GAME PREVIEW

THOMAS MILES - SE VOICE

Casterton Sandford v East Gambier Sadly due to the latest outbreak of COVID in Victoria, fans will miss a third of the action when round 8 of the 2021 Bendigo Bank Western Border Football League kicks off this weekend. Casterton Sandford and East Gambier were scheduled to meet at Island Park, but the current seven-day Victorian lockdown forced the game to be postponed.

Wenman's side needs to turn the tide soon before it is too late. The finish to the previous Roos v Saints encounter fills Wenman with optimism after his team kicked five goals to one in the final term. But that was not enough to prevent Millicent from taking the premiership points and West needs a full four-quarter effort to get the job done.

The unexpected week off gives the Cats an opportunity to regroup and reflect on a tough start to the season, while the Bulldogs hope to regather their momentum from a pivotal round 7 win ahead of a daunting date with South Gambier.

It will not be easy against a Saints side riding a wave of momentum. Despite a worrying win-loss trend, Millicent has played some positive football in recent weeks headlined by destroying the Cats, defeating the Bulldogs and pushing the Demons to the very edge. The Saints have created a strong connection between experience and youth around the ground with coach Clint Gallio and captain Jacob Carger leading the charge. They moved the ball aggressively inside 50 with Gene Robinson often the target, who is flying after his second bag of 10 goals.

However, the show must go on and it will on the South Australian side of the border with two tasty matchups.

South has not skipped a beat yet and had little Papps injected some presence inside 50. However, West took another step backwards trouble in putting away West Gambier away by struggling to challenge the rampant from home. But one source of confidence North can draw Demons last weekend at home. from is the template set by Millicent. The latest defeat leaves the club two wins The Saints managed to outscore the Demons away from finals contention and Steve over the first half and if it wasn't for a

F.L. disappointing third term, the former could have caused the biggest boil over of the year. Ball winners Jacob Carger, Clint Gallio and goal-kicker Gene Robinson led Millicent's fight and the likes of Nick McInerney, Brad Stafford and Justin McConnell could play similar roles for the Tigers. Despite going down to East Gambier, North has learnt its lessons from Anzac Day and heads into the rematch as a much stronger force. The team went back to the drawing board and its hard work was backed up by solid performances against Millicent, West Gambier and Casterton Sandford. Jake Schutz has been a general down back, while a young brigade led by Austin Kitschke has breathed new life into the playing group. Although Brodie Foster remains on the sidelines, the Demons have enjoyed an injuryfree run lately and their forward line is difficult to contain. Playing coach Brayden Kain has stepped things up and Kym Eagleson has fond memories of the Tigers. Further up the ground Taylor Saffin and Todd Reid have been making waves and Jack Casey is back and looms large. North might be able to give the ladder leaders more of a hard time at Vansittart Park, but it will be a daunting task to stay in the hunt for the duration of the contest.

North Gambier Yellow & Black The farmers might not be happy, but again we had beautiful conditions for football at McDonald Park. The results didn’t all go as we’d hoped and we copped a few injuries throughout the day, but it is only round 7, with plenty of football to come. Unlike last week, the seniors were slow to start and couldn’t find the big sticks early which was telling in the final result. They kept at it and got within 10 points before the fast and skilful Easties pulled away. Best players were Jake Schutz again, Mitch (Matthew Scarlett) Whan, Luke Powell, Toby de Wit, Nick McInerney and Austin Kitschke. The reserves roller coaster of a season continued and they never looked the winners, leading to coach Kurzman giving the boys a spray for the ages after the game (sorry to any netballers that may have heard anything). The main positive of the day was the return of Nick Mark, who hopefully can now stay on the park. Other best players were, Mat Ikin, Sam Egan, Toby Firth and another returning player, Liam Downs-Wooley. The u18s returned to the winners circle in a game that had a bit of everything. The boys even survived a count, which makes me wonder how much satisfaction there is trying to win an underage came calling a count? Best players were Brodie Allen (with 2 ripping goals), Adam Prosperi-Porta, Alex Stafford, Eddie New, Ben Braithwaite and Brady Dethmore. According to coach McInerney, we can see things in the future, so just keep listening to him. The u16s had a disappointing loss which will mean they have will now have to pick up some games to play finals. Best players were Reece McLaughlin, Mackye Baron, Jayk Norman, Kade Allen and Iowani Coleman. The u14s fought off a determined East side to record a win. Best players this week were Kade Allen, Iowani Coleman, Will Norman, Cooper Turner, Jackson Driver and Vincent Dellorefice. Big day at home this week against South, where were will start underdogs in most grades. Lets hope for good performances all day and look forward to seeing some red and white shirts in the club after the game. Save the following dates; 3/7/21 – Sponsors day 6/8/21 - Auction Thanks to our major sponsors, Stuckey Electrical Contractors and KFC. Under 12E - Danny Vinko and Stephen Kamphius This week saw us take on East at the kennel. The last round when we faced the doggies they well and truly had our measure. I'm happy to say that this round they didn't have things all their own way. Our improved skill by both hand and foot allowed us to link up, and score freely. On the defensive side of things we were able to limit Easts scoring opportunities by pressuring the ball carrier and remembering to stay with our opponents when they were in possession of the footy. Thank you to East for lending us two of their boys to ensure that the numbers were even on both sides. Great sportsmanship from the East Gambier Foot ball Club. I'm happy to say that I was unable to give out four best players this week, I was forced to hand out awards to the whole team. So congratulations to Cohen, David, Harry, Ted , Thomas and Lukas on receiving best players this week they were well deserved. Looking forward to facing South this week and seeing the boys continue to develop. Under 12D - Stacy Mullens, Michael Durbidge and Anthony Davison

V

On another perfect morning for football this week we took on East at their home ground with the team once again showing huge improvement week to week! It was definitely our best all round team game this season with every player playing their roles all over the field, and they were then rewarded with a lot of scoring and multiple goal kickers. Big thanks to east too for sending over some players each quarter to even up the sides. This weeks best players were Claire Flett, Digby Stephens, Jack Davison, Will Mullens, Cooper Stephen, Jarrah Durbidge, Lakyn Corcoran, Jaxson Drew, Kobe Hamilton, Mitchell Allen and Banks Stephen. Great effort guys, bring on west this week!

Under 12C - John Stafford and Scott Montgomery So today we ventured to kennel in what was a perfect day for football. The 12c boys once again showed again the future is very bright at tiger land. The style of play was impressive to watch with a number of passages of play with kicks and marks as well as strong contested footy as well. Best players in no particular order for the day were Kye Wren-Mitchell, Jacob Cox, Finn Brokensha and Riley Chapman. Under 12B - Adrian Flowers and Danny Vinko The Saturday game for the U12B’s was played under sunny conditions at McDonald Park. Both teams were hard at every contest throughout the four quarters but unfortunately for East the ledger went North’s way on most occasions. The Tigers started short in the first quarter as a result of two players with boundary umpiring commitments on the main oval, fortunately though the team covered the holes and ended up out scoring East by two goals. The commitment and attack on the ball from backline first year player Cam Dale was evident on multiple occasions, this set the standard for the Tigers defence. The centre was dominated by changing ruckmen Banjo Stephens and James Bryant supported by clearances coming from captain for the day Ethan Brook, Brock McEachern and Hayden Wren. The Tigers also displayed dominance with an abundance of run off the wings and back flanks, Kobe Roulstone racked up possessions in this role. The game was played in great spirits and again were something for parents, coaches and players to be proud of, both teams played with respect for each side, the umpires and their team mates. Everyone bumped elbows, high fived at the end of the game and came off the ground with a smiles from ear to ear. Well Done Tigers……great effort by all, thankyou for the hit out East Gambier. Under 12A - Jason Baron The weather on Saturday was kind as the boys ran out against East. Our Captains Mason Rogers and Tyler Fiegert won the toss and elected to kick with the breeze which held us in good stead. Each game the players are given 3 areas to focus on. This week it was Leading to space, playing on with handball and kicking drop punts. These skills are incorporated into most of our drills at training and it’s pleasing to see the players applying them in games so consistently. I’m noticing more and more contributors based on their willingness to work for each other and put themselves in a position to either give off or receive a handball. Aden Minge had his best game for the season so far by putting his body on the line on more than one occasion and being able to recover to find enough space to have a bounce a deliver a perfect drop punt to a team mate. For his efforts he earned the Resilience award. Charlie Waters relished in his role in the midfield during the first and last quarters. His tackling efforts earned him the best team man award. Other notable contributors were Esaie Kulimusi, Sam Baron, Cooper Harris and Mitchell Chapman. This week the under 12As get the chance to play under lights after the senior A grade game. I encourage you all to stay and watch the future of our club in action.

South Gambier

Last Sunday Minister Corey Wingard visited BLSP to inspect the recent club redevelopment and I’m sure he walked away impressed with what he saw. We are nearing the end of the $450,000 build which has been an 18-month planning and construction task. We have a tremendous result which will set the club up for decades to come. We are extremely grateful for the Federal, State and local council support we’ve received not to mention the outstanding generosity and work from many tradespersons and club people.

Red & White numbers our midfielders overcame West’s strong onballers and the forward line welcomed the return of Dozer with 4 goals. Kainy continued his dominant form with another 4 goals.

The reserves had a test after a number of easy victories which can only benefit them. The earlier round saw a 142 point win for the Demons but not so this time with only 28 points separating the teams at full-time. West have certainly improved in that time and our boys need to get back to playing team-oriented, tough football if they want the early A quiet crowd greeted us at season form to continue. MILLICENT

Millicent Red, Black & White Since the corona virus outbreak happened, I've been washing my hands religiously, in fact I've been washing my hands so much, I found the answers to an old year 8 maths quiz. My dad got a new smart phone, he called me over to help fix it because it had started running out of storage space. I looked over the phone and come across all these QR codes, everywhere we go we scan our smart phones over the QR codes and thought he was too, but now we've found out he's been taking photos of them the silly man. Old people and technology is always a laugh, like when your mum spectacularly misunderstands the cry laughing emoji. "Mum this is a laughing face, you go a stop using it on Facebook when someone's animal dies" Or when you visit your grandmother and she says I've been trying to text you all day. Umm no that's a calculator. Pa doesn't know how to zoom on his tablet so he uses a magnifying glass and great Aunty Karen posted how beau ful her 3 kids were on a buy swap and sell page. But as they get older, and the memory starts to fade, they become more inven ve. Like Dad changing his password to incorrect, now he gets a reminder his password is incorrect every me he enters it wrong!! A grade lads had a convincing win, played in perfect condi ons, the cats put the first goal on the board early in the first quarter before Mitch Reilly opened the Saints account, before piling on another 5 goals to take a 33-point lead into quarter me, second quarter was an even affair scoring 5 goals each. A er half me it was all one-way traffic with Millicent piling on 9 goals in the third and 6 in the last to run out winners by 125 points. To the Cats credit they ba led all day but the Saints had to many winners over the ground. With Gene pu ng on a master-class in front of goal kicking 10 and a near best on ground display. There were 10 individual goal kickers with the highlight being young Hazza Willis and Jed Haines in their first A Grade game kicking their first goal. The n shed erupted and some happy dads were seen smiling. Gallio had a day out picking up possessions at will, Cargs con nued his good form kicking 3 and finding plenty of the ball. Frazer Bradley kicked 2 and was dominant all day followed by Cream Willis and Jaxon Cushion... On a sour note, young Josh

Werchon sustained a serious shoulder injury and we hope for a speedy recovery... Reserves playing for milestone players Gizzy and Tinka got out of the blocks early with a 7 goal first quarter. Cal McGrath and Colby O'Connor were in everything, with Bud Davies in his first game back showing plenty. Gizzy in his 250th slo ed a goal and Craig Thompson wound back the clock. Grosser in his first game slo ed a lazy 2 and got photo evidence he does in fact tackle. Winning by 92 points in the end. Best players were Tinka, Bud, Balls McGrath, Colby, Thomo and Gizzy Making my Mark,

The Appren ce Our under 16s were close to full strength and had a big win against an undermanned Cats, who are trying hard to develop their juniors. Deany threw the lads around a bit, and be er players on the day were Mulesy in the ruck, Harry Gibbs who is gonna be a player to watch, Blake who is also throwing some good form together, Simsy, Ellis (Thanks for coming in) and Toddy. Goals to Kalan 4, Eli 3, Toddy, Harry G and Ellis 2, Dyl and Kobe in their second game for the day, Sammy H and Wezza. The Under 14s won 64-12 and were great all game, played good team first footy and the boys were also tried in some different roles by Wormy through the game. Best players were, Kobe with 5 goals, Charlie Damhuis , Je , Dyl Sigston, Thwaitsey, Zac Ash, Naite and Tunksy. Goals to Kobe 5, Beau Douglas 2, Klaye, Je and Dylan with 1 each. The under 14s Kicked us off for a great start to the season, the team is starting to gel and string together good games off football. Koby Stratman continues his great season with being named Best on ground followed by the consistent players in Seth Fraser, Brody Szopory. Silas Bowden played a great game to be named 4th best followed by Liam Johnson. Keep playing as a team when we take on a strong Millicent side and we can get another win on the board. The 16s faced the formidable opponent and went down in the end. Our boys showed they can match it with the best and played some great patches of football but need to be more consistent. Joe Judd kept his good form rolling being named best player, followed by Finn Kenseley, and Mr consistent Brad Cowling Harry Opperman and Mitch Cornolo rounded out the best players.

The seniors continued the pattern off west sides starting slowly for the day and gave South a good head start. We struggled to get that back for the day and South showed they are the side to beat. We played some good passages and show we have it but we need to string it together for the 4 quarters. Unfortunately losing Toddy Mc and Dwayne to injuries hurts. However we bounce back and we keep on going. Lawry keeps showing the way for us taking marks and competing all day. Aden Pfitzner, Jordan Williams, Reece Cowling and Jessie Pfitzner rounded out our best players. W.E.S.T night was a hit with some legs shown we rather not see again but it was a good night and good to see everyone up the club. After the game this week we head to the Tavern for our awards and a feed so be good to get everyone in there for a feed and a beer. Fridge

In the 18s again took to the field with 11 players and the rest under 16s. Great to see some kids pushing themselves to step up and play great games. With injuries and players being unavailable makes it hard for Joel to get his side firing. In a slow start the 18s got behind the ball but built the to play some good football. We are hanging in there with Aaron Ramsey and Jack Carson playing great games as did all the under 16s who stepped up the play. (Bomber) Will Crook again has no fear and continues to play good solid football. The Ressies have hit the park ready to bounce back against the top side. We showed we can match it with he best and after a very poor first quarter bounced back in the last 3 to lose by 4 goals. Best Players was big man Cooper Sanderson, Joel Bull, James Waugh James Keately and Aaron Herron.

These two lads are as hard as Cats heads and love nothing more than crashing into a pack to get the ball out to a team-mate. The Carlin name is engrained in the Casterton-Sandford Football Netball Club and these brothers are adding to that legacy, they are already Premiership players in the Reserves and leaders of our club

Few can match the skill, success and longevity of South Gambier midfielder Brent Howard. The gritty veteran’s Western Border A Grade career stretches across four decades and at the end of this year he could have a premiership in each of them.

“I was lucky enough both my parents played at South,” he said. “My father played senior footy and my mother played a lot A Grade netball, so I was born into the club.” With trips to Blue Lake Sports Park a weekly occurrence during his childhood, Howard was given the perfect upbringing to succeed in a South jumper. He entered the fray in Under 12’s, but was swiftly promoted into Under 14’s and won a flag. P re m i e rs h i p s u c c e s s continued through his junior career and by the age of 17, Howard was thrown into the Senior squad. He said the pace set by the 1997 premiership winning side in his A Grade debut remains with him.

HOWARD back into his role in the centre of the Demons’ team sheet and even threatened the goals. He was in crushing form and was rewarded with the best and fairest medal in 2004, while South enjoyed the ultimate team success with another flag the following year. Despite achieving so much success at BLSP, Howard said he found himself searching for something new. “Around 2007 I just felt like I needed a new challenge,” he said. “At South we were winning all the time, so I just wanted a change from the same lifestyle to meet new people. “Casterton was a really good football club with some great supporters and I made great friends with the players, so no regrets there.”

After almost 90 games at the club, but no significant team success, Howard felt it was the right time to head back home having just welcomed his first child into the world. Following three competitive seasons, a third premiership for the Demons arrived in unforgettable style. After four intense quarters under the sun of Vansittart Park, nothing separated North and South before the latter prevailed in extra-time. Howard who received his second best-on-ground Having conquered WBFL at such an early age, grand final medal said the long afternoon was the Glenelg approached Howard and at the start of most stressful of his career. 1999 he moved up the highway to Adelaide. “It was a weird feeling when the siren went and it Rooming with fellow Demon Simon Jones, the 18- was a draw, but I remember as a team we just year-old was keen to take the next step and made pulled each other into a huddle and said we can his senior SANFL debut just halfway through his still win this,” he said. first season in the city. “We thought North had a few blokes cramping Howard said it was the toughest class of football up, so we just had a feeling we could pull it off and he played, but several SA legends helped him we did. along the way. “I remember feeling pretty spent and it took me a “My debut against South Adelaide down at week to get over that game. The unfortunate incident was enough for the Mount Gambier midfielder to call it a day and return to the comforts of home. It paid off handsomely as Howard jumped straight

MATCH REPORTS MILLICENT V CASTERTON SANDFORD A er looking a li le rusty and lacklustre in round six, there was a fair chance Millicent was going to come out all guns blazing against Casterton Sandford at the weekend and while the Cats toughed it out in the opening quarter, as the match wore on, the Saints asserted their dominance. Both sides made forced and unforced changes throughout the contest as they looked for the best combina on but in the end a er the first quarter, where Casterton Sandford stayed in touch and trailed by only six goals, Millicent was able to score at will. Casterton Sandford welcomed back Caeleigh Humphries, which strengthened the defensive end of the court that is s ll missing Meg Fennell, and the young defender was her side's best as she looked to contest every ball, playing firstly at goal keeper and then moving out to the more familiar role of goal defence. The Cats' back three also included two more rising stars – Claire Foster on the defensive wing and Ebany Jarrad in the circle – and while it has been a bap sm of fire, the trio have shown glimpses of what the future could look like for the Cats. It was always going to be a tough ask when you are looking to make life hard for the classy, slick Millicent frontline which includes Lucy Denton, Demi Verbena, Paige Nitschke and Lisa Duldig – all mul ple A Grade premiership players. That quartet use speed of ball to keep defensive units off balance and the weekend was no excep on as Nitschke hit the circle hard and fed with accuracy, while the strong drives of Duldig and the well med moves of Denton and Verbena meant the Saints had plenty of scoring opportuni es. And Denton made them count ne ng 17 from 19 in the second quarter and 15 from 18 in the third before moving out to wing a ack. She was Millicent's best as she con nues to cover for the injured Tabatha Sanderson, while Nitschke's feeding was outstanding. For the Cats, Paige Murrell con nues to be the focal point of the shoo ng circle, while Scarlet Jarrad con nues to impress with her work rate and leadership.

NORTH GAMBIER V EAST GAMBIER East Gambier remains undefeated challengers are star ng to bridge the North Gambier managing to do what team has really done this season – Bulldogs from ge ng off to a flier.

but the gap with no other stop the

The Bulldogs led by two at the first break and three at the main break and it was game on for the first me this season. The sign of a good side, is a team that can absorb the pressure, rise to the challenge and find another gear and that's what the Bulldogs did. A er a quiet first half by her lo y standards, Tenille Gray found more ball and finished with her usual accuracy and her eight from nine in the third quarter and nine straight in the last that saw the Bulldogs con nue to widen the gap to end up with a 12 goal victory. Gray was well supplied by Tarsh McCallum, who resumed her long running rivalry with Mel Renko, and while McCallum certainly had to work for every possession, she used her speed and ability to work in small spaces to secure plenty of possession and then she delivered with her usual safe hands to Gray and Amryn Bosko, who con nues to impress. Arguably the other key ba le was East defender Bo Creek taking on Tigers spearhead Caroline Davey. North's scoring machine was s ll the primary focus of the Tigers' goal circle and she was arguably the most influen al player for the yellow and black on court but Creek's efforts were crucial and it could be argued both defensive units were on top given the low scoring contest which finished with East securing a 48-36 victory. Brianna Walters was the key player linking with Davey, as was Ellen Brown who uses her speed and front cuts to open up opportuni es for her experience shoo ng team mate. Walters was also not just important at the offensive end of the court for North but also worked hard defensively to not allow Emily Hunter to dominate the contest. Both sides would have taken something out of the contest – North knowing they can match it with the best, given the huge improvement in performance from their round two loss, which was a one sided contest, while East would be pleased to know when challenged they can find a way to win, even when the match is not on their terms.

DENTON’S

W EST G A M B I E R V SOUTH GAMBIER Billed as match of the round, based on the round two contest that saw West sneak the victory by 10 goals, and also given South's impressive performance against Millicent last round, the West versus South colntest did not deliver. The Roos were in no mood for another ght contest with the Demons and while the first quarter was high scoring and entertaining, it did see West fight off a few strong challenges from the Demons to end up with a seven goal advantage. From that point on it was basically one way traffic with few highlights for the Demons. The first quarter gave a glimpse into how the match was going to pan out with State squad goal shooter Sarah Ri er ne ng 14 from 15 and the teenage goaler con nued through the match as a strong target and an accurate finisher. It was not that the South defenders were not trying to pressure the West goal shooter but the ball just kept arriving to the a acking third at speed and with very li le down court pressure, making the end scoreline almost inevitable. Adding to South's woes was the fact, West playing coach Lisa McGregor probably had her most produc ve shoo ng game for the season, a er allowing Ri er to be the star of the show for much of 2021. McGregor is always a key in transi on and does a mountain of work outside the circle. She did that again at the weekend but also showcased her trademark well med front cuts and baseline drives and she ne ed a season high 31 goals for the game. Carlee Ransom and Tara Bryant dominated the mid court and they con nued to hit the circle's edge and deliver the ball safely into space, while Nikeisha Facey, Amy Cram and Jade Ri er recovered from a somewhat shaky opening quarter where they gave up 13 goals to the Demons to only give up 24 for the remained of the match, including a miserly five in the final quarter. Jade Ri er, Cram and Facey all created their share of turnover ball and while tall South shooter Grace Edwards challenged the defensive line and won some important ball and Lara Munro also had her moments to show why she has been earmarked as a player of the future, in the end, it was a game to forget for South and a dominant performance from a team that fully intends on being a contender in 2021.

ROUND 7 PREVIEWS NORTH GAMBIER V SOUTH GAMBIER North Gambier had the be er of this match up on ANZAC Day and a er challenging East Gambier last round, the Tigers would be looking for another comprehensive victory. South Gambier arguably put in their worst performance of the season last weekend and if there is not significant improvement the Tigers will enjoy a day out. The Demons will be looking to recapture the full court pressure that saw them have a strong ou ng against Millicent in Round 6 because if they allow Brianna Walters, Tenielle Barry and Ellen Brown to sue their speed and court smarts without any pressure, Caroline Davey will rack up a mammoth score. Davey has been unstoppable since returning to the court in 2021 and has even put out a 100 per cent shoo ng performance and if South cannot stop supply to the tall shooter, Davey will dominate as Sarah Ri er did last weekend, given how o en and easily the ball came down court. At the other end, Mel Renko, Maddie Whaites and Noni McConnell, who was missing through injury on ANZAC Day, have formed a formidable defensive unit. They are smart, tough and contest every ball and the frontline for South will need to be pa ent and work hard to find Lara Munro and Grace Edwards in space. Imi Walker may be back for the clash and that certainly helps the Demons cause as she is all class and can dominate the shoo ng circle or mid court but anything but a Tigers convincing win would be a shock.

Bailey Young North & Lucy Davis East

MILLICENT V WEST GAMBIER Last me Millicent and West Gambier faced off in round three, it was a ght opening quarter and s ll anyone’s game at half me, before the Saints worked their way to a comfortable victory. This me the match will have a different complexion with no Tabatha Sanderson for the saints. The tall shooter is s ll recovering form a finger injury and so it has changed how the Millicent frontline looks. With Lucy Denton, Demi Verbena and Paige Nitschke working the goal third, the speed of ball is back in spades and that will give a new challenge to West defenders Jade Ri er and Amy Cram. The Roos are coming off a demoli on of South Gambier and would be brimming with confidence, especially young guns Tara Bryant and Sarah Ri er. Bryant is domina ng the mid court with her hard running and her ba le with Lisa Duldig will be fascina ng, while Sarah Ri er has really started to dominate the A Grade compe on and hew match up with Saints defender Por a McRae is a real glimpse into the future of the compe on. The bad news for Millicent is Lisa McGregor was back to her prolific best at the weekend. She has le the majority of the shoo ng to Sarah Ri er in 2021 but at the weekend she started to share the load, as well as doing her usual mountain of work in transi on and she looked back to her best. Her ba le with Hannah Nitschke or Kimmi Tincknell will be pivotal in the final result. This will be the ghtest contest of the round with the Saints just ge ng the points in a nailbiter.

Mel Renko

C A S T E R T O N SANDFORD V EAST GAMBIER The Cats are coming off a tough ou ng against the Saints but they did find ways to score and it will be all about improvement again as they take on the undefeated Bulldogs. Scarlet Jarrad and Emily Hunter will have an epic ba le. Both are hard running, physically tough players who thrive on the defensive side of the game as much as driving hard in a ack and both are strong voices on court for their respec ve teams. This will be another steep learning curve for the Casterton Sandford defensive line of Claire Foster, Caeleigh Humphries and Ebany Jarrad as they look to curb the scoring of the slick East forward line of Tarsh McCallum, Tenille Gray and Amryn Bosko. At the other end Paige Murrell will need to lead the young a ack line of Charlo e Rice and Zhane Crawford and it will be a tough day for them against the ght marking Tyne Bosko, Lisa Fyfe and Bo Creek who never allow easy possession. Missing the experience of Meg Fennell and Tori Broomby due to injury, it is a tough ask every week and the Bulldogs were really challenged last week and would be looking to finetune and return to their usual slick, polished ball use.

South Gambier Red & White

A great win for the 15 & Under A gals led by hard working midcourter Maddison Harrold, who has been one of the team's most consistent performers in season 2021 and star utility Chelsea Ryan. But the rest of the girls all played a role in picking up a win over West. Credit to coach Brandi Bouchier who has been working hard with this group and to all the girls in the 15As this season - Lucy, Milla, Sophie, Sienna & Jade.

The 13 & Under A girls, under the tutelage of Misty, are also making good ground and had another good win. The 17 & Under girls got off to a flier and then, despite an injury to Alyssa, and with Georgia still sidelined, held on for a hard fought win over a talented West line-up.

Thanks also to Shelby for helping out the A Reserve and congrats to Bella for being elevated to the B Grade after an outstanding start to the 2021 season. The A Reserve had arguably its best outing of the season - reward for the hard work of Tracy and her players - and the narrow loss showed they are absolutely heading in the right direction and it was all the more meritorious with Mykaela on the sidelines, as well as Kaitlyn and Tori. Congrats to the players from South who have been selected in Western Border teams - Imi Walker, Ellie Bouchier, Alyssa Duncan, Lara Munro (emergency); Chelsea Ryan, Maddison Harrold (emergency); Charlie Attiwill; Gracie Dalton, Ruby Milich & Bree Ridding (emergency).

Thanks to everyone who has The C grade, led by Ell, Misty, donated to the auction tonight at Maelee and Breanna had another the Red & Rump night and have a strong win and the B Grade great night. prevailed in a low scoring contest a strong effort by Jimi in particular after she played A Reserve then took to the B B Grade court, suffered an injury but soldiered on to basically be best in both games. North were incredibly tough on Saturday, providing strong pressure all over the court for the entirety of the game making it difficult for East to get a run on. East were up by 2 at the first break and only 3 goals at 1/2 time.

East Under 15A’s seventh match of the season saw the girls come up against a strong North team. The first half of the game saw the girls applying combined pressure and demonstrating effective and flexible thinking, which resulted in a deficit of seven goals in the first quarter and an evenly scored second quarter. With North making changes at the attacking end and the defensive end, the girls struggled to adapt, however continued to play with positivity and perseverance.

East defence, Bo, Lisa and Tyne had to work extra hard to create crucial turnovers which Tenille and Amryn managed to score off of in order to push the lead out by 8 goals at 3/4 time. Amryn Bosko stood up when required and worked incredibly well under pressure, resulting in her taking home first best for the day.
