F.L. home battle against South Gambier will be a different kettle of fish. Although the West backline has held strong in recent weeks keeping East and Millicent below 50 points, the challenge of restricting the Demons to the same figure will not be easy. South is the highest scoring side in the competition being the only team to kick more than 700 points with Brayden Kain, Brodie Foster and many others further up the ground hard to stop. Kain said he is comfortable with where his team currently sits, but hopes the best is yet to come with a stronger team expected. “This bye has come at a crucial time for us because we have had some young players step up and fill the void with the team not being at full strength,” he said. “Then after the bye hopefully we will be able to comeback at full strength with a couple of players coming back after resting up. “So we are really looking forward to the pointy end of the year and hopefully we can gain more momentum.” It has been a year of change for the Roos with Daron McElroy arriving at the team as coach and many personnel changes. Despite this West has been able to scrape enough wins to sit fourth and assistant coach Nathan Lewis said McElroy has brought a lot to the team and things are starting to come together ahead of a huge run to September. “He is doing a great job and we are just starting to get a bit of belief,” he said. “Apart from lapsing for a few periods, but we are able to sustain good pressure and as a young side we are running out games pretty well. “Our goal is to make finals and we are starting to talk about maybe upsetting some of the teams above us and playing South on our home deck is a great opportunity to try and make a statement.”

Welcome back to McLaughlin Park after a big break and welcome to our valued Sponsors and Partners on Sponsors Day. The value and contribution to the MFNC is greatly appreciated and we encourage our club to support all these businesses!! We are backing this onto our MND game. A hugely worthy cause in raising money for Motor Neurone Disease research with MND affecting past president, and all round MFNC supporter Terry Mead. Terry remained involved at a number of levels even after moving away and back home a ga i n , a n d d e s e r ve s o u r respect and support. Big Thankyou to all our club p e rs o n s fo r d r i v i n g t h i s initiative. Also, Welcome to Ash Falla and the “Ballarat boys” … Catching up with these lads and celebrating Millie's life with Ash is always one of the days we are proud to share each year, and which makes up a part of who we are as a club! The Reserves had a good win for BTs 250th, getting plenty of the ball at stoppages and using it to advantage. Generally, the guys used the ball wisely to bring other players into the game. Led by Nat, players pushed back to support the backline and created space and options. Ferg got some crafty touches to link players. The Seniors got the worst of the weather and worked through it business like for another win. Dylan worked hard up forward with the challenges of the conditions, providing an option and creating further space. Backline were solid with their reading of the play and attack on the ball. They were also creative with smart usage of the ball. Fraze and Kade were swift and clean with their possessions. A couple of wins set the tone for an enjoyable and well

patronised Race Night back at the club. The slightly undermanned 18s went down to a solid performance from North with Tallan kicking 3. Best players, Gibbsy, Charlie, Kobe, William Wilson, Ashton and Teej stepping up from 14s. Our 14s had a solid win… Campbell kicked 3 and 2 each to Beau and Tunks. Best players Tunks, Teej, Beau, Campbell, Gronny and Adam Smith. The 12 A team lost by 18, Awards to Mitchell Tarrant (Maccas) and Campbell McMullan (Fasta Pasta). Best players Levi Robbins, Henry Damhuis, Cruz Gibson and Ryder Stratford. 12 C awards went to Brax Thomas (Fasta Pasta), Raff Lawlor (Bakers Delight) Colby Watson (Footy Cards) Also, must mention a couple of netball guns, Congratulations to Demi Verbena on her 150-game milestone and, huge Congrats to Lisa Duldig on a massive 350 game milestone. Lisa actually played her 350th game on GF day last year and in typical selfless fashion didn't want to have that take away from her team on the day! Then from a knee injury early this year and a few other hiccups (bloody covid) on the way we have finally been able to acknowledge her in the right way!! Well done to you both.

With the rain pouring and oval very heavy under foot we hosted cross town rivals West Gambier we had a great start to the day with the u14s having a big win to right the wrongs of last round best players were Riley Lawrence, Jarvi Mee, Cruz McCracken, Banjo Sampson, Andison Perryman and Jaiden Picken.
Seniors was a low scoring game but we had our chances. We were in it till the last 10 minutes but couldn't finish the game off, too compound the loss we lost Giancarlo Cooper for the year with a serious ankle injury best of luck on a speedy recovery and look forward to you tearing it up next season.
U16s fought all day but were just out classed in the end best players were Elijah Stratford, Sam Couldrey, Kyan Chittleborough, Ky McCracken, Nicholas Bignell and Julio Teodoro.
Congratulations to the lads who represented us in the interleague carnival in u15 and u17s and special mention too Angus Clarke and Keenan Dwyer for making the team of the carnival in the u17s.
U18s fought all day but were just under manned with p l aye rs p l ay i n g u p a n d unavailability the guys are not giving up which is a huge tick for the coaches and players best players Lay Bee H to o, N i c h o l a s B i g n e l l , M i t c h e l l P r i c e , Ke e n a n Dw yer, Saw Nai and Ky McCracken.
The auction night coming up July 2nd keep an eye out Facebook page or get a hold of Alex Quick for more information. This week down in millicent the club will be wearing black arm bands to honour Marylyn Salievic a great lady who will be sorely missed.
Reserves were competitive in patches but just couldn't sustain it for long enough in tough conditions best players Liam Hicks, Dylan Howard, Travis Gilbert, Connor Little, Adam Todd and Sam Forster.

Last weekend was a busy one for our club with the 1992 / 1997 / 2002 reunion on Friday night followed by the President's lunch o n S a t u r d a y w i t h e xc e l l e n t attendance at both functions. We really appreciated the support of our Casterton Sandford friends on Saturday before, during and after the game. Thanks also to all those who travelled from afar to attend.
The football went well with all grades winning. The seniors played an even team game with the result (83-19) never in doubt. Goals were well shared and best players were Emerson Marks, Mitchell Harrold, Todd Reid, Mitchell Sims, Mason Hein and Kaleb Bowd. Great to have Scott Enderl play his first game for us this season. Branden Telford played his first senior game congratulations mate! The reserves was a one-sided game, we acknowledge the effort the opposition put in to field a team week in week out. 144-0 final score with Elliott Fisher notching 8 goals and Kym Eagleson 6. Best players Elliott Fisher, Hugh Winterfield, Christopher Williams, Luke Foran, Bryce Whicker and Kym Eagleson.
Red & White boys more game time. 92-18 with best players Finn O'Reilley, Addison Sims, Angus Urquhart, Jake Richter and Sam Domaschenz. 58-8 in the U14 game after an even first quarter. Best players Harrison Ellis, William Attiwill, Hudson Croser, Harrison Hicks and Brody Fox. This week the SANFL have held meetings with all WBFL and MSEFL clubs to discuss what football in this region will look like from next year onwards. These discussions are always challenging, our football clubs are important to all of us. Personally I struggle to see how a merger of the 2 leagues will result in better football or more people playing but the decision may be taken out of our hands. We will try to keep you as updated as possible in coming weeks.
On a brighter note there is a bye this week followed by an away game the week after vs West Gambier. That night, July 18, is our annual Red & Rump night. This is always the best night of the year and this year we have the services of comedian Benny Darsow to entertain us. Please start thinking Casterton Sandford don't field a a b o u t b o o k i n g a t a b l e a n d thirds team. With a number of U16 supporting your club. WITH FROM THE ARCHIVES A WITNESS TO THEIR LIVES Saluting the champions: SIMPSON TWINS Star twin ruckmen chose umpiring over playing ANYONE growing up in the early 1960s and attending the Mount Gambier Technical High School (now Grant) would know of the talent of the Simpson twins. James and Phillip were both tall for their age when they started high school at 12 in 1961 and turning 13 that same year (first year or year eight). The Tech School played in the inter-school football competition against Mount Gambier High School teams and Marist Brothers College but because the school started with only first year (year eight) students in 1961 (most turned 13 that year) they were always at a disadvantage playing against older and much more mature opponents who were as old as 16 or 17 (year 11 or Leaving). Of course, this later changed as these same players grew older and were then playing at the same age level as other sides. (By the mid 1960s Tech was playing in an inter-school competition which included four Mount Gambier High Schools teams and one from Marist Brothers College). However in 1961 that was not the case, but neverthe-less the school had plenty of talent coming through at that time and among those who stood up to the bigger and older bodies of the other schools were young ruckmen James and Phillip Simpson who were twins. Just to digress for a moment and highlight some of the talent that came through those early years (1961-62) at the Tech School, they included Dennis “Shiner” Smith (East A grade football and six times Barber Shield premiership cricketer), Brian Norman (South Gambier, South Adelaide and Port MacDonnell coach and multi Barber Shield premiership wicket-keeper batsman), David Clark (East, WBFL Medal winner, Nangwarry coach and Mid SE Mail Medal winner. He is the only player to have won both WBFL and Mid SE Medals. He was also a multi East premiership player and at one stage held the record for the number of A grade games) Ian Von Stanke (Kongorong), Roger Kukla, (East and 1960 primary school best and fairest winner) Frank Jankowitz (East who was one of the youngest to play league with the Bulldogs), Hadyn Mansell (South and also SAPSASA state team and 1963 South Barber Shield premiership wicket-keeper and batsman), Roland Tobin (South 1963 senior colts premiership player), Peter and Basczel
Whitehead (South) and Peter won a Mail Medal at Nangwarry and both were South premiership players. Other footballers included Bradley Bignell (Glencoe), Tinus Klaassens (South and Tarpeena), Gary Turnbull (South - the Dutton/Playford Street Turnbull as opposed to the Turnbulls of Nelson Street), John McKie (East football and cricket, opening batsman and wicket-keeper), Bob Attiwill (South footy and cricket with Yahl) who starred at half back in the early 1970s before a serious injury after a car accident halted his footy career, Robert Taylor (East) who was a tough and fearless rover who was captain of East’s senior colts and would later captain East B grade and Ray Hoogstad played in some of East’s top senior colts sides before moving into senior ranks. Alf Howell and Robert Crafter who both played school footy but make their mark in basketball with Howell playing a pivotal role in Dragons’ demolition of super power team of the 1960s Trotters, winning the 1967-68 A grade premiership and halting Trotters chances of winning three premierships in succession. Trotters would go on to win three flags in four years. Crafter played A grade for YMCA and Panthers and represented Mount Gambier for many years as well playing against a visiting European international side.
GREENWOOD the local football clubs which were all keen to sign the two young stars. Their ability as boundary umpires soon attracted the attention of the SE and Border Football League authorities and they were promoted to A grade during the 1963 season which was the last of that league before the merger to form the Western Border Football League in 1964. Then on the eve of the 1963 SEBFL grand final the twins made history when they were chosen to run the boundary in the A grade game between Penola (eventual premiers) and North Gambier, the defending premiers. James and Phillip by that stage had yet to turn 16 and it was believed it was the first time in league history that twins had been selected to officiate as umpires in a grand final. The twins had earned their stripes with solid performances right through the minor round and league officials had their “eye” on them and when their appointments were announced it made front page news. In the accompanying photograph the only way to distinguish between the two was that James now had a shorter hair style. While they chose to move into umpiring there is little doubt both could have become top A grade footballers had they stayed in the game.
Wayne Kilpatrick, a left footer, played school • PHOTO: Phillip (left) and James (right) Simpson football but would later be a champion title prepare for their big game as boundary umpires winning A grade tennis player and coach as well as on the eve of the 1963 SEBFL grand final. playing Major A baseball with Central as a first baseman and also was a member of Mount Gambier’s 1972 Victorian Provincial Baseball League title winning team, playing at right field in the grand final. So from this one can see that the Simpson twins were among good company in 1961. Both twins were blessed with amazing leaping ability and played as the schools’ two ruckmen. They were identical twins so it was virtually impossible to tell them apart, but it was their ruck and aerial work, pulling in some amazing marks in the packs and their general all-round footy skills which made them stand-outs for their school team. They progressed through the 1961 season and into 1962 with the school but by 1963 they had both decided to turn to boundary umpiring - to earn a little money on the side but also to contribute to the game. Their decision to turn to umpiring was a loss for

A twelve me premiership player, four me premiership coach and her career is far from done – it’s a resume the envy of most and it’s only the p of the iceberg. Millicent mid courter Lisa Duldig treasures the team achievements and also has a swag of individual accolades, and she has now passed another milestone - her 350th senior game as a Saint. Universally revered, Lisa’s career started back in 1997 as a member of Millicent’s 15 & Under team. She was again in that age group the following season when her proud history of represen ng Western Border also started, in the 15 & Under team, as well as selec on in the South East regional team. As illustrious as her club career has been, her representa ve career is also impressive, with junior representa ve supplemented by 10 years of being part of the A Grade team, including the 2011, 2015, 2017 and 2019 SA Country tles. Lisa was named in the Top 10 Players of the Championship on three of those occasions. It was as a 15 year old, in 1999, that Lisa started her A Grade career and only a year later that the teenager was part of the drought breaking premiership, ending 15 years without the ul mate success. That drought breaking tle saw a dynasty established with the Saints crowned premiers 17 of the 22 tles contested since – interrupted only by a North Gambier three-peat from 2003-05 and the upset Hamilton victory of 2008 and last year’s breakthrough win by East Gambier in an over me epic. Lisa spent the majority of the golden era of Millicent netball alongside Hayley Dunn, Donna Denton and Audine Bryant and despite that trio’s impressive careers, Lisa sits comfortably in their company and well and truly no longer in their shadow. She has been selected by her peers in the Western Border team of the year on 12 occasions and has been named coach of that team on four occasions. Donna Denton has been there for much of Lisa’s netball journey and her achievements and eleva on to a 350 game revered player at the club is no surprise to her highly decorated team mate. “She does the work,” Denton said. “She works really hard. She has always wanted to improve her game and to be the best she could be sine she was 15. She has stuck at it. She is a reliable a acker and safe with the ball. She also works so hard defensively and to turn the ball back and she does that all day long.” Put anyone on the spot to come up with one word to describe Lisa and consistent would o en be the adjec ve of choice. “She is such a consistent performer,” Denton said. “She plays the whole game at a very steady pace. She just chips away and supports the players around her and she always stays posi ve throughout.” Lisa has been a player, junior and senior coach and commi ee member over her 25 year journey and shows no signs of slowing down, having only missed the 2006 season to travel and the 2012 and 2016 seasons when she was pregnant with children Pacey and Edie respec vely. Lisa was inducted as a Western Border Netball Associa on life member in 2018.

150
This weekend Demi Verbena will play her 150th Senior game for the Millicent Saints against East on Saturday the 18th of June. In 2006, Demi began playing netball with the Saints at the age of 13. As a junior player, she was highly decorated, winning a Western Border medal or runner-up in her 13s, 15s and 17s. Her undoubted skill and passion for the game was rewarded when Demi became a full me A grade Player in 2008 and went on to be a part of the runners up A grade premiership side that same year. In just her second year as an A grade player at the young age of 16, Demi won her first A grade premiership and was awarded the best on court for this game. This success con nued throughout her career, with another four A Grade premiership tles in 2010, 2011, 2018 and 2019 when she was awarded another best on court, also earning the A grade best & Fairest in 2019 and joint tle in 2018. Demi’s talents were also recognised at a league level, represen ng Western Border in 2011, 2018 and 2019 and making the A Grade team of the year in 2018 and 2019. While Demi is an excellent goalie for our A Grade netball side, she has also contributed an extensive amount of her me to our club, sharing her netball knowledge through coaching the 17 & Under side in 2011 & 2019, as well as coaching the A grade side in 2018 to a premiership. She has also been a member of the ladies commi ee and is always willing to give up her me to volunteer. All of Demi’s family members Jacqui, Reebs, Tiarna, Emily and Jack have played for the Millicent saints, also with the support of her partner Caleb, so it’s no wonder Demi is so passionate about her netball and has given so much of her me to this club. Demi is a star player and a role model for others around her, and we wish her a big congratula ons and all the best for Saturday in her 150th game.

MATCH REPORTS NORTH GAMBIER V MILLICENT North Gambier got a glimpse of the future at the weekend and while the scoreline was lopsided in its clash with Millicent, it gave some of the rising Tiger stars a chance to test themselves against the compe on benchmark of the past decade. Missing experienced stars Caroline Wakefield and Mel Renko and with crea ve mid courter Ash Kalantarian sidelined it saw Cara Nulty and Elyse Willoughby earn another call up to the top grade, with Lauran Norman adding to her A Grade resume. It was a tough ask though with a se led Millicent line-up playing four methodical quarters with clinical ball movement and accurate finishing. Tabatha Sanderson and Demi Verbena were unstoppable in goals, ne ng 74 from 82, while at the other end, Hannah Nitschke was domina ng the defensive end with great support from Por a McRae and Georgia Clarke. Every me the Saints created a turnover the mid court of Paige Nitschke and Lisa Duldig moved the ball with impressive speed and with Verbena either finding Sanderson in space or finishing her self, Millicent powered to a 34 goal victory. S O U T H G A M B I E R V C A S T E R TO N SANDFORD In the end, the strong start from South Gambier ensured they took the points over Casterton Sandford at the weekend.
Lara Munro dominated the opening quarter with 14 from 17 as she received great delivery from Alyssa Duncan, Megan Reid and Tully McShane, while at the other end, Ruby Richter, Ellie Bouchier and Sophie Wight combined to deny the Cats me and space and were it not for Casterton Sandford's accurate finishing, the scoreline would have been worse.

Coming off a victory over Millicent, West was looking to consolidate but trailed by one at the first change a er a dominant quarter from Amryn Bosko in the shoo ng circle.
The Cats clicked into gear in the second, with Cleary finding much more of the ball to score nine goals herself, while the hard running of Scarle Jarrad and the defensive efforts of Ebany Jarrad started to get the match on an even keel and the nine goal quarter me lead was cut to seven by the half. The third quarter followed a similar script as both sides were plagued by errors, both decision making and skill, and going into the final quarter, the Cats were s ll a chance, trailing by eight. The Demons regrouped, though, again denying scoring opportuni es to the Cats frontline, and were it not for the five from five finishing from Lane and Cleary, the scoreline could have blown out even more. In the end, with Munro again domina ng the circle and McShane con nually hi ng the circle's edge and connec ng with her shooter, South was able to work its way to a 15 goal final victory margin. East was s ll missing Sarah Lock, who is ba ling a calf strain, and in the end, in the tough wintry condi ons, the defensive efforts of the Roos saw them secure a 10 goal victory.
A perfect shoo ng quarter from Claire Hunter for West in the second quarter saw scores ed up at the main break and then West's defensive effort really stepped up, limi ng the scoring opportuni es for the Bulldogs and a 2313 second half sealed the deal. Amy Cram dominated the back half for West with her ability to read the play and shut down me and space for the opposi on and she also played a key role in transi on with safe ball movement the order of the day in the condi ons. Tara Bryant was also important in both aspects of the game, ge ng some important turnover touches, as well as running hard in offence to con nually present un l the best op on in the shoo ng circle opened up. Hunter was also cri cal, ne ng 33 from 37, with two perfect shoo ng quarters, including the last. Amryn Bosko was the best for the Bulldogs as she proved to be the focal point in the shoo ng circle, while Bo Creek kept East in the match with her ability to disrupt defensive West's a acking forays.
ROUND PREVIEWS MILLICENT V EAST GAMBIER The Saints are flying and there is no reason not to think they will comfortably take care of the Bulldogs. While the reigning premiers are yet to be able to put out their preferred star ng seven, Millicent has been finetuning their ball movement and their relentless defensive pressure and will be looking to con nue cemen ng a top two finish. Tabatha Sanderson and Demi Verbena have been prolific in the shoo ng circle for the Saints and with top shelf supply from Paige Nitschke, Lisa Duldig, who has made a welcome return for Millicent and will be playing her 350th game for the Saints, and young guns Daisy Tunkin and Lillie Paul. At the other end of the court, Georgia Clarke, Hannah Nitschke and Por a McRae are a formidable defensive unit and they will make life tough for the somewhat unse led Bulldogs frontline but with Tarsh McCallum and Emily Hunter the key players delivering the ball, errors will be few and far between. Bulldogs defenders Morgan Amy and Bo Creek will need the help of their team mates to make their job easier to deny Verbena and Sanderson too much ball, while the Saints will be wary of the aerial skills of the East defensive duo. Millicent is just too se led and has too much depth to let this one slip. C A ST E RTO N SA N D FO R D V N O RT H GAMBIER The Cats host the Tigers this weekend and it will be another tough day out for Casterton Sandford with North Gambier, their round nine performance aside, when they were missing a number of key players, building nicely as they look to cement a top four finish. North Gambier has Caroline Wakefield back in goals and she has been in
outstanding form with both the amount of ball she is winning but also her impressive conversion. She is teaming with youngster Macey Griffith who is coming off an outstanding Long Weekend represen ng Western Border in the 15 & under age group and the duo, who receive good supply from the hard running Brianna Walters, will test the young Cats defensive line, that includes Ebany Jarrad and Caeleigh Humphries and has also seen Charlo e Rice play a defensive role from me to me. Jarrad and Humphries are tenacious and will contest everything but they will rely on pressure from their mid court team mates Tess Marra and Scarle Jarrad to not allow easy delivery into the shoo ng circle. The defensive end of the Tiges has been less se led but with Mel Renko anchoring the defensive unit, the Tigers will always be hard to score against and her ba le with Madalene Cleary will be one of the pivotal clashes. The Cats always fight hard but North Gambier will bounce back to the winners list in style.
Jade Ri er and Amy Cram. The mid court of Megan Reid and Tully McShane will need to value possession and work hard to find a way through the tough defensive duo and the ba le of the mid court will be cri cal as Reid McShane and Ruby Richter go head to head with Zoe Malseed, Tara Bryant and Mikaela Horrigan. Sarah Ri er might be back from her knee injury, but, if not, Claire Hunter has proven a more than capable replacement, while Lisa McGregor con nues to lead the Roos a ack line and can work with either shooter seamlessly. West should be far too strong but if the demons can stay with the home side early, it could be a more intriguing scoreline than their first encounter.
WEST GAMBIER V SOUTH GAMBIER West Gambier looms as the compe on benchmark and the Roos know they have to have comprehensive wins over sides like South Gambier to enhance that reputa on. The last me the two met it was the only significant defeat the Demons endured in the opening round in what was a disappoin ng performance and South will be looking to get off to a much stronger start. South goalers Alyssa Duncan and Lara Munro are coming off a Long Weekend where they combined in goals to lead the Western Border to the 17 & Under SA Country championships tle and they will need to be at their best as they take on

Casterton-Sandford Blue, White & Red The Casterton Sandford girls didn’t let some rain get in the way of taking to the court against South Gambier last weekend. some well timed intercepts, but unfortunately couldn’t finish the match on top losing 47-64.
JUNIORS: Sarah & Indi had a cracker of a game against South in the Under 15A’s finishing the game with a score line 35-17. From defence to attack Charlotte, Brydie, Amelia & Matilda never gave up as they battled for each ball. Unfortunately the Under 15B’s were out of luck and couldn’t quite grasp the win losing 37-43. The Under 13A side had players in Rachel, Ylana, Renee & Marlee taking some well-timed intercepts to get their team home with a 20-8 win. A massive win for the Under 13B team last week, 32-3! Makayla, Rachel & Adele all played really well & did a great job of backing each teammate up.
Under 11 players Ruby & Bailey showed the club how it was done with some great footwork, leads and passes. Along with their other teammates they were able to get another win on the board 19-1. North Gambier
Under 11’s North 1 vs Millicent 46 Girls tried hard; we only had the 8. Thankyou Amalie for sitting bench and having a run for a quarter. Stella, Piper and Payton had a run in C, goals and defense which was good learning for them. Addie and Sophie played a great game tried hard all day with some great defense and some great touches. (They were our best players today) Both Islas tried hard, and Emily played both goals and defense. Millicent too strong and their all over play and a little more experience shone through score was 1 to 45 something. We need to still work on our passing and cutting in front for the ball. Best players: Addison Kamphius and Sophie Halloran (sponsored by Halloran Diesel)
Under 13A’s North 14 vs Millicent 41 Millicent is always a tough opponent. We adjusted our combinations to try and be competitive. We played Raine (GK) and Georgia (GD) with Ava Hollaran helping out (WD) in defence and Mia (C) Lacey (WA), Mischa (GA) and Grace (GS) in attack. During the first quarter we held on strongly, but it was hard to keep up with the intensity and pace that Millicent dictated for the rest of the game. Our girls kept fighting and had brilliant moments of excellent netball, but Millicent was too strong in the end. Best players: Grace Collins and Mackenzie Harrold Under 13B’s North 8 vs Millicent 37 Our girls demonstrated admirable resilience on Saturday. They had to face a tough opponent, Millicent as well as challenging, cold and rainy conditions. They adjusted well and fought hard, but Millicent was too strong. Carey and Grace were in goalies and tried their best. Our attacking side struggled at times to feed the ball to them, and many passes were intercepted. Our defence kept on fighting hard to get turn overs and interceptions. It was a strong team effort, but Millicent was just too strong. Best players: Mia Griffith (sponsored by Howard and Sue Griffith) and Mischa Human Under 15 A’s North 38 vs Millicent 41 We knew this week would be a challenge and show us where we need to be. A slow start, saw North chasing Millicent yet again. Millicent were shutting down our leads and we had to adjust to physical defense. Behind by 10, we needed to make some changes to open up our attack end. Cara Nulty and Maggie Collins were crucial in our attack end, finding space and ball. Ruby Mitchell and Ava Collins worked well as our new defense combination and created crucial turnovers to get us within 3. Elodie Adam was dynamite in goals, assisted by Macey Griffith. A whole team approach is needed for the next time we match up against a very quality side like Millicent. Best players: Ruby Mitchell and Maggie Collins (Innovation Leisure) Under 15 B’s North 22 vs Millicent 26 Not a great game to watch. It was quite scrappy in which the weather did not help. Millicent started strong which meant, catch up netball. It was goal for goal for a bit but Millicent managed to hang on. We had flashes of some great netball but that needs to turn into 4 quarters. Lots of things
Yellow & Black to work on and with the bye coming up time to look at those things. Best players: Milly Allen (Niche Homes) and Summer Mackereth Under 17’s North 25 vs Millicent 64 The girls had some nice passages of play, however dropped their heads early into the game. Belief and working collaboratively as a team is crucial for moving forward and improving the connection on court. Gianna, Haylee and Zarly worked tirelessly all game and should be proud of their efforts today. Best players: Zarly Jones and Gianna Morello C grade North 26 vs Millicent 45 Despite the tough weather, the North girls put up a strong fight against Millicent this week. From the attack end to the defence, the movement of the ball down the court was smooth. Our movement in and around the goal circle was effective and our defensive pressure meant lots of touches and intercepts. While the score line was not in our favour, the girls didn’t let Millicent get away with an easy win. Best players: Shay Merrett and Georgia Wehrmann B grade North 36 vs Millicent 54 We knew coming into this game it was going to be a tough one and with the terrible weather conditions it certainly didn’t help us. It was fairly ever through the first quarter, but Millicent slowly got away from us quarter by quarter. The girls stayed positive, and we had some great passages of play. Enjoy the week off girls and we will come out fighting against Casterton. Best players: Brianna Fuller and Nat Fox A Reserve North 47 vs Millicent 66 We had another new combination of players this week and a number of girls playing multiple games due to last minute illness. It was always going to be a tough game against a strong Millicent side with a dominant GS. Our defensive end applied pressure all game with great intensity. Hard running and experience through the midcourt from Amanda helped us transition down to our attacking end with beautiful feeding from Brianna into the goal circle to Riley who held strong all game. Best players: Riley Mitchell and Amanda O’Shaughnessy A Grade North 40 vs Millicent 74 With some big outs this week, it was a game that we shifted our focus to adjusting our game to umpires calls and our opponents and playing as a team. We were not focusing too much on the score, as we had all new combinations in attack, mid court and defence. During the whole game our juniors were challenged by a very experienced, tight marking defensive team in Millicent. They worked hard and were able to put displayed sone great passages of play. Defensively we were up against h e i g h t , ex p e r i e n c e , a n d fa s t b a l l movement from Millicent. We were able to turn some ball over and with the hard running Bree in centre, there were times were we took it right up to them. Time to reset and rest this weekend before we embark on the rest of the season. Best players: Zahra Crough-Heaton and Brianna Walters
MILLICENT
Millicent Red, Black & White Millicent 46 def North 1 Best - Brydie Madden & Maggie Buhlmann From the first whistle the girls worked brilliantly as a team showing precision with their passing and moving the ball smoothly down the court! A very solid defensive effort kept North scoreless for a large portion of the game. Great movement through the attack and feeding into the goalies was rewarded by some very accurate shooting by the girls! A fantastic team effort to secure a great win! 13Bs Millicent 37 def North 8 Best - Amarlie Thomson & Lindy Van Eeden The girls played excellently in wet conditions, however copped some rain near the end of the game. Our focuses for the game were court awareness and rebounds, and also communication. And the girls achieved exactly that! Ella and Courtney found space and created some excellent drives and passing opportunities consistently throughout the game, while Lainie in defence was a powerhouse! Lindy and Imogen worked hard to get ball, and had their hand over everything! And our shooters Indi and Amarlie pulled in some excellent rebounds! Lola also debuted for us, so Thankyou to her and Scarlett for sitting bench, and we will be taking all we have learnt into the next game. 13As Millicent 41 def North 14 Best - Kalani Dunn & Jeda Hibbberd Another fantastic win against North and fortunately we missed the rain! We had to patiently work it around to find our goalies due to the tight defensive pressure from North, however we were able to limit their scoring opportunities to set us up with a good lead at quarter time. All players adjusted well to small positional changes and we continued to build on our lead. Our 3rd quarter was the stand out quarter with Jeda and Asha working well together in defence limiting North to 2 goals and with Tahnee and Bell feeding accurately to Kalani and Ashlee in goals who finished it off to make it our highest scoring quarter. Lots of intercepts were picked up in the mid court due to Bell’s work rate and Lucy, Scarlett and Emily’s defence applying lots of pressure to cause turnovers. 15Bs Millicent 26 def North 22 Best - Poppy Thorne & Sarah Sigston A very tough encounter today which saw us go goal for goal the entire game. Each player listened to feedback at the breaks and adjusted their game accordingly, which saw us get many hands to balls and were able to finish off nicely. Last 5 minutes of the game saw us really step up, to take the points from an unbeaten North by 4 goals. We still have things to improve on, but we are getting there! Well done girls! 15As Millicent 41 def North 38 Best - Piper Paul & Edie Easterby We entered the game with a full team and played our best quarter for the season. Edie & Mackinlee gained important touches and Mia, Poppy & Piper worked
V
hard through the midcourt to provide plenty of opportunities for Molly and Mylee who finished accurately. We continued to hold onto our lead and Jaimie and Mattie impacted the game in defence in second half. Well done girls on great team effort to get the win.
17s Mill 64 def North 25 Best - Maya Tarrant & Lauren Van Eeden Great start by the girls scoring over 20 goals in the first quarter. the ability to score off all turnovers was excellent. girls adapted very well to all changes made, with the focus going into the later half of the season being the consistency of a full four quarter effort. exciting bunch to come out and watch the talent of these young girls!
A GRADE - East 34 lost to West 44 In crappy conditions I thought we did well for 3 quarters. We had a solid training this week, but with changes again to our attack, it left us working harder to find space. Our girls worked really hard, but things fell apart in the last quarter which gave them the game. We need to find a way to get our voice happening again and work on capitalising on each turover. Enjoy the week rest and hopefully we can put up a good solid 4 quarter against Millicent. Best Players – Amryn Bosko & Bo Creek A w a r d s – A m r y n B o s ko ( G y m Challenge Meals) Morgan Amy (Fasta Pasta)
C Grade Mill 45 def North 26 Best - Keelie Lindner & Sapphire Sims What a game we had! All the girls pushed through in the wet and cold conditions and were all switched on and had a great win. This is exactly what we needed after a few slower weeks, hopefully we can go into the game that strong. Sapphire Sims and Keelie Lindner both had absolute ripper games, and ever yone had defensive pressure the whole way down the court. Great game girls. Special thanks to Jacqui Matthews who put her hand up last minute to umpire before her own game, we all appreciate it so much.
A RES – East 48 defeated West 30 A tough day to play some quality netball, but we adjusted quickly and were able to capitalise on some scrappy balls and keep pulling away. With such a versatile team, knowing our role in each position is going to help us finish the year nice and strong. G o o d w i n g i r l s , l et ' s ta ke t h i s momentum into a tough Millicent game next. Best Players – Brooke Hicks & Casey Horrigan Awards – Casey Horrigan (Creek Livestock) Teagan Gray (San Piero)
B Grade Mill 54 def North 36 Best - Mia Varcoe & Krystal Coghlan A tight start to the game against a strong North contingent, who were keen to get the points. Our defensive pressure all over the court was definitely a highlight, with many turnovers created, finished off nicely by Mia and Jemma. Layla and T worked relentlessly in attack to assist the goalies, with awesome circle movement. Shanksy, Krystal and Kodes applied constant pressure, which caused North attack many headaches. Nic made a last quarter appearance when the rain went away and took some strong rebounds. A solid 19 goal win and happy coach to see our hard work come into fruition.
B GRADE – East 39 defeated West 30 What a day for netball! A well deserved win, despite the conditions and pressures on the court, you never gave up! Very happy with the constant improvement and connection. Let's really knuckle down at the next few trainings and go for win #3!! Best Players – Amy Feast & Tayla Waters Awards – Nicola Smith (The Nourish Nook) Jenna Hutchesson (Zambrero’s)
A Res Mill 66 def North 57 Best - Annelise Janssen & Alana Craig It was great to have all girls back for the North game. A little tricky in the wet conditions with some unforced errors creeping into our game. Let’s remember to treasure possession and make the most of turnovers. After a nice break I’m sure we will come out firing this weekend. A Grade Mill 74 def North 40 Best - Demi Verbena & Hannah Nitschke I’m another wet and cold day we were able to play consistent netball over four quarters to set up a big win against an undermanned North. Thanks to Kayleigh and Daisy for playing for us. It’s great to have Lisa back and we look forward to celebrating her 350th game next round!
C GRADE – East 46 defeated West 32 With a scrappy start to the game the ball was lost at crucial times. The rain caused many ineffective passes with We s t ’s b o d y p r e s s u r e c a u s i n g unwanted errors. Changes at half time for the better made for a smooth transition out of defence into attack. Few things to work on before our clash with Millicent. Best Players – Tamara Janeway & Jacinta Clark Awards – Tamara Janeway (Jens Hotel) Jordy Davis (Club Tea) 17’s – East 25 lost to West 46 The girls had a challenging start to the game playing catch up for the remainder of the match. Unfortunately West were too good but the girls kept fighting. They adapted well not having their coach there and the different changes made on the day. Best Players – Indi Dwyer & Tonique Burford Awards – Indi Dwyer (Kaboom) Chloe Line (Boost) 15A’s – East 28 lost to West 46
East Gambier Red & Black The girls played a steady first half against a strong west side. We played calm and steady netball with fantastic transition of the ball down the court but, did let this slip away in the remaining half of the game. Our defensive end stayed strong putting pressure on to turn over the ball and the feeding of the ball into the attacking circle created good opportunities to score but unfortunately it was not enough and led to an 18 point loss. We are in no way disheartened by the score and only ask for improvement week to week which is what was shown. Best Players – Sharni Clark & Ellie Chittleborough Awards – Lily McIntosh (25 Acres) Lillie Leitch (Scroll Queen) 15B’s – East 31 lost to West 32 What a contest! A one-point loss in the end, something the girls should be extremely proud of. Last time we played west we went down by 4 so to see the improvement coming into this round is fantastic. The girls very much played a team game from start to finish, there was no denying the competition between ourselves and West on the court. It was a great game to watch, with intensity and determination to win. We’ll keep pushing towards building connections between the girls and see what we can produce throughout the second half of this season. Best Players –Abby Lines & Millie Button Awards – Charlotte Crute (OK Pie Shop) Ellie Chittleborough (Wendy’s) 13A’s – East 12 lost to West 46 Tough game today girls, lots to work on at training this week. We need to focus on passing and playing in front. Good luck to the girls playing interleague on the weekend. Best Players –Tahni Kemp & Indee Stratford Awards – Indee Stratford (Natural Born Grillers) Tahni Kemp (Bakers Delight) 13B’s – East 10 lost to West 18 Slow start today, but you all eventually switched on and fought hard for the ball. Great last game Ava we are going to miss you. Good work girls. Best Players –Ava Hosking & Sailor McCracken Awards – Ava Hosking (McDonalds) Vespa Scott (Copenhagen) 11’s – East 9 lost to West 22 Although the girls didn’t get the win, they all showed persistence and did not give up. West Gambier Blue & Red Hopefully everyone enjoyed the week off, whether you were lucky enough to be in Bali or the Whitsundays or somewhere in between! Congratulations to all the west girls who represented the Western Border in the country champs last week. Winter has hit hard and fast, and the girls played in terrible conditions at East in round 9. Results for the day wereU/11 -The little roos came away with a ripper of a win. Our last encounter saw us go down by 1 goal so a massive improvement. Molly and Phoebe gave us a terrific start to the game. The movement down the court by Miah, Ruby, Mackenna and Chaneil was excellent. Aggie and Kenzie picked up plenty of loose balls, both played solid in defence. Harper created plenty of play for the girls, getting her hands to everything. The improvement in the girls is great too see. West 16 – East 8 Best players Miah Jackway and Makenna Povey 13B - An outstanding game all round, everyone put 100% in. The weather didn’t dampen our spirits and we got the job done. A big change for a few of the girls with different positions, but they stood up to the task. Drive and determination got the job done, and we walked away with a nice convincing win. Well done Westies!! West 18 – East 10 Best players Claire Hunter and Isla Lynch Game day awards: Eva Povey and Matilda Neale 13A - With a few players out due to other commitments we were delighted to have Sara, Isla, Matilda and Claire from our 13b’s join us. A special mention to Sara and Isla for getting past their nerves, slotting into the team and playing really strong netball. Alice and Libby stepped up to the challenge and played outside their comfort zone, while Swaye led strongly through the centre all game and Kara and Analeigh worked hard in defence. Everyone’s effort resulted in us coming away with a strong win. West 46 – East 12 Best Players Alice Allen and Isla Lynch Game day awards Sara Richards and Isla Lynch 15B - Saturday saw the girls very much feel the effects of the first game for the winter but luckily dodged the rain. It was a back and forward game with our most productive quarter coming in the third to help the girls bring home the win. Our defence was consistently strong all game with the wintertime conditions making ball skills a little tricky. The girls all kept their heads high and continued to push forward and take on advice from both coaches and their fellow team mates. Well done girls, let keep building and see what we can do next game. West 32 – East 31 Best players Annabel Judd and Macy Pearson 15A - Right from the start the girls were determined this was their week for a win with the goalies shooting 100% accurate in the first half. The defence worked really well with great rebounds and intercepts and then taking the ball down through mid court to finish off with a goal each time. A great win today girls. throughout the whole game. The pressure the defence put on the East attack was consistent in each quarter. Our Energiser kid, Kirra McKenny played a brilliant game at GK backed up by Maddie Milich and Hannah Seidel. Amity Sheedy in WD fought to keep their WA out of their game. What she lacks in height she makes up with sheer determination. After a short stint on the injury list we welcomed back Charlotte Scott to the Centre spot and she controlled the game from there, teaming up with Halle Boult at WA to feed our goalies. Aleisha Pearson was an absolute gun today rarely missing, combining with Stevi Clayton in the first half and then Jordy Hereper in the second. I am so lucky with the 9 girls in my team I have plenty of options to play with and all of them work so well together. Keep up the great work girls and enjoy the week off. West 46 – East 25 Best players Halle Boult and Hannah Seidel Game day awards Amity Sheedy and Kirra McKenny C Grade - An incredible improvement from our last game against East, once again the girls continued to push and fight their way throughout the 4 quarters keeping the score close the whole time. Unfortunately the final score didn’t do us justice on just how well each of the girls played. Some fantastic work by our defenders once again working well in the circle together putting the pressure on the attackers. An awesome effort to our mid court to push and in every opportunity give those second efforts and fabulous shooting by our goalies. Looking forward to developing over the next couple weeks till we face off against the demons. West 32 - East 46 Best players Olivia James and Karli Earle

B Grade - Every week sees much improvement from the B grade girls, and this week they started off strong against East. The defensive girls worked tirelessly while the goal conversions were coming at the other end. Unfortunately there were a few opportunities missed throughout the court and east were able to capitalize. If we continue to improve and put everything into practice we’ll get some points on the board. West 30 – East 39 Best players Kristy Dolan and Maddie Milich Game day awards Abby Egan and Maddie Milich A Reserve - A game that we would rather forget, but one that we can also take a lot from. We started the match well but let too many factors wear us down. Under relentless pressure we reverted back to bad habits and made too many unforced errors which limited our scoring opportunities. A timely week off to regroup before our next game against South. West 30 – East 48 Best players Chelsea Tremelling and Ellie Xanthopoulos A Grade - Firstly the biggest THANKYOU to Claire, Rach, Anna and Jaz for playing and benching for us - it is so nice to have the backup of our A Res and to know you girls will get the job done when called on. It was another atrocious day for netball but we persisted and eventually pulled away to get a win. It wasn’t pretty netball but stoked to get a win. Claire was a solid option all game and Amy showed leadership in the defensive third bringing everyone together to get some important touches and rebounds. Tara was in everything and had a solid game. Enjoy the weekend off ready to reset against South. West 44 – East 34 Best players Amy Cram and Tara Bryant This week we welcome South to Malseed park. Good luck to all of our teams. Keep your eye on the red and the blue! GO WEST!!
