking two bounces and then banged the ball into the half forward line where Gould snapped up the crumbs and passed to Bolton who again made no mistake for Millicent and suddenly North had a game on their hands. It was all Millicent as they charged forward time and again but Ray Thompson was in great touch at full back. Curyer who was now on top in the centre gathered and got the ball to Downes who kicked long over the pack and while it fell short it bounced and bounced and finally dribbled through for a major for the Magpies to allow them to hit the front for the first time in the game. Bolton took a mark on the siren and from 60 metres his kick just fell short to give Millicent a 13 point lead at half time. Millicent 5.5 (35), North 3.4 (22) In the third term Millicent were gaining plenty of advantage around the packs where Clive “Bub” Stevens and Attiwill were creative plus Curyer was now a dominant player, not only at the clearances but around the ground and his ability to hit teammates with his passes made him the big danger player for North. Then through good work from Taylor, he got the ball to Peter Thompson and he kicked his third to narrow the gap. Bub Stevens’ pace was worrying the Tigers and he continually raced down the open spaces on the Penola flanks to push the ball forward. Then, Roberts gathered at centre wing, got the ball to Taylor, who turned brilliantly out of trouble to pass to Joe Waters who made no mistake, then in a mini burst of brilliance Roberts again broke free and goaled on the run and North were back in front. It was during the midway point of the third quarter that the weather became terrible and heavy hail and gale force winds hit the ground.
GREENWOOD It rained heavily for the remainder of the quarter and players started to play in ankle deep water in some parts around the ground. Three quarter time: North 6.8, Millicent 5.5 With heavy rain falling play became congested as both teams used their defence to hold the score line. In the final term neither side kicked a goal. North did not score while Millicent added three behinds to narrow the gap to five points at the final siren. Adding to the problem for Millicent was their top ball winner Bub Stevens was injured into the final term and had to leave the ground and from there Millicent struggled to show the same dash that he provided. Peter Thompson finished with three goals while Fred Bolton did the same although he had limited opportunities. Ray Thompson was close to best man on the ground at full back and his height and baulk was handy in the many packs that were created, particularly when the rain came but he his aerial work was first rate. Captain coach Johnnie Taylor was everywhere and his disposal, even in the wet was excellent while Eric Roughana’s bullocking body work and dash from half back kept Millicent out time and again. Curyer was Millicent’s best and his drive from the midfield really tore North’s talented centreline apart. He also helped out in defence as a loose man. Attitiwill, Bub Stevens (until injured) and Neil McDonald were others to control their positions. • PHOTO: North captain-coach J o h n n i e Ta y l o r (pictured on the right) was among the Tigers’ best. MATCH REPORTS C A S T E R TO N SA N D F O R D V S O U T H GAMBIER On a high from a drought breaking Anzac Day victory, South Gambier was staring down a five goal half me deficit in its clash with Casterton Sandford.
MILLICENT V NORTH GAMBIER Smar ng from their first Anzac Day loss in a decade, North Gambier came out of the blocks firing at McLaughlin Park, proving that they always seem to match up well on the pacese ng Saints.
Enter young gun shooter Lara Munro. The promising South goaler had a quiet first half and was struggling with inaccuracy but however she did it, she flicked a switch and in the third quarter she shot an astonishing 21 goals without a miss to help turn that half me deficit into a nine goal three quarter me lead.
In what loomed as a ba le of the tall shooters, with Tabatha Sanderson domina ng under the post for Millicent and Caroline Wakefield, who was again named in North's best, and has been named in all four rounds of the 2022 season, neither disappointed.
Having shot only nine goals in the opening half, Munro dug deep and backed up the 21 straight in the third quarter with 13 from 14 in the last to totally change the complexion of the contest. Munro was not on her own with having a quiet first half and a li in intensity from goal keeper Grace Edwards and the injec on of the fresh legs of 17 & Under player Sophie Wight on the defensive wing also helped turn the game as Alyssa Duncan, Megan Reid and Tully McShane also found their mojo and the connec on in the a ack line and the ability to find Munro in space improved significantly. The Demons were missing defensive players Ellie Bouchier and Ruby Richter, while the Cats were without inspira onal mid courter Scarle Jarrad, who has been her side's best in the opening three rounds, due to injury, which probably explains both sides finding their feet in the opening half. Madalene Cleary in goal shooter for the Cats was her usual reliable self, presen ng strongly and also taking control of the a ack end of the court in the absence of Jarrad. At the other end, the first half lead for the home side was set up by the defensive intensity of Ebany Jarrad and Caeleigh Humphries, whose ba le with Duncan was one of the highlights of the match, while Tessa Marra at wing defence placed good pressure on the Demons feeders, while also providing cri cal in link play through the mid court. In the end, the 22-8 third quarter was the deciding 15 minutes of the contest, as was Duncan's perfect shoo ng in the first half, which kept the Demons in touch of the superior Cats. Mykaela Thiele's efforts at goal defence for the Demons was also pivotal, while South was also able to debut both Chelsea Ryan and Wight to give them a taste of senior ac on.
Millicent held a one goal quarter me lead as Sanderson ne ed a perfect 15 from 15, while Wakefield was strongly supported by young gun Macey Griffith who ne ed six from seven in her cri cal support role. The tables turned slightly in the second where Wakefield was the perfect shooter with 13 from 13, with the Saints taking a two goal lead into the main break. The arm wrestle con nued in the third with North reconfiguring its mid court with Ash Kalantarian moving to centre and Brianna Walters to the a acking wing and at the final change it was a one goal game with the Saints just in front. In a somewhat surprising move, it was Millicent who made the wholesale changes heading into the last. Lillie Paul returned to the court with the centre bib, Hannah Nitschke took the goal defence bib and Georgia Clarke moved out to wing defence. For a club that so o en backs its system and wears teams down it was a bold move and paid dividends. The home side won the final quarter 19-8 to produce a scoreline that did not truly reflect the ghtness of the contest, and, in turn, the closeness of the 2022 season across all six clubs. Millicent was best served by Demi Verbena and Paige Nitschke who did a mountain of work out the front of Sanderson, while North defender Mel Renko was the Tigers' best – not just for her ght checking defnsive efforts and ability to disrupt, but for her strong work through the mid court in transi on, while Wakefield again, with 42 from 47, was dominant.
WEST GAMBIER V EAST GAMBIER The clash at M a l s e e d Pa r k b e t w e e n t h e 2 0 2 2 contenders West Gambier and reigning premiers East Gambier was rollercoaster to say the least. At quarter me, the Roos were in control with a nine goal lead. Sarah Ri er, returning from her silver medal winning performance with the 19 & Under South Australian netball team at the na onal championships, was the dominant force with 15 from 19, while East just could not work their way through the Roos defence, genera ng only 10 scoring opportuni es and ne ng seven. You don't win premierships though if you are not a tough and resilient group and the Bulldogs responded at both ends of the court. The defensive line ghtened up and made it a lot tougher for the Roos to find their shooters in space, while at the offensive end, the frontline started to find be er connec on and use be er pa ence to find their way through the West defenders and by half me the margin had been cut to four. The Bulldogs switched their goalers at the main break, with Amryn Bosko moving to goal a ack and Sarah Lock back to shooter and the road back con nued, se ng up a tense final quarter with the Roos lead cut to two. But this Jekyll and Hyde contest con nued with West taking complete control, winning the quarter by 10 to secure a 12 goal victory. Ri er was again unstoppable under the post for the Roos, while East just could not generate enough scoring opportuni es, ne ng six from nine as a shoo ng combina on but just not ge ng enough of the ball. Emily Hunter ran hard all day for the Bulldogs, while Tyne Bosko is con nuing to d o m i n ate t h e co m p e o n o n t h e defensive wing, while Ri er was the Roos' best, with the hard running of Tara Bryant also cri cal.
ROUND PREVIEWS SOUTH GAMBIER V WEST GAMBIER Consecu ve victories are new for South Gambier and they are now coming up against the second ranked Roos, which will test the Demons 2022 improvement. West Gambier had an up and down contest with East before securing a comfortable victory but consistency has been an issue in the early going for West – it is just their good quarters have seen them dominate. The Roos have had strong starts in the opening four rounds so South will need to be ready to fire from the first whistle and not let West build up a buffer. It looms as the first week the Demons new defensive line of Grace Edwards and Ellie Bouchier will team up and they will need to b e o n s o n g a s t h e We st s h o o n g combina on of Lisa McGregor and Sarah Ri er are a formidable combina on that finish accurately. At the other end, Jade Ri er and Amy Cram will be tested by the good understanding development between Lara Munro and Alyssa Duncan and Munro's 21 straight in the third quarter at the weekend shows what damage the shooter can do. The mid court is the ba le of some of the associa on's best young talent with West's Mikaela Horrigan, Tara Bryant and Zoe Malseed taking on South's Tully McShane, Ruby Richter and Megan Reid so it will be the group that works the hardest and shows the most composure. West has rightly been crowned as the early season premiership contender and should rack up its fourth win for 2022 but South need to rise to this challenge and be super compe ve even if the upset eludes them. EAST GAMBIER V MILLICENT It is the 2021 grand final revisited but both sides look very different. The reigning premiers have lost Tenille Gray and Lisa Fyfe, while Millicent no
longer has the services of Lucy Denton, while Lisa Duldig is sidelined with injury. It means both sides are looking to build chemistry again. Sarah Lock and Amryn Bosko will only get be er as a shoo ng duo for East and they will need to work together to find a way through the tough defensive line of Por a McRae, Georgia Clarke and Hannah Nitschke. At the other end, East's Bo Creek and Morgan Amy are also looking to find their synergy in the defensive circle and they will rely on the pressure out front from Tyne Bosko, who has arguably been the best of the Bulldogs this season, and Emily Hunter, because Paige Nitschke and Demi Verbena have been feeding Tabatha Sanderson with such precision. The work rate of Tarsh McCallum will test the Saints defenders as she con nually presents to give her goalers me to find goo space in range and her combina on with Hunter through the mid court is arguably the best in the compe on. The bo om line is, Millicent is undefeated and East has split its opening rounds, and the changes for the Bulldogs have been more disrup ve giving the Saints the edge at this early stage of 2022. NORTH GAMBIER V CASTERTON SANDFORD A er challenging Millicent strongly for the first three quarters, North Gambier will be looking to extend that to a four quarter performance and claim the premiership points when it hosts Casterton Sandford this weekend. The Cats are also coming off a promising first half against South Gambier and will also be on the hunt for a more consistent four quarter effort.
too much supply to gun shooter Caroline Wakefield will be the main priority – a task that falls not just to athle c defender Ebany Jarrad but to her team mates out the front pressuring the feeders and that is where the work of goal defender Caeleigh Humphries and wing defender Tessa Marra. Cats coach Jodie Humphries would also have everything crossed that star mid courter Scarle Jarrad, whose game is built on applying relentless pressure to her opponent, will have recovered from her injury and able to lead the team. And given the North a ack line includes Brianna Walters, Ash Kalantarian and Macey Griffith, the Cats defenders will not be able to give them an inch as all three are all class with ball in hand and just do not make too many errors. The Cats a ack line was more organised at the weekend with Madalene Cleary under the post and her combina on with Charlo e Rice will only grow, while Gaby Tomkins is star ng to show glimpses of her 2019 form, while Chloe Foster gives her coach a great pinch hi er that can play anywhere on the court. The Cats will need to be pa ent with ball in hand, especially with Mel Renko cra ng plenty of turnover ball in the opening four rounds. The Tigers should get back on the winners list.

East Gambier Red & Black A GRADE - East 37 lost to West 49 Unfortunately, we only played half a g a m e o f n e t b a l l t o d a y. A disappointing start saw us chasing Wests tail. We were able to regroup though and make stronger passing options and drive in attack. 2nd & 3rd quarter defensive pressure helped create critical turnovers which got us back in the game. Couple of quick early goals from West in the last created cracks and we fell apart. We can’t let this happen again. Time to step up and work harder this week and be the team we know we have. Best Players – Tonique Burford & Raine Scott Awards – Tonique Burford (OK Pie Shop) Matilda Lamb (Hungry Jacks) 15A’s – East 21 lost to West 40 We had a fantastic start to this game, going out strong and fast for the first 2 quarters. The third quarter however, we seemed to lose our grit, our confidence, and our voices. The last quarter, we had some beautiful passages of play and there was more backing each other up, but it's obvious that we need to do some work on our fitness and our basic skills. We really need to find our loud voices next week, stay positive and try to focus more on our own game. With Annelise back this week from Nationals, it was great to see her fit back into the team nicely. Our defenders also put out really good pressure all throughout the court, great job girls!

A Reserve- Millicent 56 def North 50 Last week we welcomed back Annelise from her trip to Tassie for nationals. Also great to have Jackie back in the centre. Once again we got off to a great start brought about by some strong defensive work all over the court. North certainly came back strong in the second half narrowing the margin. Lets really value our possessions to build on our strong starts. Thanks to Abby for supporting us 13 & Under As- Millicent 36 def on the bench at very late notice. North 19 Another convincing win today B Grade- Millicent 53 def North 34 against a strong North team. Both teams worked hard for all four A more challenging game today, quarters, but it was the saints that which saw us change our game were able to convert from their under pressure. Once we adjusted defensive turnovers. Ashlee Dean and started playing our game, it finished off accurately, combining flowed nicely. It was a strong well with Tahnee Grosser or Kalani defensive game by all players, with Dunn who rotated into the goal turnovers created, being utilised in circle. The saints pressure all over attack. Many positional changes the court slowed the North side were made throughout the game, down and made it difficult to break but this didn't affect our flow and through our defensive line-up of we managed to keep building for a Emily Denton and Jeda Hibberd. 19 goal win. Great work. The saints versatile mid-courters focused on their front cuts with C Grade- Millicent 46 def North 28 Asha Gysbers being a strong option Great physical game, working hard down the court. Best players were all the way down the court. A more Emily Denton who received a challenging game for us today as voucher for Shearer’s Cook, and well, many positional changes were Asha Gysbers with the Fasta Pasta made throughout the game, but this didn't affect our flow of the award! game and ended up winning by a rewarding margin, great game girls.
15 & Under Bs- Millicent 19 lost to North 34 Good first half from the girls with tight defence from Millie and Eva which created turn overs, which were capitalised by good drives down the court from Lexi, Poppy and Bree for Zoe and Sarah to finish. With being 2 down at half time, unfortunately North came out strong in the second half to finish on top. A big thanks to Ashlee and Emily for sitting on the bench.
North Gambier Yellow & Black R4 - North Vs Millicent Under 11’s North 2 vs Millicent 36 We came up against another strong team today who played very well. We were all still on school holidays I think and struggled to put many scoring plays together. But we can take this game back and put all our energy into our practices and basic skills and look forward to playing our next game against Casterton. Best players: Isla Clark and Payton Bilney Under 13A’s North 19 vs Millicent 36 We knew Millicent will be a tough game and the players appeared to be intimidated. That lead to us making basic mistakes and throwing the ball away. We need to work on passing stronger passes and be more accurate. Moving our feet and coming forward when attacking needs more consistency. Our defence did well in getting intercepts. We just need to settle quicker after an intercept and use it to our advantage. The game against Millicent highlighted areas to work on. We are looking forward to applying this when we play Casterton next week. Best players: Lacey Allen (sponsored by Niche Homes) and Zoe Davison Under 13B’s North 6 vs Millicent 40 Today was a very tough day on the court! We knew Millicent were strong opponents, but we struggled to adjust. We repeated basic mistakes. The game provided honest reflection and learning opportunities to work harder on our shoulder passes as well as using court space to come forward and meet the ball. We are looking forward to do things differently for our next game against Casterton. Best players: Lacey Hunter Under 15 A’s North 48 vs Millicent 38 A very strong and physical Millicent provided North with the standard for 2022. North made a couple of passing errors allowed Millicent to be in front at each break going into the 3rd quarter. Change in positions saw North take their game to the next level and took control of the match. Ava Collins and Cara Nulty provided crucial tips and intercepts that allowed Macey Griffith and Elodie Adam to reward our defence end. Maggie Collins and Sara Brown created strong drives down the court and connected well from transitions. Another strong game from Kelsie Anderson and Ruby Mitchell, demonstrating why there two girls are a strong duo. A great team effort against a quality side. Best players: Ava Collins and Cara Nulty Under 15 B’s North 34 vs Millicent 19 This was a full court effort but this team, in what was Bella Stafford's 50th junior game for North. From GK to GS, everyone played well. The first half was a touch close, but we managed to pull away in the second half. Milly and Bella played awesome together in defence while Summer Tora and Tillie/Lily controlled the mid court. Some great positioning in the goal circle and accurate shooting saw the lead grow greater. Well done girls. Best players: Tora Jones sponsored by Greg & Christine Kennedy and Bella Stafford. Under 17’s North 41 vs Millicent 75 It was another big game for the girls this

week, as Millicent are always a very tough opponent. We started well, implementing the elements that we had been working on at training. Each player worked hard to do what they had been asked to do, resulting in some hard-fought turnovers and some very impressive plays in attack. Despite our defensive pressure and decisive offence, Millicent were too strong, increasing their lead at each break. Millicent played a great game, and we still have a number of areas we can improve on. Irrespective of the scoreboard, the girls demonstrated their ability to play great netball. They just need to work on stringing everything together for four quarters and believing in themselves. Best players: Lauran Norman and Zarly Jones (sponsored by Greg and Christie Kennedy) C Grade North 28 vs Millicent 46 Millicent proved to be a strong team today, but the North girls didn’t let them get away with it easily! Some very strong defensive pressure from North made it challenging for Millicent to move the ball down the court, resulting in many intercepts and turnovers. North attack was also strong, with the goalies moving well within the ring despite the pressure from the Millicent defence. Best players: Tara Fleming and Justine Forrest B Grade North 34 vs Millicent 53 North had a solid start despite some strong defence from Millicent. The team quickly picked up how Millicent was playing and increased the defensive pressure, picking up a number of intercepts and scoring accordingly. The goalies had to work hard in the ring, but their highly accurate shooting meant they were rewarded for their outstanding effort. Best players: Ash Ashby and Brianna Fuller
A Reserve North 50 vs Millicent 56 We were up for a tough game this week against Millicent who have a lot of height, speed and accurate shooting in their side. Our girls had our best game so far with fantastic persistent defensive pressure from Alysha and Elyse, hard running through centre from Amanda, and a lovely new combination in the goal ring from Riley and Cara. Unfortunately, we couldn’t get the win in the end, but there were lots of positives to take into games moving forward Best players: Amanda O’Shaughnessy and Alysha Coon (sponsored by K&S) A Grade North 55 vs Millicent 67 It was a tough ask against a very fast scoring Millicent side, who can score quickly and have solid structures in place. We played a good defensive game and were able to turn ball over each quarter and are working on scoring from these gains. Zahra in GK played a persistent and measured game against Millicent’s target shooter. She confused space and moved around the body beautifully all game. We made some changes in the mid court to help our movement. We stayed with them for 3 and 1/2 quarters. In the end, our conversion to goal and break down in attack let us down in the end. What a great effort by everyone and now we know the standard we need to play at to match up with the top teams. Best players: Zahra Crough-Heaton and Ash Kalantarian
Casterton-Sandford
Round 4 saw the CastertonSandford Netball Sides taking on the South Gambier Demons at Island Park. With slight drizzles early in the day, the bad weather held out to let us celebrate some milestone games this week. In the juniors we saw Chelsea Hulm, Indi Longhurst & Sarah Richardson, each play their 50th games, while in the seniors we saw Dakota Crawford play her 50th game & an even bigger congratulation to Lauren Cleary for playing her 200th game. Great effort & congratulations girls, keep doing us proud! SENIORS: Unfortunately the senior teams were only able to come away from Round 4 with 1 out of 5 wins.
Blue, White & Red winning except the Under 11’s. But wasn’t that a nail-biting game. Cleo & Isabella led the Under 11’s into a tough match last week. With the ball going from either attacking end as the defensive players made turnover after turnover, the 10-11 scoreline was an unlucky loss. The quick passages of play in the Under 15A’s caught the South team off-guard, and allowed Chelsea, Indi, Amy & Olivia to get the team a convincing win 32-18. Under 15B players in Indi, Chelsea, Charlotte & Nicole kept the communication lines open and backed each teammate up to make the most of each possession, winning 36-25. The Under 13A’s had a close game, but with the ball skills displayed by Makayla, Rachel & Marlee, they were able to sneak away with a 6 goal win 20-14. What a game was played by Georgia, Ella, Adele and the other girls in the Under 13B’s to win 25-0. These players put on a performance, with each team member pushing themselves, and each other to hold the South Gambier team to a nil score line all game.
The A Grade side put up a tough fight but lost with a score line of 41-55. Madalene, Tessa, Chloe & Gaby provided excellent passages of play keeping the South girls on their feet. Mikayla’s accuracy in the goal ring , Joanna’s strength in defence & Bridie’s precision through the midcourt, led the A Reserve team to their first victory for the season 51-39. Lets hope these girls can put another win on the board next round! Well done to everyone this week & good luck for Round 5 against B G r a d e C a t s g i r l s w e r e North Gambier. challenged as soon as they See below images of our girls stepped on the court by the skill that achieved their milestone of the South team. Despite games last week! Annalee & Ebony’s endless effort the girls lost 37-49. The 20 goal loss (35-55) seen in the C Grade, didn’t reflect how determined the girls were to top South Gambier. Janine, Brittany, Michelle & Kim demonstrated terrific sportsmanship alongside the rest of the team. Ebany, Makayla, Phoebe & Chloe were strong presences on the court in the Under 17’s on Saturday morning. Unfortunately out-skilled, they weren’t able to get away with a win losing 45-66. JUNIORS: The Casterton-Sandford juniors showed the rest of the club how it was done, with all teams

Can’t really avoid talking about Lara Munro this week… after a shaky start in the A Grade, being down by five at half time, the team rallied and Lara’s 21 from 21 in the third certainly helped turn the game around… It was great for the girls to score consecutive wins and it was great to have Grace back and to debut Sophie Wight and Chelsea Ryan and good to see the girls rally without regular team member Ruby Richter and Ellie Bouchier… Thanks to Rachel and Toni for again stepping up and helping with coaching the A and A Reserve – we are lucky as a club to h ave s o m a ny p e o p l e prepared to roll their sleeves up and help out… The B & C Grade also deserve a pat on the back – with only nine regular players between the two teams available, it was great to see them both secure a win with the Ella Egan backing up for best player performances in both grades and youngsters like Jade Jennings, Lily Cain, Maddison Harrold and Gracie Dalton playing their role… Let’s face it we thought the opening round against Millicent was going to be our to u g h e st c h a l l e n ge w i t h personnel but each week we keep plugging the holes thanks to so many amazing club people stepping up…fingers

Special thanks to Leyna, Tash Attiwill and Tracy McShane who have gone above and beyond with the whistle… We are now back home for a couple of weeks so let’s all try and get back to the club for a drink or two or a meal… Just a reminder to those of you who haven’t registered yet – let’s log on and get it done…
West Gambier
This week we take on South at Blue Lake Sports Park. Following the days games we will be heading upstairs at The Commercial Hotel for teas and all junior and senior presentations, at 6pm. We would love to see as many players and supporters there as possible, to support one of our major sponsors! Last week we welcomed East to Malseed park, the results from the day were:
Under 11s - West 9 – East 10 The girls played a great game on Saturday. It was great to welcome back Miah and Molly after missing last week. East got off to a great start. We made some changes in the 3rd quarter that put us back in the game. Was great to see Phoebe get her first goal. Best players Mackenna Povey and Chaniel Cowland U/13B - West 13 – East 7 Top game last week against East who came out firing, West were a little flat and had a bit of a slow start. Staying in front for the whole game the girls did an outstanding job and did what they were asked to do. There are still things to work on, but there were some brilliant plays throughout the game. The girls pulled together and came away winners. Thanks to Libby for sitting bench. Let’s go west!! Best players Matilda Neale and Sara Richards Game day awards Ella Mckenny and Sara Richards U/13A - West 46 – East 8 A great team effort and it was pleasing to see the girls apply what they learnt at training. We need to keep up the hard work so these things become second nature. A top effort by Brydee and Swaye working tirelessly to consistently come for ward to the ball and create opportunities for the goalies. Best players Swaye Lindner and Analeigh Anderson Game day awards Brydee Starrick and Swaye Lindner U/15B - West 36 – East 13 In our first glimpse of wintery netball weather to come, our girls came together as a team to defeat East by a convincing 23 goals. The girls worked really hard on a few different plays, and it really showed. The girls are showing great grit in their game, and are becoming closer as a team. A special mention to our goalies who worked together amazingly in conjunction with our entire defence in over turning the ball and getting it down our end. Best players Macy Pearson and Miley Vivian U/15A - West 40 – East 21 A great win for the team giving them a much needed confidence boost. Tully Lindner played a strong mid court position, bringing the ball from defence to the ring and making use of the open space. Ella Jolley shooting with great accuracy and confidence. The defence pressure and the goalies working beautifully together helped the team push through for a great win.
DENTON’S
Blue & Red Well done girls. Best players Tully Lindner and Ella Jolley Game day awards Tully Lindner and Mikayla Pearson
U/17 - West 28 – East 21 The under 17 girls had their first win this week. The entire team played extremely well. Halle Boult was a master of all trades playing WA, C and GS. Amity Sheedy was our star in WA for the first half. Our goalies Jordy Heraper and Alisha Pearson were on fire in the goal circle, not letting many get away at all. Best players Maddie Millich and Hannah Seidel Game day awards Halle Boult and Amity Sheedy C Grade - West 22 – East 61 Another tough game for the team as we took on East, despite the score the girls fought hard the whole game and we were able to implement a few things we have been practicing at training. An awesome effort seen by our defence to hold up the East shooters. Some lovely passages of play seen by our mid court to get the ball into our shooters. Our shooters put up a strong fight against some very experienced defenders. We look forward to working on improving our skills some more over the next week as we prepare to take on the Demons in the next game. Best players Emily Sutherland and Olivia James B Grade - West 30 – East 46 Best players Abby Egan and Kellie Buck A Reserve - West 34 – East 42 The girls had a physical battle against a determined East line up. It took us a while to settle, adjust to the pace of the game and work on our game plan. Everyone put in consistent efforts throughout the match and we managed to claw back the margin but unfortunately we couldn't come away with the win. Keep your heads high girls, their are still lots of learnings to come from that match. Best players Jasmine Davey and Chelsea Tremelling A Grade - West 49 – East 37 It was an ugly win but we got there in the end. I'm proud of the way we were able to fight through 2 poor quarters to finish the game strong. We need to focus on consistency but with a settled side (hopefully) heading into next week's game, the consistency we are after will come. Our defence was outstanding once again and our attack showed patches of brilliance. It was nice to welcome back Jade and Sarah who both had a big impact on the game. Tara's hard running and drives were outstanding, opening up our attack end. Lets finish the first round off on a high!! Best Players Sarah Ritter and Tara Bryant Good luck to all of our teams today! Keep your eye on the red and the blue!!
