WEST GAMBIER V SOUTH GAMBIER MILLICENT v CASTERTON SANDFORD EAST GAMBIER v NORTH GAMBIER
GAME PREVIEW East Gambier v North Gambier The bitter East and North Gambier rivalry reignites at the “Kennel” this Saturday in the headline clash of the seventh Western Border football round. The Bulldogs carry the bragging rights after winning the opening bout in round 2, but a lot has changed in the five weeks since. East has lost all its momentum since opening its campaign with a hat-trick of wins by losing to South Gambier, Millicent and West Gambier on the bounce. The poor run of form has seen the Bulldogs slip from first on the ladder to being in grave danger of dropping out of the top four. Injuries have not been kind to the side with big names such as Matt Willson and Jesse Fry limited to the sidelines. But with the Saints and Roos breathing down East’s neck, it needs to get back on the horse and a win over the archrival will be the sweetest way. The likes of Shem Balshaw, Nick Walters and Todd Lockwood rose to the occasion in the previous encounter and the Bulldogs hope they can perform again against a confident Tigers’ side. North has enjoyed the opposite form line by collecting three straight wins to roar back into premiership contention. Each week the Tigers have taken a larger stride as their young guns get accustomed to their experienced team mates and everything clicked into place last weekend. A road trip to Victoria did not prove to be a hassle for Justin McConnell’s men after every aspect of the game plan fired to produce a 107-point win. McConnell himself was instrumental with eight goals and he will form a deadly combination inside 50 with Sam Stafford. As each game goes by, North’s next generation feels more settled and Austin Kitschke, Joel Griffith, Henry Gould and Toby de Wit enjoyed fine afternoons at Island Park. The last month of football suggests the Tigers should be favourites, but they will not be made welcome at McDonald Park by the hungry home side.

The return of Ben Papps from injury made a notable difference, while Lawrey Bradley-Brown and Jordan Williams delivered the ball perfectly inside 50. Matt Waldron scored five goals last week, but will not feature in the forward line this weekend and neither will round 2 best-on-ground Kyle Giddings. South should get the job done once again, but the Roos could keep things interesting with a few tricks up their sleeve. West Gambier v South Gambier Having shown promising signs and now finally getting some wins on the board, West Gambier faces its biggest test hosting ladder-leader South Gambier.

West Gambier Blue & Red It was great to be home and playing on our home deck, after a couple of weeks away. In what was a slippery start to the day the 14s kicked the moisture of the grass and was good enough to hold off a fast finishing east side to get the win. In a entertaining game off football the West Boys started off strong in the first half getting a valuable lead in the end to hold of east in the end. Bailey Noble continues to play great football with some great marking around the ground to get the best player for the day. Seth continues doing what he has done all year provide lots of run and attack on the ball. Toby Stutley, Robbie Case and Harvey Croker rounded out the top 5 best players. The boys are improving each week and take on a strong South sides on Wednesday night and Saturday. In another close game the 16s fought to the wire to get the win by 4 points. In some really good football displayed by both sides the game came right down to the wire. Nate Davey is building his year nicely to be named Best on ground, followed by the class in Jo Judd who is pushing his claims to show all how good he is. Charlie Carson continues to be front and centre of every contest and is having a great year. Brendon Howard, Koan Vanderheyden and Charlie Stephenson rounded out the best players with great games. In the 18s we had 6 under 16s double up and play 18s for us. Great to see some kids pushing themselves to step up and play great games. Brooklyn, Koan, Charlie, Jo, Thomas, and Brad all played great games and gave it everything. In A game where we started of slow we played catch up all game and ran out of legs in the end. Aaron Ramsey is a freak and clearly best player for us and even best player on the ground would be an easy argument, and we will be watching him play the late game at some point in the coming.
V
Ethan Gladman was class and kept playing the ball throughout the ga m e . L a n d o n L efeve r ke e ps working hard and presenting at CHF for us. Sjaakie Duivenvoorde and Shar Nay Than rounded out the best players. The Ressies have hit the park in some good form but had a reality check about the work required to keep winning games. We started of ok but faded badly in the second and third quarter to chase down in the last. Coming up against top spot this week we will need to lift our game again and get back to playing our football. Big Oldsy was a shining light who played a great game and was working hard around the ground. Other best players where Cooper Sanderson, Riley Wilson, Sam Von Duve and James Kealey. It was a great way to finish the day with some reward for effort for our seniors. It was not the prettiest to watch but shows the importance of consistent efforts and a win as a result. We have been in similar positions all year just to fade away but this time we kept working on our football and got it right. Our skipper in Lawry Bradley Brown was best on ground by a long way, followed by Jordan Williams, Big Sticks Waldron who got some reward for his efforts with 5 majors. Jessie down back starting to come into some form with his rebounding. Reece Cowling only knows one way and Alex Jarnevic has found his feet and fitted in well playing some great football.
South Gambier Red & White
A taste of winter on Saturday but at least we escaped getting wet. We hosted the Millicent Football Netball Club and what a ripping game the seniors turned out to be - full credit to Clint Gallio and his young team for playing an open, expansive style of football and t h ey n eve r sto p p e d t r y i n g . Millicent opened with a brace of goals before South had drawn breath with the home team saved by 2 magical Colby Munro majors. It was goal for goal and a very tight tussle through to half time with only a point the difference.
The reserves went on their merry way with another big win. Charlie Fisher is playing some top football, marking and kicking the ball very well to finish with 6 goals. The big Sturge was impassable in the backline, Luke Foran ran the show, the running and drinking machine Herb Elliott ran all day, Josh Smith and Duncan Reid also had great games. The thirds started like St Kilda with 1.6 in the first quarter before getting their goal radar working and running out 10 goal winners against a talented Millicent outfit which were under-manned by having a few blokes playing seniors. Big Lukey Winterfield was BOG with Ethan Sims, Fergus Calderwood, Maxy Lockwood, Blake Neshoda and Sam McTaggart also named. Goals were shared around with Alex Ridding finding 3.
South broke away in the third term with Brayden Kain leading from the front as he has all year finishing with 6 goals, Munro with another 2 to make 4 in total was very damaging. Alex Harkness is fit and firing and had his best game for the season to earn the best player going with star U18 Oscar Adams dominating back from town, sleeps with the light on Brett O’Neil, Mason Hein and Best of luck to all players and Ethan Chuck also high up. teams this week.
Don't forget we have our W.E.S.T night tonight at the club. So get dressed up, come out listen to some live music and enjoy the night. We also have the Minuzzo rule in place from now on (No Drinks on the dance floor) so its safe for all to hit the dance floor 12. Fridge South Gambier all smiles undefeated a er 6 rounds

MILLICENT
Millicent Red, Black & White One thing I don't like about ge ng older is the fashion keeps moving forward. Every genera on wants to have their own fashion, and now the skinny pants are the "in thing". Not back in my day, because back in my day real men wore cargo pants. People of my genera on like Bronte, has embraced the change. We were at a pub once and his skinny jeans were that ght you could read his text messages through his pocket. Every me his phone rang his leg would vibrate. I had skinny jeans on once with a big shirt, I just looked like an umbrella. Firemen, police officers even the military all wear cargo pants. That was me back in the day, I had so many pockets I didn't know what to do with them all. One me I moved from one house to the other just with my pockets. I didn't need Duells removalist or a budget truck. I Just threw my futon, big screen tv and po ed plants in my pockets and away I went. Could you imagine Clint or Tinks rocking up in skinny jeans to fix a blocked toilet? No trade mark plumbers crack in site, they would look to prudish to touch a toilet. But in the manly cargo pants they would get in there and plunge away. They'd have that toilet fixed in no me. Wearing cargo pants you could dance even if you didn't know how to, the pants covered up all that bad footwork. People be like "your good". No, they just couldn't see what was going on under there. It's horrible, I dance like I've had a stroke. With skinny jeans you go a know what you are doing on the dance floor, there's no hiding that shocking foot work. Plus, when you put them on, as a man you go a make decisions all the way up. Like what's going down the le side… what's going down the right side? (If you know what I mean?) When you look in the mirror you immediately feel feminine, you can't help it. Wearing the cargo pants at shadows or any club back in the day. You'd be dancing looking good in your cargos, you look like heaps of fun, girls would come up and dance then ask if you could hold their lip gloss. You're like "give me that I got a pocket for that right there baby, keys.. got a pocket for that too". Nex t minute you've got moisturiser, asthma puffer and Panadol. You've now got a pharmacy in your pants. Girl looks thirsty. "Here have a water you can keep that one, I got a whole 24 pack in these pants". You are now just an extension of her purse. It's think it's just a conspiracy theory to take men's power away, because now we are wearing skinny leg jeans, we aren't valuable anymore, you go to a club ladies are like hold my lip-gloss. You look down, you got no room for that. Some men at our footy club start their own fashion, like wearing a rashie to night clubs, but that's another story. A Grade come up against an undefeated South ou it. They got off to a great start into the wind. Before things ghtened up. Taking a 1-point lead into half me. 3rd quarter saw South get on top with the aid of the breeze and a 10 minute lapse by the Saints. They come home hard in the last kicking 5 straight but fell 17 points short by final siren. Jacob again playing another fantas c game, Clint really finding form and makes players stand stronger playing alongside him. Sam Willis next best, Gene kicked 7 and looked dangerous all day. Finn controlled the ruck and next best Billy Shanks. In a game where everyone contributed all day. Special highlight was seeing Kalan Shanks kick his first senior goal so well done to him. Reserves had a tough day against the form side in the comp. Going down 105 to 14, be er players for the day were Ferg, Cal McGrath, Hugh, Jordan, Harry and Joey. Tinks plays his 50th A grade game this week,

quite possibly one of the most casual persons you will meet. But on the field, he is a fierce compe tor. Played his junior footy at Millicent and is a delight to watch. Dyl is quick and has great skills and someone the kids look up to. A valuable member of the 2018 grand final side. Tinks is a wellrespected footballer and club person Meatball Reilly plays his 100th club game, 95A grade and 5 reserves. Mitch is a leader at the club, has a great set of hands, and a beau ful kicking ac on. Also a member of the 2018 A grade premiership side. Mitch always helps around the club. The Millicent Football Netball Club appreciates the effort of both Tinks and Mitch and congratula ons on your milestones... Gizzy plays his 250th club game. 195 A grade and 55 reserves. Gizzy is Supported by wife Michelle and their 3 children Mia, Asha and Jacob. Gizzy has been a loyal player at the Saints and got his just reward for staying loyal by being a part of the 2018 grand final side. Kicking one of his few goals in that grand final. Gizzy is a no fuss footballer, he is tough, trusted and well underrated as a footballer. He has a fierce determina on. If there was a golden fist award, he would have won it on many occasions. Gizzy is decep vely quick and wears his opponent closely. Rarely gets beaten in a one-on-one contest. He is highly respected for the fearless way he a acks the ball and can play tall and or on smalls. Gizzy is also on the footy commi ee, helps train the u/10's and runs the bar at the club. He is highly respected around the club. Gizzy has been a reliable and consistent servant for the Millicent Football Netball Club and we wish him all the best in his 250th club game. Making my mark The Appren ce!! Our 18's went down to a well drilled South but had a fair crack. 90 – 22, with Josh leading the way again, never stops! Nick Joy played his best game for the year and Hainsey, Aussie, Bill Shanks and Langy rounded out the be er players on the day. The Under 16's tested the South lads physically all day, got close, and with a full strength line-up would've been be er. Scores, 71 – 47 and Eli con nued his solid form and was backed up by Toddy (2goals), Wezza, Harry Gibbs who has been great all year down back, Deany and Dan Hateley who were both good. Dunny also with 2 goals.

400 CLUB GAMES FOR TINKA 195 SENIORS - 205 RESERVES
Today club legend Jeremy (Tinka) Hales will join the exclusive 400 game club for the Millicent Saints. He started his journey in 1991 in the under 14s as a 12 year old disguised in a 7 year old body. After graduating from the juniors to the senior ranks he soon started making a reputation for himself as a courageous, hard at it, skilful ball winner and despite his size put his body on the line, went toe to toe and came out on top with much bigger and stronger opponents. Despite dominating in the reserves, he was still deemed by some to be too small and too light to make the next step to senior footy. When he was given the opportunity, he proved his doubters wrong as he more than made up for his size in courage, footy smarts, skill, decision making, ability to win the hard ball and his ability to bring teammates into the game. It was these attributes that very quickly won the admiration and respect of his teammates and supporters. Tinka is the ultimate team man who is passionate about his club, puts his body on the line every week and will go down as one of the most courageous players to pull on a Saints Guernsey. He has been fortunate enough to play alongside big name teammates in Digga, Billy, Mason Redman and Tommy Hutch. Tinka not only has got the admiration and respect of his teammates and club but also opposition players and supporters. Tinka rates his hardest opponents being Jason Dunn (East), Marcus England (Portland) and Brent Howard (South). Everyone in football knows and respects the skinny little antagonising number 51 for the Saints. • 1996 Most Determined player award. • 1997 A grade debut under Damien Prouse. Won the Reserves coaches trophy. • 1999 won Club Reserves Most Consistent trophy. • 2001 captain of the Reserves side and won the Club Reserves best & fairest award. • 2002 captain of the Reserves Premiership side. Runner-up in the Club Reserves B&F award. • 2003 captain of the Reserves side. WBFL Reserves B&F award winner and Club Reserves B&F. • 2006 joint winner of the Club A Grade B&F award (tying for the award with Andrew Nitschke). • 2008 Jeremy was runner-up in the Club A Grade B&F award (to Cameron Haggett).
• 2015 joint runner-up in the Reserves Club B&F award • 2019 League runner up at 41 years of age 2009 and 2010 Jeremy took on the role of coaching the Millicent under 14 team in the WBJFL competition. He was able to pass on his vast experience to a number of the youngsters who are now coming through and joining the ranks of the senior side. In 2010 Jeremy was a member of the Millicent A Grade side that came agonisingly close to winning the WBFL A Grade Premiership going down by 3 points to West Gambier. In 2014, 2015 & 2016 Jeremy coached the Reserves side. Today Jeremy becomes the second Millicent footballer to play 400 games for the Club, joining Renato Verbena who played 427 senior games for the Club. Tinka is one of the clubs’ favourite sons who has been a loyal servant of the Millicent Football Club for the last 32 years. His infectious sense of humour and love for a good time have made him an integral part of the Club. He will be cheered on today by Ange and all of his family who along with the entire club are extremely proud of you mate and wish you all the best on this amazing achievement. Make sure we get the right results today and help Tinka celebrate tonight at the club with a Bacardi or 2…. Go Saints!

The A grade showed at times that it was going to have a good win against West. But the 4 goal lead at the end of the first quarter was just to much for our boys to overcome. For the time of year it is, Casterton Sandford Football Netball Club put on a great day weather wise (apart from a few early showers) and showed off their ever improving facilities, including a good deck. Credit to the Football/Netball club for all they have and are trying to achieve.
The seniors got off to a flyer, particularly Joel Griffith who roved 3 goals in the first quarter. Unfortunately, while he thinking of a big bag at the break, that did not eventuate but he continued to contribute none the less.
Yellow & Black The under 12s enjoyed the big ‘back’ oval and it looked like fun was had by all. UNDER 12B - Adrian Flowers and Danny Vinko This week the U12B's travelled to Casterton to tackle the Cats. The team that we faced on Saturday were a very different side from the one that we faced in the first round. They really took it up to us. But to the boys credit, they put into action what we had been practicing on Wednesday nights. which is being front and centre to the contest and being a leading option to their team mates up the field. It is pleasing to see that they are taking these training drills into the games on Saturday. With these in place we came away with a win. It is a credit to our boys. This Wednesday night instead of training we are having a social get together a one of our sponsors Fasta Pasta. Hope to see you all there to support a business that has been so generous to our club.
In a big win, it could be seen as unusual for the full back, Jordan Hollitt, to get best, but there could be no arguments from anyone that watched the game. Other best players were Brad Stafford, Nick McInerney, Nick Blachut, Austin Kitschke and Jake Schutz. Other good performers were Justin (8 goals with good delivery and judgement and without leaving the ground for a mark), Tom McLennan (3 goals) and Luke Powell in the ruck. UNDER 12D - Stacey Mullens, Michael Durbidge and Anthony After a disappointing performance Davison last week, the reserves did a lot of soul searching and it was a much This week we combined with the 12 improved performance this week. E’s and travelled over the border to Casterton Sandford are obviously take on Casterton, the two grades working very hard to put a side onto combined very well and played the field and we can only thank some very competitive football. It them for their efforts. Coach was great to see a lot of the things Kurzman has played a bit of footy at we’ve been practicing and working Island Park and it showed with his on at training once again on display, bag of 12, which wasn’t quite really showing the kids are taking it enough for him to make the best on board and all improving week to players? Those that did included week. This weeks best player Karl Spedding, Ciaran Buckley, awards went to Cooper Stephen, Campbell Baker, Elijah Firth, Tim Harry Lucas, Ted Lucas and Harrison Young and Dean Hamilton. Cram who along with their team mates played fantastic games. Also The u16s got themselves back on special mention to the kids that put the winners board with a disciplined their hand up to play a quarter for team effort and no whinging about Casterton to even the numbers up, some new positions. Best players well done guys! were Mackye Baron, Trae Hamilton, Re e c e M c L a u g h l i n ( w h o wa s Another away game this week at the supposed to ease back from injury), kennel. Dare I say it, but in the Darcy Arthurson, Deacon Ilsley and senior games will be 4 point games Zayne Young. By the time you read with both teams jostling for this the boys will have played a positions in the 4. Just make sure Wednesday night game vs South, when you buy food or drink that hopefully for another win. Azza gets you in his count. The best and closest game for the day was in the u14s, where we were down at ½ time and only 2 points in it at ¾ time. 5 goal 13 points may suggest some goal kicking practice this week, in between school footy and a Wednesday night South game. Best players this week were Chad McLaughlin, Kade Allen, Cooper Turner, Zac Cordell, Aaron Dally and Connor Lunnay.
Rosters are out and Club memberships are now due. After a very quiet night last week, after enjoying some East hospitality, get back to the club tonight for teas and awards. Thanks to our major sponsors, Stuckey Electrical Contractors and KFC. Go Tigers.

WITH After battling through five unsuccessful grand finals and more than 300 games, David Nulty may had thought he would never lift the Western Border A Grade premiership cup. But Nulty’s loyalty to North Gambier paid off in a fairytale finish to his career with two A Grade flags and he now has “no regrets” on his career as he enjoys watching his kids represent the club.
Representing South Australia in the national competition, Nulty received the pleasure of running out on the hallowed turf of the Sydney Cricket Ground. He also recalled playing against a young Anthony Rocca before he became a Collingwood hero and fought for the Croweaters alongside Keith, Western Bulldogs and Hawthorn player Simon Cox.
Despite his father being a past South Gambier player, his junior career started at Vansittart Park after helping his school mates field a team. Nulty’s priority had been basketball, but as a passionate Essendon fan, he was hooked after his first taste and it did not take long for him to rise through the ranks. At just 15 years of age, having already played Under 18’s, he was presented with his maiden A Grade jumper. Despite being thrown into the ruck at such a young age, Nulty said he was not too intimidated and loved the opportunity. “I thought I was ready and enjoyed the challenge,” he said. “I started in the forward line and swapped into the ruck a bit, so just went with it. “Just the physical stuff playing against men hit me because there was definitely a weight and strength disadvantage.”
Nulty also went on the break into the SANFL Under 19’s system for Glenelg, but said he always preferred life on the Limestone Coast. “Glenelg was probably more about the opportunity because I never really had the desire to play AFL,” he said. “After a few Under 19 games at Glenelg, I started an apprenticeship and it got a bit hard to travel, so I stayed home.” Having made the decision to stay at Mount Gambier, nothing was holding Nulty back as he soon became one of the premier ruckman in the WBFL. He consistently gave his midfielders first use of the Sherrin and developed a close relationship with those same school mates Scott Flett, Nathan Chapman, Craig Turner, Michael Silvy, Brad and Luke Norman. Despite all of his hard work, September was never kind to Nulty as he and the Tigers endured five straight grand final defeats. He said the pain of losing time after time did eat away. “It was terrible,” he said. “It drove us to keep going, but you did start to doubt whether we could ever win it. “In the end we just knuckled down and did the best we could.” After seasons of toil, something special was created in 2012 under the guidance of playing coach Justin McConnell. The Tigers claimed the minor premiership and were well placed to launch an attack for the ultimate prize, but Nulty said it almost fell apart once again. “We knew we were going to be around the mark again and possibly had something special,” Nulty said. “But then Justin got his jaw broken down at Hamilton and it was quite nasty, so we were not sure if he was going to be back for finals. “But he did come back for the first final against South which we lost, but his return kicked us back on track.”
After the baptism of fire, Nulty said he did not adjust to life as a senior footballer straight away. “It took me a while,” he said. “I only played four games in the first year and it definitely took three to four years until I felt comfortable and earnt my spot. “I guess I was lucky that a few people retired and left the club, so my position was vacant and there to make mine.” And Nulty certainly took the opportunity with both hands and became the go-to ruckman for the Tigers. His rapid progress from junior to senior football meant the Mount Gambier boy was bound for higher honours and he found himself travelling to Sydney as a member of the state Under 15’s side.
NULTY After being soundly beaten by the Demons in week one of finals, North hit back with a strong preliminary final triumph over Portland. The result ensured a rematch between the Anzac Day rivals in the grand final and chasing a maiden flag in 23 years, the Tigers roared. After trailing at quarter time and the game still in the balance at the final break, North pushed aside years of pain in the last term to finally break the drought. Nulty said it is still hard to describe the feeling of the long-awaited premiership. “There is no better feeling,” he said. “That was pretty special and was all a blur. “It was not until late in the last quarter we thought, wow we are going to win this. “After losing so many of them, it made us work harder and harder until the final siren.” The ruckman said McConnell’s leadership was a major reason behind the success. “I hold him in the highest regard,” Nulty said. “The professionalism he brought to our club was second to none. “He was absolutely brilliant with the belief he had in everybody, which made all of us believe in ourselves.” Fortunately for the Tigers they only had to wait a n o t h e r 1 2 m o n t h s b e fo r e t h e n e x t premiership success. The 2013 grand final was the perfect storm for Nulty, who also celebrated his 350th game alongside back-to-back flags. After also battling shoulder issues throughout the season, the veteran knew it was the right moment to call it a day. “I knew it was probably the end because my shoulder was stuffed over the last third of season,” Nulty said “I did not want to miss out on another after waiting so long, so the drive made me continue. “I thought I could come back from a shoulder reconstruction in early 2014, but it just didn’t work, so I had to make the tough call. “But I am satisfied with what I achieved.”

MATCH REPORTS SOUTH GAMBIER V MILLICENT Most people will be surprised the inexperienced South Gambier line-up challenged the reigning premiers Millicent and in the end only went down by 18 goals – a margin not seen for many season. So imagine the surprise of those at Blue Lake Sports Park when the home side held a one goal quarter me lead. Missing tall shooter Tabatha Sanderson, who injured her finger early in the precious round’s loss to East, Millicent already had a new look line-up and at quarter me the bibs were swapped and while South was s ll right in the contest, the wheels did start to turn. Kimmi Tincknell moved out to the defensive wing and immediately started to win some turnover ball, while Lisa Duldig, who moved into centre, gave her side good drive and a clam head at the offensive end. It was hard work but the Saints started to gain control and by half me the one goal deficit had become a five goal lead. It was in the third that the real scoreboard damage was done, when the Saints again shuffled their line-up. Demi Verbena moved into goal a ack, sharing the shoo ng du es with Lucy Denton, and Paige Nitschke moved out to the a acking wing. In the scheme of things, it was a slight tweak but with it came the Saints trademark speed of ball as Nitschke hit the top of the circle with monotonous regularity, finding Denton in space and Verbena on the drive. In the first half, the defensive efforts of Brandi Bouchier, Renee Pluckhahn and Ellie Bouchier, had the Saints second guessing themselves and coughing up possession but that all changed in the third as the space opened up and the ball kept finding its way into Denton’s hand, seeing her convert 15 from 17 as the lead blew out to 13 and the Demons challenge was all but over, in terms of securing the upset victory. Just as Millicent coach Donna Denton would have been pleased to see her side work its way out of a ght situa on, South coach Belinda Scanlon would be pleased her side regrouped a er the dominant performance from the Saints in the third, to be compe ve again in the last and keep the scoreboard damage under 20 goals. Millicent’s resurgence in the clash was built on defensive pressure ini ally as every player became a defender when South had possession, clogging up the centre third and contes ng everything, and then it was that slick ball movement in the third
that ensured the scoreboard reflected the reigning premiers’ efforts. Grace Edwards and Lara Munro con nue to develop as a shoo ng combina on for South and they certainly tested Millicent defenders Por a McRae and Hannah Nitschke, while Pluckhahn and Bouchier con nue to punch above their weight (and height) to create turnover ball. But in the end, the composure of Lucy Denton, the hard running of Duldig and the cri cal touches from Tincknell turned the match in the visitors’ favour. WEST GAMBIER V EAST GAMBIER East Gambier’s success has been built on a lot of things but fast, ruthless starts have been the hallmark of their 2021 success. That was again the case on Saturday, as the Bulldogs dominated the opening half, genera ng 44 scoring opportuni es to 20 in the first half and given the Bulldogs were uncharacteris cally inaccurate on the finish, the half me scoreline, which saw West trailing by 13, could well have been worse. The Bulldogs led by 10 at the first break and in the end, that really was the difference in what turned out to be a 59-43 final scoreline – a vastly improved effort on their opening round clash from the Roos. The third quarter was all about the young shooters on court, with West’s Sarah Ri er ensuring her side stayed in the contest, ne ng a perfect 11 from 11, while at the other end of the court, East’s Amryn Bosko also put in a perfect quarter, with 10 from 10. It le the deficit at 15 going into the final quarter and again Ri er was the target for the Roos, who while they were unable to make inroads into the scoreline, reduced the damage, with the Roos shoo ng conver ng 12 from 14 in the final quarter – the en rety of West’s final quarter score. Ri er was the beneficiary of some wonderful feeding from the consistent Carlee Ransom, who hit the circle’s edge hard and put the ball to the open space for Ri er. Coach Lisa McGregor also played a role in Ri er’s dominance, using her strong front cuts to open up the back space for her young shoo ng partner, as well delivering some clever feeds of her own to cash in on Ri er’s accurate finishing. Young East shooter Amryn Bosko, who was her side’s best, con nues to shine in top company and her partnership with the always dangerous Tenille Gray con nues to grow and the shoo ng duo is well serviced by the speed of ballad n precise delivery of Tarsh McCallum and Emily Hunter, who
DENTON’S
swapped roles in the final quarter as East explored other combina ons in their star studded line-up. In the end, though, the ability of the Bulldogs to create turnover ball early, limi ng West to just eight opening quarter scoring a empts, compared with their own 24 told the tale of the day. CASTERTON SANDFORD V NORTH GAMBIER Caroline Davey has been a thorn in every side’s side and at the weekend in round six ac on at Island Park, the star North Gambier shooter again was prolific and accurate as North Gambier bounced back from its loss to West with a convincing win over the Cats. Davey ne ed 61 from 69 as North powered to a 7629 victory over the injury-ravaged Casterton Sandford line-up. With no Meg Fennell or Caeleigh Humphries and coach Tori Broomby not on court, the Cats relied heavily on the experience of shooter Paige Murrell and tough mid courter and captain Scarlet Jarrad and the duo were easily Casterton Sandford’s best as they looked to support and encourage their young team mates. Zhane Crawford earned a call up to help cover the missing players and did some good work on either wing, while the young defensive combina on of Claire Foster and Ebany Jarrad competed hard but faced a dal wave of supply. North’s defensive unit – Maddie Whaites, Noni McConnell and Mel Renko – are arguably the most experienced in the compe on and they are all ght checking players who contest every ball, ensuring the Cats frontline was never allowed an easy ball. The speed in the mid court of Brianna Walters, Ellen Brown and Teneille Barry ensured the Casterton Sandford defenders had li le me to set up and try and limit the supply to Davey. Lauran Norman made her A Grade debut in the clash, replacing Brown at goal a ack in the final quarter for a taste of senior ac on and she slo ed a credible five from seven.
ROUND 6 PREVIEWS WEST GAMBEIR V SOUTH GAMBIER Last me these two sides met, West was undermanned and the clash was ght for much of the match. It looms as an intriguing clash again. West has defeated North and thrown a much be er challenge at East, despite losing, last weekend, so the Roos are headed in the right direc on. On the other hand, South has secured a breakthrough win and challenged Millicent for the first half at the weekend. If the Demons can produce a first quarter like they did at the weekend – they led the Saints by one – they will be well in the contest. That effort was built on some strong defensive work from Brandi Bouchier, Renee Pluckhahn and Ellie Bouchier, who created plenty of turnover ball, while the hard running of Hannah Witherow and smart feeding from Alyssa Duncan ensured goalers Grace Edwards and Lara Munro had plenty of scoring opportuni es and they rewarded their team mates with accuracy. West, on the other hand, will be looking for an improved start, having let East set up their win last round with a 10 goal quarter me buffer. Stopping supply to star goal shooter Sarah Ri er will be top of the to do list for South and that will mean a coordinated defensive effort, not relying on Brandi Bouchier to stop the young State squad member. Carlee Ransom, Tara Bryant and Lisa McGregor are all classy feeders and so ensuring they are under pressure on delivery will fall to Pluckhahn, Ellie Bouchier and Witherow. West also has another ace up its sleeve. McGregor le most of the scoring to Ri er at the weekend but she can step up whenever required and her front cuts and ability to convert from long range could prove pivotal. At the other end, Jade Ri er con nues to improve and her partnership with Amy Cram will ensure there is no easy ball for the Demons goalers. Ri er has tackled Caroline Davey and Tabatha Sanderson since she first took on Edwards and already has worked on her technique against the taller shooters and with Cram marshalling the troops and Nikeisha Facey and Bryant looking to apply pressure on the Demons mid courter, scoring opportuni es will be hard
earned. Munro has been in stellar form and Edwards has improved in every ou ng so if they can get enough supply this could be another ght ba le. The Roos should win but if ever the Demons were going to cause an upset, this could be the week. EAST GAMBIER V NORTH GAMBIER North Gambier is heading to McDonald Park to take on the toughest assignment in the 2021 A Grade compe on and with the Tigers s ll looking for consistency, they will know only a four quarter effort will give them a chance to challenge the undefeated Bulldogs. A good start will be key, given the Bulldogs have set up every one of their victories with blistering opening quarters. The improved scoreline for West Gambier last round would buoy the Tigers, who would also be looking to significantly reduce the round two deficit as a star ng point for this clash. Caroline Davey looms large with her accurate finishing and strong posi oning. The star North shooter ahs had some classic ba les with athle cs East defender Bo Creek and whoever gets the upper hand in this clash will go a long way to deciding the outcome. While East Gambier has two in form goalers – Tenille Gray and Amryn Bosko - who have been sharing the shoo ng du es, and providing a double headache for opposi on defenders, North has directed much of its scoring through Davey. If Ellen Brown can start to use her pace and long range shoo ng to great effect, it will add to the firepower of the Tigers and give Creek and Lisa Fyfe two op ons to shut down. In the centre, East’s Emily Hunter and North’s Brianna Walters could not be more different players. Hunter is physical and tough, using her long drives and aerial strength to great effect while Walters plays with smarts and finesse, happy to work in small spaces and always safe with ball in hand. Both work hard at both ends of the court and it will be interes ng to see how their contras ng styles affect the final result.
The match looms as a defensive stoush and it will be the team that looks a er the ball best that takes the points. East has Creek, Fyfe and Tyne Bosko making life tough in the defensive goal third, while the trip of Noni McConnell, Mel Renko and Maddie Whaites have a great understanding and work well as a complete unit. The Bulldogs should remain undefeated but the Tigers should gain some ground on a lacklustere first clash between the two rivals. MILLICENT V CASTERTON SANDFORD Millicent took a while to se le at the weekend in its clash with a improving South Gambier so the bad news for Casterton Sandford is the reigning premiers will be looking for a much more polished start to its clash this weekend. Already fielding an inexperience, new look lineup in 2021, the Cats have not been able to take a trick with injury and player unavailability and this clash will be yet another steep learning curve for the young Cats. The Saints took control of its clash with the Demons on the back of some relentless mid court defensive pressure with Lisa Duldig, Kimmi Tincknell and Hannah Nitschke leading the way and that kind of denying of me and space will make life tough for the Casterton Sandford a ack line. Much will rest on the leadership and hard running of Scarle Jarrad and the well med moves, accurate finishing and general smarts of Paige Murrell, while at the other end, Claire Foster, Ebany Jarrad and Madison Mutch will be tested by the speed of ball Millicent produced in the second half last weekend. The young trio will certainly look to contest everything and anything in the air they will definitely have a go at but it will be tough. Missing tall shooter Tabatha Sanderson, the Saints reverted to the long drives and slick passing that has seen it win the past 11 tles and Paige Nitschke, Demi Verbena and Lucy Denton built some strong chemistry over the course of the four quarters last weekend.

West Gambier Blue & Red Last round we welcomed East Gambier to Malseed Park. Only the one win from the A-Reserve girls in the seniors. A couple of close games in the 15’s this round with 15A’s with a 1 goal win and a narrow loss in the 15B’s, all other junior games with the win. The 11’s are having a wonderful season so far. If you can come out a little earlier and watch these little superstars. Not only have they improved from the start of the season they are having lots of fun.

A Grade knew they were going to have a tough game on Saturday after losing Coach Tori Broomby to injury aswell as Caeleigh Humphries. Once again junior players Charlotte Rice, Zhane Craw ford and Ebony Jarrad stepped up to fill in the roles of our missing players, to play a great 4 quarters of netball. With tight pressure all the way down the court, slowing down North’s play making them work for every ball, down the court from defence to attackers we managed to keep the score to 29-76 . Best players were Scarlett Jarrad and Paige Murrell.
A reserve went down to North 3859 on Saturday. With displays of great skills and improvement, they’re looking forward to playing North again. Best players were Sharna Fidler, Mikayla Rice.

However they did not give up at all. Continuing to lead and chase down the ball. The girls worked hard and played well despite the score!
Bosko Award Winners - Amryn Bosko (Jens Hotel) Ruby Jacobs (Dywers Boxing) Lilli Spooner (Natural Born Grillers) Another game where we showed some fast and effective ball movement, great goalie work and tough defensive efforts for patches. We just need to be more consistent to match up better with the top teams. Keep working hard with it all and the score line will come.
13B’s – East 25 lost to West 27 Best Players – Jolie O’Dea & Sharni Clark Award Winners – Chloe Little (Athletes Foot) Tahni Kemp (Scroll Queen) Mia Little (Bakers Delight) A large improvement from last round. The girls fought hard to keep the difference to two goals. Brilliant defence all through the court. We need to focus on the little things coming into the next game. Landing on 2 feet, taking our time to choose the best options etc. Keep fighting for possession and the wins will come. Great game girls!

13A’s - East 17 lost to West 28 Best Players - Indee Stratford & Skye Wilson Award Winners - Meah Beveridge (25 Acres) Indee Stratford (McDonalds) Lily McIntosh (Copenhagen) 15B’s - East 35 defeated West 32 Best Players - Ambah Beveridge & Bridget Facey A wa rd W i n n e rs - M i l l i e B u tto n (Kaboom) Ambah Beveridge (KFC) Bridget Facey (Bakers Delight) Coming into round 6 the girls knew they would have a tough game coming up against a respectable West side. The first three quarters saw Millie and Ambah working well together to create space within the circle. The execution of our shots, pressure of our defence down the court and the constant effort from our mid court in Bridget and Lillie creating turnovers is what kept us close in the game but we still struggled to get in the lead. Coming into the last quarter we knew we had to regroup and play our best quarter to win. Attacking of the ball, intercepts and defensive pressure is what won us the game by 3. Whilst we still have a few things to work on the girls fought hard until the end. 15A’s - East 25 lost to West 26 Best Players - Keelie Neilson & Tonique Burford Award Winners - Tahlia Geraghty (Natural Born Grillers) Keelie Neilson (Red Rooster) Indi Dwyer (Intersport) Today got off to a slow start, however with the girls regrouping at the first break and then playing with increased intensity and putting into practise what they have been focusing on at trainings, they were able to level the score at half time. The score remained level at three quarter time. Unfortunately, the girls found it difficult to remain steady and demonstrate consistent clam and flexible thinking in the last five minutes of the game which saw them loose by one goal. 17s - East 42 lost to West 73 Best Players - Grace Ferguson & Amryn
B Grade - East 52 defeated West 42 Best Players - Zoee Cornolo & Nicola Smith Award Winners - Nicola Smith (Gym Challenge Meals) Gemma Hunt (Salts of the Earth) Becky Grosser (Beautie Studio) Well done on a fantastic team game. So many positives and great plays throughout the court. Good to see what we are doing at training come out in our game play. You played for each other and that hard work shows in the final score. A Res - East 53 defeated West 34 Best Players - Chloe Perryman & Sharna McKinnon Award Winners - Chloe Perryman (Athletes Foot) Michelle Richardson (South Eastern) Sharna McKinnon (F45) Lining up against West for the second time we knew we had to step up and play our own game. Coming off of last weeks game the girls played extremely well and played like we should every week. I’m very proud of the girls this week for stepping up and playing their hearts out. Going into next week against North we need the same attitude and intensity and play as strong as we did this against West! Great job girls! A Grade - East 59 defeated West 43 Best Players - Tyne Bosko & Emily Hunter Awards Winners - Tyne Bosko (Hue Colour) Emily Hunter (Nourish Nook) Lisa Fyfe (San Piero) West were coming off a good win against North and clearly continued their strong game plan making it hard all game for East. East got off to a good start, although West were quick to shut down their flow and did not allow East to break away. East defence line continued to work extremely hard and managed to create crucial turnovers in the last quarter to allow for extra scorning opportunities. Emily Hunter and Tarsh McCallum had to work hard to maintain possession of the ball and reward the defenders for their hard work by feeding into Tenille and Amryn. East were able to secure a 16 goal win. Ty n e B o s ko o n c e a ga i n h a d a n outstanding game in the defence end, as did Lisa Fyfe and Bo Creek. Lisa and Tyne were awarded best players for the game as was Emily Hunter.

A grade North 76 vs Casterton 29 The team regrouped from last week’s loss and showed what can be achieved with four strong quarters of play. Lauran Norman made her A grade debut. A young player who showed us she was able to equip herself well on this court. Well done to Brianna Walters achieving 50 senior games, thanks to Di Georgio for her champagne. Best players Tennielle Barry (Federal Hotel) and Brianna Walters (Fasta Pasta)
A Res North 59 vs Casterton 37 North had a number of early turnovers that lead to them taking a 7 goal lead at quarter time. The margin grew as North’s defence were able to turn the ball over and pressure the attack end. Casterton made some changes at half time and were able to start the quarter strongly. North were shooting accurately and were able to take a convincing lead at ¾ time. Casterton played accurate and defensive netball in the last quarter and ended up winning the quarter by 4 goals. However, North’s lead held them in good stead and were able to win the game by a moderate margin in the end. Best players Elyse Willoughby (Federal Hotel) and Libby Morgan-Howe (Fasta Pasta) B Grade North 31 Casterton 45 Another 3 quarter effort by the girls but just cannot get that 4th quarter going. We are definitely working hard and managing good starts but just lacking the extra effort needed. Some great passages of play happening and with some extra work it will all come together soon enough. Some nice movements by the goalies under a lot of pressure and some good hands in defence by all with some great intercepts. Our mids are competitive with some lovely passages into the goalies. Let’s work on it all and put out that full game we know we can do!! Best players Abby Dyson (Nourish Nook) and Elyse Willoughby (Killara)
Yellow & Black congratulations to Zarly Jones on your 100th game. Best players Lauran Norman (Killara) and Katie Dyson (Federal Hotel) Under 15A North 17 vs Casterton 17 The girls put on another display of brillant netball. Our defenders worked hard to get their hands on the ball, our mids attacked and got the ball into the goalies who converted. We had a change at half time which saw Tenielle make her way down the court to GS and Cara back down to GK. Both girls slotted in nicely and proved that we have a very versatile team. Best players Stella Mobbs (Federal Hotel) and Tenielle Human (Fasta Pasta) Under 15B North 11 vs Casterton 11 The under 15b girls had very slow start to their game on Saturday, coming up against a dominate Casterton side. All we can do is learn from the game, regroup and come back stronger next week against East. Best players Summer Mackereth (Fasta Pasta) and Milly Allen (Federal Hotel) Under 13A North 52 Casterton 7 The girls had another great start & secured a substantial lead. They displayed wonderful versatility and played in a variety of positions. We focussed on minimising passing errors for this game. The girls challenged themselves & improved their decision making each quarter. Best players Lilly Brooks (Killara) and Elodie Adams (Lip Balm by Zarly) Under 13B North 15 vs Casterton 10 The 13Bs had a tough low scoring game this week. In the first quarter they got a strong lead but were challenged in the 2nd and 3rd on the score board, despite having strong possession. The girls showed a high level of fitness as the ball was turned over with continual pressure and competitiveness from both teams during a heavy rain shower. Well done to the girls for continuing to fight all the way to the end and not give up. Best players Mia Griffith (Jolley Soles) and Lacey Allen (Lip Balm by Zarly)
